Speaker 1 (00:00):
Iran Israel conflict. I think, Jonathan, it might be fair
to say you can call this a war. It'll do
until a war comes along.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
What's the latest, Yeah, an air war if nothing else.
Both sites have been trading missile drone attacks since Friday. Overnight,
Israel said it destroyed more than one hundred and twenty
missile launchers in Iran, which should limit Iran's ability to
attack Israel as it has done, but it did kill

(00:28):
eight people in Israel, all civilians, in that overnight wave. Israel,
though claiming some success. It says that it has managed
to achieve air superiority over Iran's capital, Tehran. Essentially, it
can fly over Tehran without facing any major threats, giving
it some strategic advantage. On the fourth day of this conflict,

(00:50):
do you.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Know how difficult it is? I know the Israelis are trying,
but Iran's a long way away. Really, it's a pretty
good sized country. How successful can Israel be and taking
out their ability to launch these ballistic missiles?

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, I mean Iran much much bigger country than Israel
and quite far away Israel. You know, they have to
cross over at least two other countries in order to
get there Jordan and Iraq, for example, But it does
appear they do appear to a significant amount of success.
They say they've taken out more than a third of
Iran's missile launchers in the center of the country, also

(01:33):
striking ten command centers belonging to Iran's elite coulds force.
And on top of that, early on in this operation
they killed six of Iran's top generals, five nuclear scientists,
and they've bombarded more than a dozen nuclear and military facilities.

(01:54):
They have done a significant amount of damage politically and
militarily to Iran.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Yes, facts just reporting online that the Israeli Air Force
has taken out the intelligence chief of Iran. So they've
degraded their leadership significantly, Jonathan, Yes.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
And perhaps they wanted to degrade the leadership even more significantly.
Is understood that Israel wanted to try to kill to
assassinate Iran Supreme leader, the Ayatola Ali Kamene, but that
was vetoed by President Trump. Perhaps that is that that
could lead to the collapse of law and order in Iran. Also,

(02:32):
the idea that could be no one to negotiate with
because for the US would like is for the two
countries to stop fighting and get to the negotiating table
and find a solution in which Iran cannot develop a
nuclear weapon.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
All right, that's they have to I mean, that's the
goal for the Israelis and all it's all out in
the open now, there's no there's no pulling back from this.
And of course Donald Trump's motivation, I think you hit
on a Jonathan, is to try He wants to avoid wars.
He wants to get the Iranians to negotiate, to get
to the table and say, Okay, you're not going to

(03:08):
have a nuclear weapon. Where can we go from there?

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Yes, And I think Benjamintanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, had
become worried that these negotiations that were taking place were
not providing any kind of outcome as far as he
was concerned. He felt that and he has said that
he believes Iran was weeks away from having one or
possibly more nuclear weapons, and the time to strike was

(03:33):
right now. And it came back just after the world's
nuclear watchdog condemned Iran for breaching the nuclear non Proliferation Treaty. Clearly,
they really government believed that it couldn't wait any longer,
and they couldn't. They couldn't put any more trust in
these negotiations to bring the kind of outcome that they
feel they need to see.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
