(00:04):
Astros fans cheers, Fucky, Lucky, Welcome to the Crawford Buck Cast.
Here's Astros proud lead board for youby Crawford Bach from Carbach Brewey. You're
getting da bear. Oh my godness. The Crawford Bucks Cast starts now here

(00:29):
we go. Here's Chris Gordy andRoss via Real. Alburo's arriving back at
Chicago earlier today. Oh one,and jord On Frank's a pretty deep to
right center field back on it asfam and he will just watch that one
go fifteen rows into the seats andright center for you'red On Albarez his fifteenth
home run of the year. Whatnothing, Astros. It is a live

(00:54):
edition of the Crawford Box Cast, presented by Carbrock Brew and Chris Gordy along
with Ross Vireel. Coming to youfrom the place itself. Carbock browing over
here and we're having a fun time. Man. Watch the Astra end of
the Astros game here, a victory, a series win as well we needed
two nights ago. Everybody was downon their luck and worst Astros lost all

(01:17):
year, and you know, justeverybody filmed down it stretch to ten games
back of the Seattle maritters and loand behold ross what a difference two days
makes the Astros win the next two. Seattle loses their next two, and
this thing's back to eight games. So it's what I always tell everybody.
Don't over yet. It is along season. I understand they haven't played

(01:38):
great. There's still some five hundred. There's a lot of bad things going
on a lot. But when whenthe hyperbole enters and we're all jumping off
the bridge and going, oh,it's over, people. I mean,
I can't tell how many phone callswe continue to take with people go on,
it was a great run. Imean, dude, the run's not
over. Let's see what happens atthe end of the year. I know,
I'm just saying. I'm just saying, don't write them off until they're

(02:01):
completely the But you know, it'slike the horror movie the dead Body.
We got him. The bad guy'sdead. No he's not. Wait,
he might not be. And theAstros get a win today, five to
three. Albeit the had to rally, they had to rally, yes,
but they got it done today.I mean they started off zero for seven
with runners in scoring position, andthen you had the three run fifth from

(02:23):
the Chicago White Sox. It wasn'tfeeling great for whatever reason. Chris Flexen,
who has given the I mean, the Astros have hit him before,
but he's also had some good startsagainst the Astros before. But I mean
on nights before where Garrett Coche Crochetand what was the other guy's name,
Jake Cannon or whatever, Cannon,j Jonathan Cannon, he was incredible,

(02:46):
and then he was really good, and then Garrett Crochet is really good.
Luckily he got to him, andthen Flexen was doing his thing for the
most part, thankfully, a comedyof errors from the White Sox, and
you got to win. You're thirtyfive and forty, your five games below
five hundred. Yeah, things arelooking a little bit better for you in
the American League West. You're onlyeight games back, so that's good.

(03:07):
But you have to keep it up. You do have a very very tough
series coming up against the Baltimore Orioles. Yes, and you're starting a guy
who has never faced triple A battersand he's not even gonna go like to
a soft landing spot inst the WhiteSox or something. He's going up against
the Orioles who have seventeen runs againstthe New York Yankees. We'll see how

(03:28):
it goes. Yeah, we'll getto that along the way. Of course,
you're talking about Jake Bloss getting calledup. We will discuss that.
But I do want to still bethe first person to tweet out like a
Bloss if he has a one twothree first inning. Yeah, I mean,
that's that writes itself. I washaving some fun because there was an
article written today on you know, prospects that should get the call up from
different teams. Do you know thatthe Washington Nationals have a pitching prospect named

(03:52):
Brad Lord. I was like,oh man, the headlines right themselves.
Yeah, Holy Lord, you knowthe Lord's you know, I mean,
yeah, it's and the writing itall rights itself. But yeah, Bloss
could could certainly, uh, youcan certainly do some things with that.
But Spencer Ragedtty. Look man, what's so weird is sometimes with pitchers,

(04:14):
things are going well until they're not. Spencer Orghedtty was cruising. He was
through four scoreless, and then thewheels kind of come off in the fifth.
It starts with the Maldonado easy fiveball that Altwove thinks he has and
then the wind just kind of getsit and he drops it in his glove
and then it just falls out andthen it you know, and then ends
up. Next guy gets on andthen run scores, and you know,

(04:35):
it just kind of started unravel. And credit to Joe spot I thought,
he, you know, you you'dlove to see Arraghetty battle through there and
get you know, get through thefive innings. But you had Taylor Scott.
They go to him, he giveshim sack fly and then he gets
the last two outs. But it'sstill it's three to one and it's five
innings and you're like, crap,we're gonna have to score some runs here,

