(00:01):
Catherine and I were pretty company.Maybe you folk wouldn't mind the after shacking
up with you, after that longdrive, we could use a little private
time together, Honey, why don'tyou run and get the kids things?
And don't forget the rubber sheets ofthe turbo. Cousin Eddie on Christmas Vacation,

(00:21):
the Christmas Vacation movie, driving aroundand his what he called or what
Clark Griswold calls the tenement on wheelsdriving around. At least I hope he
got to stop for some light shows. That's one of those Christmas movies you
can't escape this time of year.Cousin Eddie showing up at the Griswold's house.
Kid's allowed to stay. Well,we got a place for him to

(00:43):
go through. It's called Winter Wonderland. It's a three day run. It
starts tomorrow. Jessica Jackson, it'sone of the board members, helps put
all this together. Hi, Jessica, Hi, it's good to have you
here. Thank you so much forhaving me. So this is your second
run at Winter Wonderland. So lastyou tried, and you did this and
you realize this is fun. Andthen once you get the year two,

(01:04):
it's a little easier to handle, isn't it. Yeah, Well, last
year we thought we were only goingto have about five hundred cars come through,
and we had closer to three thousand. So we're hoping to top it
this year and do even better. So we're inviting all of Kentuckyana to come
through this weekend from the fifteenth throughthe seventeenth, from six pm to ten

(01:25):
pm in Shawnee Park in West Louisville. We're gonna light up the whole park
with over two hundred thousand LED lights. We have a laser show, and
Santa Claus is going to be there. Oh I love the sound of all
this. So, first off,who does all that work of stringing those
lights? That was my job atmy house, But two hundred thousand sounds

(01:46):
like a job. Well, itis a huge undertaking, and it takes
us all year at One West toget ready and prepare for this weekend.
We have a crew that has spentall day to day setting up all the
lights. They're gonna do testing assoon as it gets dark to make sure
everything's working, and then we'll havea few test runs for the actual event.

(02:08):
I'm just playing that clip from theChevy Chase movie, so you know,
he's got that whole thing where he'strying real lights and they never come
on and somebody flips the switch. That's always the thing is like you worry
that one thing, But yours isled, isn't it? Ours is led?
And boyd Cat helped us out withgenerators. So it is very organized

(02:30):
and well put together. It isnot you know type that runs that down.
Well that's fun. I love thesound of all that. And then
you said six to ten pm.So this is just a drive through event.
You don't need to get out ofyour car. You don't need to
get out of your car at all. It is completely drive through, so
stay in your car and stay warm. We'll have a radio station for you

(02:54):
to tune to for holiday music.Oh good idea, and you could stay
warm and toasty and see the light. I love all that. Now the
light is it different shapes? Isthat kind of a thing or there they
strung it through the trees or how'sit work? Well, there are a
few that are affixed to the trees. So we have some shooting stars that
are in the trees, and thenwe have some trees that are wrapped around

(03:15):
the base. But most of themare light installations, so there are actual
displays. There are some deers, there's Santa Claus on a train. There's
quite a few things to see see. People love this. They're always saying,
well, we want to go seelights. That's a big thing,
you know, we want to gosee lights. And I heard about this
or that or whatder So this isa nice addition to the offerings available exactly.

(03:38):
So, every year we light upLouisville, but we don't really light
up west of Twelfth Street. Sothis is one West solution to that problem.
We're going to light up the Westend in Shawnee Park. It's one
of Louisville's oldest parks and it's reallyreally beautiful. It doesn't really get the
credit that it's deserved. So we'rehoping that we can bring people to the
West End so that can get appreciationfor just how great it is. Oh

(04:00):
it's a stunning park. I've beenthere so many times for various things.
Tell me about One West. Whatis one West? One West is technically
a charity, but what we dois bring commercial development to West Louisville good.
So we get in touch with peoplewho own businesses, who are interested

(04:23):
in starting businesses and we help themfind their place in the West End.
Sometimes that means they need real estateand a place to set up shop.
Sometimes that means that they want toget in touch with some of the community
development people that we have, andthey want to talk to the community and
ask what services they can provide. So we help them with those types of

(04:43):
things. Fantastic, and you're notdoing almost by yourself. This is a
great group of people, right.Yeah. One West has a huge board
of directors. We also have astaff that work every day really hard trying
to make sure that the vision ofthe board of directors comes true. And
a lot of what we do dois create opportunities. It's it's capacity building

(05:04):
driven. So we want to createopportunities for people to bring some sort of
commercial development to the West End,open up restaurants, open up stores,
because unfortunately that's a part of townthat just really doesn't have those resources.
Right there's so much change over thelast so many decades, but there is
a lot of injection of new energyinto the West that I've seen there is,

(05:27):
and One West is really doing theirpart to try to steer that as
much as possible. We have theRow Houses, which are actually really cool.
They are two restaurants that anyone canapply to run their restaurant in so
they can get kind of a testrun, a fail, you know,

(05:48):
fast to see if your concept worksand it is really affordable, and it
gives you the opportunity to sort ofexperience that restaurant and see if that's really
the way you want it to work, and if it's not, you've got
the ability to make those changes beforeyou sign a lease somewhere and are really
locked into that time ze. Howwould an entrepreneur contact one West to pitch

(06:13):
an idea? Well, you canget in touch with us at info at
one West dot org. Okay, one West dot org. Spell out the
word one, not the numeral.It's yes, it's O N E West
checking. We are also on Facebookand Instagram, so you can get in
touch with us either way, eitherway and we will get right back to

(06:34):
you. Now, you're a mom, but your kids are getting to the
age where they're like, I'm notgonna go look at lights? Is that
the issue? Uh? You knowthey got that teenagery thing or I oh,
believe me, I've raised four Iknow the drill. Yeah, and
well last year they were like,Mom, this is nice, but step
it up a little. So we'vedone that. We've added some extra lights.

(07:00):
You know, they let me knowthat it says okay, but well,
teenagers didn't tell a parent what wasgoing on. Yeah, that's good.
Here's what my kid says. Iasked him to do something with me
the other Hey, you want todo Here's what he always says to me.
No, I'm good. You know, I often think that I will
be the best person I can be. If I can live up to my
teenager's expectation, I will just youknow, right, be the best ever.

(07:25):
That is the pinnacle, that's forsure. All right, Well,
enjoy the show. It starts atsix pm tomorrow night. It runs Friday,
Saturday and Sunday. And you saidsix to ten pm. Six to
ten pm. Where do you enterShawnee Park at the end of Broadway,
right? Is that like forty fifthat forty five oh one West Broadway is
where we're gonna start the queue, and we're gonna funnel you through the park

(07:47):
all the way around. We'll havesecurity guards and people with cones and lights
to show you the way to go, and it'll be really easy. You'll
go through the park and come rightback out and go right back down Broadway.
Perfect. Okay, six to tenpm Friday, Saturday Sunday. It's
called Winter Wonderland to drive through. But you said Santa Claus will be there,

(08:07):
so is there a way to stopand say hi to Santa Nna Claus
will be waving and he wants tosee everybody. Okay, good call,
Jessica, Nice to talk with you. Thanks, thank you so much for
having me. Keep up the goodwork with One West. That's important.
