Speaker 1 (00:01):
Shrock Innovations presents the midwest number one independent computer repair
company with service centers and Lincoln Pall Maha, Papillion, des Moines,
and across the country via the Shrock Desk. This is
Compute This.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Good morning, folks, and welcome into Compute this. My name's
Thor Schrock. I'm the owner of the Shrock Innovations computer Company.
A little punch drug this morning. Actually didn't get a
ton of sleep last night, only about four hours of sleep,
and I'm feeling it this morning. I'm feeling a little
i don't know, unbalanced here like so that that's a
great thing to do. Put a guy in front of
a microphone when he's feeling a little little wonky. So, uh, Bill,
(00:38):
if you would please keep your finger on that delay
dump button so if I start saying stupid stuff, you
can just shut me up.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
That's a big yellow button right there.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
You had that big yellow button that says only press
when Thor says dumb stuff.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
YEP, I see it right there, got my finger on it.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Oh my gosh. All right, Well, welcome in guys. We
got a great show planned for you today. If you
missed last week's program, you can check that out. Over
at Shrockannovations dot com. You can all kinds of stuff
on the website. You can shop for computers there, you
can you can configure computers there as well. A lot
of people don't realize that it's not just like a
Nebraska Furniture Mark kind of thing where you add it
to your cart and check out, but you can fully
(01:12):
customize your computer on the website. You can change the
size of the hard drive or the memory. You can
add backup drives, you can change the operating system to
the pro version. You can add Microsoft Office. Anything you
can do in the service center for the most part,
you can do on the website at shrocinnovations dot com.
You can also listen to all the previous radio shows there.
Just click on the radio show button and you can
(01:32):
see everything that's going on there. Last week on the program,
if you missed the show, we talked a little bit
more about China blacklisting some companies that were selling some chips.
We touched on the two five H two update, which
is still permeating its way through the fiber of the universe,
(01:53):
if you will, and AT and T finally updated their
cellular five G network and we told you how you
can get Apple to you know, we give you five million,
so fun stuff there. It was a good show. You
can check it out Shrock Innovations dot com. Of course,
you can listen to the show right now live at
Facebook dot com slash Shrock Innovations. Where we are live
Facebook dot com slash Shrock Innovations the show here on Facebook.
(02:15):
A lot of people comment in the in the comments
on the side, I try to take care of those
during the commercial break and answer any of them that
I can. Quick program note, this is going to be
super popular, but there is no after Shock today. And yes,
I know it's been three weeks and I apologize for that,
but I am needed in the service centers after the
show today to do some tech work to make sure
our turnaround times are as you know, as good as
(02:35):
we can make them. Right now, we are incredibly busy,
busier than I think we've were busier than a normal
busy season, and we haven't hit busy season yet, so
that's that's pretty crazy. And we have twelve open positions
in the company right now. So everything from if you're
interested in working for Shock or getting a job in it,
whether that's directly on the bench, doing it work for consumers,
(02:59):
whether that's in the field, doing it work for businesses
in a managed service provider capacity, whether that's selling it
work as a sales manager or a salesperson, whether that's
being a front desk and helping customers in and out
the front door with their computers. We've got it all
available at Shrock right now. Check us out on Indeed.
You can go to search for Shrock sc chro o
(03:20):
ck on Indeed and you'll we'll pop right up on there.
You can see all the open positions we have and
you can apply for any that you might be interested in.
If you're a good person, we'd love to have you
in the company. So we'd love to have you over
at Shrock Innovations. Check that out now. Also coming up
on the program today, we've got some news from around
the shops this week. I'm going to tell you what's
(03:41):
going on with Lincoln and the recovery there, with everything
that happened. If you haven't heard about that, I'll fill
you in there. Also, why this occurs to me. I
had a customer yesterday give us a call and say
I want to buy an Intrepid and we went through
the configuration, We did all the stuff over the phone,
got it all lined up for him. He's going to
come into take care of it on Monday. But during
(04:02):
the process of doing that, I'm sitting here and thinking
to myself, this is such a different process than if
you went to a box store to buy a computer,
or if you went to the mart to buy a computer,
or if you even went to Dell dot com to
buy a computer that is quote unquote custom from their website.
This is a completely different experience. And you know, why
is that? What are we doing that's so different? And
(04:24):
why don't I ever talk about this on the radio?
Because this is literally our competitive advantage. This is this
is what makes us us, This is what makes shock shocky.
You know, we need to talk about this, and so
I'm gonna mention we're gonna talk a little bit about
the things that we do. When you're looking. A lot
of you are looking for new computers right now because
(04:45):
Windows ten Sunset is becoming reality. People are getting warning
messages on their screens from Microsoft now saying support has ended.
It's not support is gonna end. Support has ended. And
every day that goes by your computer, your Windows ten
computer becomes less less and less secure. So we're having
a lot of people coming in. If you have a
Shock build, like a Shock desktop, well we can upgrade that.
(05:07):
Even if it's not Windows eleven compatible. We can change
the hardware inside of it because it's modular, and then
it is Windows eleven compatible yay, and then we can
upgrade it yay. And it saves you like fifty percent
off buying a new computer.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Yay.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Yay.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
That's why you buy from Shock because you can do
these crazy things, but we never.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Talk about it.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
So so we're gonna talk about that a little bit
on the program today. Also, I heard you may have
heard this story. Did you hear the story about the
Mafia being involved in a basketball cheating NBA thing? So
it wasn't necessarily cheating at basketball. This is the when
the story originally hit, it made it sound like this
was like an NBA game rigging kind of cheating scand
(05:49):
like a Pete Rose kind of thing betting on sports
and being in the games, And it was no. This
was about poker. This was Texas Hold Them and if
you wanted to play Texas Hold Them with NBA stars
will come on over to the table, and the kind
of technology that these guys were using to literally cheat
(06:11):
their marks out of tens of thousands or even hundreds
of thousands of dollars per game is insane. When I
tell you, this takes card cheating to a whole other level.
This isn't dog eared card corners, guys. So there was
tons of tech involved. So even though it's not a
computer story, it's really really interesting story, like how did
they do it? And I meant, we got custom contact lenses,
(06:34):
we got X ray machines. I mean, it was crazy.
