Speaker 1 (00:01):
Shrock Innovations presents the midwest number one independent computer repair
company with service centers and Lincoln oah Maha, PA Billion
des Moines and across the country via the Shrock desk.
This is Compute This.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Good morning, folks, welcome in to Compute this. My name
is Thora Schrock. I'm the owner of the Shrock Innovations
computer company. If you're looking to join us on the
program this morning, we encourage you to do that. We
have a twenty five dollars Shock Innovations gift certificate that
we give away at the conclusion of each program. The
numbers to join us this morning are four zero two
five five, eight eleven ten, as well as eight eight

(00:38):
eight two five zero two zero nine to one. So
there you go. That's how you can get on the program.
That's how you can get with all of the all
the questions that get your questions, get with all the questions.
Oh boy, that's what I'm trying to do too many
things at one time here because we're having a Facebook
streaming issue, which is totally my fault because I closed
a tab that I shouldn't have closed. And now that

(01:00):
so there were good to go there and we got
volumes because last week I didn't check that and everybody
got mad.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
I don't want to have volumes always good.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Facebook's always good people getting mad at me, as you know,
I don't like that. So Facebook dot com slash shrock
Innovations is where if you're curious, that's where you can
go to actually watch the program. Facebook dot com slash
shrock Innovations, And of course you can join the community
there of Shrockville where you can make comments, ask questions
and have not only my support and the support of

(01:29):
Shock staff, but the support of the other listeners as well.
So it's actually really cool to do. Now, we have
a great program plan for you guys today, some really
really interesting stuff today. But first of all, last week,
if you missed the program, it is available on our
website at Shrockannovations dot com. You can just click on
the radio show button up there, or on the mobile
appets and the little hamburger menu that's what they call

(01:50):
those three lines, that's the hamburger menu. But you can
click on that. You can click on the radio show
and it will give you the previous week's show. Of course,
last week there was not an aftershock. There will be
an aftershock at the conclusion of the program today. But
you can watch previous after shocks. You can watch previous
radio shows. If you miss it, it's a great place
to pick that up. Last week we talked about the
sale on sofas being almost over. In fact, guys, today

(02:13):
is the last day. I will probably honor it through Monday.
I don't like ending sales on Sundays because it's a
short day in the shop. It's we're only open from
noon to five, and we're typically staffed down a little
bit because of that. You know, we don't bring in
the full boat of employees for a five hour shift.
But so, well, let's call it tomorrow. We'll wrap it tomorrow.
But so today is effectively the last day I can

(02:33):
talk to you about the sale on sofas that we have.
Sofos is the security software that keeps your machine and
your phone and your tablet absolutely safe. Whether it's a Mac, PC, Linux,
whatever you've got, Sofas can secure it and keep it safe.
And it's backed by a huge team of software remediation engineers.
Not to mention, you're running all the local policies that

(02:53):
Shock Innovations has put together. Over time, we see all
of the things that happen to everybody when they come
with an infection. We know, for example, that the number
one reason that people come into the service center with
a problem security related problem is because they allowed somebody
to remote into their computer. Sometimes they don't admit it,
but you know the pop up hit their screen. They

(03:14):
called the eight hundred number, the guy from India, they
let him remote in. So you know, one of the
things that we decided to do with our SOFOS installation
is prohibit all remote access. So if somebody tries to
remote into your computer, even if you want them to,
and you try to get them to, you know, to
get them into your computer. So folks will deny that. Now,

(03:35):
of course we can override that, and we can. You know,
in some cases people remote into their computers regularly, like me.
So you wouldn't want to have a situation where your
SOFOS is blocking every attempt So of course we can
modify the policies to fit your lifestyle. But for the
average you know, grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle, mom, or dad
who is using the internet when somebody is trying to

(03:56):
trick them by forcing them to stop and call us
to say, hey, can you can you enable remote access
on my computer? It gives one of our technicians. You know,
we don't pry, but can I ask why. It's kind
of like if you were going to Walgreens and you
were buying a five hundred dollars money pack and you
were like seventy seven years old, the clerk at the
counter should at least say so big plans for the weekend.

(04:20):
You know, No, my Medicare is going to be canceled
if I don't send the medical the valid pack, gift
card thing the to the guy on the Internet's the
webs he needs it, you know, ma'am, Yeah, you're getting scammed.
I mean, my wife's scrapping and she was a store.
She was at Walmart trying to buy a money pack,
and the crook at the counter was like, you don't

(04:41):
look like someone who typically buys money packs. So yeah,
and then you know she was getting scammed. She was
totally getting scammed. And so we can actually stop a
lot of this from happening just by making you guys
give us a call and saying no, I got to
pop up on my screen it says I'm infected. I'm
on the phone with Microsoft right now. That's not Microsoft, ma'am. Oh, no,
it's Microsoft. They said they're Microsoft. I called them, They

(05:04):
didn't call me. Yeah, who gave you the number?

Speaker 4 (05:08):
You know?

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Okay, So Microsoft doesn't help people for free. Man, when
is the last time you've ever heard of Microsoft giving
you anything for free? In fact, aren't they the ones
ending your operating system in two months? You know, Windows
ten is going away. They usually don't give away things
for free, like support. My guess is at some point
the guy from Microsoft's gonna ask you for a lot
of money. Oh I don't know about that, you know.

(05:31):
And people they don't want to admit that they're wrong sometimes,
but they're always wrong, always, one hundred and one percent
of the time. It's a scammer, and we can stop
it from happening, or at least slow them down long
enough to think. But with sofos, so sometimes it even
protects you from yourself. So it's pretty awesome stuff. But
this is the last day that it's on sale essentially

(05:53):
for forty six percent off. So if you can get
it on the website if you like. If you do
buy it online, be sure that you get a hold
of somebody at the service center. You get an email
and at the bottom of the email it says, please
call us to schedule your installation time. But some people
don't call us, and then they send us an email
a week or two later and say, why haven't I
heard anything, And we're like, oh, and we try to
catch all the ones that we can. Like, when I

(06:14):
see a sofa sale come through at you know, eleven
thirty at night, pretty safe bet that it happened online,
and I can say, hey, head's up, staff, be sure
to call this customer and help them out. But you know,
we see hundreds of invoices a day, so it's you know,
sometimes tough for the staff to catch every single one.
So if you did buy it online, make sure you
get ahold of us that we can get it installed
on your device for you so you can get the
protection that you're paying for. But number two, if you

(06:36):
want to save that forty six percent, you know, time
is definitely running out. It's this is the last week
we're going to be talking about a sofa's sale on
the radio program. Speaking of antivirs, we have an update
on the bitdefender situation coming up for you here this
week as well. Last week we told you about chat
GPT's agent features and some of the things that can
go wrong with them, and a bunch of fun stories.

