Speaker 1 (00:01):
Shrock Innovations presents the midwest number one independent computer repair
company with service centers and Lincoln, Omaha, Papillion, Des Moines
and across the country via the Shrock Desk.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
This is Compute This. Good morning, folks, and welcome in
to compute this. My Name'score Shock.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
I'm the owner of the Shock Innovations computer company.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Wow, What's what did I do?
Speaker 4 (00:29):
Nothing? I'm just laughing to myself. I just you know,
I guess hyjinks that goes on in a radio show.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
I need a microphone, I need headphones. This is what works,
and the signal doesn't get from the ether of the
radio to my ears magically. I have to have a
wire that connects my headphones to Yeah. Anyway, you know,
this is the technological stuff that we do at Shrock Innovations.
And so you know, when you're sitting down to do
a radio show and someone says, hey, thor you might
want to get your microphone. Yeah, how about that?
Speaker 4 (00:58):
All right?
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Well for zero, two, five, five, eight eleven ten is
another technological device that you can use to reach out
to the program this morning. It's magical, it's amazing. It
allows your voice to reach my ears and of course,
the ears of everyone else listening if you were outside
of the metro area. We make this technology even more
awesome by not making you pay for it. Eight eight
eight two five zero two zero nine to one. If
(01:21):
you do choose to partake of this amazing Shock Innovations technology,
we'll put you in the drawing for a twenty five
dollars Shraw Innovations gift certificate, good for anything your heart
desires over at the service center. It's just been any
of the service centers, it's been insane. This is guys,
I have never seen anything like this. This is way
different than anything we have ever seen ever before in
(01:42):
any of the shops. You know, COVID was one of
those things where all of a sudden everybody wanted to
work from home or needed to, and everybody was sold
out of computers. We had banks calling us, like corporate
big banks like not like you know if you have
the you know, the Farmers and Merchants bank in your
small town.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
No, not that.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
This is like major branch banks calling us saying, hey,
we need fifty laptops. Do you have anything, and we're like, no,
we don't. In fact, they're like, what about anything used
and you're like really like, yeah, we got this deal
that we can get for this palette of ol five
year old Dell laptops. Should we get those?
Speaker 5 (02:21):
No?
Speaker 3 (02:22):
But wow, So, I mean that was nuts during COVID,
that was insane. This is way, way, way busier because apparently,
despite all of our warnings to not wait until the
last minute to buy a new computer for you to
replace your Windows ten PC, the vast majority of you
waited until the last minute. In fact, two days from now,
(02:42):
Windows ten dies. And so now everyone's coming in saying, hey,
you need a computer, and they're finding that, you know,
all of your reasonably priced normal person computers at the Mart,
at best Buy, you know, they're just they're not available,
they're sold out. You can still buy those big expensive
gaming computers if you want those, you know, most people
to you know, you've got Meryl and you have an
(03:04):
RTX fifty seventy in your computer. I mean, you're just
not using that kind of power, right. So at Shrock
we've been just i mean scouring to find the computers
that we need because of course, you know, we can't
sell you computers that we can't get. And normally it's
not a big deal, we put in our orders, we
get our computers. Everything is fine. This is the fourth
quarter almost here, so this is the this is our
(03:26):
time of year, guys. This is when we do you know,
half of our annual business in the fourth quarter. So
you know, we're we stepped up our order and we
did everything that we normally would do and a little
bit more.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Just in case.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
And it was nowhere near adequate. We're talking ten percent
of adequate. It's just been insane. So we have staffed up.
We've added a lot of new faces in the service centers.
You may have seen this if you've come into any
of the shops, if you've popped into the Omaha service center,
you've bam on the tops, which you know, if you
want me to sign them, you can pick them up
(03:58):
at the service center when we're done with them. That's
we can do that. In other nudes. Another news two
five h two is landed. So that big update for
Windows eleven did land about ten days ago, and that
update is oh no, twelve days ago. Now that update
is for the most part going over pretty well. There
(04:18):
are some exceptions to that. For example, some people after
installing Windows eleven two five h two are reporting that
they cannot play digital rights managed media anymore. This would
be if you're trying to watch TV shows on your computer,
if you're trying to watch any kind of licensed media
media that you have paid for that you own, the
(04:39):
digital rights management's not working quite right. There are some workarounds,
but they are Microsoft's trying to fix that. Also, a
live TV may not work if you have an actual
like TV tun or card in your computer, which is
you know, most people don't do that anymore with streaming,
but if you do, that may not work anymore. Also,
there are some file sharing issues, which again probably does
not impact most home users, but if you are on
(05:02):
a business on a business network, this can very much
impact your ability to share and work with files across
the network. Additionally, what we've noticed in the service center
is ironically Microsoft Surface tablets. These are Windows ARM devices
ARM processors. They're different than the processors in your desktop
and laptop computers. They're not getting two five h two
automatically right now. There is this whole special version of
(05:25):
two five h two that needs to be installed that
is a completely different piece of.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Software than what is provided through Safe Upgrade.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
So if you were trying to install Safe Upgrade on
a Windows ARM based device, a Microsoft Windows Surface tablet
for example, or a surface book, and you were having trouble.
This could very well be the reason why we do
have solutions for that in the service center that we
can help you out with over at the Shock desk,
which is great.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
What is safe Upgrade?
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Well, guys, this is that one rare time of year
where every single person that comes into the service center
for anything at all needs an upgrade to Windows eleven
two five h two. If you don't need this update,
that means you need to buy a new computer because
you're still running Windows ten and you have two days.
So everybody needs it now. Of course, a lot of
(06:10):
people are receiving it now because the rate of Microsoft
broadcasting this out and force installing it on computers. There
was no dancing around at this time. There was no no, no, no,
we'll roll it out slow. You're not it's not gonna
not a require download. You don't have to do it,
not yet. And then of course six months later it's like, nope,
you better do it now or your computer doesn't get
any more updates, and then we're gonna force it down
(06:32):
your throat. They're they're not even playing, they're not even
being you know, cheeky about it this time. It's just no,
you're gonna get it, and you're gonna get it as
soon as we believe your computer is ready to get it.
