Speaker 1 (00:03):
Shrock Innovations presents the midwest number one independent computer repair
company with service centers and Lincoln Paul Maha, Papillion Des
Moines and across the country via the Shrock Desk. This
is Compute This.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Good morning, folks, welcome in to Compute this. My name's
Thor Schrock. I'm the owner of the Shock Innovations computer company.
My brain is leaking stuff that we need to talk
about today, so I'm trying. I'm gonna try to get
everything in and try to get every call in that
we can get in, because the callers do make the show.
So what we're gonna do today is we've got a
show full of information on the technology stuff that's going

(00:41):
on in the world around you. But what everybody is
talking about this week are, of course, the tariffs. And
you're probably sick of hearing about tariffs. Honestly, you're like,
I don't want to hear about it. I don't want
to hear I don't need to know the inner workings
of governmental you know, I don't care. What I'm gonna
tell you today, guys, is how this is going to
impact your life. What you're going to see, what we

(01:03):
are already seeing even though these tariffs don't take effect
until the ninth. Right, So when people breathlessly on Fox,
I was looking at my Amazon shopping cart and I
saw the prices going up. Well, the prices are going up,
but the tariffs don't take effect till the ninth What
does that tell you, shysters. Yeah, there's people stealing money

(01:27):
from you in the name of tariffs. You know. It's
it's gouging, you know. So there's a lot to go
through here. So we're gonna we're gonna break it down
Barney style for you. We're not gonna get into the weeds.
And you know that's for the aftershock. In the after shock,
I'm gonna explain to you why Cambodia and Vietnam are important.
Most of us don't care about Cambodia or Vietnam, Okay,
you know in the modern sense anyway. You know, maybe

(01:50):
in historical sense they were important things, but you know,
in the modern times when it comes to tariffs, who
don't you know, who cares? I just want to know
how this is going to impact my life, and so
I'm gonna tell you how it impacting us at Shrock,
how that is going, Why you didn't feel the first
ten percent tariff in your life at all, and then
how this time is going to be different, so assuming
that anything happens at all. So we got that to

(02:11):
go through. But I do want to take your calls
because for zero two, five, five, eight eleven ten is
the best number to reach us at. If you're outside
of the metro area, you can call toll free at
eight eight eight two five zero two zero nine to one.
That's eight eight eight two five zero two zero nine
to one. And of course, as we do every show,
one caller, you know, somebody who asks the question, makes

(02:33):
a comment, participates in the show in some way. We'll
receive a twenty five dollars Shrock Innovations gift certificate that
Emily will get out to you from the Omaha Service
Center on Monday here after the program at it right
into your Shock account. You can use it for anything
your heart desires over there at the service center, all right.
And also I want to welcome everybody watching live at
Facebook dot com slash Shroc Innovations, Facebook dot com slash

(02:55):
Shrock Innovations. You can watch your radio there if you like,
if that's something you're into, and there's all the commentators.
The commentators in Shrockville as well. Get a little behind
the scenes stuff going on there as well during the
commercial break. So fun stuff there at Facebook dot com
slash shroc Innovations. If you missed the show last week,
you can find that on our website at Shrocannovations dot com.

(03:17):
Our show as well as the aftershock that I said
was going to be brief but then went for two hours.
You know, hey, we got on a roll. What can
I say? It's there Shrockcannovations dot com. Click on radio
show and you can see all the videos there. You
can also follow us on our rumble and YouTube channels
if you want to get notifications when new shows are posted.
But last week on the program, we launched the twenty
twenty five Ultimate Upgrade. It was a soft launch, is

(03:38):
what they call it in the industry. We didn't we
didn't harp on it, we didn't go through the deep
dive in it. We were wrapping up the maintenance check
up sale. We had two things going on at once,
so we just did a nice soft launch on the
Ultimate Upgrade. More on that coming up in the program here.
We also shared the news that twenty three in me
is bankrupt and is going to be selling your genetic
data because that's the only asset they have left. So

(03:59):
you can need to go there and delete your data,
and we told you how to do that, so that's
definitely something you want to pick up if you missed
that one. We also talked about how Facebook is changing
the Friends and Family tab, the little two people, the
NPC icon tab at the top of your Facebook app
on your phone or your tablet. They're changing that. You

(04:20):
can go into the settings and now you can set
that up so that tab only shows you posts from
actually friends and family. So it's kind of like what
Facebook used to be way back in the day. You know,
I'm sure there's gonna be ads in there still, but
not the post from groups and all the other stuff
that clutters up your feet are things that the algorithm
things you want to see. It's just gonna be posts
from friends and family, so kind of neat there. I

(04:41):
wonder if they'll put them in chronological order. Wouldn't that
be amazing? Don't you hate that when you see like
someone's like happy birthday Bill, and you're like, happy birthday Bill,
and I didn't forget And then if you look at
the post and it's like two weeks ago, and you're like, ah,
Bill's birthday was two weeks ago and I missed it,
And now I'm just an ass for saying happy birthday
two weeks late. Pretend like I didn't forget thanks thor Youah,

(05:02):
no problem, Bill, Yeah, I appreciate you, appreciate you being here. Also,
we reminded you to update your Facebook and your Chrome.
There is a zero day vulnerability that was impacting both
of those browsers. Of course, secure updata does that for
you if you have it. If you don't, you have
to do that manually. So we reminded you to take
care of business. So coming up on the program today,

(05:22):
we're gonna talk. We're gonna go deep dive in the
Ultimate Upgrade a little bit, and we're gonna tie this
into the tariffs a little because it's creating some uncertainty
for the Ultimate Upgrade sale as well. We're going to
break down those tariffs, like I said, Barney style for
you some real talk about how we're going to leave
the politics completely out of it. We don't care why
it's happening, we don't care who is doing it. We're
just gonna set all that up, so that's aftershock material.

