Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sadday in America. We have, as you know, of course,
the twenty fourth observance of nine to eleven, and we
heard from first responder Joe cardin Alley earlier and the
shocking news yesterday the assassination of one of the great
young stars in Conservatism, Charlie Kirk on campus in Utah, assassinated.

(00:23):
And we're joined for a few minutes this morning. He
was so impactful to young people particularly, and we're joined
for a few minutes this morning by the President of
the Young Republicans, Hayden Paget. Hayden, good morning, good morning,
It's good to have you here. Was Charlie Kirk a
person who was inspiring to you in your journey as

(00:47):
a young person in the Conservatism.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
He was inspiring to all of us. I mean, Charlie
and I are are same age, just like he was.
He and his wife are the same ages. A lot
of our my members. So as he started his movement,
as he started speaking out more prominently and more boldly
and more courageously, and his organization started to bring more

(01:13):
people in. It was a lot of our members who
were brought in. It's a lot of our members who
went to events he planned at their colleges and then
maybe the first thing they ever heard about conservative ideas.
So in so many ways, he impacted our generation millennials
gen Z in such a unique way. So his loss

(01:37):
touches so many of us.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
He doesn't he he was. He was the person that
I think because he was so effective is why he
was killed. I mean, you start, you start reaching young people.
That's where the left really plows their best ground, and
Charlie was changing heart and minds on college campuses. Is

(02:02):
there anybody who can replace him? Who is anybody coming
up who can be anything as like as impactful as
Charlie Kirk was.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
You'll never ably replace Charlie. He was a unique person.
He was a niquely talented person. But as you said,
the reason he was targeted was because he was so
effective at getting these conservative ideas out there and challenging people,
to young people in particular, to consider different ideas and

(02:35):
think differently about the way the world works, the way
the world should be. What I hope happens is that
groups like mine and leaders in all different places in
the conservative movement come together and recognize that we can't
replace Charlie, but together we can continue on the work

(02:56):
he was doing and hopefully, by an example, make it
even stronger than he left it. I think that would
be the best way telling her his memory.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
I got this we're talking with Hayden Paget, the president
of the Young Republicans. Hayden, I got this in earlier
from a listener.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Good morning, Gary and Jim. First off, prayers, especially for
Charlie's two young girls and his wife. I just want
to know where we go from here? What direction? The
man was an epitome of civil discourse and how not
to use violence and how to use your tongue, and they.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
Killed them for it.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Where which way do we go? They're going to kill
us for speaking?

Speaker 1 (03:44):
I appreciate that call, and I assume Hayden that he's
speaking about we as a country. Where do we go?
Are we going to see conservatives banned from campuses now
because of liability? Are we're going to see conservatives saying
I'm not going to go there, it's not safe.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
No, No, we have to keep going. The assassin didn't
just want to get rid of Charlie. He wanted to
get rid of his ideas. He wanted to make us
afraid to speak afraid to be public with what we believe,
and we can't let him win. We have to continue

(04:22):
to speak. We have to continue to be ourselves out
in the public proudly, so we continue to engage with
young people and bring them into our cause. We cannot
let this make us afraid. We have to continue to
be bold, continue to be courageous, just like Charlie was.
That is the only response we can have in this time.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
Well, you think about it, of all of the conservative
fire brands in the country today, he was the least
truculent of all of them, the least beligient. You look
at Tucker Carlson, you look at Steve Bannon, you look
at Alex Jones, Ben Shapiro, you look at gran good One.
You look at some of these others that are far
more fire and brimstone conservative types who are not socratic.

(05:08):
They come out and say you're this, you're this, you're this,
and blah blah blah. These are the ones that to
me seem to be much higher on the list of candidates.
Unless this conspiracy to start wiping out conservative voices started
with the guy who was making the most impact with
the next generation of voters and that would be Charlie Kirk.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Yeah, that couldn't agree more.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Couldn't agree more with that, Ayden, Thanks for the time
this morning, and just before we go, do you you've
got your finger on the pulse of this every day.
How much growth are we seeing among young people in conservatism?

Speaker 2 (05:50):
During the president's election last year, we saw a tremendous growth.
So many people, particularly those who were just coming out
of college, were starting to come over to the conservative whopment,
learned to vote Republican and we're seeing we have been
seeing that continue in the last Call It year. I
strongly believe if we all stay courageous, that that will

(06:14):
go even faster.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Now, Thank you, Eddan, appreciate the time very much.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Thank you,