And of course they download the pieces of the update
to your computer, they don't download the entire update to
your machine. The entire update is seven point one gigabytes,
so I understand why they don't want to down theho
(06:53):
download the entire update. But they're trying to guess at
what parts your computer needs to function properly and just
give you those parts because I'm sure it's fine twenty
percent of the time. It's not fine this time. For
Safe Upgrade, we because of the size of the update.
You know, there was a couple of little glitchy things like,
for example, one screen, if you ran Safe Upgrade, you
saw the screen that said this should take about twenty minutes,
(07:15):
and it took about an hour. Well, like, we got
a lot of calls from people saying, hey, is it
locked up because it said twenty minutes, but it's been
an hour. It just a seven point one gig update.
When we first created Safe Upgrade, the updates were like
three gig. And then on top of that, the guys
that make the updates are are Shock interactive guys. They
have some boss machines, I mean, some amazing machines, and.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
So they're fast. They're very fast.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
So what takes them twenty minutes takes a normal computer
forty minutes, so and you want that when you're developing software,
but you shouldn't put your time estimates from your machine
in the code.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
To show customers.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
So we're going to get that stuff corrected for next
next go round, so we don't get so many support
calls on that. But you know, for the most part,
everybody was able to install it just fine.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
It was great.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
So if you did not get the update for two
five h two yet, it is not too late to
take control of the situation and get the entire update
installed in its entirety on your computer so that you
don't end up with any of the problems like some
of the things that I mentioned earlier. You can go
to Shrockcannovations dot com and go to shop and Specials
and you can find the safe upgrade. We have some
(08:21):
more licenses available now that many of our customers have installed,
so you can check that out there and purchase a
license for your Windows eleven device to get that updated.
Once again, I will say this very plainly, if you
have a Windows ten device, do not buy safe upgrade,
don't buy anything for that computer.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Kick it to the curb. It's time to replace it.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
Like now for zero, two, five, five, eight, eleven ten,
that's the number to join us on the program. So
I mentioned in new computers are super duper hot commodities
right now.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
So we are. We're moving them as fast as we can.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
Get them in and get them out, and get them built,
and get them to the service centers and get them
into your hands. If you're waiting on a new computer
right now, I appreciate your patients, I genuinely do. Don't
sweat it. We're gonna we're moving through them very fast.
We have, in fact, we have everything on order that
we need. Some of it's in the service center, some
of it's not, some of it's still on the way.
But as soon as it arrives, we're going to get
(09:13):
them into your hands. We might even get some some
of you who have been really, really patient, We got
some some nice surprise bonuses coming out just just some
nice things that we can do to I don't know,
make you feel good about your purchase, you know, just
the little extra stuff. Quick aside, here, there is no
aftershock today. This is normally something I would say for
the aftershock. But the lovely Kimberly and I were talking
(09:34):
yesterday and she she broke something down really really nicely.
She said, you know, why is it that companies don't
understand when you're losing marketing. We're talking about Disney and
they're raising their prices again for their tickets, and you're
pricing out, you know, middle income families from being able
to go. I mean the tickets. What up eighteen bucks?
So if eighteen bucks is the deciding factor of you
(09:56):
taking your kid to a Disney park, well, you know,
maybe maybe that's not.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
The right choice this year.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Maybe you should save for the eighteen dollars, save up
an extra eighteen bucks for next year. I'm just you know, so,
on one hand, I'm being a little tongue in cheek here.
I'm not trying to sound like elitist or anything. I'm
just saying it was an eighteen dollar price increase. So yes,
that's on one hundred dollars one hundred and fifty dollars
ticket eighteen dollars is a large percentage increase, and if
(10:23):
you do that every year, of course, you're going to
price out people in the middle class very very quickly.
The problem that I that we were talking about was
that when you go to Disney, now you're buying this
ticket and you're getting to ride one or two rides,
and you get to stand in line the rest of
the day unless you really know what you're doing, or
you're buying all the books and figuring out how the
theme park works, and you're buying all the speed passes
and everything else, but there's no all the extra stuff
(10:47):
like they used to have like a barbershop quartet that
would just walk around in Magic Kingdom and would just
pop upon a street corner and start singing. They used
to have characters in the hotel, like the people in
a Mickey outfit. Mickey Mouse would show up at the pool.
So your kids are out splashing in the pool and
all of a sudden, here comes Mickey in a in
a rubberized suit, gets in the pool with your kids.
(11:10):
That stuff just doesn't happen anymore, and she says, you
know why is it that companies can't figure out that.
If your company is in trouble, if you're failing, the
way to fix it is to go back in time,
go back to what you were doing before that worked,
Go back before COVID, do what worked. We don't have
(11:34):
to make everything app based and change everything and make
the whole world go round. We can make it work
the way it used to work. And it was such
a it was such like a uh kind of revelation, like,
oh my gosh, you could be a consultant, like this
is amazing to the last year. And we didn't even
know we were doing it. We were just getting back
to what we used to do before COVID.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
We carry out.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
Your computer when you're done it, when you come to
the service center they're supposed to. We're working to get
all the staff back to that where we carry your
computer out for you. Sometimes it's it's needed because you know,
sometimes we have elderly customers and sometimes it's just nice
to have someone carry your big, heavy computer out the
door for you and put it.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
In your car. It's kind of nice. Catalogs.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
I think we've had one catalog since COVID, and so
the holiday special catalog this year is a complete catalog.
It's got the holiday special in it, as well as
all of our other computers, all new photos, all new specs,
all new content. And this calendar's got some calendar. This
catalog has a little has a little spice, has a
(12:34):
little to it, which is kind of cool. It's kind
of like how we used to do it before. Everything
was like, I can't say that, can't offend people, can't
do that. If you want to have a catalog with
an innuendo in it, well then put one in your catalog.
Somebody is gonna read it and chuckle, and then they're
gonna read the rest of the catalog because it's kind
of interesting. It's kind of fun, right, So it's go
back to what you were doing before. And so at
(12:56):
Shruck we're going back to what we were doing before,
and our customers are loving it. And we appreciate the
fact that you guys choose to do business with us.
