Speaker 1 (00:00):
And welcome Nebraska US Senator Deb Fisher back to the program.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Senator, good morning, Good morning Gary.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
Good to have you back. I have difficulty caring a
lot about this, but it's a big buzz topic and
everybody seems to be wondering what's going on with these drones.
Do you have any wisdom for us on that the
drones that are buzzing for several nights, dozens of them,
apparently over in New Jersey and New York.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Well, of course, you know you're worried about it. It's
hard to get answers on where they're from. You know,
we've heard that the Pentagon has said there's no mothership
out there from Iran. They have seen nothing there. FBI
is investigating. But yeah, it's really really frustrating. What I

(00:54):
worry about is when we have drones that are close
to our military basis military operations, that that puts our
war fighters in danger. So we've had briefings on that
in the past how to counter things like that, but
we're just seeing so many of these drones around and yeah,

(01:17):
to worry when you don't know where they're from. One
good thing there was an article out and I did
read in that US Northern Command, which is in Colorado Springs.
They are responsible for the security of our homeland and
they have not been close asked to assist with the events.

(01:38):
So that does put my mind at ease since Northcom
is not on alert with different activities or drones here
in the United States.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Yeah, it's difficult for me to imagine with our military
capability and technology that it would be difficult to find
out what these things are where they're from. I don't
understand that, but apparently it is.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Well, you know, we've got here a couple of years. Yes,
people were seen, you know, especially out this in central
and western Nebraska and never really got any complete answers
on that either. But this is different. People know these

(02:24):
are drones. They're not just seeing you know, lights or
satellites up in up in the up in the sky
at night.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Senator deb Fisher with US got this from Iran an email.
Senator please ask Senator Fisher. Are the Republicans seeing it
is more important to back Trump and his policies to
improve their political status? Do they think if they backed
Trump they will be rewarded in the long run. Is

(02:53):
that the kind of vibe you're getting among your colleagues
on the Republican side.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
No, I no, I haven't. I haven't gotten that at all.
You know, my colleagues that I visit with and myself,
President Trump had a strong showing in this election. He
has a mandate. People are looking for change, They want
this country to be better, and so that's kind of

(03:18):
the discussions that we have as a conference. How can
we help President Trump move ahead with many of his
items and work with him on things. You know, we
may not agree on everything, but it's the job I
think of the United States Senate Republicans to be able
to work with a White House that's looking to make

(03:40):
changes that I certainly heard from Nebraskans during my reelect.
Been working on for years to secure the southern border
to make sure we can get inflation down. President Trump
said the two things in the election were border and groceries.
That's what I said as well. The message is allowed,

(04:00):
no doubt.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
What since we last chatted, and that was I guess
what a couple or three weeks ago. Things My sense
of it is it seems to be looking better than
it did then. For Trump's cabinet nominees. The tide seems
to be turning.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Is that your sense to, Oh, yeah, you know, I
think so. Obviously, as the nominees get around and get
to visit with senators before there, before their hearings, you
have a chance to get to know them, to ask
questions in a in a private setting, and and really
drill down on what they see is the vision for

(04:38):
the department that they've been nominated to lead, and to
also tell them what your priorities are, which is what
I'm doing with all the nominees when they come to
my office. It's it's important to go through that process.
You've heard me say that for important to go through
the process. And then when we have the public hearings,

(04:59):
the people of this kind of are going to be
able to see these people. They're going to be able
to see what their answers are, listen to their answers,
and I suggest they also listen to the questions that
they're asked and see what senators are interested in. But yeah,
I think I think that the President all of his

(05:19):
nominees are going to be confirmed, is what I believe
right now, unless something unusual would happen in a hearing.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Yeah, those errands are going to be must see TV
Senator Fisher, just before we go, how concerned are you
about the upheaval in Syria.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Oh, I'm obviously very worried. I think we should welcome
that a thought is gone. He was not a good guy.
He was vicious with his own people. He was disturbing
force in there. Worked closely with the Russians, and Syrian
provided them bases there. We not. We have to be

(06:01):
worried about what's coming. You know, the head the rebel
group seems to be a group called HTS. They're classified
as a terrorist organization. I don't want to see a
resurgence of ISIS. So yeah, we need, we need to
be worried about what's coming.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Okay, well, let's stay in touch on that and we
probably won't chat before the end of the year. Merry Christmas, Senator,
Merry Christmas. Appreciate you coming on the show always. Nebraska
