Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, baby's morning news. The first game day of the season.
Finally here, Gary Sadelmayer gam Row was bringing on the
season debut of our official Husker fan, Richie in Papilion. Ritchie,
welcome to another season number twenty, number twenty for you
on on KFAB. So yeah, yeah, and now you've joined
(00:23):
the pantheons of KF It be greats by reaching that milestone, Partner, what.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Did you crazy?
Speaker 3 (00:29):
What did you decide to do for the game?
Speaker 2 (00:31):
You're going down there, I am leaving. I got to
give a shout out to my man Mike for driving,
because I'm not driving more than an hour and a
half anymore. Omaha. So that right, Uh yeah, I got
caught in the tornado was Valentine's I'm not doing that
in no more so. He's driving. I appreciate it. We're
going to Kansas City right after this.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Excellent Well wait a wit, wait minute.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
You were caught in a tornado in Valentine, Nebraska.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yeah, it's a whole story. We went, we rolled right
into it and the car was moving. Was terrible. I'm
not doing this no more so.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
That's it, okay right here, okay, because you got caught
in a Tornado and Valentine.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
You don't drive more than an hour.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Too many things happen on that trip there. It's a
whole long time. But I'm just.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
Saying, all right, well, we'll talk about that later. We'll
talk about that during on off week.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
All right, So you got.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
Cincinnati and Nebraska tonight. Big twelve, Big ten. Sean kind
of opened the kimono a little bit half an hour
ago and he said, the Big twelve is a good,
solid notch below the Big ten and overall talent and
an overall team capacity, how do you see it?
Speaker 2 (01:34):
The Big twelve is a minor conference now, it's not
even a major conference, is it. When they say the
Big four of the power force to be the Power three,
Big twelve is not a good conference. You know that,
and I know that. So this is a game that
we have to win. It's a season defining game. Right
off the bat, we all know that we have to
come out and play. We need to do this game
(01:54):
like the Colorado game last. You come out and just bang,
go after them, score some time downs, the explosives, and
win the trenches and we'll be fine. It's gonna be
an unbelievable atmosphere. So I mean, just go out and
do what you're supposed to do. Let's win a game.
We have problems with these first games, so you need
(02:15):
to win this one.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
I believe this. Well, you got a bunch of transfer.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Yeah, that Nebraska wins the toss, I think they'll take
the ball.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
I want to I want the defense out first. I
want to get it, bring it out established field position,
and get the ball in the in the third quarter.
I have, like you know, back to back hopefully possessions.
I'm a big believer in putting the defense out first
all the time.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
Uh okay, well, let's let's walk back a little bit here.
You said it's a season defining game.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Yes, yes, but I'm gonna tell you what if we
lose this one, tomorrow is gonna be It's gonna be
a disaster tomorrow. I'm telling you right now, you can't
lose this game. You can't. You gotta go into Michigan undefeated,
and that's good. The season is going to really start.
Not lose this game. We all know this. We've upgraded
all over, the upgraded all over the team. You got
(03:06):
special teams. Now they're not gonna lose any more games
for us. We need to lose two games a year
because the special teams with a fumble, a block punt,
the s field goals, stupid tunalies. That's not gonna happen anymore.
We are We're gonna have good special teams. The coaches
we brought in are excellent. This is a game. You
have to win. I don't There's there's no other way
about it. Everyone's got to play well. The defense has
(03:27):
got to get three and outs. We got to get
some turnovers. We gotta use it's a home game. You
gotta use the crowd. It's a season defining game. The
whole country is watching. You got you gotta do. You
have to win the game. That's okay.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Should know if you're if you happen, if you happen
to be new to Richie, what you need to know.
This is one of the few uh Ritchie segments of
the season where he's not firing anybody yet.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
So not yet.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Now you might wait till after the after a loss, Ritchie.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Right, maybe maybe Friday.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
See that's the thing, because I remember last year, Indiana,
we must win this game. If we lose this game,
it's a disaster.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
I was out at West Point for that weekend, so
I was kind of like distracted. I guess, I don't know.
We played. We had a decent season last year, if
those special teams cost us an eight win season, so
that's not going to happen anymore. Our offensive line is
the best that's been in I don't know how long.
That's huge, it's huge. So I just I really think
(04:32):
that it's all set up for us to really have
a good year. Nine wins.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
I believe That's what I was going to ask you,
because one of the favorite pastimes of the summer has
been how many wins?
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Nine wins and November means a lot. You'll be competitive
in November, you know, going to Penn State, You're going
to be ranked. All of that stuff can be there
for us. It has to be there, and then go
to really good bowl games. This is the beginning. This
could be the beginning of a run for us. I
really believe that. So must must win tonight. Must I
(05:07):
don't know how else to put it.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
Okay, are we are we going to talk to you
tomorrow if we don't win.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
Yeah, I'll talk to you all right, you guys coming
back tonight.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
No, We're gonna come back tomorrow, tomorrow morning. So but yeah,
I got a cell phone I can talk to you.
Don't worry about it.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
If we lose tonight, we'll call you tomorrow and just
see how you're doing.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Great, uh, Richie, congratulations on and thanks for twenty years.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
We're underway.