(04:57):
and they can't. At that pointRuss they they were over seven with
runners in scoring position. They didnothing. It was like, oh god,
what are we gonna do here? And then long and behold they sent
ten hitters to the plate and afour run seventh inning and they get the
lead back and they didn't look back. So that was that was good to
see. Yeah, that was goodto see the good thing was you got
three hits from Alex Bregman. JordonAlvarez comes back hits a homer that you

(05:20):
heard the highlight there that we kindof came back with missing the last two
days with his family matter issue, and I don't know what it was.
They didn't say it publicly. That'sokay, sounds like everything's all right.
That's what Joe Spott has said inthe pregame. So hopefully everything okay with
Yordon Alvarez getting his family taken careof. So he gets three hits,
the three hits today including the homer. That's what you need. You need

(05:44):
Jordon Alvarez doing his thing. Youneed Alex Bregman doing everything, especially as
Kyle Tucker continues to be out andthen I mean, quite frankly, a
mishmash after your one two three,I mean, yeah, on your Diaz
has been good, so I won'tsay that, but when John Singleton up
and down, Jake Myers up anddown, Jim Paint unfortunately continues to struggle.
He went oh for four, Ilike, do Bonnie's on well,
like a thirteen game hitting streak, but he's mostly just slapping singles through all

(06:08):
of that. And then you combineChas McCormick and Trey Cabbage one for four,
so you need the heavy hitters, especially while Kyle Tucker remains out,
and it was great to see yordOn Alvarez do his thing today and come
back and not miss a beat.Yeah, it's it was. You just
had to find a way to wintoday. I mean you needed a rally

(06:28):
to do so. Uh and theAstros they win for just the fourth time
in thirty three games the season rosswhen trailing after six innings. Is that
right? Wow? That's yeah,It's it's funny because you look at all
these types of statistics from this yearas far as like things they have it
done. Like you said, theyhaven't won I think they they haven't won

(06:51):
a game when trailing after the eighthor something like that. They haven't won
a game you said, only theirfourth time trailing after what the sixth?
Yeah, okay, so that's beenhorrible all year long. They haven't swept
a three game series all year long. And yeah, we have to continue
to believe this team that they've shownus that they can get to the ALCS

(07:13):
seven straight years and how great theyare and all that type of stuff.
But undercracking under the pressure at somepoint is going to happen. With the
fact that they're thirty five and fortynow, the Seattle Mariners are. Yeah,
lost a couple of games in thelast couple of days, but you
got a tough series coming up,and then all the injuries continuing to rack
up. Thankfully, Spencer Arraghetty, who wasn't very good today, didn't cost

(07:33):
you. But you've still gotten somegood performances out of Hudder Brown and you
need that to continue with some otherspots in the rotation because with Justin Verlander
on that IL, the forty oneyear old pitcher who is on his second
IL snint this year, you gottahold this thing together somehow with this starting
pitching and hope against hope that JakeBloss can be good tomorrow for not tomorrow,

(07:58):
yeah tomorrow for the Houston Astros againstthe Baltimore Orioles. Uh seven one
three to five seven ninety is thenumber of fe you guys want to get
in. Seven one three two fiveseven ninety. Like we said, it
is a live edition with the CrawfordBox Cast coming to you from carbok burning
good, good crowd in the house. A lot of folks here either knocking
off work or you know whatever, coming to grab a happy hour and enjoyce.
Bruce. But uh more importantly,Astros win today. They are are

(08:22):
they thirty five and forty thirty fortyfive? Good? Five games? Five
games? Yes, it's gonna betough to close that cap this week.
Seattle Mariners are eleven games above fivehundred. Yeah, but they just lost
two in a row. So takethat Seattle. Yeah, and the Astros.
By the way, you know,Taylor, they're playing the Marlins this

(08:43):
weekend. I thought this was reallybig. And I know it's the White
Sox. I know they stick, but the Estras Bulltenants has had its issues
throughout this season. Taylor Scott, after he gives up that sack fly to
the first batter he faces, theWhite Sox don't score another run. Taylor
Scott pitches a scoreless six. BridaBrey comes in, pitches a score seven.
Brian Presley comes in pitches a scorelessef. That's now consecutive scoreless outings

(09:05):
for Ryan Presley. That's a consecutivescore of the downings for all three of
those guys. Talking with Brian mctaggerbefore the game, how many times have
you had this year in a closegame A brave you Presley hater all come
in and not give up runs? It's happened back to back games now,
and I can't tell you you canprobably count on one hand. I could
go through this through the logs andguess that it might not have happened once

