Speaker 1 (00:00):
Also with us is Steve Macy. He is with the
Louisville Kings are forthcoming our brand new football team. Steve.
Good to see you.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Good to see you, Terry. Thanks, welcome to our studio.
This place is awesome. And I just walked down the street,
parked and came walking down the streets. Person, I've been
down here. It's awesome.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Well, welcome to Louisville. We're glad to have you here.
This is your home. We're gonna be this your broadcast home.
Fair enoughnytime you want to get on, I'm here. The
door is unlocked. We're new best friends. I love it easy.
As soon as I Miles was there with me. As
soon as your team was announced, I said, I'm buying
four tickets. I mean, well, we got a chance to
meet at the at the ceremony when we announced the team,

(00:37):
and you walked up said I bought four tickets. I said,
we're gonna be friends. You're my new best friend. Right away, Austin,
You're going to some games with me too, aren't you.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
It sounds like a plan.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
I was waiting for the invite, but I guess I
had to wait a couple of weeks to get it well.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
My wife and I and my son and his buddy
went to the Louisville game on Saturday night and it
was like that was a pretty popular place to be
as well. And so this is to be fun because
we're gonna get football in a different part of the calendar.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Right, Yeah, So we're gonna start at the end of
March playing at Lynn Family Stadium. So excited that the
place is phenomenal and their staff has been wonderful to us,
like just welcoming anything we've needed to do. We did
a couple tabling events at a couple of their soccer
games a couple of weeks ago. We're doing it again
this weekend. They've been phenomenal to work with. They're excited

(01:24):
about having professional football with the OT instead of UT
in their place. So it's been we have been welcomed
with open arms by by everybody in Louisville, so friendly city.
It's been amazing. Where do you live? So I lived
in Memphis. I was there with these showboats the last
three years, and fortunate enough that they've kept me on

(01:44):
to come and now run the new Louisville franchise and
couldn't be happier.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Is that where you grew up. Are you a Tennessee
In No. I moved a whole bunch as a kid.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
And dad was not military, but he worked Frons Corny Fiberglass,
and they had him in this little crazy deal where
he'd move every two years and learning new piece of
the business. He'd walk in the house with a bouquet
of flowers. My mom would go, oh crap, yeah, here's
what I'm watching flowers. Though that was also dead in

(02:13):
three days. So we moved eleven times, so it was crazy.
So she hated them a lot. They're still together somehow,
but she hated them. Good for mom and dad, that
is awesome. But that's a good story every two years. Sorry, sorry, honey.
How many states did you live in? Eleven different move
from We were twice in two different times. Okay, Michigan.
So I've never done the states thing. That's a good question.

(02:34):
I don't how many times we moved, but not the States.
All right, this this football product we're talking about. We're
going to get to more in just a second, but
I got to continue with Paul Miles on the Dodgers. Yes,
who's throwing tonight?

Speaker 4 (02:46):
I believe it's Tyler and glass now okay, yeah, but
I think we have show hay perhaps tomorrow night.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Okay, that's important, Yes.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Because the last time he was on the mound, it was.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Should I imagine this or did the picture for Toronto
throw at Old at show hayes head the other night.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
I think he might have not cool?

Speaker 2 (03:06):
You get three home runs due you can't.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
He's like the new babe Ruth. You can't throw at him.
He had a look on his face. It was incredible. Yeah, like, hello,
has no one? Have we not been introduced? I just
thought that was fantastic. What do you think ticket prices
are like? When show he pitches? Oh, it's got to

(03:31):
be crazy Tomorrow night right? Oh yeah, I mean tonight? Yeah,
I think tomorrow night's yeah. Yeah, they don't have the
pictures listed here. Tonight's games eight pm. There's Monday night football.
We'll get into that as well. I want to recap
something from the weekend too, because it's a big town
in terms of Lamar Jackson news, so we always talk
about what's up with Lamar Jackson. There's some sort of

(03:53):
a deal where they reported him ready to play Steve.
You probably know about how these things work. He was
on the list to play. The NFL says are going
to investigate the Ravens over the handling of Lamar's practice participations.
The Ravens listed him as a full participant on Friday's
injury report, and then they changed his status to limited

(04:15):
on Saturday, a day before yesterday's game. And here is
John Harball, the head coach of the Ravens.

