Yeah, okay, now I knowthis is like the year of living
dangerously. What this is life?Oh no, well you know, I
mean I got sucked underground. I'mdead, I'm coming you you brought me

(00:21):
back. But that's fascinating. I'mgonna have to go up there with my
grandchildren and see that. Oh it'sterrific. It's quiet, it's peaceful,
plenty of room to walk around otherpeople. It's it's gorgeous. I didn't
know that, and I drive bythere all the time of Yeah. Frankfurt
Avenue, which is now repainted tobe calming repaved. It's repaved, but
also repainted. Okay, the lanesthey've they've that's got a big dried the

(00:46):
center turning lane that no one usesbecause it's also a beam a railroad track.
There is no turning left. It'sa railroad track. But put this
gigantic turning lane in the middle becauseit makes people feel good. Thank goodness.
It was repaved because it was tearingup my car. Well, it's
because they didn't they do like ahundred year repair on the water system.

(01:07):
Oh yeah, it's one of theoldest pipes they had. Yeah. Yeah,
so they did. They destroyed thewhole thing. Now, I understand
the water in Louisville is supposed tobe the finest water in the country,
right, and it's coming from theOhio River. Yeah, but you grew
up here. You should know that. I listen. I can't believe that.
When I was a kid, Iswam in that river. I wouldn't
get in there now for anything inthe world. Well maybe if Cherry weren't
you in Valley Station, wasn't itthat the right neighborhood? I was in

(01:30):
Valley Station, that's right. Itgrew up bigger farm. Yeah, the
river turns around there, it doescome down past Valley High School. You
wouldn't swim in the old you didswim? Yeah, yeah, I know.
What the hell? I was sixteenyears old, I think. Yeah.
Did you ever see it freeze over? No, I've never Well,
I've seen ice on it, butI've never seen it freeze over. But

(01:52):
I saw pictures of where they usedto drive across it at one time,
I think in the late thirties orearlier. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Conrad here because the Louisville International Festivalof Film is underway starting tomorrow night,
Tomorrow night, official opening tomorrow andwe have two a great official opening film
tomorrow night, and we have aclosing film this day. What's the dress

(02:14):
code? Is this? Like JohnFetterman, the Senator? Can I wear
a hoodie in shorts? See themovie? Don't get me started? Just
here to see the movie. It'sa black tie then, but I have
a black heart? Is that goodenough? We have two local films this

(02:35):
year, opening night and closing night. The great film opening night was my
Teacher out there at Fern Creek. It's it's a beautiful little film. And
the closing night film, I happento have a scene in it. Oh,
it is two assassins. It's calledroach motel. And no one's ever
used that phrase before for a movietitled roach Motel. I've used roach,

(03:00):
I mean, I've used the titlebefore, but I've always asked for a
roach. Of course, did youunderstand what that was? Did you quit
smoking the marijuana? What happens? That's a roach? Also? That's a
leftover? Yeah yeah, yeah,by fight. But you were out in
Hollywood with all those one of yours. You were out in Hollywood with all

(03:21):
those cool hippies. Yeah, sixties, and see those days are gone.
Man, I know that you sold. Didn't you sell your California home and
got out of there? I did, And I'm telling you it's worth so
much money now I can't believe it, right, because you bought it for
thirteen thousand dollars even less where inBeverly in the fifties. You know,

(03:43):
I was telling them, how muchdid you pay for your house? Real?
You want to know? That's allI want to know. That's why
I'm asking. I paid sixty threefive in what town in Los Angeles or
in Woodland Hill. Wow, it'snow worth sixty three point five. You
couldn't buy a mailbox for that money, now, No, you can't,

(04:05):
you know, And it's worth overto me and now of course wow.
Yeah. Well but anyway, Iwas just I was a guest at the
Rotary Club yesterday and I was talkingabout this about Beverly Hills good And one
of the stories I was telling themwas you might be interested in was when
I was making extra money for Robinson's, I was delivering Christmas gifts and I

(04:28):
pulled up to Barbara Stanwick's house, and she was standing out in front of
the place. Here he goes, you know, okay, and she said,
oh my god, I'm so gladyou're here. You could help me
out. I said, what's theproblem. She said, I've locked myself
out of the house and I can'tget in. She said, there's a
window around the side over here,if you crawl in, would you mind
going in and opening got my door? This is the true story Barbara stan
Barbara's famous movie actress. Yes,why didn't she climb in her own window?