So we're gonna go through all the technology and how
they how they were able to cheat people, and then
what happened when people realized they got cheated and they're like,
I'm not gonna pay you, you cheated me. Then they
called Vinnie. Vinnie collected the tab.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
So yeah, it's like Vinnie and Tonysuit.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Or yeah, exactly. It was like a soprano. It was bad.
Oh And then, of course, guys, the show would not
be complete without the absolute absurd story of the day.
I have a photo I need to play to post
on Facebook. I haven't done it yet. I was checking
a computer in in the Lincoln Service Center this week,
And on the bottom of the computer was a sticker
placed there by the manufacturer on the bottom of a laptop.
(07:20):
And this was not one of those little netbooks, guys.
This was like a seventeen inch laptop and it said
ingestion hazard. In other words, hey, moron, don't eat your laptop.
And it wasn't even a netbook. It wasn't even a
small one. You couldn't have even got a corner of
it in your mouth, like contains a tiny button battery
(07:41):
which you can't get to unless you take the whole
computer apart. Then you could swallow the screws. You could
swallow your screwdriver. Right. So I see some dumb stuff
during the day, guys. Ingestion hazard, that's crazy stuff. But
this story that I saw is so stupid that I
had to bring it to you. Nike has a pair
of shoes that will now walk for you, yes that's right,
(08:07):
or jog for you. Even it'll improve your jogging time
if you're a slow jogger. Now we've all seen Nike
shoes that help you jump higher, help you run faster.
These shoes actually have a battery pack and a motor
that help you run faster, and the marketing behind this
is so stupid that you're gonna want to hear this,
(08:29):
So stick around for that story coming up here on
the program today as well. Four zero two, five five,
eight eleven ten is the number to join us on
the show today if you're outside of the Metro area.
Eight eight eight two five zero two zero nine to
one is the number to join us on the show.
And as we do every week, we'll be giving away
a twenty five dollars Shock Innovations gift certificate. You know,
if you guys have a question about your computer, about
(08:49):
Windows ten or Windows eleven, or maybe two five h
two or the Holiday special or anything like that, if
you give us a call here on the program, you
can get in the drawing to win that twenty five
dollars Shot gift card. And I guarantee you that if
you have the question, there are other people listening who
also have the question. You're just the one courageous enough
to call in and ask the question. And that's why
(09:10):
we give you the money. You know what, we don't
even Vinny just gives it to you. You know, you
don't even have to ask, you just here's your twenty
five dollars and here you go. And I'm I'm never
supposed to do accents, that's right, I'm supposed to not
do that. Yeah, not because of any kind of like
cultural sensitivity, because we all know that that's not here. Like,
you got to be able to laugh. My dad taught
(09:31):
me that, Like if someone's making fun of you because
you're fat, or because you're short, or because you know whatever,
you got to be able to laugh at yourself. You've
got to be able to and if you can't laugh
at yourself, you're just gonna be miserable. And so it's
like this is the root of all comedy, right, Like
you got to be able to laugh at things that
are that are so absurd they're funny, right, And so
when I try to do accents, I always really bad
at them, Like I'm terrible at them, and like what
(09:53):
are you even trying to do? Like who even is that?
Like this is so bad. It's like racist on top
of racist, like you're incompetently racist. It's like it's so bad,
So I don't I'm not supposed to do add the
Lovely Kimberly says no accents and given her improving skill
set on things. I better start listening to her because
I mentioned last week the lovely Kimberly built her own computer,
(10:15):
like a bad a double dollar sign computer. For those
of you in the know. On your computer specs, we're
talking fifty eighty rtx Rizin nine process or same one's
in the holiday special this year, the ninety nine hundred
x sixty four gigs of DDR five memory and an
as Who's Tough motherboard like thousand dollars monitor on this
(10:40):
bad boy. I'm impressed for doing the photoshop work because
we got our catalogs back for the holiday special and
the pictures were a little darker than they were on
her screen, and she was really upset about that because
the print came out darker, and so she said, it's
because her screen isn't calibrated for that kind of thing.
And she has an as Who's Creator laptop, so it's
supposed to be calibrated for that. But the new thing,
the new one that I ain't be a problem no more.
(11:00):
So she nailed it. She built the whole thing herself,
She assembled it herself, she did her own cord management.
And it wasn't just that she built the computer, because
you know, given enough instructions in YouTube searching, anybody can
build a computer. She made it look Christine. We were
joking like, we're gonna have to start this new line
called the Lovely. Do you want to lovely size that
(11:21):
the Lovely Kimberly has a design spec And now she
said no, seriously, Like I think I want to say,
take our venture for example, and say what if we
built the Venture in a sexy case, and we we
put in lit cables and routed them really nicely, and
did this that, the other, the modular power supply instead
of the standard power supply modular meaning chords are removable,
(11:42):
did all these things to it, and yeah, we're gonna
have to charge more for it, but it's gonna look pretty.
Every woman that comes in is gonna look at this
computer and say, I want that sexy beast. That's an
amazing machine. Put that on my desk. Oh wait, and
it's whisper quiet. So her computer is so quiet that
(12:03):
I put a mechanical hard drive in it for backups,
like she needed an eighteen terabyte hard drive to back
up for all of her drives. And I said, well,
they don't make solid states that are that big. When
if they did, you wouldn't want to buy them. So
get her one eighteen to. When that mechanical hard drive
engages inside the computer, you can hear it in the
room because that computer is so frigging quiet because she
(12:24):
put in the quietest of everything because she she doesn't
want a lot of flashy LEDs and stuff like that.
So it's quiet, it's subdued, and it's tasty. I mean,
it's like it's tasteful, and so we were joking she's
gonna she's gonna lovely size. So then she says, well,
we need to get the Holiday Special display models out
because that's coming out next week. And you know, we're
we're pressed for labor in the shop, so we're trying
to get everything built and get everything done. But there's
(12:45):
customer orders to build, or there's display models to build
for the next sale. Well what are you gonna buld first?
You're gonna build the customer orders, and the customer orders
just keep coming. It's a great problem to have. Don't
get me wrong. I'm not complaining, Thank you, sweet baby Jesus.