(05:44):
We're going to set that all aside in the box
off to the side, and we are going to deal
without the emotion, with the raw facts of what this
is going to do and what is the intent, What
are they trying to accomplish, How is it going to
impact you in the short term, How will it impact
you in the long term? Do you care? We don't know.
That's up to you. And what does that mean for
the prices of the things that you're going to buy
right now? Because there's some pretty crazy I mean I

(06:05):
saw an article that said your next iPhone could cost
two three hundred dollars, Like maybe you would just decide
not to buy one, you know, I mean love me
an iPhone, but I mean for twenty three hundred dollars,
I might put a battery in my old one, because
pretty much that's what you get when you buy a
new iPhone, you get the same iPhone you had before

(06:26):
with a battery that works. It's pretty much what it is. Also,
Facebook is bringing the is ditching you should say, ditching
fact checkers and going to a community notes style content moderation.
So we're gonna give you the details on that, because
you're going to start to see this in your Facebook feeds.
So when you start to see community notes there, No,
you didn't slip off onto X. You just Elon invented

(06:49):
a better way to do it. And Facebook is going
to hitch on up to that bandwagon and take over
because you don't have to pay all these fact checkers.
And then we're going to wrap up the program with
any questions you guys have about tariffs, computers, how it's
going to impact sales, things like that, all the stuff
that we're going to talk about on the program today. Now,
somebody is saying they're hearing some weird audio, and I'm

(07:09):
not seeing any weird audio. So I am muted on
this tab here, I'm muted there. I'm just double checking
all my mutes, making sure that everything is muted. Somebody
said they heard some weird audio.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
That's the thing about technology is sometimes that it takes
your commands and suggestions and wants to do what it
wants to and not what you tell it to.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Yeah, and you're here in the microphone audio. You're not
here in the camera audio. So I've just confirmed a
snap right in front of it. Didn't get a spike.
So there we go at Winston. I think we're good,
So let me know if you're hearing anything weird at all.
Four zero, two, five, five, eight, eleven, tens number to
join us. So we have the ultimate upgrade sale. What
is the ultimate upgrade? Why is it? Why is it
the ultimate upgrade? We have a situation right now where

(07:52):
a lot of you listening are using Windows ten computers
still and you have six months left before your Windows
ten computer is gone the way the Dodo somebody every
week people ask me author, can you explain that again?
Why is this going to happen? In October? Microsoft is
going to stop releasing security updates for Windows ten. They're done.

(08:12):
You've had it for you know, a decade without paying
Microsoft a dime, and so Microsoft's like, we can't support
it free forever. We have to put a time limit
on this where you have to buy a new copy
of Windows and give us a little more money so
that we can pay the people that make the updates.
So we are going to stop updating Windows ten on
in October. That means in November, the second Tuesday of November,

(08:34):
there is not going to be a patch Tuesday for
Windows ten. All of the zero day vulnerabilities that all
of these bad guys are saving in their pocket right now.
They know, they know they exist. They're just not using
them right now because they're going to wait until October
when there's no more patches. Then they're going to turn
around and say, Okay, now that there's no more patches,
we're going to use these up these vulnerabilities to attack

(08:54):
people on Windows ten. So your security is going to
become exponentially weaker in October. Well, though I have antivirus,
isn't that great? Nope? All of your antivirus products, anything,
any reasonable anti virus product that is going to end
support for Windows ten. When Microsoft ends support for Windows ten,
well I don't care thor I just use it for
email anyway. That's all I'm going to do. Unfortunately, your

(09:17):
internet service provider is going to stop supporting email on
Windows ten in October. Your printer manufacturers are going to
stop making printers. Software manufacturers will stop allowing their programs
to run on Windows ten when you update them. Your
whole world ends in October. If you're on Windows ten,
yes you could get to November. Yes, you can get
to December. Yeah, maybe some things that you do will

(09:39):
still work, but increasingly, as time goes by, your security
levels are going to become exponentially lower. The odds of
you getting attacked are going to be higher. You're going
to come into the service center. So I got a virus,
and we can remove that for you, but we can't
do anything to prevent it from happening again tomorrow. So
rather than removing the virus, maybe we should just buy
a new computer. That's ridiculous. So I'm not buying a
new computer because I got a virus. You're going to

(10:01):
get another one, and another one and another one. So
that's why you have to upgrade. So now the challenge
is buying a new computer is kind of expensive, right,
I mean, you're talking about seven eight hundred dollars to
buy a good one. Then there's data transfer costs and
all kinds of other stuff. And then people ask us,
would you buy old computers? Would you buy my computer
back from me? And the answer is no, we don't
buy computers back. The old technology isn't really worth anything.

(10:23):
Have you ever tried to sell a computer on Facebook marketplace? Like?
You get nothing for them, nothing, Even new computer parts
don't sell for anywhere near retail in the secondary market
right now. That might change soon. We'll get into that
in the moment. So what we do at SHOCK is
we say, one time of year, you know, in the
holiday season, we have the Holiday Special, which is the biggest,

(10:44):
the baddest, the best of everything. It's a seventeen hundred
dollars computer. Oh thor I can't spend seventeen hundred dollars
on a computer. That's crazy. I don't need that much computer.
I don't want that much computer. Well, then the ultimate
upgrade is for you. The ultimate upgrade is how can
we create a computer that I would give to my
mom to use, that is good enough that I would
give it to a family member, And how cheaply, how

(11:05):
inexpensively can we sell that computer with your trade? So
you trade in any old computer to us. We don't
care what brand it is. We don't care if it's
a laptop or a desktopper and all in one, we
don't care. We you can trade any computer to us
for any of the ultimate upgrade models. So you don't
have to stay within class. You don't have to trade
a laptop to get a laptop or you know, weirdly
a mini to get a mini? How many of you

(11:27):
have minis? But you know you don't have to stay
within class. We just want to get an old computer.
Why because it gets you out of the HP or
the Dell or the Samsung or the Sony or whatever
you have. Now it gets you out of that model
and into a Shock modul or computer for only five
hundred and forty nine dollars. This is like you're getting
as much as two hundred dollars for your trade because

(11:49):
the same computer, the same Mini that you would if
you bought the same Mini that we were selling for
five forty nine right now, that Mini is normally eight hundred,
eight hundred and fifty dollars at Shock to buy that normally,
it is literally the endeavor. It's the mid range computer.
If you were to come in and buy the laptop
that we're selling for five forty nine, that's normally a
seven hundred dollars computer. There's two of them on the shelf.

