Speaker 1 (00:00):
Stage Senator Lynn Walls from Fremont Representative District fifteen for
a time and then was forced out by our outrageous
term limits law, and now I don't know. Lynn. Good morning.
It's great to have you on here. You're not making
anything official yet, right.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
No, I'm not, No, I'm not. And first of all,
thank you for having me. I really want to say
that I appreciate the work that you guys do and
tune in as much as I can when I'm not
listening to the radio station in free.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Your husband's station, yes.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yeah, yeah, so partial to him.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
So okay. But exploratory committees, I can't remember one that
didn't result in a candidacy. So what's the plan here?
Speaker 2 (00:45):
So I'm launching an exploratory committee today because I want
to take the opportunity to really listen and learn from Nebraskans.
I'm going to start this campaign out by listening to
people across the state I meet. I want to meet
people in coffee shops and schools and businesses and farms
to really find out what's important to them. You know,
(01:06):
what's working for them, what's not working for them, and
also talk about solutions and ideas that they have. This
honestly isn't about me or my aspirations. This is about
the people of Nebraska, and it will be a campaign
for people. I've had a lot of discussions about affordability
(01:28):
and education, business opportunities, and workforce development, as well as
property checks, and I feel that we are all wanting
the same thing. Everybody wants the same thing. We have
a lot of commonalities among us. We just need to
unite and get those things done.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Lynn, you also ran for lieutenant governor in twenty eighteen
with Bob christ What did you learn from that experience
or do you wish you'd never done it?
Speaker 2 (01:55):
No, Actually, that experience was the one of the best
experiences that I've ever had in my life. I learned
so much about Nebraska and the people who live there
or who live here. I learned so many things that
I had no idea about, So it was it was
the best experience. I talked to you the other day
and said, how I wish I could be with you
(02:17):
in person. That is where I am in my element,
is when I'm talking to people you know, face to
face and having discussions. So best best experience I've had.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Yeah, Well, we chatted the other night and and and Lynn.
For those who don't know as a Democrat. You didn't
say this specifically, but I gathered from our conversation on
the phone that you're frustrated with the governor and some
members of the legislature's emphasis on social issues. Both the
(02:53):
front and center ones, of course, are our abortion and
and girls and boys and girls locker rooms and spaces
and all gender redefining surgery and all of this stuff.
Is that accurate?
Speaker 2 (03:08):
You know? I really felt that we were focused on
the wrong things while I was in the legislature. And
one of the main reasons that I'm considering this run
for governors the fact that we need to get back
to working for Nebraska. We need to focus on what's
important for people, and that is healthcare costs, that's affordable housing,
it's property taxes, quality education for our kids. And we
(03:32):
have to be we really have to be laser focused
on economic development and expanding our business in Nebraska and
keeping the talent that we have here in Nebraska. So
I was disappointed. You know, there are many times that
I thought, why are we talking about these issues when
we have so many more issues that we need to
(03:54):
talk about. The Nebraskas really really care.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
About well, especially since you had daughters compete in swimming,
and guys in the pool against your daughters means your
daughters don't win, and I think that probably resonates with
most families and most parents. Lynn, You know what you're
talking about our generalities that have been talked about in
this state for the last twenty years, specifically property tax relief.
(04:17):
You worked very hard at a very complex bill that
came up short. I believe it was your second to
last year in the unicameral. It might have been your
third to last year. It was very, very challenging, and
you spent a lot of time on it, and yet
it still didn't go and it had bipartisan support. You
had Republican support for this. Are you here to say
(04:38):
now that if you become governor, you will continue the
fight that Jim Pillan has started to close loopholes on
sales tax exemptions because we have to generate more revenue
to slow down the increase in property taxes here.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Absolutely, we have to increase the revenue and that's really
again what we're going to be focused on is economic development.
We cannot continue need to provide for services needed services
for people as well as lower property taxes. If we
are not laser focused on expanding business and keeping talent
in Nebraska and bringing more people to Nebraska.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Lynn Wall's former state senator and probably I'm going to
say probably Lynn, I'm going to say probably future gurubernatorial candidate.
So what's your timeline for You're going on a listening tour.
When are you going to make a decision.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
We're going to start to listening to or sometime in
the first of December, and as soon as you know,
I get as soon as I feel comfortable that I
have talked to as many people that I can talk
to and we've had those discussions about healthcare and education
and property taxes, and I feel that we're on the
same page, I'll be able to make a decision probably
(05:51):
the first of the year.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Okay, well, let's stay in touch.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Hey, Gary, I have one more thing. Yeah, and you know,
I don't care what letters behind your name, but just
as a little a bit of information for you, because
I know that you do care about Nebraska football. The
only time that we have had national championship, that we've
won national championship is when there's been a democratic governor
fact a little bit of information.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
That's largely true. Except team in nineteen seventy he got
beat by Jim Mackson, but he was the governor lived
before Jim Xon got inaugurated. He was still the governor
for the first national title.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Five. That's largely true, Ben Nelson for all the other ones.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
It was really good talking with you guys. Thank you again.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
I thought you were going to I thought you were
going to say the last the last or two of
the two of the last three were when your husband
and I were both working on the broadcast crew.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Chris, I will Yeah, Well, we're going to keep some
of that stuff quiet. You know, when Chris Walls is
your roommate on the road for Oscar football games, it's
important to Yeah, all right, Lynn, thanks so much.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Lynn Wall's potential candidate for governor here in Nebraska.
