Speaker 1 (00:01):
Shrock Innovations presents the midwest number one independent computer repair
company with service centers and Lincoln Omaha a billion des
moines and across the country via the Shrock Desk. This
is Compute This.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Good morning, folks, and welcome in to Compute this. My
name's Thor Schrock. I'm the owner of the Shrock Innovations
computer company. Numbers to join us on the program this morning,
four oh two, five five, eight eleven ten. If you're
outside of the metro area, you can reach us toll
free eight eight eight two five zero two zero nine one.
As we do every week, we'll be giving away a

(00:36):
twenty five dollars Shrock Innovations gift certificate at the conclusion
of the program to one lucky caller who calls in,
asks a question, makes a comment. Is part of the
program in some way. There is no such thing as
a silly question. Guys. We get lots of questions. In fact,
I'm gonna go over some of the questions that we
got during the Ultimate Upgrade sale today about the Ultimate
Upgrade in just about computers in general. It's almost like

(00:58):
people didn't know the sale was going going on. It
was crazy. It was the most popular sale that we
have computer sale that we have ever done. It surpassed
unit sales of the holiday special. If that tells you
how many computers that we sold for the ultimate upgrade.
Some of it was Windows eleven, you know, people with
older Windows ten computers were having their computers, you know,

(01:21):
pooping out. They're going to be gone and you only
have five months left. We're going to talk about that
on the program today. And some of it was tariff
front running. A lot of people believe that computers are
going to be a lot more expensive in the coming
months and maybe even years than they are now, and
some of the price increases that we've seen on individual components.
Certainly going to give you an update today on the
tariff situation. We're not going to spend a ton of

(01:42):
time on it because it's really really tough to get
into that without it getting political, and we don't want
to do politics on the radio show. We just want
to have a nice computer show that everybody can agree
and have fun and learn to use their technology, and
then later on after church we can go and beat
each other up about politics. That's usually how it goes
at Sunday brunch, right, So we can all do that later.
That's what the after Shock is for a little program

(02:03):
that we have here at Facebook dot com slash Shrock Innovations.
After the program. By the way, I do want to
welcome everybody watching online at Facebook dot com slash Shrock Innovations.
You can see the radio show there live. If you
prefer to watch your radio, it is more entertaining than
watching the the you know, the actual radio, but you
can actually see the facial expressions, and you know, I
try to jump into those comments from time to time

(02:24):
and answer questions and do what I can do to
make sure that everybody is entertained and informed and all
the questions get answered. So, if you did miss the
program last week, it is available on our website at
Shrock Innovations dot com. Just click on radio show and
then you can go and watch any of the previous
week shows after Shocks. All the videos are there. So
last week on the program, we updated you on how

(02:45):
the tariff driven supply chain is getting challenged a little
bit here and how we were seeing some of those
challenges starting to surface during the ultimate upgrade sale. It
wasn't anything that we couldn't manage, you know, COVID kind
of trained us to manage things that are difficult and this.
If we wouldn't have had the COVID experience, this would
have been like, oh my gosh, what are we gonna do.

(03:06):
This was like, well, we don't have to make it
ourselves yet, so I think we're okay. I'm not making
my own soap at this point, so I think we're solid,
you know. So it wasn't bad yet. However, during the
tariff up day, we'll let you know when you might
start to see some of those impacts and start start
impacting you a little bit more at impacting the prices
that you're paying for some of your day to day
essential things that you purchase every day. We also wrapped

(03:26):
up the Ultimate Upgrade Sale last week. As I mentioned,
the most popular computer sale ever done at Shrock Innovations.
The number of units it was ridiculous. At one point
we just stopped keeping track of the number of computers
in stock on the website because we were selling. I
was ordering the computers, and as soon as I had
a shipping confirmation, I would change the number of computers

(03:47):
available to order, and they were gone by the end
of the day. So we were literally hand to mouth,
ordering gone, Ordering gone, ordering gone. When we ended the sale,
we had over forty laptops on the way to the
service and all forty of them were sold. We had
seventeen minis on the way to the service center and
all of those were sold. And so we're just trying

(04:09):
to replenish our stock on our inventory a little bit,
to have some computers on hand just in case things
get a little squirrely later. So we're still ordering quite
a bit, but we are seeing quantity limitations we are seeing.
You know, whereas before I could order ten laptops, now
I can only order two at a time, or I
have to order two and then I have to go
to a different warehouse or a different wholesaler and get
another two. So I can still get ten, but I

(04:31):
have to order from five different wholesalers, you know. Just
weird things like that happening in the supply chain. Everybody's
trying to stretch their supply, their inventory to make it
last as long as possible. Also, last week on the show,
if you did miss the show, you missed the launch
of the first It's the first time we've done it
in years, but the first Surge protector sale that we've

(04:51):
done in a very long time. As you know, severe
weather season is upon us. We are going to see
and this is when people think about, you know, surges
and things like that. In reality, you know, this is
like not a bad time of the year for surges.
You know, there is no it's severe weather season. Make
sure you get your weather radio and your surge protector
are good to go. Doesn't matter because your surge protector

(05:12):
is actually getting the tar kicked out of it all
year long, especially in the winter time when you have
space heaters and things kicking on and off and creating
small surges inside your home. Now, in the past, we've
had what we called audible alert surge protectors. These were
really neat in that they had a pretty good jewel rating.
It was like sixteen hundred and seventeen hundred jewels of protection,

(05:32):
so it was a pretty good rating for those of
you who aren't aware the number of jewels of protection.
That's how much energy your surge protector can absorb before
it becomes a glorified extension court. A lot of people
think that surge protectors last forever, or that they reset,
or that they heal. None of that is true. There's

(05:53):
little filaments, little disks inside the surge protector that literally
burn themselves up absorbing surges, and when they are gone,
when they're no longer functioning, the current just goes right
through them and you just get a glorified extension cord. Now,
sometimes when that happens to a surge protector, you might
see if you're looking at your search protector right now,
you might see the light flickering. The power light just

(06:15):
kind of has a little blink or a little flicker
to it. That's an indication that your search protector is
no longer has been damaged, let's say, because it's possible
that it starts flickering right away and then it could
be more and more and more damaged until all the
jewels of protection are gone. We don't know when that happens.
We just know it's damaged. Right Number two, the power
light could be completely out, which is another indicator. Some