(12:10):
There's one that's called the Resolute and then there's one
that's called the Ultimate Upgrade Laptop. But they're the same
exact computer. If you look at it, you're like, those
two are the same. Yeah, the exactly the same with
the same specs. Now, the only thing we do different
during the Ultimate Upgrade is you get a huge discount
for trading in an old, worn out computer. And again
we don't care what computer you trade. We don't take
any parts out of it. We don't use the components

(12:33):
in your old computer to make a new computer. So technically,
I guess it's not an upgrade in the sense of
we're not putting parts in your old computer to make
it better. It's an upgrade in the same sense that
when you get a new truck, it's an upgrade. Right,
you're trading in the old truck and you're getting a
new truck, and you're getting a little something for the
old truck. And so when you trade in your computer
at truck, you get a little something for that old

(12:53):
computer that you couldn't get anything for otherwise it would
normally give us to recycle for free. We're giving you
a discount off this new com and you get the
brand new machine for five forty nine. Now, but wait,
there's more. We actually are discounting all upgrade options as
well for the Ultimate Upgrade, So, for example, it comes

(13:14):
with a one hundred and twenty eight gig hard drive,
and you know that might not be big enough for
what you're doing. Well, for fifty bucks, you can double it.
For another fifty bucks, you can double it again. It
comes with eight gigs of memory. Maybe that's not enough,
maybe you want more for fifty bucks, or that's sixty bucks.
For sixty bucks, you can double the memory. For another
sixty bucks, you could double it again. You can go

(13:36):
all the way up to sixty four gigs of RAM
in the Mini. You can put back internal, backup hard
drives in them, and you can do all kinds of
crazy stuff to the Mini. If you want to see
how you can configure it, you can go to Shock
Innovations dot com, click on shop and specials and then
take a look. You can actually build one right on
the website. You can even order it there if you
want it to. But you can build it right on
the website so you can see all the pricing, get
a feel for kind of where you stand right so

(13:59):
the upgrade is easily. I mean, it's the second most
popular sale that we do at truck, second only to
the Holiday special as far as new computers go. It
is an amazing opportunity for those of you on Windows
ten to exit that Windows ten operating system and save
some money at the same time. Now, how does this
tie into tariffs and what we're seeing. Somebody did a

(14:22):
breakdown of an F one fifty and they said, yes,
an F one fifty is assembled in Detroit. Let's say,
but the components within the F one to fifty come
from twenty one different countries. So there's going to be
supply chain disruption, kind of COVID style supply chain disruption
as companies try to figure out ways to avoid the tear.
If you remember when you would get like some food
or something at the grocery store and it would be

(14:44):
in weird packaging, like unusual packaging, and you're like, that's
not the normal package for this stuff. Maybe you had
to hunt for it to find it because it looked
a little different. We're going to see weird stuff like that.
We're going to see like because I'm looking at like,
how can we what can we resource from inside the
United States, even if it's a little more expensive, so
and avoid a fifty four percent tariff because for let
me give you a specific example, the ten percent tariffs

(15:05):
that came down on China, recently. The manufacturers did not
lower their prices at all. The wholesalers did not lower
their prices at all. They passed the entire cost increase
on power supplies and cases, which are both sourced from
China directly to Shock. So we pay, you know, roughly

(15:27):
ten bucks more per computer now than we were paying
to build them three months ago. We didn't raise our
prices ten dollars, guys. That's why you never saw the
prices of anything really go up. We didn't raise our
prices ten dollars because of the ten percent tariff. We
just kind of ate the ten bucks and said, it's
the cost of doing business, I guess, and we continued
marching on. So, now that the tariffs are going to

(15:49):
be as high as fifty four percent, and if we
assume the manufacturers are not going to lower their price,
and if we assume that the wholesalers are not going
to lower their prices at all and take any of
the take any of the hit on their end, that
they're going to pass all that fifty four percent onto retailers.
That is an insurmountable price increase on retailers that they

(16:09):
will have to at least pass on a portion of
to consumers. This is where people get upset about. You know, well,
it's inflation. It's different than technically it's different than inflation.
But the price is going up. The price goes up.
The price is too dang high, right, Okay, So it's
all the same thing when it comes to your pocketbook
at the end of the day, whatever word we use
to describe it. So what we're seeing at Shrock now

(16:32):
is we're seeing a lot of companies purchased inventory ahead
of time to prepare for this uncertainty. They warehouse a
lot of inventory inside the United States, so it's already
been imported, and so there is a big glut of
supply right now for ahead of time in the supply chain.
That is going to allow companies to avoid pricing increases
for a period of time as they work through their

(16:54):
existing inventory. What we are seeing on the retail side
and the wholesale side, wholesalers are giving quantity limitations on
how many things we can buy. So weirdly, right now,
I can buy the ANTIQ computer cases that we used
to build your modular PCs. They're beautiful cases. We love them,
We've loved them for years. We can buy them cheaper

(17:14):
on Amazon in the retail channel than I can buy
them from my wholesalers by six dollars a case, not
a little bit, six bucks a case, and six dollars
when you're buying one hundred or a thousand cases at
a time, six bucks a unit really adds up fast.
It's just over ten percent of the cost of the case.
So I mean it's it's significant. Power supplies, you know,

(17:35):
same thing, They're up three four bucks apiece right now.
We bought a whole bunch of power supplies. Our wholesaler said,
you know, I'd recommend you buy as many of these
as you can now because the price is about to
go up again. So we bought a bunch, and now
you know, I'm seeing on Amazon the price of all
these power supplies that we sell has gone up four
or five six bucks. So if I was buying on Amazon,

(17:56):
I'd be paying four five six dollars. More. People are
legitimately seeing the prices of the items in their saved
Amazon carts going up. But the tariffs haven't taken effect yet.
They don't go into effect until the ninth. They may
not go into effect at all. So these limitations of
supply are the way that the wholesalers are trying to
stretch out their inventory, and we're going to tell you

(18:16):
why that's important. We're gonna take a quick break, but
when we come back as I'm going to tell you
why that's important and how that factors, and not just
to the ultimate upgrade special, but to everything else that
you're looking at purchasing for any other purpose in your
life as well. We're going to give you the lowdown
on how to navigate this. Coming up next on compute this.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
Remember the good old days when virus detection worked like
where's Waldo? Spot the virus and the striped shirt and
you win. Today's infections are changing hourly to avoid detection
and use social engineering to trick you into making mistakes.
Using yesterday's security to defend against today's threats is like
using leeches to stop an infection. It just doesn't work.

