Speaker 1 (00:02):
Yeah, because it's National Radio Day. That's what we have.
We have contests. I remember that that bit from that
comedian Arg Barker talking about radio contests. But we just
told you how to do this one a digital contest.
They're not all the same the way Arge thinks. But
that's okay. It's National Radio Day. We can still feature
it again, this need.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Of the radio today. I heard a radio contest here
in LA.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
But it doesn't matter where you are.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
All radio contests sound exactly the same. You're lucky color
number seven hoop. I'm going I can't believe it. Are
you serious?
Speaker 1 (00:34):
I'm serious? You just want one thousand dollars?
Speaker 2 (00:37):
What's your favorite radio station? This one?
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Don't do whatever the hell it is.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Most people have no shame or humility. There's no rule
that says you have to love the station you want. Huh,
I want a contest, I'd be completely honest. You just
want a thousand dollars? What's your favorite radio station?
Speaker 4 (00:58):
Well?
Speaker 2 (00:58):
I jump around a lot. I like the Spanish one
and this one's pretty good. What station is this anyway?
I just had it on Seek.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Oh, the ultimate insult. We just had it on Seek. Well,
I'm glad you found us. We're the radio. The radio,
that's what we do. We bring you information, we bring
you comedians now and again, we bring you music, weather, traffic,
all those other things, and people in the community, like
the folks that are trying to help Saint Vincent to Paul.
(01:42):
Mackenzie Smith is with us. Hi, Mackenzie Hi, It's so
good to have you on the Electric Radio. Is Tony
with us as well?
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (01:53):
What's up?
Speaker 3 (01:53):
How's it going?
Speaker 1 (01:54):
What's up? Tony?
Speaker 4 (01:56):
Hey? Thanks so much for having us on and congrats.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
On National Radio.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
National Radio day day day, day day day. I don't
even know it till, like, you know, two hours ago.
It's like half of my day I didn't get to celebrate.
So I'm going to celebrate till like noon tomorrow. That
seems fair, doesn't it.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
It does, all right?
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Tell folks about Saint Vincent de Paul, those unaware of
what Saint Vincent de Paul does in this community.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
So we've been.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
Around for a long time, a little over one hundred
and seventy years, since eighteen fifty three, and really our
mission has been about housing and feeding and some pooring
those in need with compassion and dignity. And what that
looks like is, you know, we house about four hundred folks,
whether on campus in are in Shelby Park, on our
Special Works campus, and also some off campus housing as well.
(02:46):
And we've got a community kitchen, a food pantry, counseling services,
case management. So that's just kind of the tip of
the iceberg. But we've been around, you know, like I said,
for a long time, doing good work in this community.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
No doubt about it. And you'd touch a lot of line.
It's because when you help someone, the tributaries off of that,
I mean, the tremors are unbelievable because the ripple effects
affects other people.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Yes, it does, yeah, you know. And we were fortunate
to be able to celebrate an event a couple of
weeks ago for Osenamen, which is our men's shelter, and
we had renovations over the last two years really to
get that into just a better place in terms of
efficiency and security and safety, and just a better place
(03:31):
for our men to be able to come and get
the support they need before we help them with that
permanent housing piece.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
So pretty fantastic, and I know there are some changes
that could be coming with federal funding for this or
that or whatever. But how are you guys holding up
through all this so far, Tony?
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Yeah, you know we're doing and I appreciate you bringing
that up. You know, in terms of we're still waiting
on some of the housing changes, but in terms of
some of the snap cuts, we've kind of responded with
what we call stop the shell, and what that is
is every month we're asking for a different you know,
food pantry need. Our food pantry serves around you know,
nearly seven hundred households per month, and so you know,
(04:11):
this month is jars of peanut butter, jars of jelly,
and we're just asking for folks to bring that down.
You can go on our website to look for food
pantry hours and specific kind of directions for that. But
we're just trying to be proactive. But yeah, like you said,
a little bit of uncertainty sales, so we'll see.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
So, like, when I'm at the grocery store, you want
me to get like an extra couple of jars of
peanut butter and we can bring them to you.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
We'd love for you to get a top. Yeah, absolutely, absolutely.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Okay, Well, just people always want to know what they
can do to help and that's all good. So Mackenzie,
what is this Clubs and Cocktails we're talking about.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
Yeah, so Clubs and Cocktails. We are entering our twenty
second year. It's our largest fundraiser of the year, you know,
going into the twenty second year. It's been around for
over twenty years. It is a two day event, so
we start with the Dinner and Hope Award on Sunday
evening at the Olmstead It's on September twenty first, and
then we follow with a golf scramble on Tuesday, September
(05:09):
twenty third at Harmony Landing Country Club. So we we
have local businesses that have been participating in this event
one way or the other for you know, the twenty
two years that it's been around, and it's a really
great way for us to come together and celebrate the
successes of our year and you know, continue to support
the mission of Statements and de.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
Paul you bet I heard they switched the nines out
there at Harmony Landing. That's the justin Thomas Families thing. Yeah, seriously,
And he said that those whold dudes we're driving their
golf carts around. It was like bumper cars. Where's all
number two because it's so funny. So that's a great place.
So I'm glad you get to use that venue. That's
all awesome.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
All right.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
How can people learn more about clubs and cocktails and
how they can get involved?
Speaker 5 (05:52):
Yeah, so if you go to our main website svdplu
dot org, we have an events tab that'll take you
direct lead to our events page. We are still selling
individual tickets to the Dinner and Hope Award. Those are
one hundred dollars a person. We do a bourbon pool,
we do a silent auction, a mission round, you know,
have have a great uh buffet for people at the
(06:14):
Dinner and Hope Award. We're still selling foursomes as well
for the golf scramble. So you can find all that
information through our website and through that events tab.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Okay, and you said s v D P l o
U Saint Vincent d Paul. I'm just letting people who
are driving their cars going, what was that, s v
DP is St Vincent de Paul. They'll remember that s
v D P l o U dot org exactly. Yes,
that sounds right. Okay, well, listen, I hope this event
(06:44):
goes wonderfully for you because you guys, you do you're
doing God's work here and it's greatly appreciated throughout the community.
And also on your website people can find other ways
they can be of help to you.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Tony, Yes, sir, Yeah, like I said, the doctor shoutson
is that's a small but important way to help those
households that come to our food pantry every Tuesday Thursday.
We also have a.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
Donate now page and then our volunteer base is strong
right now, but we're always looking for volunteers, whether individuals, businesses,
volunteer groups are such a big part of what we
do every day to be able to carry out our mission.
So we really appreciate your help and spread that awareness here.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Yeah, no doubt about it. I mean we've got to
have people to staff these these different needs to help
the community, so important stuff. All right, appreciate you both
of you, and I hope the event goes well for you.
The events go well for you.
Speaker 5 (07:36):
Thank you, thank you, appreciate thank.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
You much, all right, Tony Noakim and Mackenzie Smith with
Saint Vincent de Paul. Our website is SVDP lou dot org.
That's what we do. We're here serving the community, letting
you know, where there's a need, there's always somebody who
hears it and then responds accordingly. So we appreciate you
here on National Radio Day One more little ditty here
(08:00):