(06:59):
So it was a great show last week. Check it
out Shock Innovations dot com click on radio show to
see that. Now coming up this week, we've got an
update I can send on the bit deefender situation. We
had the holiday special prototype laptop arrived in the Paplion
service center and it's getting pretty good reviews from staff
so far. So we're still in the evaluation phases there,
but I can't share a ton of details with you,

(07:20):
but I can share a few things so I can
give you a little indication of what's coming. Also, one
of the things that is happening in the service centers
is the sale of new computers is picking up unseasonably fast,
and a lot of this has to do with Windows
ten being retired. Some of it's back to school stuff,
but we usually start to see a pop in computer
sales right around this time for back to school, but

(07:42):
we are seeing a pop that's wiping out our inventory
to the point where we're desperately restocking, like we have
some one service center I think is negative two endeavors
right now they've sold two more than they have and
so we have builds going out to them to get
them back to zero. You know, we're like, oh, shoot,
and it takes a little bit. It takes a week
for us to you know, accelerate the parts ordering to
get the parts in that we need to build the

(08:02):
computers to get them into the service centers faster. So
if you're looking for a new computer, number one, make
sure you check out that specials page at Shrockinnovations dot com.
Click on Shop and Specials. A lot of great deals
there that you can pick up on save a few bucks.
But if you're looking for something, don't wait till the
last minute, whether you're buying it from us or buying
it from a box store. We're seeing an unseasonable uptick

(08:23):
in the number of computers being sold right now. It's
not normal. It's not just shock that this is happening
to So just a heads up if you're gonna if
you're thinking about buying a new computer for someone from
back to school or for any reason, don't wait till
the last minute, because you end up getting something that
you don't want to get because that's what's available at
the last minute. So plan ahead on that one. Also

(08:44):
coming up on the program, the Windows ten deadline is
now two months away. We're gonna go over that because
there are some ways that you can keep Windows ten
if you want to. I've kind of been avoiding talking
about this because it's a really really really really really
really really really really really really really epically bad idea,

(09:06):
Like you don't want to do that. But if I
tell people there's a way, there's somebody who's gonna do it,
and then later on they're gonna they're gonna regret it
and it's gonna be bad. But that's also disingenuous for
me to not tell you that there's a way to
keep your Windows ten at the same breath telling you
Windows ten is about to expire, come by a new computer.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
You know?

Speaker 2 (09:24):
You know what I mean if I don't tell you
about the all the options on not being straight. So
we want to make sure that we're going to tell
you about all the options there. Also, there's a This
is gonna be a fun story of the day, guys,
because it gets everybody riled up. Have you heard of
the t app? It's been the number one app in
the Google App Store for a long time now, and

(09:45):
apparently the t app is an app that is a
women only app. You have to when you download it
and install it on your device to create your account,
you have to upload a picture of yourself to prove
that you're a woman. Apparently they have an algorithm that
knows what a woman is. But we won't go there
right now. We'll save that for the aftershock. But basically
you have to you have to be a woman to
use the t app, and you use the t app

(10:06):
to rate men that you have dated. So I don't
know what could possibly go wrong with an app full
of jaded lovers rating the men who have ghosted them
or decided to end the relationship in some way, shape
or form. Yeah, it's going to be interesting. Well, that
app got hacked. So if you ever contributed anything to

(10:29):
the t app, any reviews about men you've dated, if
you have an account on the t app. Getting to
the more serious side of things, now, your information is
no longer private, It is no longer anonymous. It is
being shared openly on the internet. There are websites that
people can search to find what the women of tea
in my area, and there's like hot or not websites
where you rate the women of tea, which is essentially

(10:52):
what they were doing to guys in the private app.
I mean, it's it's a complete role reversal of what
the t app was designed to do, and the hack
just got worse yesterday. There was some new information release yesterday,
so we're going to go over that for you as
well in the program. And also, so an interesting thought here,
people use chat gpt for all kinds of things. I
was thinking about doing some mods on my Mustang and

(11:14):
so I was asking chat gpt to give me approximate
costs including labor on you know, changing out axles and
half axles and stuff like that, and you know, what,
what's it going to cost? What kind of transmission modifications
do I need to do to double the horsepower on
the engine? I'm just assuming that my stock transmission is
not going to handle double the horse power it was

(11:34):
designed to handle. And I was correct, you know. So, Okay,
I don't know that much about cars. I'm not a
car got in a gear head. I can't do the
work myself. But common sense would tell you that if
you're going to double the horsepower of your car, maybe
you should make sure that the pulley wheels won't shatter,
or that the oil pump can actually pump the oil
under that kind of stress. You know, there's things like

(11:56):
that that you probably should check. How about cooling? Is
everything going to stay cool if we double the heat?
This is just logic problems, right, So chat GPT is
good with logic problems. So I asked chat GPT. It
gave me all these prices and things, and it's going
to be an a godly amount of money to do
what I want to do. So I put that on
the shelf for a minute here. But people ask chat
GPT all kinds of things, and sometimes it's not innocent,

(12:18):
little things like how to upgrade your Mustang. Sometimes it's
like so like if I had a profile on the
t app and some guy went on the internet and
was saying things about me that wasn't true, Like is
it illegal to kill him?

