Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yo, Bootleg cap podcast Man special guests in here, my guy,
he's back d smoke.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
What's up Big? How you doing?

Speaker 1 (00:06):
How you doing? Man?

Speaker 2 (00:07):
I'm excellent, feeling good.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
What's the what's new? Man? We haven't had an albumn
like three or four years.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
It's been a minute. It has been in a minute,
you know. In those three or four years. Of course,
I've dropped like singles here and there. I've done a
lot of features, you know, but I've been doing I've
done three seasons of Mary Kingstown and so the acting
bag is one that's been.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
So listen, I am a paramount plus guy. Okay, But
for whatever reason, that's the one show I started the
first episode where like dude's brother gets smoked, I think,
like right away it hurts a little bit, but I didn't.
I just I don't know what was going on in
my life. But I just haven't gotten past episode one.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Now.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
I've watched Land, man, I've watched mob Land, I've watched
What's what else?

Speaker 2 (00:54):
You already watched more than me, But I gotta finish.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Yes, you're on three seasons, Americ Kings. Are you in
season one?

Speaker 2 (01:01):
I'm not in season one?

Speaker 3 (01:02):
So season one is the background work you gotta do
to know the storyline and where I come in. But
season two, three, four, I mean and four is about
to come out.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Did you watch season one?

Speaker 2 (01:12):
I did, absolutely.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
Yeah. I got to the point where like, uh, like
there's something with the cop and then like they're trying,
like there's some letter that had to be written and
they were like fucking up some dude in the cell.
I don't know, but I got to that is on
the list.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Because Jeremie renders a g he's in real life too, Like,
so you're on screen with him.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
In season three, I am.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
He's a nice guy.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Yeah, he's a dope dude.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
So yeah, he went to that crazy like snow sax Man.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
He came back from the dead crazy.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
And then so in season three, being on set with
him was an experience because it's like, I'm aware of
all of the things that on the production side they
have to do to accommodate him. He's still recovering, right,
you know, so even filming the show is part of
his recovery, Like I need to get in the swing
of things to stay in mon and my man got
so much metal in him just from reconstructing his body.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Like literally like came back from the dead, like.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Literally, bro and so, but he's a beast man. They
have a whole trailer dedicated to him and fitness and
all this stuff.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
So he's on top of it. You know.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Now my man probably doing one arm push ups and everything,
you know. But but yeah, so doing scenes with him
is like on.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Set, he's super focused.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
I bet like like he's he's down, you know, the
snap of picture. Everybody knows he's a star, but he's
not gonna do the extra. He's not super social. I
ran into him in Vegas at one of the boxes
at one of the fights.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
My man was feeling itself. He was having a good time.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
He was like smoke, you know, and it was it
was a whole different Jeremy when he's not working, you know.
And of course his character Mike McCluskey is not a
lighthearted dude, you know, so when he's in that mold,
it's like, you know, people understand and respect it, you know,
but but he's always like keeping it a hunting, always cool.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Are you are you like enough with acting now?

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Is it something for definitely? Definitely?

Speaker 3 (03:04):
I feel like acting these people who can tell like
our stories authentically. You know if I don't, if I
don't play some of these roles, you're gonna have a
great actor playing our roles. You feel me in the
sense that like, like because my experience coming up in
Inglewood is what it is, And not that I'm the

(03:24):
only hood dude who's acting, but I know I lend
something to the screen that I've seen other people do
well at but not do justice in my opinion, right,
you know so.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
And so? But I just love the process. It's a
whole different muscle to flex.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
You know.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Like then the music, music is like what do I
want to say? Acting is like how do I bring
life to these words and to this fictional character?

Speaker 2 (03:50):
You know so?

Speaker 3 (03:51):
And of course I've done acting since I was like
fifteen years old, you know.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Tasha Smith got me into acting.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
As a kid.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
My first like two three years, I didn't book anything.
Once I started booking, it was like, you know, on
and Pop and I was doing Judging Amy.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
The District, Boston Public CSI.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Yeah, I remember Boston Public.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Boston Public.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
Yeah, if you go out in Boston Surprise right, shot
in La Crazy so liars Crazy.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
So you've been doing a lot, like you said, you're
dropping singles. I know you've switched situations. Obviously you were
with Empire for a while and now you're with Snoop.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Absolutely death Row, Yes, death Row.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
And it's funny because on your show is when he
first was like, man, I wanna I want d Smoke
to be on on death Row, you know, and.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
It's not our first time doing business.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Of course, you guys had a famous on screen moment.
Absolutely he asked you where you were from?

