Speaker 1 (00:00):
Senator Recketts, is that you this is me, good morning,
good morning, good morning. Well you're only three minutes. Wait,
what the heck?
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Well, you know, Gary, I had to do something special
for like when you're wrapping things up here.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Oh yeah, m hm, yes I am. He's pete.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
He's becoming very difficult to difficult. He's becoming extremely difficult
to deal with. We're really sick and tired of it,
and we're really ready for belief. Just be honest with you.
So we were we were just talking out.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
We were just talking about healthcare subsidies and the deadline.
The clock is ticking, Senator records, where is that right now? Healthcare?
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Well, let's set the table right, go back when Obamacare
was started. We were promised that we keep our doctors
and the healthcare cross would go down. And know that
turned out to be true. So what the Democrats did
is during the pandemic is they created these extra bonuses,
these fighting Obama Care COVID bonuses. Well, the pandemic has
(01:02):
been over for four years and the Democrats have set
them to expire at the end of the December. And
because Albamacare is unaffordable and by the way, jo just
came out report last week showing all the fraud and
corruption in it. The Democrats, however, it said, they want
to just expended and they want no reforms. They don't
(01:23):
want like the JO just did like twenty five fake
accounts that were bogus, and twenty four of them continued
like never got closed down. And that's part of why
this system is so expensive. So the Democrats want to
expend this for three more years just given all this
money insurance companies. What Republicans want to do is change
the systems. So we're giving them money to people while
(01:45):
people to have the money. Ultimately, like we get to
is be able to do the reforms where we could
allow people to buy their own insurance across state lines,
create competition, create high risk pools for people with pre
existing conditions, you know, the things that we know will
help bring healthcare costs down. So we're going to begin
this conversation. The Democrats are going to get a vote
(02:05):
to just do their three year extension, and we're going
to be offering our proposal to which we're looking over
the legislation right now. Might check Crapo and Bocasidy have
just put this have given us this legislation we're going
over right now. But basically it's going to do is
(02:26):
take the money that we would be giving insurance companies
and giving directly to people through HSA, and so we'll
be offering an alternative to it. So I think it's
unlikely that the Democrats are going to vote for our plan.
We're not going to vote for their plans. So we'll
see if there's a compromise that we can get to
(02:46):
after both of us have had a chance to present
our plans and take it from there.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
You've got a night time, you've got ten days.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Well, if we get again, you can move quickly incentive
if everybody agrees, right, you have to have one hundred
percent of people not object to giving back time as
we call it, you know, which means like, okay, we
can move faster than our procedures allow. So if there's
brought agreement to be able to do it, we can.
But it's gonna be a challenge, there's no doubt giving
a challenge, and it can depend on the Democrats wanting
(03:15):
to actually come to some sort of compromise.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Kicking the can is a favorite pastime in the halls
of Congress. What about instead of a three year extension
with the clock with the deadline looming as it is,
how about a one year and then get together and
figure out a compromise or figure out a better plan.
Has anybody brought out.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
There, there's a variety different ideas on that. Like I said,
we're gonna be presenting ours, are going to present theirs,
and then that's where the conversations will come together to
see if there's a compromise.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Afterwards, Well, the president may not like that. The President
may say, guys, that's not the deal. We were not
elected to keep spending more money. I think the Democrats
have to go your way, Pete. It's their people. Most
to their people are voting for Democrats, and their subsidies
are either going to go away or you're going to
(04:08):
actually start giving them to people who really deserve them.
And there were several Democrats who voted to open the government,
so you start with those guys. Have we had any
conversations with them.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Well, there are ongoing conversations with the Democrats. But like
I said, the way the program has feel right now
is they got to present their plan because they want
to say they had a chance to vote on their plan.
We'll present our plan and then that's after both sides plans.
Don't go towhere because you need sixty votes. That's when
(04:42):
we'll be able to see if there's a ground for compromise.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Senator, thank you for your time, and it's always been
a pleasure over the years to chat with you.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Garry. I have so enjoyed being on the radio with you,
and you've done a great service to the people of Nebraska.
But there is a burning question out there.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Yeah, what's that.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
Forty nine not fifty?
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Yeah, yeah, so we wondered you couldn't wait.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
You couldn't hang on one more year, just like wait,
a nice round even number.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
No, No, I couldn't, Pete, pete. We lobbied hard. I mean,
we lobbied really hard and all that. It sounds, it
sounds so symmetrical and everything, but but there are things
that need to get done. And when I think about that,
it's another three hundred and sixty some warnings. Yeah, you know,
but you've had forty nine years to get all that
(05:30):
stuff done. Uh huh, Well, now I'm going to get
it done.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Yeah, all right, you're like the United States Senate Gary.
You wait until the last minute, to do stuff right.
He's ender. Thanks for the time this morning, Appreciate it
very much.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
My pleasure
