Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know, I was just watching the monitor over here
and they're talking with the guy that runs our Louisville
Sports Commission, Greg Fonte's his name, and he's talking about
the upcoming half iron Man that we're getting here, and
he's worried about algae and the river, and I thought, Oh,
that's so nice. Hopefully that'll clear in time for the
Iron Man, which is like two weeks away. But I

(00:21):
couldn't help but notice behind him while Greg was on TV,
he had a big cheese head hanging on the wall,
and that's warmed my heart. They all come up as lequers,
one of the greatest songs of all time. I have
no idea why Casey casem never put it in his
Top forty show. You know, it's popular. It has been
since the nineteen fifties or forties somewhere back there. We

(00:45):
now have a Louisvillion who's leaving our media family. He's
always going to be in our family, but he's moving
to be in a very very nice zone. That would
be the Cheese, the land of Cheese and Milk in Wisconsin.
His name is Dominic Yates. Welcome back, Real d Yates.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Hey, it's a pleasure.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
That's a great introduction with that song, and I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
I saw your tweet earlier today and it made me
very happy. So Dominic, folks, you know him from the
Courier Journal days. Then he was on WLKY reporting sports,
and then a while back you said, well, I'm gonna
step away from here for a little bit. And then
so now you announced today I will give you the floor.
Tell us what's up.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Yeah, yeah, so thanks for having me as always has
always been a pleasure. And yeah, so starting well, really
this Monday is when I get started. I'll be the
new Green Bay Packers multi media reporter for the Milwaukee Journal,
so I'll be based out of Green Bay and yeah,
I'll be covering the Packers full time. So I'm excited
and blessed for the opportunity.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Have you been there before, dom.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
This past week was the first time I was there.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Got a little fill in the lay of the land
for a few days, so, but before that, I had
never stepped foot in Wisconsin.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Dude, I went there. I've been there a bunch of times,
of course, but I went there when I was in
high school with my friends. I got out of the
car and kissed the parking lot. It was like, I
was so happy to finally see lambeau Field up close.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Yeah, it was pretty cool. It was cool, especially with yesterday.
I was able to go there for the first.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
Time just to see it, and I guess that was
the first little start of reality setting in that it's
gonna be the new office.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Yeah, well that's one. We talked about this all the time.
It's one of the few stadiums or you know, sports
fields that's still on the same piece of ground. I
mean in terms of famous fields, because there's lambeau Field,
Notre Dames Football Stadium. Who else did we say, in
Wrigley Field, Fenway Pie, Benway Pick. There aren't many they're

(02:59):
still on the same you know piece of land. Like
Yankee Stadium they built next to the old one. So
it's like that's that's just one of those sacred sports
shrines and you get to work there all the time.
You say you're gonna be based in Green.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Bay not Milwaukee, correct, correct? Yeah, so I will live
in Green Bay.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Already got my apartment, so I'm about ten to fifteen
minutes away from Landbow, so I have a quick commute
to you say, work every day and yeah, pretty much
a lot of the day to day operations.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
I'll be over at you know, the training camp facilities,
the game day fields, so I'll just I'll be over
there pretty much every day. And yeah, it'll be pretty cool.
I'm excited.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Okay, you grew up as a witch NFL team.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Fan, Titans Titans.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Okay, well they haven't been around forever, but but that's awesome. Yeah.
Of course you're from western Kentucky, is.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
That right, that's right, Yeah, Meulenberg County, So that was
pretty much the main team that came on TV down there.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
So I grew up watching the you know, Steve McNair,
Eddie Joe, I got, you know, all of those guys.
So that was kind of the team that drew me
to the being a football fan.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Yeah, there's I mean, it's the biggest game. It's so magnificent.
I know, soccer is number one in the world, but
here in America, the NFL just just dominates, and it's
just it's it's gonna be so fun to be part
of that energy.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
So it is so and it was like it was
a bucket list item too. I'm sorry to cut you off.
It was a bucket list item for me to say.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
At some point in my career, I was able to,
you know, cover pro sports and definitely the NFL, and
you know, it's pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
The first assignment will be the Packers.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yeah, well, I mean will you because you work for
the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Is that right?

Speaker 2 (04:41):
That's correct?

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Yes, So they give you access, so you're gonna be
able to get in and be there for the like
media days and all that and ask questions of Jordan
Love and the coaches and you know, Guda Kunston, the
g and the management all that stuff.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Yes, I'll be in the thick of it. So I'll
be in the locker roo room and just yeah, wherever.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
I can be.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
So it's kind of funny being down there here and
everybody up north and there, you know, their accents.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
I'm like, I don't know if they're ready for a
country boy from but because someone was.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
Like, hey, you gotta lock for your door yet, and
I was like, excuse me, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
You know, so it's gonna clash for sure. Excuse me, Rock,
I'm from County.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
What are you gonna say to Jai Air Alexander.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Five?

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Two?

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Hey welcome? Hey, I know the lay of the land.
What was your favorite chicken place where you indies and
chicken kings.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
He'll answers for it. He'll be delighted to know he's
got a country boy from ula Merton County. And and
so what does this mean, Dominic? Do you you have
to post so many things like videos and all you
said multi media? So what does all that mean?

