Speaker 1 (00:00):
Scott Bodies the pleasure not just to welcome back here
on the radio program for now his third appearance on
the show, but also welcome him in Omaha this weekend
at the brand new location, which for old timers like
me is also really close to the old time location
of Omaha's Funny Bone, known to audiences on Fox News
(00:22):
as being a regular panelist on Gutfeld. It's Jamie Lisso
back here in town for.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Forty nine years.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
I thought that local anesthesia meant that they got it
like from around here.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
I thought they go, hey, we spent a little lexture.
We went to a farmer's market. We got you some
local anesthesia.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
It's supposed to be real good for your allergies, and
we are supporting the local economy.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
Pleasure to welcome back here on eleven to ten kfab
Jamie Lisso, Jamie, good morning, Thank you morn Scott.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Very excited to be back. And I also remember the
old Omaha location. Yes, I better on that long well.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
I it's good for a couple of gen exters to
sit here and chat. We've talked to you a few
times here on the program before. It's great to have
you back on here. Not to really sell a lot
in the way of tickets. You're doing three shows at
the Bone this weekend. Tomorrow night's show has already sold out,
and Colleens says there are only a couple of tickets
(01:20):
that remain for the Saturday shows. There are two shows
on Saturday Omaha dot Funnybone dot com. But we've talked
before about some more political things and so forth. I
want to spend this time together talking more about comedy.
And here's a little bit of a politically themed preamble
if you'll give me a moment on this, okay, sure,
(01:41):
all right. So, as a comedian, you're always trying to,
especially one that delves into some news topics, You're always
trying to put an absurd spin on things. Well, just
in the last week, the President of the United States
tweeted out a video of him wearing a crown and
flying a fighter jet, hiring danger zone dropping liquid pooh
(02:03):
on protesters, while his press secretary responded to a reporter
with who authorized this? Your mom did? So when all
this is going on, how do you, as a comedian say, oh,
these are the people with whom I am competing. How
do I be more absurd?
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Than them.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Well, first of all, I think there's a fifty percent
chance that was Ai that video.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Ye maybe.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Yeah. My One of my favorite things about this administration
is in fact, especially Trump, Man. I feel like he
has a pretty good sense of humor, which I don't
know that I've seen that in my lifetime. And also
he loves it trolling the other side. And I'm here
for it, man, I am here for it, Like I
(02:49):
think it's so. I just feel like life too short.
It's probably like about Elon Musk, like he's this business
guy doing all this stuff, but like a tenth of
his day is spent trying to be funny. And I
really do respect that, man. I respect Trump's sense of humor.
I think it's something that was kind of missing we
all loved. I don't know, I thought that video was
hilarious and I loved how up an arm so many people,
(03:13):
so many people got about that. It's so funny that
he I don't know, I love it, man. I just
like too many politicians try to be this fake person
that none of that I can't really relate to. And
I feel like Trump's the first guy where I go
ah Man, even JD Man the other day. I don't
know if you heard him with George Stefanopoulos there.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Well, I'm trying to remember what he said.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
He basically said, you know, like George wouldn't answer. He
kept asking about the home and thing, and you know,
the bribe, and Jad had been on for like other reasons,
and then JD. Vans just out of nowhere it goes. Man.
You know, George, the reason you have no more viewers
than you've lost your credibility is because you're, you know,
catering to these esotari you know, I don't know, he
just like took a moment to just make it into
a roast and I don't know, man, I'm here for it.
(03:58):
I'm here for it. By the way, stephan I didn't know.
That's like the longest last name I've ever heard. I
looked it up and it's his mom was from Greece
and his dad was from Sesame Street.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
I see, we're learning something to do as as we
always do. That's good.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
I once had Stephanopoulos on the show. He was promoting
some book. This was back in nineteen ninety whatever, and
I said, we welcome here, a former political advisor to
Bill Clinton White House Press secretary whatever he was George
or actually, no, I'm sorry, Sorry I screwed it up.
