Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know, it's not every day you walk into your
studio to start your job and the mayor of the
city is waiting for you and he's not bearing a subpoena.
This is good. It's a good start to the day.
Hello mister Mayor.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Hello Terry, how are you?
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Great to see you and Rachel at the Light up
Louisville on Saturday. It was great. It was wonderful.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
We had thousands of people from around the city that
enjoyed the lots of light parade. We lit up the city.
We had a great video mapping show on Metro Hall.
You saw the fireworks. It's getting bigger and better every year.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Who makes the request for the tree? I mean, how
does that work?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
We actually have someone in Louisville that donates the tree
every year. It's a different person. So we put out
a request. This year we had a family that was
willing to donate their tree. And it's beautiful, looks great.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
I think that's fantastic, But it's really a noble gesture
for someone who's used to like shade or whatever it
is the tree provides.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
It's probably someone who had raccoons getting into their rooms.
Maybe something must get rid of their large tree.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
That's a lovely tree, and then we keep it lit
until in January sometimes.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Right, it's a wonderful tradition.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Yeah, Genie kind of handles all that for us. Now
we do that well.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Lgenie is the one of the primary sponsors. But our
folks at a part of the Louisville Metro government team
do all the work to get the lights.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Up and everything.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
That's fantastic.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Yes, it's wonderful.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
You have a good team there. I mean, everything was
so well organized the other night, everybody in and out
having a good time.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
It was a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Good well, you know, Terry, I know that I just
jumped in here unannounced. Miles and I are going to
talk about all kinds of air well, but I don't
want to take too much of Paul's time. But I
did want to come because it's a very special day
or time it is.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Here, We've got Terry Miners, who has celebrated with this
city national championships, you have m seed wonderful parades like
light Up Louisville and many others. You have been the
face of our city for so many years, you know,
But today I wanted to celebrate with you, even though
we've already had two giant economic development announcements. Already we
(01:53):
announced the new glove manufacturing facility coming to Louisville. I
was just with the governor. We have a new AI
company that's two hundred new jobs in Louisville. However, none
of that can compete with forty years at who forty
whas I appreciate, it cannot compete. And I wanted to
come say congratulations and declare to not just your listeners,
(02:15):
but the entire city that today is officially Terry Miner's day.
And what about that? So I wanted to come here personally.
And this is a pure in honor of our president.
This is true twenty four carried gold frame of course Terry.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Oh my goodness, mister mayor, that is that is magnificent.
Thank you. My name is actually almost certificate. It is
my day in the city today.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
You know, to do.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Forty years of anything in this day and age is
unheard of. It's unprecedent in your industry in particular, it's
incredibly impressive.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
And so this is You're.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
A wonderful person of you most wonderful radio personality. But
more than that, you're wonderful. All right, this is going
other and I wanted to celebrate.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
It's so nice. We appreciate you and your family. You've
been so kind to us over all these years. I've
known you long before you were mayor, and you have
a terrific family. But that's so nice. What should I
take down off the mantle that Heisman trophy or something
one of my kids. Let's see who's the least favorite this.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Week, hard at work. There's a lot going on in
the city. So I'll let you guys get back to it.
Just wanted to say, congratulates, appreciate it, Amyer. Congratulations on
the economic news. That's always good coming in. It's twenty
twenty six shaping. I know that you're always months ahead
in scheduling it is. We have one more really big
announcement tomorrow, and then we're hard at work on things
(03:37):
that will come to fruition in twenty twenty six.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Paul, you're closer. Tickle him till we get it out
of it.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
I got a feeling I'll be seeing Paul tomorrow morning.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Isn't this fun though? To have things back in when
we were all just like coughing and wheezing five years ago,
and like what's going to happen and things are coming
back to life.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
They are.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
It's the result of you know, years of hard work
of a life lot of people, whether it's our public
safety numbers improving and crime decreasing, or whether it's getting
big job wins like this. You know, something that the
governor just reminded everyone of it at this last announcement
is across the country, there are a lot of states
that are in recession. There are a lot of states
that aren't growing. In Kentucky, we're still growing right now.
(04:17):
We are bucking the national trends, and we feel compelled
to continue to work.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
To do that.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Yeah, the unemployment numbers are great, and so obviously there's
plenty more jobs to fill. So you're working on all that.
Thank you, Mayor, Thanks Terry, congratulations. I really appreciate this.