(04:53):
Because she's too short to reach it? So I she boosted me.
Did she know you from the movies? Oh? Yeah, we're old friends,
see her? But oh Babs,Oh yeah, Babs? And yeah.
When what's her famous film? It'sthe one about the valley Valley of
the Dolls. Does that sound right? I don't remember that? Okay,
I don't know. But anyway,Barbara Stanwick, thanks for interrupting my story.

(05:15):
Sorry, go ahead, So wearingI mean these are pearls of wisdom.
Paint the picture for us. Soanyway I crawled through. Is she
wearing a nightgown or something? Orwhat I mean? Paint the picture for
us Conrad. It was Shay's blueand it was flowing with the breeze.
The Beverly Hills breeze is different thanthe breeze anywhere else anyway. So I

(05:38):
crawled over the window. The firstthing I see is this eight by ten
of Weisenhower saying love Always, BabsIke. I crawled down off the desk
and I go out. I'll goaround, open up the front door,
and I god out up the frontdoor. She stand there. I said,
hey, Babs, thanks for stoppingby. Come on. She so

(06:00):
hard. I tell you, itwas great. That was so you.
Yeah? Was it a mansion.Yeah, we're pretty at the end of
Coldwater Canyon, just just before yougo through the gates up there to uh
where randolph Hurst mistress what what washer name? Uh, Kim Kardashian.
I don't know. William Randolph Hurst. He had a lot of mistresses.

(06:24):
Yeah, and the main one,the one was it his dad? Who
was the famous movie Blue Blue? What does he say you're talking about with?
Yeah? Yeah, what's the famouscitizen Kane? What's he saying?
At the end? Memory losing alittle bit, I guess I couldn't remember
the name of that film because it'sone hundred years ago. But it's about

(06:45):
the family, right, It's aboutthe Hurst family, right, Yeah,
it is. Yeah, that remindsme. I tell you this story.
And in one of these times we'vebeen together. I didn't interrupt you over
here. No, absolutely not.We like about Louis and I. You
remember Louis and I. I rememberthat name. I'm in the years ago.
Is he a comedian or not?Yeah? And so we were all

(07:06):
standing in line to collect our unemploymentand Louis and I was right in front
of me, and they asked youa bunch of these questions when you get
up there. And so she saysto him, she says, are you
still in the business active? Yes? I am. She said, you
have a manager, Yes I do. She said, are you trying to
look for work for yourself? YesI am. You still have an agent,
yes I do. What is hedoing to find your work? Lowie

(07:28):
looked at her and he says, well, I don't know what you asked
him. He's four behind me.That's a true story. I looked up
Barbara Stanwick on Wikipedia. Yeah.So the first thing you should do is
go to the personal relationships and marriagessection here Robert Taylor, Robert Wagner.
I don't see she is Conrad inhere. No, she was married to

(07:50):
Robert Taylor. Robert Taylor. Okay, okay, beautiful woman, Yeah,
super nice. I bumped into hertwo or three times post office at her
was Barbara Stanwick, married to RonaldReagan's one of the questions she wasn't was
she? No? No, No, that was Marin O'Hara. People just
ask questions online and they pop upas though they're relevant. Oh yeah,

(08:11):
she's pretty. There's a picture ofher in nineteen thirty nine. What year
do you go to Hollywood? Inthe fifteen fifty seven? Fifty seven?
Were there? He has a seriousquestion on his face. Okay, so
she's already fifty when you when youwere went to Hollywood. So she was
like, hey, pretty boy,Hey, pretty boy, climbed through my

(08:33):
window. Is that what's going on? Yeah? You're twenty, and she's
I got it? Now, yougot it? Now? Were the red
carpets back there back then? Likethey are now there it's more of just
a big fashion show now, theywere still red. I kind of figured
they were, yeah, because youknow, the ladies would bring out their

(08:54):
dress and tell everybody. I'm wearingthis, I'm wearing that Red Carver.
Today is not like it used tobe because they had the big league lights,
and they had all the cameras, and they had the photographers there,
the reporters there. I mean,it was usually a big deal. That
that doesn't seem to be happening anymore, even when we were doing the Emmys
and I was governor at the Academyfor twelve years, and he's sitting there

(09:15):
going, what hell's going on?Yeah? That's right? All right,
So your film festivals this week, then we're talking about people who've made new
films and you're featuring are these shortfilms? Are full length? These are
full length and shorts? And wehave now this year, we've introduced a
sports film category. We now havea sports film category, and we're just
presenting those films. Nice talking toyou again. Yeah, Okay, he

(09:39):
was supposed to slide out. I'llsee it's a duck walk. So anyway,
we now have a sports films andwe're presenting those films at Louisville Slugger.
Oh cool, Yeah, but thereso there are different venues for the
Louisville International Festival of Film. Yeah, we've got about five locations. How
many locations do we have? Seehe's looking for he's looking for reference here.

