Speaker 1 (00:00):
Gary Settlemyer here, Jim Rose, Lucy Chapman, and the kfab Nation.
I'm interested in your view of the media because we're
going to talk with Nick later from NewsBusters about the
national news regarding regarding media, Colbert's firing, rumors of the
View being canceled, they're on hiatus, and the FCC chair

(00:22):
being a real conservative now and the defunding event, all
that stuff. And I'm interested in your view of the
Omaha media landscape. And we touched on this the other day. Now,
I'm not talking sports now, but what used to pass
for hard news and what our items are covered. And

(00:45):
it just seems to me that there, you know, and
I've tried to be really okay, I'm going to take
a twenty thousand foot view here, not have my agenda
cap on, and really look, and I'm telling you, man,
it seems pretty evident to me that there is a
and I don't know. I don't know in television, Rosie,
you've worked in television. I have not. I know that

(01:07):
they're a consultants are a big deal on TV. Newspapers,
I assume the editorial board or the editor of the
day or whatever has an agenda of what's covered and whatnot.
But I'm just seeing a lot of stuff that tells
me that the what you might call a woke agenda
is front and center. I get up Saturday, you know,

(01:33):
I's kind of a traditional deal coffee paper. Yeah, I
go online. I got the world here. The first thing
I see the Saturday Morning in the front page, because
they do the it looks just like the print edition.
Right there's a guy sitting on his porch and Beatrice
and and the cut line says that's a little caption

(01:59):
under the picture says, uh, Matt Bogel sits on their porch.
And I'm thinking, well, that's a typo. Okay, no, that's
a that's a that's a pronoun choice. And there's a big, huge,

(02:19):
long article on Matt and his struggles in life and
how he's why is he struggling because he's LGB a
woman part of the time and all this. Yeah, and
God bless him. I don't have any Instagram with Matt Bogulan,
but that the World Herald. Now it seems to me

(02:41):
a couple of things. It's see, I got to look
at this right away. The first thing, I'm up there
with my dog and my coffee and Saturdaymore, it seems
to me a couple of things. One, Uh, you've got
real issues going on, real issues that affect a lot
a lot of people locally, citywide, statewide, nationally. And that's

(03:02):
above the full big picture huge article number one. Number
two is at the job of a of a news
editor to use the preferred pronoun of an individual who
is objectively a guy. Wouldn't the news I don't know

(03:24):
what the style book would say anymore, especially the AP
style book because they've gone around the bend. Wouldn't it
be correct to use the pronoun heat and then flash
everything out in the story. But I mean, and then
and then you watch local TV news. My friend Rob

(03:45):
McCartney twice described Jay sixth as an insurrection. Yeah, last
night in a story about I can't remember with them
the sales of the story, but it goes on and
on and on like this, you know what I mean.
And I'm looking and I'm thinking, you know, when did
this happen? Exactly? Well, what's happening?

Speaker 2 (04:03):
So?

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Kayfabi Nation, what's your view of the Omaha media landscape?
Studio at kfaby dot com.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
I think it's a function of several factors center. The
first of which is what you described, and that is
we have an agenda here with what we call the
traditional media, and that is they see the underserved as
people who need to have their lives enlightened and placed
in a spotlight.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Number one.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Number two, as it relates to demographics, the consultant class
will tell you you have to talk about things that
matter to eighteen to forty two year old women.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
I guess, so, well, that's to be right.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Yeah, it says to me the difference between an eighteen
year old and a forty two year old is pretty dramatic,
but in their world it's all the.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Same young women. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
The third thing is a general lack of experience on
behalf of the people who are doing this every day.
We have accelerated young people to larger markets with more challenging,
competitive jobs, and they may not be up to it
just yet. You start a freshman at quarterback, you're going
to have fits of excitement and fits of dispair, right,

(05:08):
And that's what happens with very young and inexperienced people.
And that also applies to the Omaha World Herald.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
So I want to know. We'll just leave it open
all Morning Studio at kfab dot com. That's the email
you want to fire one in on that to the
Zonker's custom woods inbox and you can call me, transfer
over whatever you want, or just comment on the past.
You can always let us have it. We're open to that.
And I got a lot of feedback from keV outside

(05:33):
of kfab, all of it is left wing. Look at
how the social media posts are written. KETV, WWT and
Omaha World Herald are the most liberal. From David, I
can hardly stand to watch local news anymore. It's obvious
the political bent of the newswriters is liberal. Last night

(05:54):
on Channel seven, they ran the story of the Capitol Police.
A Capitol Police officer speaking in Omaha and referred to yeah,
I saw this. That's what I mentioned earlier. Refer to
January sixth event as a deadly insurrection. Deadly, yeah, But
to use for an editor to choose the word or
a newswriter to use the word insurrection any quote news

(06:18):
unquote story. This is the kind of stuff I'm talking about.
And Steve says, I canceled the Omaha World Herald during
the big Beautiful Bill machinations. Many articles on how we
were going to see people dying in the streets, locking
up LGBTQ, and deny granny healthcare. Still haven't witnessed any
signs of the apocalypse. Local media generally is a liberal