Speaker 5 (04:23):
It's an honest mistake. I mean, he really is an
honest stake. Yeah, And I can tell you this. Nobody's
trying to hide anything. I mean, there's no advantage, there's
no advantage to be gained, you know with that. I
mean it was he practiced. His status was what it was.
He was questionable. I do think if we'd had the
old status, but maybe they would have said doubtful maybe,

(04:44):
I don't know, but questionable or out. You know, we
weren't going to say out.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Okay, is that a thing about Steve? Since you're in
the football game, about making the other team think you're
going to be playing against a guy and so they
work their.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Actually, actually it's it's worse than that. It's about betting.
It's you know, because there's so much money put on
these games and it's so important to the NFL and
really all sports now, especially now that when you mess
with the betting lines, that gets a lot of people irritated.
And so that's you know, they've tried to and the
NFL has done a great job of this over the time,

(05:22):
is making sure that there's not going to be one
of these situations where a major player is you don't
know if he's playing or not, and they really kind
of get to the point where they might they want
it declared.

Speaker 4 (05:34):
Okay, this is bad timing too right off the NBA thing, Well, yeah,
that's even.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
A better point. Yeah, I mean that that was mind
boggling last week because then you start wondering what am
I watching in the NBA because there's a lot of
individualized play. Obviously unlike a game like football, it's a
little more difficult. But a guy who's going to say
I'm going to score less than ten points, he pretty
much has control.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
He's gonna score less than ten points. Yeah, that one's scary,
I think for all of sports. But do you think
a sport like that baseball, a guy can get hitten
like show, Hey we're just talking about he had three
home runs last time. He pitched and through phenomenal did
all those things. But it'd be really hard for him
to throw a game, of course unless he was pitching.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
But is a batter.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Okay, you have a bad game that happened, there's eight
other guys. But in basketball, you know, we always talked
about you can turn a basketball program around with a
couple guys, and if one of those guys throws it, man, it's.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
I think this story is going to widen. You know,
this this NBA thing last week, and it's also you know,
it's not just on court play. We're talking about Chauncey
billups and those poker games and machines that can read
cards while they're shuffling them and then tell you which
hand Terry's got versus Steve, versus Paul versus Sherry. All
of us are holding a hand that somebody in an

(06:51):
earpiece can say he's got two games.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
You're not going to casino with me anytime.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Soon, No, I mean totally scared me away. One more
football note, since we're doing that today. Of course, I'm
thrilled about my Green Bay Packers beating the Pittsburgh Steelers
last night. Aaron Rodgers, of course, used to be. We
all loved him. Now we're kind of He's a little
bit of a difficult date. Sometimes he's just a bit

(07:15):
of a challenge. He had a lot of respect for
how much Packer fan noise there was in Pittsburgh Stadium
last night.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
The first point they were chanting, go Paco and you
hit DK for twenty five yards.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
That had to be a little bit of a strange
feeling to quiet that chant for once.

Speaker 6 (07:31):
I've heard that chant for eighteen years. So Packer fans
traveled really well. First time in a while I've used
silent count for a home game. That's a credit to
thos Packer fans.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
That's rather interesting. He had to use silent count at
his own home game. That's tough, you could get. I
give him credit though, for at least admitting, Hey, this
was tough. And you know, I think when he goes
to the Hall of Fame, he's probably going in as
a Packer. Oh yeah, And so I think he's being smart. Yeah,
he's fortune MVP there I went. I think Paul and
I talked about this before I went up to Cincinnati

(08:06):
when they were playing the Steelers several years ago. Mary
and I went up there there were sixty seven percent
Steelers fans, and it was it was mind boggling. The
Steelers fan noise overwhelmed the home team, the Bengals, and
it was just like, so anything can happen. The good
news about our forthcoming football team is we've got a

(08:28):
great stadium venue because it's the right amount of seats
so that we can we can overwhelm them with our
own local set.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Well, that's a great point, and I think that's one
of the nice things about Micropoli coming in is he
asked us to re examine everything we were doing. So
three franchises went away, including the one I was running
in Memphis. It was Memphis, San Antonio, and Detroit. All
of them had sixty thousand seat plus stadiums that ten
to fifteen thousand people, and they looked terrible. And it's

(08:56):
not a bad crowd, and you compared to the NBA,
wnba H, not quite major League Baseball, but the other
spring sports of fifteen thousand person crowds, A great crowd
is going to look full. And so that's what he
looked at was, hey, let's look at the soccer stadiums.
DC was doing that already. So the DC defenders have
been playing in in the field there. That's a soccer stadium,

(09:17):
and it looks full, it sounds full, there's great energy.
There's nothing worse than a big play happen. You have
to run twenty feet to give somebody a high five, right,
I mean. And so that's one of the things we
talked about, is how do we get that fan engagement
WHI becomes the thing to do when you have fun
when you're there. And I think that the size of
the stadium has to fit our crowd size, and I
think it's I think it's been great.