We appreciate the fact that you're willing to wait a
couple of days to get a computer rather than have
that immediate gratification, because you know, the systems that we're
building for you are better and they're they're they're unique,
(13:17):
they're different, they're not the box store solution. So I
appreciate your patients, I appreciate your business, and I just
wanted to take a moment to say thank you, thank
you for being patient with us while we figured out
that the way to to grow, the way to to
to become the leader in the field is to just
go back to what used to work and just start
doing that again.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
And it's fun. It's so fun.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
The we have some really exciting stuff coming up this
this fall in this winter at Trock that things we
haven't done in years. The last time we had an event,
like an event at Trock like you'd come to an
event was the Windows ten launch party. Windows ten we
had a launch party, or was it Windows seven when
it was the Windows seven long was I think it
(14:00):
was Windows seven that had a launch party. Yeah, that
was the last event that we did at Shock where
we had like snacks and fun stuff and door prizes
and things like that and people get to come and
just take a look and say hi and yo. So yeah,
I think it's time. I think it's time for zero two, five, five, eight,
eleven tens the number to join us on the program.
We're gonna take a quick break. Guys, we got a
lot coming up on the program. If you missed last
(14:22):
week's show, check it out Shock Innovations dot Com. Coming
up on the show here this week, we've got China
blacklisting a Canadian company for telling the truth about you know,
what's inside a Chinese microprocessor? AT and T is finally
upgrading there.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
What's inside? What's inside the cookie? At and T is
gonna upgrade your five G performance.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
Finally, it's gonna say. If you're an AT and T customer,
We've got some good news for you. They're not just
losing all your data to hackers. They're actually gonna give
you some better cell phone coverage as well. And also
coming up on the program, how to get Apple to literally,
honestly and for real pay you up to five million
dollars not a bad better than a Loto ticket.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
We'll tell you how to do it. Coming up next
on Compute this.
Speaker 6 (15:04):
Everyone has experienced some form of data loss or know
someone who has. It's unfortunate, but sometimes the technology we
rely on simply fails. And the last question you want
to hear at that time is you have a backup
right when you're a hard drive, memory card, backup drive
or flash drive fails, you turn to the data recovery
experts at Shrock Innovations to get those pictures, songs, and
(15:27):
memories back. You know, not all data recovery companies are
the same. Having the right tools and knowledge to get
the job done right on the first attempt makes all
the difference between a successful recovery and the permanent loss
of your important data. Sometimes you only get one shot
at a successful recovery. That's why Shrock has invested in
top of the line recovery imagers, a Class one hundred
(15:49):
clean environment, over ten thousand dollar components, and a staff
of recovery engineers that are the best in the business.
Shrock has a ninety six percent recovery rate getting data
back from failed to devices. When the unthinkable happens and
you need your data back, turn to the experts at
Shrock Innovations for professional and affordable data recovery services.
Speaker 5 (16:10):
Now you can configure and purchase laptops, desktops, tablets, and
more all at the Newshrock Innovations dot com. Check out
our specials for one of a kind discounts and deals.
Speaker 6 (16:20):
Laptops are subjected to some of the most stressful computing
situations imaginable. They get dropped, stepped on, slap shut, and
pushed until the battery dies. Sometimes your laptop works hard
for you, so when it has a problem, take it
to the laptop expert at Shrock Innovations. SHROC has four
convenience service centers in Nebraska and Iowa with more than
(16:41):
one hundred total bench spots to get your technology up
and running again. Shrock has the largest supply of replacement
components in stock and we fix more laptops than any
other nearby repair center. Why wait weeks to get your
computer fixed when Shrock can diagnose the problem, provide you
with a friendly and accurate estimate, and fix it usually
two days or less. Remember, if you have never been
(17:02):
into our service centers before, new customers get their first
hour of labor free. So the next time your laptop
screen gets cracked, the keys pop off your keyboard, or
your two year old decides a glass of milk is
exactly what your laptop needs to cool off, take it
to Shrock and let your local laptop repair experts get
it back in top shape again.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
All righty folks, welcome back. You're listening to compute this.
My name is Thor Schrock. I'm the owner of the
Shrock Innovations computer company. We have four locations to help
you out when your computer's having trouble, when you need
someplace to go to get that maintenance work done, or
maybe two five h two isn't working rider you're just
looking for a new computer because Windows ten does die
in two days. If that's the case, you can check
(17:49):
us out over at Shrock Innovations. The og Shrock is
in Lincoln, Nebraska, the original that's where it all started
gosh twenty almost twenty seven years ago. Now you can
find us just south of fourteenth and Pine Lake Road
in Omaha, one hundred and sixty eighth and Burke Street,
across the street from the Village Point shopping Center. In Papillion,
we're at eighty fourth and Highway three seventy in the
(18:11):
Midlands Place shopping Center, and in West Des Moines, Iowa
ninety five hundred University Avenue. So good stuff happening over
at all the locations. Guys were there to help you
out as far as turnaround times go. The Omaha Service
Center is the busiest of the service centers right now.
They are on a multi day QUEU right now, so
they do have some work stacked up on them. They're
moving through it quick, but it's still stacked up a
(18:32):
little bit in there.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
The other service centers Papillion.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
Papillion is not on a I think they have open
bench spots actually, so if you were needing something turned quickly,
the Papillion service center can get you flipped over real
quick there. Lincoln is also not in a queue right now,
and Des Moines also has available bench spots. So all
the shops are doing really well post the two to
five h two update, keeping everything going well for you.
So a funny thing. There was a story that I
(18:57):
saw this week about China black listing a Canadian company
for telling the truth, and I thought, this is a
this is a really weird story. So this Canadian research firm,
what they do is they they basically look at different
products that are made by companies and then they disassemble
those products and they they inspect them down to the
chip level to see what makes them tick, what, what's what,
(19:21):
Where do the parts come from, what kind of parts
are they? Is it what the manufacturer says it is?
And so essentially they're a Catech research firm, and so
Huahwei is a Chinese company that makes cell phones, tablets, notebooks,
you know, consumer electronics. And Huawei is a competitor with Apple.
They're a competitor with you know, a SEUs that makes
the laptops. Uh, they're they're a competitor with the Android phones,
(19:44):
you know, Google. So basically they're in the mix. They're
in the mix. There something that's really interesting right now.