I love the business. But we still need to get
the Holiday special desktops built. So I'm like, I guess
I'll have to build those after hours or whatever. And
(13:07):
she said, well, I built my own computer. Why don't
you bring me a set of parts and I'll build one.
And so she built one last night, and she was
cursing my name the entire time because she's like, I'm
never letting you design a computer again. You're terrible at this.
And I'm like what, And I'm like, but this part
is amazing because it does this, and it runs the
chip this cool. I mean, technically, this computer is the fastest,
(13:28):
most amazing computer we have ever built at Shrock. And
we tried, we tried six different CPU coolers to find
the one that kept the chip the coolest because it's
a riz In nine AI processor. Essentially, it's a ninety
nine hundred X processor. If you put a regular cooler
on this thing, it's gonna cook and it's gonna throttle down.
And you got to put the right kind of hard
(13:49):
drive in there, and you got to put the right
this and the write that and everything else. You gotta
do these things. So everything in there is built because
it needed that spec And the Kimberly is like, yeah,
but have you had to build one yet? And I said, well, no,
you know, I don't really build the computers anymore. I
mean I do when we're in a crunch, but I
mean I have guys for that now. And she uh,
(14:11):
She's like, well, your guys hate you. Like what. So
she's like, the CPU cooler, Yeah, it's great. It's got
like all the readouts on it. It tells you what
your chip temperature is and what your GPU temperature is
on an LED readout on the side of the case.
It's beautiful. It's amazing. It's really cool. But she goes,
why does anybody want to know that? And I'm like,
trust me, people will want to know that. And she's like,
(14:32):
yeah nerds. I'm like, okay, all right, here we go.
Yeah yeah. Bill's like I want to know that.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
I would want to know that, but I'm a nerd.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
She's like, this is ugly. But she goes and it's
a monstrosity, but it's so it keeps everything so cool. Functionally,
it is. It is the best cooler. We tried six
different coolers and unless we're gonna liquid cool the thing,
and then we'd have to raise the price one hundred
and fifty bucks. Unless we were gonna liquid cool it,
this is the best way to do it. And so
she goes and what is what this power supply mountain?
(15:00):
This case? This case is like it's good, but I
hate these magnetic things that slide around on the top.
And you mean the filters they keep the dust out
like you want those? Those are good? And she's like,
you know, And so I gave her the fans because
we put the we have optional RGB fans that go
into the computer. So I gave her the fans because
the display models get built with the optional fans in them,
(15:22):
so customers can see what they look like and if
they want to add them they can. Well, she didn't
like the RGB fans, so we're having a different set
of RGB fans delivered that are addressable because she's like
these things, She's like, these are just like rainbow fans,
and this what if you don't like rainbow colors in
front of your computer? What if you want just white
(15:42):
or just blue or colors that change? Get addressable fans.
I'm like, well, addressable fans cost more, and she was
like how much more? And so I went and I
actually looked into it and it was like seven dollars more,
like you know, we're not HP. We're not building thousands
of these things, where seven dollars a computer is like
millions of dollars. On the bottom line, we're building one
(16:04):
hundred and fifty desktops for the holiday special, so seven
times one hundred and fift, so it's seven hundred and
fifty dollars to give you guys, and we're not and
that you have to buy the addressable fans like they
don't come with it. So realistically, maybe only half the
people are gonna buy it. So seventy five people are
gonna buy this for seven it costs US seven dollars
and fifty cents more, So it's not going to break
the bank, but it is going to look a lot better.
(16:25):
And so the Lovely Kimberly is really stepping up her
game and she's going from we do catalog. I always say,
if there's anything beautiful in our company, it's not a
computer guy that did that, it's the Lovely Kimberly. If
you see the Omaha Service Center, then the makeover, she
designed it, and then she did it like she generaled it.
And then she was getting there cutting the wood for
the trim like she did it. And so it's just
(16:47):
amazing stuff. So huge thank you to the lovely Kimberly
for doing that work and making our products better and
apparently more beautiful, more lovely for sure. Four zero two
five five eight eleven ten eight eight eight two five
zero two zero. We're going to take our first break
of the program, guys, but when we come back, we've
got We're going to talk a little bit about what
(17:08):
makes our computers different or special or better. We also
have some news coming at you about the recovery of
the Lincoln Service Center and an important update from the
Omaha Service Center as well. This week, it's just a busy,
busy show today. Stay tuned. More coming up next on
Compute This.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
Remember the good old days when virus detection worked like
where's Waldo? Spot the virus in the striped shirt and
you win. Today's infections are changing hourly to avoid detection
and use social engineering to trick you into making mistakes.
Using yesterday's security to defend against today's threats is like
using leeches to stop an infection. It just doesn't work.
(17:45):
We recommend Sofos intercept X anti virus backed by Shrocks
Virus Free Guarantee Sofos uses the power of AI to
detect the patterns of a virus attack and responds with
Shock's custom actions that stop it fast. Soos on your PC, Mac, Android,
or iOS device, you get the state of the art
protection you need to defend against the most advanced attacks
(18:08):
out there. In fact, if your device gets a virus
while running sofos antivirus, Shocks will remove it for free,
guaranteed it hasn't happened yet, and we intend to keep
it that way. Ditch your dad's antivirus and keep your device,
data and identities safe with Sofos and Shock Innovations Throck Innovations.
Speaker 5 (18:28):
Repair technicians also make house calls, make an appointment and
let us bring our award winning computer support right to
your home or business.
Speaker 6 (18:35):
You know your computer needs modern antivirus, and you know
using a VPN helps protect your identity online, But did
you know that all of that protection could be useless
if you're running outdated programs. We all run common free
software like Adobe, Reader, Dropbox, Firefox, and Chrome every day.
There are critical security updates for these common programs that
(18:56):
don't get automatically installed for up to two weeks. That's
an eturn in today's world. That's why Shrock created Secure Updator.
Secure updater checks for and installs these critical updates every
eight hours, boosting your antivirus by closing off attack vectors
before they can be used to penetrate your computer. Go
to secure updater dot com and try it for free.