I said, we welcome the author of whatever the heck
this book is, George Stephanopolis. George, what did you do
(04:38):
before you were an author? And there was a really
long pause as he was trying to determine whether I
was jacking with him, and then then he started laughing
and figured I was, so he was.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
He was kind of fun.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
But how did you when you want to go see
stand up comedians? Jamie, who do you want to go see?
Speaker 3 (04:56):
You know, I'll be honest with you. At this stage
in my career, maybe it's because I'm so busy, but
I rarely get to see stand up comedy. But I
will say I am going to a stand up comedy show,
a little bit musical, little bit comedy on I think Monday,
that I could not be more excited about. And I
have not been in the audience at a comedy show
(05:19):
probably in like five years, unless I'm like going to
visit a buddy or something. But I am going to
see Adam Sandler.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
I knew you were going.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
Did you know that he was just here in Omaha
on Tuesday night? And I saw him when he was
here a couple of years ago. He puts on a
great show. I won't go into the reasons why I
couldn't go this week, but I've just been heartbroken. He
had Spade and Kevin Nalan with him on this show
here in Omaha, and I guess it was just fantastic
and I'm so disappointed I wasn't there.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
I know, oh man, I wish he could have gone,
because I think he might have at this one. You
never know, it's how you go. But I think he
might have Kevin James Spade, and I think Neilan's going
to be there too. I'm of course hanging with Rob
Schneider is going to be there, and so and boys
is where I live. That's where my uh me and
my new wife live. We live in Boise, Andalaska, so
it's a home game. And so I'm bringing my oldest
(06:11):
boy and that's that's probably my number one. I think.
I also like that he's so you know, like like
if you're a comedian, and sometimes I don't know if
you have this with in your job, but sometimes it's
hard to go to someone else's work, Like it's hard
to like go see a comedy show because I feel
like I'm still at work on my night off. And
the Sandler show is just such an experience that it
(06:36):
is my favorite. He's got my favorite show man. I've
seen every one of his his tours and just the
way he mixes, you know, it's not all funny. There's
a Chris Farley song that it'll make you cry man
if the ticket crisis don't and.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Yeah it's it's not cheap.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
And that Farley song is beautiful that gets me every
single time.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
I love the I Want to Grow Old with You
songs from fifty first dates. Ah, it's a great experience.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Yeah, yeah, well from wedding singer actually, sorry to correct.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
You, wedding singer.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
And if Schneider's there, hopefully he'll do the Elvis thing,
so yeah, you'll get some good music as well. Even
Vanilla Ice was with the Sandler at one of these shows.
They did Ice Ice Baby together. There's no telling what
you'll come into. So when people go see you as
part of the Better Off Dad Comedy Tour at the
Funny Bone this weekend for these shows, the tickets that
(07:31):
are still available for the Saturday shows, what are they
in store for Jamie.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
I'll tell you what it's. It's my stand up comedy
that I've been doing for honestly, much longer than I've
been doing gutfeldt you know, like the political leaning show.
I've been to even stand it for a long time.
So since you know, two thousand and one I did
lean out, this has been my job before any other job.
And I do feel like I have prioritized on this
new tour. I prioritize like just just everyone being able
(07:59):
to have a good time, you know, Like I think
I did more politics the first time I toured after
Gusfeld and now I sort of I think people might
need a break from serious topics. I feel like even
if you write a really good joke, you know, people
might get worried about the world, and they might it's
a it's a high stress world right now, And so
I would say you can expect more more of just
(08:22):
straight stand up comedy. Like I did just get married
and so I'm talking about that, and like I got kids,
so I'm talking about that. So this hour is more
of a all are welcome hour of stand up comedy.
I'm not trying to change anybody's mind, make anybody feel
bad I'm also not there to I probably know where
ninety nine percent of the crowd stands politically, so we
(08:42):
don't need to have an echo chamber situation, you know.
Like I feel like it's a break from I think
it's just a break. It's a break. It's a straight
stand up comedy talking about life, talking about the problems
we all have, talking about the money problems we all have,
the problems with kids, and I love this new hour Man.