(06:36):
units have a protected light. But it's a little difficult
because sometimes on these Chinese search protectors. What we found
when we ordered we ordered a bunch. We ordered pretty
much every search protector from China that we could get,
and we tested them, and we found that some of
them just have a protected light. It's an LED. It
doesn't mean anything. It's just to make you feel better.
It has the word protected stamped under it in English,

(06:58):
and it's just an LED that stays on all all
the time. Regardless of how the surge protector is configured
or how well it's protecting you, it doesn't matter. So
we had that the protected light might be off, it
could be on, it could be flickering, it could be
dim as opposed to the power light, which might be bright,
and then the protected light might be dimmer. So those
are all indications that your search protector has taken some

(07:20):
damage and needs to be replaced. Now in Nebraska, in Iowa,
in the Midwest in general, we have some of the
wildest temperature fluctuations anywhere in the country. If you think
the weather in Alaska is severe, you know in Nebraska,
Iowa we can go from you know what, negative twenty
degrees negative thirty degrees this last winter, and in the

(07:43):
summertime we can go to one hundred and ten one
hundred and twenty plus humidity. So and in some days
those are you know, those of you who live here
know there are some days like this in the spring,
in the fall, where you will run your heater and
your air conditioner on the same day. In the morning,
there's a little of a chill in the air, so
you run the heater a little bit, and then by
the afternoon that sun gets up st it's hitting those windows,

(08:04):
it gets kind of warm in the house, and you
turn on the air condition to stay cool. So we
have some crazy temperature variations in Nebraska, which leads us
to be to be having all kinds of devices turning
on and off to maintain comfort in our homes. Humidifiers, dehumidifiers,
air conditioners, heaters, you know, space heaters, all these different things. Now,
when something turns on, if you've ever had, probably the

(08:27):
best example I can give you is I remember at
my grandma's house when I was little, when she would vacuum,
she would turn on the vacuum cleaner, and the lights
in the room would just get a little bit dimmer. Now,
you wouldn't really you notice it at first, but then
you just get used to it, and it was fine
while she was vacuuming, and then when she turned the
vacuum off, you know, they'd get bright again and you
would notice those transitions like in between. Right, those were surges,

(08:49):
So you had an energy dip and then a surge
of energy coming back to those devices. And you could
see it in the lights because the light bulb suddenly
got more power. They got a little bit brighter. You
know what else got more power? Did the TV get
a little more TV? Nope, it just kept on tving long.
The radio got a little more radio? No, No, it
just just kept playing the music. You know, all of

(09:11):
your appliances, your stereos, your you know everything, your computers,
all these things in the home, especially now that we
have so many devices that are fragile, so many fragile devices,
all these devices in your home, when they take a surge,
when they take damage like that, it can cause all
kinds of issues. Now, at first, you don't see anything,

(09:34):
and so a lot of people believe I don't need
a search protector anymore, because, yeah, we see these fluctuations,
and you have lightning might strike my house. If if
it's my time, it's my time. If God says blow
my computer up, well I guess I'm gonna get my
computer blown up. You know, my dad had an attitude
like that. I drove my grandma nuts. He would say
when he was alive, he would say, you know, I'm
not going to run to the basement during a tornado

(09:55):
because if it's my time to get sucked up by
a tornado, I guess it's my time. And my grandmother
was like, that is the dumbest thing, like get in
the basement. He just didn't want He was just lazy.
He didn't want to go to the basement. But you know,
people believe that about surges too, like if they're gonna happen,
there's no avoiding them. And you know, honestly, I take
these surges and I've never had a problem before, so
I'm sure it's fine. What you don't realize is that

(10:17):
in the past your equipment had a lot more surplus capacity.
Now what does that mean? Over time? In our desire
to make goods less expensive, to make them more cheaply,
to make them more you know, faster, make them quicker,
make them with less input, less materials, everything has gotten,

(10:38):
for lack of a better word, cheaper. Now I'll use
the example of your grandmother's avocado freezer. Now that avocado
color freezer, that thing you have, well, that freezer, it
will not die. Maybe you want to buy a new freezer.
Maybe you're tired of avocado. Maybe you would just like
something that has that modern luxury feature of frost free,

(11:00):
because Grandma's avocado freezer is certainly not frost free. In fact,
if you leave that thing shut for too long, eventually
it'll become an ice tomb and you're chipping the food
out with an ice pick. So you got to open
it up from time to time and thaw it out
and drink and I'll make sure it all stays nice
and clean and healthy. But that thing with it's ozone destroying,
nasty chemical coolant stuff, it just worked and works and works,

(11:25):
and and because of that, you're you never get rid
of the avocado freezer. They don't make things like that anymore.
Any of you who have purchased a freezer, like my
wife and I, we purchased a freezer during COVID. We've
replaced that freezer. We have two brand new freezers. One
of them has a weird rattle going on, and we
don't know why, but it seems to be working fine,

(11:47):
but it's got a rattle to it. We don't know.
We're just gonna let I guess, let it run ntil
it dies, But we bought those what a year and
a half ago, so they just don't make things like
they used to. And it's no different for electronics. The
power supplies go into computers are way more sensitive now,
they're way more fragile, and they're way less incapacity. So
your computer might need let's just say two hundred watts

(12:08):
to operate. Well, when you buy a shock modular computer,
we're giving you a four hundred and fifty WAT power
supply to run your two hundred WoT computer. That thinking,
you can punch that thing in the gut over and
over and over and over for years before that power
supply dips below two hundred effective watts and you start
to have problems. But when you buy a Dell or

(12:31):
a Sony, for example, I wanted to say Gateway for
some reason, but nobody buys Gateways anymore. If you're going
to buy an ACER, if you're going to buy an
HP S anything like that, the power supplies that come
with those computers. If your computer needs two hundred wats
to run, you get a two hundred and five WAT
power supply. And you know, because two hundred wats is

(12:51):
the peak, right, that's it doesn't need two hundred all
the time. That's just the peak. So we could maybe
get that power supply. It could take a beating down
to one hundred and ninety wats one hundred and ninety
one hundred and eighty five watts somewhere in there before
you start seeing problems, before you start experiencing random lockups,
blue screens, weird shutdown issues, all those things that you

