Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's go p r P. Who are we pr P?
Who are we PRP? That's a great example of how
people ought to behave themselves. So congrats Abraham Cruz, Jacob
Cruz and Canive Valdez saving that driver in that car
that went into the river. Good on them. That's what
mayoral proclamations are for all good stuff. All right, we

(00:23):
moved from who are we PRP? Two? The Creek Rises?
The Creek Rises, that's Fern Creek. We've got a couple
members of the Fern Creek Fire Department in with us. Todd,
are you the deputy chief or you the full on chief?
I am the deputy chief. What does that mean exactly?
You get the second parking space next to the door,
the second largest parking space. Absolutely, that's mighty fine. And

(00:46):
then Alex Schultz is the chaplain for Fern Creek. It's
good to have you here as well.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Thank you glad to be here.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
First off, let me tell you, guys, I appreciate all
that you do for the crusade for children. You're one
of the last people come in on the crusade too.
We always like that. It's just such a valuable community asset.
I know today is like Giving Day here in Louisville,
and you know, the Crusade is like the center for

(01:13):
us every year and it's just such a big, beautiful
come together for the whole community that it's just it
makes you feel great about humanity every time you experience that.
So thanks to all of you and all of your
helpers who bring that together every year. Thank you very much.
You're very welcome. How many people help with the crusade?

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Hundreds at our agency got We've got almost two hundred members,
family friends.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
And does Deputy Meed Todd early have to like email
all those people text them all to organize that or
how does that happen?

Speaker 3 (01:46):
As many as we can?

Speaker 1 (01:48):
We sure do. Do people just show up? They say
what can I do?

Speaker 3 (01:51):
We have volunteers that show up and we'll gladly put
them to work.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Well, that's awesome because there's all kinds of jobs to do,
and sure is the crusade' is a heck of an
undertaking if you're new to the area. That's to help
special needs families and it's been going on. This will
be our seventy second Crusade for children the first week
of June at first full weekend in June, which happens
to be seven and eight this year, so it moves,
it rotates all through those early days of This is

(02:15):
the latest the crusade could ever be because the second
days on the eighth see I did my math Ellas Alex,
thank you to chaplain job can be very trying as well.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
It can be very trying, but it also can be
really rewarding to the same times.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
You're there for folks when going through tough times, but
you're also there to help them point them back toward
the lights.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Absolutely. Yes, we've got some great members and those members
go through some challenging times and you know, I feel
blessed that we get to be part of it and
just helping them to see through the tough times.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
We've also seen some unbelievable displays of valor out of
the Louisville Fire Department, dealing with trucks hanging off of
the sides of bridges in the last couple of months,
and we've seen it twice. Mind boggling that people forget
first responders like you are pressed into action. You don't
know what's setting up for you there, but that looked

(03:08):
exceedingly dangerous, but The kind of training you must do
is pretty consistent right to It's constant.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
The police, fire and EMS community is constantly training, ready
to respond.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
We're proud to be a part of it. Yeah. You
just never know the situation that you'll come upon, and
you know you got to pull off a miracle and
it's just another day's work. That's right, that's all good. Oh,
we have a third person here in the studio. I
haven't even mentioned yet, my sister, Michelle Miners rend Barber.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
Good to see us, Sys, Good to see you too, bro.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Yeah, absolutely, let's see. Let's check our family text. Right.
People don't believe this. We're two of fourteen people, you know, siblings,
and we all love each other and we stay in
touch every day, don't we.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
Yes, we do sometimes too much.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Oh when your phone's going ping ping ping. Oh my god,
my son is pitching a game and he just struck
out matter ping ping ping. Yeah, Well I'm at a funeral,
so slow it down a little bit. We all run
into that now and again, yes, daily, although today we
were reminded there's a couple of family birthdays and then

(04:14):
everybody says text because they're like nieces nephew's cousins, that
sort of thing. So that's all good. The information rolls constantly.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
Well that's true, all right.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Now, you texted me privately, you didn't do it on
the family thread, and you said, hey, we got healthfare
coming up, and let's mention it on the radio. So
it's good to see you, says this is the first
time you've been in my studio in a while, right.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
Yes, it has been since COVID. Yeah, that was my
last conversation with you on the air.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Oh that was when Yeah, I was interviewing all my siblings, everybody.
We were trying to teach people what to do with
all their idle time. Oh my gosh, so I did.
I had nieces, nephews, extended family, and they all did
a segment with me to just sort of tell us
how they were handling the COVID isolation. Who was on
with you? Your son, David? Did you do it by yourself?

Speaker 4 (05:01):
By myself?

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Because some people would have like a few people on
the line. What's good. You'll be on the best of
by the way, too, all the miners are on the
fifty years of Terry Miners best stuff.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
Oh yeah, you're the best.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
I can't be, can't be We all of us are
equally the best. That's the way I look at it.
All right, sister, Well, actually, Alex, you're tell me about
the healthfare person. She's going to tell me about her participation.
That tell me what's coming up.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Absolutely, thank you the Community Health Fair. This is our
second year doing it and we are a sponsor and
then the Chambers co sponsoring. It's going to be on
May the seventeenth, this coming Saturday, from nine am to one.
We have roughly forty five vendors that are going to
be there set up. We're going to have health screenings,
We're gonna have checks from some of the local hospitals.

