After his NCAA Tournament loss to Florida, UConn head coach Dan Hurley cried about bowing out with honor and dignity just moments after cursing about the referees. Borderline personality disorder much?

Hurley, a bald version of narcissist Kim Mulkey, demands the spotlight, berates colleagues, derides opposing fans, and loves to hear himself talk. Just ask him!

Hurley was a prime candidate to replace John Calipari at the University of Kentucky. The deal never came together.

Meanwhile, Mark Pope answered the call from UK and has exceeded all expectations, conducting himself with honor, grace, and integrity.

The wait was worth it.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, Milesnich's a town you would news radio eight forty whas.
My name's Terry Miners. I've worked here a couple of
weeks now and start to feel good about this job.
I gotta tell you, I might hang around here for
a couple of weeks, a couple more weeks, sure, like
working here during March madness. I can tell you that
because everybody in the whole place buses all the time.
They're always talking about this, that you saw this, or

(00:22):
that we have a high basketball IQ around here. Very exciting.
Later in the hour, we'll talk a little bit about
Rick Patino's situation. They're losing to Caliperi and then not
playing his star player in the end. Is like he's
the coach, that's the gig. The coaches know what's going
on twenty four to seven with their players. Well, okay,

(00:44):
twenty three seven you can't always know. But but Patino
sitting his star was either that's a head scratcher, don't
you think Gus it is?

Speaker 2 (00:57):
I mean, at least give a guy a shot he
was getting. As somebody pointed out, he could get you
a found some free throws.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
It's rough stuff, to be sure, Anyway, that's one story.
Is Patino. Although I can tell you this. I know
Rick well enough to know that he is miserable as
he was after losing cal Peri. He cracked a smile
after Dan Hurley lost, and people go, oh, no, they're

(01:24):
in the same league. They let no come on. Patino
is the most intense competitor I've ever known, and Dan
Hurley is one of those guys that demands all this
attention all the time. And so that's just going to
be a natural rivalry for Patino in the Big East.
To have Dan Hurley, who's a loud mouth and a jerk,
and as he's a look at me, he's a bald

(01:47):
kim mulky. What about me? Look at me? I do this,
I say that bye blah blah blah blah. That's Dan Hurley.
It's always the talking. As I referenced earlier, he told
his his guy Luke Murray to shut up yesterday. It's like, oh,
but that's in the intensity of battle. I know, but
everybody has basic manners. When's the last time you yelled

(02:09):
at someone to shut up? It's just like, that's just rude.
It's this unnecessary behavior. And again it's just sweaty kids
putting a ball in a hoop. Let's all calm down
about Oh, this is so intense and so important that
is it? Really, it's about winning a trophy, So stop

(02:30):
elevating it to like ending the conflict in Gaza. You know,
it's just not. It's just basketball. So from that, we're
going to go to this Dan Hurley guy in Yukon
who lost to Florida, and he's always yammering about you
know this that he taunted the Creighton fans got two

(02:51):
rooms because he did win two championships in a row.
Yesterday broke their winning streak, postseason winning streak. They had
thirteen Arch Madness wins in a row. Six it takes
six to win last year, six the year before, and
one the opening game of this year. That's thirteen total.

(03:13):
And in the fourteenth game along comes Florida, and man,
it was a battle. It was a brutal battle, there's
no two ways about it. First, before we go to that,
I want you to we'll go to a big John Fanta.
He's a Northeastern reporter, loves all the big East guys.
He's very sycophantic with a lot of the coaches up there,
and he's on a show this morning talking about you know,

(03:37):
when coaches give nothing but coach speak. People hate it
when coaches show their passion and fire. There's a sector
that doesn't like it. Yeah, it just depends. Go ahead,
John Fanta.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
You're a victim. I don't want to make these coaches victims.
But you create this monster with your own success. So
you do all these things. You come out and say,
we're going to be one of the best teams in
the preseason. Somebody tweeted out their rankings person and he said,
you know, number twelve, Like we're number one until somebody

(04:07):
takes it from us. He leans into it, so he creates.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
That monster.