(13:11):
see when computers start to die. Now, the other thing
is the technology that goes into computers has gotten smaller
and smaller and smaller over time. So you have less
and less and less power required by a hard drive
because you used to have spinning disks and moving arms
and all kinds of stuff. Now you just have microchips,
a lot less power required. And so rather than leaving
those power supplies at two hundred and fifty watts or

(13:35):
three hundred excuse me, guys, three hundred watts, three hundred
and fifty wats somewhere in that neighborhood, because the requirement
for the power has dropped so much, now we can
back all those power supplies down and give you a
little bit less because you don't need as much. So
now you're your computer maybe only needs one hundred and
fifty eight watts or one hundred and sixty watts to run,

(13:57):
We're gonna give you one hundred and seventy five watt power.
So apply now, and we're going to save a nickel
on every power supply we make, and you're going to
have the same manufacturer expected failure rate of eighteen months
on your power supply. You're going to see this over
and over and over again. So when you have a
computer that is working properly, when you have a computer

(14:20):
that is doing what you want it to do and
then suddenly it doesn't, it's not because something suddenly happened.
It's just, for example, that power supply has now crossed
a threshold because it just took surge after surge after surge,
and each surge maybe only reduced it a quarter of
a watt, just, I mean, just a tiny little bit.
Nothing you're going to notice. But at the end of
the day, all of a sudden, things just aren't working

(14:44):
like they used to work anymore. And as a result,
you end up with a computer that doesn't turn on,
you end up in the service center. We're quoting to
one hundred and fifty dollars power supply, you know which
we saw a twenty percent price increase on power supplies.
We have not raised prices yet. You know, all that
stuff starts factoring in. There's labor. We got to take
it out, We got to put it in. Can we
put a new power supply on your computer or doesn't

(15:06):
require a custom power supply? Most of your Dell and
HP power supplies are actually made in China, so we
have to get a custom power supply from China to
replace it with. So it gets complex sometimes. So wouldn't
it be better, especially right now, and this is a
theme that we're going to be hitting again and again
and again in the coming months until this tariff situation

(15:28):
is resolved. Wouldn't it just be better to keep what
you have working properly? Right? Wouldn't it be better to
just preserve what you have now so that it continues
to work for you into the future. Just a little
preventive maintenance, a little care, and this is one way
you can do that now. The older search protectors that

(15:50):
I mentioned that were the audible alert search protectors, those
were really neat because they would run for well until
they were beep. They would beep when they were bad
and you knew you had to replace them, they chirped
like a crick most annoying sound you've ever heard, but
you'd know to replace it. Now, the search protectors we're
offering today, unfortunately don't have that audible alert. Nobody on

(16:11):
the market makes that anymore. It's gone. But when we
were doing our testing, when we opened up these surge protectors,
we noticed there were some extra extra components in there.
Whenever you get something from China and you're like, why
are there extra parts in it? China doesn't just put
extra parts in something. It turns out we had stumbled
upon what was the Chinese Cadillac of surge protectors. So

(16:34):
there are three different types of surges that can hit
your computer. You have a standard typical boom boom surge.
You have just a line noise surge, which is like
dirty power that kind of thing. And then you've got
these small surges that you create inside the home. And
it turns out that the single vof unit inside that

(16:54):
protects you from surges can't protect you against all three equally.
So there are three read different mechanisms to protect you.
To protect the power going to your computer in the
Surge Protectors. Not only that, they also have USB ports,
so you can use them to charge your phones and
your tablets and have the same Surge protected power that way,
without having to use big bricks. You can just plug

(17:14):
the USB cord right in. There's a USB C port,
there's USB A ports. They're all three point four watt's
total power. Excuse me, three point four amps total power.
So I mean, if you're charging three devices, they'll charge
a little slower. If you're charging one device, it'll charge
really fast. So I mean it's a really good Surge
protector guys. Now, normally they're sixty nine ninety nine. They're

(17:36):
seventy dollars a Surge protector. As I mentioned, they are
the kind of the Cadillac versions of the Surge Protectors.
We tested a lot. We took them apart. We didn't
even use them in the service centers. Guys. We literally
threw them in the trash they were that bad. And
this is the only one when we tested it that
we said we need to carry this in the service
center because this is a nice Surge protector. And so
we are. Now the challenge that we have is we've

(17:58):
I ordered one hundred units. I ordered two fifty to
get them into the service center. The first set of
fifty was just to get our stock up just in
case they would go on available. Then I said, well,
you know what, we don't know how long we'll be
able to get these kind of things from China. Anymore
more on that here in the next couple segments of
the program. But maybe I should order another fifty and
then we could throw a little special out there. While

(18:18):
we can still get things for a reasonable price, we
could throw a little discount on there and maybe get
some people to get off the X and actually take
some proactive care to maintain not just their computers, but
you guys. I mean, the only reason that you can
go to Sam's Club and you can look at big
screen TVs, you can get a seventy inch TV for
like seven hundred dollars. Do you really think that's going

(18:39):
to be the case in a month and a half
or two months? So what kind of a search protector
do you have your television on? When's the last time
you looked back behind that thing your TV is on
to see if that light is blinking or flashing, or
if it's even on a search protector at all. So
if you have any electronics that are expensive, not just computers,

(18:59):
but stereos, televisions, gaming consoles, you know where you charge
your devices, your charging station, all those things, all those
areas should be protected by surge protectors. So what we're
doing at Shock right now is we have twenty five
percent off off of all the search protectors. We sold
about sixty units we sent out. We announced it on
the radio show last week. We didn't put a post

(19:21):
up on Facebook, we haven't sent an email yet. Just
off the radio show alone, we sold sixty percent of
what we had on what we had coming in. So
I've ordered some additional units. I'm still able to get them,
so I ordered some more. We're going to replenish our
inventory back to one hundred units kind of it's like
the ultimate upgrade sale all over again. We're gonna get
back up to one hundred units and then we're going

(19:42):
to keep going. So if you're interested in taking a
look at maybe if your search protectors are ready to
be replaced, this is a great opportunity. Not only are
you getting them at essentially you know pre tariff pricing.
We didn't raise the price on these because of tariffs
or anything. And the prices to us haven't gone up
on these units yet, which means they probably all domestic stock.

