Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jeff Monasso joins me, I think I misspoke a bit
ago about the real IDE deadline. I said Saturday. I
believe it's Wednesday. Jeff, Good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Yep, good morning, it's the seventh, my friend. And so
that driver's license or an ID car that you have,
it's going to have to be identified by a star
on the upper right corner. That's the that's the real ID,
the that that that apparently meet specific federal security standards.
That's going to be required to do a couple of things,
the boarding domestic flights and to access certain federal facilities.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Yeah, we've been in pretty good shape in Nebraska for
I guess five years. We've been doing that with our
driver's licenses. But you know what's interesting to me, Uh,
I didn't do anything different. I didn't. They didn't ask
any different questions. I just got my driver's license renewed.
And there's the real I D star up in the
upper right corner. So how do they How do they
know I'm not a desperado? You know what I mean? Well,

(00:56):
you have the star man, Yeah, you got to start,
I know. But but everybo he's got driver's licenses, and
some people that have them aren't very trustworthy or safe people.
All Right, My question is what what makes the real
ID star valid as far as being a safe traveler.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
It's a really good question.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
One and then one that I can't answer. But this
is this is this is all part.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
I just know. You have to have it. That's it.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah, you have to have it. And yeah, there's always
complaints that. Look, this is part of the federal government,
you know, plan to you know, implement a national ID card.
We talked to TSA Acting Director Deputy Administrator Brian Saul
last week. He said that's false. He said, this is
just part of a law that was passed twenty years

(01:50):
ago by Congress. I was following nine to eleven to
to to you know, address vulnerabilities, and this is about
strengthening the security of our skies and ensuring it sufficient
level of document and identity. So I guess I would
imagine that if you've got a real idea, it just
means that you are legitimately allowed to be here. Uh

(02:10):
and and and you've you've got a legitimate idea, that's
you know, not fake.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
A you are excuse me, I'm sorry, Jeff, did we
have any idea what what the numbers are in terms
of people trying to get on planes that don't have
real ID. I mean, isn't this to a great extent
much ado about nothing?

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Well up until now, Uh, you know, I realized, you know,
you're your regular idea that essentially worked, and and you
know there's gonna be people opting out just saying, look,
I my my license is going to expire, say in
a year or two from now, so I'm not dealing
with it. I'm not running down a d MB to
get it, you know, to make an extra trip trip
down there. I'm going to use my passport or other

(02:55):
government you know IDs for for for travel, or I'm
just gonna wait until my current driver's license or idea expires.
I'm gonna go back to the d MV like we
always do, and in which you're going to come out
with your your updated real ID. Uh. We we are
told that, you know, it's not like you're gonna go
to the airport and you're not. If you don't have

(03:16):
a real I D they're going to turn you away.
It looks like anyway, based on what we're hearing, that
there's going to be a phased approach in terms of
how to deal with people who don't have real IDs.
You know, maybe you know, maybe a three strike system,
maybe warnings that I would I would say this, if
you don't have your real i D, get to the

(03:37):
airport early, just to just to make sure that you
know you're you're not being held up.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
What's acceptable besides passport?

Speaker 2 (03:48):
A real ID?

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Yeah? Okay, so ani of that are a passport? All right?
So you My next question was what's going to be
the result as far as a if you don't have one,
But you're saying, it's probably not going to be a
delay right away. They're going to give you a warning
or something, so you should be able to travel.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah, it sounds like like, like I said, so what
we're told that it's going to be a phased approach
and and at some point they're gonna be like, hey,
look you you know you don't have it. You're you're
you're not getting on. But it sounds like there might
be some sort of warning system, three strikes, final strike. Hey,
look you've got to get that. You've got to get
you know, either your passport, uh you know, valent up

(04:32):
to get a passport or or your real I D
for you know, preferred form of ID for travel, but eventually,
you know, once you you know, as the years go by,
we're all going to have real IDs, because that's what
all fifty states are doing in compliance with the several law.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Well, eventually we're going to be like China and they'll
know who we are by facial recognition any.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Anywhere we go.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Hopebully not probably, No

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Hey, Jeff, thanks always good to Havejeff Bonasso, Fox News Radio,