Speaker 4 (12:36):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (12:38):
Oh thanks, chat GPT. You know what you say to
chat GPT can and will be used against you in
a court of law. Interesting because people use chat GPT
for legal advice, they use it for medical advice. Don't
you have doctor patient confidentiality and attorney privilege to protect
people so they can ask questions about their situations that

(13:02):
doesn't exist with chat GPT. So there's a whole article
nine things you should never ask chat GPT about, Like
most of them were stupid, and so I was like,
I'm not going to go over that whole story, but
there was one on there, like the not killing people
one that was important. So I wanted to make sure
you knew do not ask chat GPT how to get
away with murder because the chat histories are not protected

(13:26):
by attorney client privilege. Neither would that by the way,
I don't think. But you know, after you've done it,
how do I cover it up? That's still a new crime.
So I shoot, you know it doesn't work either, So
just be careful with that. We're going to tell you
some things that you probably shouldn't ask chat GPT about
coming up on the program today as well. Four zero two, five, five,
eight eleven ten, Wesley, Welcome to the program. How can
I help you on compute this today?

Speaker 5 (13:48):
A week ago Friday, I picked up my laptop from
a maintenance checkup, okay, and when I got home, I
tried to with some links and I kept getting that
they crashed. Tried another one another one, another one. They
were all crashing. So then I went on the truck

(14:14):
website and tried to run one of your videos and
I got this frown and red backing. Well, I had
to do some work over the weekend, so I said,
I tried to remote in and I called the Omaha

(14:35):
store and the remote they couldn't get in.

Speaker 6 (14:38):
It was blocked.

Speaker 5 (14:39):
So I decided, I can get this done without going
on the internet, So I'll wait until Monday. Well, on Monday,
the following Monday, would is be still a week ago?
I decided I would keeck to make sure it was
doing the same thing, and and behold, the link worked.

(15:02):
And I tried another one. It works, another one another.
So what I think that detected what was going on
and corrected it and so it didn't have to take
my lab kind of back into the store.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Well, thank you for the call. Westler. You're absolutely right
that SOFOS does detect links that are problematic. So if
you if you try to click on a Facebook post,
for example, it's going to take you to an infection website.
And SOFOS knows it's an infection website, it's just not
going to let the website load now, it shouldn't happen
on every single website you try to go to. If
that was happening, if you if you couldn't remote in

(15:42):
and every website you tried to go to wouldn't open,
you might have a problem with the internet connection. You know,
there might be the whole Internet might be down. But
sofa shouldn't block everything, but it will definitely block problematic websites,
websites that are going to steal your information. It does
that by default that it's not an option. And this
is the thing that's beautiful. A lot of people. We
send out an email about the AI Sofos protection and

(16:06):
it's the same sofas that we've been selling for like
two years. It's the same thing, except the email that
I sent out actually listed all the things that sofos does.
And because sofos does everything so quietly, people thought it
was a new version of sofos that that we were
selling and they wanted to upgrade to the new version.

(16:27):
It's not a new version. It's the same version you
already have. But a lot, I mean, we got a
lot of phone calls and emails from people who thought
this was a new version of sofos they needed to
upgrade to and we sent the email to everybody because
we wanted everybody to be able to add their phones
and tablets, their secondary devices and stuff at the sale price.
So thank you for the call, Wesley. I appreciate it.
But SOFOS will definitely protect you in that situation. For zero, two, five, five,

(16:50):
eight eleven ten, we have Wesley in the drawing for
a twenty five dollars Shrock Innovations gift certificate. The Holiday
Special prototype arrived in Papillion. I can't tell you a
ton about it, but what I can tell you is
that we had we added down to two models to
evaluate and this was the one we were hoping was
going to work well because we liked it better. Uh
and we do. We like it a lot. It is

(17:11):
thirteen millimeters thick when closed, so that's one point three
centimeters or if you're American, that's just slightly wider than
your pinky finger. You know, when it's closed, it's slightly
wider than your pinky finger. Yeah, I guess if you
have a meat Paul, that might be not a good thing,
but you know, but the average person's pinky finger, I guess,

(17:33):
So that's really cool, it's it's ultra light. It does
have copilot functionality. Remember I tied back in the day
hold off on those co pilot PCs with the the
basically cell phone processors, and you don't want to do
that because there's going to be much better options coming.
This is the better option. So nice big fifteen inch screen,

(17:54):
high high resolution screen, So just an amazing package. Know
that there are good things coming this holiday season for
the holiday special. It's going to be a banner year
from a technology perspective. For zero two, five, five, eight,
eleven ten. We got to take our first break of
the program when we come back. Windows tens deadline is
two months away. There are a couple things that you
can do to extend the life of your Windows ten computer,

(18:16):
even with Microsoft's blessing. But should you do it, we'll
tell you coming up next on Compute this computer.

Speaker 7 (18:21):
Problems usually don't just suddenly happen.

Speaker 8 (18:24):
Most failures usually start out as small issues with few
or no symptoms.

Speaker 7 (18:28):
Over time, they grow.

Speaker 8 (18:29):
Into error messages, blue screens, and other problems that can
be costly to fix. Shrock innovations by annual preventative maintenance
check up catches those small problems now before they can
metastasize and become.

Speaker 7 (18:41):
Tomorrow's costly repairs.

Speaker 8 (18:43):
During the maintenance check up, our experienced technicians perform up
to eight hours of tests, checks, automated repairs, and optimizations
that keep your computer at peak efficiency while identifying potential
issues while you still have.

Speaker 7 (18:56):
Options about how to handle them.

Speaker 8 (18:58):
When your computer gets its first check up, it can
see up to a twenty five percent performance improvement and
leaves our service center cleaned, sanitized, and running better than
the day you bought it. Just About every complex device
requires maintenance. Your computer is no different, especially considering the
valuable information that passes through it every day. If you
have not had your computer maintenance in the past six months,

(19:20):
you are overdue. Stop in or call any of our
service centers to arrange a free pickup.

Speaker 7 (19:25):
To ensure your computer continues to work for you.

Speaker 4 (19:28):
Trock Innovations Data Recovery Labs saves the data the other
guys can't.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
The next time your.

Speaker 4 (19:33):
Hard drive, camera card, or flash drive fails, let Shrock
get your data back.