What I'm seeing online are videos being posted from Chinese
social media sites of people. So two people at the
same time of day will go one will go to
an Apple store and one will go to a Wallway store,
and they will both film video at the stores. And
(20:07):
if you look at the video for the Wahwey store,
there might be one person or two people in the store.
If you look at the video for the Apple store,
it is a bustling, lively business of people buying new devices,
getting their data transferred, getting support and lessons on how
to use their devices American style support. Essentially at the
(20:30):
Wahwei store, what's happening is the devices are failing. They
have a fold phone, very much like my Samsung Galaxy Fold,
but the screen goes like bars and stripes, and you know,
just goes bad. And so you take it in because, hey,
I just bought this phone a month ago for like,
you know, a thousand dollars and it's bad, and they say, oh,
you must have broken the screen. You're like, no, I look,
(20:50):
there's no physical damage. There's nothing, just a bad screen.
We're not going to replace that for you. And so
customer of course gets upset, goes on social media and
posts they post a video, this is what I bought,
this is a month ago. Is so much I paid
for it? This is the video of the person saying
they're not going to help me. I was filming it.
So Huawei calls the Chinese police, and the police show
(21:14):
up at your house and give you some important life
choices to think about, and you pull the video down.
That's literally that's what's happening to customer service complaints in
China right now. Could you imagine meanwhile at the Apple store,
everything is sunny and happy, and on social media you're
(21:34):
having Chinese citizens posting, don't buy these Chinese made domestic smartphones,
their garbage. Buy the good American phones. And people are
actually speaking with their money and buying the good American phones.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
It's crazy.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
So part of the whole problem here is that China
has of course been cut off from a lot of chips.
And what a lot of people may not have heard
yet because it has not been widely reported in the news,
there's something going on behind the scenes with China right now.
They stopped buying ag products a couple of weeks ago.
They have ratchet up pressures on rare earth, not just
(22:09):
against the United States but against pretty much all Western countries.
And so Donald Trump responded on Friday, after the close
of the markets, on a log holiday weekend, and slept
on one additional tariff on China on everything coming out
of China, and he made the point, for every one
critical thing that China has that we need, there are
(22:30):
two things that we have that they need. So, as
they say in academia, faffo. So yeah, that was the
that was the message. And of course markets overnight, just
the future's markets are in the so I put in
a bunch of buy orders because this is what they
call the taco trade, they called the Trump always chickens
(22:51):
out trade. And so eventually he'll say, oh no, it's
not really one hundred percent tariffs. It's only fifteen and
then all of a sudden everything goes back up again
and you make a lot of money. So yay, trade
the tacos. But I'm digress. These Huawei phones that are
coming out now. Apple's iPhone seventeen has a three nanometer processor.
(23:12):
That's the thickness of the chip. Why is that important.
The lower the number of nanometers, the more efficient the
chip is, the less energy it takes, the less energy
it wastes to heat. So the chips going into Huawei
phones are seven nanometer chips, so they're more than double
the size. They're the same chips essentially that we had
in our phones two years ago, three years ago. And
(23:33):
as a result, they're saying, these Chinese companies are saying
these phones keep up, that they do as good as
the American phones, but on its face, they just can't.
And so this company, the Canadian company, goes and tears
down this phone and takes the processors out of it,
and they open up the processors to see what makes
up this processor. And you know what they found. Banned
(23:55):
Samsung components that China was not supposed to have access to,
Banned Ta s MC components that China was not supposed
to have access to and banned Heine's memory components, which
China is not supposed to have access to in mass anyway.
So what this illustrates is that China is either very
very good at stockpiling things when they did have access,
(24:16):
they bought so much that they can make, you know,
two year old processors all day long and not worry
about it, or they have a way of getting around
the sanctions to get the components they need to make
products that can hang but that are not competitive, but
they but they can they can appear to be competitive
under certain circumstances. So it's just an interesting thing when
(24:37):
you when you hear about the the chips that that
they tore the device, the device was not a phone
that this Canadian company tore down. The chip that they
tore down was China's AI processor. This was the the
ninth the Ascend nine ten C processor, which is designed
to compete with Nvidia's latest AI chain. So when you hear,
(25:02):
you know, China's got the lead in the AI race.
If all of China's chips require double the power that
American chips require, yes, China has a lot more power
than we do right now. We're fixing that quickly. But
we have two things working for us. We're getting more
power online and the chips that we're using to do
AI are becoming more efficient every year. At China, they're
(25:26):
bringing more power online, and it's like, you know, like
the Russians just send like meat waves, you know, of soldiers.
That's like the how Russian fights wars. You know, Sometimes
what does it? They say that sometimes quantity has a
quality all its own.
Speaker 4 (25:39):
Yeah, that's what Stalin said.
Speaker 3 (25:40):
Yeah, China's doing the same thing with microprocessors. You know,
it doesn't matter if they're they're fat, they're thick, they're thin,
they're energy efficient or not. We just need to make
more of them and make them do crazy things. And
if we put enough of these junkie processors together, we
can make something that looks like what Nvidia can do
with half the energy and two year newer equipment. So
when you start hearing all these things in the news
(26:00):
about you know, China's catching up or China's beating us
in the AI race, just remember that in a moment
in time, China might be able to surpass us in
one way or surpass us in another. Perhaps with a
bit of clever programming, they can make a new kind
of AI chatbot that that steals all the work that
the American companies did, but repurposes it to make it
look like it's a it's a new and innovative device.
(26:23):
I'm talking about deep Seek. They can win from time
to time in a short race, but in the marathon race,
that is an industrial development race. China is still a
third world country and they are not going to win
that race. For zero two, five, five, eight, eleven, tens
and number to join us on the program, David, Welcome
to the show. How can I help you on compute this?
Speaker 7 (26:44):
Hey, good morning morning. First, I had a suggestion because
you just you ask for the break and you had
talked about You actually said calendar, And I thought to myself,
why don't you put together a calendar.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
What would we put in the calendar?
Speaker 7 (27:08):
I'm not saying computers.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
What would we put in the calendar? Would it be
like old computers?