(18:55):
We recommend sofos intercept x anti virus backed by Shocks
Virus Free Guarantee. SOFOS uses the power of AI to
detect the patterns of a virus attack and responds with
Shock's custom actions that stop it fast. With SOFOS on
your PC, Mac, Android, or iOS device. You get the
state of the art protection you need to defend against

(19:17):
the most advanced attacks out there. In fact, if your
device gets a virus while running Sofos antivirus, Shock will
remove it for free, guaranteed it hasn't happened yet and
we intend to keep it that way. Ditch your dad's
antivirus and keep your device, data and identities safe with
Sofos and Shock innovations.

Speaker 3 (19:37):
If you can dream it, Shock Interactives website developers can
make it happen. Refresh your website, automate sales and marketing,
and grow your business today with Shock Interactive.

Speaker 4 (19:47):
You know your computer needs modern antivirus, and you know
using a VPN helps protect your identity online, But did
you know that all of that protection could be useless
if you're running outdated programs. We all run common free
software like Adobe Reader, Dropbox, Firefox, and Chrome.

Speaker 5 (20:04):
Every day.

Speaker 4 (20:05):
There are critical security updates for these common programs that
don't get automatically installed for up to two weeks. That's
an eternity in today's world. That's why Shock created Secure Updator.
Secure Update checks for and installs these critical updates every
eight hours, boosting your antivirus by closing off attack vectors
before they can be used to penetrate your computer. Go

Speaker 2 (20:58):
All right, folks, welcome back into computer this. My name
is Storre Shrock'm the owner of these Shrock Innovations computer
company with four locations to help you out when your
computer is misbehaving, when you're looking for a new machine,
when you need someone to you know, secure your equipment,
or if you're a business in need of is hilarious
because you know, we got a call from some law
office somewhere in town and they're like, we have a

(21:19):
hard drive that crash and we need the data recovered.
And money is not a Money is not a factor,
it's time. Time is a factor. And so of course
they call it on Friday. It's the only day of
the week that I take off, and you know, and
I kind of head up the data recovery labs. I'm like, great,
you know, get it, get it into the shop and
I can. I can diagnose it. I can through the
technician's help, I can diagnose it over the phone and

(21:40):
get it started doing whatever it needs to do. And
they're like, okay, I'll bring it on in and we'll
get to it this afternoon. They're like, that's not fast enough,
and there's we're gonna call our own it guy. We're like, okay,
where you're gonna ship it. We're the only show in
town where you're gonna ship it, because you're gonna ship
it somewhere and that's gonna be longer than this afternoon.
But okay. Uh. But the thing is, when you are
a business and you're dealing with consumer grade service levels,

(22:03):
you're getting a different level of service than if you
were a business dealing with business grade service levels. So
businesses have different needs and different requirements than consumers do,
and shock business is designed to meet those specific needs.
We have lots of businesses that use shocks. Consumer division
because they're like, wow, you guys are great, Like you
get a computers fixed fast, you build quality of machines.

(22:24):
This is wonderful. But it's like going to Best Buy
and buying HP desktops for your office and then just
hoping everything turns out okay. Why not instead have a
professional take that responsibility and make sure that your technology
is designed purposefully to do what you need to do. Unfortunately,
a lot of times that's expensive, right, So businesses are
like thor, I'd love to do that, but I can't

(22:45):
afford it, especially right now. I'm looking to cut corners
everywhere I can, which is why many businesses are shocked
when we turn around and say we can cut your
IT budget in half. And when we say we can
do that, guys, I'm going to give you an example
of a meeting we had this week. There's a telecommunications
provider in Omaha that was recently purchased by another telecommunications
provider ooh shocking, and they had four thousand customers using

(23:09):
their telephone systems in the Omaha and Lincoln metro area
or Omaha and Des Moines metro areas. They came to
us and said, hey, we have four thousand clients that
are using all these disparate services. We'd like to be
able to recommend you. Can we strike some kind of
a referral deal where we recommend you to them and
you know, we get a little kick or something. And

(23:29):
I'm like, we have referral bonuses. We do that all
the time. So okay, well we can work something out.
And he's oh, you know, so what's your pitch though,
I mean, how are you going to convert these people?
I'm like, well, we're going to tell them all we
can cut their IT budgets in half. Does that sound
like a good start? And they're like, wait, what now
we're handling their IT budget? Yeah. The company that called
us like, they're like, well can you do that for us? Sure,

(23:52):
it's not hard to do. You're getting you're getting absolutely
destroyed with what you're being overcharged by some of these companies,
so let's go ahead. And it's kind of like the
just I guess that's what the cost of government is, right, No, no, no, no, no, migo, no,
it's not not if you say no, not if you
say let's go over here, not if you buy this

(24:12):
instead of that, it works out really well. That's what
we do at Shock Business for zero, two, five, five, eight, eleven, ten, Dale,
Welcome to the program. How can I help you today
on compute this?

Speaker 6 (24:22):
Yes, that was just one with October update. How will
this affect cell phones? Oh?

Speaker 2 (24:31):
Go ahead?

Speaker 6 (24:31):
Sorry, So I'm curious if I have Google Mail and
Google brows on my cell phone. I don't have a computer,
just cell phone.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
Yeah. So this, the Windows ten sunset only affects devices
that are running Windows ten. So if your computer, for example,
was running Windows eleven, or if you have a cell
phone that's running Android or Apple's iOS, you're not impacted
by that at all. So the only people that need
to worry about there's are people who have had their
computers for over five, six, seven, eight years and have

(25:05):
Windows ten. The easiest way you can tell, thanks for
the call, Dale, that's a great question. The easiest way
that you can tell if you have Windows ten is
your start MANU that little Microsoft box. That symbol is
in the lower left hand corner of your screen, the
lower left hand corner of your screen, and so if
it's in the lower left hand corner of your screen,
you have Windows ten. If it's more towards the center
of the screen, then you have Windows eleven. It's just

(25:27):
a really easy way to tell there are of course,
you can write, click on the symbol and go to
system and it'll tell you exactly what you're running. And
we can always walk you through this too and help
you figure out can you upgrade to Windows eleven? Should
you upgrade to Windows eleven, or should you trade in
for the ultimate upgrade? So, Dale, that was a great question,
and it kind of leads me back into the whole
purpose of the ultimate upgrade is to make sure that

(25:47):
you have the opportunity to trade in some old, outdated
computer to get some value back out of it. So
right now, at Shock for only five forty nine, you
can do this now for the first time ever, I'm
throwing a caveat on the sale five point nine asterisk subscript,
cross wall supplies last. Why am I doing that? We

(26:10):
are seeing quantity limitations now. We ordered in a whole
ton of these things before we started the sale, so
we've got plenty right now. But I'm selling I don't know,
five six laptops a day, three four minis a day easy.
The businesses haven't even really got on board yet. They're
also all considering it because a lot of them have
Windows ten systems. It's like, let's replace all fourteen of

(26:31):
our computers. This will be great. I can order one
laptop a day now, and I can order five minis
a day. That's what my that's what I'm limited to,
and I have to wait a week for them to
get here when I order them. So we're I mean
we're doing it. We're ordering one waiting. You'll get the
train going. You know, we'll need them because at the
rate we're selling them, it's going to be pretty crazy.