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Absolutely?

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Yeah, And I think that was his first you know,
expression of I see something in this kid.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Everybody we were in LA shooting LA auditions, so it's
not like, hey, where'd you grow up? Everybody from LA,
you know for that round, but it was like, now
where you you know where you're from? Like, what what
is this that produced what I see in you? You
know what I'm saying that I recognize it myself, you
know what I'm saying. So I always took it as

(05:18):
a nod, But of course in the moment, it's like,
you know, it's like a little bit of tension, you
know what I'm saying, just because it's like, oh, we're
gonna do this on TV. Because I'm used to this.
It didn't the cameras disappeared, you know, as far as
I was like that can happen at a gas station
exactly exactly, yeah, yeah, so but ultimately it's a nod,

(05:38):
you know, Like and since he's been super supportive without
asking for anything, Snoop called me like, hey, nephew, I
need to I need you to write me a Spanish verse,
you know, and by damn mess right, you know, he's like,
gave my least on even when I'm at home. You know,
I'm writing his Spanglish raps and stuff. Even when we
did got Spartianga. You know, he pulled up in ing

(06:00):
Would on Queen Street. You know, all the bloods outside.
He's like, come on, nephew. Like he pulled up with
the with the you know, the food truck, paid for
it for the whole day. You know what I'm saying,
Track Kitchen pulled up to Inglewood, fed the hood. It
was just love, you know, and it was him showing
me what per his words, he was like, I'm gonna

(06:20):
show you how to solidify your legacy.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
So it was.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Always like I'm an ally, I'm an asset, and I
don't necessarily want nothing from you. So by the time
it came to this album, it's like, snoop, we gonna
do the whole project or nah, you know, it's like,
let's do it, you know. And we also put out
work Hard Play Hard to single with me and sir.
You know, we put that out back in twenty twenty three. Man, Yeah,

(06:44):
big shut up.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
I just saw he did a show Hollywood Ball.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Yeah he did Packed Up the Hollywood Ball, which is
fucking crazy.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
Would you guys ever do just the joint the project?

Speaker 2 (06:56):
Absolutely?

Speaker 3 (06:57):
The bro I mean, my thing is the question is
you know, it's I think it's gonna be me, sir
and Davion.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
My brother, Davion Ferris, you know, he the one is
like you know, I guess who you know, guess who
started his gangster.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Ship, Like he's the oldest.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
He was always the one that kind of drove us
in the direction of pursuing music, you know, and things
just turned out that Sir got to look from TD
right however it transpires.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
But uh, being as pretty close to the situation as
you are, how cool was it to see, uh, you know,
the last fourteen months or so Kendrick Lamar.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
I mean, well, one, I'm not as close as well.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Your brother signed the TD.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
He signed the TD, and so by affiliation, you know.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
You're a kid. Look, you're a kid.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
For It's not like I'm getting. I'm not getting. I'm
getting what you get.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
You know what I'm saying, I'm going to be cool.
I mean, like, just give me your I mean from
a fans perspective.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
From okay, from a fans perspective, I know. I mean
I thought you were saying, what's the inside school.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
No, it just means like it just had to be cool,
like damn, like this is.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
I mean, it's just.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
It's inspiring from a from a music standpoint, right, I'm
not tripping off the beef.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
I let growing man handle the ship how they want
to do that.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
But the fact that that the West is having a moment,
you know, because it's never It's not like we stopped
being us.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
We didn't stop making great music.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
We didn't stop you know, being dope and having artists
that pushed the line and choose to be different. It's
just that depending on the times, there are different seasons
in music. You know, when the South had it, you know,
and it was a little Little John and the Yin
Yang Twins. You couldn't tell nobody nothing, you know what
I'm saying when t Payne had it.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
You you know.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
And so it's dope to be to live in a
moment where it's like, oh, West West, It's our time again.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
You know.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
It was funny because I've done the Hollywood Bowl twice
in the past couple of years, and the night that
Kendrick did to pop out in Inglewood, I was doing
the Hollywood Bowl. So from my phone, I'm watching this
Kendrick say what's up Inglewood, and I'm like, oh, It's
like bittersweet. I'm proud, but I'm like having the biggest

(09:14):
show of my life.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
You know. That night in particular, I was opening for
Ta Pain.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
And then you know, another night I did, uh, I
was rocked with Derek Hodge at a jazz festival.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
You know. So, but but that was an interesting.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Yeah, there was like a Snoop was saying that like
him and DJ Quick were like on a They're in
Canada the night of the pop out, and they were
just like both just like had fomo, like, bro, is
that right Canada?