(19:17):
We are so confident in our product we don't even
ask for a credit card to start the trial. Go
to secure updater dot com today and start your fourteen
day trial and enjoy having the peace of mind that
your software is being updated quickly and safely. You will
be shocked at the number of programs that are out
of date on your PC. Right now, get your fourteen
day free trial at secure updater dot com.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
All righty folks, welcome back into compute.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
This.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
My name is Thor Schrock. I'm the owner of the
Shrock Innovations computer company for locations. To help you out
when your computer is not doing what you needed to do.
When you got Windows ten and you need to get
Windows eleven and you're not sure or if your computer
can take it, or if you should buy a new computer,
we can step you through all the options. We can
even give you options you didn't know you had. It's
pretty crazy stuff. You can come to our original Shock
(20:10):
Innovations location at seventy five oh one South fifteenth Street
in Lincoln, just south of fourteenth and Pine Lake Road.
A quick program note on the Lincoln location because the
remediation guys have to get in there and do a
bunch of work. I have a toilet in my front
lobby right now, no joke. In Lincoln, there's a literal
toilet in the front room in the front lobby because
(20:31):
the bathroom had to be completely gutted and read drywalled
and everything. So these guys, the remediation guys are doing
BK Restoration is doing amazing work on that Lincoln service center.
But some of the stuff they have to do is
really noisy, and so it's got to be done when
we're not there. So we had to curtail our hours
a little bit to give them the time to get
us back up and running. We're limping in there right now,
(20:52):
but we want to be back up to full speed.
We'd actually like to use our own bathroom again instead
of having to walk down to the coffee shop to
go pee. You know, that's literally where we're at in
Lincoln right now. Okay, so we're our hours in Lincoln
are a little bit different. They're only ten to six
Monday through Saturday right now. So we actually closed on
Sunday on Lincoln and we're only open till six in
the evening on Saturday. It's just temporary, or excuse me,
(21:14):
on Monday through Saturday. It's just temporary. We'll get back
to normal hours once all the construction is done. But
there you go. There you have it in Omaha one
hundred and sixty eighth in Burke Street, across the street
from the Village Point shopping Center in Papilion eighty fourth
and Highway three seventy. And then in West Des Moines,
Iowa at ninety five hundred University Avenue, one of the
(21:35):
fastest growing. The other day, I remember when we launched
that service center, and you know, we'd have maybe two
work orders a day for like the first seven or
eight months. Like it was just we're getting work. But
it wasn't like crazy work. We didn't need a full staff,
you know what I mean. I went in there this
last weekend to drop off a transfer, and their entire
(21:55):
bench was full, Like they didn't have a queue, but
the bench was completely full. We have forty bench spots
in there. It was just a beautiful thing to see. Beautiful.
They would disagree. They were like, oh, we're just getting
killed in here, and I'm like, this is amazing. And
they were like it was dead until you got here.
And I'm like, well, I bring the rain. What can
I say? You know, I show up and the customers
follow me. I love it. So yeah, the ninety five
(22:18):
hundred University Avenue, West Des Moines, Iowa. Also super super
big thank you to everybody who voted for us in
the Best of Omaha competition. We just posted the picture
up at Facebook dot com slash Shrock Innovations Joe holding
up the banner. The staff was all celebrating in the
in the group signal chat. You know, there was a
lot of memes, a lot of fun stuff. But we
(22:40):
don't we don't win Best of Omaha awards if you
guys don't vote for us, and of course you don't
vote for us if we don't do good work, and
so it's a it's a circular thing. So when we
bring we win the award, it's a reflection on the
work that we've done in the past, and so we
recognize that and I thank you for supporting us. I
thank you for your votes. It's awesome to win these award.
Words that they are a measure of what we've done
(23:02):
in the past. So we need to continue to move
forward and improve, and part of that is adding all
this additional staff. I mentioned that we have twelve open
positions right now at Shrock, all kinds of different positions,
not just technicians. So if you are interested in working
for Shock, you can check out. Just go to indeed
and search for Shrock Innovations as c h r Ock
and you'll see all of our open positions. You can
(23:23):
actually follow our company, so if other positions open up,
you can get notified about it, and then that way
you know you're always in the know. If you're thinking
I might want to work for them someday, you can.
You can know when we post an open position and
get your application in for that one as well. For zero, two, five, five, eight, eleven, ten. Bob,
welcome to the program. How can I help you on
compute this today?
Speaker 7 (23:43):
Yes, thank you, take a bit call. I must say
I had mixed feelings about Sharp Innovations because, as one
unfortunate ones were on my computer in for repair right
before the water burst. Yeah, and I did not receive
any damage or anything. I just picked up my computer
(24:05):
now Friday. Everything is working fine, and I got to
say great work. I met Parker for the first time
and he's very nice, very nice person. Of course, there's
another guy but I guess helped work on my Computer's
name was thor or whoever he was waiting to see.
(24:27):
They thank you for all the good work. But I
do have a couple of suggestions. One of them is this,
when I call in to Shock Innovations, I never know
who I'm talking to because sometimes when I called Lincoln
the other day, I ended up in Bellevue talking to
the technician there. They need to announce where they're at.
(24:53):
I go through my spiel about trying to find about
my computer and find out I'm talking to the wrong person.
Might be something you might think about.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
Yeah, that's a suggestion.
Speaker 7 (25:05):
And myother another thing I have. I have your last
year's Desktop Holiday special working great. My only problem I'm
it's bothered me is I'm in genealogy, and so that's
why I wanted this computer because it has the second
automatic backup on it. But then I thought of one thing.
(25:28):
Right now, shruck has my computer. All my backup information
is that Shrucks shop instead of in my home. So
I have since since I got it. Now i'm back,
I've hooked up another external backup so I make sure
I don't lose my information.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
Gotcha.
Speaker 7 (25:46):
So otherwise you're doing a good job. Keep it up
and hopefully everything will go good down on Lincoln Store.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
Well, thank you, Bob. I appreciate it. In fact, you
know that's that's the thing. We're closed down there today,
but we have forty five work orders in that service
center right now. Forty five people have their computers in
that service center who are all trying to to they
all want their computers back. And when we curtail our
hours because you know there's going to be people grinding
and sanding and vacuuming and doing all the things, we
(26:15):
can't really have phone conversations very easily.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
You know.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
It just slows down our turnaround time. So that's where
I'm going after the show today. Actually, I'm going to
go down to Lincoln and I'm going to put in
my my noise canceling earbuds because it's going to be loud.