This is very nice. I'm gonna put this on as
a hood ornament on my drive home.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
All right, take care, guys.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Thanks Mayor, appreciates you. That's Louisville's mayor, Craig Greenberg in studio.
Just really appreciate him doing that just off the cuff.
Very nice, mister Miles, Happy birthday.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
To you.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Was that last week?
Speaker 5 (04:51):
Last week?
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Thank you?
Speaker 1 (04:52):
But you took a few days off work birthday miles.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Thank you.
Speaker 5 (04:56):
Yeah, I had take care of some appointments, so I
took a few days off.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
You mean like, go get a go see the doctor
and make sure you're not going to die anything.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
Yeah, I don't care. And I came back with a cold,
a head cold. How about that.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
I went, I did my annual. You don't have to
do it for her insurance anyway, so else they charge
at thirty five dollars more of the right or whatever
it is. And she's pretty good with me today. You
know what, Wung's good heart. You're not going to die
in the next twenty minutes.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
I'm like, oh right, But they will find something wrong
with you. I always do.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
They took blood, I got shots. I'm all filled with
who knows whatever. So if I start talking out of
my head today, Austin, let me know.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Okay, I'll keep you in check.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Yeah, she said something about you need a you haven't
had a uh tetanus shot, dip, theory of whooping cough.
It's all a big comba. I'm like, what this shot?
Speaker 3 (05:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (05:46):
I probably well, I was twenty five.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Stay away from anything rusty. How about that?
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Right? Well, anyway, I guess I can get my finger
cut with something rusty today because I just got juiced
for that one. And then you know, they do all
that stuff, they take all your numbers to that and
then they pull a little blood. And I was talking
to the lady that pulls blood, and she said, you'd
be surprised, I said, I said, I really don't like looking,
you know, I just I would rather not just look,
(06:11):
so I just look over here and just we're talking
away or whatever. She said. The bigger the man, the quicker,
they faint. That is so interesting, she said, you'll see
some big tough guys that you think and they just
oh and then then they start sweating before she even
has to take the blood.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
When I went in for lab work a couple of
weeks ago, the woman had a big sign right in
front of the chair that said turn off your cell phone.
And I said, do you really have problems with people
talking on their cell phones when they're having their blood drawn?
She oh, yeah, all the time. Are not paying attention,
They're moving around talking on the phone.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
It's like, come on, so interesting, seems like kind of
a critical moment.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
It is a big needle going in your arm yet.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
Well, and I said to her, I said, I don't
like to look She said, it doesn't matter. I'm the
one who needs to look like good.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
All right.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
So here we are with several things that have gone
on over the weekend. Obviously, the Louisville Cardinals football team
is headed off to Boca Raton, Florida. Is that kind
of a hoity toydy place? Is that right? I don't
know that I've ever been there.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
It's a little bit north of Miami, right in Miami.
Speaker 5 (07:18):
Yeah, that's is that at the FAU State is the
one that Schnellenberger field.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
He started that football program at that school.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
So it's just just north of Miami.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
And yeah, and then Toledo is pretty good. I understand
our opponent.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Yeah, I think five and eight, five and seven.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Oh they were they only had five wins.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Yeah, wait, it's Louisville kind of got dumped on the
bowls this season.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
Is this like a potato something bowl?
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Beans?
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Beans? And here's the thing, they don't even because someone
tried to clarify it yesterday, they don't They're not even
pouring a bucket of beans over the winning coat coach,
like they do with the Mayo and the Mayo Bowl,
and they got the Pop Tart Bowl. They know the
pop guy. I don't know. It's a great market.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
They love baked beans. I would do that too.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
It's better than mayonnaise.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
Right. I wonder if I could sit in. But they're
just not doing it. It's too messy. Is that the problem?
Speaker 3 (08:18):
Yeah, must be.
Speaker 5 (08:20):
I don't know, how do you sell these sponsors on
these Bowl games, not knowing that if a team's even
going to play.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
Right, So that's where this conversation goes. It's Notre Dame
has said no, thank you, and I was talking to people.
I've been talking a lot of people who've been texting
me about it and asking about it, and the Notre
Dame people are really like, good, this is what we
should do. Why should we give away our presence to ESPN,
(08:51):
who clearly fawns over the Big ten, the games that
they can control, you know, the SEC whatever whatever games
they have on there because they have an SEC network,
on an ACC network, all under that umbrella. And it's like, okay,
so there's there's there's a lot of hurt feelings about it,
(09:13):
but a lot of people who are Notre Dame enthusiasts
or like, that's the way we should do. We shouldn't
give it away the product. But then other people say, well,
wait a minute, what about the other players on the roster.