(26:52):
But there is if unless the quantity limitations go away,
or if demand slows a bit, Unless one of those
two things happens, math is math, and we're going to
get to a point where we're taking orders that we
don't have units to physically deliver, and we're going to
tell customers when that time comes, we can get you
a unit. We can still order them, it's just slow.

(27:13):
It could be three or four weeks before you get
your computer. Because of the rate we after. We can
order five computers a week. I mean, you do the math.
We can five customers a week across four service centers.
That means one or five a day. One customer per day,
per service center will get a laptop. That's just how
it breaks down. So that's obviously not desirable. So I
have to say wall supplies last because the other variable

(27:33):
that we don't know, we don't know if these tariffs
are going to actually go into effect on the ninth
or not. Because it sounds like, why would you give
people this huge amount of time. Well, we're already seeing
countries like Vietnam and Cambodia come to the table to say,
in Israel, the EU actually wants to reduce auto tariffs now.
So countries are coming to the table and saying, okay,

(27:54):
we want to you know, we want to strike a deal. Canada,
they're they're like, we're going to lead the resistance. We
want all the coaches of the world to trade with
Canadia and we will exclude the United States. Nah, you know, okay, Canada,
you do that. It's like a South Park episode. You know,
you do that, It'll be fine. So what we're looking at, guys,

(28:16):
is the possibility that these tariffs may never go into
effect at all. It's just a negotiating tactic. If that happens,
then the whole stock market sell off was for nothing.

Speaker 6 (28:24):
Right.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
I bet you wish you'd have bought. Is it rockets
back up again? I bought some S and P five
hundred this week. I don't know about you, but that's
a whole that's an aftershock. Sorry went off on the
rails are. But where I'm going with this is, we
don't know what's going to happen if the tariffs do
take effect. We know we're going to see price increases.
There is no way around it. It's going to happen.

(28:45):
If the tariffs do not take effect, well, then that's
why we're seeing quantity limitations now. The wholesalers are trying
to stretch out how long their supply lasts because they're
not going to order stuff in the beginning when the
tariffs are in place, to have the tariffs removed the
next day and they're gonna pay all that tax now.
They're gonna wait as long as humanly possible, and they're
gonna stretch their inventories as long as humanly possible. So

(29:08):
if you need to go do a Sam's Club run
because you need Clorox wipes, that was me yesterday. Yeah,
I bought three of those big multi pack, those six
barrel ones. I bought three of those bad boys, because yeah,
we have Clox wipes for like the next three months.
Now we're good trash bags. Grab a couple bucks of
those dishwasher detergent pods and I just grab some of that.
Where do you think all these chemicals come from? Where

(29:30):
do you think the little plastic you know your medications go?
Get your ninety day prescriptions filled? Why where do you
think your medications are made? It ain't in America. So
if you want to avoid price increases, the time to
buy in bulk is now, and you know, don't go
buying stupid things that you're not gonna use. Somebody has

(29:51):
posted on here there's a dealership in town that they
had they were looking at the price of a car
and overnight the car went up one thousand dollars. And
I was like, please share the name of that dealer
because we all want to avoid them, because they're not
being honest, because yes, they're saying, well, the cost of
new vehicles coming to our lot is going to be higher,
so we're going to charge more. Now. That's like COVID

(30:11):
logic that got car dealerships into the fix they're in. Now,
you know, not to plug anybody here. But that's why
I only buy cars from Baxter. They treated us so
honestly and so fairly through all of COVID. They didn't
try to manipulate or you know, pad the prices or
jack the products, just the way it goes. In fact,
they gave me higher values on our trades because they

(30:31):
were able to sell them for more, and so they
actually passed that on to their customers. They actually treated
their customers well. Businesses don't always do that. So if
you find a business that does that, you should reward them,
and you should let people know about the ones that don't.
And so one of the things we're trying to do
at Truck, Yes, it's possible that we may end up
paying a lot more for ultimate upgrade laptops and minis

(30:53):
before the month is over. If that happens, we're going
to have to raise the price. We're doing everything that
we can do to make sure that doesn't happen, and
we are certainly not raising the prices ahead of time
because it's an opportunity for us to capitalize and make
a few extra bucks off customers that normally would just
trust us. So try to be a good guy if
you go through all this for zero, two, five, five, eight,

(31:15):
eleven ten. Coming up next on the program, here, Facebook
is ditching the fact checkers. They're going to go to
community Notes, which sounds super cool, But of course the
devil is in the details, and we're going to give
you all the details. Who has applied to become Community
Notes representatives, who was invited to apply. We're going to
tell you maybe Zuckerberg's not being quite as magnanimous as

(31:35):
you think. Coming up next on compute this.

Speaker 4 (31:38):
There are enough unused computers in storage to give every man, woman,
and child in the US and old, outdated and useless
computer system obsolete tablets and smartphones are nearly as bad.
Most people know not to throw them into the landfill
where they leak and contaminate, but it's hard to find
a place to safely recycle electronics. That's why Shrock Innovations

(31:59):
offers free recite for computers, laptops, phones, tablets, cords, and accessories.
In fact, only monitors and printers have a small recycling fee.

Speaker 5 (32:08):
Everything else is free.

Speaker 4 (32:10):
More importantly, Shock will securely delete any data from your
devices and hard drives before they are sent to a
certified recycling partner. Who will then repeat the wiping process
just to be saved. When you recycle your old technology
at Shrock, you know your identity and privacy are protected
and your equipment is being actually recycled by a certified
recycling partner. Shock is proud to recycle more eWays than

(32:33):
we produce annually, making a positive difference to our economy
and ecology. Do your part by dropping your old gear
at any Shock service center and be part of the
area's largest and most popular technology recycling program wish Shrock Innovations.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
Drive Advisor is a free program from Shock Innovations that
monitors your hard drives health and tells you if it's
going bad. Download it for free at drive advisor dot com.

