Pleasure to welcome back to the program. US Senator Jony
Ernst from our good neighbors in Iowa.

Speaker 5 (01:10):
Jony, good morning, Hey Gary, it's great to be with you.
Thanks you bet.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
Great to have you back here, and I want to
dig in for the moment because it's been front and
center topic wise some of the President ELECTROUMP cabinet nominees,
and you're on the committee. Correct me if I'm wrong.
That will have to vet. P at Hegseth right.

Speaker 5 (01:30):
For DoD Yes, yes, I am.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
What's your view?

Speaker 5 (01:36):
Yeah, go ahead, Gary, what's your view of him? Well?
I have worked with him on veterans issues, and of
course I'm always going to say I appreciate his service,
and I do appreciate the work that he has done
for veterans. You know, Gary, there's a lot of information
out there, and so I am looking forward to visiting

(01:58):
with him face to face. Of course, there will be
some hard questions asked, but that will be up to
us to vet the information, to make sure that the
information is truthful to the best of our knowledge, and
we will sort through this. It's a really unfortunate way
to have to start these processes in the United States Senate.

(02:22):
But again, we're going to have to get to the
bottom of this, figure out what's going on, and then
move forward, whether with this nominee or other nominee.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
Yeah, and I'm particularly interested in your take on Pete's
position you as a former soldier. His position is that
women should not be in combat roles. Do you agree
with him on that?

Speaker 5 (02:44):
I do not agree with him on that, and I
have had these conversations with many others through the years. Now,
I'm not saying that women should be forced to fight
in combat or serve in combat, but certainly we have women.
And I actually had a staffer here in Washington, d C.

(03:05):
She's a good Iowa girl. She is strong as a horse.
She is an infantry officer in the Iowa Army National Guard,
and I'm telling you she could beat the pants off
of most men. So you know, that's that's my take
on it. No, we shouldn't force people to do, you know,

(03:25):
a job that they don't want to do. But let
me tell you what, they're women that are physically, in
some situations, even more capable than men. So I do
disagree with him on this point.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
Okay, but let me let me tell you I have
a problem with one thing. You just said Senator Ernst.
That is, if we're talking about equality, men are forced
to do those guards.

Speaker 6 (03:49):
She's in the army. What do you mean she should
be forced to.

Speaker 5 (03:51):
Found Well, I'm so I would say that I think
as long as they meet the stand if in a
draft situation. So that's a whole probably a whole nother
conversation for another day. But we shouldn't be dropping the standard.

(04:12):
And there are some men that won't meet that standard.
Now they're not going to put them in the infantry
or or combat arms. But I am certainly saying that
there are some women that will excel over men that
are selected to do those positions. So, you know, again,
probably a much longer conversation for another day. But the

(04:35):
draft scenario is yet another situation, and that's something that
I will have to get into with mister haig Seth.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
Yeah, that's going to be an interesting committee hearing for sure.
Let me move on to something that you have done,
which I love, kind of turn the tables on the IRS.
You're doing an audit of the IRS. Is it true
there are almost six thousand IRS employees that are delinquent
on their taxes?

Speaker 5 (05:01):
You better believe it. And yeah, Seriously, there's actually around
fifty eight hundred that, oh, over fifty million dollars in
back taxes. Folks. These are the guys and gals that
are going after all of us out there. But yes,
there are still so many IRS employees that haven't stepped

(05:24):
up and follow their own rules at that agency. So
what I am doing is working on the Audit Audit
the IRS Act, and we can literally end the double
standard and fire all of these bureaucrats that refuse to
live by their own rules.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
That should be the memoum.

Speaker 5 (05:47):
Yeah, it's common sense.

Speaker 6 (05:49):
How can they know? How can they know the rules?
Senator Ertz? The tax code is ten thousand pages long,
you know, fifty years ago sixteen hundred pages long. And
we thought that was bad enough. So Vivekrawam and Elon
Mus say, a postcard, you pay ten percent of everything.

Speaker 7 (06:04):
Send it in. That's it.

Speaker 6 (06:06):
We can eliminate the entire internal Revenue Service and send
it directly to the Treasury. Everybody pays ten percent, you
make ten percent, ten dollars, you pay a buck, you
make a million, you pay one hundred thousand. It's just
that simple.

Speaker 5 (06:19):
Oh my god, Well, you guys know that I am
all about eliminating government waste. I've been working on my
SQUEAL efforts for over ten years, or well close to
ten years now, and I was just literally texting with
the Veke this morning because my team and I have
compiled a memo and it's boiled down this decade of

(06:42):
work that I've been doing, and he and I've been
talking about this. So I am going to present this
memo to the vag and right there we have over
a trillion dollars of savings within the federal government that
will be easily accomplished. He's super excited about this. So
he and Alan are going to to focus on government

(07:02):
efficiency over at the DOGE. And this is so exciting.
I get all geeked out about this because there is
so much waste and it's simple stuff like you just
mentioned with the irs. Come on, there's got to be
a better way of doing this. So I am so
excited about working on these projects with them.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
Very just quickly before we go. I asked Senator Fisher
about this the other day. What is your view on
the AM Radio in Every Vehicle Act and the chances
of getting that done?

Speaker 5 (07:35):
Oh my gosh, Well, you know this is going to
be tough here at the end of the year. And
I am a co sponsor of the AM Radio for
Every Vehicle Act. You know, I live in a rural area.
This is really important, of course to most of my constituents.
And the bill has not gone through the House or
the Senate yet, so we're going to have to look

(07:56):
for some sort of moving what we call a moving
vehicle in the Senate, which would be a bill that
must get done by the end of the year. But
I can't tell you that it's actually going to get done.
But we keep having those conversations.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
That's uh. Look, I agree with rand Paul that government
should not be telling business what to do, but this
is a public safety issue. It really is ill if
you if you you know, we've got Iowa, Nebraska the
same thing. You can be in rural areas and mom
and dad are out there with it in their car
and they don't know a tornado's coming, and a tornado's coming, Well,

(08:34):
they can get w h O and Iowa. They can
get KFA B A PRVA Nebraska.

Speaker 6 (08:37):
And what if a tornado knocks down the cell tower,
then you don't have internet service, you know, if you're
relying on Internet service in rural America.

Speaker 5 (08:44):
Oh no, don't no. Senator, thanks, thank you God bless you.
I really appreciate you guys.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