In there and I'm on grind on the bench. You know,
maybe I can't call customers, but at least I can
get all the base testing done. I can get all
the all the fixing done so that when we call
you back, it's just you know, by a boom, by
(26:39):
a bang, and we can send it out the door.
You know it's good stuff. So thank you for the suggestions, Bob.
You know, we we struggle with the phone situation because
do we allow customers to leave a voicemail when we
know we don't have a front desk right now to
return voicemails? I'm I am the front desk. Essentially, I
spent all day yesterday returning voicemails from the previous two days.
(27:00):
Do we allow the other service centers to answer those
calls as an overflow if we can't answer them in Lincoln?
So that you know, our customers can get answers to
most customers who call our calling like, do you guys
sell computers?
Speaker 4 (27:12):
Do it?
Speaker 2 (27:12):
When do you open?
Speaker 3 (27:14):
You know?
Speaker 2 (27:15):
I have a question? My screen is cracked? Do you
guys fix that? A lot of these questions are generic
questions that any of our texts and any of our
locations can answer. And so when I'm in Lincoln working
the front desk, for example, and the phone rings and
says it's like a des Moin call or an Omaha call,
I know that they're all on the phone and they
can't answer the call. So when I answer the phone,
I don't tell that customer that I'm in Lincoln. I
(27:37):
answer their questions. Now, if we get down to the
point where they're like, hey, I need to bring this in,
who do I ask for and here can I ask
for you? At that point of course, I'm honest with
the customer and say, well, I'm not actually there right now.
Through the magic of telephone IP phones, I'm in a
different location, but I know who is in there today,
and I can pass a message to the team to
make sure that they know what's going on. So when
(27:58):
you come in that Madison and the desk knows who
you are and what's going on. And that's the way
we should do it. And so rather than you know, Bob,
you shouldn't have even known you were talking to anybody
in Bellevue. You should they should have been hey, I'm
looking for an update on my computer. I'd be happy
to get you an update on the computer. Let me
check the system and see if there's any notes from
the technician. If there are no notes in the online system,
(28:18):
then you know what. That technician's on the phone right
now because obviously you wouldn't have been in the papilion
location if he wasn't on the phone. So he's on
the phone right now with a customer. Can I take
a message and have him give you a call right back?
And then we just text that message to the group
chat for the Lincoln Service Center and then they return
the call. It works out really well, really well. It's
much better service than making you leave a recorded voicemail
(28:40):
and then watching that light blink on the phone. And
then sometimes you call two, three or four times and
you leave multiple voicemails and then you're like, okay, which
one is the real voicemail? And then does anybody talk
to this person? Did they get through on the fifth attempt?
Do I need to call them back at all? So
I called a lot of people back. There's like, oh, no,
I talked to Parker. He took care of me. That's good.
So yeah, the phone situation. But we're hiring multiple front
(29:01):
desk people to help us out and making sure We
want to have that service level at just stupid highs.
We want it so incredibly butter smooth that when you
call a Shock Innovations location, anybody can help you with
any problem, no matter what location they're in. And that's
something that we're aspiring to. We're actually implementing new technologies
to make that happen. For zero, two, five, five, eight
(29:24):
eleven ten is number to join us on the program today, Pam,
Welcome to the show. How can I help you on
compute this?
Speaker 4 (29:30):
Oh, good morning morning, Thanks for taking my call.
Speaker 8 (29:34):
Just a real quick question. I purchased the Sofos software
for my cell phone.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
Now what now? What do I need to do to
get it on my phone?
Speaker 2 (29:45):
Gotcha? So you purchase it online? I'm guessing correct, right, Okay, perfect?
So when you purchase it online, you receive the receipt
in your email for the purchase, and sometimes it doesn't
it Probably it says on the receipt, make sure you
call the service center so we can install it on
your phone. Of course, if people don't see that, then
(30:06):
they don't call. Now, Usually what happens is I watch
every invoice that comes through for the entire company, and
if I see an If I see a Sofa's mobile sale,
I flag the service center and say and I go
into that chat and I say, heads up, guys, you
know Pam bought Sofa's mobile. We need to give her
a call to get that installed. So money times we
just end up calling the customer. But that's a physical
(30:26):
system that's in place, not an automatic system. And so
what we need to do to install it on your phone,
we actually need to have your phone, so it requires
you be in the service center because we have to
scan a QR code with your phone's camera and then
we can install it on your phone and get it
all taken care of. It takes about five minutes. It's
not a terribly complex thing to do, but we can
get it all taken care of for you at the
(30:47):
front desk.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Oh terrific.
Speaker 5 (30:49):
Okay, perfect, thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
All right, Hey, thank you for the call, Pam. I
appreciate it. All right, It's that easy, guys. You see
a couple people in the drawging there for twenty five bucks,
you never know who's gonna win. Is it Bob, is
it pay? We'll find out into the program. We'll have
that random drawing four zero two five, five, eight eleven ten.
When you're buying a new computer, you know, you go
into the box store and you look at the shelf
and you're comparing the little note cards on the shelf.
(31:13):
This one comes with one terabyte, This one comes with
five twelve storage. This one comes with eight gbs of RAM.
This one comes with sixteen gbs of RAM. So sixteen
is more than eight, so that must be better, right,
And then all of a sudden, some guy on the
radio comes up and says, well, RAM has speed. So
eight is not always better than sixteen, or sixteen is
(31:34):
not always better than eight, because is it DDR four
or DDR five? And one terabyte is not always better
than five hundred and twelve gigabytes in storage? Because is
it a mechanical hard drive? Is it a solid state
hard drive? What type of solid state hard drive is it?
What generation within that type is it? There's all kinds
(31:56):
of different questions that most normal people, human beings don't
ask when they buy new computers. When you come to shock,
whether you're buying a computer from Shrock or you're buying
a computer off the shelf somewhere else, and you just
want to make sure that you're not getting taken for
a ride. You can bring that spec or that AD
or whatever. You can shoot us an email just ask us, hey,
(32:17):
I'm gonna buy this computer. Is this something that I
should buy? And we'll go through and tell you all
the things to watch out for. And if you're coming
into shock to actually purchase your computer, you don't have
to worry about those things because when we sell you
the computer, we have purposefully and intentionally selected every single
component that goes in that computer to make sure it's
(32:37):
going to perform at the level that you want it
to perform at. Now, one of the things that's always
cool about Apple, right, even if you're not an Apple fan,
like I have a Android phone, my wife has an iPhone.