Speaker 4 (33:00):
Probably rather drink the water at Camp La June then
get another call about the desperate need to renew your
cars expiring warranty.

Speaker 5 (33:07):
Who actually responds to those calls.

Speaker 4 (33:09):
Everyone wants to play the warranty game where you pay
money now just in case you need service later that
everyone hopes you won't need or use. It's such a waste.
It's no different with computers. Major manufacturers warranties have more
subscript crosses than a Sunday morning Church service batteries are exempt.
Hard drives must be completely dead and forget about anything

(33:30):
that they can remotely claim.

Speaker 5 (33:32):
As physical damage.

Speaker 4 (33:33):
That's why Shock warranties are different. When you purchase a
modular PC or a solid state laptop and extend your warranty,
we offer a no risk money back guarantee. If you
need the warranty, you will be thrilled to have it
if you don't use it, and we refund your money
automatically every time.

Speaker 5 (33:49):
That's right.

Speaker 4 (33:50):
We are so confident in the quality of our products
that our extended warranties are refundable. Many Shock customers use
their refunds to purchase another warranty or pocket the sea
and move on.

Speaker 5 (34:01):
We all know you'll need it to cover that expiring
car warranty. Anyway.

Speaker 4 (34:05):
Shock's refundable extended warranties just another way the Shrock Innovations
computer company makes your computer work for you.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
All right, guys, welcome back into compute this. I'm still
thor Shock, and we're still here doing all the computery stuff,
bringing you the news that's going on that's going to
concern you the most in your technology world, telling you
what's going to happen with these tariffs and how it's
going to happen, and why it's going to happen. If
you want a deeper dive on this, along with the
personalities and the stories and the backstories and everything else

(34:38):
that go into it, you can tune into The Aftershock. Today.
We're going to do a deep dive on the tariff situation,
how it's impacting the markets, the whole bit, what I
think is going to happen. And then I'm gonna take
a victory lap on a Ukraine story because the New
York Times apparently came out and said that everything that
we said on the Aftershock was true. So that means
that if the New York Times says it's true, it's

(34:58):
got to be true, right you know? I guess is
that bad when you're saying I'm right because the New
York Times agrees with me? Yeah? Yeah, maybe I shouldn't
take victory lap just yet. It might not be true
for zero two five five, eight eleven ten eight eight
eight two five zero two zero nine one. Speaking of
not true, don't you hate that? Okay? So we love Nana.

(35:19):
Nana is amazing, But Nana sees things on Facebook and
Nana will come to us with the most outlander stories
sometimes and say did you know, and we're like, that's
not true, Nana. I could just just listening to the story.
That's not true. It's a respected person. Well why are
they respected? Will they have a website? Okay, you know

(35:40):
they have a podcast? Okay, sort of thorn. I'm gonna
listen to him, you know, oh tuche Uh so you
want to see true things on Facebook. But there's my son.
He was, you know, getting into Pokemon cards and he
saw I guess they're hard to find, Like somebody gets
them in stock and then people, you know, thirty year

(36:01):
old men come in there and like buy all the
Pokemon cards, and then little kids come in. There's no
Pokemon cards to buy. So like Target put a quantity
limit on Pokemon cards so to prevent old men from
buying them all. I guess yeah. So because yeah, you
buy them and then you resell them on eBay for
like six times you know the cost of a box
or whatever. So my son finds this thing on Facebook marketplace.

(36:22):
It's a guy that's a card shop in Kansas City
that's going out of business and they're liquidating their Pokemon packs,
and he's got the opportunity to buy a bunch, the
opportunity to buy a bunch at a really cheap price,
so he, you know, ponies up his sixty bucks, he
borrows sixty bucks from mom, and you know, does the
whole thing. And then it turns out that it's a scam.
You got a Chinese shipping verification, which if you're getting

(36:43):
Pokemon cards from trying to other fake So yeah, you know,
it was like dispute the card, cancel the transaction, do
all those other things. Just you can't trust the stuff
you see on Facebook a lot of times, and so
Facebook brought in fact checkers during COVID You remember this,
like anything that was really they said was not true,
and anything that was false they said was true. So

(37:04):
it was like the anti fact checkers. And of course
now we have the benefit of twenty twenty hindsight. So
we're starting to see the peer reviewed studies that COVID
vaccines do cause cancer. We're starting to see the peer
reviewed studies with ninety thousand participants that say long COVID
is a side effect of the vaccine, it's not COVID.

(37:27):
We're starting to see the peer reviewed studies that say
literally came out last week and said monkey pox is
the side effect of the COVID vaccine. The FDA said that, well,
that's just our fk in they're saying those things. You know, okay, whatever,
trust them, you don't trust him whatever. Fact checkers couldn't
be trusted to actually check the facts without any political bias.

(37:49):
So Facebook is now going to the same kind of
system that Twitter has gone. Now X went to called
community notes, where trusted members of the community, people who
have been on X for a long time, people who
say things that are generally true, people who you generally
could trust. They're not trolls, people who have verified identities.
When they say something's true, you can call them on

(38:11):
the phone because you can find them on the internet
because they're real people. Fact checkers never gave you their phone,
or you couldn call them at home and say hey,
wait a minute, now, you couldn't do that so or verse.
So you couldn't send them a message even on the platform.
So now Facebook is going to go to community notes
like approach to have users in the community authenticate the

(38:32):
content on Facebook. So if something is not true, you
will have the opportunity to post that. However, that is
exempted from ads, so Pokemon card ads will still not
be able to have community notes on them. So there
you go, no community notes on advertisements. That's the first one.
The second thing is this is going to go up
across all of Facebook's properties, so we're talking Facebook, Instagram threads,

(38:56):
the whole bit posts on, you know, in a post
that gets a community note on it. So if I
post something and I say the sky is red, and
then a community note comes on there and says, actually,
throw the sky is blue and it's the way the
atmosphere filter is the pure sunlight, and you know, it's
like a prism and blah blah blah blah blah, and
they give me a really good community note. They're not

(39:17):
going to down rank my post because it took a
community note. So my post will still circulate just the
same as if no one had given it community notes
at all, even though it's not true. But underneath the
post it will have a whole let me of people
saying obviously the sky is blue and the sky is
a moron. And so then the reader, the intelligent person

