Speaker 1 (00:00):
I like when one of my broadcast brothers decides to
come on the air with me because we can talk
about being DJs and radio personalities. John Ramsey, it's good
to see you.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Good to see you, Terry. You know you say when
he decides to come, No, you let me come, Terry?
Can I come on the show?
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Yeah? Come on?
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Was the door unlocked or not?
Speaker 3 (00:18):
It was welcome wagon the whole nine yards.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
We need those big turkey legs like they give guys
after football games on Thanksgiving.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Welcome to my big Fred Flintstone legs. I know, the
one you're talking about.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
How many years did you do morning radio?
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Old twenty some odd and then TV? I'm I like you.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
I had a long run, Terry, and I got to
leave on my terms, which was nice.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Yeah. Way. But with that being said, do I miss
some of it?
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Yes, you know the creativity side, as are you you're
you're the King Daddy, But I mean the creative side.
I miss a little bit of that. But I help
out Metro TV. That's a small part of my job
kind of keeps my ad.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Yeah, you work for the city now, but that getting
up in the morning for morning radio.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
You remember, that's a beat down because yeah, because you
can't walk in and and you know, drink coffee for
an hour.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
You have to be awake. You have to have read
the news. You remember, how long did you do it?
Speaker 1 (01:11):
I did eight years? But I would drive to work
and listen to this station fun out what happened in
the news. Because you're smart, you had the short cut
and then you jump on it and I'm ready to go. Now,
I think you know.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
What we did it And there's some of it that
that was.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
I mean that that drive time and the creativity and
being live, that adrenaline rush. You can't beat it, and
the creativity back then. We did bits we did. We
all did that.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Did you get hammered by bosses? You know? Uh, you know,
program director or general manager?
Speaker 3 (01:43):
So you can't say that on my station exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
And you know that's why I admire people like yourself
and Howard Stern who just you know, is put down
the gauntlet and said, look, I'm doing it my way,
or you can get rid of me and I but
there did hit a point when you have kids you go,
you know, maybe I got it a run from the.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Growing up your own is part of that too.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Oh you're exactly right.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
There were times when I was so combative I to
fired me, you know, because I'd go in with a
program director and I go, you better shut up if
I get that today, go see you there's the door.
I mean, I was that much of an idiot. But yeah,
you learn, you grow up and you go.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
You know what I mean, You're a.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Huge radio You were already on stage doing comedy.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Yeah, yeah, doing comedy, and I was filling in for
a remember at the old LRS. Lisa Lions was with
Rocky in the morning, and I would come in and
fill in when I was doing comedy when I was
in town, and she goes, uh, and they go, hey, you,
you and Rocky got a good little chemistry.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Would you be interested in the job.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
And of course there were a lot of people out there, terry,
a lot more funny than I am, that weren't making it.
And I'm going and I don't like that lifestyle because
you're up all night, work at night. And I was
just I was just traveling a little bit. I wasn't
but I saw a lot of comics just not making
I thought, you, oh, I can stay home and do this,
and yeah, you know, Louisa Henson.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
I worked for her.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Oh I love her. That comedy on the road thing,
that's a miserable existence. Greyhound bus to the next town,
and you're just like, will two people show up?
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Who knows what's going exactly?
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Will the two people that are there throw beer bottles
at me?
Speaker 3 (03:08):
I don't know. And I've had that. I've had that.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
You know, when you have that, you know you have
those comedy nights like Tumbleweed, no One's left. Those are
tough nights. I was a feature act. I wasn't an opener.
I was the middle act and you had to do
about forty five minutes and then of course the headliner
comes in and does it anywhere from now to an.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Hour and a half, depending on how he's doing. But yeah,
that was gave that up.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
That's good for you and Jill and your sons, and
you gave them more stable home. I mean, I feel
for it. You know, you and I both met a
million comedians and they're all a little nuts.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
You got that right now, they are, And I mean,
and the you know what it is, it's a very
addictive personalities. Like I knew a guy best stand up
I've ever seen, Lenny Clark, out of Boston best stand
up by far wasn't even close. And he's still kind
of a legend. You see a lot of TV shows.
But anyway, long story shorts, I'd seem sometimes he'd be
into fitness and he'd be tan and fit, viteamins and everything,
and then I'd seen the next time he's doing every
drug but Lesa, and he's at the bar throwing dollars
(04:01):
at the bartender, just messed up.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
You know, he's all in on everything.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
But but do you ever have do you ever have
second thoughts though Terry about like I do wish in
my prime? Do you ever think about this? Because you
could have done it? You've got a great comedic mind.
Trisecond City. Should I have gone to Shchongan just a
audition because they go for guys who do a lot
of voices and stuff like that. And I thought, man,
but I didn't have the confidence. I just didn't have
them the juice.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
I I wanted to be in my hometown. I I've
had offers in other cities, you know, long ago, Atlanta
and Phoenix and Seattle, Boston. I had a lot of people, Hey,
you want to do the afternoon.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
I went to Kansas City for a short time, and
I had a couple offers about that. Yeah, I went.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
I was there for a year and a half, two
years after my not compete was overcame back. But anyway,
long story short, I love Losville. Always say you know this,
it's a kind of a dad joke that Louisville is
a great place to raise adults.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
And I believe I love the city, So you're right.