(20:02):
Now that's gonna change over time, and when that does change,
you'll be glad that you purchase these and you got
them before the prices went up. So if you want
to avoid I mean, it's not gonna be huge, right,
I mean some of you are gonna be saying thor
you know, if they go up ten bucks a search protector,
it's not gonna destroy me. I think I'm gonna be fine.
I can just chill out. There's no need to get
stressed about it. Totally understand. We have some people buying

(20:23):
four or five units because if you think about how
many you need in your house and how many areas
you have with high end electronics on them, Well, all
of a sudden you're like, well, I need one for
here and one for there, So you buy four or five,
and all of a sudden you're saving, you know, forty
fifty sixty dollars. It starts to add up a little bit.
And you know what, how many times right now do

(20:45):
you get to buy something not only pre tariff pricing,
but on sale on top of it for twenty five
percent off, so you can check those out. You can
actually buy them right on our website at Shrockinnovations dot com.
If you click on shop and then go to specials,
you're going to see everything we have on special at
Shock right now is listed in that category. This is
a great page to bookmark and keep an eye on because,

(21:06):
let me just tell you, there are some weird situations
that I'm able to purchase onesie two zie things here
and there, things that normally we wouldn't get the chance
to purchase, but the quantity limitations are actually working in
our favor. And so whoever normally buys all million of them,
well they can't. And so we're like, what is this
rise in seven computer here for seven hundred eight hundred

(21:26):
dollars that has really great specs? Like whoa, what is
this thing? Oh? I can get one of those? Let
me just buy one of those. It doesn't really fit
our normal product line, it doesn't fit the three model
line that we normally have. So we're just gonna throw
those items up on the specials page as we acquire them.
You can purchase right from the website Shock Innovations dot com,
and of course if you're not comfortable doing the online

(21:47):
shopping thing, you can always come into the service center.
We have them in this in stock in the service centers. Also,
you can just give us a call at any of
the service centers and we're happy to take your order
over the phone and set them aside for you to
pick up at your convenience. Four zero two five five
eight eleven ten eight to eight two five zero two
zero nine one. I went a little bit long here, guys,
so we're going to take a quick break when we
come back. Quick tariff update. What's happening in China? What

(22:11):
is happening in Los Angeles? How is it going to
affect what you see on the store shelves this month?
We're going to tell you coming up next on compute this.

Speaker 3 (22:20):
Have you noticed that almost every piece of technology seems
to do its best to be disposable? Every day people
talk their phones, tablets, and other electronic devices because they
can't be repaired. Manufacturers have engineered their products to fail
on a schedule so they can extract more money out
of your family budget automatically every year or so. But

(22:41):
what if it didn't have to be that way? What
if you could get the performance of today's fastest computers
with the expansion and upgrade options you used to enjoy.
You just described Shrock's modular desktop computers. Having the right
tool for the job is important, and Sharck's modular desktop
pieces packed the performance and flexibility to handing your computing
needs from just checking the email to running a complex business.

(23:05):
Modular desktops are engineered to be easily repaired with widely
available industry standard parts. Every component is selected intentionally to
give you years of upgrade and repair options. It is
not uncommon for a Shrock customer to be using the
same computer for a decade after they bought it. Modular
PCs are the most popular custom computers in the Midwest

(23:25):
for a reason. When you are ready for your next computer,
stop in to check out the modular lifestyle or shop
online at Shrocinnovations dot com.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
Alrighty, folks, welcome back in to compute this. My name's
Thor Schrock. I'm the owner of the Shrock Innovations computer company.
As I mentioned, you can shop online at Shrock Innovations
dot com. Pick up as many of those search protectors
as you like. One of the questions that we got
this week is is there a limit on how many
you can buy? We are not experiencing a quantity limitation
on these, so we didn't feel the need to impose
a quantity limitation. So if you need to, you can

(23:59):
buy two. If you need four, you can buy four.
Four is the most we've sold in one ticket so far,
so if you're gonna buy more than four, you could
be a record center. Just know that you're special if
that happens. Of course, we have four locations to help
you out. If you'd like to come in and take
a look at one of these search protectors or purchase
them in the service center. You can come to the
Original Shock Innovations just south of fourteenth and Pine Lake
Road in Lincoln. Also in Omaha one hundred and sixty

(24:21):
eighth in Burke Street in the Village Point Shopping Center.
You can also stop in in Papillion eighty fourth and
Highway three seventy and also in Des Moines, Western Moin
in Iowa ninety five hundred University Avenue. You can pick
up a search protector there as well. Four zero two five,
five eight eleven ten eight eight eight two five zero
two zero nine to one of the numbers to join
us on the program. So, as I mentioned, we're going

(24:43):
to do a quick update on tariffs, and guys, as
I say every week, this is not a political segment.
We're not going to get into are they good, are
they bad? Should they be here, should they not be here,
who's right, who's wrong? Inflation versus one time price increase,
None of that matters during this segment. All we're dealing
with in this segment is the actual impact that tariffs
are going to cause a disruption in the supply chain.

(25:05):
That's the whole point of a tariff. That's what they're
trying to do. They're trying to rejigger the manufacturing base
of the of the world essentially. So there's gonna be
some ramifications for that, some reverberations, and that's some Some
things are going to go up in price, and when
that happens, you want to make sure that you avoid
as many of those pricing increases as you can. One

(25:25):
price increase here on one increase there not a big deal.
If you get hit by all of them, you're going
to be spending a lot more in twenty twenty five
than you spent in twenty twenty four. So if you
know what's coming your way. A lot of times you
can prep for it a little bit, get ahead of it.
And then I'm not saying go out and buy a
million yards of toilet paper. Okay, you know, we don't
need to do COVID all over again. But you know,

(25:48):
one of the things I'm going to point out is
on Wednesday of this week, the last container ships from
China that set sail pre tariff with pre tariff goods
arrived in the port of Los Angeles. Once those ships
are unloaded, guys, there's not a whole lot of ships
going behind them. It looks like the shipping rate is
about is down about sixty percent. You know, my wife
and I just went to South Carolina for a little

(26:10):
you know, just to get away vacation, the two of us,
you know, we Nana and Jacob took care of the kiddos,
and you know, we just got away for three or
four days and we went to South Carolina, of course,
which has an operating port. And it was kind of funny.
I'm like, look, it's a customs house. That's where they
collect the tariffs. You know, it was kind of funny.
That looks smaller than I would have thought. For the
amount of tariffs they're collecting. And you know, it's just

