Speaker 1 (00:00):
Scott Vorgiez. This past Monday night, a group of activists
convened at the Omaha Public School Board meeting, and they
all yelled at each other. And I'm tired of every
single person, just pretty much every single person who went
to the meeting and all the responses at the meeting.

(00:22):
That's why I look at this issue, and that's why
I and mister Costanza say.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
I got a lot of problems with your people.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
First of all, it had to do with the ICE operation.
Stop calling it a raid. ICE operation at a local
food packing plant last week. Yeah, so, ICE targeted about
one hundred people on a list with their names, which

(00:51):
also included the names of the identities they'd stolen to
work there, and made lives harder for those people. We'll
get back on that in a moment. And these people
were detained, mean, most of them moved out to North Platte.
It's beautiful country out there, sandhills, nice people, good, good
golf courses. What's the problem. But people went to the

(01:11):
school board meeting to complain. Question number one, If Immigration
and Customs Enforcement goes to a food packing plant detains people,
what in the world does that have to do with
schools answer nothing. But the activists were mad because the

(01:34):
superintendent of schools, doctor Matthew Ray, who still fairly knew
in that job, hadn't spoken out against the raids. You
know who else hadn't spoken out. Guy that runs that
coffee shop over there, and then there's a meter made
downtown and didn't say anything about it. And some arborists
in Bellevue didn't issue a statement because all those people

(01:57):
have about as much to do with the ice opera
as the superintendent of schools. He doesn't, he has nothing
to do with it. So the activists showed up all
mad at doctor Ray, going, how come you're not gonna
say anything? Do something? Do what? But he issued a
statement and he said, quote if my lack of public

(02:21):
comment has caused concern, concern.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Among who who went to bed any night last week, going,
when is the superintendent of the school district going to
say something about something that has nothing to do with him?

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Are you lying in bed thinking about Matthew Ray? Cool?
He says, quote, if my lack of public comment has
caused concern, I hear that, do you? That's not my intent,
he said, I believe my role is to stay grounded
be present and focus on real solutions that support our

(02:58):
students and families. Well, of course, immigration does have some
roots in what happens in our school which leads me
to another problem I have with all of the people
at this meeting, not just those who showed up at
the school board meeting complaining that they ought to do something.
Here's what one of those activists said. By the way,
the story here from KETV News Watch seven. Guy named

(03:22):
Russell showed up and yelled at the school board and said,
the way I see it, this ICE enforcement, the safety
planning and response planning that goes around that should not
be any different from your disaster recovery planning shouldn't be
any different than a shooter drill should not be any
different than a fire drill anything like that. I think

(03:43):
it should be taken to seriously, which means that your teacher,
is your faculty need to be prepared. Yes, a shooter drill,
where someone goes in there and could and too often
does indiscriminately murder innocent people, is exactly the same as

(04:05):
an operation where ICE finds that someone is engaged in
criminal activity and it's time to go get them wherever
they are at that time. This happens so incredibly rarely
in any school anywhere in the country that it's statistically
never happens. But I can't say it never happens, because
I'm sure it's happened. I don't know three times, I

(04:28):
don't know, I don't know. It's not very often. They
try not to do this in a school, but sometimes
are in and around a school. We know where the
person is. Police and ICE will go in there to
get a suspect. So when that happens, I can tell

(04:49):
you this with full confidence. No one dies in a
fire drill. Oh, we have to quickly and orderly get
out of the school because there might be a fire.
A fire could trap us in here and kill us. Again,

(05:10):
that's another situation where people could die. Very important in
a shooter drill, a fire drill, a tornado drill, it's
very important to make sure students know exactly what's going
on for the safety of themselves and those around them,
and so they don't perish. And this guy says, an

(05:31):
ice drill is no different because if ICE goes in there,
people will die. So this is the mindset of the
people that showed up at the school board meeting. In fact,
one woman brought up here in Omaha. She says, yes,

(05:54):
it's very important that the school do more to protect immigrants.
No one's going after immigrants, illegal immigrants who are committing crimes.
One woman said, oh, yeah, there were two boys from
South High School apprehended by ICE agents in nineteen ninety two.
I don't even think that happened at the school. They
were students at the school. And she says, oh, yeah,

(06:17):
this is terrible. It's happening all the time. It happened
thirty three years ago and could happen again at any moment,
but it didn't. I don't think that happened at the school.
And they said, well, these schools need to do more
to protect these students and their families, or let's look

(06:39):
at it a different way. Omaha Public Schools again reiterated
we don't ask about immigration status when enrolling people. If
you come down here and you want to be a student,
or you've got to have your kid be a student
in our schools, we don't ask about immigration status. That's
not our job. We just said, you can these kids. Yes,