(09:26):
all season, just because of thescenario where it comes up where they're all
still in a safe situation, butback to back games it happens and they
and they hold. The only thingthat bugs me is Presley can't get just
a clean inning, like I think. It's I get think there are a
couple outings ago he had a one, two three, I mean even today,
well it's a it's a scoreless inning, but it's he gives up a
hint. It's just like he can't. He can't like he prescely used to

(09:50):
have hitless innings where you come inone just a walk today, I'm sorry,
yesterday, sorry, walk was yesterday, a couple and then yes said
today in a strikeout I think wasa double against Detroit, But yeah,
he had a one his last onetwo three outing was before that, and
that was against San Francisco. Yeah, a couple of strikeouts, fifteen pitches
in and out, but he hasnot given up a run in four straight

(10:11):
outings and in six of his lastseven. So I mean, yeah,
Ryan Prossy's gonna be okay. I'vebeen telling people this that he's gonna be
fine. You look at like someof the metrics, the field in a
penn and pitching, the batting averageballs and play all that type of stuff.
He's been extremely unlucky, and thankfullythat's starting to turn a little bit,
lowering his era today to four pointsix six on the year. And

(10:33):
then after that, Josh Hater closesthe door. Uh he pitches a scoreless
ninth and gets his eleventh save ofthe season, and now it's starting to
rock up these saves. It was, it's funny, ross you know you
told me, like have you toldme a couple of weeks ago? Then
you know there's a chance Josh Hadergets somewhere between twenty twenty five saves this
year. I was said, you'recrazy, he's got eleven. Now,

(10:54):
like, it's not. We gotthe whole rest of the season to go,
Like he may finish the season. We'll look back and those are some
damn good numbers for knowing that firstmonth of the season he had where he
was got awful. Yeah, hewas a disaster. Yeah, I was
gonna say a disaster, but acouple of strikeouts today got things done efficiently.
Fourteen pitches, twelve of them forstrikes. Looking on a lot better.

(11:15):
It's really just been the problem forhim has been the hard hit contact.
For whatever reason, he's either strikingpeople out or he's given up home
runs. So not giving up ahome run today good, even with the
two run cushion that they had,So he's been going. I've also somebody
I've had full confidence is gonna beokay. He continues to lower his ERA
down a three point seven to fourafter today's outing. And I know this

(11:35):
might be a little bit coincidental, but the pitching staff as a whole has
just been so good the last coupleof weeks. Now that coincides with the
schedule getting a lot softer where youstarted playing a lot of weaker opponents.
So I get that, but really, you take that one, that one
Saturday game against Detroit where Arraghetti giveup a million runs and they lost thirteen
to five. You take that oneouting out, go look at what the

(11:58):
pitching staff's give it up every night. I mean it's like two runs,
one run, three run, Imean it's it's been even even go back
to that Seattle series where they lostthree out of four in Seattle. Those
games they lost were three to two, four to two, two to one.
You know, it's like the pitchinghas been really really good these last
couple of weeks. And what's funnyis arra Getty and Hunter Brown still had
well even hunder Brown's brought his RAway down, but like Ara Getty's RA

(12:20):
is like six something, but eventhat's down from where it was a month,
you know, his first month ofthe season eight. So it's you're
just starting to see a lot ofthese numbers start to come down in terms
of eras from bullpen guys and starters, and that spells more wins because again,
you still need the run support, and I think they're still lacking a
lot in that department, but youstart to score some more runs. The

(12:41):
pitching has been really, really good. So what you're saying is it's been
a tough stretch of games for JoshMiller. Needs to be fired. Guy,
Yeah, i'd say you know that. Well, you know what baffles
me is we still get calls frompeople who were like, they leave these
pitchers in too long and it's like, what are you talking about? Like,
I mean today, I thought itwas a great example of Arrogetty.

(13:01):
You probably could have stuck with him, but they said, no, let's
pull the rip cord, let's goget him. We'll trust the bullpen get
some outs. Taylor Scott's just beena god. I mean that that guy.
Was he literally saving the season,I mean Taylor Scott and Renew Blanco
or saving the Astros. Remember it'sbeen training standing next to his locker going
no, not him interview like that, you know, like yeah, like

(13:22):
there's no change, got he's gotthat wonderful South African accent. We were
standing on the line waiting to talkto the freaking Royals guy they traded for
it. He's been in Sugar Line. Oh yeah, that's right. I
don't remember his name, Coal somethingCoal. Yeah, he's been. He
was not good. Yeah I wasclose. But you know, it's like
we all thought that was the guythat Taylor Scott was literally the locker next
to his and like that's the guy. He looks all surly out there too.