(26:31):
I saw a container stacked on containers, stacked on containers,
and big container ships coming in, big container, empty container
ships going out. You know, it was just it was
a lot of shipping, right, And you get hit with
the magnitude when you see it yourself. You get hit
with the magnitude of how many goods are actually coming
into the United States of America and what that's going

(26:54):
to mean when those goods they're never they're not gonna
stop because they're still going to get some imported because
some people will buy what they need regardless of the price.
If the price goes up one hundred and forty five
percent on paper plates, and you have a kid's birthday party,
you're gonna spend you know, two and a half times
what you normally spent on paper If the paper plates
normally cost you, you know, three dollars for a bundle,
and all of a sudden you have to pay nine

(27:15):
dollars for the bundle, You're gonna still spend the nine
dollars on the bundle, right, You're gonna buy the plates.
But of all the things I'm seeing on YouTube, now, guys,
there are videos being have you ever dreamed about having
your own home based manufacturing business? And I'm like, boy,
yes I have. And here's the top thirty machines that
are for sale in China, which was kind of funny,
like you can buy the machine from China to make

(27:36):
the stuff at home. But anyway, there was a machine
there that that made socks. You put the thread and
the spindles on the top and the machine hit and hit.
You uploaded the photo or whatever you wanted on the
sock and you hit go the design and it would
make the sock. It would literally spin the sock, almost
like a three D sock printer. I'd be like, that's
an I don't really know what I would do with that,

(27:58):
but that's an interesting machine. Only costs four Okay, that's
pretty interesting. You know. There was one that was a
paper no joke, It was a paper plate machine and
it allowed you to stamp designs on paper plates. And
I looked at that machine and I thought, you know,
being able to do short run custom paper plates for
kids parties, that's like an Etsy dream business, right, I mean,

(28:19):
you could be you could be busy for days. I mean, okay,
I need I need twenty five plates for a kid's party,
and it's gonna be a frozen party, and we want
all Off on the plate. And you know, of course,
you know Disney ip aside. You know you're gonna stamp
all Off on the plate. Or you know you're gonna
stamp a snowman on the plate, and uh, you know,
maybe without a carrot for the nose or something, and uh,

(28:42):
and then you know, pass it off as a an
o left plate and send it out the door. You know,
whatever you're gonna do, You're not gonna have a frozen plate.
It's gonna be a winter princess plate. And you get
the idea, right, And so you're you're gonna be able
to make these custom plates. You can put the kid's
picture on plates or design. If it's like a soccer
club or something, you can put the logo for the

(29:04):
club on the plate. You know it. Just if you're
having a court of honor, for example, for a scout.
A lot of those happening right now, a lot of
guys getting their eagles. Well, imagine if you could make
your own custom plates for your eagle ceremony. Now would
you pay nine dollars for a bundle of twenty five
custom plates probably, And you're telling me that all I
have to do is buy this machine for like five

(29:25):
thousand dollars and I can upload the design of the
machine and hit the button and it just goes and
it prints out twenty five plates, like eight at a time.
That's my kind of manufacturing business right there. I can
handle that, you know, it was. I mean, these are
the kind of videos we're seeing in America now as
people are trying to look into These videos are being

(29:46):
made because people are searching for this stuff. They're searching
for how to do stuff in America. Again. You know,
we're kicking around the idea of wouldn't it be great
to have a made in America computer for the the centennial,
you know, for for the celebration, you know, when Trump's
gonna do the big party for the country. Wouldn't it
be cool if we had a super limited run like

(30:07):
ten units, twenty five units something like that, because they
would be stupid expensive. But like what if we could
make our own case we had a either three D
print it or you know, do an aluminum you know,
you know, cut it out of aluminum, like Route it.
What if we did would you know, they're all kinds
of crazy ideas we've come up with on how we
could do a made in America computer and it would
cost more, obviously, but it would just be really cool.

(30:28):
You know, it'd be fun. And so you know, everybody's
thinking about stuff like this now. And so you're starting
to see the ramifications of one hundred and forty five
percent tariffs on China. So, as I mentioned, the last
container ships are arriving. Now, what you're going to see
by about the tenth of the month. Between the tenth
and the thirtieth, you're going to start to see holes
on shelves. So you're gonna see it's not it's not

(30:48):
that you won't be able to buy paper plates, for example.
It's just that your selection of paper plates, the different
types of plates you would have normally got, you may
not be able to get the chinette chinette. You may
not be able to get the china. You might have
to go with the paper paper plates where you have
to do like three or four plates for the Fourth
of July barbecue just so it doesn't like fall over
when you put your hot dogs on it. You know,

(31:09):
you may not be able to get the stamped plastic
ones anymore. You might have to go with the actual
paper ones, you know, stuff like that. You're gonna start
to see some holes now inside China, there is a
lot of really interesting stuff going on, and we're gonna
go into this in the aftershock a little bit tonight
later or this afternoon. But there are factory closures happening
in China right now. Factories are shutting down because there

(31:31):
is no there are no orders. The way that the
Chinese factory economy works, employees work for a month, they
get paid at the end of the month. When the
orders get canceled or stop coming in, the businesses don't
have the money to pay the employees for the work
they did in the previous month. So because they're supposed
to get paid at the end of the month by
the American customer and they use that money to pay

(31:51):
their employees. Well, if the American customer says, canceled the order,
I don't want the stuff because I can't import it
with the tear if it wouldn't make sense, then there's
no payday for the factory, which means there is no
payday for the employees. The factory owners see this coming,
and they're actually running away from the factories. They're just
fleeing the factories, leaving the workers unpaid. And the workers
who are unpaid are obviously upset about this, and they're rioting.