(10:00):
The website is Louisvillefilmfestival dot org,and that's where you can get tickets.
And it starts obviously tomorrow night andthen runs through what Sunday, runs
through Saturday nighters, closing night startsat five o'clock tomorrow night on the red
carpet. And you're gonna be ninetyone years old one next month? Do
you still do those after party things? And you're up till three in the

(10:22):
morning? I still do forward andback flips? You are nuts? Why
don't you sit tight? You gotyou got a few more minutes or you're
gonna leave. I got a fewmore. I want to pick your brain
about some more Hollywood stuff. We'reout of time for this segment. Okay,
I'll get you some water and whatabout a what about a cookie?
What about some Mexican food? Isaw some of that out there? Ian.
Where's that from? Why do wehave lunch out there? I think

(10:45):
it had something to do with themidday duo? Okay, so they brought
anyway, there's some I'll take youout to our incredible buffet, and then
we'll come back here and continue ourconversation. Conrad Okay, Conrad Bachman Film
Legend. The International Festival of Filmis this week. It starts tomorrow,
runs through Saturday night, really Sundaymorning, because Conrade likes to go home

(11:07):
with no pants on at about sixo'clock in the morning when the sun's coming
up. Paul miles about taking picturesof the water reservo. What is that
beast? Oh my god, it'sConrad pants less again. The website is
Louisvillefilmfestival dot org. And the reasonhe knows that is because he's waiting for
me. You're a Hollywood wild man. You gotta live the lifestyle. You

(11:28):
got to keep it up. Backin a minute. That's the Hooray for

(11:50):
Hollywood theme. Of course, wehave to use that when Conrad Bachmann visits
with us. You're gonna be ninetyone years old, eighty one November twenty
sixth, So send gift. You'relike cash. Don't you see how much
I have? Well, you canhave whatever I have on me right now.
If you could double what you gaveme last year, that'd be great.
What about that stack that that's anice stack. Is that enough cheddar

(12:13):
for you? That's enough cheddar Man. I would not walk out on the
street with that pocket. Okay, you're such an act. So, ladies
and gentlemen. He's been in onehundred and forty nine films, and he's
been assassinated in one hundred and fortytwo of them. Yeah, yeah,
yeah, people love they there's evena reunion over one of your films from

(12:39):
the nineteen sixties, Tremors. Isthat the sixties, seventies, seventies,
No Tremors was in the eighties ninetyone? Oh, I was all the
way nineteen ninety one. Oh,now I think about that. That's interesting.
I'm going to be ninety one andI did it in nineteen Okay,
cool, But you're still shooting things. You were featured in one of the

(13:01):
films that's coming out, I do. I have a small bit in That's
okay that you're still you don't mindgetting in front of cameras. No,
no cameras love me. Well, yeah, I've got a picture of you.
It's not in this studio, butit's around here somewhere. You signed
to me years ago, and youlook like a demonic monster. But you
you signed it to me. Iappreciate that. I remember that picture.
I remember the day it happened.I told you that story. Thelleisville International

(13:24):
Festival of Film is starts tomorrow, runs through Saturday night, and it's at
various venues around town. Cindy Howard'salso in the studio with us. Sendy
nice to see you. Nice. You were at Valley High School at one
time? Is that right? Yes? I was assistant principal at Valley High
School. How many years ago wasthat? I've been hard in twenty eighteen,

(13:46):
oh few years. So how's Valley? Is it healthy? Oh?
Yeah, Valley's great place it is. That's where he hails, and so
he's like a little bit of ahero in Valley Station. Absolutely. We
even named the auditorium after That's whatI thought. I remember that celebration a
few years ago. The auditorium iscalled, yes, Conrad Auditory Auditorium,

(14:11):
not theater auditorium. As a matterof fact, I was there the day
they were building that, and Igot up on stage into a monologue and
a tap dance. So I said, I'm the first actor to ever work
on this theater. That's so awesome. You went to UK, Right,
I did. Did you leave collegeto go to Hollywood? Yeah? Yeah,

(14:31):
yeah, I went out there undercontract the twentieth in nineteen fifties.
Don't use Hollywood language. That's twentiethcentury Fox. You use the twentieth century
Fox Studios. People know what you'retalking about twentieth They might think you're talking
about the day of the month.Yeah, those were some great days,
man. I was telling somebody thatI think Cindy and I were talking about

(14:52):
this. I mean you could justwalk on that lot and you could just
feel all those great stars and thosemovies, and you just feel it.
Yeah, it's not there today.Who'd you eat lunch with that was famous?
Did you? Did? You?You would Clark Gable say that?
I don't have a tune of fishSandy. I would have loved that.
But I've been to Gables House.Yeah, yeah, that's pretty awesome.

