Speaker 1 (00:00):
As you know. When Gary Sademeyer and Jim Rose are here,
they have Richie and Papillion, who they deemed to be
the official Husker fan of kfab's morning News, and I
am not going to take that title away from him
while they are gone. This week, we welcome back to
the proceedings here Richie and Papilion for his weekly rant. Ritchie.
Good morning boy, Scott, how are you good? Let's you
(00:23):
want to talk Huskers or Giants football? First?
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Oh? We can go Giants football too. You know, I
loved it last night. You know there's an old giant
saying that once a giant, always a giant, and except
number twenty six, that's all I'll say.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Uh yeah, oh Sakuon Barkley.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Yeah yeah, Now.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
With the well, yeah, so, like a week and a
half ago, Eagles are defending Super Bowl champs, undefeated, looking
like they're rolling, and the Giants looked absolutely hapless. They
got Russell Wilson as their quarterbacks. They're like, all right,
we can't do anything here. Put in the rookie Jackson
Dart and sudden Jackson Dart looks like a future Hall
(01:02):
of Famer, and the Eagles don't look like they're gonna
win another game.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Well, the Eagles are still pretty good. But my quarterback's
pretty good too. I got a quarterback now, and that
just changes everything. So hopefully this starts turning things around
for us.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Yeah, well we it remains to be seen. It's two games.
Whether Jackson Dart is the next is the three games now.
So whether Jackson Dart is the next Josh Allen or
the next you know, Tim Tebow or Colin Kaepernick, someone
who came in there, played great for a short time
and then we really didn't see them again.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
But Jackson Dart, that's all I want. It'll be good.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
I like Dart, I like Scataboo. I like watching the Giants.
I've always liked the Giants. It's good to see them
get a little bit of excitement and energy around that team.
More on the game last night in sports brief Here
in just a moment, But what are you looking? What
are you looking for that you saw last week in
that peaked stretch from the second through the third quarter
(01:57):
that we don't need to do anymore.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
A lot of people are talking about that stretch, but
everybody seems to forget we were against a win that
was just brutal, and both teams struggled that game. That
the second and third quarter win and I just kept saying,
get out of this third quarter, get to the fourth quarter.
And you know, we overcame a lot of stuff in
this game. I mean, you know, we had penalties, we
(02:20):
only had fifty five snaps, we had sacks, we had
to turnover. The win was just brutal, and we overcame
all of that stuff. And in the fourth quarter, we
just took over and we finished the game. And that's
what counts. And I'm going to say another thing. I
don't know what this guy's making, but he needs to
raise the special teams coach, because that's the best special
(02:40):
teams I remember in a long, long time. And it's
all phases, blocked punts, returns, kicks. It's unbelievable. I think
we have a top ten special teams and they won
that football game.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
I think the defense, the special teams, they kept us
in it. And I agree with you. Were sitting there
watching the game with a bunch of friends on Saturday,
and middle third quarter you started hearing the people who
were like, I don't know why I waste time with
the team. We're gonna find a way to lose again.
And I'll name him Brandon Riley. And I stood up
(03:14):
at this former Husker wide receiver and I stood up
at this party and tried to light a fire under
these Husker fans, say no, we're not giving up on
this team. Got to win this game. This is a
different team. Let's go. And then I think more due
to Brandon Riley's enthusiasm, the team really they got on
Brandon Riley's back and they rode the had to victory
(03:36):
yet again over Michigan State, and we were all like excited,
high five and it was a great time because this
team has a different identity. Rather than find a way
to lose, they overcame that adversity and they found a
way to win that game. So what do you want
to see do better tomorrow against Maryland?
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Well, you know, I think the matchups are really in
our favor. We need to start fast on the road.
I'm sure there's got a lot of Husker fans there
on the from the East coast. We got to control
control our possessions, run the football, we have to protect Ryola,
and we have to hit the big plays. And on
the other side, get to this Maryland young quarterback. He's
(04:16):
like a statue. From what I understand, they don't run
their one dimensional it's it's our secondary is a top
five secondary. So I like that matchup the offensive line
and the defensive lines again. Got to control, win the turnover,
battle field positions and special teams again. So I mean,
(04:37):
just do what we did last week, but do it
for four quarters now. I don't know what the weather
is down there, and they say there's the northeast, but
going through I don't know, but just play good football,
don't turn the ball over. And you know this is
beginning the second half of the season, so this is
another one of those defining games this week and next week
where you can just keep pushing forward. I mean, we
could be ball eligible in two weeks.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Yeah, it's right, it's different. Yeah, it's different. It's fun,
all right, rich Yeah, I don't think we're looking at
a nor'easter and Bethesda maybe a little bit of light rain,
but coach rule hasn't ready to go. All right. Yeah
that's good, Richie. Thank you so much. Gary and Jim
will talk to you next week. Have a good weekend
(05:20):
you too.