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Right?

Speaker 1 (09:43):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (09:44):
I was across right, across town trying to figure out
and you know, I feel like he announced it so
quick and packed it out instantly.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
But it was like I just I was like, man,
what time is it?

Speaker 3 (09:57):
I was still trying to when I heard it was
about that, I was like, he win's my set time?
Like it's like, bro, you late. You know what I'm saying,
which is where you want to be any other day?
You don't want to be first up?

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Yeah? Sure, Hey, we gott to stop the interview to
tell you about our good folks, odd Socks. Man. Now,
these are the odd socks basics, ladies and gentlemen. Now,
when I tell you this is a product that every
single day I'm alive for the last five six years
I have used are these odd socks basics? Now, what
odd Socks is doing is they're kind of reinventing the

(10:29):
sock game, if we're being honest, and the underwear game.
You know a lot of times you'll hit Walmart, you'll
hit Target, you'll get some socks, you get some draws.
They're affordable, they end up with holes in them. They
don't really feel great. Not odd socks, ladies and gentlemen,
These odd Socks basics are the most comfortable socks I've
ever had on my feet. Not only that, but you're
super affordable fourteen ninety nine for a six pack. That's it,

(10:54):
odd socks dot Com. And if you don't believe me,
sock check. Oh wait, that's the ex is on the
other side. There we go. Ah, you see that. Sorry
you had to see those white legs. But it's so
dope that you know, I get to push a product
that I use and that I love, so odd socks

(11:15):
they got the six pack of socks for fourteen ninety
nine at odd socks dot com. The basics, this is
the future of socks, the future of underwear comfort and affordability.
I'm talking about affordability without jeopardizing the quality because they
are the most comfortable socks you ever put on your feet.
Ladies and gents and the Etcetera's got to show love
to the ETCeteras we like all the stripes on the flag.

(11:38):
There are odd socks dot com. Man, much love to
my brothers over there. Make sure you get some right now,
odd socks dot com. Let's get back to the interview,
because I feel like death rows having a super dope moment.
Jane's dope. Obviously October is going crazy. Uh you know,
I feel like they're this this new Death Rows is high.
I mean we had a dog Penalty, we had the

(12:00):
east side of this project. The last Snoop album he
just kind of just dropped on us was crazy.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Yeah, that's crazy, corrupt, that's something crazy.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
But I'm just curious, like for you, like, what was
it about outside of it just being Snoop, you know,
someone who supported you throughout your career, of someone's party story,
but what was it about, like what's going on with
death Row that just like was like, yo, this makes sense.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
A big part of it is that one Death Row
is musical, you know. Today is what's brilliant about how
Snoop is leading the ship in a sense is that
they're not trying.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
To recreate the old Death Row right. You know what
I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
The artists from a different era that are still creating
that are still dope, They're still they're there, they're still
putting out music. However, the younger artists, you know what
I'm saying, the October London's the Jans, you know, you know,
they're making music like with live instrumentation, with soul, with
all that stuff. So I'm kind of a bridge between

(13:01):
that and rap and new rap, you know, or or
mid age, you know what I'm saying, Like I'm not
I'm not the youngsters, but you know, I'm seasoned, but
I'm still you know, active, you know so, And also
I think it's me understanding what I contribute to it.
It's not so much like what are y'all doing that
I could benefit from. It's like the relationship is is important.

(13:25):
It happening organically, like some of my album was created there.
I have you know, Jane on the album. You know
what I'm saying. Snoop is on the album. So by
the time the conversations happened, it's like, look, what's what's
the other stuff that we need to discuss? Like the
fit is already there, we don't it's a no brainer.
You know, what are what is our agreement so that

(13:45):
we could move forward with it? And it's the biggest
you know, it's love because you know, my agreement with
Snoop is not too different from my agreement with you know, Empire,
and that I get to after a certain amount of time,
you know, keep my ownership and all things.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
It's a partnership.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
Yeah, you know, and and that's why I can forever,
you know, look at my time with Empire and nod
to them, like I respect those guys and it's much
love because one day they rolled for me, like in
so many ways. We went overseas together, Grammy nominated all
the you know, all the beautiful stuff, and that part

(14:25):
of my career was fueled by you know, their support.
So that's the kind of relationships I want to keep
building where it's like I keep ownership and we can build,
you know, and learn from east that we take.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
Are you because you've I feel like the last five
or six years you've you've I mean, there's a few
other really dope artists who put dope visuals together, but
I feel like your top tier in that combo when
it comes to just amazing visuals. Now that you're acting
and ship do you is your is you were like
appetite for like how crazier videos got to be? Just

(15:01):
be like is it that much more crazy because you're
all like these movie sets.