Speaker 8 (19:39):
Have you noticed that almost every piece of technology seems
to do its best to be disposable? Every day people
toss their phones tablets and other electronic devices because they
can't be repaired. Manufacturers have engineered their products to fail
on a schedule so they can extract more money out
of your family budget automatically.

Speaker 7 (19:58):
Every year or so. But what if it didn't have
to be that way.

Speaker 8 (20:01):
What if you could get the performance of today's fastest
computers with the expansion and upgrade options you used to
enjoy You just described Shruck's modular desktop computers. Having the
right tool for the job is important, and Shock's modular
desktop PCs pack the performance and flexibility to handle your
computing needs from just checking the email to running a

(20:22):
complex business. Modular desktops are engineered to be easily repaired
with widely available industry standard parts. Every component is selected
intentionally to give you years of upgrade and repair options.
It is not uncommon for a Shock customer to be
using the same computer for a decade after they bought it.
Modular PCs are the most popular custom computers in the

(20:43):
Midwest for a reason. When you are ready for your
next computer, stop in to check out the modular lifestyle
or shop online at Shockinnovations dot com.

Speaker 4 (20:53):
Now you can configure and purchase laptops desktops, tablets, and more,
all at the new Shockinnovations dot com.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
Alrighty folks, welcome back in to compute this. I don't
know those of you in Iowa probably don't really give
a ratsper end about this, but did anybody see the
Shields leak Shields accidentally posted coming soon pages for the
new alternate jerseys for the Huskers. Uh? Oh, it's the blackout.
It's all black jerseys, black helmet, black jersey, black pants,

(21:28):
white white letters, white stripes, and perhaps a white scripted
Huskers on the helmet. We don't know for sure, but
I can see the helmet wasn't in the picture. But yeah,
it's a blackout. So this is brilliant because everyone everybody
likes an alternate uniform. But you see, we have to
pick something that requires every person in Memorial Stadium to
buy a new piece of clothing. So now everybody's got

(21:51):
to buy black Husker gear and you have to wear
your blackout gear for that one game and then it's
back to red. So it's brilliant from a market From
a merch perspective, Walt Disney would love this.

Speaker 3 (22:01):
Nobody broke into Shields for.

Speaker 2 (22:02):
That, No, they didn't. Shields posted the posted it said
coming soon, like coming soon, and then it was like
what is that? Why is there a black Husker jersey there?
And everyone's like, oh rot row and they pulled it
down like no, So yeah, people and I probably don't
care about it. They're probably you know, like you know,
we don't we don't have those kind of gimmicks for
our fans. But yeah, they'll they'll milk you if you

(22:24):
let them. For zero two, five, five, eight eleven ten.
That's the number. To join us on the program today, Mark,
Welcome to the show. How can I help you on
compute this?

Speaker 9 (22:33):
Hi to or Hey, I'm a treasurer for a couple
of nonprofits, small nonprofits, and I've been using an older
version of quick Books. Yeah what what.

Speaker 2 (22:46):
You know?

Speaker 9 (22:47):
I wrote, don't want to pay this for subscription, So
I'm searching for something new that that I can put
on the desktop and just like that that are going
to cost me an armenal Like.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
I'm familiar with your heartache because the you know, quick
for those of you who don't know, QuickBooks is a
is basically a business accounting platform and they're pushing everything
to this. Everybody is pushing everything to a subscription model
now where you don't just buy the software, watch you
pay for it monthly. What I want to find out
is if peach Peachtree is really the only comparable software

(23:20):
to QuickBooks out there. Let me see if. I don't
know if they still make a desktop version though, So
I'm gonna take a look real quick. Peachtree from Sage.
Peachtree is now Sage fifty Accounting. Uh oh. Sage fifty
Accounting formerly Peachtree, is the classic software that simplifies your

(23:42):
everyday accounting task and provides insights to your businesses more efficiently.
So let me open their page real quick here and
see if I have to accept all cookies because those
euro guys make this. You ever wonder why you have
that pop up about cookies on every web page you
go to. It's because the European Union power the law
that made that said that people had to do that.
And yeah, it's thank you Europe. We appreciate it. Products

(24:06):
and solutions, products, Sage fifty. You know I'm looking here.
Sage fifty is what we want to get. So let
me click on stage fifty and I apologize. This is
super exciting for me to be doing this live on
the radio with everybody. But I'm just not super familiar
with the the pricing for Sage software. So no, it's

(24:29):
an annual subscription. Actually, yeah, so everything is. Everybody's got
a subscription now, but this is crazy. The annual subscription
for for Pro Accounting is six hundred and twenty five
dollars a year for one user. For Premium it's eleven
hundred dollars a year for one user. And for Quantum Accounting,

(24:51):
which I don't know what that means, like, you know,
Quantum accounting, it's eighteen and ninety six dollars a year.

Speaker 9 (24:58):
Yeah, fifty.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
Yeah, it's crazy. So unfortunately it sounds like, uh, you know,
given the cost. I'm familiar a little more familiar with
the quick Books cost because a lot of places use
quick Books and a lot of our Shock Business clients
use quick Books and we end up supporting it quite
a bit. And it's a common question, how can we
keep our desktop version of QuickBooks running. We have to
buy a new computer and we have to install QuickBooks,

(25:22):
but they don't let us activate it. So what do
we do? And you know, the guys over the guys
over at Shock Business find solutions for people. So that
would be the next step is if if you were
trying to find a way to thread the needle for
another year maybe or something a lot of times, we
can give you some support that'll do that. Unfortunately, eventually
you're gonna get sucked into the subscription.

Speaker 9 (25:43):
Model just that. Like I said, I got a couple,
you know, they're they're a couple of nonprofits. They're like
two or three transactions a months.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
You know, Yeah, that's frustrating. I mean you could you know,
oh yeah, because.

Speaker 9 (25:55):
Oh I guess, I guess Excel spread seats then so yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
Mean, or you could try quick. I mean, Quicken is
more of a of a personal version, but I mean
if there's only two or three transactions a month, you
might be able to get by with that.