(15:13):
Yeah. You mentioned Barbara Stanwick earlier? I did. What about love scenes?
Anybody we know Julia Roberts. Uh, my first screen kiss was with
god? What was her? Ohmy god, he's forgotten Sendy. That
is a bad thing, isn't it. Oh? Yeah, I can't think
it was. It was an AndyGriffith show. And I can't remember the
name. You kissed somebody on anAndy Griffith show. I can't believe they

(15:33):
allowed that. Mattlock. It wason Mattlock. I was on Mattlock.
Yeah, well that's different than theAndy Griffiths show. Yeah, that's true,
because only amy Andy on Mattlock.Andy was chasing those hot girls,
the girl at the pharmacy. I'mtalking about an Andy Griffiths show. And
then they got rid of her becausehe was too young. He was he
looked like a lecherous old man.So you read that someplace, didn't you,

(15:56):
or figured it out on my own, because then along comes miss Crump,
who was you know, like shealways looked like she she needed to
go to the bathroom. These werefun shows in those days. Yeah,
except that you find out later years, decades later, that Andy Griffith and
Helen Crump were having an affair inreal life. That's how she got the

(16:17):
job. I didn't know that.Seeing Hollywood, boy, I know a
few things. No wonder she gotall the lead roles. Now I know
why she was always on camera. It messed up her career. Actually,
Andy was so great to work with, except you would have your dialogue all
over your chest. What? Yeah, whenever we had over the and when

(16:37):
it was over his shoulder, Imean over my shoulder on him, he
would have all the dialogue all overme. I probably should go too far
with that because he couldn't remember hiswatchmat lot close and you'll see him.
He's looking, he's reading dialogue becausethey've hung great. I picked up so
there's essentially Q cards on your chest. I picked up the habit too,
man. It worked great. Imean Marlon Brando did that in the Godfather.

(17:02):
They have pictures of Brando. Man, they have pictures of James Kahn
with Q cards taped to his front. So Brando, you never learned a
line. No, I got totell you. One of these days we'll
talk about Brando, because he what'swrong with today? He lived down near
me when I was living in SantaMonica Canyon and we'd all hang out this

(17:23):
place called Doc Laws. Uh.There would be Marlon, there would be
John Payne, Lee Marvin when hewas first getting started, and uh,
and god, what was the wrestlerBomber Kolkovich? Who was Henry Culke on
the William Bendix Show. That washis part. I don't know anything about
what you know? You don't you'reyoung. I mean, I know who

(17:45):
the first guy was? You mentionedMarlon Brando? No one after that?
I brought up Brando? Anyway? Was mentioned after that? Rod Taylor?
Yeah? No, what I wasdown there too, all right? So
Lee Marvin, Yeah, Lee Marvin. He's a big tough guy. Yeah.
He was just getting started and thenhe hit with M Squad. Yeah.
But anyway, Brando was he washe a difficult guy to deal with

(18:07):
because he was, you know, like he did. He wouldn't accept his
Academy award. He had someone elsetake it to make a message. I've
never I know. I mean, was he difficult? Was he a brooding
actor who's getaway a character? Oh? He was very down to earth.
He was moody, and he wasvery blunt and short to the point,

(18:27):
how come you're never moody? You'realways happy every time I talk to you.
That's because I'm in your presence,and whenever I'm in someone's presence of
your stature, it just brings allright, Well, that's right, he's
this toy in with me, folks, That's all it is. This man
has been in a million films, and he's compelling every time you see him.