(13:45):
Yeah, this guy, he's gota little edge to him. He's
like, what's up, what's up? I'm Taylor Scott. I'm letting him
hang, like what and because ofhim, I don't want to hear another
dam. I never want to hearRyan Standing's name again. I don't want
to hear you know, don't giveme a Harris has been a bit for
the Cubs. Oh my buddy,Maton's era is like over six. Hey,
I gotta look it up because Igot a text the other night for
my buddy was a diehard Cubs fanand even and he was like, it

(14:09):
ain't this guy off. Let's seeHector, let's see Ryan Stanck era five
point six seven. Well, ourold friend Jacob Beck, who used to
work with us. It went backto Baton Rouge. He's a Cubs fan
and he texted me out of theblue yesterday He's like, Hector nervous.
It needs to be off my team. This is from a week ago,
so the numbers have changed since. But the Cubs current record a week ago

(14:30):
ross was thirty three and thirty five. Their record, if they only play
seven inning games would have been fortynine and nineteen. Oh my god,
Like Hector Narris is a four pointseven three era right now? Not get
it done? So great? JustI don't want to hear Phil Maton.
I don't want to hear Ryan,Philly Maiton's. I don't want to hear
Hector Nervus. I don't want tohear any of their names again. No,
this bullpen has been it's been nailedmuch. Oh my god, Maton's

(14:52):
been terrible. Did you pay aton of money for Josh Hater? Yes,
you know. I'm gonna check thisout too. What the people are
saying, do you thank god youhave Josh Hater right now? Yeah,
you got Josh Hater. Basically yourreplacements for those guys are Josh Hater,
Taylor Scott, and Seth Martinez, who are all doing better than than what
those three guys are now. Presley, look, he got the ARA back
below five, so it's four sixtysix. You just want to see that

(15:15):
number continue to go down, downand down. But Taylor Scott at one
sixty nine, y Ra, BrianA. Bray, you who you know
is shaky at times two sixty fiveright right now, he's gotten his shit
together, yeah he Oh my god, he looks really sharp. And then
Hater is the Ra's now below fourthree seventy four and going down. So
they're doing a great job. Allright, let's grab a quick time out.
We'll come back if you guys wantto jump in here again seven one

(15:35):
three two on two five seventy ninetyseven one three two ninety and askers questions,
comments you want to get in on, we'll take that, and uh
when we return Ross, we're gonnatalk about the guy making his big league
debut, like we used to say, straight out of high school, straight
to the pros. Okay, JakeBloss straight out straight out of double A

(15:56):
to the pros, jumping triple A. We'll talk about him next. They
really like Jake Bloss, the kidin double A. That that's that's pitching
really well. That was part ofthe no hitter the other night. Dana
Brown has talked a lot about he'sall about fast tracking guys, and he
has would have no problem fast trackinghim. That was uh Jayla Romeo with
the A team yesterday talking about JakeBoss, Jake Bloss getting you're already doing

(16:21):
it like a bloss as Uh.He will be called up to make a
start tomorrow against Grayson Rodriguez of theBaltimore Orioles. Now Saturday, I don't
know you got a ticket to thatone. But you might want to get
one runout. Blanco versus Corbyn Burns. That is two of the best eras
in all the American League this year, two potential All Star candidates. So

(16:45):
that one is uh, that one'stop billing and then done about two hours
of five minutes. Yeah, ohyeah, Saturday game will fly by,
by the way. I think it'sa Kyle Tucker King Tuck bubblehead actually the
yeah, and then Sunday will beFrobert Valdez versus Albert Suarez. So a
good, good matchup here. JakeBloss getting called up, and man,

(17:07):
the Orioles are next up for theAstros. They are absolutely taking it to
the Yankees. Do we have afinal there? Seventeen to five, they
took it to them. So Baltimorewins this series against the Yankees and Ross.
This comes on the heels of themwinning a series against the Phillies,
a series against the Braves, sweepingthe Rays. The Orioles have not lost

(17:33):
the series. It's May twenty second, almost a month since they lost the
series. So you're telling me they'redue. Baby, here come the Astros.
There an orange fire there, Orioles. We could see we go.
We cauld say they're due, butI think in reality we need to be
thinking can the Astros steal one?Hey, come on, so and it's
loser mentality. Probably won't be theJake bloss game. And I'm just telling

(17:56):
you, Corbyn Burns, I allgot this. I don't think they're gonna
get many runs on Corbyn Burns onSaturday could win that one three to one.
I mean, you can go andyou can get a home run off
of a reliever bloop and a blast. That's fine. And honestly a lot
of times when when pictures come firstget called up, especially a guy from
Double A, he he could bethrowing them off kilter with It's true,