You know, we're a mixed household, right dueling teams. But
there are things about the Apple ecosystem that are just
our butter smooth.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
You know.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
I had an example yesterday. I was talking to a
woman on the phone in Papillion named Karen. She needed
to get printer she wanted to print from her cell phone.
This HP printer supports air print out of the box,
no app required. But if you have an Android phone,
you have to install the HP app and then you
can print from your phone, so it requires extra steps.
Sometimes the Apple ecosystem is just smoother. It's just a
(33:19):
better experience in some ways, right. And it's all the intangible,
it's all the things you don't think about when you buy.
When you bought the Apple phone, you weren't thinking, I bet,
I can print from this phone easier. You weren't thinking,
I bet if I install an app on this phone,
I can control all I can control this phone from
my MacBook, and I can send text messages from my MacBook,
and I can answer calls on my MacBook or my
(33:40):
iPad or you know, I have a linked ecosystem. It's
all together because it's all Apple, all tied together with
an Apple account. Well, when you buy a computer from Shock,
all of your information is tied together in your Shock account,
and when you buy that computer, there's an entire ecosystem.
The entire ecosystem is designed to keep your computer operating,
(34:02):
to prevent it from having random, unknown failures, and then
to get it the maintenance that it needs at the
time it needs it to keep everything running. Great. Example,
had a computer into Lincoln service Center. Customer used this
laptop he bought a resolute and it was he used
it to play Texas Hold Him. That's all he did
with it. He played, he plays oil card games on it,
(34:22):
and somehow he managed to fill up the entire hard drive.
I'm saying, you know, when you fill a glass of
water and the water's kind of bubbling up. That meniscus
is what it's called it for the science guys out there.
The meniscus is over the top of the glass, like
you could not put another drop of water in the
glass without it overflowing. That's how full this guy's hard
drive was zero kilobytes available, none, nothing, not a It's full.
(34:44):
And it could be used that he brought it in
because it wasn't working right. And so we're like, well, shoot,
we went back and looked the last time you had
a maintenance check up was like a year ago, and well,
if you would have come in six months ago, we
would have said, hey, your hard drive's more than eighty
percent full. We should probably clone this over onto a
bigger hard drive so you don't fill up have to
come in and pay a bunch of money as like
an emergency situation to have this fixed, or another person
(35:06):
brought in their computer it's running check discs all the time,
and it was running slow. Well, their solid state hard
drive was starting to fail and drive Advisor had been
flagging it forever. But the customer just wasn't getting the
emails for some reason, and they don't respond to rubble calls,
so they didn't get our calls. And so okay, you
know you weren't seeing the emails, are getting the calls.
(35:27):
So here we have an ecosystem that's designed to protect you.
But because this person came in for their regular maintenance checkup,
the catch all we caught that the drive was failing.
We were able to clone the drive onto a stable
drive and get them back up and running again without
any data recovery. Because the system, the ecosystem is there
(35:48):
to support you. So when you buy from Shock, when
you buy a desktop or a laptop or something, you're
not just buying the piece of hardware, the piece of equipment.
You're buying the support that goes behind it. The award
winning support that's winning Best of All Hall Awards, Best
of Lincoln Awards winning We actually won the Best of
I think it was the Best of West de Moines.
I think that's the name of it. Officially, I think
(36:09):
because they told me we needed to defend our title.
And you know, we didn't really do anything to get
the title. We just got the title because of what
we do, and so we still do what we do.
So I would assume we'll get the title again. We'll
see what happens. I guess you don't want to assume
those things, but that's that's how the system works at truck.
So when you're looking for your next computer, whether it's
a holiday special, the display models are going up next
(36:31):
week for the holiday specials. They're available on the website
right now. Oh gosh, I have to take a break.
I'm so late, but I need to tell you this.
The holiday special laptop is an absolute shortage. It is
in critical shortage. We had sixty units that we ordered
initially for the initial shipment. We went to order the
second shipment of sixty because we break it up into
(36:51):
shipments because there's no point in having all the hardware
sitting around for months and months and months. And we
were informed by the manufacturer that due to unexpected supply
chain issues i e. Tariffs, our second order was not
going to be available and the unit that we ordered
is going to go end of life. This is the
(37:12):
perfect holiday special laptop. There is nothing else. Literally, I look, guys,
there was one other computer. It was an MSI and
I hate MSI computers. There is nothing else that This
as US Vivo book is perfect. It's got a two
K screen, it's got an RGB backlit keyboard. It's I mean,
it's got an AI processor, it's got thirty two gigs
at the DDR five high speed memory. It's got the
(37:34):
fourth generation SSD in it. I mean, everything about this
computer is perfect. And I have about forty five of
them left. Normally we sell one hundred and fifty during
the holiday special. It is going end of life. That
doesn't mean we can't find stock old new stock essentially
at other places. So we're gonna we're searching for that
right now to see if we can find it and
then if we can get it at a reasonable price.
(37:55):
If you were thinking about a holiday special laptop, the
reason I am telling you this, do not procrastinate, because
if you procrastinate, we may not have them. They may
sell out well before Christmas, well before Christmas, or we
may have to change the model to something that's a
little less spectacular. So you don't want to miss out
on this one. Check that out, all right, I gotta
take a quick break when we come back, Dylan Sharon,
(38:17):
You're coming up next. And the crazy technology the mafia
used to cheat people out of tens of thousands or
even hundreds of thousands of dollars at Texas holding poker
and then Vinnie would collect the money. Yeah, it actually happened.
And the technology will blow your mind. Secret hand signals,
special glasses, X ray scanners, under the tables, rigged dealing gear.
(38:42):
It was all part of the game. We're going to
tell you how they did it. Coming up next on
compute this.
Speaker 6 (38:46):
There are enough unused computers in storage to give every man,
woman and child in the US and old, outdated and
useless computer system obsolete tablets and smartphones are nearly as bad.