(18:52):
I'm just glad that you remember tocome home now and again and get
on the radio show. I amsitting here witnessing one of the greatest disc
jockeys in the world who just aboutwas at a loss for words. Almost
I was almost man trying to putit to us so close. But I
mean, though, who is notwho is the greatest on this radio than

(19:14):
Terry Minor. There are a lotof names I could slide in there,
but thanks for that compliment. Allright, Cindy, you have a film
that's in the Louisville International Festival ofFilm. I do. I have a
film short. It's a seven minutefilm short called Modern Living and You,
and it's a teaser to Roach Motown, which is a feature and it's the
closing night movie at the festival. And didn't you say you're working on another

(19:38):
film? That's I just finished it. I was very fortunate. I had
a director from New York called me. She saw some work that I've done
and flew me down to the DominicanRepublic for two months on the beach and
we did a film called Boca Chica, and it's at at the festivals,
going to the festival circuit right now, Yeah, you're the producer, right,

(20:00):
No, what's what's your role inthat? I'm an actress. You're
an actor in that one, okay. In the DR film. In the
DR film Dominican Republic film. Well, it was filmed down the Dominican a
public because it's so cheap to makemovies down. Of course, Jennifer Lopez
was down there filming when when wewere there. I mean, everybody goes
down there now to film the movies. So but yeah, it will come

(20:21):
out probably in a couple of months. All good at the theaters and the
NHB. What kind of a characterare you in this film? I am
getting married to an uncle. Inthe movie centers around our wedding and it's
about a little girl that's wanting tobe a singer and comes from a very
poor family or family doesn't want herto do that. They want her to
stay at home and help support thefamily. And the whole film just takes

(20:44):
place. It all takes place duringthe time of the wedding. I'm sure
it's lovely because it's Dominican Republic.Oh yeah, And so how many films
are we talking about? Conrad andthis whole film festival. Gee, I
don't know. We had like aover close to two hundred films submitted,
but I think we have. Howmany films do we have? We had
about one hundred and eighty films submittedand we chose one hundred and thirty two.

(21:06):
Is that one hundred and thirty twoin the festival? Yes? Yes,
yeah, it's huge. Who breaksthe bad news to the fifties that
didn't get in? Well, youknow it's not him because he's mister happy,
go lucky. He gives up tosomebody. That's your job. Yes,
all right, So Conrad, thereare different venues to see these films.
It's Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Yes, Thursday night is the

(21:27):
opening night, then all day Friday, all day Saturday, and then Saturday
night is the closing night film andthe closing night party is at the hotel.
The opening night party is a matterof fact, we're screening the opening
night party this year at Muhammad Ali. Oh cool, and the party is
going to be so they walk rightout of the film straight into the party.
So I'll see you'll carry there.Okay, here this is important.

(21:52):
There's more than one hotel in thistown. You just said the hotel.
Yeah, which hotel is? Seehere we go our headquarters, check up
and check in, and we havetwo screening rooms at the town Place sweets
on Jefferson West, Jefferson One WesJefferson. We're also showing at the Holiday
ann On Market. Okay, andthen we have Slugger that we're showing and

(22:12):
then Muhammad Alisa. I love itall right. You can get full information
and tickets for Louisville Film Festival dotorg. That's the website for that.
Conrad Bachman, Louisville legend, ValleyStation legend, Hollywood actor can't remember the
woman he kissed first in the films? Who was the best kisser in any
film? You're in, Clark Gable, Okay, say that. I knew.

(22:36):
I thought you were gonna say rock. I could see it coming.
You waited. I was waiting foryou to give the line because I knew
that you would. Answered. What'sher name? I don't remember her?
Oh my god, you know howshe's passed away now, but that doesn't
matter. She has relatives in theiradel Jane, oh, Jane Mansfield.

(22:57):
Wow, that was an un pleasantdeath too. We shouldn't be laughing.
Jane Mansfield the best, I mean, stunning. Yeah, you've worked with
everybody. They were getting a fightwith Sinatra. No, but I can
tell you this that it's a longstory, but I did hurry up.

(23:18):
I'm running out of time. Idid talk to him on the phone one
morning, okay, but it wasn'ta fight. He loved. He loved
people come over drink with me,and the next thing you know, he's
punching in the face and throwing youin a pool. Yeah. But what
a great house he had down inPalm Springs. Love to go to that
house. Yeah, went to thathouse a lot. I got a buddy
that went to dinner there one time. Oh he just he was like he
put down the phone. It's likeFrank Sinatra just said, we're coming to

(23:41):
dinner. Yeah, So so hesaid, I gotta go find a beard
to be It was huge. Yeah, fantastic, Conrad. It's great to
see you again, buddy, andTerry. I might say the same,
you might, but it was greatto see me. I heard that Louisville