(39:39):
nana can look at the post and say, well, this
post might not be true because these people say a
lot of people are saying this is not true. This
might not be true, and she can actually have that
critical feedback in the moment, but the post will still
circulate the same way. Over two hundred thousand people have
signed up to be a Community Note contributors, and of

(40:02):
course Meta invited their previous fact checkers to apply to
become Community Notes representatives. So you invited the people that
you couldn't trust in the first place to get it
right to be the inaugural Community Notes people. It'll come
out in the wash eventually. It's just one of those

(40:23):
ironic things where you just shake your head and think
that or maybe it was like a kiss off. Right.
We know we were paying you guys fat contracts to
be like fact checkers for us, and all these NGOs
were getting all this money from Facebook, and well that's
going to stop now, and you know we're going to
put in this new system called Community Notes. But you
guys were super valuable to our organization and we respect

(40:44):
you so much that if you would like to continue
verifying posts on Facebook and not get paid for it,
you are more than welcome to that. Here's your invitation code.
Maybe they went through a training program and they've seen
the light. Yeah, yeah, that could happen. That could happen. Yeah.
So two hundred thousand people, And isn't it weird how

(41:06):
it's always a round number, not two hundred and four,
two hundred and four thousand, three hundred and ninety seven people.
It's exactly two hundred thousand people have applied to be
did they say we're going to have two hundred thousand
open positions and then they invited the fact checkers first
and then gus So we're full. Now you can add
yourself to the you can apply and be added to
the queue, the waiting list, because I mean, let's be honest,

(41:27):
this is Facebook. It's going to take more than two
hundred thousand people to fact check the content of Facebook,
you know, from a community standpoint. But you know, I
will give Facebook and metacredit for this. This is a
step in the right direction. It's a step toward transparency.
It's a step toward not censoring people that you disagree with.
It's a step toward allowing viewpoints that are not from

(41:48):
your worldview into your feed. And you still might disagree
with them, but you can then put a community note
on it. And if you're a crazy cat lady, your
Karen or something, your community notes are going to make
you look really crazy and everyone's gonna be like, that's Karen,
you know. And if you're a thoughtful human being, your

(42:09):
community notes are going to become respected. And it's just
a way for the for the natural cream to rise
to the top. And I think I think it's a
good thing all the way around. A little late, but
it's a good thing for zero two, five, five, eight,
eleven ten. Stephanie, you're going to take your call here
real quick before we jump into break. How can I
help you on compute this?

Speaker 6 (42:26):
So when it comes to secure updata, every time I
every morning I get this.

Speaker 7 (42:35):
With Firefox, it says installer is.

Speaker 2 (42:38):
No longer responding, so retry or cancel.

Speaker 7 (42:43):
What is that?

Speaker 2 (42:44):
Well, if the if you're trying to install a program
and the installer stops responding, that's the installer is the
program that's installing Firefox on your computer. Now, my studio computer,
it uh, it doesn't really come out of my backpack
except for when I'm in the studio and it has
secure updata on it, so I have to open it up.
Five minutes before the show, because it's got a million
things that's going to download and install, and it's gonna

(43:06):
run rough that first five minutes because it's updating everything
to make sure I'm on a secure platform, so I
can tell you for certainty, we're with certainty that the
secure updator program is installing Firefox correctly. So this is
an issue I'm guessing with your computer now. Sometimes we
can see programs that won't install when Secure Data is

(43:28):
having trouble installing them. It's because the existing installer, the
existing installation of Firefox is corrupt. And so in that case,
what we would do, a customer would call us and
say THORIP, my Secure Data won't install Firefox, and then
we would either walk you through it, or we'd connect
over the shock desk and we would uninstall your Firefox
program from your computer. You won't lose your bookmarks or anything,
don't worry, but we would uninstall your Firefox and then

(43:50):
we would allow Secure Updata to install the new copy
after restarting the computer, and usually everything works out well
in that case. So, Stephanie, this is most likely the
case that you're existing fire Fox has a corruption and
that installer is choking on something. It's trying to remove
it to do something, and it's having a problem that
doesn't expect so it just sits there and it doesn't
know what to do. Then the computer says, this program

(44:12):
is just sitting here and not responding. What do you
want us to do with it? Do you want us
to end it? Do you want to wait? You know,
what do you want to do? And that's the message
that you're seeing. So my suggestion would be to uninstall
Firefox from the computer and then allow secure updata to
install the clean copy after you reboot.

Speaker 6 (44:27):
Okay, and I don't use Firefox, so it's not a
big deal, correct, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (44:32):
I mean, if you're not using it, then you could
open up secure update or you can even uncheck it.
It's always nice to have a backup browser on the
computer as long as you have two though, you know Firefox.
If you don't use Firefox, there's no you know, no
love affair there. You don't have to have it. Okay,
So I just can't s this yep, Okay, thank you, Hey,
thank you, Stephanie. Have a great afternoon. We'll talk to

(44:52):
you soon. For zero two five five eight eleven to
ten quick break. Guys, we're gonna come back and wrap
things up. We're gonna remind you about the ultimate upgrade.
Give you a couple the more details on how these
tariffs are going to impact and dale. Your call is
coming up next on Compute.

Speaker 4 (45:04):
This computer problems usually don't just suddenly happen. Most failures
usually start out as small issues with few or no symptoms.
Over time, they grow into error messages, blue screens, and
other problems that can be costly to fix. Shrock innovations
by annual preventative maintenance checkup catches those small problems now
before they can metastasize and become.

Speaker 5 (45:24):
Tomorrow's costly repairs.

Speaker 4 (45:26):

Speaker 4 (46:22):
Have you noticed that almost every piece of technology seems to.

Speaker 5 (46:25):
Do its best to be disposable?

Speaker 4 (46:27):
Every day people toss their phones, tablets, and other electronic
devices because they can't be repaired. Manufacturers have engineered their
products to fail on a schedule so they can extract
more money out of your family budget automatically.

Speaker 5 (46:41):
Every year or so. But what if it didn't have
to be that way.

Speaker 4 (46:44):
What if you could get the performance of today's fastest
computers with the expansion and upgrade options.

Speaker 5 (46:49):
You used to enjoy.