(32:13):
They're actually having demonstrations outside the factories. Some of them
are burning the factories down. It's public unrest. It's mostly peaceful,
fiery protests in China, and these public riots are something
the CCP doesn't like, doesn't appreciate, and isn't going to
tolerate for very long. Meanwhile, you have companies like Apple

(32:33):
announcing that all of their United States production AirPods, iPads, iPhones,
all of them are being moved to India. Now, they're
still going to make these things in China, but those
are going to be sent to the rest of the world.
The ones in India are going to come to the
United States. So all of your Apple devices now are
going to be transitioning over to Indian manufacturing. It's rumored

(32:55):
that Apple is responsible for three million jobs in China
by itself, So even if they're only moving half of
the production to India, that's one point five million workers
in China that no longer have jobs. That are high
tech workers. These are workers with high end skills. They're educated,
college educated employees. So lots of lots of pain coming

(33:17):
to China. Honestly, there's some talk that there's gonna be
some discussions in Switzerland. Yeah, it just so happened that
we were there, and it just so happens that a
delegation from China was going to be there. Completely unally,
we're gonna talk to somebody else. It just turns out
we're gonna be in the same place at the same time.
So somebody said, you know, we should probably talk, and
so they are. I don't expect anything to come from this.
It sounds like it's gonna be primarily like, how do

(33:38):
we start the thawing process here a little bit? Because
China can't be seen as blinking first in China and
Trump is not gonna back down on the tariffs. He
said so on Wednesday, he's mister President, mister president, is
there any chance you're gonna back down on the tariffs
to get China to come to the table. Trump just
said no. And when when is the last time Trump

(33:59):
give a one word answer to anything. He's like, no,
and that was it. That was it. Nope, ain't gonna happen.
They didn't even say nope, that's too many syllables. Its
still one syllable. But he said no and just moved on,
and so it was. You know, it's is any shock
that they're meeting in Switzerland. Now, China's not coming to America.

(34:21):
You know, they're not. They're not coming to kiss the ring. Us.
Isn't sending a delegation to China. None of that's happening.
It's happening in neutral Switzerland. Four zero two five five
eight eleven ten eight eight eight two five zero two
zero nine one. Gonna take our second break of the
program here, guys. When we come back, you might recall
radio shows that we did oh golly last year toward

(34:42):
the end of the year when a new version of
Windows eleven came out, version two four h two. A
lot of you have two four h two because you
got it through safe upgrade, some of you did it
on your own, which is you know, bully for you,
good job, and many of you don't have it yet.
We still have computers that come in from maintenance checkups
or other problems that aren't not running two four h two.
Why Because Microsoft has determined that installing two four h

(35:06):
two on your computer could potentially cause a problem that
could cause a repair bill, and so they just start
choosing not to do it. Well, now enough time has
gone by that they kind of feel like we've waited
long enough. So now, as we predicted way back then,
you don't have a choice. Microsoft is going to force

(35:28):
install Windows eleven two four h two on your Windows
eleven computers, whether they're ready for it or not. So
there's some things you can do to prepare for that
if you want. Otherwise, you can procrastinate it, you can
delay it, but you can't cancel it. And one day
you're gonna wake up and the computer's just gonna do
it overnight. And if everything goes great, bully for you. Kudos.

(35:49):
Everything went well. And if you get up in the
morning and there's a blue screen, or your computer's in
a reboot loop, or your your computer boots up but
all your data has gone well, just know that you
got an update overnight. We're gonna tell you what's coming
your way coming up next.

Speaker 3 (36:01):
On compute this computer problems usually don't just suddenly happen.
Most failures usually start out as small issues with few
or no symptoms. Over time, they grow into error messages,
blue screens, and other problems that can be costly to fix.
Shrock innovations by annual preventative maintenance checkup catches those small
problems now before they can metastasize and become tomorrow's costly repairs.

(36:24):
During the maintenance check up, our experienced technicians perform up
to eight hours of tests, checks, automated repairs, and optimizations
that keep your computer at peak efficiency while identifying potential
issues while you still have options about how to handle them.
When your computer gets its first check up, it can
see it to a twenty five percent performance improvement and

(36:44):
leaves our service center cleaned, sanitized, and running better than
the day you bought it. Just About every complex device
requires maintenance. Your computer is no different, especially considering the
valuable information that passes through it every day. If you
have not had your computer maintenance in the past six months,
you are overdue. Stop in or call any of our
service centers to arrange a free pickup to ensure your

(37:06):
computer continues to work for you.

Speaker 2 (37:11):
All right, folks, welcome back in. Thanks for sticking whether
it's there through the break, we appreciate you being here
for computer This. My name's Thor Schrock. I'm the owner
of the Shrock Innovations computer company. We make computers, we
fix computers, We do business it support through our Shrock
Business division, at a price that is just ridiculously cheaper.
You know, we just had the opportunity to bid a

(37:33):
very large job against a large local competitor. And the
large local competitor is charging one hundred and nineteen dollars
per device per month to this company. They have thousands
of devices, so one hundred and nineteen dollars per device
per month is a huge contract. At Shock, we charge

(37:54):
five hundred dollars per device per year. So yeah, two
hundred dollars a month, five hundred bucks a year. It
is ridiculously cheaper to go with Shock Business than it
is with literally anybody else in the marketplace. And as
we say in the little tickers down here, we question
your sanity if you do not if you have a

(38:15):
business and you're not calling Jeff to get a quote
from Shark Business, or if you're in the West Des Moines,
Iowa area within thirty miles of that service center, if
you don't call Ryan over there in Des Moines and say, hey, Ryan,
I'd like to get a quote from my business needs.
You're just nuts. You're just throwing money away, and I
know some people are locked in. We got really close
to a major gas station chain that if I said
the name of it, you would you would know you've

(38:38):
eaten pizza from this gas station, Chann, I'll guarantee it.
And we got within a hair's whisper of getting that contract.
We lost it to a large local competitor. We lost
it because we didn't have a twenty four hour toll
free number. We're like, seriously, why didn't you say that?
Like I picked up the phone and I said, Alphonse,
I'll spin up a toll free number, send it to

(38:59):
Jeff's cell phone twenty four hours a day. Jeff appreciates that.
And then you rut up the phone. Now we have
a toll free number. But a boom, but a bang.
It's that easy, guys. Technology is a beautiful thing. But yeah,
we did not get that contract because of that. And
they're currently with their large local provider and when their
pumps go down at their gas station, they lose forty

(39:19):
thousand dollars an hour at some gas stations, and we
have literally had Shrock employees stop at these gas stations
to fuel up their Shock vehicles as they go to
another job for a different client and have to go
to a different gas station because the pumps are offline,
and you know, we kind of go in there. We
cheekily say, you know, would you like us to take
a look at it for you real quick? Like no, man,

(39:39):
We called the company. They're supposed to call us back,
but it's been like two hours. They're very very very
not happy. But unfortunately they signed a five year service agreement.
So ooh, five million dollar contract, five year service agreement,
and that oh gosh, we could have saved them so
much money. But I digress four zero two five five
eight eleven ten eight eight eight two five zero two