Speaker 3 (15:05):
And shit, it's yes and no, Like my thing is now,
you know, you know, they say like if you want
to do something well and fast, it's not going to
be cheap. If you want to do if you want
to make it cheap and it done well, it's going
to take a long amount of time. Right, So during
that season, during that season, rhythm and flow hit.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Yep, shit was happening fast.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
We didn't know we were up against a beginning pandemic,
you know what I'm saying. But it was like the
speed at which we had to move meant that we
spent a lot of money on those visuals, you know.
So now it's like, how do we wn How do
I get my hands and feet a little more dirty
in the production of these videos so that I can
achieve that quality and save.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Yeah, you know, save some bread.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
So so the short answer is, yes, we want to
continue making high quality videos, but it's how you know,
if we're gonna spend the type of money we spent
back then, it's gonna be like, you know, we better
be coming out with a film.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
Some of the videos, some of the videos you are dropping.
I was like, damn, this can't be. This can't be
less than like thirty grand twenty, like you were putting
bro Hell, no, what was the one you had like
on the old school bus and you had like the sixties.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
Cel you're talking about it. Oh, yeah, that that shit
was tight.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
That was a honey Jack, Yes, honey, it was crazy.
Honeyjack is one of my favorite It's movies. They're movies,
you know, and that's by a child, the director named Child.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
She's incredible.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
You linked up with Larrussell. What is it like? L Russell?
I feel like it's doing a lot of good work
to kind of just change. I feel like the way
people think about our approach to be an independent artistry,
you know, content just a concerts, a lot. She's just
doing a lot. Like what was it like? Connecting with him?

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Being around l Russell is super inspiring, you know what
I'm saying. L Russell has a fresh energy, a youthful
spirit and h but he's a dog in the sense
that you know, he's working and he's a Bouti's movement
and he's honest, you know what I'm saying, Like in
the moment, like if he don't fuck with it, he
you know what I'm saying, Like, Hey, let's show up,
let's get it done because we on a time crunch,

(17:16):
you know what I'm saying. So, but there's respect, like
we he pulled up to my house and recorded that verse.
You know, I engineered that myself, you know, so brought
his whole team to the house. You know. Then we
did another song and Mike the you know, Mike the
piano in my house, like so like his his movement

(17:37):
is something that I admire as much as his art.
You know what I'm saying, he could be himself, but
he's he's taking all the right risks and doing stuff
and breaking rules, you know, the things that people.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
Feel like they got to do.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
He's like, no drop dropping value the rollout, don't got
to be crazy. You know what I'm saying, keep dropping
And the irony is that what got me on rich
them and flowing all these big moments is that I
had that same mentality, like every week y'all getting something new,
a visual and a new song.

Speaker 2 (18:06):
And you know what I'm saying, so big salute to him.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
You know what I'm saying Now, I don't as where
I am now, I don't share the same model.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
My business model is not the same.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
And that yeah, with anything, not every shoe fits the
same you know for everybody.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
Yeah, for sure, you know, and you know I still
I'm close enough to certain TD to learn from. Their
model is extremely different too.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
It's like you're kind of like the extreme other side
of the spectrum exclusivity mystique.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
You know what I'm saying, and I believe in it.

Speaker 3 (18:35):
The beauty of that is you get these you get
time off, you know what I'm saying, And of course
you're working during the time off, but it's time.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
Out of the out of this sie. Yes, yes, you
know so. And that's what I've been doing on this.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
Like what's crazy is it hasn't been that I haven't
had enough music to put out an album any one year.
I got five six albums worth of material. But it's
what the cycle that you have to get in to
put it out is a whole different muscle, you know
what I'm saying. Whether it's like all right, let's shoot
enough visuals, let's get enough content collected, let's whatever, or

(19:11):
fuck it, let's just drop it forward the fans, right,
the people that's watching that closely, y'all gonna get this
disch just for y'all.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
You already know. Man. Want to give a shout out
to slap Woods for presenting the podcast only papers I
smoke Man, only leafs that we let fly around here
on the Blue Leg Cap podcast. We just did a
crazy pool party with them too. That was insane out
here in La. So shout out to slap Woods when
I tell you, man quality. They smoke so good. And
they're called slap Woods because they slap I know that's