It just feels very feels very authentic to me to
be able to talk about things that really relate.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
To everybody, make America laugh again. Before we let you
go here, Jamie, as we got just a couple more minutes.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
I'm gonna make that hat. I'm gonna make that hat,
and I'm gonna sult this weekend.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
Mala Jamie Lisso with us here in eleven ten kfab
for just another minute. Let's go back to that Leno appearance.
Was that your first stand up comedy TV experience? And
if so, how are you able to sleep in the
nights leading up to that show.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
I'll tell you what I got. I got lucky. Sometimes
I like to reframe bad things as luck, Like, for instance,
when things happened with my ex wife that I won't
go into. When I think about those bad things, I
think about them almost as lucky, like, oh, I got
my freedom and I got to live this new life.
This is how I reframe things. It with Leno. I
remember they told me you're going to be on next
(09:47):
Tuesday or something. I'm like, okay. So I went in
Tuesday just so much anxiety. Never been on TV before,
so nervous. Knew my set backwards and forwards, but like
ready to go, but definitely nervous. And I went in
on Tuesday, and I went to the studio, got dressed,
and I got bumped by somebody, Like I don't know,
I don't know how that happens. But I went home.
And so then two weeks later, I got another date
(10:08):
and I got dressed and I went to the studio
and I put my suit on and I got bumped again.
And so some would look at that as like, ah,
it's annoying. It was the greatest thing that by the
time I did it, I was like, can we please?
Can I please just do the tonight show? Can I
please just get up there? And I'd been running my
set for months and months and so getting bumped twice
was maybe the best thing that happened to me, because
(10:29):
by the time I got there, the nerves were gone.
And dude, check this out. This is I swear this
is true. The Sunday before the time I was actually on,
I was at the grocery store in her most of Beach, California,
where I lived at the time, and my sister. I'm
with my sister and she goes, oh my god, and
I look and Jay Leno is in front of me
at the grocery store by himself, no security, no anybody,
(10:53):
and she goes, you have to say something, and I
go okay, and I go jay Leno and he goes,
hey man, and I go hey, I'm on your show Tuesday,
and he goes, you are. And he was just because
he expected me to just be like guy recognizing him.
He was super nice and people always ask me what
was he buying. He was buying the biggest box of
cornflakes I have ever seen, just one box of crowd
(11:15):
I don't know, I got nothing behind that, but that's
what he was buying. And so even that was cool.
Like that. I met Jay before I went on for
a minute, and so I feel like the stars kind
of aligned.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
That's great.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
It was when you go on there, even when you
get bumped, you're still hanging out backstage. You're hanging out
with whatever Hollywood stars he has on that night, Like
who'd you get to chat up backstage and be like, yeah,
I'll be on there in a minute. And then you're
not on there. Your family's thinking you're going to be
on there, you're not on there. Who'd you get to
hang out with?
Speaker 3 (11:43):
Well? The good news is my families used to be
disappointing them, so that was perfect for everybody. But I
was on with Oh my god, I was on with
Benjamin Brett.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
It was two thousand and one, wasn't it.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, way back. And then the US col
artist was great and I'm having trouble remember I think
it was like Corner somebody it was, but it was great. Man,
you like watch a little concert sitting in the chair
and Oh, Michael Imperioli, I think was the guy that
I was supposed to be on with and got bumped,
and he was just an amazing dude. I don't know
(12:16):
if you know you fan of Michael Impioli, but it
was pre him being super famous. On the Sopranos, right,
and so I kind of wish I could go back
and get his number.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
Yeah, well, maybe he can come to the show here
in Omaha this week. I don't know if he knows
where Omaha is, but you never know. It's Omaha Dot
Funnybone dot com. New address. You were finally back to
playing Lower Dodge, Jamie at the Funnybones New vacation off
one hundred and fourteenth The Dodge, Lower Dodge. Look forward
(12:45):
to seeing you in town this weekend.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
Jamie. Thanks a lot for all the time this morning.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
All right, man, good talking to you.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
We'll do it again, all right, thank.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
