Speaker 1 (00:00):
Gary Sattlelmaerkab's morning News Rosie Sports Brief coming right up.
Great to have Tanya jay Powers Fox News Radio with
us for a few minutes to amplify on a term
I was not familiar with, Tanya, and that's gas station heroin.
The health authorities are warning about this. What's the story.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Yeah, this is something that people need to understand that
is out there. It is being sold, you know, in
gas stations and convenient stores, in safe shops. It is
called seven oh. It is by definition an opioid. This
is coming from the FDA. This week they announced their
initiating action to recommend scheduling seven oh as a controlled

(00:40):
substance by the DEA. So that is important just because
let me tell you a little bit about seven oh
and why they're worried. It is a synthetic concentrated by
product of creatum is a plant that's a tropical tree
that's native to Southeast Asia. Here's how you spell it,
And this is important because you may see this word

(01:01):
on the label and that'll tip you off that this
is the product we're talking about. It felt k R
A t O m R, So it starts with a K.
The thing can know about seven Oh h is uh.
This is coming from the Journal of Medical Chemistry. It
is thirteen times more potent than morphine.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
So how.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Did this get passed the regulators in the first place.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Well, the thing is, it's it's not regulated. It is
you know, I guess, being sold under the dietary supplement
kind of banner. That is why the SEA is taking action.
Now that's doctor Marty McCarey, the FDA head, was you're
talking about this earlier in a press conference, and what
he said was that in the past, the US has
been kind of slow to react to you know, substances

(01:50):
that should have been classified before they were and you know,
founding the alarm about things. He said, he wants to
get in front of this and get the word out
about what's going on. Let me tell you how this
is sold so you'll know what to look for. Its
sold as tablets, gummies, drink mixes, shots, those little shots
that use a lot of times they're you know, marketed

(02:11):
as energy shots. They sell them in gas stations and say, okay,
that's the little bottle I'm talking about. When I say shot,
they may say on the label energy, they may say
cretum shot, which is again why I want you to
know it's spelled with a K. They may say cretum
alkaloid gummies, they may say hydroxy with an ie, they
may say dietary supplements. They also may have the name

(02:35):
that seven OH is short for, which is seven hydroxy
matrogeny big long words. Sometimes that is on the label
as well. So it's some of these labels it's difficult
to tell you know what exactly is this is this
in it. If you go to the FDA's website, take
a few minutes for your for your own safety, take

(02:58):
a look at their website. You can actually just google
FDA and seven O H at the same time and
it will come up. It'll bring you the articles that
they have about this. They've got a lot of information.
They've also got links in there that will take you
to look at photos of the actual labels of some
of these products, so you know what you're looking for.
That's important to note. Like I said, seven O H

(03:19):
create them. Those are the two things that hydroxy those
are those are some of the big words that they
that they will have on these.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Labels, or seven dioxy trianuptin. I'm thinking if I'm a
gas station owner, any kind of store owner, bait shop
or whatever. I just clear my shelves of that stuff
right now, if you're aware of it, If you're aware
of this, yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
The FDA actually has sent letters to seven I believe
seven companies that are marketing and selling these things, the
big companies that are distributing it, basically telling them to stop. Now.
How successful that's going to be is another thing. But
they are moving, like I said, to make this a
controlled substance from the DEA. That is where this is going.

(04:00):
And that's one of the reasons this is getting so
much attention right now, is because they're trying to you know,
kind of head this off before it gets any any
worse and becomes another you know, oploid crisis, you know,
two point zero or whatever.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Right, great info, Tanya, Thanks sure, good to have you