Speaker 5 (04:12):
This year.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
Remember the game they lost against Creighton where he's like
two rings, two rings, big deal, you beat us in
the regular season. Look, Danny her.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
Is good for college back.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
He likes being the villain. Well that's all good because
he's doing a good job of being villainous. That's his position.
Now people are like, yeah, you're kind of a jerk.
That's just another word that gets used. So here he
is my wife. I love my wife. She's the best
person who ever lived. And yesterday she's like, he's so
so great, the way he loves his players. I'm like,

(04:45):
he's a jerk. And then they show that clip of.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
Him just historic run that these guys have been on
and the guys that have won the uniform last couple
of years. If if it's going to come to end,
come to an end for us, Yeah, I wouldn't it
to be in a game where we lost to a
lower seed. And you know that's a my honor. I
guess in a way that this went down. What a

(05:09):
jerk comment.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
That is too. At least we didn't lose to a
lower seed. That'd be beneath me. I'm Dan Hurley. He's
the guy who yelled at the referee during this season.
Don't turn your back on me. I'm the best efing
coach in the game or in the world, or something
of that extent. I mean, that's a jerk move. Who

(05:30):
talks like that. But there he was crying. He loves
his players so much. It's about them. It's not about him.
It's not my wife. Just fish hook in mouth just
getting reeled right in. He's so great, he's so awesome.
I was like, Eh, you gotta look at the whole

(05:50):
deal here. She doesn't know about that. I'm the best
fing coach who ever lived. Comment or taunting the Creighton fans,
or just the usual cockiness that he's spewing all the time.
You heard John Fantas say, how can we be ranked twelve?
We're number one until somebody takes it from Well, Florida
took it from you. It's over. It did so. Then yesterday,

(06:13):
while leaving the floor, I was crying. He walks out
out of the arena into the little tunnel thing there,
and some guys rolling video on him, and he starts
saying to the Baylor people who are waiting to take
the floor, you know how the next teams get to
play thirty minutes after the previous game ends, so they

(06:35):
have to wait in the wings, and then once the
current teams leave then they can run out there and
start their warm up drills and all that business. He
starts yelling, or he's saying loudly to them, you know,
I hope you don't get effing cheated by the refs
like we did. He's saying to the Baylor people. And
this is a report from a North Carolina news outlet,

(06:58):
Queen City News, And just let it roll on its own.
You'll hear the tape and then the reaction to it
about the reporter who filmed it and Dan Hurley and
his assistance trying to bully the news organization into deleting
the video, which is nothing but reality.

Speaker 5 (07:23):
That's the video that's gone viral online of Yukon head
coach Dan Hurley voicing his displeasure with the referees and
the Huskies loss to the number one ranked Florida Gators.
Charles Sports Lives owned Joey Ellis took that video and
then was confronted by Yukon Director of Communications Bobby Mullen.
Mullin asked for that video that had gone viral to
be removed. He then threatened Joey, saying he would quote
ruin his life if he didn't. This was heard by

(07:46):
multiple other reporters and staff on hand. Our management asked
Mullin first natment all the incident. Here's what he said.
The lasting image of coach Hurley leaving the court should
have been his walking off the court arm in arm
with the seniors overwhelmed with emotion. Instead, a reporter who
in an area should not have been recorded on a
cell phone, a private comment made to members of another
coaching staff. End quote Charles Ford's Live and Queen City

(08:08):
News stand by Joey Ellis's reporting.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Way to go, Queen City News, you stand by your reporter, Gus.
We've had passes to arenas all the time. Yes, allowed
to be in those exit areas, and that's what we do.
We record things. Here's Dan Hurley being a jerk and
then having his assistant contact the reporter delete the video

