(00:00):
All right. Uh well, ifwe get an update on that, we'll
let you know. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a flying legend joining us,
just because I was watching his Twitterfeed and he appears to be flying
across America. He's on the groundright now, but flying over the mountains
in California earlier today. Read Jayden. You know him from WHAS eleven as

(00:21):
a meteorologist and also a pilot ofnote. Read welcome back, Hey Terry,
Good afternoon to you man. It'sgood to talk to you. Wait
a minute, are you in thearea. Are you on the ground.
Gotta be on the ND. Gottabe on the ground in the air here
while we're talking. In about fortyfive seconds or so. Okay, all
right, now, we're in alittle talent in Arizona, Buckeye, Arizona

(00:47):
at Ohay Airport. The elevation's fifteenthirteen feet and the temperature is a cool
one hundred nine degrees. Oh mygoodness, you're in the heap bubble.
We are in the heat bubble hereand that'll continue across Texas. The plan
is to overnight at Odessa, Texas, estimating Odessa at about eight thirty tonight

(01:11):
local time, and that would benine thirty loyal time, well ahead of
daylight. With a brand new helicopter, you really don't like to fly in
the dark. And each fuel stoptakes a little longer because you want to
It's it's like a new car,you know, you want to check everything
out and make sure that nothing hasdeveloped since the last fuel stop. And

(01:34):
they leave the factory. I'm prettygood shape, really, but hey,
it's a beautiful trip coming across country. We leave. How many hours can
you get? I mean, Idon't know how much fuel a helicopter holds
those it can you fly for twohours? Or this this leg here which
was came over from Thermal, Californiato Buckeye, h it was about two

(01:57):
and half hours and that's about it. We've that's with a good healthy reserve
in there. And then do youdo you have a tailwind at all?
Then? Carrying a nice tailwind todayabout anywhere from five to eight knots or
so, and that you know itwere a little bit helps where they have
a tailwind than a hit wind.I saw the photo you posted a little

(02:17):
while ago passing Palm Springs snow upat eighty five hundred feet and you were
flying at fifty five hundred. Wewere at fifty five hundred. Now that's
above sea level, but sea levelthere is pretty well ground level. Yeah,
yeah, we were a fifty fivehundred and it was just beautiful to
look out the door, look outthe window. I feel like you can

(02:38):
touch that snow. It's up therewhere the where the where the tram,
the Palm Springs tram goes up fromthe mountains there, but there's still snow
up there. And we were sittingdown here at plus one hundred on the
ground. That's just amazing to me. Just the nature is just an amazing
thing. So please tell me youhave air conditioning on board? Yes,

(03:00):
yeah, it's it's rare an alicopter, but you know, yes, good
air conditioning working very well. Andwe're in the air now and uh,
just it's very comfortable in here,Okay, very very Did you just take
off and I didn't hear that,Yeah, didn't even couldn't even tell it.
Could you take off? Well, that's very nice. Well, I
don't want to hold you while you'reflying, that's okay, But can people

(03:23):
follow you on flight aware or isit a cloaks um delivery? It's Uh,
it's uh, it's it's a closedokay, but follow follow up on
Twitter because every fuel stop and alot of things between are going on there.
You know, it's a beautiful countrywhen you fly down here too low
and slow and take a look atit and you see so much that you

(03:44):
never knew existed, and it's youdon't realize how beautiful our nation is.
Okay, what's the overall? Isit? Three days? Two days?
How long does it take you tofly that back? Because you have you're
not going to fly at night ina new crash. No, this time
of the year, in January,it'll take two and a half to three
days, and first time of theyear you got long days. Get off
the ramp early. We're estimating greepback in little tomorrow mid afternoon of the

(04:10):
ladist. We're incredible, mister Reid, you really are. Okay, the
machinery is fun. And Terry, you're a pilot. You know what a
privilege it is to exercise the privilegesof that pilot certificate. Yeah, all
right, good weather to your brotherand happy flying, and we'll follow you
on Twitter. Thank you, Terry. It's good to talk to you.

(04:30):
Annie Tom on a happy Foddy andhappy weekend. Thanks Buddy, read yad
and ladies and gentlemen. Longtime flyinghero of mine and obviously a broadcaster and
a meteorologist for WHAS eleven. OnTwitter, he is WHA S eleven read
r E E D. And hispictures today have just been I saw him
a little while ago. I waslike, what's happening. I didn't realize

(04:51):
he's ferrying a new helicopter. Pilotsdo that stuff. There's one off the
line they send the pilot to.I'll get it and take it to whomever's
purchasing it. And he said he'scoming here, so I guess it's the
recipient is here in Louisville or inthis general area. That's just the way
that stuff goes. But ferrying isjust another nice job you get to do

(05:14):
when you have a pilot's license.Somebody goes, hey, can you fly
up blah blah blah. Sure can, and then you go there and then
if you get to fly a newplane back. But like he said,
you don't want to fly at nightbecause you want you want to check all
the everything that all the controls, everything's working smoothly and wonderfully and daylight is
everything when you're flying. Just obviouslyit's easier to figure out an alternate if

(05:38):
that need arises. But Read's photosare cool of just the things he's showing.
I think he told me in atext. I'll let me check my
phone that he is south of Phoenix, I think is what he said,
and he's in He's headed to Odessa, Texas, and who hopes to get

(05:59):
that done in daylight? Obviously wherehe is it's still West Coast time,
so it's one twelve pm. Buthe said eight thirty pm or nine thirty
pm Louisville time, expects to bein Texas. That's all good anyway.
Follow him on Twitter and I thinkyou're going to see some cool pictures here
today and tomorrow before he arrives inLouisville. W h A S eleven.
