Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Penthouse Studio. Rosie is now graced by the Grand
Poobah oh Boy, the Nebraska broad Corping Cast Nebraska Broadcasters Association,
James Tim How Today morning, James. What do we owe
the honor?

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Well, I've heard.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
There's something special going on in your life and your
career here and I don't see a big countdown clock
in the studio.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Okay, nothing's changed. Oh we had it. Okay, understandable. So
I'm here on behalf of our board of directors, our
chairman Mark Jensen, who you know, owner of k and
olv out and Ord, here to say congratulations on your
retirement and just an amazing career.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Gary.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
I mean when you think about our industry, you think
about full service radio and what everyone on this crew
does here at KFAB and you've been the ringleader forty
nine almost fifty years, so much. They've served the community
in so many different ways. So on behalf of our association.
We want to say thank you for all the great
work that you've done and congratulations.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Thanks. Jim, Jim's executive director. I didn't I shouldn't have
joked around. He's executive director of the Nebraska Broadcasters Association.
It's a very big deal. And I don't know how
he was able to breach the security here, right, but
you know what you mentioned something that to me has
been the highlight moments for me over these years have

(01:23):
been when when we were needed. You know, you talk
about service, and that's what the NBA is about a
lot is serving the people around the state when when
you need a lifeline. Yes, and we've had we've had
moments over the years like that, and that's to me,
is the best.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
And we've had a lot just in the last couple
of years. You look at all the major severe weather
events and I've shared emails with a lot of you
that by the time I tune in, one or more
of you are already here and the next one's driving
in and you're keeping us informed and keeping us safe.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
And that's what great local radios. Well, thank you, very nice.
Thank you. What's in the box? I gotta ask what's
in the box?

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Well, I'm guessing it's something you might be familiar with.
A little Birdie told me this might be, oh boy,
something another on behalf of our board that you might enjoy.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
What a wonderful gift. Thank you.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
It's a gigantic bottle of alcohol. I was just throwing
a card of cigarettes and really advances you.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Guys want to twist this open now or why not?

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Why not? Or tomorrow? Or a good one? Is there
a bunch of money in this one too? There's also
hard you know, this is wonderful. Jim, thank you, well,
congratulations again. We know you're thanks to the board.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Well, you're welcome. We're very happy for you. We're going
to miss you. But you've got a great crew here
that's going to care.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Oh yeah, I'm excited about what's what's coming, what Scott
has planned for the radio station. Never mind what people
are saying on emails. I think it's going to be great.
Is he going to turn it into another pack of
live show? You know, there's a lot coming. There's a lot.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
You've done a remarkable number of things in your career
and we're just grateful that you've done everything you have
and glad you're still going to be in the community.
And and I can't wait for you.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
I hope you'll listen tomorrow. Absolutely. I don't think I've
ever told you the story at Rosie. Remind me again
of how it almost was killed in its infancy. Oh, wow.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Yeah, trying to serve up the community out.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Okay, r G.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
I that baby was almost lost in the in the
birth canal very close. People are going to go home,
my god. But now you're going to make people in
Grand Island feel guilty about it or insecure about it
because they're thinking, maybe we did our community almost wipe
out the illustrious broadcasting career.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
No, it was management and they were and they were justified. Okay,
I messed up really well. You were young and I was.
I was about approximately eleven years old.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
And now he just acts like he's before child labor
was right.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
I beg you jump. Thanks, Gary wishes you too. We'll
see as soon, I hope. Jim Tim Executive Director, Nebraska
Broadcasters Association the NBA.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah, good guys, good people. It's still strong organization, you know,
with a lot of very very passionate.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Local broadcasting, no doubt, and it's not getting easier, as
Jim well knows. But you do a great job, as
Marty Riemenschneider did before you, dealing with all of us
knuckleheads and trying it trying to keep the association strung.
Scott Burrey stops by two good morning.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
Jim, referencing all of your severe weather coverage reminds me
of the story I just told this week to someone,
one of my favorite Gary Sandlemeyer stories. Roger Olsen is
in here piloting the severe weather coverage on eleven ten
KFAB one night. It's one of the nights of one
of those nights, Yeah, one of those nights, and Gary
is out pretty late out there in the dark in

(04:54):
West Omaha, and he calls into Roger to tell him,
you know what he's seen, Like, well, Roger, have the
rains starting to really I pick up, the winds picking up,
and it's it's just getting very treacherous out here in
Elcorn And Roger says, Gary, where are you right now, Roger,
I'm here at about one hundred and ninety second in Pacific. Well, Gary,
according to the radar, that's where the rotation is. And

(05:15):
then there's a pause and here Gary say, I'll take
that under advisement.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Roger, thank you. That was so cool. That was one
of the very tough moments. I remember that because I
literally couldn't see anything, you know how it gets literally
black in the middle of the afternoon or late afternoon
outside the window and that thing could be right next
to my car for all I knew. But thanks for

(05:40):
did you save that on tape by any chance.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
I don't know if that one got saved anywhere, but
it takes.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
That under advisement. I'll take that under advisor, Roger. Thank you.
Then then I got there, and then I got there
out of there. H yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
What I don't know is what happened after you hung
up the phone.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Well, there was another one where I headed north out
of Elcorn on Highway thirty one, the north side, up
past the water tower on it, and I've and I
realized that's one point. You know, I don't think I'm
gonna do this anymore. I mean, it was just absolute
but the car was rocking back and forth, rain, hail, pelding,

(06:16):
It couldn't see anything. You know, this is not real
smart chasing.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
We appreciated that as you played Dorothy in the Vortex
of the F five, it was nice for you to
stay on.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
We used to do that all the time.