(07:01):
they educate these kids in an environment that's continuously strained
for space, teacher, patients, and money. All of these things
could be alleviated if you don't allow those who are
not in the country legally, who in some instances aren't
paying some of the taxes that go to our schools

(07:21):
yet reaping those benefits. We could eliminate some of the crowding,
the expenses. All of this puts a strain on teachers.
In some instances, teachers say, you know, I'm a very
good math teacher. I can tell you about the sign
and the co sign, both of them. But I don't

(07:42):
speak seventeen different languages, and in my crowded classroom, I'm
apparently called upon to do this, and my tenure at
the school, along with my rating and ability to receive promotions,
is based on getting all these students to learn and
get good grows raids. Many of these students can't understand

(08:02):
a word. I'm saying this is somehow my fault. So
perhaps we could do better for our schools if we
don't have the students in there who shouldn't be in there.
This could be a great thing for the schools to
do to protect our investment in our schools, in our youth,

(08:27):
and in our teachers. But they don't do that either,
And no one seemed to be bringing that up in
the school board meeting the other night. They just wanted
the school board to say something about a raid that
operation that had nothing to do with the schools, and
to apparently include a oh, Ice is in the school.
Under your desks, everyone, they'll never get us here, get

(08:51):
into the coat room. Ice will never think to look
for the student that they will absolutely find in the
school in the coat room. In a shooter drill. The
students are taught, in some instances to have to defend themselves.
Is that what we're gonna teach them in an ICE operation?
Immigration Customs enforcement walks in there. Hey, we're looking for

(09:14):
this kid. We have reasonab believe he's in the school
and a potential danger, and they start throwing cans of
creamed corn at the ICE agents. Is that what we're
doing here? Is Ice not gonna I mean, in a
fire drill, you go outside because it's highly unlikely the
fire that starts in the boiler room is going to
chase you outside and across the street, but Ice will,

(09:40):
So what would that drill look like? All right, lineup,
We're gonna go outside and Ice suddenly like they get
in the building, they're looking around, going where is he?
And they look out the window and there he is,
going nanny, nanny, boo boo. And they're like, ooh, we
can't get him. Now we're supposed to get him in
the building. Now he's out of the building. What exactly

(10:00):
would this drill?

Speaker 2 (10:01):
Do you?

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Morons?

Speaker 2 (10:06):
Up?

Speaker 1 (10:07):
Next Fox News Update, weather forecast, and the reality of
what's going on in South Omaha. And as it turns out,
I have about as much patience for that situation as
I do the Omaha School District one. We'll get to
it next, Scott Voice. There are some businesses still closed

(10:27):
in South Omaha. The again ICE operation, Immigration Customs Enforcement
targeted operation where they were looking for I believe the
number now they're saying not about one hundred, but the
number we initially got, which is around one hundred, is

(10:49):
ninety one specific names, and we're working at a specific place.
And I do look forward to getting more details about
why that particular locale was chosen and whether anyone who
worked within the friendly confines of that food packing plant.
And from what I hear is not management, not management,

(11:14):
but there's there's still wheels turning there and we don't
know the whole story, but what we're hearing consistently is
ninety one people were targeted because they'd stolen identities. These
identities belong to people who are in the country legally

(11:35):
or obviously in the country legally because they're citizens, but
they're Hispanics. And if you're in the country illegally and
you're from Hispania, then you're going you're not going to
choose the name Edna Krabappel if you're a twenty three
year old apple that's a Simpsons reference ding, You're not

(11:59):
going to use that name if you're a twenty three
year old dude. So they have to find like, all right,
I'm coming here as a twenty something year old ombre
and I need a name that kind of looks like
what I look like. And so if someone's able to

(12:19):
you know, every time you hear one of these stories
in the news that says, oh, this particular business or
website or whatever, and perhaps your identity was stolen, you
hear it the news. Sometimes you get a call from
people and you think, oh, I got to change my passwords.
Maybe I should get a new credit card, cancel the
old one, you know, so it's a hassle for everyone.

(12:43):
I don't know always the intent of every single person
has ever tried to steal identities. But from what experts say,
there is a bank. Just like if if you need
what lucy, is there anything you need to buy a
new one?