(18:18):
yeah, they don't like all thetriple game. Triple A games are on
YouTube. There might not be muchfilms exactly. They don't have much scouting
report of That's what I'm saying,Like, you can have young pictures who
aren't very good come up here andthrow, you know, six innings of
a quality start against a major leaguelineup just because the other team doesn't know
what to expect and they have nogame plan. So it's possible, it's

(18:38):
possible. I choose to be optimistic. About this weekend series. And I'm
not gonna go to the betting windowwith any of these opinions. But it's
possible that the Astros could take twoout of three very very much. So
we still are good man. Weshall see it will It will certainly be
difficult, but this is a Ididn't reset when we came in a live

(18:59):
edition Hi of the Crawford Box,Gast, Chris Gordy and Ross Virial and
we are here live at Carbock Brewing. So having some fun out here and
if you guys want to call in, you feel free at seven one three
two on two five seven ninety sevenone three two two five seven nine.
He would normally do this as aweekly podcast, but let me get an
opportunity to come out here and doit live from Carbock. We do it
that way and so uh, JakeBloss like we said, coming up tomorrow.

(19:23):
Uh and one of the rare I'mtrying to think back to Astros guys
who skipped triple A and just wentstraight from double A to triple A or
to the pros did up. Somebodyhad said josel two ve Jose two.
Now that was but so long ago, I believe yeah, he was hitting
like a thousand in double A.They're like, okay, let's go and
call the dude up now. SomebodyDM me and said Luis Garcia. And

(19:45):
I was trying to remember on thisbecause all that I believe that's accurate.
I don't. He might have skippeddouble A as well. So here's yeah,
all the years messed together. Twentynineteen ended. He was in Class
A Fayetteville, Okay. Then CovidHill with writers, yes, and then
with the stupid delayed season, allthat and a few weeks into the season

(20:06):
he got called up and started forfor uh or came into relief and in
a game that Lance mcclors pitched, and he pitched a handful of games of
twenty nineteen. So he never pitcheddouble air triple A then, because I
think they were they not doing theminor league season that I'm yeah, so
he so, yeah, so heeverybody was on a taxi squad, right,
so he probably would have. It'sjust it didn't exist, so he

(20:30):
couldn't. Yeah, So he camestraight up from there, like Lancel Color's
junior skipped triple A as well, and Jake bloss is doing it and some
of it is he's been really good, but of course some of it is
out of necessity. Yeah, Andand to be honest with you, when
you look at the other options, you know, it was like do you
really want to bring back Blair Henley? Like, like did you If you

(20:52):
look at the astros like top thirtyprospect list, Blair Henley's not even on
there. So the fact they evenbrought the fact they even brought him up,
that was that was the epitome ofit was an emergency, emergency situation.
Yeah, he was, he wason the right amount of rest.
Yeah, he's twenty seven years old. I don't think no disrespect to mister
Henley, but I don't know thathe's gonna make it big in the bigs.

(21:14):
But for Jake Bloss, he hasmade just eight starts at Double A
and will bypass Triple A entirely andmake his big league debut tomorrow night.
He is twenty two years old,has a one to seventy four ERA across
sixty two minor league innings this season. Began the season with four starts at
Hya Asheville quickly under promotion to DoubleA and opponents are batting won twenty seven

(21:34):
against him at Double A Corpus Christie. Of course, last week he teamed
with se Sar Gomez to throw thefirst nine inning no hitter in franchise history
for the Hooks, So that wascool. And he has allowed one earned
run across his past eighteen and athird innings pitched, so that's good.
Yeah, he's been really good, and he's been bumping up and bumping up

(21:56):
the prospect list. Clearly, DanaBrown said that he's had an eye on
him, so we'll see what he'sgot. Unfortunately, welcome to the big
league's kid. Yeah, here's theOriels lineup where they hit the most home
runs in baseball, and they justscored seventeen runs today. Tomorrow will be
June twenty first. Bloss was selectedin the third round in the last July's
draft. He hasn't even been withthe Astros organization for a full calendar year

(22:19):
yet, that's pretty crazy. Hewas pitching George or last year. Yeah.
I think they said they've only hadlike three players three main Georgetown.
So it's a cool story. DanaBrown has been bullish on him. I'll
give Dana credit. He's said acouple of times on those recent Sunday meetings
with Robert Ford said, hey, look and Jake Bloss has got to keep
an eye on And he even said, I think it was last week,

