Speaker 1 (00:00):
Georgia Bulldogs came rolling into Lexington and a lot of
people are like, Oh, we're gonna get slapped around like
a rag doll. That wasn't exactly the case. Here's George's coach,
Kirby's smart.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
So I think I'll open with immense amount of respect
for coach Stoops in the atmosphere and the culture he's
created here. I tried to tell everybody all week, but
nobody would listen to me. I know what this team's
made out of. I know how tough he coaches. I
know several of his coaches on the staff. I've known
him for a long time. I have tremendous respect. And

(00:30):
when they get disrespected like they did last week, and
they listened to it for a week, you know they
come out ready to play.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Well. Was that what it was? It was a response
to losing to lowly South Carolina. It's not really lowly anymore.
Let's bring in George's uber fan. His name's Cody Patterson.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Hey, Cody tey Man, what is going on? Brother?

Speaker 1 (00:52):
So what was your feeling prior to kickoff? And then
tell me about your feelings when it was all over.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
So, prior to kickoff, had a friend of mine over
had the Impello's Aeries on the counter, just ready for
an easy going butt kicking on the TV. And as
soon as I heard Kroger Field in that first drive,
I kind of started to feel uncomfortable. I thought, well, man,
I could have bought a ticket for thirty dollars an
hour ago, and look at this crowd. And as the

(01:20):
game went further and further, my cholesterol went higher and higher,
and I just completely ignored my friend on the couch
and I'm just glued to the TV, thinking is this
the way it all comes crashing down after three years?
And I mean I was wound up after the game.
Carry I didn't go to bed. I had to read
because I was so turned up. And I felt relieved, honestly,

(01:44):
because let me tell you what, like Coach Stoop said
in your clip, Kentucky came to ball. They heard the
message loud and clear, and it was very obvious Georgia
was caught sleeping on the Cats.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Yeah that's interesting, but you already cited. For several years,
they've built up this incredible win streak at home win
streak and the SEC win streak here there and all
that and You're right, was ready to come crashing down.
So why wouldn't that awaken a team at say halftime.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Well, you know a lot of my friends, like you know,
we're texting me and say, what's going on? Who is
this I'm seeing on the TV? And you know, I
always take heart in Kirby Smart as the master of
halftime adjustment. Do you think about our last couple of
championship runs, very sleepy first half, that we come out
and just open a can in the second half. But
it's like he couldn't get through. I don't know why.

(02:36):
I mean, Kentucky's defensive line was having their way, their
running back was getting through every possible crevice, and you
know Georgia committing almost one hundred yards of penalties, and
you know, Kentucky's defense just playing shutdown football gave them
a chance. And I'll be honest, heary on that. On
that fourth down, I was hoping and praying Mark Stewkes
would continue to be conservative and punt the ball, and

(02:59):
that's exactly what he did and he probably should have
gone for it. I'm sure you know these fancy people
that say, well, the analytics say right, I'm sure the
analytics said do it. But he was banking on his
defense and tough loss for them.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
But yeah, here and growth, here's coach Stoops on that
decision to punch that you're referencing.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
You know people are going to question the fourth down.
I don't. I don't. You know. You know, I've been
honest with you for twelve years. If I say I
made a mistake like last week, I'll tell you I don't.
I don't regret punting that ball. I felt like if
we went for it there and don't make it, then
our offense, if we stop him, has to go the

(03:39):
length of the field.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
I agree with him on that that that I understand
the logic applied, But a lot of people are mad
at him over that.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
Yeah, it's just you know, with these new two minute timeouts,
it's almost like if you're losing and it's a close game,
you get a free timeout now. And so I really
thought with the way his defense was played, he would
be okay with that, and our offense is just lost.
Carson Beck, you know, had that scary fall down. We
couldn't run. He had a couple of good throws. But
we're fortunate Terry to have won that game and I'm concerned.

(04:13):
We were off next week and then where do we go?
Tuscaloosa prime time? The only teams beating us over the
last three years the Alabama Crimsons.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Oh boy, did they get two weeks to get ready
for it?

Speaker 3 (04:25):
Though that's better, I guess, I just I hope it's
not in our head. And you know, you look at
what UK has coming down the pipe, I mean, anybody
in the SEC. I'll just say, Terry, I'm loving that
Tennessee's gonna play at Oklahoma, that Texas is gonna play
at Auburn. Like these kinds of matchups are very exciting.
And two, I don't want to forget about our cards

(04:48):
because they've got over the next seven games three ranked opponents,
and so if they make a run, they're going to
be in a really good position to get in the
college football playoffs.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
All right, So you read all the Georgia things in
base you know, threads and all the other things that
go on. There is there fear about the stability of
this Georgia squad or is this just an anomaly over
the weekend against Kentucky.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
I would say, you know, Terry, in the groups I
run in, it's more of just a down week. I mean,
you gotta believe that Kirby is gonna coach his guts out.
The team will respond. It's full of studs. You know,
You've probably got seven or eight guys playing on Sunday
next year. We feel disrespected after the game. You know
how we lost to Alabama last year, so I see
a rebound. But it's tough when you got to play

(05:36):
at Alabama, at Texas and at Old Miss all in
the same year. I mean, that's a brutal run for us.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
Well, you're yeah, you're not wrong. I mean that's the
The schedule for Georgia is tough. But you were ranked
one for a reason. So how do you feel personally
about not being in the one slot? Isn't that a
more favorable place to lurk and wait to seize your moment?

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Absolutely? I think any any ranking above twelve I'm happy with,
to be completely honest with you, that's the goal. Now,
that's the unfortunate, unintended consequence of this twelve spot playoffs.
You're just trying to get to the top twelve by
the end of the season, and you get a chance, bro,
I think the pressure is off when it comes to ranking.
I definitely like it better than being number one, number two.

(06:24):
I don't care if they put us number twelve. To
be honest with you, I really don't.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Yeah, well, Texas is not playing. I mean, that's that's
just that's a heck of a squad with a you know,
an amazing future sitting there for them. Let's see, who
do they have next? La Monroe, Louisiana Monroe. Okay, they'll
they'll wipe the face of the earth with them, Mississippi
State after that. Then they go to Oklahoma on October twelve.

(06:49):
That's when we'll see some some good times of plenty,
and then you guys get them on October nineteenth. So
they're gonna they have an easy path for a while.
But once they hit Oklahoma and Texas, excuse me and
your guys at Georgia, I expect for them to take
a punch or two. We'll just see.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
Well, and the fact that the SEC doesn't have divisions
anymore is really intriguing, right because there's some strategy now
when it comes to the playoffs. Do you want to
get to the championship game and have to play that
extra Is that extra game worth the buye? You know,
compared to just getting your ticket and maybe playing a
team that's not so good. So I'm really interested to

(07:28):
see how the strategy changes in those last two or
three weeks of the football season, now that you got
twelve teams that are going to get a crack at it.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Yeah, UK's got to move forward. You guys, like you said,
you got a rest week, a bye week, so you
can you can prep as deeply as you can for
Bama and that'll be fun to watch. But UK's got
an easy ride this Saturday, and I think they're going
to feel a whole lot better once the next one's over.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
My uncle is saying, you know, you better be in
church frame for the dogs, and I told him, and
I think we might need a love offering on top
of that with how we perform. So got some work
to do her.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
Cody, great, talking to you again. We'll see you soon.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
Thank you, brother.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
All right, that's Cody Patterson. He's the world's number one
Georgia fan. A lot of people want to argue with
him about that position, but I think it belongs to him.