Speaker 2 (12:59):
Do you want the whole? There's just a top ten if.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
You need a new rake for all of your landscaping projects. Okay,
then you go to the store and you peruse the rakes. Oh,
I like to handle on this one. The times are
set a little closer together on this one. That's really
what I need. Don't you hate it when you're raking
and what you're trying to rake just ends up slipping
between wide times. That's why you need to go with

(13:23):
the tight time rake by Hasbro. I don't know if
there's U and I'm willing to do these ads. Willing
to do these ads. All you got to do is ask,
so you when you need a rake, you go shopping
for a rake. I go to the rake store. Yeah,
there's a there are places where you know you can
go shop for rakes. When you need an identity, what

(13:44):
do I do? You go to the fake identity store?
Wait on this minute. This is this is a little
different from what you used to do where you went
to a guy named Brad in high school that said, yeah,
I can set you up with a fake ID and
he would cut out the plastic around your ID and
put a new in from or take your picture and

(14:04):
then tape.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
It to.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
You know, the the an ID that says your new
name is McLevin or what that fast times? Or is
it that? Is it fast times? Probably? But I was
my mcgloven reference is your two thousands movie reference for
this segment of the radio program that would be Super Bad.

(14:29):
He gets a fake ID and his new name is
mcleven one of the greatest things of all time. So
you go get a fake ID, and just like when
Lucy's looking for a new rake, you need something that
fits your needs. When you're looking for an identity and
you're a twenty six year old Hispanic male, you're looking
for a name and an identity of someone who's approximately

(14:52):
the same age. So now you have you know, like, oh, yeah,
we have all that right here. Let me just entered
into the database. Poop, yep, it turns out we have
this guy's identity just waiting here. We've got credit card numbers,
we've got social Security numbers, we've got a even got
a workplace ID. So yeah, this is an easy one. Boop.

(15:14):
You are now Mexican m Mexican face. As they try
and just find they're looking for Hispanic names, which means
mister Mexican face. It's a real name. I know him,
great dude, really good dude. It means mister Mexican Face.

(15:34):
Now next time he you know, he gets paying from
his credit card, or he goes to take out an
auto loan and suddenly it's like, ah, we've got some
fraudulent activity going on with you, but but I haven't
done anything wrong. It's because his identity was stolen. The
people having their identity stolen are other Latino people. How

(15:57):
are they supposed to feel when they saw all the
parades and protests last week of fellow Latino people and
of course the usual protesters who I often describe as
old white guilt hippies. And the only reason I do
this is because they're old white guilt hippies. Is for

(16:18):
no other reason, and they are sorry they're old. I'm old,
they got white guilt. They're hippies. Nothing wrong with that
that's who they are. They love going out to protest.
Doesn't matter what the cause is, They're going to be
out there protesting. So anyway, back to the Latino people
out there protesting and the other Latino people going wait, wait, wait,

(16:41):
what exactly are you protesting? Because this operation and others
like it from Ice turns out we found the guy
who had stolen my identity. This has made my life
infinitely better. Not to mention the strain on resources that
I'm trying to take advantage in this country legally, like
law enforcement, like healthcare, like jobs, like educational opportunities. The

(17:04):
people who are in the country illegally make all these
things harder for people like us. Plus the fact that
there are so many people in the country illegally makes
people look at us and wonder, I wonder if they're
them illegals, And I don't like being looked at like that.
Do you what exactly are you out here protesting? It's

(17:24):
caused a bit of a riff within the Hispanic community,
which in Omaha has not only this location, but around
southeast Omaha. There are a lot of people of the
Hispanic persuasion who live, work, and do business. There a
lot of businesses there are still closed along twenty fourth Street,

(17:50):
in the vicinity of twenty fourth and l Omaha South
High School. That area with great businesses, fantastic restaurants, some
of the best food I've ever had, some of the
most fun festivals, some of the coldest beer I've ever
had with friends been right along this corridor. Nice people,
good community leaders down there, and they love doing their

(18:14):
festivals that honor their heritage and their people and their identities.
But right now you've got too many of the wrong
community leaders who I think are putting pressure on those
business owners. If you dare say, but I need to
open up my business. You see, this is how we

(18:35):
make money. I need to make money. I have employees
who are counting on me to open up the business
so they can make money. Like, don't you dare, don't
you dare open up that business. We need to stand
in solidarity against the man, Like, well, the man comes
in here and eats on Thursdays. I gotta have my

(18:59):
business open. Plus, we've already heard this was a targeted
operation against a large employer where they were looking for
specific people. If there's someone working illegally with a stolen
identity in my business. I do want to know about it.
So I'm gonna open up my business. I'm gonna tell
the people in the community not to do business there.

(19:20):
I'm gonna tell the people in the community that you're
it's like a union thing, that you're a scab or
whatever this variation of a scab might be. How dare
you cross this line? I wonder how many businesses are
being intimidated in this wonderful part of my hometown not
to open because it'll look like they're not there. For

(19:40):
the people in the community having their identities stolen by
people who shouldn't be in the country, that is incredibly sad.