Speaker 4 (09:37):
And the two things about Lynn Family Stadium, there's not
a bad seat in the house. And when you're sitting
close to the field or the pitch for soccer, you're
right on the action.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
I mean, it's right there.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Yeah, there's some great seats and we're gonna do some
fun things with I think we're gonna put some barstool
sized chairs in the first row in that north end
zone and kind of make those a premium spot to
be right there on the action. I'm really excited to
see how the supporter section works in the south end
zone with football. You know, it's a little bit longer

(10:07):
game to be standing up that long. But I think
that group. We've already had several people reach out to
us to say, what are we going to call ourselves?

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Right?

Speaker 2 (10:15):
How are we going to organize this? Can we be
part of it? The King's Court is something, I mean,
I love it. I like it was the soft plug. Yeah,
the King to this Court. But I love all of
those things. So we've got an already a group of
fifteen to one hundred's it says between fifteen one hundred
that want to be that supporter group for our football games.
And that's you know, it's music to my ears.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
That'll be fun. Yeah, that'll be like a bar in
the end zone where that's hanging out having a good time.
So what are we talking about in terms of players
that will that play at this level? Is that a
guy who's waiting to get back on an NFL roster.
Is it somebody who's just out of college and wasn't drafted.
What are we talking about? It's all of the above.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
So almost ninety percent of the guys that we're on
our rosters have been somehow affiliated with an NFL team
that they were drafted, They were on a practice squad.
They were in training camp, so it's a it's a
super high level. When you compare that to baseball and basketball,
which were about five percent, it's these guys have all
kind of had a taste of it. Some of them

(11:14):
just were in the wrong in the wrong camp. You know,
a guy that was a great wide receiver in college
goes to an NFL camp and all six receivers in
NFL camp stay healthy. He never really gets a shot,
and he was just in the wrong camp. We have
a lot of that. The play is just absolutely phenomenal.
It's high end. There's over three hundred guys that have
been in NFL rosters now that are in our league

(11:36):
that have made the rosters. So it's someone has asked
me to describe It's not minor league football because it's
spring football, because they're not affiliated with those teams. It's
not that same Only five percent of the guys are
making it. It's phenomenal football at a very very high level.
In terms of coaching. Are we talking about former players?
People have noted that we are already familiar with that

(11:57):
sort of thing. So as a marketer at heart, I'm
hoping that it's somebody that we know, and it's somebody
that's local and has a lot of local panas. I
don't know who it's going to be yet. I had
heard a name, but you know, and it didn't work out.
We're all hearing one name, yeah, because he made an
NFL roster and so there's a lot of that. But
I think, you know, the idea here is to find

(12:18):
someone that can be the face because the players are
going to come and go over time. You know. The
goal is that we're we provide them the avenue to
do whatever they want to do in their life, whether
it's it's in football or something else that we're trying
to build young men, kind of like in the college game,
but this is a little bit on the higher level.
And what you will find as you guys interact with

(12:39):
the players and the coaches, they're so appreciative to be
able to play professional football that they've been humbled in
some way, shape or form.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
It's been my.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
Favorite level of athlete to work with because they're just
they're so excited and hungry to be part of anything
it has to do with football. And then is there
like a tailgate mindset to big time. So I think
one of the neat things about the FC team here
is and there's such a great tail getting space up

(13:09):
on top of the hilly Yes, it's it's incredible. What
that tailgating atmosphere he is. And we're hoping we just
go check it. Let's play it right up there. We're
gonna run right up there and we're to have a
big tail gate up there. We'll have parties, we'll have inflatables,
we'll do all the things. And then some of the
open space for fans. If you haven't been to a
soccer match, the space on that north end zone right