Why wouldn't they Why wouldn't they want to play one
more game? As a Notre Dame fighting Irish teammate who's
maybe second string, didn't get a lot of time, but
(09:35):
you get a lot of time in the ball.
Speaker 5 (09:36):
And if you're a senior, you know you want to
go out with you know, one more game.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
And yeah, when you ran off the field at the
last game, you didn't know it was your last appearance,
Yeah in a Notre Dame uniform, Like oh okay, So yeah,
there's other issues that come into play. Anyway, people are
going to argue about that as forever. And then you know,
the twelve teams came out. We have the sports bros
coming in on today's show. These are youngsters who of
(10:00):
talking sports are going to be with us just a
wee bit and start chewing on the twelve teams that
are in the bracket. Louisville is one of only four
schools who has beaten two of the twelve teams in
the playoff. Oh really, yeah, we beat Miami and JMU.
(10:21):
Oh that's right, So there you go. So there's only
so many schools who can make that claim that they
beat other teams that are in the top twelve.
Speaker 5 (10:29):
How did JM you get in the show? How did
that happen?
Speaker 1 (10:33):
That's how this works is that was the whole idea
of expanding and giving opportunities outside the power conferences and
getting young. And people are going to JMU and Tulane
are just going to get wasted right out of the box.
And why are they in there.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
Because also of Virginia losing the duke. If Virginia would
they would have taken that spot. Yeah, but the ACC
in football is an embarrassment, So I just slid in.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
So Miami's the only ACC team in and who beat
them again? Oh yes, that's right. We did on their
terms and punched them in the face. Remember that guy
through He was the former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck, and
he threw five picks. One of them didn't count. It
should have counted, but they had a bogus penalty on
that play. He threw five picks in that game. The
(11:23):
Loysville Secondary was brilliant in that ballgame. And so it's like,
and there they are sitting in there, Okay, well whatever,
And Tulane I got friends, dear friends who love Tulane
and they they're Tulane ones of Tuline grad and you know,
they're thrilled to be in there. But a lot of
people are like they shouldn't be, you know, So the
arguing is going to be there, and even if you
expand it to thirty teams, just how that goes. Anyway,
(11:46):
We'll see what happens. The four primary slots of cours
are Texas Tech and Ohio State and Georgia and the Hoosiers.
About that, nobody's lived through a time Most people on
this earth haven't lived through a time When Indiana's won
the national championship in football. That was a long time ago.
Speaker 5 (12:06):
And this is not just a one time deal. They
were in the playoffs last year.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
Right yea, and man, they look good in the Ohio
State game.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
It was like that was they did.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
That was they showed up just like they did against
Oregon earlier in the season. You know, they went out
to Oregon, played a role game and then smacked Oregon
around and people are like, what what is happening? These
Hoosiers are for real, but people still questioned them all
the way through. But to go up against Ohio State, you.
Speaker 5 (12:34):
Know who had the bigger fan base at that game, Well.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
It's got to be Ohio State, even if it's my
gun is huge, just huge. And even though yeah, it
was in the state of Indiana, I mean, the Hoosiers
fans there came up, Joe's going to be on with
us in a little bit and he attended that one
and the basketball.
Speaker 5 (12:51):
Oh did he okay?
Speaker 1 (12:52):
Louis VILLAIU which was a nice bounce back from a
loss last week. The top twenty five pole came out,
by the way today and the U of L fell
from number six to number eleven. They fell five spaces
for losing to Arkansas on the road.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
That's ridiculous.
Speaker 5 (13:06):
But after beating Indiana.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
So who's now out of the top twenty five?
Speaker 1 (13:13):
I think you know the Kentucky Wildcats are mia Top
twenty five got.
Speaker 5 (13:18):
A few votes.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
I uh, I also had a good Sunday. I just
want you to know, go ahead and ask me, guys.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
Would you do this Sunday?
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Would you do this?
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Your Tacker.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
I love Wayne Laravie, the Packers announcer. Packers Bears, that's
always a big deal. It's a big emotional thing. And
the Packers and Bears, a lot of people argue, is
the greatest rivalry in NFL history, if not in all
of sports. Out of people go no, it's Yankees and
Red Sox. But whatever, it's one of the great rivalries
and there's just no love lost. But somehow, I don't
(13:55):
know how the Packers are able to just snatch away
of victory when the Bears looked like they could have it. Now,
the Packers were up seven, and Caleb Williams, the quarterback
for the Bears, throws a pass into the end zone.