Speaker 7 (27:13):
Well, I'm saying I wouldn't say you have to like
a beefcake calendar like snap on or something.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
But you could put either you know, which would be
the technicians of shrock.
Speaker 7 (27:25):
Yeah, or you know a cheesecake or whatever. But no,
you wouldn't have to do that because that's just kind
of like snap Bond's already done that. So so no,
And I know, technology it's so fast that you wouldn't
want to put like, you know, here's this computer of
the month and this computer of the month because our device,
(27:51):
because things move so rapidly. But I just think a
lot of people still like things that are canable. Calendar. Yeah,
and but I mean you could highlight texts or some
of your maybe highlight interesting things, texts from the past,
(28:13):
technology from the past. But I think, okay, calendar. But
if you did do a weird, geeky themed calendar, it
could go viral and could buy you, guys a lot
of national publist.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
I will get to love that. Kimberly working on that,
and I'll see what she I'll see what she thinks
about that. But thank you for the call, David. That's
that's you know, I did speak and say calendar, and
then I'm like, you know, that's ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Why would we have a calendar?
Speaker 4 (28:42):
Get a picture with Mo with his sword.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
Yeah, we have medieval mma fighters that work for us.
We've got retired cage fighters that work for us. You
know we've got I mean, we got all kinds of
interesting people that work for us.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
Who knows, maybe maybe you know we we have Yeah?
Speaker 4 (29:03):
Yeah, does my rate go up if I do the
month of May?
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Yeah, in the month of May. Oh my gosh, this
is not gonna go anywhere.
Speaker 6 (29:10):
Good.
Speaker 3 (29:11):
I'm just gonna We're just gonna nip this conversation right now.
Four zero, two, five, five, eight eleven to ive will
get in so much trouble. Uh, okay, quick aside, we
will relate for a break. Let's take a break. When
we come back, I will tell you the lovely Kimberly
actually has a new project that maybe we could make
into a calendar. So we'll go over that. I'm having
some ideas. Now we'll see, we'll see what she thinks
(29:31):
of it. We'll tell you about it coming up next
on compute this.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
Remember the good old days when virus detection worked like
where's Waldo? Spot the virus and a striped shirt and
you win. Today's infections are changing hourly to avoid detection
and use social engineering to trick you into making mistakes.
Using yesterday's security to defend against today's threats is like
using leeches to stop an infection, it just doesn't work.
(29:56):
We recommend SOFOS intercept X anti virus backed by Shocks
virus free guarantee. SOFOS uses the power of AI to
detect the patterns of a virus attack and responds with
Shock's custom actions that stop it fast. With SOFOS on
your PC, Mac, Android, or iOS device, you get the
state of the art protection you need to defend against
(30:18):
the most advanced attacks out there. In fact, if your
device gets a virus while running sofos antivirus, Shock will
remove it for free, guaranteed it hasn't happened yet and
we intend to keep it that way. Ditch your dad's
anti virus and keep your device, data, and identities safe
with Sofos and Shock innovations.
Speaker 5 (30:38):
Today's fragile computers need maintenance more than ever. Your computer
needs a maintenance check up every six months to last
beyond it's eighteen month expected lifespan.
Speaker 6 (30:46):
You know your computer needs modern anti virus, and you
know using a VPN helps protect your identity online, But
did you know that all of that protection could be
useless if you're running outdated programs. We all run common
free software like a dope reader, Dropbox, Firefox, and Chrome.
Every day there are critical security updates for these common
programs that don't get automatically installed for up to two weeks.
(31:10):
That's an eternity in today's world. That's why Shock created
Secure updator. Secure Update checks for and installs these critical
updates every eight hours, boosting your antivirus by closing off
attack vectors before they can be used to penetrate your computer.
Go to secure updater dot com and try it for free.
We are so confident in our product we don't even
(31:31):

Speaker 3 (32:08):
Welcome back in folks. You're listening to compute this my
name is Thor Schrock. I'm the owner of the Shrock
Innovations computer company. Four zero two, five five eight eleven
ten is the number to join us on the program.
If you have not already done so, it is now
past time to run your two to five h two
Safe Upgrade software. The Windows eleven two five h two
update was released about twelve days ago and is for
(32:30):
the most part, you know, working well. There are some
issues that some people are experiencing. I illustrated some of
those in the beginning of the program if you haven't
done through shock. Though most of the time those issues
are not a problem. The installation is going very smoothly.
It is taking a little bit of time because it's
a seven gigabyte update, so it takes an hour to
an hour and a half total including download time and
everything to get the update to run and unpack and
(32:52):
verify and all that jazz. But essentially it's time if
you haven't done that. If you have a Windows eleven
computer and you have not purchased copy of Safe Upgrade yet.
Because the licenses were sold out, there are now licenses
available again because customers have used their licenses and so
now we can make them available again. The reason for
the limitation on licenses was a support limitation. If something
(33:13):
went terribly sideways. We didn't want to get ourselves in
a position where we could not provide support to everybody.
So there we go for zero two, five, five, eight,
eleven ten.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
So a quick thing.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
The Lovely Kimberly is building herself a desktop computer. She
has never had her own desktop computer before. She's always
had laptops, the powerful laptops. If you don't know, the
Lovely Kimberly is responsible for everything that looks lovely at Shrock.
The new front end of the Omaha Service Center, that's
the Lovely Kimberly. The catalogs, that's her. The postcards when
you buy a new computer that say welcome and tell
(33:46):
you how to you know all about what you're getting,
that's her. Everything that looks good about our company is her.
If it was me, there'd be like word documents with
like red and blue font I mean, it'd be I
used to have those for the Lovely Kimberly. So you know,
essentially she's building a desktop computer. But of course it's
(34:06):
gonna look lovely.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
And so.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
We were joking last night because she's I mean she's
going all out. She's diving down the rabbit hole. She
had the TikTok open.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
She was going through. My wife was watching people build
computers yesterday on TikTok.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
Not because she was curious about, you know, how to
put it together or whatever, because she wants to build
it herself, and she's never built a single computer in
her life. But she wanted to see all the different chords.
She found PCI slot covers that have led lights in
them so that you can see them glowing inside your
computer case. Now, I'm like, that's an extreme example of stuff.