Speaker 9 (26:06):
Yeah. Well the problem is that I was the accounts
wearing click in and then I upgrade to clickbooks, and
you can't go back from clickbooks back to clicking so
you know, I don't I thought I would need the
powered clickbooks, and then I didn't necessarily need it. But
once you're in clickbooks, you can't go back. So it's

(26:28):
I said, it's it's trying. I guess uh, you know,
I'll just have to buy my bottom lip and keep.
Maybe have to do it, just keep because the other
thing is that you lose all the data if you
have something that's not convertible.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
Yeah. Well, Mark, that's why they pay you the big bucks.

Speaker 9 (26:44):
Yeah, that's the volunteer for everything. I love it, love
it love listen to you guys.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
Sings all right, Hey, thank you Mark. I appreciate your
call today. Thanks for joining us on the program. Four
zero two five, five eight eleven tens number to join us.

Speaker 6 (26:55):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
Speaking of deadlines here, Windows ten is two months away
from being to put so again people ask, what does
that mean? Is October gonna come along and I'm going
to go turn on my computer and my Windows ten
is gonna be like, sorry, I won't boot now. Nope,
your Windows ten computer will boot and load and run
just fine, like it's any other Tuesday night. It's gonna
be fine. However, what ends up happening in October is

(27:18):
October is the last month that you will receive security
patches from Microsoft on the second Tuesday of the month.
After that second Tuesday, you will no longer get any
security Now. Microsoft will still make the security patches, They're
just not going to give them to you for free.
You can, under certain circumstances, continue to get those security patches.
Other things that happen when Windows ten goes end of life.

(27:40):
Every other company everywhere, whether it's an email provider, whether
it's a printer provider, whether it's a software support company,
they all base their support life cycles on the Microsoft
life cycle. So, for example, if you have quick Books
and you're trying to make that version of QuickBooks last
a lot longer, and you don't want to go to

(28:01):
the subscription model when you buy a new computer because
you have to go to Windows, people say well I
don't want to do that. I want to stay with
my Windows ten computer. Well, then QuickBooks might come along
and say, well, we no longer support Windows ten, so
you can stay on it. But if you have a problem,
you don't have any support from QuickBooks anymore. And your
email provider, well, if you're on Windows ten, we can't

(28:22):
support you. We don't support Windows ten. And your printer provider,
I can't get my prinater connected, well, we don't support you.
You're on Windows ten. Sorry, we don't support Windows ten anymore.
Those plans for every other company under the sun are
not going to change, which is why it's a really
bad idea to stay on Windows ten. After the fact.
You know, not all of us have a new car warranty.
You see, not all of us have purchased that valuable

(28:44):
extended warranty that we've all heard about. But when you're
running a computer with in a business environment, especially, and
you're saying, wow, for thirty dollars for a year, I
can keep my Windows ten device, that seems awful tempting
when you're looking at the thirty dollars versus buying a
new computer. But here's what you have to do in
order to keep your Windows ten device. Number One, you

(29:06):
must create a Microsoft account. There is no if and
or but about it. You are going to create a
Microsoft account. That means you're going to have a one
drive account. That means Microsoft is going to start saving
everything automatically in your one drive folders and not your
user folders on your local computer, and you won't have
a choice about that. Number two. Once you have the
Microsoft account, your log in when you start your computer

(29:28):
will require you to enter a pinner pass word every
time you turn on the computer. That is non negotiable.
There is no way around that. Number Three. Once you
have created the Microsoft account, then you will have the
privilege of giving Microsoft thirty dollars in order to receive
the updates that they're going to make anyway for government
users and other things. So you'll still then you'll get

(29:48):
the security updates, which will at least maintain the platform
that you're on. But your antivirus provider is going to
tell your Windows ten support is dead. Sorry, we're moving on,
or this is kind of a darker side of things
which come on when when's the last time the darker
side of things hasn't actually happened? Okay, imagine that you're

(30:09):
a company that says, well, this guy's obviously willing to
pay thirty dollars to keep his Windows ten. I bet
he pays five bucks to keep his HP printer. I
bet he'd pay fifty bucks to keep his quick book software.
I mean, yeah, so if you're how much would you
pay to keep your antivirus software so you don't have to,
you know, subscribe to something new that's a horrible wormhole.

(30:32):
Oh yeah, I mean it's gonna get nasty. That's why
I'm like, guys, do not screw around with this. So
you can stay on Windows ten if you create a
Microsoft account then pay Microsoft thirty dollars. Then you can
stay on for one year. There will be options to
continue after that, but the prices get exponentially higher to
the point where it's just stupid to not buy a
new computer. Most people are going to buy a new

(30:53):
computer an exit Windows ten. Not to mention the fact
that when you leave the Windows ten ecosystem, Windows eleven
is where it's all. It's where all the AI stuff
is happening. Copilot is built into the computer. Now. We
had the story last week where you can use Copilot
with your Edge browser and actually have Copilot access documents
and browser windows and things on your computer to give

(31:14):
you the information and analysis that you need. It can
actually create the spreadsheet for you, so that you know,
if you're having to do a nonprofit accounting and you
have to recreate everything on spreadsheets, you can actually ask
Copilot to go look at your quick books data and
compile it into a spreadsheet for you. Of course, you
want to double check the work asterisk asterisk crosscross, you
know some restrictions apply. Double checkchat GPT. It can make

(31:36):
mistakes but those are the kind of that's the kind
of power that's coming for your desktop. And we've told
you about this for over a year now. That's why
last year's holiday special was an AI equipped model. We
knew this was coming. That's why this year's holiday special
is an AI equipped model. We know it's here. That's
why your Windows ten computer is literally it's like a

(31:56):
black and white television. Within a year from now, it's
going to be a black and white TV. And you
know what, when I was a kid and I didn't
have a TV in my room and there was an
extra black and white TV somewhere down there, I didn't
care that it smoked a little bit. I wanted that
TV in my room. Yes it was a black and
white TV, and yes the screen was only five inches.
It was one of those portable ones. But boy, I
put that sucker at the end of my bed and

(32:17):
I watched Night Court, you know, because that's what that Yeah, well,
for those of you who were alive in the nineties.

Speaker 3 (32:23):
I know what night Court is, Okay. I had to
think about it for a sec.

