Speaker 1 (00:00):
Right now, though, I want to talk to Missy Ward.
She's one of the innovators highlighted at the Kentucky State
Fair that begins tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Hello Missy, Hello Terry, so.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Good to have you on. I know that you're going
to be at the Innovation Station at the Kentucky State Fair.
What a great name that is. I can't believe it
was already taken.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
I know, yeah, I am going to be there along
with some other local inventors who you know, we just
kind of talked to each other and got in this
little club and I did my thing and they did
their things, and now we have them available for sale
and testing.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
So there's a club of inventors in all of Kentucky
or is it in the Lexington area or what's the deal.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Well, it's the Inventor's Network of Kentucky and it's run
by Don Skaggs and Nicholasville. But people from all over
the world actually join. We have meetings where there's people
from Australia and people from Georgia and people from you know,
all different spaces and you can join. It's very inexpensive
and we work under an NDA, so you know, don't

(01:03):
say anything about what you hear. Ah hah, Yeah, it's
and but the wealth of knowledge. I kind of laugh
and say, well, it's a bunch of old guys with
pocket protectors. But they're so smart. They have patents and
they're smart and they can help you think if you're
stuck on something. And then they do videos. You know,

(01:24):
Don gives out special videos. It just really is encouraging
and help people get over the line of that invention
or what they want to do.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
I watched a video of your invention. I thought that's
kind of brilliant. It's called the Cruiser Easy Leash. Please explain, missy.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Okay, Well, you know I had a bunch of leg
surgeries a few years ago. When I went out to
walk my horse or my dog, I didn't feel steady.
My dog was going to wrap around my legs and
knock me down, or I was going to trip over
the lead rope. And I thought, how do people do this?
Like how do you walk up pet if you feel unsteady?
And then I started looking into it and I realized, oh,

(02:04):
what's a big problem. People are hurt all the time.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Because like a dog, a dog will start moving around
and then it wraps around your legs and then boom
you go down. Yeah, you go down like a tree.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Exactly, and then sometimes people get dragged. The other thing
is that you know the American So I asked my
orthopedic surgeon and he said, oh, i'd absolutely I see
a lot of people that have injuries, and I would
recommend the cruiser lease. So basically, but it does, it doesn't.
It doesn't bend. It's straight, but it also is tapered
and it's thicker at the end where you hold on.

(02:38):
But it allows the dog to move side to side
and kind of arc, but it won't bend. It won't
allow the pet to walk behind you. If the pet
is going to the side, you would have to turn
with it. Right now, the biggest learning curve that I
see is that people think, oh, the dog still wants
to go to the side. It's like, but now you're
in control guide them back.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
Yeah, your video was very helpful because it illustrated just
how well your dog is still free to do his
or her thing. But it just there's no herky jerky
deal that you get surprised and then you get yanked,
get your arm yanked, or get knocked down.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Right, and you know, one of the worst things is
the attractable leash where the dog is too far in
front of you, you can't get to it in time,
somebody else is there. You grab it with your hand
and basically try to cut off your finger or it
wraps around your legs and then it, you know, causes
a big burn. And then the other side of this though,
Terry's what hit me was that pets are so important
for us in our lives. They're good for PTSD and

(03:33):
depression and all kinds of loneliness. And if somebody is
lonely and they have a pet and they walk outside,
they may build community. They may say hi to the neighbor.
They may get invited somewhere some sunshine, you know. So
we need pets in our lives, and I don't want
people who are unsteady to not be able to enjoy
that benefit.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
I miss out. We did that hurt my dog and
I were out earlier. Today we make all kinds of
friends every day. Yeah, all right, where do people find
the cruiser ez leash? Is that on some website somewhere?

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Well, cruiser leash dot com is where you can order them.
But if you're in Kentucky you can skip the payment.
There's a you know, I'm still kind of working things
out because I'm making in my kitchen now, Terry. So
you are on the table, Oh yeah, and Cruiser bab
and I are making them. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Cruiser is k r u z e R who happens
to be one of my radio friends from a long
time ago. How's my boy doing?

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Oh he's great and he adores you. He just you know,
he thinks the world of you and so glad that
we can catch up. But he's doing great. I've made
his life so much more.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
When when he moved to Lexington, I was on we
were on the same radio station and he lived with
me for a week or so until he found wherever
he was going.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
I know, that's so cool. He slept on your couch.
I'm like, oh, you know, Terry Myers.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
So I'm glad he's doing well. All right, So where
people can find what what did you say, Cruiser? Leash
dot com dot com?

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Yes, or we'll be at the innovation station this weekend
and most of next week. And the other thing, Terry
I just want to add, is I think it could
have a real Americans with Disabilities Act work for somebody
like in a wheelchair. How does somebody in a wheelchair
walk a pet?

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Oh good idea. Yeah, that was very thoughtful. So I
like this. Yes, you sent me these other inventors to
these other folks who are going to be featured here
at the Innovation Station bene Gatto and about the balanced
brief there Ryan Montgomery, inventor of ridge Walk. I read that,
and then the guy Aaron farm Farrar who who has

(05:31):
the tarp pulling strap. But you know when you throw
stuff refuse onto a tarp and you're trying to figure
out how you're going to handle it, that's kind of
brilliant too. There's a lot of good ideas here on display.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Yeah. So if somebody wants more info, wants to join
the Kentucky Inventors Network, you can do that very easy.
I think it's like one hundred and fifty to two
hundred dollars for a year. You get private you know,
meetings and things. Come join us and come by Innovation
Station and try out cruisers leash.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
And that's in the south wing near the food court.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Yes, sir, yes, you get to.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
Smell all that good food while you're there. What days
are you there?

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Missy I'll be there hobly Friday afternoon. I'll be there
Saturday and Sunday and then Tuesday, and then next weekend Friday,
Saturday and Sunday.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Is my buddy, my radio buddy, going to be around
with the State Fair at all with you?

Speaker 2 (06:19):
He will, and I think he's planning on like calling
your text and news. You guys can have lunch or something.
Maybe yes, he's coming.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Or bring his golf clubs. That could be.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
Oh, we'd love that too.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Well, Missy, congratulations. I hope this is the first of
a thousand incredible inventions and then you'll be the Thomas
Edison of this century.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Thank you, Terry. I really appreciate your time and talking
with me, and just have a good evening.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Well, go have a great State Fair. Missy. Great talking
to you.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Thanks Terry too.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
That is Missy Ward, inventor of the cruiser easy leash
so that your dog can't wrap the leash all around,
and you'll be able to find it online k r
u z e r S. I spelled cruiser cruiserleash dot
com all right, And they're part of the State Fair.
So I'm going to be hearing from other State Fair
bound folks, as the state Fair comes upon us beginning tomorrow,

(07:14):
of course, at the Kentucky Expost Center. Back in if