(08:32):
or I could ruin your life. What ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
I've been in those tunnels many times at the NCAA tournament.
There are people coming and going constantly through them. Oh,
you take whatever pictures you like, just don't carry out
an unofficial cup or bottle that doesn't say nc double aw.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
That's the most important thing. You're right. If you take
out a Gatorade bottle and Gatorade's not a sponsor, they'll
tackle you.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
They came after Dick Vital one time. I said you
can't have the bub I don't care.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
That's all that matters is the visuals. Yeah, what you
have out there. But this whole notion of how dare
you he should have been shown walking off arm in
arm with a priest and a nun and saying the
rosary while he was walking away, thanking God for the
opportunity to even be in the tournament. That's the Well,
that's not what he did. He's screaming f bombs, saying

(09:25):
that he was cheated by the referees and telling the
Baylor people, I hope you don't get it from cheated
like we did. I'm sorry, Dan Hurley. That's your personality.
That's why a lot of people see you as a
jerk load. That's all it is. You're nothing more than
a loud mouthed cheese log who loves attention and can't

(09:46):
stand when it's over. It's killing him today that the
attention bus has driven on and now he's got to
figure out how he's going to get back to be
the center of attention. Oh, he'll think of something later
in the week. Golly, what did you guys show? Delete
that video or I'll ruin your life. Why did they
show the video of the guy robbing the bank instead

(10:07):
of showing him having breakfast with his children that morning?
Why would they do that because that's part of the story.
That's how that goes, Dan Hurley, He's overplayed his hand,
congratulations on the two rings that you taunt the Creighton
fans with. But that's that's that's the past, now and

(10:27):
so and then screaming at Luke Murray. Hey, we got
a lot of love for Luke Murray around here. He
helped Louisville through the Chris Mack time period here and
his dad, Bill Murray's hilarious. We loved having him around.
But we all saw Dan Hurley in the game as well,
the videos everywhere of him go shut up, telling him
to shut up in the middle of game, when Luke
Murray's simply trying to give him information, pertinent information that

(10:49):
he needs up to that second to make sure he
knows that such as four fouls or this is happening,
or we only have three seconds on the shot clock,
or whatever it is that Luke Murray's trying to say,
and then the guy just guns him down. Shut up.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
Yeah, just think Dan Hurley was the guy that UK
targeted first off exactly right last year.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
And look look at Pope. Look how awesome Pope is.
Mark Pope's postgames are brilliant. His command of the English
language is beautiful. People dishonor themselves all the time, like
Hurley when they're throwing all these f bombs around and
yelling and this or that, and they have to go
to vulgarity route because their brain isn't big enough to

(11:27):
think of better words than that. Mark Pope is the
case study in how to handle yourself with grace and
integrity and intelligence, no matter whether he's up or down.
You know they got hammered by Bama for instance. Pope
handles it like a grown up man, with grace and

(11:47):
charm and intelligence and introspection, which I don't even know
if Dan Hurley knows that word. But that's the difference. UK,
you did such a beautiful job higher, Mark Pope. I mean,
it's turned out to be the perfect fit. And in
the beginning people are like, what is he got off?

Speaker 4 (12:04):
He?

Speaker 1 (12:05):
I don't know. No one's complaining. Now. As the Cat's
head to the Sweet sixteen and Dan Hurley heads to
the woods where he can scream all the curse words
he wants, everybody goes, oh, he's edgy, No he's not.
He's trash. His teams have won him a couple of championships,
but that's no way to vulgarize the rest of the universe.

(12:25):
We don't need that. We're all just trying to live
our lives too, Dan, And it's more than just sweaty
kids putting a ball in a hoop. Get a little
prospective there, Homie. Back in a minute on news radio,
and don't threaten reporters ever. Whoever that is taking that
video out there is is doing their job. You gave

(12:47):
him the content and it's an important window into who
you really are. Oh he's just diagree. Yeah, that's part
of the whole package. You dodged a really big problem
there at university. Can ducky Mitch Barnhart brilliant hire in
Mark Pope proven again this weekend? Back in a few
on news radio. Wait forty whas