(19:39):
like their you know, their tagline, but it's also the truth,
all right. So look, go follow them at slap Woods.
Make sure you hit their website. And if you're at
your local smoke shop, if you're the local store and
you need some papers, get you some slap Woods. And
you know, I think pretty soon I want to do
we are going to do this pretty soon. I want

(19:59):
to do it g way with some Slapwood stuff. So
be on the lookout for that. We'll be announcing it
on the podcast. We're gonna be sending out obviously, you
got to be of age sending out a good box
of these goodies. Oh the sweeping and and cigar wraps
are fire. Slap Woods, man, make sure you go show
them some up slap Woods dot com, follow them on
Instagram at slap Woods. Let's get back to the podcast.
Do you feel like nowadays it's like fans, I feel

(20:24):
like they have I mean, obviously it's they've had a
short attention span for a long time. But in terms
of like when you kind of go away for a while,
it feels like fans have a tendency to kind of
move on, oh for sure, and like find the new
for sure and be like is that something that you're
conscientious of? And and have you noticed that? Like fans

(20:45):
will like hit you like, yo, when when are we
getting There's been a minute.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
What I noticed is that it took it took getting
well into the rollout for people to all the way
catch on. You got core fans, and you got not
as core, then you got the waste, the you know,
by the wayside. Once you know what I'm saying, And
I don't fault nobody for being whatever. I just want
to you know know who's who. But but yeah, when

(21:12):
I first dropped a single, they was like, oh shit,
this is dope, you know, And you can almost sense
that some people are like, Okay, he doing it, he
doing something again. Then then you drop another one, they're
like oh shit, a third one, then the freestyle.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
Then finally they're like, oh it's happening.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
Like but it's like it's like y'all will commend it
at the first move, but y'all won't really buy in until.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
What was the first record, No Passes, No Passes.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
Yeah, so they're like, Okay, this is dope. Right, it's
like salute good stuff, you know what else. Right Whereas
when you know, when I was coming up, it's like
I could obsess, you know, because one my uh, my
taste wasn't inundated with social media stimulation and all this stuff.
It was like music meant a lot more to us
coming up. Then I think it means to people now,

(21:57):
you know, and so so now until they see that
it's a movement like Larussell, until they see that it's
a part of a bigger thing, you know, they don't
fully buy into it.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
And that's just a reality that.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
Yeah, it's like some weird mental shit. It's almost like, uh,
you know, I had saw that. I don't know, I
don't think they're doing it anymore. But like Spotify was
like flirting with like removing the play counts on people's profiles,
which because I feel like fans will like, you could
send somebody some shit and if they go to the
person's Spotify profile just mentally, if it doesn't look like

(22:32):
the artist is lit and you hadn't heard of them already.
They're they're just be like, I'm.

Speaker 3 (22:36):
Good, right, because it doesn't in their mind, it doesn't
give them social currency.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
Like they feel like they're more valuable.

Speaker 1 (22:43):
Yeah, you know, you used to be able to like, Yo,
I'm going to fucking two dope boys and I find
some random fucking artists that you know, these fools posted or.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
But it's two types of people though. It's two types
of people.

Speaker 3 (22:53):
It's people that listen because it's popular, so that they're
not they're not missing out, you know, due to this
phone you know, sensitivity. And then it's people who are
like completely subscribe to a different way viewing it, that
are still looking for the song that's theirs, Like, Okay,
even if you're a popular artist, let me find number
eleven on the album, and.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
It's not the single that's mine.

Speaker 3 (23:17):
And not only is that mine is mine because of
this one line in verse three that I'm gonna know
better than anybody else, you know, so, and that's a
lot of times as artists, we got to remember to
speak to those people, you know what I'm saying. So
for that reason, my song with Jane Hancock is one
of my favorite songs, you know, Count Your Blessings. It's
like that's gonna be somebody's favorite for different reasons than

(23:40):
a No Passes.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
Or any single that I might have.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
What is do you have a date for the album yet?
August twenty sixth, coming soon right now?

Speaker 2 (23:50):
Real song? It is upon us?

Speaker 1 (23:53):
It is upon us? What is the latest with the
Broadway Gym? We went and shot a little thing over there,
was hanging out over there, and.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
So now we've done a soft opening where we have
Saturday mornings at ten am Broadway Boxing Youth Academy where
we have the fighting community. And it's not just youngsters,
just you know, adults, some pro boxers. But Saturday from
ten to one we're in there training fighting. I being
there tomorrow, people spar you know what I'm saying. It's

(24:24):
still blood on the mat, you know, so.