I'm glad it worked out for me. I don't have
any regrets. I just thought I wish I'd have given
it a shot.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
But you know, you've been brilliant radio TV work over
all these years, and I know that you're working with
our administration now. The mayor, Craig Greenberg's has been phenomenal,
Rachel's phenomenal. They're a great family to lead us.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
You are exactly right, Teary, You and I in the
same patrio. That guy works his tail off. He wants
this city safe. I've seen him get in Judge's grills
about hey, you can't let people out of have guns.
Rachel the perfect first lady. I am a fan, and
not just because I worked for him, but I've watched
him work. There's days at a time when I'm hanging
with him, I go, how do you do this?
Speaker 1 (05:28):
So he's talked to judges about hey, hey, let's let's yes.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
We can't let him.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Yeah, we have got to have you know, more strict.
You can't just put him in for a day or two.
If they've got a gun on him, lock him up
for a while. You know, he wants it very tight.
It's like, and I get it, you know, because he
can show, he can prove Hey, these are repeat offenders.
Look at this, and they had a guns. One they
didn't find him, but they you know, if they've got
a gun on him, there's a reason.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
I don't know when I've ever heard about a mayor,
you know, having a chau judge.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
I'm telling you this guy, you know, people talk about safety,
and he wants it as bad as you do and
as bad as I do.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
He's passionate about it. He loves the city.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
And I've seen you and regardless of party, because I
don't consider him a Democrat or republic I just think
he's a passionate person who wants the best for the
city and is willing to work hard for it. And
we agree. So you know, I'm not gonna go.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
I'm glad, You're glad you're on the team. I know
that newlu is going to have this bourbon brunch and
bluegrass and it's going on as Bourbon and beyond and
Louder than life are in town. So what is it
this Saturday end? Next Saturday, tell me about.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
It exactly this Saturday the thirteenth. So, yeah, it starts
at eleven in New lou It's in partnership with Danny
Wimmer Presents and Louisville Tourism and all the sponsors you
see there, Delta Dental, Kroger, you see some others there. Yeah,
Stockyards Bank, thank you very much. But anyway, long story
short is we'll have bluegrass bands courtesy of Louisle Tourism
because they're pushing that low grass. You know, we're the
home court grass. And then we've got a tark that
(06:47):
runs all the way from all the hotels, free circles.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
We have contest.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
We're giving away tickets to the shows courtesy of Danny
Wimer Presents. All the bars and restaurants have specials going on.
It's a good times eleven to three, approximately eleven to two,
eleven to three right in there in the morning.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
So there's music in Nulu. In addition, obviously because Bourbon
Beyond and.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Two stages, yes, sir, two blue grass stages.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
We wanted to give them a you know, the mayor said, hey,
let's give them a flavor of Louisville. That's not just
the Kentucky far and Exposition Center. As nice as that is,
I mean, they made it really, really beautiful. But with
that being said, show them something cool, and Nulus is cool.
So they get down there and they hear blue grass
in the streets, and they see barrel racing contests and
all that, and it gives a little Kentucky vibe to it.
We have two live stages going on, so it's it's
a happening thing.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
I hope to come.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
So we're allowed to have a bourbon on our hand, Yes, sir, okay,
that's making sure.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
I think that's anywhere.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
It's supposed to be.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
You offered me one onen. I came in the door to.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Shopping food and cocktail specials throughout Nulu before you know,
Bourbon and Beyond and Louder than Life. I love that.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
I've got corn bread hemp out there. Terry. Have you
ever had those THHC drinks.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
No, I've heard about them. I know it's a big deal.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Yeah, it's it's it's different. It's nice. Man, it's such a.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
I still drink weak beer. It's just beer water.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
Oh meet me.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
I don't. I don't branch out too much, but I
need to try that sometime. I hear about.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
That's good.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
And then we've got also a rabbit Hole distilleries out
there with their bourbon. They're gonna be tasty, I mean everything.
There'll be a lot going on. I'd love to have
you out there, Terry.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
Someone gave me a tropical drink in a restaurant the
other night, and I had two SIPs and I went
to sleep on the bar. I'm a bit of a
wimp when it comes.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
Oh, I don't believe that. I don't believe that I can.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
I have to admit I can drink beer with the
best of them, but doesn't look good on a resume.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
What do you do well? Drink beer?
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Check show him the door. Newlu Bourbon brunch and bluegrass
this Saturday, the thirteenth, and then again next Saturday. It's
sort of like a pre yeah, pre game, yeah, pre
gaming for a bourbon and louder than likee.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Yeah, because a lot of folks don't want to be
out there all night. I mean, don't get me wrong,
the acts are certainly worthy of it. I love Danny
Womer Presents, Door Sims.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
She's fabulous. Every it's just yeah, it's it's a long day.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
So get on the free shuttle and the shuttle takes
your what all around down?
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Yeah, it takes you downtown and back to the Kentucky
Farrenex Magican Center.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
So it's free, so you can do the whole deal.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
Do the whole don't have to dry? Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Can I call you Deputy Mayor Ramsey?
Speaker 2 (09:14):
He probably wouldn't like that. I'm not a deputy mayor.
I'm a director. I'm proud of that. I'm like ten
steps down.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
There is ladies and gentlemen, John Ramsey calling him, Deputy Mayor.
It's good to have you back on the air. Thank you, sir.
And the boss just said, my ear, he needs you
to fill in for me when I go into.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
