Speaker 1 (00:00):
For the twentieth straight year. Richie and Papillion ore official
Husker fan is here on kfab's Morning News. Hey Richie,
good morning guys.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Congratulations Jim, how about that? I thought I was like
Danie wouldn't tell me anything. That's that's beautiful.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Yeah, it happened seven forty five last night local times,
so it had been about eight nine forty five our time.
Everybody was in bed here.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Well, congratulations. That's tremendous.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Yeah, it's a big, big thrill. And you had you
had a good night too, Richie, right, very Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
I went to a Holy Ghosts the invite I got
for the Husky thing and uh, my man, Greg got
me in there and uh, hanging out with Ron Brown.
He's so tremendously unbelievable, unbelievable, I just I mean, and
when he motivates to speak is incredible.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
He's a dear friend and the man, and the man
never ages, no rob he's got to be sixty something a.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Lot he looks like he could still play.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yeah, oh my goodness. Yeah, tremendous.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
He changed a lot of lives, he made and.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
He's still doing that. He's still doing it. And we
had a good talk, and he's just a tremendous person.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
We need to win this one tomorrow, Retchie, what do
you think we must?
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Must must? You gotta win these games, you know, these
these Michigan States and the Iowas and the Illinois, and
you gotta beat these teams. You know, we should have
won last week. We all know that. And you gotta
finish games, you know. Just I mean, we got to
get locked in, and I think we're going to be
really prepared. I mean, are we number two in the
country and passing?
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Did I read that one or two?
Speaker 3 (01:38):
One or two?
Speaker 2 (01:40):
That's unbelievable? Number one in the past. Defense. I mean,
we got to finish these games, you know, And we
got to get that offensive line that tackle settled. And
I mean Michigan State's got a terrible defense from what
I'm reading, at least, especially the secondary. Have no pass rush.
They never sacked the quarterback. They they've got like forty
missed tackles already. We need to do something here. I mean,
(02:02):
we should be able to score some points here. So
I don't know, I mean, this is the game. What
are we eleven point favorites. Also, it was the last
time that a ten and a.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
Half I think was the last line, but it may
be moving a little here and there here.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Well whatever, I mean eleven and a half and a half. Yeah,
I mean, you know, I'm afraid of his quarterback. This
guy's he's pretty.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Good, cause he's very good.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
He's very athletic. The problem is they just don't have
a lot of playmakers. Uh, he's a playmaker, but on defense.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yeah, but that's the kind of guy that can rush
one hundred and forty the three touchdowns and then we
all know what happens. Well, we got to get off
the field on third down. That's another thing. I mean,
my goodness, we just never seem to do that in
the fourth quarter and finish the game. And they got
an NFL punter too, So we're going to have to
match special teams with them. And with the weather, I
don't know, it's supposed to be like a hurricane tomorrow
(02:52):
or something.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
A hurricane we're going to see gusts up to thirty
plus out of the South. I think will be the
way I think and Rosie, I think we'll be able
to tell pretty early what the fruit is what they've
been working on with the week off, because we know
what they were focusing on we'll see if it's well.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
They were, they were off to it. And here's another thing.
You know, if we do get into the red zone,
kick the field goal please on the first.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Set of down, Yeah, I thought of you. I thought
of you for it. On fourth down against Michigan. I
think I've bet Richie hates this. He's the guy in
the stands God with his arms extended, like, what the
hell are you doing?
Speaker 2 (03:32):
If the second down play? You know, I mean he's
throwing the ball in the corner of the ends. It
has no shot. It's just it's just a wasted down
and a wasted play. And you know, kick the field goal? Well,
how about running the ball up the middle four times
and we're on the sixth stuff like that. I mean,
but they all do and all these coaches do it,
(03:53):
so I don't know what it is. An analytics what
they called it.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Well, the deal is this. If you don't have a
running game, the red zone ain't your friend? This is well, no,
we really don't, not by comparison, but now Michigan State,
well else he is. But you got to have a
scheme and you got to have a commitment to it
to be successful. The teams that run the ball well
(04:17):
score touchdowns in the red zone. That is a It's
an NFL fact. And because the field the field shortens
and the defense hasn't advantage, I got less territory to
cover pass routes. Doesn't mean you can't score on the
through the air in the red zone. But you want
a power running game that is reliable once you get
in the red zone.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Okay, Ritchie watched the screen.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
The offensive line. Offensive line is the whole key there.
You got to win that battle on the other side
to the score. How about a twenty We close it
out on the ground. No, how about that guy.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Here's what I would do if I were to Nebraska,
if I win the toss, I'm going to make them
play into the wind in the first quarter and then
try to get a stop. Try to get a stop. Yeah,
try to get a stop, and then you get the
ball at the fifty yard line.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Richie will see you there, man. Thanks our official Husker fan,
Richie and Papillion. Every Friday during football season,
