Speaker 1 (00:00):
I have some new best friends in the studio with me.
Oh my goodness, Christy, fetch, how are you. I'm doing.
It's great to have you here in jewels to Sarah. Hey, Terry,
does it say jewels on your birth certificate?
Speaker 2 (00:11):
It does not. I'll bet it says Julie. It says Julie.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Is Julia, July Julian. Okay, it's all good. The two
of you are here with good news because I know
that you change lives.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
I love it. The gift of adoption. Tell me about
a jewels. Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Thank you so much for having us and letting us
share the story of the gift of adoption. Christy and
I are both on the board of the Kentucky Chapter
and we raise funds to provide grants to families in
the state of Kentucky so that they can be united
with their forever children. And we provide grants up to
fifteen thousand dollars because it can be so cost prohibitive
(00:51):
to adopt a child, and there are so many children.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
So that's the whole thing. This is a safety net
to help people be able to financially afford the gift
of becoming parents of a child that needs a home.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Absolutely, Christy.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
I saw some numbers too from twenty twenty four, like
four hundred and fifty three thousand dollars raise you guys
are doing good work.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
Absolutely, So yeah, that's our national number. The Kentucky chapter.
We look to provide about twenty two to twenty four
grants a year. And actually I am a former grant recipient,
adoptive mom turned board member, so this is very close
to my heart.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
I love the little sweet faces on the websites of
these little kids and they just the joy in their faces. Absolutely,
something great is happening to them and there's just nothing
like it to be to go into and embrace and
realize I'm safe.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Yeah, I mean, it really is to unite these children
with forever families. And we read through applications of families
who you know, can't have their own children, whether it's
from a biological perspective of some of that children that
have passed away, and they are writing for help because
they have a deep feeling in their heart that they
(02:09):
want a family and they want to help a child
be successful and have love. Children who aren't adopted face
very tough life circumstances. So we really prioritize kids that
are ready to go into foster care. We also prioritize
children with medical needs, and we also try really hard
to keep siblings together. So those are some of the
(02:33):
things that we look at when we're considering offering these grants.
But we have a funding need, so we need about
one hundred and twenty thousand dollars this year. The average
grant is five thousand dollars, So we are all volunteer board.
We work tirelessly to try to raise funds so that
(02:53):
we can say yes to every one of those twenty
four families that is ready to adopt.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Their talk about your event, gallup for a gift for
the gift a little bit later, but I don't want
to hear about your experience.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
So absolutely yeah. More tell you, Mara that this is
something I love sharing. So we have my husband and
I we have a son that's a biological son, and
when he was three years old, we said it's on
our hearts to adopt, and we shared the story with
him very early on and we entered the adoption process.
Little did we know that it was going to take
(03:27):
three years to be united with our with our new son,
and we didn't know what was going to take upwards
of forty five thousand dollars, right, So we did fundraising.
We did we had yard sales, and then we applied
for grants all over the country and actually just upon
a Google search found Gift of Adoption and on a whim,
(03:49):
said yeah, let's let's submit for that. And so we
were thankful to receive some financial support to help us
bring our son Everett home. And he's a away, he's
two almost three now, and it's really it's just impacted
our lives because yes, I'm an adoptive mom, but others
who donate to Gift of Adoption, they are making a
(04:12):
generational change and a generational impact by bringing those funds,
and so I think that that's important. You don't have
to adopt a child to make an impact.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
And I'm so good.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
So we actually we.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
Came to at a Gift of Adoption event as the
guest speaker, as the grand family recipients. We you know,
our little family of four came and spoke and shared
our journey and then I just saw the passion in
the room and I said, I really want to be
part of it. I want to give back for our
financial assistance, and I want to be part of this mission,
and so I've turned board member now.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
So happy for Everett.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
I mean, that's yeah, he's a handful.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
His the whole life is remapped into a better situation
and good. That's that's what this is like. This is
the Miracles on Earth, all right. So we have a
gallop for the Gift coming up next Wednesday. Who's going
to tell me about it?
Speaker 3 (05:02):
I can tell you about it, Terry. It's at the
Olmstead on the seventeenth and the doors open at five
point thirty. It's bigger and better than ever this year,
this is our sixth annual. This year we're going to
have an open bar. We're going to have a string
trio planing to entertain. We have a great keynote speaker.
Her name is Ronda Richins and she's actually from Lagrange, Kentucky.
(05:25):
She is a passionate advocate for adoption. She has two
adopted Down syndrome children. She also lost to biological down
syndrome children, so then she ended up adopting the two
more and she has two biological daughters. And they kind
of initiated this whole be kind campaign which made Lagrange, Kentucky,
(05:49):
the bee kind capital of the state. They started noticing
that kids weren't being kind to their siblings, so they
painted these signs and they sold them the money that
they would donate to nonprofits. So Ronda is going to
come with her family and she's going to tell us
about that journey.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
And that's a I love the story, all right.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
It's at the Olmstead on Wednesday, September seventeen, five thirty
to nine. We're tickets available.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
You can get them online at Gift of Adoption dot

can buy tickets there. You can sponsor. We've got some
great sponsors that this wouldn't be possible without them. Air
Hydro Power is a very big donor for us. We
also have on Point Warranty is a big sponsor. We
(06:40):
also have Kentucky's Credit Unions and Kentucky's Credit Unions has
donated tickets to the U of L Cow game on
November eighth in the Brown Williamson Room, and we have
paired that it's in our auction. We paired it with
a bottle of Mister and Missus Louisville Gold nil bourbon.
Oh cool, you can have some bourbon and really enjoy
the game even that.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Ross Smith's yeah, that's right.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Good for him. I happen to be playing linebacker in
that game. I'm looking forward to.
Speaker 4 (07:07):

That's where you'll get information on the event. Congratulations. So
I heard you're getting some sort of citation and not
a speed ticket.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
No, well, I don't like to talk about those. No,
we are have a proclamation that Mayor Greenberg is making
September seventeenth Gift of Adoption Kentucky Day. So we're going
to have the Deputy Mayor.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
James David James.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
David James there to present the proclamation and so we're
really excited about that.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
That well, congratulations, Christy. I love your story.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Thank you. And we have one other exciting piece to share.
We have an anonymous donor that will do a thirty
thousand dollars match, So up to thirty thousand dollars of
what we raise will be directly matched, which is an
awesome opportunity for us.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
I don't know who this anonymous person is, but I
wish they live next door to me, yeah right, go
with pizza left you want some?
Speaker 4 (08:02):