Most people know not to throw them into the land
where they leak and contaminate, but it's hard to find
a place to safely recycle electronics. That's why Shrock Innovations
(39:07):
offers free recycling for computers, laptops, phones, tablets, cords, and accessories.
In fact, only monitors and printers have a small recycling fee.
Everything else is free. More Importantly, Shock will securely delete
any data from your devices and hard drives before they
are sent to a certified recycling partner, who will then
repeat the wiping process just to be saved. When you
(39:29):
recycle your old technology at Shrock, you know your identity
and privacy are protected and your equipment is being actually
recycled by a certified recycling partner. Shock is proud to
recycle more ewys than we produce annually, making a positive
difference to our economy and ecology. Do your part by
dropping your old gear at any Shrock service center and
(39:50):
be part of the area's largest and most popular technology
recycling program with Shrock Innovations.
Speaker 5 (39:57):
Update all of your third party apps on your computer
with secure updator. It keeps all your apps running smoothly
and helps block viruses. Download it for free today at
secure updater dot com.
Speaker 6 (40:09):
You would probably rather drink the water at Camp La
June than get another call about the desperate need to
renew your cars expiring warranty. Who actually responds to those calls.
Everyone wants to play the warranty game where you pay
money now just in case you need service later that
everyone hopes you won't net or use. It's such a waste.
It's no different with computers. Major manufacturers warranties have more
(40:32):
subscript crosses than a Sunday morning church service. Batteries are exempt.
Hard dripes must be completely dead and forget about anything
that they can remotely clean us physical damage. That's why
Shrock warranties are different. When you purchase a modul or
PC or a solid state laptop and extend your warranty,
we offer a no risk money back guarantee. If you
(40:52):
need the warranty, you will be thrilled to have it
if you don't use it, and we refund your money
automatically every time. That's right. Are so confident in the
quality of our products that are extended warranties are refundable.
Many Shock customers use their refunds to purchase another warranty
or pocket the savings.
Speaker 1 (41:09):
And move on.
Speaker 6 (41:10):
We all know you'll need it to cover that expiring
car warranty. Anyway. Shock's refundable extended warranties just another way
the Shrock Innovations computer company makes your computer work for you.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
All right, folks, welcome back into compute this. My name
is Thora Schrock. I'm the owner of the Shock Innovations
computer company, having a good time on the program today.
I love being here and I love having you here
as well. For zero, two, five, five, eight, eleven tens
a number to join us on the show. And that's
what Dylan has done. Dylan, how can I help you
today on compute this?
Speaker 8 (41:50):
Hey?
Speaker 4 (41:50):
Good morning her?
Speaker 2 (41:50):
Are you very good? How about you don't do that?
Speaker 4 (41:53):
Hey? I got a question on TVs. Hey, so we
have it a couple of TVs in one house, a
couple of other rental house, and that one always has
problems on receiving it'll it'll do the I mean, do
you can you have to watch out for something when
you buy a TV as far as the Wi Fi receiver, Well,
there's that's the question or not?
Speaker 2 (42:15):
Yeah, you know, you get what you pay for. So
if you buy a high end TV, usually you get
a high end Wi Fi receiver. If you buy a
TCL TV like what we use in the service centers
to use the just to basically be a twenty four
to seven billboard, we're gonna run it until it burns out. Well,
those those you know, you're gonna run those on a
USB drivet because you're not gonna want to trust the
Internet on those. So here's the other thing though, most
(42:38):
most smart TVs, if you're having trouble with the wireless,
most smart TVs have a wired option in the back.
You can actually plug a land cable right into the
back of the of the TV. Of course, most people
don't have a conveniently placed land outlet right where their
TV goes, you know, so if you don't have a
place to plug in, how are you gonna do that? Well,
there's this thing called a a power line Ethernet adapter,
(43:03):
and you can find them online. They cost like one
hundred bucks for a pair. And so wherever your router is,
you plug this into a wall outlet and then you
plug an Ethernet cable from your router into this thing
that goes in the wall outlet. And then you take
the receiver and you plug it into the wall outlet
behind the TV, and then you can take an Ethernet
cable from that to the back of the TV and
you literally will transmit the Internet through the power wires
(43:26):
in your house, the copper wires in your house, so
it'll use that to send the Ethernet over the power cables.
That's why it's called a you know, a power line
Ethernet adapter, but it essentially gives you a wired connection
wherever you're at in the house. It's slower than a
typical wired connection, but it's going to be way faster
than an unstable wireless one.
Speaker 3 (43:45):
So you would.
Speaker 2 (43:46):
Plenty to stream on. You know, if you're gaming on it,
you probably wouldn't like that. But if if you're like
playing Call of Duty or something, you wouldn't like that.
But if you're streaming, it's perfect.
Speaker 4 (43:54):
Is there a number you can look at when you
buy the TVs?
Speaker 2 (43:57):
Unfortunately not the most most of the TVs they're just
quote unquote smart TVs. If you get online, you can
maybe break down like is it a Wi Fi six receiver?
Is it a WiFi seven receiver? Is it a Wi
Fi five receiver? You know you can?
Speaker 8 (44:10):
You can.
Speaker 2 (44:10):
None of them are really WiFi seven except for like
the you know, four and five thousand dollars TVs right now,
most of them are going to be Wi Fi five
because streaming doesn't require that much connectivity. So the problem
that you're experiencing, and thank you for the call, Dylan,
but the problem you're experiencing is not the speed of
the connection. It's the reliability of the connection. It's actually
dropping because the show will buffer and then it'll lose
(44:31):
the connection and it'll keep playing the show because it's buffered,
and then the connection will resume and it buffers some more.
But if it doesn't resume in time, then your show
hiccups and you know, stutters, and then you know loses
connection with that power line Ethernet adapter. That will solve
that problem for you for zero two five five eight
eleven ten, Sharon, Welcome to the program. How can I
help you on compute this today?
Speaker 8 (44:53):
Yes, thank you for taking my call. I have a
quick question. I didn't know if I got the notification
about the two five h two being coming onto our computers.
Speaker 7 (45:05):
I usually got.
Speaker 8 (45:06):
A notification in my email has it been installed by itself,
and I.