Speaker 1 (24:26):
You're still in there. You're still throwing hands.

Speaker 3 (24:27):
I throw currently yes on a week or twice a week.
It's not like it's not like six days a week
like I used to, right, you know.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
But it's like also like really good cardio, right, excellent
car drenched trench ya, I mean, leave have you have
you uh. You know it's funny because that there was
a few times like you and I would talk and
I would be like, yeah, there's a celebrity who said
they got hands, and you would always tell me I
hate tell them.

Speaker 2 (24:49):
None of them. They don't want it. They don't want it.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
I feel like they might act like they want it
until they do a little bit of research and they're like.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
They just going Their best bet is to try to
wait bully me, right they it gotta be a two
hundred pound to be like all fight smoke like.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
You know, I ain't know. I ain't a huge dude.

Speaker 3 (25:06):
I know what I'm doing, right, you know, but my
thing is all right, if you're gonna hop in there
with me, you gotta do at least three rounds. So
if you had two hundred pound or that's trying to.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
I'm a I'm a I'm a gas you out.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
I'm a weather the storm. That's I'm a weather the storm.
And it's some weathering to be done. You know.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
You jump in there. These dudes be throwing, and that's
the thing. Fighting is still fighting. It's still dangerous. There's
no skill level too amateur.

Speaker 1 (25:32):
Anybody is open to catching, like just getting.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
Caught, getting caught, you know. So, but my foot work,
I trust my foot work.

Speaker 1 (25:41):
You and your brother shot the music video for your
song in Costa Rica. Yes, how did you guys do
any shrooms out there?

Speaker 3 (25:47):
No, that's a very specific question. No, we didn't do
shrooms out there. No, we didn't do.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
Because I know they got the Ayahuasca retreats in Costa Rica.

Speaker 3 (25:55):
I heard it a vibe the homie. The homie is
with that, Mahmie ron is is about that.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
But no, they.

Speaker 1 (26:01):
Got whole resorts out there. You go to Costa Rica
and they just ay Yowaska, they just get you, fucking
they you know, they put you on a spaceship and
send you to God.

Speaker 2 (26:09):
You know what I mean, that's what they said. Ayahuasca
is you deal with all all of the spirits. I'm cool, But.

Speaker 3 (26:17):
You know we have me and Sir have land out
there that were you know, you got the blueprints. Yes,
and so it was part of that, you know. And
then Sergio who shot all the Nipsey stuff, he's the
one who flew out there with us him Jesus is
DP and and.

Speaker 2 (26:34):
Yeah, so it was it was a twofold trip.

Speaker 3 (26:37):
Check on the land, follow up on some of the
the plans and all that stuff, and then shoot the video.
But but nah, we didn't do the We didn't do
the shrooms out there.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
Sir smoked, you know, and smoked. Don't smoke, but you know,
we had a good time.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
But you guys just like like I've always wanted to
go out there. I got I heard it's amazing, but
I heard you have to kind of go out there
for like a pretty nice chunk of time. Wise, you
won't see everything or it's almost impossible to see everything
in one trip.

Speaker 3 (27:03):
If you could do, if you could do twelve days,
because it's like two sides. Yeah, yeah, for sure. The
Caribbean side is a whole different vibe. Then there's there's
a La Forna.

Speaker 2 (27:15):
You know.

Speaker 3 (27:16):
La Forna is where Volcannla is at. You know, so
you got natural springs on that volcano. You got to
experience that that you know, raining a lot and ship
rains it. The waterfall at volcano is crazy, you know.
And so you got to see that middle park. Then
you got the Pacific side. You got the uh Manuel Antonio,

(27:39):
which is an incredible zone. Monkeys might run up on
you and just be like ask you for food.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
You know what I'm saying, Like.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
That's what I want to go out there and see
some fucking animals, sloths, sloths, monkeys.

Speaker 3 (27:50):
I almost rode over a sloth on a motorcycle. It
was nighttime. I thought it wouldlown. I thought it was
it had sent me. I thought it was a hoodie
or something. I said, well, let me not go over
this piece of clothes. I went around it.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
I was like, wait, exactly, it's lots.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
Are funny, bro, Like I think we we had to
go back and move them because it's like brown the street. Yeah, yeah,
we moved them, and I swear fole little bro look
back and thanked us in slow motion.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
He was like.