(39:59):
zero nine to one. One of the other things that
we do is we install updates on your computer, which
sounds really stupid, right, like what idiot can't install an update? Well,
when it comes to these big updates, these feature upgrades
is what they're called, Like two four h two, it's
a completely new operating system. Now, don't get confused, guys,
there's not some big new update coming. This is the

(40:20):
update that was released last fall. So when we talked
about safe upgrade last fall, and you all jumped on
that and we went through the big upgrade event and
it went super smooth, like it was the smoothest safe
upgrade we've ever done. We've gotten so good at doing this.
Alfonso software just worked so perfectly well well, we got
through it. We got everybody installed and upgraded and good
to go. Some people chose not to do it, like

(40:41):
I don't worry about it. Their computers were deemed not
ready for the update. Yet most of these computers, they
didn't get the update. Their higher end computers, their gaming computers,
their custom built computers, their computers that have been modified
from the original specification. So you ordered one thing, but
you got your added memory or hard drives or did
a different configuration. And as a result, Microsoft doesn't recognize

(41:02):
this is being like a Dell inspir On five thousand.
So we know that the Dell Insparn five thousand line
can take our update. So if you have a Dell
Insparn five thousand, you get the update. But if you
have a modified Dell Alienware gaming system, then you don't
get the update. Because we there's just not enough systems
out there like that we just don't know what's going
to happen, and so we need more testing, We need

(41:23):
more people, We need more guinea pigs to say, oh,
look an update, click click, and manually install it. And
then if their computer comes back online and that happens
enough times, we'll say, hey, it looks like everything is
working great here. I think we're good to go. So
when you have a situation like that, there's a lot
of computers out there still that have not received two
four h two automatically because Microsoft has deemed your computer

(41:46):
they don't have enough data or they have enough data
and they know it's going to cause a problem. But
Microsoft is now changing the rules. So now what's going
to happen is two four h two is going to
automatically install itself, whether you want it to or not.
As I mentioned, you can postpone it, you can schedule
it to install at a specific time, but you can't

(42:07):
cancel it. So Windows eleven users is according to zd
net dot com, Windows eleven users who have been avoiding
the problematic twenty twenty four update, and there have been
a lot of issues with it that have been corrected
through follow up updates, especially if you didn't install it properly,
we'll have no choice but to accept it. Last Friday,
Microsoft revealed that Windows eleven two four h two officially

(42:28):
released the last phase of its gradual rollout, which means
it's now heading for all users. Explains that the automatic
installation applies to individual users and not those in a
managed organization or enterprise. So if you have a managed
IT company like truck business managing your it, you don't
have to worry about this. But you're already running two

(42:49):
four h two if that's the case, because we would
have put you on that and installed the appropriate patches
to mitigate any issues so that you have a smooth experience,
because that's what managed IT providers do. If you're just
a regular home user, you may not have that help.
If you if you got safe upgrade, we did that
for you. We treated you like a business, and we
installed your computer your update, got all the subsequent updates

(43:10):
installed for it to make sure that your computer is
running the way it's supposed to run. But device is
running home and pro versions of Windows eleven that are
two three h two two to two h two or
two will receive the update automatically, and so It's hardly
a surprise. This happens every time we said it was

(43:31):
going to happen. People called and they're not going to
do that. They say it's not going to be automatic.
They say it's not going to be automatic yet. Well,
the yet is now over. So here's the thing. If
you would like us to install this update for you
on your computer, there's a few different ways that you
can do that. You can bring your computer into the
service center obviously, and we can just do it on

(43:51):
the bench for you. We charge ninety five dollars to
do it the whole update start to finish. If there's
an issue that's included, we take care of everything. We
test all your hardware first to make sure everything is
healthy so that we don't end up with a surprise
after the update is done. Surprise your hard drive died,
whooh shoot, Or surprise your power supply took too many
surges and now it's bad because you never replaced your
SARCH protector even though we had them on sale. That's rough.

(44:15):
You know, you don't want surprises, So we test everything first,
then we do the update. If you want to do
it yourself, you can still purchase the Safe upgrade software
from the Specials paids at Schrockinnovations dot com. That's the
same page you can go to take out the Surge Protectors,
by the way, so you can go to shop and
Specials and then see the safe upgrade software available there

(44:36):
for purchase. The do it yourself at home version is
much cheaper. It's like sixty bucks and you can do
it yourself at home. It walks you through it step
by step, and the best part is is if you
get stuck or you're not sure what to do and
you call us for help, you get a warranty with
the software. We're gonna help you run the software. Now,
if the software can't install the update because there's something
wrong with your computer and you have to come in, well,

(44:57):
then you get charged a little bit extra because we
actually have to have a technician and look at your
computer and then possibly fix a problem before we can
actually do the installation. But if you just need help
getting the software to install or making it run or
do whatever, we'll help you for free over the Shock desk.
So it's a pretty good deal there. So heads up
on that guys, two four h two. If you do
not already have it, you're gonna get it whether you

(45:18):
want it or not. Four zero two five five eight
eleven ten is the number to join us on the program.
Eight eight eight two five zero two zero nine to one.
I want to remind everyone to stay tuned here. After
the program, we're gonna be doing an aftershock. Stick with
us for just a few minutes there and give me,
give me five minutes to reset, so we're talking like
eight oh five, okay, eight o five eight oh six.

(45:39):
We'll have the aftershock up and running for you there
as well. On the after shock today, we're gonna go
a little bit deeper into the tariffs. I'm gonna share
whatever I go on vacation. I always notice things. It's
like when my brain slows down enough and I'm not
in the day to day everything that I see. You know,
every day, I notice different things. And we had a
lot of experiences. I got to exp it's a lot

(46:00):
of different service businesses, which is always inspiring for me,
and you know, it also lets me see, ooh gosh,
there's something we should be doing better or so doing
different because I didn't like it when this happened to me,
and I think we might be doing that to customers
so we don't want to do that anymore. So it
was kind of cool. So let's I'll share those stories
with you. We'll go a little bit deeper into what's
going on in China, how bad things are actually getting there.