(34:40):
But you know, she doesn't want the big rainbow lights
and everything else. She wants lights in there, but she
wants them to be like crisp and clean and attractive.
And she's getting a case it's got like wooden accents
on it. She's getting a keyboard it's like a graphite
color with a wooden custom made palm rest. I'm like,
(35:01):
like an oak palm rest essentially with a with a
custom logo branded in the corner of it. She's just
I'm really going crazy now. This computer, of course, is
ridiculously expensive because she's doing a lot of Adobe stuff
and anyone who works with Adobe nos that those programs
are hogs, but it got me kind of. We were
joking about it. We're like the new Lovely line from Shock,
(35:21):
and it was like, no, maybe we could just make
it like an upgrade, like would you like to Lovely
size your computer? You know where we just basically take
all the stuff that guys think looks cool and take
it out and then put all the Lovely Kimberly's ideas
in place and make it look beautiful.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
You know.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Then I got to thinking about it, and I'm like,
is that such a bad idea? And then you know,
the guys have been honest to create a gaming line
for a long time, but we don't have that many
gaming customers. But then again, where do you go locally
to buy a gaming computer?
Speaker 2 (35:48):
You can't? So hmm, what if? What if? Hmm?
Speaker 3 (35:54):
So, if any of those ideas sound interesting to you,
I would love to hear from you for zero two, five, five,
eight eleven ten. Tell me if they're good ideas, if
they think they're cool, and if you think they're cool,
then we'll explore more. If you think we need a calendar,
maybe we could put like different months of the calendar.
This is nvm E month. This is the lovely Kimberly
installing MVMES and she could be our calendar model, you see,
and I'm sure that she'd be fine with that for
(36:15):
zero twould be a lovely calendar for zero, two, five, five, eight, eleven, ten.
All right, so let's jump back into the phones, John,
how can I help you today on compute this?
Speaker 8 (36:24):
Hey? Hi, so we're miss had a general question for Shrock.
I have some Skylike processors. They are Intel sixty seven hundred,
but they're a secure boot. If I brought those two,
you can can Because I happen to be blind, so
it's impossible for me to access bios.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
Gotcha.
Speaker 8 (36:42):
But if I brought those two, you can someone on
your team go into bios and disable secure boot so
I can run Windows seven on them.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
Oh yeah, absolutely, I mean that's that's not a problem
at all. We can we can get the uh I
see what you're saying. You updated the bios to the
current bios.
Speaker 8 (36:57):
And as part of the well by a brand new,
brand new HP until sixty seven hundred their skyl like
and they're automatically you know, they came that way with
the secure boot enabled. Right, But if I if that
was disabled, I've had already have a drive sky like
Windows seven drives if they boot right up. But like
(37:17):
I said, I happen to be blind. I can't do
that myself. Well, would your company provide that service?
Speaker 2 (37:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (37:23):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (37:23):
In fact, John, if you've never been in to see
us before, one of the things that you know, we
don't talk about it a ton, and I should probably
talk about it more is that new customers at Shock
get their first hour of labor free of charge. So
if you've never if you've never been in for anything before,
which is highly likely, then when you come in, just
let us know you're a new customer. Say I want
the new customer coupon. You have to ask for it.
(37:44):
It's an honor do not offer, so you have to
ask for it. But when you ask for it, that'll
get you your first hour free. And updating a BIOS
on your motherboard easily easily done in an hour. So
they changing BIOS settings, that's not not difficult to do.
Speaker 8 (37:58):
I appreciate that I tuned into the show. Oh and
you know anything that needs to secure things, I'm already
Windows eleven and all that, but these are legacy programs
they make my recording. Sup, we're talked to me. That's right,
there's my motive about Windows seven. So so I appreciate it. Man,
you answer my question. I'll just come over.
Speaker 4 (38:15):
All right.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Sounds good, John, Thank you. We'll look forward to see.
Speaker 8 (38:17):
How con Yeah, thank you.
Speaker 3 (38:19):
I have a great day. For zero, two, five, five, eight,
eleven ten. You can get entered in that drawing for
a twenty five dollars Shock Innovations gift certificate as well.
So if you have AT and T cell phone service,
I have some good news for you. AT and T
is doing a major five G upgrade nationwide on their network.
They're not doing it everywhere at the same time, so
it might take a little time for it to roll out.
(38:40):
We're what you call it the Omaha des moin area
where a C market, so like a market is New York, right,
B market is Chicago. Yeah, we're a C market Omaha
des Moines things like that, so we get things a
little bit later than some of the other people do.
But essentially AT and T is very very far behind.
So to give you an idea the update that AT
(39:01):
and T is doing to their network right now. T
Mobile did to their network in twenty twenty, and if
you recall, that's before T Mobile acquired Sprint, so that
was when T Mobile was just like the Magenta cell
phone company that Gen Z Kids used for prepaid phones,
and their network was upgraded with this new five G
(39:23):
technology in twenty twenty. So essentially what's going on right
now is AT and T has all of their cell
phone towers running four G and five G equipment, but
to get to the five G you have to pass
through the four G. So to authenticate, you have to
go through the four G, which causes the speed of
your Internet connection on your five G device. While it
(39:45):
is faster than four G, it causes it to have
a bottleneck to be slower. So that's why when you
look at nationwide measurements of who has the fastest wireless broadband,
AT and T has always last because they have that
four G handicap that slows down the authentication of the
five G service. Getting rid of that now and it's
going to allow them to do something else that T
(40:06):
Mobile started doing in twenty twenty four or twenty twenty three,
excuse me, twenty twenty three, which is called network slicing. Now,
network slicing is kind of cool because it allows them
to take a segment of the network and set it aside.
You might recall there was a big story that came
out of at New York where they found a SIM
card farm with like millions of SIM cards activated in
(40:28):
devices that what if and it was turns out it
was funded by China. If all of those SIM cards
made cell phone calls at the same time, they could
effectively perform a denial of service attack on the cell
phone network. So your call could not go through because
millions of fake calls were going through instead, and it
would just overwhelm the ability of the towers to process
(40:48):
the calls.
