Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to twenty four to seven News national correspondent Aaron Reel. Aaron,
great to have you back.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Good morning, all, good to be here. Thanks.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
I want to talk about gas prices because I've wondered
about this myself with the escalation of hostilities in the Mideast,
and now I see the smart guys in the oil
industry are concerned too. Right, if Israel decides to take
out a big part of Iran's oil infrastructure, here come

(00:30):
big gas prices. Right.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Oh, for sure, this is going to be a huge issue,
and I think it's really important that people understand how
precarious the situation is. The oil markets are pricing is
in and one of the things to say yesterday was
Brent go above eighty bucks a barrel is settled. Now
below that at seventy nine, like thirty. We'll see where
it comes out for open of the markets this morning.

(00:52):
But long story short, Israel with pummels yesterday from all sides.
Their third biggest city was hit with rockefi from Hezbola
and Iran. They had fire from the yemen E side
in central Israel that was intercepted by the Iron Dome.
Israel will retaliate Biden has really discouraged Israel from striking
Iranian oil facilities, and not necessarily because they provide most

(01:16):
of the world's oil, but because of the retaliation that
Iran will then likely be partaken and that would be
disrupting the straits of our moos. Eighty excuse me, twenty
percent of the world's crude exports flows through the straits
of our moves. It's a very important chowpoint for oil
and if that's taken offline, that will have profound global impacts.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Right, But they need the money. That's how they're financing
these maniacs with oil money.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Yeah, this is why it's the precarious situation. It's difficult
and also one of the the biggest importer of crude,
China is just demanding less, which has kind of actually
been like the simple supply and demand, So we haven't
seen a tremendous amount of need, Like there's less there's
less demand because China's not not offline but desiring less

(02:06):
and as a result, that has pushed down prices also.
And we don't part of this a lot, but we
are pumping a tremendous amount of oil here in the
US and that has helped to alleviate some of the
pressure as well.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
And we've got plenty for our own needs here. But still,
with a fungible commodity and a global market, it could
it could bring upward pressure for sure on prices. By
the way, Aaron, I was in uh just at a
quick extended weekend down in Arizona, and I saw that
I saw my first driverless vehicles. Are you familiar with

(02:39):
this waimo?

Speaker 2 (02:41):
I've heard of it, I haven't seen one yet. What
does it look like? Tell me more?

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Well, at the Sky Harbor Airport there in Phoenix, you're
out there, you're waiting for your ride, you know, And
I see these vehicles coming by and and and they
got some kind of look like a flying saucer on
top of the car. And I didn't pay much attention
that I realized there's nobody driving that thing. They just

(03:06):
pull up alongside the curb. And apparently you order them
on an app and you tell them where you are
and where you're going, and they pull and they pull
up and stop there, and you get in and away
they go.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
And that's incredible. I actually heard. It's so funny. I'm
dying to see one. Did you take it or no
I did not.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
I'm not getting them. I'm sorry. I don't want Look
if I die in a crash, I want it to
be somebody's fault.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
That's really funny. So I heard a woman from Waimow
like she was on CNBC and she was talking about
like as a mother. That really resonated with me. And
I was like, oh, that's I think she thought she
was going to shut everyone down, but she was like,
you know, here's the argument. Would you prefer your child
to get in the car with a stranger or just
safely in a driverless vehicle? And I was like, a stranger,

(03:53):
definitely a stranger.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
Yeah, most of the strangers are okay, yeah, most of
the strangers. And there are a ton of these way
mood vehicles down there. Oh I don't know they're problem.
I'm sure there are in other cities too. I hadn't
seen them before. I'm thinking, I'm thinking, well, this is
the little flying saucer thing on the roof. That's just
a marketing gimmick because they're trying to compete with Uber

(04:15):
and Lyft. But no, that obviously has something to do
with their navigation.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
I mean, listen, I think it's coming. I think that
we're all going to take these at some point. I
just I don't need to be the first generation.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
No no, but they're popular down there, so yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Know I'm dying to see you one, Like I mean, listen,
maybe i'd take a take a risk and get when
they're probably statistically this was really totally okay, but at
the same time it's scary. It's scary.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
I might order one to go like a block or
a couple of blocks.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Yeah, like give it like a little time where I
could like jump out if anything, like.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Really going sideway the training wheels. You're making training wheels
for the call, right, Yeah, that was weird.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
I want to go about twenty miles per hour or
something like that. Yeah, how do you make this work?

Speaker 1 (04:57):
See? Uh live on a shelter life and naive life
that I do. Rosie. I had heard and Aaron I
had heard that all of these driverless vehicles were experimental.
You know, they're trying them and they're they're perfecting it. No, no, no,
here they come. There must have been a dozen of
those Waymo.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Vehicles are experimental, Like this is not like totally risk free,
like it's low risk, but like yeah, like they're still
figuring it out.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
Yeah, I'm not ready for a driverless vehicle. I'm sorry,
I don't know. I'm not ready for him. Aaron, Thanks,
have a great day you two guys. Always good to
have you on. Aaron Rayel twenty four to seven News