Speaker 2 (32:26):
Yeah, I mean it was the only thing that was
on late at night, and you watched Saturday Night live
on Saturday nights, and then there was the late night shows.
You could watch those. They were actually funny back then.
You know, there was Star Trek the next Generation. Yeah,
that was always on. Yeah, that was on somewhere all
the time. That was on the UHF dial. Usually you
can find that one, and that would say when you

(32:46):
actually had to turn to KPTM channel forty two on
the UHF dial with their little loop antenna. Man, I'm
going back in time now for zero two, five, five, eleven, ten.
Let's stop me now, all right, I'm gonna take a
quick break in reset so I can get back into
the current century. And when we come back, we've got
Bill coming up here on the program as well as
well as the t APP. If you have not heard

(33:08):
about what's going on with this app, guys, this is
the story that is going to make you smile, make
you angry, and make you concerned all at the same time.
Because maybe you've been rated on the t APP and
you just don't know it. We're going to tell you
how you can find out.

Speaker 7 (33:24):
Coming up next time, compute this shock innovations.

Speaker 8 (33:27):
Solid state laptops are engineered locally for speed and reliability.
You just can't get from the major national brands. Each
of our laptops starts off with an azoos chassis. We
remove the stock drives and memory and upgrade them with
higher performing components. This unlocks the full potential of the laptop,
making the unit up to twenty five percent faster.

Speaker 7 (33:48):
This is why Shock solid state laptops last so much
longer than the competition.

Speaker 8 (33:53):
If your laptop starts out twenty five percent faster, that
means over time, it doesn't slow down nearly as fast.

Speaker 4 (34:00):
Shrock Innovations repair technicians also make house calls. Make an
appointment and let us bring our award winning computer support
right to your home or business.

Speaker 8 (34:08):

and the tricks to get your system repaired.

Speaker 7 (34:29):

Speaker 8 (34:32):
Even so manufacturers can take up to twenty one days
to fix your computer.

Speaker 7 (34:36):
We'll give you the option of a fast local.

Speaker 8 (34:38):

with a loner laptop to use while you wait. We
can even back up your data before we ship your computer,
just in case.

Speaker 7 (34:47):

Speaker 8 (34:50):
Shrock tests your computer when it comes back from repair

Speaker 7 (34:56):
Of your hardware works like new.

Speaker 8 (34:58):
There's a reason Shrock Innovations is consistently voted the best
in town. Whenever you need help, wherever you need it,
Shrock Innovations makes your computer work for.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
You already, folks, thanks for sticking with us through the
break there. My name's Thor Schrock. I'm the owner of
the Schrock Innovations Computer Company. Where we have multiple service
centers that can help you out. Lincoln, Omaha, Papillion, West,
des Moines. All the benches have open bench spots right now,
but they are starting to get busy with a lot

(35:29):
of back to school, a lot of maintenance, a lot
of new computers, things like that that we've talked about already.
For zero two, five, five, eight, eleven, ten. We've got
Blaine on the line, and Blaine had a great question.
He asked he picked up his new Ultimate upgrade from
Shrock and it has a Firefox insalt. We pre install Firefox,
but we set the homepages for all the browsers to
be the Shrock homepage Shrocannovations dot com, which is pretty common.

(35:52):
If you buy an HP you get the HP one,
if you buy a del you get the Dell one,
you know whatever, but he wants it to be the
actual home page that is default for Firefox. And it
was one of those things where I've never really looked
what is the default one? So basically, the default for

(36:12):
Firefox is the new tab page which opens when you
start Firefox, click the home button to open a window.
You can customize it, of course by putting in a
specific URL. And I'm gonna pop my Firefox browser right
now to see if there's a way to reset this,
because of course the browser on my laptop is going
to go directly to Shrock Innovations dot com. And you know,

(36:32):
I don't have a problem with that for you, Blane,
you know.

Speaker 10 (36:36):
See see, I use Firefox, but I set my homepage
to Google just because that was the site that I
used the most, so use it. I use Firefox, but
I also have like a bunch of extensions on it,
so I'm probably not the best okay authority.

Speaker 2 (36:49):
So the the way we change this, uh so, Blaine,
the way you can fix this on your computer is
we're going to go to the same page where you
can set the homepage. I think you said you were
in there when I talked to you on during the break,
But basically, you're gonna go into settings and you're gonna
go to the home menu on the left side, and
it's gonna say new windows and tabs. Right now, it's

(37:09):
set to custom URLs, which is the Showcannovations dot com.
If you click on the words custom URLs, you can
scroll down to Firefox Home default, which is just the
blank Firefox page that you're used to seeing there. So
hopefully that straightens that out for you.

Speaker 5 (37:26):
Blaine.

Speaker 2 (37:26):
I appreciate your call and thanks for joining us on
the program today. Four zero two, five, five, eight eleven ten.
We got Blaine in the drawing as well for a
twenty five dollars Shrak Innovations gift certificate. Must be nice.
Blaine buy as a computer in April and just now
gets around to picking it up. He's got stuff going on.
He's a busy man. Nah, he's out of town, so
he was able to convenient for him to come in
and get it now. But I'm just rasing him just

(37:48):
a little bit. Four zero two, five to five, eight
eleven tens number to join us, so.

Speaker 3 (37:52):
Real quick, guys.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
The t app tea It was the number one app
in the Apple App Store for a while for weeks.
But essentially what this app allows people to do is
you can only you can only use the app if
you're a woman, So it's considered a safe space for
women where you install it on your phone and then
as part of setting up the account, you have to

(38:14):
upload your photo ID or selfies, you know, some kind
of you know, picture of yourself. Right, So I'll want
you for a moment. Just this is going to become
important later to imagine when you're you're setting up a
new app on your phone, the t app, which specifically
allows you to rate men that you have been on
dates with. You can red flag them, you can green

(38:36):
flag them. You can talk about how awful they were,
you can you can share details about how your date went.
You can check and see. There's like a social aspect
of it where you can message other women. So if
there's multiple women dating the same guy, you guys can
link up and like compare notes and be like, oh,
I didn't realize we're all dating the same guy. What
a player. So it's a safe space for women to