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Yeah, so I guess one thing that made me comfortable
with the job. It's a lot of what I did
at the Courrier journals.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
So I'll be working on video projects and I'll be
you know, going into some analysis, not just here's a
highlight and here's what the coach had to say.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
It's more of diving.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Deep into, you know, why they won or why they lost,
maybe jumping into some quarterback play or the receivers, the defense,
just you say, the world will be my oyster. So
that kind of been triaguing me, and I'm excited about that,
just to be able to go a little bit beyond
the game too and find some fun things. Who knows,
maybe I might attempt to lamboat lead or something. I

(06:37):
don't know.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
So I'm gonna find anything that I'm curious about.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
Doing They're giving me a lot of freedom to do that,
which is something that also interested me in the job.
So yeah, whatever I can come up with some random day,
I'm gonna jump on that.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
It's fantastic. One of the things that I think you're
gonna find amazing, because I have been to like five
or six games over the years, is the smell of tailgating.
It's unbelievable up there.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Oh man, I can only imagine. And that's the thing
I've done.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
You know, I've been able to go to like the
Titans games and things like that. But again, as we
just mentioned the Packers, it's it's a different level.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
It's one of the all time great brands in you know,
the NFL.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
So I'm interested in seeing that it is you know,
no offense any Cowboys people, but it is also one
of America's teams with the.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Fans you know, owning the share of it.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
You know, they were like they just had training camp
at Lamdbau when they like sold it out.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
They had like seventy thousand there.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Just for you know, we're talking about practice, right, So
to see that is really cool, and there'll be.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
A lot of interest in what I have to say.
And just pretty much being working in the opportunity.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
To work with a great team people with more than
thirty plus years of covering the Packers, so they'll be
able to give me all the ins and outs and
some of the cool neat things.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
About just the team and the stadium.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
So I guess more than anything, at least I'll have
someone to let me know where the bathroom is, right.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
But I mean, yeah, the family, you know, that's that's
something like in someone's will in Wisconsin when they die,
nobody cares about the money, who's getting the tickets, you know,
It's one of those things that they passed those down
through those generations.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Yeah, so I'm excited about that and I think, you know,
obviously being here in Kentucky, I was fortunate to have
you know, people that cared what was going on with
U of L and UK and you know they had
eyes on that as well. And so now just it's
gonna be you know, one step bigger because not everyone
knows about football, but a lot of people are familiar

(08:40):
with just the brand, you can say, the green and.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Yellow of the Packers.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
So it'll be interesting to see what that new reach
will be like. Just announcing I already had a lot
of people reaching out on social media and and I
guess looking me up.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
I guess they were doing background checks on me to
make sure.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
I didn't have like any bears gear on or something
as a child, looking a baby something.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
So hopefully I passed everything.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
Okay, I'm sure you had. You will, And it's just
it's a unique experience. Like you already said, you know
how Louisville is our pro team in this city and
Green Bay. I mean that's just people live and breathe
that really throughout the whole state. And you know the
Milwaukee Bucks, that's one thing. They're great, and you know

(09:25):
the you know, the Brewers and whatever else that you
would cover, but there's something about the Packers that just
it just people live and die on what's happening with
these guys each move and so it's an inescapable topic
in Wisconsin. I just think you're gonna love it.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
It's true.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
And it's fascinating you say that because during the interview process,
you know, I was talking about different things like maybe
I could try this, maybe I could try that, Maybe
I could go to Milwaukee for the Bugs or the Brewers,
or maybe a Wisconsin Badger game and all that. They said, yeah,
you can do that when you have free time, but
then bread and Butter's the Packers, and I said, I
understand that. So maybe during some dead time, maybe you know,

(10:04):
after the draft and the combine and things of that nature,
I'll be able to go down to Milwaukee and check
in with the Bucks and see Giannis and all of
those cool guys.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
So that'll also be a cool opportunity.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
But other than that, Yeah, as you saw in the title,
it's Cactor's multimedia reporter and nothing else.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
So that's that's gonna be step number one. So I'll
have to get up to.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
Speed with the roster and just everyone there, and it's fun.
I'm interested in looking forward to a new challenge. I
think that was a big thing that I was looking
forward to doing, and even stepping out of my comfort
zone a little bit while I'm still young in my
career and just kind of see, you know, maybe I
can do this on a little bit of a bigger stage.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
Well, you did that whole series on your own body
changes and watching what you eat and all those other things. Dude,
once you go to a tailgate at a Packers game,
all bets are off. Wait, do you see what they're offering?

Speaker 2 (10:56):
I mean, yeah, keep me in your thoughts and prayers,
I mean and rot words.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
I'm gonna have to run like ten miles a day
before I go anywhere, because yeah, I don't think I'm
in trouble.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
But yeah, let's just hold not.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Dominic Yates, it's great talking to you. Best of luck
at this job. Let's stay in touch because occasionally I
like to hear your voice just to just to see
what's up up there in Wisconsin.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
Thank you, Terry.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
I always appreciated our friendship and I was always a fan,
So thank you for everything.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
And yeah, I'll definitely be talking with you.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
You're always a member of this broadcast team. A friend
than you. Happy travels, Go pack Go. You'll learn to
say that soon enough. Thanks Dominic. There's dominiqu Yates. He's
headed up to work for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, but
only focus on the Packers. Oh my god, there is
a heaven on earth and it's his job.
