(00:00):
So you're part of the Granite YMCAthere, and so tell me your your
deal. You're you're traveling all acrossAmerican running marathons. Yes, I am
traveling across all fifty state and I'mfrom the New Hamster and I'm a member
of Granite WYMCA. And when Icome to the city on Portsmouth, then
(00:26):
I joined this YMCA. But allthat time I was not a real athletics
like today, and I was doingthe exercise, I was learning the swimming,
but I was not professionally enough todo anything. One day I decided
to do the Iron Man. Iregistered for aran. Wait a minute,
(00:48):
iron Man. That's like a twopoint one mile swim or something, and
then one hundred and sixteen bicycle miles, one hundred and eight, one hundred
and ten miles round and twenty sixwent two mile marathon. I have to
do that. Yeah. So,also, you can't you swim like a
rock? Is that what you're tellingme? You couldn't swim very well?
You were just thinking what am Igoing to do next? Why don't I
(01:11):
try iron Man? I just registeredbecause I was dedicated to my mother.
She passed away tenuous back and Iregistered and I was not able to swim.
I started learning from the wams hereand I struggled a lot. Coach
was teaching me. It was notmore than enough to swim in a lake.
(01:36):
So when you swim in a lakeis a different swimming a yeah,
pool is a different. But didanyone at the wife say, hey,
Raj, hey an iron Man.That's a serious challenge. Yes, you
gotta think this through before you signup. Absolutely true, it was really
challenged. But I was dedicating tomy mother, so I thought, anyhow,
(01:57):
I have to do that. SoI worked very hard day and night,
especially for a swimming and the YMCpeople they helped me a lot.
They're given all the tips and techniquehow I can go through that fantastic.
And you're a software engineer or something, Yes, I am working as a
software engineer, so clearly that takesup some of your time. But when
(02:22):
you dedicate yourself with something like anIronman pursuit, that takes up a whole
lot of your other hours. Yes, every day I was doing six hour
training for how long ahead of thehour I have done it? Training almost
a seven months? Oh my goodness, So running a marathon isn't that much
of a deal for you now,Oh, I can say the marathon running
(02:45):
is easy for me now is nothing. I looked at your times of these
first like seventeen marathons that you've own. Which one is Louisville? Which one
is this one that's coming up Saturday? Number Kentucky Derby is a number twenty
one, number twenty one of yourfifty Yes. I was looking at your
times. You're doing sub eight minutemiles, aren't you. Yes, But
(03:07):
I will tell you I am justrunning easy rub it in those times,
not doing the marathon training. I'mjust going and flowing. And so you're
telling me you're not training and you'rerunning a marathon faster than I did when
I trained for months. My besttime is three thirty nine, which is
an eight twenty three per mile average, And I was proud of that.
(03:28):
And then I looked at your times. You're not even trying and you're doing
like seven fifty five miles, aren'tYes, I'm just flowing. I'm just
going like that. That is unbelievablenatural talent. It's not natural talent.
I can say. It's all aboutI have done a training in the past,
and that is being off. NowI can say, but you're not
(03:52):
training for each of these marathons.I can say, I'm not doing any
training for this race because technically fora marathon, you need a eighteen weeks
training right, I'm not doing thatevery alternate week. I'm running the marathon.
Okay, So let's talk about someof the other things that come in
for people who are new because thereare people listening to us. They're gonna
(04:12):
do a half marathon and they're nervousabout it. They're gonna do a full
marathon. They're nervous about it.But obviously clearly this doesn't bother you at
all. Do you you put vasolineon behind your arms and on your feet
or do you do that sort ofthing or are you just like no,
it's all depend people to people. So if you think too much, then
(04:34):
there is a lot of things youhave to do, But I can say
it's not required that much. SoI can say, is the marathon or
a hot malethon people think a lotabout that is tough. What I can
say these are the game between themind and body. That's fascinating. Yes,
(04:55):
what about power gels those types ofthings? People you know will eat
a power before they start they don'thave another one forty five minutes later and
so forth like that. Are youdoing that sort of thing? Are you
gumming that? I am taking careof that. You need to take care
of your body because whenever you arerunning, you're burning your calory. Yeah,
you have to fuel back then onlyyou can run it, and you
(05:15):
can. You have to stay aheadof it. Yes, that's the important
things. That you don't run outof electrolytes and who knows what else,
because then your body starts reacting correct. If it is a deficiency in your
body, then you will get acramp and then then you're done. You're
cooked. Have you made it throughall of the marathons or did you have
(05:38):
to pull up in any of them? Yes? One of the marathons in
the North Carolina, I have astruggle a lot. And I will tell
you the weather was very bad.It was a rain and it's a windy
crossing above the sea breeze. Andat the mile twenty one I got hypothermia.