(38:58):
go rate men essentially, and the ratings don't just stop
because you have to be able to identify the guy, right, So,
pictures of the date, social media handles for the guy,
the guy's phone number, the guy's address, the license played
on his car, like, all this stuff is in the
t app and you can access it, and that's how

(39:18):
you search for Hey, I want to find this guy,
and you can do an image search. You can upload
a picture and search for his face. You can do
a search based on phone number or based on address
or locale. And just for a moment while while we're
describing this, I want you to imagine that the roles
were reversed. Here. Let's talk about the guy app. And

(39:39):
the guy app is an app that only men can
log into and they can rate the women that they've
been on dates with. And they're going to include all
the women's personal information, pictures, social media handles, you know,
all the different things. Could you imagine the uproar, that's

(40:00):
not safe. Women are gonna be victimized, They're going to
be stalked. Well, you know, I guess guys don't need
to be safe. They don't need to be there's not
going to be a concern because then the second thought
I had is, Okay, you got a bunch of women
who are obviously going on this app to rate a guy.
And if you're familiar with Yelp, how often do you
go on Yelp to give someone a compliment. Nobody uses

(40:23):
Yelp to say this company did a great job. Yelp
is like it's like the care and complaint factory. I mean,
it's it's awful. Like people go on to Yelp to
trash companies I know. And then Yelp calls us and says,
we're only four hundred dollars, we can help you clean
up your reputation. And you're like, well, we have lots
of great reviews. We ask you, in fact, if you
want to go vote for us in the Best of Omaha,
one of the ways you can increase your chances of

(40:45):
winning that free computer from Shock is to go vote
for us on Yelp. If you want to do that,
you can go to Shrock Innovations dot com and you
can scroll down to the black box that it says,
you know, vote for us in the Best of Omaha.
We don't know who you vote for, but if you
vote for us, if you vote in the Best of Omaha,
we enter you in the drawing. And there's things you
can do to increase the number of entries in. One

(41:05):
of those is give a Yelp review. But you see
Yelp because that's the only Yelp review you've ever done
and it was positive. Thinks that you're a scammer. So
it's not going to publish your review. Your review is there,
it just does nobody ever sees it. It's the most
ridiculous system ever. So think about that. These women are
going on the tee app to rate guys. Why are

(41:26):
they going to go rate the guy? Is it because
they had an amazing date and they're hoping for a
second date? The guy can't see the rating. Why would
you help other women target this amazing guy that you
want a second date with. No, you wouldn't do that.
You're gonna go on there to trash the guy for
whatever reason. Okay, maybe it's legit, Maybe he's a creep.

(41:46):
Who knows. I don't know, but anyway, it got hacked. Surprise,
all of the all the selfies that women uploaded. Now,
imagine when you're you're done at night, like maybe you're
back from the date. Maybe your mascara is running down
your face because you're upset. I don't know, you know,
because you're gonna go rate this guy. Something went wrong, right,

(42:09):
so you know, and you're gonna go on the app
and you're gonna have to upload a selfie of yourself
or your driver's license photo, which we all have amazing
driver's license photos to prove that you're a woman. And
all of those verification images were leaked. So now there's
websites popping up called like the Women of Tea and

(42:30):
it's a website where guys, it's basically a hot or
not website where you can go rate the women who
were rating you, and it includes all their personal information,
their social media handles. You can see what they really
look like in their selfies at night when they're not
in their makeup and looking all proper and prim versus
their catfish photos where they have all the filters on

(42:50):
on Instagram. Yeah, it's exactly what they were doing to
the guys. There was actually a catfish thing for guys
on there, like you could say a likely catfisher. Yeah,
guys online photos match, like you know, he used to
take thirty pounds off his body filter. You know, I
think that actually exists. So anyway, it it was kind
of karma. So on one hand, you're like, serves you right,

(43:12):
you know, to turn about is fair play, right, good
for the gooseki. There's all kinds of thing. On the
other hand, you know, there is that part of me
that's like, there are really really creepy guys out there
that are going to use this information to do really
creepy things. And yes, you know, you could say a
lot of things about these women that are that are

(43:33):
posting this, you know kind of stuff about guys, but
no one deserves to be you know, harassed or stalked
or anything like that. You know, we don't want to
have that, but there's no stopping it because it's out
on the internet now. And so now it got worse
because not only was the photos and the addresses and
the phone numbers and the social media handles leaked, now
it was also your did your your direct message conversations

(43:56):
with other members on tea. So if you sent a
message to another woman who did the same guy as
you to compare notes, those messages are all leaked now.
So now imagine you went on the t app and
you said a bunch of things about a guy that
weren't true, things that maybe never happened because you were
mad at the guy. Now the guy can see what
you wrote and what you sent and identify that it

(44:18):
was written and sent by you.

Speaker 8 (44:23):
Row.

Speaker 2 (44:24):
So women are up in arms right now because you
know this isn't fair. Who's supposed to be anonymous? And
this is just a reminder guys, you know, cut through
all this to get to the end. When you are
on the internet, it is not an impervious anonymity shield
that keeps your identity private, even if you're using a pseudonym,

(44:44):
a name, whatever, you have IP addresses there, there's a
million and five different ways. Trust me, Google knows who's
clicking on their own ads. Right. How do they know that? Well,
they control the browser, they control the ad network, they
control the search engine. They have your phone and they
control your operating system on your phone. They I mean literally,
they're everywhere. They know they know. They know if you're sleeping,

(45:06):
literally you're wearing a biometric sensor. They know if you're awake.
They know if you've been good or bad because they
know your geolocation where everywhere you've been. They know if
you actually went on that date with that guy at
that restaurant or not. So there's a million different ways
that things on the internet can come back and bite you.
Best practices just be a good human being, Be a

(45:28):
good human If some guy is messing you over, the
best thing you can do is just block them and
move on. Block them and move on. You don't have
a moral obligation to the rest of femininity to warn
everybody about this guy. And if some guy victimized you
and did something wrong, well yeah, file a police report.
Don't go on the t app and say all these
things because they're not true. So now we have the

(45:51):
potential of women actually being sued by the guys they
went on dates with for saying things about them that
weren't true in the public square. Four zero, two, five, five, eight, eleven, ten.
Are going to take our final break of the program here, guys,
when we come back, we're gonna jump on Bill's call
real quick here and then anything you say on chat
GPT can and will be used against you. What are
some things you should not ask chat GPT about. We'll

(46:12):
tell you coming up next on compute this.

