Speaker 1 (00:00):
Scott Vordez. This is the film I was talking about,
a little girl in a pumpkin contest. The film is
called Grow. She's sent you in the pumpkin contest wanted
a few tips. This ain't some crew, your own solid
school project. This is all out vegetable warfare. This is
all out vegetable warfare. It doesn't get any bigger than this.

(00:24):
And that is a new movie that's in theaters coming
up on October third, and it's starring, among others, someone
who's also one of my favorite characters on one of
my favorite all time TV shows. He plays Leslie Higgins,
assistant to Rebecca in the TV show Ted Lasso. I
don't want to be part of the Akufu League.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Oh why because he's an emotionally erratic billionaire with the
temperament of one of those kids in Willy Wonka that
gets murdered at the chocolate factory.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
I don't think that's what happens, Leslie.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
I hate to break it to you, Rebecca, but those
children are dead.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Is actor Jeremy Swift who joins us now, Jeremy, good morning,
Hey Jeremy.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Right here is Jeremy Swift.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Oh fantastic perfect time. And hey, Jeremy than how are
you wonderful? We just heard you tell Rebecca that the
kids from the Willie Walker Factory are dead.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Yeah, as a reminder of that a lot.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Yes, I look forward to pestering you with questions about
Ted Lasso. My friend Lucy here on the program has
some doubt and abby talk for you. But first, let's
talk about this movie Grow, coming out in theaters here
in just under two weeks, coming out on Friday, October third.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Oh, it's been pushed back, guys. It's now October seventeenth,
and I'll tell you why because my namesake and possible
family member, Taylor Swift has a new movie, a Stroke album,
coming out, So it's been taken back to the seventeen
now okay, yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
All right, so wait, we're like, are we're gonna release
a movie? Yeah, but Taylor Swift's gonna do a concert
movie that date?

Speaker 2 (02:10):
All right?

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Clear out all the movie? Is that really? Just how
easy that is anymore? We just we're just gonna push
it back, all right.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
I didn't want to cause the family feud, so you know, had.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
To be done right. Taylor Swift's dad, Jeremy Swift, with
us here on eleven ten kfab so it looks like
a really fun movie. Tell me about the plot of
Grow please.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
The story centers around a little girl called Charlie played
by Prio rose Brookwell, who is amazing. She's only like
ten or something. You cannot believe she's so good and
has only been on the planet, you know, since this morning,
and her characters. She's been abandoned by her mom and dad,

(02:55):
and she goes to live with her grumpy Auntie Dine,
a little in the countryside, who's played by Golden Rashuble.
She's kind of the lead in it, and she's uh
is in bridget and she's fabulous in that and and
yeah around he doesn't want you know, she's she runs
the party, doesn't want a kurd on the you know,

(03:18):
to look after, and she doesn't have the propensity to it.
And then we discover that Charlie has this h ability
to commune with with with plants, with growing things. She's
like a kind of a pumpkin whisperer, and uh and

(03:38):
and and they entered this pumpkin competition in the local village,
which of course is fiercely competitive, as these things always are.
And I play a kind of highly pressured, thwarted scientist,
you know e classic crazy white coated scientist in a

(04:00):
lab who's growing a pumpkin and you know, in artificial conditions,
you know. And it's the kind of opposite story to
to Charlie who's playing who's growing uh, you know, good
pumpkin naturally with with you know, with the communing literally
literally communing with nature. And it's it's it's a it's

(04:23):
a story about community and and found family. But gosh,
it's so much fun. There are so many great gags
in it, and you know, it's got you know, you know,
cracking British comedy actors in it, like Nick Nick for us,
who is you know, everybody loves you know, who's a
new handred uh. Incidentally, the kid who's playing my son,

(04:46):
Dominic McLaughlin is the new Harry Potter and he is great.
He's really terrific.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Yeah, it's it's something that it's something that we just
don't get much anymore, and that is a family Halloween show.
I mean, too often it's just gory slasher flicks and
I'm happy to say this is not one of those.
And it's coming out here October seventeenth Gros, starring, among others,
Jeremy Swift. We have just a couple more minutes with
here on eleven ten. Kfab How many times have people

(05:13):
sent you pictures of them dressing up as one of
your characters, whether it's Dot Nabby, whether it's Ted Lasso
and going out for Halloween.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Oh you know, I didn't even know this was the
thing that people dressed as characters from shows until until
I did ted Lasso. And yeah, and I'd see online
that people in particular would dress up as Ted, you know,
which is hilarious. And you see the like five year
olds with mustaches and yeah, yeah, yeah, that is that

(05:47):
is hugely funny. And also people tell me that they've
named him. So many people tell me that they've named
it Doug Higgins their.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Dog, and he's in, he's in. Well, he's one of
the Diamond Dogs. So tell me about everything, Tell me
everything you can tell me about the new season of
Ted Lasso.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
We're about halfway through it at the moment. It's such fun.
The scripts are great and it's not a spoiler to
say that because it's out there that it's about a
women's scene, and of course getting that together is a challenge,

(06:31):
and that's the story really how challenging that is. So
so it's a lot of fun. There's a lot of
new characters, and it's kind of the same but not
the same. But the quality of the show remains very high.
And so it's the comedy, it's the it's golden to do.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
It's the spirit of the show that just makes me
infinitely happy. And I'm guessing that your character, Higgins is
one that just got a bigger and bigger role. Probably
when they pitched it to you, it wasn't like, oh,
you're going to be definitely one of the co stars
of this film and quite an ensemble cast. For you
to stand out and have a bigger and bigger role

(07:12):
throughout the series was probably something that just kind of
evolved naturally. I'm guessing, yeah, well, I think that is.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
What this is what writers do. They zone it in
on on yourself, you know, the actor playing the part,
and they and they know what your your strengths are
and play to those you know, and you know it's
it's it's it's just so just so humbling and enjoyable
to to get the script through and such fun. I mean,

(07:40):
and I just do such such crazy stuff. I can't
believe that it's going on sometimes. But and the thing
about the show that maybe a lot of people don't
know is that it changes so much from the first
script to being on set. It's the nature of Jason

(08:01):
and Brendan's improv background, and particularly on the thirtieson and
now on this one, you know, you'd get a ping
on your phone and you get a new version of
the scene in the middle of the night in the
car going to work in the morning, and sometimes going
from me from makeup to going onto the set, So

(08:25):
you have to be on your toes, you know. And
but it keeps it really fresh.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Well, Jeremy, I just love the show there and it
just kind of has this feeling of life, just like
the evolution of life. It changes. You have to roll
with it, Jeremy. We ask all of our favorite guests
on this program to say a line for us we
feel is the best thing to hear first thing in
the morning. Now the line is good morning, honey, I
made you pancakes for breakfast. But because you're Higgins, I'm

(08:49):
hoping you could say, good morning, Rebecca, I made you
pancakes for breakfast.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
I think I should say good morning, morning Julie because
that's my wife.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
Okay, that'd be fine too.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
Good morning, Julie. I'm made you pancakes for breakfast.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
That's a delightful batch of pancakes. Thank you so much
for all the entertainment. I'll look forward to the new
episodes of ted Lasso and the new movie Grow in
theaters October seventeenth. Jeremy Swift, thanks so much for the time.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
Thank you, guys, thanks a lot.