Speaker 2 (45:11):
Wouldn't know it no right now, Like for example, my
laptop here that I used for the show, I haven't
had this on since last Sunday. So now it's popping
up and it's telling me there's a feature update that
you can install, and I have to go in and
say yes, I want to install it right now. Eventually
it's just gonna automatic next.
Speaker 8 (45:28):
Mine has upped up like that on my laptop.
Speaker 2 (45:31):
Okay, And yeah, the two five h two update and
was released on October first. We sent the email, the
Facebook messages that, the SMS text messages, everything on October second,
once we had it online and tested and everything else.
So as of the second it was released. So if
you have safe upgrade software and you haven't run it yet,
go ahead and run it now. And I'm going to
throw a couple things out there.
Speaker 7 (45:52):
Oh, go ahead, How do I do it?
Speaker 8 (45:54):
I don't know how. See, I bought the protection and
I don't have a record of that either. I had
my computer in for maintenance in September and I got
it back, and I had bought the maintenance thing and
I got it back. But I made a note because
I don't get receipts. I like card copy receipts, and
I don't get that anymore. I can't print them off
(46:16):
of mails. But I show in September that I bought
the sofolks, and I showed that it would cost me
eighty five fifty nine to upgrade for years as of
October first, Well, I have a spectrum charge on my
credit card for the month of October, but it's that's
not the amount it shows, and so for me, that
tells me I don't know what that's for sure. So
(46:38):
then I did buy the upgrade, but I don't have
a record that I don't show that they charged me
for it, or that you charged me for it. So
I wanted to do so I don't get things screwed up. No, no, no,
I don't have that coverage or if it.
Speaker 2 (46:54):
Didn't go through, gotcha. It's completely understandable. So the easiest
way to handle this is to go to your Shock account.
If you go to Shrock Innovations dot com, you can
click on log in in the top right corner and
it's the same log in process that you use to
buy the software in the first place. So you put
in your email address and your password. If you don't
know your password, you can always reset it, and then
(47:15):
it will show you all of your orders, everything you've
ever ordered from Shrock, and you'll be able to go
through it line by line. All of your subscriptions will
be there, everything will be there, and then if you
have safe upgrade there, you can also download the software
from the download section and you can click on that
and download your software. And run it on your computer
if you need help doing that. I understand that you're
in Lincoln Share and I believe so it's been a
(47:36):
little tough to get through on the phone lines there,
but we're actively addressing that right now. In fact, I've
set up I've even set up a phone station in
my home so on days when I have to be
with the children, I can just answer the phones. If
I'm on kid duty, I can answer the phones from
Lincoln at my own house if I have to, because
we need to make sure that those phones are getting answered.
(47:56):
But thank you for the call sharing. Appreciate you doing
business with us here at Shrock, and we'll make sure
check out your Shock account. If you have questions, give
us a call in the service center and we can
go ahead and help you run that two five h
too software. All right, real quickly, guys, the technology that
was used in this you've probably heard about this FBI
arresting a bunch of people in the NBA coaches and players.
(48:16):
Essentially the coaches and the players, and all these people
were playing Texas Holden poker with people who wanted to
play poker with celebrities, and so when they would play
the poker. They'd play these games. They were cheating and
the mafia was helping them cheat. So there was x
ray technology that was used to they could read every
card in the deck, which is just amazing to me.
(48:38):
And then there were rigged dealing, rigged machines that would
deal the cards in certain ways based on what the
computer was telling them was the next card in the deck.
It would also do wireless computers that monitored what every
player had in their hand. It would read it on
the table and the computer would tell the quarterback what
was going on, who would then send hand signals by
(48:59):
touching it chip or doing something like that to other
people at the table whether they you know, what they
should do in the game. There were ray the x
ray system allowed, there were people with special contact lenses
that could see everything. It was insane. The amount of technology,
Like I said, hundreds of thousands of dollars as much
as one hundreds of thousands of dollars taken from individual
people at these tables, hidden cameras, the whole bit. That's
(49:22):
why the FBI's arrested so many people. Guys. This was
like a top of the line, high tech cheating system
and it was just crazy when you read the story
of how they did it. Just amazing technology. All Right're

everything from professionals, front desk people, admin assistance. It's all
(51:31):
their Shockcannovations dot com. Now really quickly, here there's there's
this story that just blew my mind. You know, Nike
always has made shoes that, you know, help you jump higher.
They would say that, remember the Air Jordan's, you know,
and all that other stuff, And they have little sponges
and little springs and all kinds of different designs, and
you know, they're lighter, they're heavier, they you know, whatever
(51:51):
the case might be. For the first time ever, Nike
is releasing a battery powered shoe that they they equate
to an e bike. And I'm not joking, guys. It's
got an ankle It looks like a wristband, but it's
an ankle band. That's the lithium battery that goes around
your calf. They're building this in the marketing. The shoe
itself is dumb, but the marketing is really just boneheaded.
(52:14):
So they're saying it's like a second set of calf muscles,
because who doesn't want to have a second set of
calf muscles? Okay, they're designed to This is from their marketing,
designed to inspire regular users who want to move more
often or for longer periods of time. So people who
want to move, like you can just stop walking, but
(52:34):
you keep walking Like, what do you mean, like, you're
getting assistants walking so you can walk for a longer
period of time. Are you an athlete or are you
Is this designed for like people who are not athletes.
Speaker 3 (52:45):
I love that episode of the Wiley Coyote.
Speaker 2 (52:48):
Yeah, so Nike says that these will help slow joggers
push their limits, achieving speeds of ten or even twelve
minute miles. So I a twelve minute mile is five
miles an hour. Guys, my wife walks faster at the
fricking grocery store. Like, if you're jogging and you're not
going five miles an hour, you're not jogging. I'm sorry,
(53:09):
that's a fast walk, you know, I mean it can help,
it can help. I don't get that's five miles an hour.
I don't understand why on earth now these shoes are
not available for purchase yet. Something tells me they're never
going to see the light of day. But yeah, this
concept shoe announced by Nike second set of calf muscles
not really intended for athletes. So I don't know who
(53:31):
it's intended for. But you know, fat people who don't
like to walk. I don't know. All right, Pam, congratulations
you've won yourself twenty five dollars in the Shock Innovations
gift certificate. Will get a hold of you on Monday
to get that into your Shock account, and we'll see