Speaker 1 (28:20):
Good looking and you like.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
But I was like, Bro, it's yes. It's a lot
of wildlife out there. The birds that you'll see flyover
and crazy crazy bats. I've seen a white bat one time.

Speaker 1 (28:32):
My boys said, when you go out there, you have
to be careful with the like when you go and eat,
because they'll like they'll try to like double charge you sometimes.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
Man.

Speaker 3 (28:42):
The food is so affordable out there, Like even if
they did, it's like like if you go, if you
know where to go to like the so that the
little like hole in the wall family spots. You're getting
to play the food for like the equivalent of seven dollars.
And I'm talking about a hefty play of food. But
even if you eat, you know I wanted a more
fancy rest is still.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
Hey, we gotta wrap up this interview another one presented
by Hardan Baby you already know what it is. Shout

Go give them a follow. It's nothing but that good gas.
Check them out at your local dispensary. Brokencannabis dot Com

(29:46):
salute to them. Let's get back to the interview. What's
the name of the album?

Speaker 2 (29:50):
Wake Upsuper?

Speaker 1 (29:51):
Okay, wake Up Souper? Explain?

Speaker 3 (29:55):
Wake Upsuper is is? How do I put this but
gangsters and lovers. It's an awakening, you know what I'm saying.
Like it's inglewood. It's got a lot of heart and soul,
and it's me taking people on my journey through you know,

(30:16):
one stepping back outside and focusing on music in a
way that starts to feel like myself again. And then
it's also sharing the stories. You know, last year I
lost my mom and so the family, all of our family,
Sir and Daveon were on tour when that happened, and
so we all went through that. So taking people through
what we experienced, but you know, showing them the light

(30:38):
on the other side. Like the music on this album
is just like unmatched. Like I produced half of the project.
You know, this is on Black Habits. I did some
of my favorite stuff, but just a couple of them.
I did Black Habits too, and I did I did
Closer to God, I think those are the ones I did.

(30:58):
And then on on War On Wonders, I might have
done some additional production like instrumental, you know, instruments and
all that stuff. But but this one is one that
I intentionally said, like because I started off producing. I've
been producing since I was ten years old. Rap is
something like probably sixteen seventeen. I started doing more in

(31:18):
my twenties. I got real serious about it, So I'm
technically a late bloomer. Like at Inglewood High, it was
more me making beats and getting in the boxing gloves,
you know what I'm saying, sir. Before he started singing,
it was basketball, you know. Davion was the one that
started just music, you know, all together.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
So for you, you know, did you were you Were
you able to dedicate anything to your mom on this album,
like a specific rib.

Speaker 2 (31:43):
Absolutely absolutely so.

Speaker 3 (31:44):
I have a song called good Morning that's dedicated to her.
It's so much her voices on a song with me
and Bja the Chicago Kick called Proud of You. You know,
I got messages from her that that I saved. And
so it's probably three that are like that deal with
that very situation. One from the standpoint one I wrote
while she was in the hospital, while we were still

(32:06):
hopeful that she.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
Got better, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
And then good Morning was like talking to her from
the other side, you know. And then proud of You
was like, you know, the full circle moment of you know,
hearing I got a voice message from her for that
song before the accident all together, like letting you know
I'm proud of you, know what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
So, yeah, did.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
You listen to the intro to the Clips album?

Speaker 2 (32:34):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (32:34):
I did.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
I got to go back and listen to it if
you better.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
The song is like each each like maliceon Push, each
do a verse about they lost both their parents in
the same time. So it's like they each like one
of them is doing a verse about their their mom
and the other ones universe about their dad.

Speaker 3 (32:52):
It's crazy, yeah, and it's wild because you don't before
something like this happens. You don't realize it's people everywhere
who walk around with this carrying it for sure. It
never goes away, you know what I'm saying. You know,
different people have different relationships with their parents. I was
fortunate enough to be really close with my mom, right
you know, but it you know. I talked to Snoop,

(33:14):
you know Snoop and half there. They was like, bro,
welcome to the club, Like it's the club nobody wants
to join. But you realize that it's a lot of
people in it, you know, because the only alternative is
to go before your parents, which is not common, and
which is exactly because it's not natural. It's there's a

(33:35):
part of it that's natural to bury a parent.

Speaker 1 (33:37):
Yet to do a record on his last album where
he's talking about like the the non Porter Joint, we're
talking about losing like his best friend, and it was
I was like, damn, bro, like deep record. What has been?
Like you said earlier, Snoop had kind of told you
this is kind of how you protect your legacy. This
is like what are what is some of the game

(33:58):
that he's given you? Since you guys have kind of
made things official and been working closely.