(46:21):
And then also we'll do a bitcoin market crypto kind
of update for you, kind of let you know what's
going on there as well. So fun times on the Aftershock.
It'll be a shorter one, but it will be on
the show or on Facebook dot com slash Rock Innovations
at the conclusion of this program here all right, speaking
of conclusions, we're getting close to the end of the programmer,
so I need to take our final break. But when
we come back, you have five months left to get

(46:44):
out of your Windows ten computer. We're gonna tell you
we're Everyone says that, but then no one explains why,
Like why do you have what five months until? What
is like Y two K what's gonna happen? We're going
to tell you what's going on with Windows ten, where
it's going, why it's going, what you need to do
about it? Come up next on compute this.

Speaker 1 (47:02):
Today's fragile computers need maintenance more than ever.

Speaker 2 (47:05):
Your computer needs a maintenance check up every six months
to last beyond it's eighteen month expected lifespan.

Speaker 3 (47:10):
Shock Innovations solid state laptops are engineered locally for speed
and reliability you just can't get from the major national brands.
Each of our laptops starts off with an a Zeus chassis.
We remove the stock drives and memory and upgrade them
with higher performing components. This unlocks the full potential of
the laptop, making the unit up to twenty five percent faster.

(47:31):
This is why Shock solid state laptops last so much
longer than the competition. If your laptop starts out twenty
five percent faster, that means over time it doesn't slow
down nearly as fast.

Speaker 2 (47:45):
All righty guys, welcome back in final segment of the program.
Thank you for joining us through the hour today. I
really appreciate you being here and I value your participation
in the program as well. Four zero two five five
eight eleven ten number to join us on the show today.
Keep saying, and you see it in the ticker on
the website that we're on the website on the on
the radio show, that hey, you've only got this much

(48:07):
time left. Now it's five months left. Before your Windows
ten computer goes couput. So what's gonna happen five months
from now? In October? You're gonna hit the power button
for your computer and it's just gonna work. It's gonna
turn on, it's gonna boot, your programs are gonna run,
your printer's gonna print. Everything is just gonna work. Fine.
Now what's not gonna work is your security software. And

(48:28):
there'll be a lag on this because of course you've
purchased a subscription, right and so if you bought a
yearly subscription to your antivirus software, they're gonna let you
ride out that year. But then when you go to
renew it, you're gonna find that your renewal price is
either ridiculously expensive the Norton products can go up to
four hundred dollars for a multi device license, ridiculously expensive,

(48:49):
especially because the software is garbage all the way, to
just not having any option to renew whatsoever, like you
just can't do it. And there's a lot of reasons
that happens, but the main and as Microsoft kills off
all support for Windows ten in October of twenty five,
so in about five months when Microsoft stops releasing security patches.
It doesn't matter what you run for antivirus software. This

(49:12):
is like if you have an alarm system and there's
a back door in your house that doesn't have any
alarm sensors on it, and everybody knows the back door
is there, and everybody knows there's no lock on that door.
Why would I break in through the front door and
set off all your alarms when I could just walk
in the back door not set off any alarms at all,
take any of the stuff that I want to take,
especially if you have it on search protectors, because I
know it's good. It's good, high quality stuff that it's

(49:33):
gonna be expensive to buy somewhere else. I can just
take your electronics and walk out the back door. Well,
that's what's gonna happen to you. If you're still running
Windows ten after October and every month that you run it,
it's gonna get worse and worse and worse. As new
back doors are discovered, Microsoft is not going to patch them,
and then the bad guys will pass it around. So

(49:53):
you know, the top level bad guys find the back doors,
they sell the back doors to lower level guys. Script
kitties that don't know how to find the back doors
on their own, but they have money because they're scamming
you all day long, so they buy your back doors,
and all of a sudden you have antivirus, but the
viruses just keep showing up. Your antivirus keeps going off
like a Christmas tree that's removing viruses all the time.
Why is that, Well, it's because they're coming in the
back door. Well, why isn't it preventing it, Well, because

(50:17):
it can't. It doesn't know about the back door, and
there's no patch to close the back door, put a
lock on it, or put an alarm sensor on it.
So and it's never going to get patched. And eventually
you have so many backdoors on your device that it's
impossible to protect it. And so the anti virus companies,
rather than taking a black eye on trying to protect
something that's not able to be protected, well, they'll just

(50:39):
tell you no longer available. You have to upgrade two
in the new version, Windows eleven, which normally isn't a
big deal. You know, you did this from Windows seven.
You went to Windows ten. Not a big deal. We'll
just go to Windows eleven. I'm sure it's fine, except
Windows eleven has such a high security profile, so many
new security features were introduced in Windows eleven that it's
not compatible with some older hardware. Now by older hardware,

(51:01):
a lot of people have a weird definition of what
older means when it comes to electronics, Like if you
have an older freezer, you're thinking about the avocado green
freezer in Grandma's house. If you have an older computer,
you should be thinking about your twenty fifteen, twenty twenty,
twenty twenty two computer right twenty fifteen, if it's a

(51:22):
shock modular holiday special, you know, twenty twenty two to
twenty twenty three computer. If it's an HP or a
Dell or something like that, eighteen to twenty four months,
that's all they're intended to last for before they have
a problem and they go could put. That's why the
manufacturers give you a limited one year warranty where they
exclude things that are likely to fail, like the hard
drive or the battery. So unless you know the screen

(51:43):
just goes black for some reason, well then that's covered
as long as the whole screen is completely black and
not even partially lit. Did you run the diagnostic program
on the computer to fix the screen. I can't see
the screen, but did you run the program? Yeah? I
ran the program. What was the code it gave you
on the screen when the program completed successfully? King, you're

(52:04):
not joking, but we've had that discussion with del before.
We have to hook up an external monitor to get
the code, and then we can give them the code
and we can continue. So that's the kind of stuff
that you're going to be up against. When Windows ten
goes away. You're gonna get infected more often. You're gonna
have trouble finding replacement parts. You're gonna have trouble finding
devices that will work with your computer. Your internet provider

(52:27):
will no longer give you support when your email stops working.
When they find out you're running Windows ten, they'll say,
I'm sorry, we don't support that operating system anymore. We
can't help you, and that's just the end of it. So,
of course, we have a lot of people that are
running Windows ten, because Windows ten is a very good
operating system and there's really nothing wrong with the hardware
that runs Windows ten. Most of the computers that run
Windows ten are doing what you need them to do

(52:48):
right now. Under our normal rules of should I buy
a new computer thor if it's doing what you want
it to do. Don't buy a new computer well after October,
it's no longer going to be doing what you want
it to do. So what you Yeah, that's why the
