Taste of Omaha Features Food, Music, and Perfect Weather

Now I know that we've been promoting Skip Martin, formerly
a Cool and the Gang is coming to town here.
But he's the voice on the dazz band classic Let
It Whip Baby. Yes, yeah, it's you know. Skip Martin
has got an incredible voice, great blues and pop singer
throughout several decades. He did his time with Kool and

the Gang, but the dazz bands Let It Whip and
Joystick great funk sounds from the early eighties.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
And so celebration is the theme. Yeah, this is gonna
be a great weekend to get together and enjoy all
the music. And then on Saturday night we've got Huey
Lewis tribute Power of Love, hard rock and roll, so
many hits there singing. And then locally we've got great
bands is from all over the area, from Jazz and

blues and Rhythm Collective all the way to High Hill,
which you might have met.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Yes, High Heel came in here and did a performance
live on KFAB yesterday morning. You can see that on
my Facebook page. So so again, Taste of Omaha kicks
off today. What time does everything get started? When can
I start just shoving wonderful food in my face?

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Yes? We're today from five to eleven, eleven to eleven
on Saturday, and eleven to eight on Sunday, so lots
of hours. We've got great food from Mexican to Hispanic, with.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Greek, African, African. A lot of these restaurants have been
bringing in food throughout the week, and you know, we
radio people who usually just you know, take our snacks
out of the vending machine. Yeah, you know, like, hey,
here's some African food. Like African food, I don't know
about that, and we were all boxing each other out
to get it. It was so good. They brought in

some really nice spicy beef and rice, and.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
It's just great to try these taste them something off
their menu you may not have tried before Featuring this year,
we're going to have a vegan food you could try
if you haven't those kinds of things. They taste wonderful,
bit aren't maybe a little bit better for you than
some we've got also farm fresh, so if you wanted

something fresh meats and so forth, this would be your opportunity.
And then how about a little Italian Dante coming. It's
just a great showcase of Omaha restaurants, which we have
so many great ones.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
This is a chance to support them. Yeah, it doesn't
cost anything to go to Taste of Omaha. Obviously you
buy anything to eat or drink. That's on you. You're doing that.
There's the wine Garden from Barefoot Wine. Bring the kids
down there because they've got a lot of family friendly activities.
The great amazing Lindy will be out there doing his comedy,

which always stupefies me. That guy is so good. There's
amusement rides and activities, wildlife encounters. There's a beer garden
as well. That's for the adults and lots of great music.
So Omaha's Taxi Driver at six point thirty to night,
followed by Skip Martin of Dazz Band and Cool and
the Gang Fame tonight at nine. Tomorrow is High Heel

at six thirty, followed by Hip to B. Huey, the
Huey Lewis tribute band Blue House is going Sunday afternoon
at three point thirty, and then the Seventies ban Sunday
at six And those guys are amazing and that's just
the costumes. They sound great too. You're gonna hear some
Abba Kiss maybe Stevie Wonder is no telling what incarnation
of the seventies band will be there. But it's all

for free at Heartland of America Park on the river front.
And it's a Taste of Omaha and maybe the best
weather forecast you've ever had for this event.