(22:41):
said we're not afraid to call aguy straight up from double A and skip
triple A completely. So he wasright, and they're not afraid. Well,
it's a gamble. We'll see ifit pays off. I saw somebody
had a pretty good take earlier todaythat they said, look, if he
comes up and gets shelled, itdoesn't change my opinion on Jake Bloss.
I still think he's gonna be awesome. I still think he's a top prospect.
But you can't whatever happens tomorrow night, you can't put on him because

(23:04):
you're rushing him and it's and againyou're give him a chance, but if
he gets rocked by the best offensivebaseball and the Orioles like you're talking up
to hey man, Yeah, yougotta catch lightning in a bottle. You
gotta do something. You're you're fivegames below five hundred. We are,
I mean we're one week now frombeing into July, but a week and
change from being into July. It'sgetting later and later into the season.

(23:25):
You've got these injuries. If youare going to make a stand at some
point, you are going to haveto get lucky and you are gonna have
to catch some lightning in a bottle, and maybe that's part of that is
gonna be Jake Bloss. You've alreadydone it with Ronald Blanco. You've already
done it with Hunter Brown. Quitefrankly, I mean, you need your
guy from er Valdez to give youa good start this weekend as well.
Arrag Getty will see and then Bloss, we'll see. How concerned you think

(23:48):
we should be about Verlander very Imean, it's his second il stint.
Maybe it's just a next thing. And apparently it's something he tried to pitch
through. He cut his bullpen shortand then he was the late scratch on
Saturday, said they were going totry to work him through it. Then
they iiled him. We are he'sforty one years old, and so yeah,

(24:11):
I am concerned. I don't know. I'm not a doctor. I
haven't looked at I haven't examined justinVerlander. But when you hear last time
we heard neck discomfort, the dudehad Tommy John. His name was Christian
Javier but multiple injuries for a fortyone year old, and it's not like
you know, he's been a cyyoung candidate this year. Anyways, Yeah,
I'm concerned. Now I did themath. He's had fifty seven innings
pitch. He's got to hit theone forty okay threshold. I did the

(24:33):
math. He's gotta pitch on aneck break. He's trying to get something.
If he comes off the If hecomes off the il after ten days,
he can make roughly about seventeen morestarts this season. He needs eighty
three more innings pitched. If hepitches at least five innings and makes seventeen
starts, that'll get some eighty five. That gets them just over the threshold.

(24:55):
Now we know justin ertlond is gonnago more than five innings in many
of his starts. He mostly goessix or seven, so he can afford
to miss a couple more starts. But point is that's gonna get real tight.
It's gonna get real tight if hemisses another week or two. So
I mean, he wants to beout there, he wants to get those
innings, he wants to eat.It ain't happening, but he wants to
get the three hundred wins, andso he's gonna push everything that he can

(25:17):
to try to get to those thresholds. But I mean, as the old
saying goes, father time is undefeated, or does he see the riding on
the wall and he thinks the Astrosdynasty is dead and he's going, you
know what, let's not let thisoption vest I'll just hit Forge agency next
year. Yeah, justin Verlander,New York Yankee. Sounds about right.
Backing up, Garrett call no,thanks, all right, for Pete's sake,
well, Risen's we'll grab a quicktime out. On return, we

(25:40):
will talk more on the Houston Astros. This is a live edition the Crawford
Box Cast, coming to you fromCarbox Brewing and of course your phone calls
welcome at seven one, three twoon two five, seven ninety. When
we return, Russ will give youa little bit of an update on Jili
Lo Perfito, but we see himthis weekend. We'll discuss that next Myers
crushes it that gun. Hey JakeMyers to catch every Astros game on Sports

(26:03):
Talk seven ninety before the iHeartRadio apphome of your Astros portolong here It's the
Crawford Box Cast presented by Carbock Brewing. Coming to you from Carbock Brewing.
It is Chris Gordy and Ross Virialand we're talking all things astros as we
do normally once a week on thepodcast, but we're doing a lot of
addition in the show here from carBock. Any chance we get to come

(26:25):
out here after a day game, love to come out Here are the car
Bock Brews flowing? Who's to say? Yeah, did you see this big
MLB at Rickwood game is getting readyto take? Yes, it's the Giants
taking on the Cardinals, I believe. Yeah, there it's a capacity at
the old Rickwood. Oh, itcan't be much, right, Yeah,

(26:45):
I'll look it up. I don'tknow. Yeah, Okay, it's decent.
That's got to be bigger. Goteighty three hundred for Thursday's Giants Cardinals.
They say, how many did theyfit into the field of dreams?
It's about that many, right,Yeah? So uh they are. Actually
I just saw they were interviewing aMason Win of the Saint Louis Cardinals.