Speaker 4 (40:49):
Well.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
Network slicing allows the network, I should say, to reserve
a portion of the network for ext sample first responders.
So this, you know, five percent of the network is
reserved only for first responders. So even if the rest
of the network is completely jamm packed with calls, this
five percent of bandwidth is reserved, and that way first
(41:13):
responders will be able to get through and make the
calls they need.
Speaker 2 (41:15):
To make to get dispatched and do the things they
need to do.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
People can still call nine one one, for example, because
there's a five percent reserved network slice for that, and
so even in the event of a denial of service attack,
which you would think would be paired with some kind
of terrorist attack or something, you know, something that would
cause a mass casualty event, then the network to sell
network goes down. You can't get help, there's confusion, there's chaos. Well,
in the middle of all that confusion and chaos, T
(41:40):
Mobile and Verizon would have a slice of the network
available for first responders, and now AT and T will
have that available as well. So a lot of what
is AT and T service. If you have AT and T,
chances are you have an Apple Watch. A lot of
people on Apple Watches use AT and T. If you
have cell service in your car, if you have a
hot spot in your car, chances are it's an AT
(42:02):
and T hotspot. So you're going to see a lot
of improvement in hotspot performance, in the speed of connectivity
for your devices like watches, things like that that are
connecting to the Internet through a cellular signal but aren't
necessarily a phone, and of course on your mobile devices,
you're going to see a much faster Internet speed from
AT and T. As these network upgrades move through all
(42:24):
the different markets, so we have to wait a little
bit here in the Midwest to get it. But when
it does arrive, if you're on AT and T, you're
going to get a pretty significant increase in performance and
you'll be in the same realm as everybody else, which
is kind of cool. Four zero, two, five, five, eight
to eleven ten. We're going to take our final break
of the program here, guys. When we come back, we're
going to tell you how you can get Apple to
(42:45):
pay you up to that's up to up to five
million dollars, not necessarily all five million. You have to
do a lot to get five million. You have to
solve two different problems to get five million, But if
you'd solve one problem, you can get two million. And
I mean, I don't know about you, but I'm okay
with that. I'm not greedy. My dad had a saying
(43:06):
when we would sell things, and I'd say, Dad, you
could have sold that for more. We did a lot
of flea markets and stuff when I was a kid,
and you could have sold that for more dad. And
my dad would look at me and he said, well, son,
you know I got mine out of it, so let
somebody else get theirs. And it was a good philosophy.
But yeah, so I don't need all five million. My
dad he taught me that two million is just fine.
We'll tell you how to earn it. Coming up next
(43:27):
on compute this.
Speaker 6 (43:28):
There are enough unused computers in storage to give every man,
woman and child in the US, and old, outdated and
useless computer system obsolete tablets and smartphones are nearly as bad.
Most people know not to throw them into the landfill
where they leak and contaminate, but it's hard to find
a place to safely recycle electronics. That's why Shrock Innovations
(43:48):
offers free recycling for computers, laptops, phones, tablets, cords, and accessories.
In fact, only monitors and printers have a small recycling fee.
Everything else is free. Importantly, Shock will securely delete any
data from your devices and hard drives before they are
sent to a certified recycling partner, who will then repeat
the wiping process just to be saved. When you recycle
(44:11):
your old technology at Shrock, you know your identity and
privacy are protected and your equipment is being actually recycled
by a certified recycling partner. Shock is proud to recycle
more e waste than we produce annually, making a positive
difference to our economy and ecology. Do your part by
dropping your old gear at any Shock service center and
(44:32):
be part of the area's largest and most popular technology
recycling program wis Shrock Innovations.

Speaker 6 (44:49):
You would probably rather drink the water at Camp La
June than get another call about the desperate need to
renew your cars expiring warranty. Who actually responds to those calls.
Everyone wants to play the warranty game where you pay
money now just in case you need service later that
everyone hopes you won't meet or use. It's such a waste.
It's no different with computers. Major manufacturers warranties have more
(45:12):
subscript crosses than a Sunday morning church service. Batteries are exempt.
Hard drites must be completely dead and forget about anything
that they can remotely claim us physical damage. That's why
Shrock warranties are different. When you purchase a modular PC
or a solid state laptop and extend your warranty. We
offer a no risk money back guarantee. If you need
(45:33):
the warranty, you will be thrilled to have it. If
you don't use it, and we refund your money automatically
every time. That's right. We are so confident in the
quality of our products that our extended warranties are refundable.
Many Shock customers use their refunds to purchase another warranty
or pocket the savings and move on. We all know
you'll need it to cover that expiring car warranty anyway.
(45:55):
Shocks refundable extended warranties just another way the Shrock Innovations
computer company. He makes your computer work for you.
Speaker 5 (46:02):
If you can dream it, Shock Interactives website developers.
Speaker 2 (46:05):
Can make it happen.
Speaker 5 (46:07):
Refresh your website, automate sales and marketing, and grow your
business today with Shock Interactive.
Speaker 3 (46:18):
All right, folks, thanks for sticking with us through the hour.
Here today you're listening to compute this. I appreciate you
being here. I appreciate your business in the service centers,
whether you're in Omaha, Lincoln Papilion or West of Moines,
whether you are a consumer using Shrock Innovations, which it
seems like more and more and more and more and
more nobody wants to help consumers anymore with their computer problems.
(46:41):
It's like everybody just expects, you know, everyday people to
just know how to do everything with their computer. And
you know, there are times guys that the lovely Kimberly says, hey,
how do you do this that or the other?
Speaker 2 (46:52):
And I'm like, you know, I honestly don't know. I
have to look it up.
Speaker 3 (46:55):
Even people in the business don't know how to do
everything off the top of their head. How can you
expect somebody, you know, For example, now, if you buy
a new printer, if you ever buy any new printer
ever again in your life, I hope you have a
smartphone because you cannot set up your new printer unless
you also have a smartphone, because you have to install
(47:17):
an app on your phone, and the app is what
gets the printer on the network in your house. So yeah,
even if you're installing it with a wire, you still
need to have a smartphone because you have to install
it with an app. And so we have customers that
literally call us to come do a printer install for
them in their home because they have a flip phone
and they don't do apps.
