Speaker 1 (00:00):
There's been so much has happened in the last few days.
(00:02):
But here's what Trump said earlier this week about what
should be happening this weekend in the Middle East.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
If all of the hostages aren't returned by Saturday at
twelve o'clock, I think it's an appropriate time. I would
say cancel it, and all bets are off and let
hell break out.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
That is President Trump's ultimatum for Hamas released the hostages
by Saturday at twelve o'clock. At twelve o'clock, what time,
Rory East Coast time, Gaza time. What are we talking about?
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Yeah, a little vague on that point. We did get
word from Hamas last night that they will be moving
forward with the release of some hostages. But that's part
of the deal that Hamas and Israel agreed to that
we'd have this phase one structured release of Bell, release
some hostages, Israel internable release some Palestinians who are prisoners
(00:56):
or detainees, and this is going to go back and
forth while both sides try to negotiate a longer peace agreement.
That would be phase two of this de escalation.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Yes, but I'm not sure how many more hostages they
have it's a lot more than three. Didn't they say
they're only going to release three.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Right, But that's what they've been doing. Three. They do three,
and then they released two hundred Palestinians that Israel have
been holding, and then three more and another two or
three hundred, and then it goes back and forth again.
This is supposed to lasts over this six week Phase
one period. We also don't know how many of the
hostages are still alive. They have yet to I don't
(01:40):
think they've turned over just the bodies of hostages either.
So when they told us that, they did not specify
how many hostages or the conditions they would be in
when they're released tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Talking here with Rory O'Neill, twenty four to seven News
with us here on news Radio eleven ten kfab. Is
this just you know, Trump throwing out another, you know,
a big statement here, or is this a you know,
Syrian red line moment for the president like it was
for Obama, like hey don't do this other way. You
cross this red line, that'd be trouble. Well, Syria crossed
(02:14):
it and then nothing really really happened. I mean, Trump
throws a lot of stuff out there and We've just
come to expect that. But if he says, all, hell's
going to break loose here by noon Saturday, if they
don't release all the hostages, and if they don't release
all the hostages and nothing happens, that seems like maybe
the wrong move there.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
Well, you know, don't forget Israel is the other player
in this, right and then you know, met Yahoo could
easily provide cover to Trump if he says, well, we
don't need them all where the peace process is moving forward.
You know, you could easily cover Trump for the demand
that he made on releasing hostages immediately. Look, you know
the world has been saying release the hostages immediately October seventh, right, So,
(03:02):
but Hamas has agreed to stick with this plan. And
again we'll have to see who is released, how they're released.
There were a lot more concerns after the last group
release because of the appearance of the hostages. They looked malnourished,
they looked gaunt and sickly, and so there are questions
about how well they're being treated while in captivity.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Absolutely just part of what we're watching here in the
next couple of days. It was about this time yesterday
RFK Junior was confirmed as the new Secretary of Health
and Human Services. Another story you've been following. Mitch McConnell
voted against him. He was concerned that RFK Junior would
start slapping vaccines out of the arms of kids. So
what's the latest done all of this, Rory?
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Yeah, RFK Jr. Is the new Secretary of Health and
Human Services. His nomination got through the Senate yesterday. All
the Democrats voted against him. Imagine that, all the Democrats
voting against Bobby Kennedy's son, and they were joined and
as you said by Mitch McConnell, so it was a
fifty two to forty eight vote with the Republicans having
the majority to get Kennedy through. Kennedy did soften his
(04:10):
rhetoric a bit during the confirmation process, not so anti
vax sounding in some of those hearings, and really trying
to pivot a bit and focus more on making America
healthy again, trying to minimize chronic diseases among children. So
he tried to soften his approach despite some of the
rhetoric that we've heard from him in these past few decades.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Really, I don't mind someone going in there and asking
questions that apparently you weren't previously allowed to ask, But
curious as to what happens with those answers. Boy, what
you just said there about all the Democrats voting against
Bobby Kennedy's son, You're right and you think of it
that way. Could never believe would be at this point
on so many fronts. Rory, thanks a lot for covering
(04:55):
for us. We always appreciate talking with you.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
Thanks, have a good weekend.
