You're a news radio eight forty whas Terry miners here. Well,
(00:03):
I'll be off on Monday, June second. That's the day
Joe Elliott's going to fill in for me. I like
when I jump out to these various days where I
know in my next off day ass technically I won't
be here Monday either Memorial Day, but Monday June second.
The down center of Louisville. Folks have invited me to
a golf tournament at Automan Country Club, which is in
my growing up neighborhood, as is the same neighborhood for
(00:26):
one Susan Thomas Deaver who's in the studio with me
right now. Good to see you, buddy, you chee. We
went to grade school together, elementary school, Yes, we do.
Saint Stephen Mura And did you ever go over to
Automan Country Club when you were there? It takes stevens
no just go over there. And I don't know. Did
you caddy? Did you do an it was you? Or
pick up golf balls?
Speaker 2 (00:47):
That was a girl.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
They wouldn't let the girls do that.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
They let me caddy every now and then until I
would walk or ride a cart across a green or
something like that. You know, you're not really cut out
for this, buddy, But that's a beautiful club it is,
and now I know my manners when I'm there. I
see you brought your son Drew with you today. Drew
got to see you. Hey, eys, great to see you.
Also in the studio with us is a new executive
(01:12):
director for down CENTERUM of Louisville. It isn't here. Let
me reach across the shake hands, Taylor Ingram there. I'm
reaching across the shake hands like we just met for
the first time. Good to meet you, Taylor. Thank you absolutely,
it's good to have you here. And congratulations on your
new assignment. You're new at it, yes, second weekend. Also
Tim Curtis is here today. It's good to see you.
(01:33):
You're a development guy for down Center of Louisville. Here
the development director for DSL. It's a great place to work,
most excellent, outstanding, buddy. Well tell me how many people
are served by down Center of Louisville. Whichever one of
you wants to take that.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Sure. So we have over thirteen hundred members within our
thirty two county service area and we provide just over
two hundred or two hundred individuals come into are a
location each week.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
It's fantastic and it's obviously it's part of development. Susan,
you're a mom of someone that uses the services, tell
me what they do.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
For you actually from birth to death. Basically they have
services that they provide. But like Drew is on, to
get out of school, there's really not a lot for
them to do, but DSL provides them with life. Well,
it's a lifelong learning center, so they help them. They
help them with their reading, their math, theol schoolistic but
(02:35):
also they take them out in the community and get
them the inclusion.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Part of it.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
So it's just they do a lot and they have
a lot of activities for them, so they're constantly learning.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Yeah, and Taylor, some people have jobs and we kind
of work them into the community, right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Absolutely. You know, we've got a career solutions team that
works on finding career opportunities for individuals who are interested
in working, and then they can help support them throughout
that experience if they need any additional training or if
there's parts of the job where they need a little
additional support.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
And of course I'm familiar with the Group down Center
of Louisville because of the Crusader Children. I've had a
good lesson in all the great services you do, Tim,
How do you raise money to run this beautiful organization?
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Well, one way, Terry, is the golf tournament you're coming
to here in a few weeks at Autumn Country Club.
It's our thirty third annual pro celebrity golf tournament. I
believe it was started when Drew was born, so it's
the same amount of years that Drew's age thirty three.
Joe and Susan and Drew have been a part of
that since the word goes.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
So that's one way you do it. You come out
there and swing a golf club Drew sometimes, Yeah, what
about putting? Are you good at putting? Bocks Mine comes
and ghost bro. That's how that goes. So we're doing
this at Autumn Country Club. Are my childhood neighborho and
(03:58):
I'm very excited about that. So Susan June second and
Autumn's just a phenomenal facility. Love that is there room
for more people to get in.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
We actually are all full on teams, Terry. But there's
other ways to support us. You can still sponsor a
hole at DSL golf dot org. Is an opportunity for
sponsoring holes and raffle tickets are Available've got some great
raffle items at dsl wind dot com. You can check
that out. We have fourteen raffle items. We've got a
bottle Rifan Winkle.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
I saw that old Rip Van Winkle ten year.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
That's kind of one of those mysterious bottles where people like,
oh well, this could be worth millions of dollars.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
We also have a pair of signed jockeypants that Brian
Hernandez were this year and I'm going to pick those
up at Churchill Downs after I leave here.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
From Outstanding. He won the Derby last year, didn't he? He did?
Speaker 4 (04:42):
He won the Derby and the Oaks and he was
wearing our logo on his leg last year and the
Oaks when he won. He's wearing our logo in these pants.
We're raffling off again this year.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
AirPods apple iPad, Morton's Steakhouse, Costco gift card. That's all
good stuff. What's split the pot.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
Well, it's sort of like a split the pot they
might do at a football game where we collect the money
then half of it goes back out to the winter
and we keep the other.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Oh that's nice, So people just donate to that. Well,
that's pretty phenomenal, all right. So where do people go
so they can they can bid on some of these items.

just want to make sure we give you a shout
out for that, and you're being recognized that night at
our event.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Well, I'm very touched by that. When I when I
first heard about this last fall, didn't you email or
send me a letter or something last week to each

are you doing next June? I don't know. I hope
I'm alive. I think it's.
Speaker 4 (06:21):

had Eric Wood last year one time, Pat Day and
Muhammad Ali and we're just grateful for everything you've done
for the community and glad to have you out with us.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Well, I'm excited about that. Some of my families in
from Florida. They're going to play golf too. They're excited
about that. So we're happy to spend the day with
the June second at Autumn Country Club and Taylor tell
me more about how people can help down Center of
Louisville in general.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Absolutely so. We do have ongoing volunteer opportunities if people
are looking to come in and get to know our
members and engage with us more directly. We have other
events throughout the year. Later this fall, we'll have a walk.
We'd love to have you come out to the waterfront
and take a stroll with us and learn a little
bit more. And then each spring we have our annual
Gallup Gala, so lots of great events to come out
(07:12):
and meet us with and then there's ongoing raffle opportunities
throughout the year. So it's definitely worth keeping an eye
out on our website. We're very active on social media.
The members are out every single day doing something fun.
Last night was practice for Shrek the musical.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Oh nice.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Absolutely, so staying engaged with us on social is a
great way to see what's going on and figuring out
where you might be able to fit in with us.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
Fantastic And of course as parents, we all worry about
our kids, and so that's what down Center of Louisville
does is it gives peace of mind to moms and
dads too, knowing you're there support you know, support net
offering services for their kids after we're going too. So
it's just a valuable asset in the community. Good work, Susan.