Speaker 2 (47:40):
There's still people out there like that, believe it or not.
Speaker 3 (47:43):
So yeah, it's insane that nobody wants to help people anymore.
And you know that's our bread and butter, guys. That's
where we started. That's why we started. Back in the day.
Shrock Innovations was started twenty almost twenty seven years ago
because I had a bad service experience with a computer
services provider. As somebody who was who at the time
thought I was, you know, pretty hot stuff. I didn't
(48:04):
know anything back then, still don't know a lot, but
I knew I was being treated poorly by It was
computer renaissance back in the day. It was a franchise
that did computer store where you can go buy parts
and do things like that.
Speaker 2 (48:18):
And I always knew I wanted to start a business.
I just never knew what business.
Speaker 3 (48:22):
I needed an idea, right, and the idea was, why
don't we do what all these other computer businesses are doing.
But in the process of doing it, let's not make
people feel stupid. It doesn't matter how much I know
as a technician or how much my people know. Our
job is to tell you what you need to know
and be a resource for you, and you know, maybe
(48:45):
you want to learn it, and we'll teach you if
you do, and if you don't want to learn it,
we'll just do it for you. I mean, it doesn't matter.
That's what we're here for. That's what we do. I
say it all the time on the phone. People thank
you so much. I'm like, hey, this is what we do.
This is no big deal. This is a Tuesday afternoon,
not a problem we got. You know, why do people
have to feel stupid after you? You know, why do
you need to feel superior I guess, you know, over
(49:06):
over another person because you know something they don't know.
It doesn't It doesn't make any.
Speaker 2 (49:10):
Sense to me. Do plumbers do that? Do electricians do that?
Why do computer guys do that? Right?
Speaker 3 (49:16):
Other people in trades don't do that. And then after
you buy your device, when you go home, everybody doesn't
care about you anymore. They care a lot about you
when they're trying to get you to open that wallet.
But once you open the wallet and when you make
the transaction, well, now, don't don't bother me unless you're
gonna open the wallet again. I don't want to hear
(49:36):
from you. And the idea of what if you had
a relationship with this person. And when I say relationship,
I mean like a professional relationship, not like a calendar relationship.
You know, we're not giving you calendars and things here.
This is not No, you can't be the month of Majing. Nope, Bill,
you can't do that.
Speaker 4 (49:56):
We'll talk about it off here.
Speaker 2 (49:58):
It's gonna what if what if?
Speaker 9 (50:01):
What if it's like I've been working out thor you know, yeah,
put my armor on, just the tops of the bottoms
which half oh golly, So see, I told you the
calendar thing wasn't going to go anywhere good.
Speaker 2 (50:13):
So you know we're not going to give away calendars,
you know.
Speaker 3 (50:15):
But when I say a relationship, I mean you have
somebody that you can call, that you trust, that is
not going to make you feel dumb, that is going
to help you. And of course there's a line where
after at some point we have to be paid for
our time. But yeah, if we can solve it in
two minutes or less, just call us. We'll solve your problem.
I don't care if you're a customer or not. We're
not going to open a work order. We're not going
to ask you for your credit card.
Speaker 2 (50:36):
Number.
Speaker 3 (50:37):
If we can solve your problem in two minutes or less,
we just do it. That's how we've always done it
since before COVID, and that's how we still do it today.
And that's one of the reasons why we've been here
for twenty seven years. When Computer Renaissance is gone, comp USA,
they're gone. I mean, I won't name all the other guys.
(50:57):
I don't feel I don't feel good about companies going away,
you know, I don't. I don't know have it like that,
especially when you own a company. It's kind of like,
you know, I don't. I don't cheer when that happens
because I could imagine how terrible that would be. But
there's untold number of small independent shingles that have been
put up by people that are gone now because they
just couldn't do it. They could not meet that that
(51:19):
level of demand. And so whether you're a business customer
or consumer customer, we love having you at Shrock and
I appreciate you being here now because I appreciate you
being here, and I do want you to open those wallets.
We need to put some green in the wallet, right,
So here's how you can get between two and five
million dollars from the Apple Computer Company. Ah right, And no,
(51:41):
it's not one of those class action things where you
have to fill out the postcard and you might get
like a dollar twenty five check.
Speaker 2 (51:46):
Don't you love those?
Speaker 8 (51:47):
You know?
Speaker 3 (51:47):
The last one that I had was the MasterCard class
action lawsuit, and we're supposed to, you know, get tens
of thousands of dollars for that. We'll see, we'll see
what happens there. But anyway, Apple's bug bounty program has
been doubled or even quadrupled in some cases. So all
you have to do is have an Apple device, find
some security flaw in that device that you can exploit
(52:11):
that they get you around, they get to round security,
you know, figure out a way to unlock that facial
recognition without actually using your face, and then document it
and privately tell Apple about it. That the private parts important.
And then if you solve the if you find a
bug and they confirm your bug, they will pay you
a bounty for finding the bug, and the bounty start
(52:33):
at two million dollars. Because Apple wants to have the
most secure platform they can possibly have for their customers.
And how they do that is they have really smart
tech guys try to break their stuff, try to hack
into it, how to crack into it, and if they can,
they make the bounty financially rewarding enough that you wouldn't say, well,
(52:55):
maybe we'll just put out a shingle and say we
crack iPhones from them. If you need to government, if
you need to get into a phone, let us know
we can get you in.
Speaker 2 (53:03):
I won't do that.
Speaker 3 (53:03):
I'll just tell Apple about the problem and get paid
two million dollars. That's a way better deal, easier return
on investment.
Speaker 2 (53:10):
So that's all you got to do.
Speaker 3 (53:11):
Guys, figure out a loophole in the Apple phone, and
you can get between two and five million dollars for
letting Apple know about it. David, congratulations, you're the winner
of the twenty five dollars Shock Innovations gift certificate. We'll
get Madison will get a hold of you on Monday
to get that certificate into your Shock account. No after
Shock today, after the program, so I'll be back with
that again next week. And in the meantime, guys, I
(53:36):
would recommend you'd come in and get a new computer
sooner rather than later, especially if you're on Windows time.
And we'll see you all again next weekend for another
edition of Compute This