(05:46):
We've got food vendors, We've got a bouncy for kids,
we've got police fire, an EMS demonstration, Stop the bleed,
hands only CPR.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
So there's so you actually you're literally teaching people how
to stop.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
We are absolutely so. We've got so the training that
Chief Early was talking about earlier that our members go
through on a regular basis. They're going to be out
there teaching also our community how to do stop the bleed.
We're also going to be teaching hands only CPR. We've
got mannequins ready and are.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
We're using staying alive? They always do that at the
u of LGT. They go to go to that beat.
Is that the one time that works? Und a minute?
How many people were talking about living Fern Creek now?
Is that still a burgeoning population?

Speaker 3 (06:36):
It is an exploding population. It's amazing, very vibrant community.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
Yeah. I mean, obviously we've seen the growth, but it's
one of the most prolific growth corridors in this whole area.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
It certainly is the whole the whole district's Expand.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
You have any idea how many people are technically in
Fern Creek Nope, Okay, nope. So as I was just
wondering if it was like second or third in terms
of size compared to these City of Louisville, even though
I know our city boundary technically is the whole county.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
Now the city boundary is the whole county. The Fern
Creek Fire Protection District is slightly larger than the City
of Louisville.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
It's a pretty expansive area, I figure. And there's just
people just keep going there because they good place to live,
because there's healthfares like this and the screenings are free.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Screenings are free.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Yes, that's always good, hear Michelle. What's your participation?

Speaker 4 (07:25):
Well, I'm excited to take part in it. I have
worked for Weight Watchers for twenty three years, and if
you stop by my booth, I'll be giving away a
Bluetooth scale. I will also be running a joining special
where you can join for nineteen dollars a month for
ten months, and that normally runs forty five dollars, so
it's the savings of sixty percent. Great deal. If you

(07:45):
joined the show, I'll give you a free prize while
they last.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Oh nice. So what happens? That's a tutorial service on
what happens in those because I remember you were doing
a class when I was going to that golf place
next door, and I popped in and said, high.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
It's mainly teaching you how to eat healthy. It's a
lifestyle change.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
Yeah, but it's it's all about, you know, obviously the
caloric content going in, but also the way food is prepared.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
That makes a huge difference.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
That's what I thought, because yesterday we had this thing
on here about how popcorn is a healthy treat. But
the guy also said air pumped. He just kind of
threw that in there was like, oh, I think that's
the key phrase, right, because people use coconut oil or
those types of things, and it's like, well, that kind
of takes away from you know, the discipline, and you're
right on it. Yeah. See, we didn't learn these things

(08:38):
when we were kids. We've learned it as we've traversed
the paths of life. What did we when we were
little kids? They just anything mom could throw together, right,
whatever was cheap, that's right.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
Macaroni.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
We had a lot of macaroni and cheese. And then
you know, we'd come home from football practice or whatever,
and then everybody ate all the food and we were like,
well how far how long take us to run to
pizza Hut?

Speaker 2 (08:58):
But who make the cheese?

Speaker 1 (09:00):
And I want to know? Yeah, we had paper boy money,
so we go eat there. That's important anyway, So who's
invited Michelle to your weight Watchers?

Speaker 4 (09:10):
We'll take anybody, Okay, we're looking. We're always looking for
new members and LAPS members.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
But it's also about just the learning curve too, So
it's really relatable for anybody that's correct, you know, learning
how to feed yourself properly okay, and then what are
the hours on this alex.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
So, it's nine am to one pm on Saturday, May
seventeenth at our station sixty one, which is directly across
the street from the high.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
School, Fern Creek Earn Creek High School. Is that the
only high school on Fern Creek? I guess it is.
You said the high school.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Fern Creek, well public school, right, So okay? At Mercy that's.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
Surprivably, oh Mercy, that's Mercy's technically a fern Creek man.
That campus they built was nice too. That was a
nice donation to them because our mom was a Mercy grad.
But that was down here on Broadway. That's a little
love grade there when he built that out there. That's
nice too.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
Well.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
I'm glad the protection of the Fern Creek carriers in
good hands with you guys and all the other folks
who help out. Love you sis, Glad you pop by
here too, Love you too, bro. All right, May seventeenth,
would you say eleven.

Speaker 2 (10:16):

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Nine to one, Okay, got it? Station sixty one.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
You station sixty one on Bartstown Road.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
Right by from the high school. The high school, that's
Saint Gabriel Land too.

Speaker 4 (10:29):
Before we end, I'd like to shout out to the
young man on the Anchorage Fire Department who helped me today.
I had a flat tire on Bartstown Road and he
stopped right away and helped me, and I was just
very grateful. I know I thanked him, but I want
to thank him again.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
Well, that's awfully nice. That's just good people doing good things.
It's like the kids with the car and the river.
You know, it's just that's what you're supposed to do,
good on it. He was an Anchorage guy, yes, Anchorage
Fire department person. Well, we'll find out who that was.
Make sure you get thanks to himppreciate Cis you too, Alex,
you too, Todd, Thanks a much. Thank you. Back in