Speaker 4 (46:51):
You just described Shrck's modular desktop computers. Having the right
tool for the job is important, and Sharck's modular desktop

not uncommon for a short customer to be using the
same computer for a decade after they bought it. Modular
PCs are the most popular custom computers in the Midwest
or reason. When you are ready for your next computer,
stop in to check out the Modular lifestyle or shop
online at Shockinnovations dot com.

Speaker 2 (47:41):
All right, guys, wrapping up the program today. Thanks for
sticking with us through the show. We're here every Sunday morning,
Sunday afternoon, just depending on where you're listening, sometimes even
Saturday afternoon. You know, we're all over the place. Well
so look at me that way. We air in different
stations at different times, so you know, we got to
be I try not to say time sensing things like
good morning. I said good morning already on the show.

(48:02):
Then I tried out to say Sunday because like I said,
Sunday already. Dang it. So you know, I'm messing up
a little bit. I'm off my game. At least I
haven't said literally, I've said it several times actually, and
I've noticed and people are still rousing me online. But
I'm choosing not to talk about it anymore because I'm
literally tired of it. Four zero, two, five, five and
ten is a number to join us, Dale, Welcome to
the program. You have some questions about your desktop? How

(48:23):
can I help you on compute this today?

Speaker 6 (48:26):
Uh?

Speaker 7 (48:26):
Yeah, I actually told him I had a question, but
when it's actually Windows Office okay, And I'm thinking about
updating the desktop to get one from you. And I
also have already have a Windows eleven laptop but nice
it just is running libri. And so I was wondering
if there is a plus for me to buy the

(48:51):
three sixty five or one of those programs through you guys,
as opposed to buying it direct from from Microsoft, or
whether there's and also if for two computers on one
accounts their discounts available if you have.

Speaker 2 (49:09):
More than one or great question. So we've been we've
been holding the line trying to fight against the push
toward you know, a lot of our client a lot
of our customers don't like the idea that they have
to subscribe to Microsoft Office. They have to pay every
month or every year to have Office. They're used to
buying it and using it for a long period of time,
sometimes more than five years, and only paying for it

(49:30):
one time. And if you add up everything that you're
going to pay for an Office three sixty five subscription
over the years, it comes out to be about the same,
if not maybe a little more expensive than just buying
the software and then sitting on it. So right now
we're still selling bought and paid for copies of Office
at Shrock, which is not what a lot of other

(49:50):
shops are doing. A lot of other shops have gone
to the three sixty five model, where you pay for
what you're describing to use it on multiple computers. You
can get a single computer license pretty inexpensive, you know,
one hundred bucks a year, one hundred and ten something
like that. It just went up a little bit, so
I'm not sure in the exact pricing, but if you
want a multi compete like a family license, then you
pay a little bit more. It's like one hundred and

(50:11):
sixty one hundred and fifty a years somewhere in that neighborhood.
And then you can run it on like up to
three computers for example, So there are some discounts if
you if you go with multiple you know, if you
buy the different package. But you know, there's one hundred
plus different variants of Microsoft Office. So when it comes
to comparing prices, like does yours come with PowerPoint or not?

(50:31):
Does yours come with Excel or not, does yours come
with Access or not? You know, there's there's a ton
of different variants out there, and so comparing apples to
apples gets to be really difficult. But when it comes
right down to it, if you want to buy it
and use it for five years before you have to
toss it because it's the end of life, well then
just buy the software. So it's two three hundred bucks
for the software, and you know you can run it

(50:53):
on one computer for that price, but you've paid for it.
You're done paying for it. They can't raise the price
on you later. You know, it's you have it. If
you want to go to the subscription route so you
always have the latest software, I would encourage you to
go directly to Microsoft to get that from your Microsoft
account at Microsoft dot com. In the future, we may
end up offering this as a as a subscription service.

(51:16):
Especially because you know, Shock business gets a lot of
requests for this because for businesses it's just easier to
have it automatically updated all the time. Consumers don't care
so much one way or the other. So I would suggest,
if you really, if you want to do three sixty five,
go to Microsoft dot com to get it. There's lots
of places online you can buy it, but Microsoft dot com.
You're sure you're dealing with, you know, a legit company,

(51:36):
and that you're giving your credit card information to a
legit company because everyone else is just a reseller.

Speaker 7 (51:41):
Okay, gotcha?

Speaker 2 (51:44):
All right, Hey, thanks for the call, Dale. I appreciate
you taking the time. Two Dales in a week, I mean,
that's this is pretty awesome. A lot of Dale's. Do
you know that the guy that post processes the show
for kfour his name is Dale. Two. You know, lots
of Dales on the program this week. Hi Dale, Good
to see you all right, guys, So final notes here
on the what we were talking about in the show.
We've got the ultimate upgrade going on at Shock right now,

(52:05):
where you can trade in any old computer, any old tired,
worn out Windows ten even computer. We don't care, trade
it in for the ultimate upgrade, a brand new your
choice of a brand new solid state laptop. And it's
not a piece of junk either. I mean, this is
like the same laptops, the exact same laptop that we
would normally sell you all day every day. It's the

(52:26):
same unit. We didn't downgrade it or sell you an
ace er or some cheap garbage like you'll find at Walmart. Now,
if you prefer instead of desktop this year, rather than
doing a desktop tower, we're doing the mini. It's a
six inch by six inch computer that can do everything
the desktop computers can do. It's got dual hard drive bays,
it's got adjustable memory. It's just it's got all the ports,

(52:48):
it supports multiple monitors. I mean, it's an amazing device,
and they're either your choice for five point forty nine
with your trade. Now, we're gonna talk during the aftershock
more about the tariff situation. But I really do I
don't think you're going to see the cost of an
iPhone drump to twenty three hundred dollars if something like
that happens. We're not going to obviously be able to
sell minis or laptops for five hundred and forty nine dollars.

(53:10):
But again, I don't think that's gonna happen. What is
happening is quantity limitations. As wholesalers are trying to stretch
their supplies and make them last longer, they're telling us
we can't order as quickly as we're selling, so we're
selling down our inventory. Essentially, when we run out, we
run out. So if this is something you're interested in
doing on this trade in deal, I would super strongly

(53:30):
encourage you to take a look at our website, Shockinnovations
dot com, go to shop in specials, you do it online,
or just come into a service center and we'll take
care of you there. Stay tuned for the Aftershock coming
up in about ten minutes here, guys, and we'll see
you next weekend for another edition of Compute This
