Speaker 1 (00:00):
We welcome down Osborne back to the program. Who's announcing
today his run for the US Senate versus senator records
day and good morning, Hi.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Good morning, good talking to you guys again. I just
want to let you know my first interview since announcing.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Wow, well, we appreciate it awfully.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Well, the fact of the matter is you're with one
swing of the bat, you reach two thirds of the state,
and you reach two thirds of the country at night,
So good for you.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah, no, that's all right.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
So why is Yeah, well, we knew for a while
now that you've been pondering this was it? That was
there ever a doubt? What was your process like to
make the decision?

Speaker 2 (00:43):
You know, there there certainly was some doubts, you know,
at the beginning, and you know, November twenty twenty four.
But you know, I sit down and I consult with
my kids and my wife quite a bit, and this
is something that we all feel needs to be done.
My kids are afraid that they're never going to be
able to own a home. You know, these are trying

(01:07):
times economically, so I feel like this is something we
got to do.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Independent again, yes, sir.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
I've been a registered independent my whole life didn't change. Now.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Yeah, Now, Dan, your run against deb Fisher was impressive,
and many national observers wondered, how could this possibly happen?
You were particularly strong against her in eastern Nebraska and
in Douglas County and Frankly District too. Don't you think
you'd have a better chance of winning the seat in

(01:40):
Congress than a senatorial seat against a billionaire?

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Yeah? You know, I wouldn't be lying if I didn't
say it was going to be. It's a tall order
to run against that kind of money. But you know,
we did two hundred public events throughout Nebraska. I'll do
three hundred. I'm going to spend a good bulk of
my time out in CD one in CD three going
out and meeting where folks are at and listening to

(02:06):
what they have to say and their problems, and trying
to come up with solutions.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
What about governor that's open and you talk about affecting
policy change, You got a lot better shot at getting
things changed as governor of Nebraska than is one of
one hundred Senators.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
I would agree and disagree at the same time. I
see exactly where you're coming from. But you know, I
think if I can show the country, then an independent
candidate can win at a statewide level for US Senate.
I think that would have quite a few people be
able to emulate what we did here, and that's when
true change can really be affected.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Is it a safe assumption that you will, if elected,
caucus with the Democrats.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
That is not a safe assumption. I stand by my
words in twenty four I don't plan on caucus with anybody,
you know, during the State of the Union. I plan
on bringing in a law chair, popping it down in
the middle of the aisle between everybody and grabbing my
back of corn and watching the show.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Okay, wait a minute, make.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Sure we got this, la, I'm not afraid to launch
by myself.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Well, yeah, as an independent, you'll get that opportunity in DC.
But wait, I just want to make sure if you
win this race, during the first State of the Union
addressed by the President, by President Trump, you will be
sitting in a lawn chair in the middle of the
middle aisle eating popcorn.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Well, that stands the reason. That's where I should be.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Okay, I want to ladies, I'm almost prepared to vote
for Dan Osborne to see that. All right now, let's
visit for a second about what Pete Ricketts is about
to do. Let's be honest about it, Dan, you were
able to sneak up on Deb Fisher. She slept on
you until the last month of the campaign, and she
almost lost. Pete Ricketts is not going to make that mistake.

(03:58):
He is going to do you any body cavity search
on you like you've never imagined. Are you ready for
this and how have you prepared for that?

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yeah? I don't, you know, I don't. I don't know
if you can prepare for lives. You know, Deb Fisher
lied about me, said I wanted to come take all
your guns, wanted to amnesty for everybody here illegally. I
never said any of that. I don't believe any of that.
So it's going to be up to the voter, just
like it always is, decipher through the bs and find
out what's real. But again, I planned on doing three

(04:31):
hundred public events and hopefully if you're listening to this,
there'll be one near you and come out and see
for yourself and ask for yourself, because I think that's
the best way to do it is through civic engagement.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
I think that I think this might be relevant for
voters in Nebraska listening this morning, because it just happened.
If you were a Senator Dan Osborne having to decide
on the big beautiful bill last week, where would you
have been. I'm sure you watch that closely.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Yeah, you know and that that that certainly is a
tough one. There's there's good stuff in there, right, there's
no tax on tips, no tax on overtime. I've been
preaching that. Shoot, I've been preaching that for twenty years.
But you know where I think it falls short is,
you know, fifty billion dollars in subsidies for commodity farms,

(05:25):
you know, soybeans and porn. What that's going to do
is it's going to choke out the small scale, diversified farms.
They're going to start filing for bankruptcy, and we're going
to see more corporate consolidation of our farms, and which
is going to allow again countries like China to come
up and buy our farmland. Like how is that even
still legal? Like this is a this is getting out

(05:46):
of control. You shouldn't be a foreign entity and be
able to buy one piece of property in Nebraska, let
alone in a single family home. But a farm.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
This is certainly an adversary. I'm with you there.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Yeah, so you you would have voted against the bill.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Well, you know, I probably would have, guys, because, uh,
you know, I'm I'm I'm afraid, you know. I know.
They added the fifty billion dollars for our rural rural hospitals.
I sure hope that doesn't fall short. But at the
end of the day, for me, it's u people. People
need to be able to go to the doctor, and
they need to be able to afford to do it.

(06:25):
And I feel like this still falls a bit sure that,
and it's going to add three trillion dollars in debt.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
Three points on with that too, yeah three point seven.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Well, yeah, I think I think, I just think I
think we could have done better.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
We appreciate being on with us. First, Dan, thank you,
and onward to the campaign.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Yeah, thanks guys,