There was split coverage. It looked like there was another
Bear who was open, who would have waltzed right into
the end zone. Now would the Bears have gone for two?
(14:16):
Would they have gotten two? And then there only been
ten seconds left for the Green Bay to try to
go down. Who knows. If I were the Bears coach
and you're playing at Green Bay, I would have gone
for two had that touchdown been completed, and then just
go ahead and be up by one and then just
try to, you know, I think I think that the
going for two in football is smart in a lot
(14:37):
of occasions, particularly when it just works out in a
situation where you're in a hostile environment on the road.
But it didn't happen. Kayshawn Nixon made the interception, and
it was just another celebration for Packers fans. And I
know it drives other people crazy that I get into
talking about that, but I just think it's fun. I
think it's a great time. Every time the play each other,
(15:01):
it's pretty exciting. So I have a little audio Christmas
card coming up for Packers fans a little bit later
on in the show. Also an author on Today Miles
is he's a stand up comedian, but he's written a
book about Johnny Carson. His name is Mark Malkoff. He'll
join us the Left for five. He said, I interviewed
(15:21):
four hundred people about Johnny Carson and the Tonight Show
for my new book, Love Johnny Carson. He interviewed four
hundred people. Listen to some of the people he's talked to,
Mel Brooks, Carol Burnett, Doc Severnson, Carl Reiner, Dick Cavitt,
Larry King, Michael J. Fox, Lonnie Anderson, Diane Cannon, Johnny
(15:43):
Carson loved her. She was on all the time.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
Oh yeah she was.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
Yeah, Johnny Carson's crazy about her. Drew Carrey, Jay Leno,
Chevy Chase, Bob Saggott, Yucker Byron Allen Buffett, Sybil Shepherd,
Barry Diller. I mean, all these people, reg just Franklin,
a Jy bro Call, Dana Carvey. I mean, this guy
worked hard on this book. I don't know anybody who's
done this much groundwork for anything.
Speaker 5 (16:08):
Some of those people are dead, aren't they.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Right, So he's been working on this book a long
long time.
Speaker 5 (16:13):
So what is the the premise.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
It's about Johnny just everything, the magic of Johnny Carson,
and why what separates him from all these people we
see on now?
Speaker 3 (16:24):
You know?
Speaker 1 (16:25):
And it is different now, it's just it's all just
so micro. It's micro broadcasting instead of broadcasting, you know,
the shows that appealed to so such a vast majority
of Americans versus everything that's kind of narrowly focused.
Speaker 5 (16:41):
Now, Johnny made people's careers.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
He did. And if you got called over the couch,
oh you knew you've made it. You do your stand
up activis. Come on over and sit down. You're like,
I made it. That's all good?
Speaker 3 (16:54):
All right?
Speaker 1 (16:55):
Then here locally, I know there's a little bit of
news popping around here. Paul will get into throughout the
course of the afternoon. Somebody's dropped out of the race
for the Senate seat, that sort of thing, and what else.
Excuse me, let me move my Terry Miners Day plaque
over here. That's awfully nice of the mayor. You said
(17:18):
a tech company is opening and that is one hundred
and ninety four jobs.
Speaker 5 (17:23):
Be simple whether Yeah, they're coming over. They're coming over
from southern Indiana. They're an AI based company that helps
that helps other companies. They're opening up a new headquarters
off River Road, Okay, and downtown here at the lou
Med District. A company called glove Us is going to
(17:45):
open here with its headquarters here in Looisville.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
Make medical gloves.
Speaker 5 (17:49):
Yeah, premium medical surgical gloves, which apparently are not made
anywhere here in the country, so this will be the first.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
All right, Cooley beans, I love it, love all Okay,
very good, appreciated, Paul Miles. Our opening segment of service
of horse Soldier Bourbon. I'm sure we'll hear from the
Beesman today too, because the Kentucky Wildcats had a long
weekend as well. Anyway, here's my Christmas card to me.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
There is your dagger.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
Thank you packers, Thank you. I appreciate it. The Bears
fans in my life are still just gritting their teeth
just like good get you in two weeks, will you?
Will you don't know back in a few on news radio,
Wait forty whas