(06:00):
Is this North Carolina? Yes,that doesn't sound like a North Carolina
situation. What was it by theit was a bad day, I can
say. Was it by the beachor outer Bank Outer Bank. Dad was
tough one. So you're you're connectedto a YMCA at each one leads and
so it's a YMCA sanctioned like runand so that's why you were doing that
one. Is that how this works? These various marathons you're doing. Yes,
(06:25):
I can say, okay, Sothe Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon is this
weekend, so you're going to knockKentucky off the list. And there are
some hills involved in our marathon course, but that doesn't bother you. Oh
no, I can I have Ihave run more Boston. I have just
finished that is a very known asa hilly Cools, So I have gone
(06:46):
through that. By the way, folks, he's wearing his Boston Marathon metal
here in the studio. Now.It's pretty nice. That's pretty sweet.
That feels good. How many timeshave you done Boston? Yeah? Piece
of cake? Now right, that'sno issue whatsoever. Do you have any
that are upcoming that that are makingyou a little anxious, like they're crazy
(07:08):
hills or anything like that. No, it's not like that. You just
show up and like I got it. Yes, topography is not even in
my thought process. You're just gonnaget it done right. Yeah. I
was just just going through that. And are you do you have a family?
Just uh, and there they wonder, Hey, where's dad. Oh
he's running, he's nine states awaytoday. No, I have a family.
(07:30):
I have a family. I havea daughter old. Is she running?
Is she a runner as well? She's running now with me? Of
course she is. She came tothe Boston to run with me five k
so I given a company to her. That's fantastic. And now you're traveling
around in it looks like an RV. Tell me about that. So you're
(07:54):
living your life out of this RVwhen you're not with your family, because
you're going from marathon and marathon.Yes, so that was a challenge.
I accepted to completing this all fiftystate marathon with the RVY, which was
completely sponsored by the YMCA, Andthe challenge was there to complete the marathon
(08:16):
and not going back to the home. You have to stay in the Harvey,
Yeah, and keep traveling the otherstate and keep moving with the RVY,
and stayed there in the RVY.And I, as you told me
before, I am a software engineer, so I'm working full time morning.
(08:37):
Oh my goodness, I see youyou. It shows the Boston Marathon you
did a couple of weeks ago.You have us on Saturday, and then
you're not in Ohio for like threemore weeks, so you get to go
home for a little while. No, so what I so my plan is
changed now. Initially when I started, I thought I will do once in
(08:58):
a day, No, once ina month. Out I added two in
a month. Now in the betweenthese two, I maybe I will add
the Colorado or any other race whichis near I will add, and then
I will go there. So areyou gonna fin You finish in Hawaii?
You're obviously not driving there, sono, whay. I am going on
December. But it's very tough togo with the r V, i'd say.
(09:22):
So. They haven't built that highwayyet. So that'll be the final
one. That'll be the fiftieth. No, the final one will be go
back again in a Boston. SoBoston I am going to two times.
Oh interesting, So it'll be fiftyone total marathon. Yeah, like the
way you think? Brother? Allright, where can people follow your progress
on your YouTube channel? Yes?I have a YouTube channel. It's called
(09:45):
run Rangjeet Sing, Run Run JeetSing. Rung is spelled ri A n
j e E T sing is sin g h. Yes, so they
can find you on YouTube and followyour progress. Oh yeah, much respect
brother. How many iron Man's haveyou? I have done the fourth.
He is a crazed running machine andhe'll get fifty one marathons in in this
(10:09):
series and then he's already done fouriron Man's. What a slacker you are,
I can say anybody can do that. I told you. Actually,
this athletics is nothing about doing thetraining and all is all about game between
the mind and body. Anything youcan do, your body will get tired,
(10:31):
so you have to control with yourmind. So that is a game.
Whenever you learn this thing, anythingyou can do. That's a good
life lesson really for any quest someonehas. I want to go to medical
school, I want to do this. I want to I want to.
Well, you fix your brain onit. The accomplishment is attainable, correct,
that is true, Set your mindand go get it. Yes,
(10:52):
Rajie, a pleasure meeting you.Oh thank you very much. Good having
you on to look for him inthe Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon on this Saturday.
He's the guy who'll be smiling anddoing sub eight minute miles without breaking
a sweat. You'll notice pretty soon. Great to see you brother back in
a minute on news radio waight fortywha s