Speaker 8 (46:15):
Everyone has experienced some form of data loss or know
someone who has. It's unfortunate, but sometimes the technology we
rely on simply fails. And the last question you want
to hear at that time is you have a backup
right when you're a hard drive, memory card, backup drive
or flash drive fails, you turn to the data recovery
experts at Shrock Innovations to get those pictures, songs, and

(46:38):
memories back. You know, not all data recovery companies are
the same. Having the right tools and knowledge to get
the job done right on the first attempt makes all
the difference between a successful recovery and the permanent loss
of your important data.

Speaker 7 (46:52):
Sometimes you only get one shot at a successful recovery.

Speaker 8 (46:55):
That's why Schrock has invested in top of the line
recovery imagers, a Class one one hundred clean environment, over
ten thousand dollar components, and a staff of recovery engineers
that are the best in the business. THROC has a
ninety six percent recovery rate getting data back from failed devices.

Speaker 2 (48:38):
All righty guys, welcome back, final segment of the program.
We got like eight minutes here and a ton to do.
I don't know we went on too long talking about
the t APP, but don't worry. After the show is concluded,
there will be an aftershock today where we've got a
few things here. We're going to give you a bit
of a Ukraine update. We haven't talked about that in
a while. If you watch YouTube, everything that you see
on YouTube is how amazing the Ukrainian forces are doing

(49:00):
eliminating Russian counterparts. Uh, if you look at the maps,
it doesn't look like it's going so well. So what's
really going on there? We're gonna do a crypto update,
but this one is not good. Normally, when I say
crypto update, everybody asks for a few people ask for one,
and then I watch the viewership numbers go do do
do go down because nobody really you know, a lot
of the viewers don't really have crypto, don't care about crypto.

(49:22):
But there's some geopolitical stuff happening in crypto where China
is trying to corner the bitcoin market to control the
price of bitcoin. This and this has international implications because
the United States is trying to do the same thing,
and so who's gonna win this war? How much bitcoin
does China have? What are they going to do with it?
And unfortunately or fortunately everything is public on the blockchain,

(49:46):
so we know how much bitcoin China has. If there's
no they can't It's like with their gold, they can
kind of buy it on the black market or whatever.
We know these wallets have have the bitcoin, and this
is the China wallet, and there it is. Maybe they
have stealth wallets, I don't know, but this is the
China wallet. So the last thing that we're going to
talk about, though, is probably going to be the best
one you've heard of. The pocket veto right, it's enshrined

(50:10):
in the Constitution. If the Congress passes a law that
it goes to the President for signature if the president
has it thirty days something like that to sign the law.
If the president does not sign the law in thirty days,
it does not become law, and it expires. So the
president doesn't have to take the political action of actually
vetoing it. He can just not do anything. And it's

(50:30):
a pocket veto. So now you've heard of the pocket veto.
Have you heard of the pocket recision. It's not enshrined
in the Constitution, but it has been used before. And
we're going to tell you how the Trump administration may
bee planning to use pocket recisions to make dramatic cuts
to government agencies. But in the meantime for zero, two, five, five, eight,
eleven ten, we're going to go to Bill first. Bill,

(50:52):
welcome to the program. How can I help you and
compute this today?

Speaker 6 (50:56):
Ah? Yes, Philura, I was trying to do some research
on Canon's website and I have a holiday special and sofas,
but I got this access denied and I tried to
get into that website three four different ways and always

(51:17):
got the same message. So wondering what was causing that?

Speaker 2 (51:20):
Well interesting, it's a little difficult with that data set
to determine what's causing it to say access denied. But
my guess is that it's either a misconfiguration on the
Cannon website. So you're trying to probably I'm guessing, download
a driver or something for your printer.

Speaker 6 (51:34):
I was just trying to do some research on a
couple of different products I was looking at or thinking about.

Speaker 2 (51:40):
So it could be that they have a document there
that you're trying to access and for whatever reason, it
was restricted at one point and it's no longer supposed
to be restricted, so when you try to click it,
it's saying access denied because they didn't change it. The
other possibility is that you know something in that document
is nefarious, and then you're not going to get an
access denyed message block something. You just get a white screen.

(52:02):
It just it just doesn't load. It freezes everything. It
doesn't give you an air pop up or anything. It
just doesn't let the page load. So it's not SOFOS
blocking it. My guess is it's a misconfiguration in the
Canon website. But if this is if this is something,
if you can shoot me an email. It's just Thor
at Shrocannovations dot com shoot me an email with a
link to the page you're trying to open, and I
can take a look at it and see if I

(52:22):
can't get it open for you. Bill, thanks for the call.
I appreciate you joining us here. Wes. I apologize we're
not gonna have time to get to you here on
the program today, but I do have you in the
drawing for a twenty five dollars Show Innovations gift certificate.
If you want to hang on the line after the
conclusion of the show, I'd be happy to take your
call and answer your question for you there as well. Now,
anything that you can say that you do say to

(52:43):
chat GPT is not protected by any kind of confidentiality.
So what are some things that you really shouldn't ask
chat GPT about. Well, you know that rash. You know,
is this rash normal or is this a sign of
some kind? I'm std I was on the t app
and you know you don't want to ask chat GPT

(53:05):
about that because your your chats can become public information.
It can be hacked just like the t app was,
or it can actually be found through discovery in a
court case. So you wouldn't ever want to ask chat
GPT about crimes for example, or getting away with crimes,
or the potential for committing crimes, or researching anything that
might be related to committing crimes, like how do you

(53:28):
make cyanide? Not that I want to make any I'm
just curious. Can you make it at home? You know
you want to avoid them, Avoid the medical questions, avoid
the criminal questions, and you'll probably be okay. I just
know that there is no privacy when it comes to that.
Today's winner is Mark. Congratulations, you got yourself a twenty
five dollars shot gift certificate and we'll see you all
again next week for Compute this