(13:33):
by the river where it's all in Uh, it's all enclosed.
You have to show your ticket to get in, but
it's the artificial turf, and they've got a little plaque
practice soccer field for kids to run on. They've got
inflatables out there. It's a really neat place for families
to come and enjoy. And we just can't wait to
make that our home. Fantastic, So how many games are

(13:53):
we talking about? People can plan on their calendar and
what time of year exactly, Yesotera. We the season will
start at the end of March and it'll run ten
straight weeks. We have five home, five away games, and
there'll be one week of playoffs. The top four teams
will play off, and then the following week, which is
Father's Day weekend, that'll be the championship game. It's a sprint.
It's twelve weeks of spring football. You know, people have

(14:16):
asked about the ticket prices. We haven't set them yet,
but they're going to be in line with what Low
City's doing from a pricing standpoint, and we'll we say, hey, look,
the other thing we'll give you is that you can
get in for less than a hundred bucks for a
season taken. We'll have that price point.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Out standing looking forward to that. And what sort of
roster size are we talking? What's it take to put
a team together?

Speaker 2 (14:35):
So they have sixty guys fifty year active each week,
so ten guys are inactive and those ten guys get
a certain level pay. The fifty that are active get
a little higher pay for that week. And so it's
a small squad like the NFL. You know, there's guys
that are playing special teams and offense and defense just
to make that roster work.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Okay, and is it during the time of the year.
I'm sorry to dominate here a, Paul, do it just fine.
Anytime I mean is during a time of year where
the league, the NFL can pluck someone away from you.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
They really don't during the season. Okay, So that because
this is one of their opportunities to see guys. And
that's why there's so many UFL players in XFL and
USFL before that that are playing in the NFL because
they're getting to see ten weeks of film on somebody
I see. And this season ends early enough that guys
that have bumps and bruises that they've got plenty of

(15:29):
time to get healthy before they would head to training
camp if that was the case.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
Yeah, Miles, and nine years ago, we're over at the
baseball game and they said, our starting pitcher tonight, our
rolled As Chapman has been called to Cincinnati. So instead,
here's Terry Miners.

Speaker 3 (15:45):
A quick question. I have to go back to the
studio here.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
What's the biggest rules difference between this league and let's
say NFL or college.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
So the biggest one is the extra point. So in
our league, do not kick an extra point. You either
go for one, two, or three from either the two,
the five, or the ten.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
Oh I love it.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
The NFL kickoff rules is basically what we were doing.
The new NFL rule where you're not bringing the chains
out that it's electronic, that was ours. Those are those
were three of the biggest things, and now it really
is just the extra point, which I wish, as a
more of a football purist that we would have a
kick available, but we don't, so it's no bag deal.

(16:25):
So's it's one of those things where you tell people
how it is. Now the best rule we have. We
have by far the best overtime rules. So we college,
you have the twenty five yard line the NFL, each
team gets the ball. Ours is it's a best of
three two point conversion from the two and so it's
just it's more like a soccer shootout. And you talk

(16:46):
about edge your seat because every single one of those
six plays matters, and then it goes to a sudden
death after that, it's the it's the best overtime rule.
Love the Son of the Louisville Kings. That's our new
team here in Louisville. And then when can people can
go online now and you can you can go to
UFL Kings dot com. UFL Kings dot com put down
a fifty dollars deposit to get your tickets, and we

(17:08):
expect to have seating assignments starting in early November. For
those that have already put down their deposits. Thank you, Terry,
it's one of those and others that have done that.
One of the things I will say, just thank you Louisville.
We have crushed it in this town in terms of
putting deposits down, especially compared to Columbus and Orlando. Now

(17:28):
the league has said it's not a competition. I said, yes,
it is. Of course we're killing it. It's definitely competition.
And so it's a great time of year. People are
gonna love this. The city's gonna really enjoy how much
fun this is. Our opening day, well, hopefully we'll start that.
I'm hoping that we get an opening weekend game that
March twenty seven to twenty eight. Twenty nights we play Friday,

(17:48):
Saturdays and Sundays. That Fox window that they have college
football on Friday nights, college of basketball on Friday nights.
They move right into the UFL on Friday nights and
then Saturdays and Sundays and all games are on Fox,
ABC and ESPN.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
Beautiful Steve Mason. Great, talk to you again, buddy, Just
see you. Louisville Kings dot Com is also on uf
L Kings dot com. You can get their uf you
can get their Louisville Kings dot com. Okay, great talking,