Speaker 3 (34:02):
I mean, it's always been through demonstration. It's never been
sit down like here are the ten rules, rule one
always do.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
It was it wasn't that kind of thing.

Speaker 1 (34:12):
It was.

Speaker 3 (34:13):
It was more like I'm gonna I'm gonna show you
what it looks like and and what he's demonstrated is
being true, you know what I'm saying, regardless of.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
Where you at.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
And the biggest takeaway from from working with Snoop is
that everybody around him understands the level of demand that
he's under as one of the most famous rappers ever,
famous people, the most famous people ever.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
He is the most famous rapper ever. That's a fact,
got you right?

Speaker 2 (34:40):
Worldwide?

Speaker 1 (34:40):
But famous person he's he's top five. Yeah, yeah, Yeah,
it's it's crazy.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
Snoop Dogg.

Speaker 3 (34:45):
You can go anywhere in the world, the farthest corner
and tribe and it's you know, but he has a
way of being more present than some of some people
that you might know that I ain't, that don't do
nothing with their life.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
You know what I'm saying. If he's in a room
with you.

Speaker 3 (35:02):
He's as curious about you, as present with you as
anybody can be. And it just shows you that he's
still learning, he's still applying himself, he's still showing up,
you know. And if he could do it with that
level of demand that he's under, then we an't got
no excuse.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
Yeah nobody, yeah. And if he can do it without
being a deck period.

Speaker 3 (35:21):
And he's giving you know what I'm saying, like of himself,
and and you know, he got a vision and he's
a hundred percent behind that, but you know he could
also be cut through, you know.

Speaker 2 (35:33):
And that's what I've learned about some a.

Speaker 3 (35:35):
Lot of people I respect and cut through for the
right reasons.

Speaker 1 (35:38):
Yeah, not to be cruel, but sometimes, you got everyone
has to have boundaries, Everyone has to.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
Have exactly exactly you know what I'm saying. And I've
seen him go into different molds. You know what I'm saying.
When it's when it's Snoop Dogg, mold, you know, not
not unc, not Uncle Snoop when it's like dog and
so you know it's for me, it's like, all right,
cool because I know that about myself, you.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
Know, right, So not for sure, man. So the album's
coming soon. You see. You got bj the Chicago Kid
on the record. Absolutely, who else?

Speaker 2 (36:06):
Jane Jane Hancock. I got Lucky Day. I got Miles Minnick.

Speaker 1 (36:10):
Oh, Miles is dope.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
Yeah, Miles is super dope. Of course. I got the Russell.
I got the Homie nine nine Okay, he's dope. Yes,
I got.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
Snoop Dogg on the production. I got you know, myself.
I did like five of them. I got you know,
Laurentz from fifteen hundred damn O you know Turbo. I
got Terrace Martin on the intro, my brother daveon singing backgrounds.

Speaker 2 (36:36):
You know. So it's I'm trying to make sure I
miss nobody.

Speaker 1 (36:40):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (36:40):
I got PJ.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
Morton, Tiffany Gucht on the out So it's a lot
of Most of the features are voices, you know.

Speaker 2 (36:46):
What I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (36:47):
It's not a grip of rappers, right, but I do
have the ones that matter are on there.

Speaker 2 (36:53):
You know.

Speaker 1 (36:53):
I love it. Man, Well look coming soon. August twenty six.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
Twenty six.

Speaker 1 (36:57):
Yes, is that on a Friday.

Speaker 2 (36:59):
That's on a Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (37:00):
It's on a Tuesday. That's that's what I say. It
feels like a Tuesday if I'm like in my head,
I'm like thinking of the month Tuesday, like it like
it was back in the day.

Speaker 2 (37:07):
You know what I'm saying, what we're doing.

Speaker 1 (37:09):
I wish we'd get back to Tuesdays. Let's do it
and then you can uh.

Speaker 2 (37:12):
By the weekend. You don't live with the music a
little bit.

Speaker 1 (37:15):
People like to That's the thing. People don't be on
their phone listening to Ship on the weekend. That's why
I understand why they went to Friday. It's smarter to
do Tuesday. Let's start that anyway. Look, I appreciate you
Smoke Go Sport the album. I'm sure the pre orders
are up and all that. Good Ship, my guy.

Speaker 2 (37:32):
Good to see, yes, sir,