(27:07):
Yes, he said, today feelslike a little bit bigger than baseball.
He is a local kid, right, yeah, the one from here.
Yeah, Kingwood, I can't keeptrack away Kingwood High. So uh kind
of cool their local kid on thenational stage for another team. But uh,
hey, the the like we beentalking about. The Astros will put
his put an in his name,Mason wins parents s y n the wy.

(27:30):
That's all right, that's that's fine. Uh dumb Jake Bloss will be
called up tomorrow. He'll make hisbig league debut. I'm excited. Will
be at the game tomorrow night asa fan. And uh, I think
I saw the giveaways all weekend Astrosare doing. It's a Bregman jersey giveaway
tomorrow night. Yeah, that's agood one. It's a Kyle Tucker get
bobblehead on Saturday. I don't seewhat Sunday was, but it's it's a

(27:52):
it's a Jake Bloss bobblehead, Ibelieve on Sunday. It is not They
did not have that mate that quickly. Sun Prince crown, Yeah, Princess
day. Do you want to putyour Astros princess crown on Sunday? You
know I always do the games onSunday. I do pretty posts on most
Sundays, and I always end upbeing there for the Princess game, and

(28:14):
I'm always like, you know,I run our social media. I like
to take some pictures for social media. I always feel like the biggest creep,
like could I take a picture ofBut it's like, you know,
it's a lot of frozen Princess Scott. It's cute, you know. I
think people would joint crown. CanI have it and give it to one
of my nieces. I'm sure Ihave two nieces though they'll fight over it,
never mind, But so that theywill do that on on Sunday,

(28:37):
it's pretty interesting. Did you seethe Did you ever listen to Fox Sports
Radio nationally when the Sclar brothers wouldfill in. I remember that. Yeah,
I just saw this. Randy andJason Sklar. They're at Princess Day.
No, this is Saturday. Okay, well they're out the first pitch
before. They must be doing comedy. It's coming back. Are they gonna

(28:59):
be at the impron They must beperforming. Yeah, that's funny though,
I was like, well, themost random thing. The Sclar brothers will
throw out the first pitch on onSaturday. Of course, Friday you'll have
the fireworks, DJ Orbit spinning thetunes and then on Sunday they'll do the
kids run the bases. Now,then they as will be off Monday,
and then they'll play a two gamerwith the Rockies and it'll be that weird

(29:22):
day night day doubleheader or not doubleheader, but they'll play the Tuesday night
game and then the Wednesday day game. And uh again, that's what's so
funny about the schedule. How it'sat up Ross is like, yeah,
it's been it's been a nice stretchof easy games. Now you've got one
of the toughest teams in the Baltimorealsthis weekend. Yeah, but then very

(29:42):
quickly after that, it's the Rockies, the Mets, the Blue Jays,
Twins, Marlin's Rangers to finish itout. I mean, this is there's
a lot more winnable games here.Yeah. And again, like, I
don't think they're gonna suddenly get hotand go on a five or sixteen wins
streak, But keep doing what you'redoing here, chipping away right, two
out of three. Yeah. DanaBrown earlier this week on the Sean Salisbury

(30:04):
Show, was talking about cutting thisthing in half by July, and he
said, or end of July, that's right, so I was gonna say,
July is up here in like tendays. But by the end of
July, so you've already cut twogames. But unfortunately you are taking on
the Baltimore Orioles. They are takingon the Miami Marlins. And if you

(30:25):
look at the schedule strength remaining inthe in Major League Baseball last I checked,
the Mariners have the weakest. Letme go and look, yes,
Astros used to be twenty eighth, but they played a bunch of week teams
recently, including the White Sox.Schedule strength remaining weakest is the twenty ninth
weakest is the Mariners. Twentieth isthe Astros. Oh, so we actually

(30:51):
have a tougher schedule correct remaining thanthe Mariners. Yes, the toughest games
though they do have seven games comingup with the Orioles. So hopefully you
can win two out of three athome this weekend and maybe I don't know,
split on the road or something likethat. I did appreciate the Marlins
or the Mariners sweep of the Rangersthis best week though I know it kind
of separated you and made this gapa little bit bigger, but it was
nice to pass them with all theJohn they've been doing since they won that

(31:15):
World Series. It's nice to seeyou suck. It's yeah, what is
it? It's it's the Bill O'Brien, like, hey, you sucked to
you. You suck too. Youget yell at me, you suck too.
Ers. Yeah, but also, you do have six games remaining against
the Mariners, and those are you'regonna have to take care of business.
Yeah, Dana brought that up too. I mean, that's that's the biggest

