Speaker 1 (00:00):
John, you're representing the University of Kentucky Alumni Association. Yes,
it's good to see you again.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Brother, you too.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Obviously, the football luncheon is coming up soon. Coach Stoops,
he had all of his comments this morning. He's talking
about who's in, who's heard, who's looking good, all that.
Then we all heard the announcement later today about the
twenty twenty one season for football. A challenge there to
be sure, and then how to do with the guys
working at UK Healthcare and so that's an NCAA agreement

(00:30):
they've made with the University of Kentucky. And then also
some issues with the swim program that doctor Capluto's letter
I thought was very powerful, very touching, and I read
that earlier today because he's really concerned about those athletes
in the swimming call them that were, you know, affected,
So they're they're managing that at the university. I'm sure
Stoops is looking forward to coming back for this luncheon though,

(00:53):
because the venue you guys have is just incredible.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
It's great space at Churchill Down's the first turn experience
for anybody that hasn't been there. It's first level space
with all windows, so you can see the first turn
of the track. If you like to take pictures, there's great.
You can go out on that on the patio and
get a picture of the first turn with the twin
spires in the background, which you can't really do when

(01:19):
you're on the front side.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Yeah, that was a that was a good use of
that space. And that bar area they have in there
is phenomenal. So how many people came to this same
last time It was a thousand.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
More than about a thousand.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Yeah, that's a nice space for that though, because there's
movement and you know, it's airy, and there's a whole
lot of a whole lot to love about that venue
over traditional ballroom, that's for sure. So coach comes in
and then what else happens.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
So we'll hear about the season, and coach will speak
and there'll be opportunities for people to get up close
and meet the coach, and we'll serve lunch. Mike Anderson
and his group does a great job with lunch out there,
and it's great that the parking is very easy, so
it's a very easy in and out.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Now do you get to torment Venetty? Do they bring
the Governor's Cup back? To town to put on display
at this thing.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Well since since Louisville hasn't beat Kentucky in football in
two four hundred and forty two days. If Tony would
like to see what the governor's truck trophy looks like,
He's welcome to come see it.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
He's smarted off to you before I know he has.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
I still have those texts from back in about a
decade ago.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Just don't ever let him off the hook.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Never.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
But even with the twenty twenty one season issue that
came up here, technically that count still matters because Louisville
didn't win that game.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Yes, the wins vacated, but it doesn't get transferred to.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
The how many days is it again? So I can
remind for THATDI when I see him t.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Two thousand and four hundred and forty two.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
That's astounding. I thought louis was going to win last year.
They were set up in a perfect position for that,
playing here perfect day. All the energy of the season
seemed like it was riding along in the right direction
and they should be able to beat UK and then boom, they.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Kicked to Barry and Brown and you don't kick to
a ten flat hundred meter guy.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
No, that was not smart. By the way, Barran Brown
showed up on the Paul Horning watch lists. They listed
forty eight players this week that they're going to keep
an eye on in the upcoming season. That is about
the most versatile player in college football, and he is
one of the candidates on there. Exciting guy wheels you
can't coach speed. No, No, what a gift that is?

(03:43):
All right? So anyway, we're telling people where they can
find tickets for this luncheon and to get there what time.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
So it's on Monday, August nineteenth at noon, and we
do a really good job of keeping it to a
one hour program. So if you're on a tight schedule
and you can get tickets at UK alumni dot net.
Backslash twenty twenty four kickoff.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Okay, and then Stoops has been talking lately. Did an
interview not too long ago where he said, oh my god,
all my time is being spent raising money for NIL.
He needs to get an NIL associate general, you know,
like assistant coach of NIL.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Yeah. It's just tough for all college.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Yeah, coach, it's changed the universe.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
You have eighty five free agents every year.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
At your wife. She used to work here. That's why
we all know you so well. Does she get a
chance to get her picture made with a football coach?
She does, you know, because you're the organizer. That's part
of the gift. Adele. She'll go, oh, I'll leave the
house for that. Otherwise, you guys are raising kids.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Kids are at UK now, so they're home for the summer.
But they'll be back. I'll be back on campus soon.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Were you going to let them go anywhere else?

Speaker 2 (04:54):
I would have let him go wherever.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
No, you wouldn't, Adele would not get a.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
Luckily raised them well, and they made the right decision.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
I can see a dull But they said they were
going to some other school. Yeah no, not on my watch.
She's standing in the doorway. You're not getting out of here, kid.
All right again, it is Monday, August nineteenth.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
August nineteenth at Churchill Downs.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
And then when's the first football game end of the month.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Right, August thirty first in Southern Miss at home?

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Southern Miss at home? All right, well that'd be interesting.
Are you nervous at all about the schedule?

Speaker 2 (05:30):
The schedule is brutal.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
It is brutal.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
I mean we go to Texas to Tennessee to get Georgia,
got Georgia at home, and then you throw in teams
like Auburn and Florida.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Right. I thought that when I looked at that schedule, like, wow,
I think.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
The big game, second game of the season Southern miss
or so South Carolina and Lexington.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Right. South Carolina's a lot better than they used to
be and they've been a formidable opponent for UK in
recent years.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
So if we can't, if we can't get over that
hurdle the rest of the season, just daunting.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Yeah, well it is. That's just that's the challenge. How
you feeling about the expanded SEC? I mean they're bringing
in a lot of killers.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Man, Well it makes for some again, the opportunity to
go to play in Austin, Texas.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Yeah, yeah, they're kind of fun to football there too.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
Oklahoma.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Yeah, it's just fun to get the ball in the family.
You're gonna love it, John, love it.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
We go to Auburn next year.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Oh that's good. I know some people down there too,
all right. Monday August nineteenth for the University of Kentucky's
Wildcat Kickoff luncheon, and that's Mark Stoops that gives a
preview of the upcoming season and for tickets. Tell them
again where to go? Oh he had on his phone
right there. Okay, one more.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Time, Uklumni dot Net Slash twenty twenty four kickoff.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
All right, I bet one of your kids has a
UFL poster up in his dorm room. He just doesn't
want you to know about it.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
I'm quite confident that is not the case.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Just pulling your leg, Johnny Boy, Good to see you again.