(06:43):
rag from Tom stopped taking a World Herald over twelve
years ago. Don't watch local news channels any longer. A
lot happier. That's from Tom. And I got this one.
Let's see if I can put my hands on it. Oh, yeah,
here it is. This was But this goes back to

(07:05):
earlier discussion about college sports nil. This was from MJ.
He says, I was in college in the seventies. Football
players at the time were entitled intolerable oafs to be avoided.
I can't imagine living around nil brats. I hope they're
isolated from the general population. Yeah, well, it's not a prison.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
Well you heard Mike Loosley, the coach of Maryland, tell
it like it is. He said, we have a problem
in our locker room, and I suspect there's the same
problem in a lot of lockers. But just so, once again,
let's just clear the air and set the record straight
for all of you folks out there, whether you're in
the news, media or not. What's that, Jane, This is

(07:46):
what happened on January sixth. Ashley Babbitt died by homicide
from a gunshot to the left shoulder, shot by a
Capitol police officer. Okay, while trying to climb through a
door near the House chamber. Kevin Greeson died of natural
causes from cardiovascular disease. He was a Trump supporter. Benjamin

(08:07):
Phillips died of natural causes from cardiovascular disease in other words,
heart attacks. He was a Trump supporter. Roseanne Boylen died
by accident from acute amphetamine intoxication. That had nothing to
do with people riding at the Capitol. So they continued
to make this case that people died as a result

(08:28):
of the Trump supporters at the Capitol on January sixth.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
Well, there were some.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Never been true, It'll never be true.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
There was some law law enforcement officers who died a
day or two or a week later that may have
been stressed by it. And we don't know that they
might have been stressed by their property tax roll too. See.
But for my I get what you're saying, because the
narrative is the narrative.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
My good friend Rob McCartney, Rob would you please stop
saying that it was not an insurrection and nobody was killed?
Is there is all of it? There just isn't any
freaking supporting facts that would lead you to that.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Con This this is the kind of thing that led
to my question. I watched it. Look, I'm not giving up,
but you have to be really you have to be
really circumspect in your consumption. Be uh, skeptical is the
right word, but just know what you're dealing with. Well,

(09:28):
and this is the thing you know. I'll give you
another example of this is on the national level. But
yesterday morning, Yeah, on the This Week Show, which I
record those Sunday morning shows, and I just kind of
scanned through the Forward Brinkley Show. Yeah, this is the
one with the supposedly Stephanopolis but he's had to rotate
three hosts anyway, Jonathan Carl yesterday and the whole thing

(09:50):
at the beginning, and I didn't watch the rest of it.
I still have it. There was about the Epstein thing,
and they're just he obsessed with it. And if you
look at the list of issues that Americans are concerned
about and care about, that's way down the lists. They
used at least fifteen to twenty minutes of the open

(10:11):
of that show on that Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
This is the truth. You know, yeah it is, and
you know it's unbelievable. It's it's really shocking. But a
device has yet to be I know, I know I
can measure how little most Americans care about Jeffrey Empstein
from Bruce.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
He said, I'm almost embarrassed to use the urinal Star
or weird hairl Harold as fish wrap. They went woke
years ago after they stopped listing mugshots because it wasn't
fairly accused. My wife and I stopped all subscriptions and
have never looked back. And the local news reports are

(10:50):
not as bad as national outlets, but they're trying like
hell to get there. Thank you, Bruce for that email
up for you find folks at kfab says Captain America
mostly totally mentally leftist, woke. The World Herald has been
a woke commy listed leftist prop again. There's waste of

(11:13):
money rag that hasn't I haven't read for years now,
and then I got this our daily very loyal listener
and loyal Trump hater, Richard, because I referenced the story
in the Saturday World Herald. I get up nice summer
Saturday morning, sunshine and a cup of coffee. Go online

(11:38):
World Herald. There at his front page, huge picture above
the fold, front page and a multipage article about a
guy and Beatrice LGBTQ dude, well something, yeah, sitting on
According to the caption, he's sitting on their porch. I said, well,
that must be a typo. No, it was a it
was a pronoun choice, and Richard's said. Richard says, and

(12:01):
I want to make I don't have anything negative to
say about that guy. I'm just I'm talking about the
editorial choice that that instead of a Sunday feature or
a living feature or something somewhere, it was front page, center,
above the fold. And Richard says, the reason that was

(12:22):
a story in the World Herald is because we have
run all the trans right out of the state. Your
maga hate everyone that is not wide and straight values
have made us horrible people. That's from Richard, the Trump

(12:42):
hater h and he sometimes claims to be a Republican
and conservative, but he and then he follows up Richard said,
and I forgot Trump is a pedophile, and you're protecting him.
Is that a fact that Richard? No, Oh, of course
it's not a fact. But it's always fun to hear

(13:03):
from Richard Studio at kfab dot com. You want to
weigh in on all of this, And we've got Nick
from NewsBusters coming on in a little over a half
hour about the national media landscape and what's happening.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Here double they're doubling down on Trump. None of them
are saying, yeah, we got that one wrong. Yeah, yeah,
I owe you one on that one. They're all saying
we were right. They're hanging on through their life. What