(31:36):
way. I mean, you're gonnawin those. You gonna win minimum four.
You gotta winnimum. But look atwhen you went there for a few
weeks ago, played a four gameor you were in every one of those
games. You lost. But that'sMariners baseball. Though they came turtled and
they got great pitching. I feellike every game you'll lose five to three.
Unfortunately, the Orioles are great atboth. Before today's game, when
they scored seventeen runs, they werethe third best offense in OPA and the

(32:00):
second best team in terms of pitchinge er, so they're top five in
both. I think the the Yankeesand the the Orioles are the only two
teams that are top five in bothNo, I lied, the Dodgers are
too cheese. I didn't want topass pass this note along. Joey low
Perffido will be eligible to be calledback up tomorrow. That's good. Dana

(32:22):
Brown has pretty much said, youknow, and all his interviews he's done
last week, that he's gonna comeback up now. He did have hand
inflammation where he missed a handful ofgames. I think he was back in
Triple A last night. So here'sthe question, what do you do he
missed what four or five days withhand inflammation. Do you keep him at

(32:45):
triple A and let him get somemore games under his belt to get his
legs back under him, or doyou go, eh, you know,
one or two games, you're good. We need you back up here.
Because honestly, Ross, after watchinghim start like Cooper Humble doesn't like he
does not belong need to be upon the shoe. Hey, yeah,
so he had a couple of hardhit balls, and honestly, Trey Cabbage
too, like what are we doing? Hey? I like Trey Cabbage.

(33:05):
I guess this is the problem. This is the with the issue you have,
especially as you can't afford injuries, and that's where this team is in
terms of depth. It started offthe season that way, and I mean
it's obviously been a rash of themin terms of the pitching depth. They've
actually been lucky for the most partin terms of their position players. Yeah,
Kyle Tucker took a ball off theshin and he's missing a couple of

(33:28):
weeks, So what Jordan Alvarez acouple of days with the family matter.
So what you on your ideas getshit in the hand a couple of days.
You haven't had anybody tearing acl youhaven't had anybody like last year when
how two Veay's missing months with abroken thumb and then an oblique injury,
and same thing for jord On Alvarez. You've actually been lucky. And I
think this is kind of exposing thelack of position player depth that the Astros

(33:50):
do have. They could have withstoodit a little better with the pitchers.
They've just been suffering more pitching injuries. Aren't their position players? They are
thin? Yeah, I'm just thinkingback to remember seventeen, Late in the
game, they need a bat offthe bench, they could go to Carlos
Beltram Derek, they could go toMarwin Gonzales. Yeah, they could go
to Tyler Wider or Cameron Mabin whothey traded for. Like, these are

(34:10):
the guys they were bringing off thebench, and now you've got Cray Cabbage.
Yeah. I mean Gray's not evenup here. I know, but
it's just like it's you have ourselvesare I have zero faith in any guys
that they pinch it not named Karattini, And now Kartini's hurt. Yeah,
if he needs an aisle steady, yeah, I don't even mention him.

(34:31):
My goodness that the lack of depthor quality depth on this team is really
it's taking its cold. I getthe pitching staff. You got hit with
a ton of injuries. You can'tdo anything about that. But you could
add another bat this offseason. Youknow, we believe in Jake Myers and
Chat that's fine, but still haddepth and experienced bat. That was the
problem. A lot of these guysthat are coming off the bench Laighton games.

(34:53):
These guys have never played this track, Cabbage. How many big league
games do you have? Like thirty? Yeah, not a lot. For
the Angels, he is their MinorLeague player of the year. Like these
we're almost kind of just a guyI just like what's wrong with those dudes
that you know, I'm trying tothink of, like some journeymen that like
you give a you give a minorleague camp, invite you and see if

(35:14):
it could stick, you know, like Leojose Bray he's a vow not him,
but you know, like just somebodythat I'm trying to think like a
Ben Zoebras, those kind of guyswho it's like savvy Vett who you know,
if he gets a couple of pinchingopportunities, he'll be happy with like
not a lot of budget and nota lot of prospects. Ye, that's
the problem is you've you're up againstit financially and you know, just not

(35:37):
not a lot of opportunity. Butagain, those guys are going to break
the bag, you know, takeleague minimum. Get Yeah, Dana Brown
just has to be a wizard andyou have to do you have to do
what you're what's happening right now,you have to draft guys are getting promoted
quick and coming up, and that'shappening with Jake Bloss. Yeah. So
we will see if low Perfido comesup. I know a lot of people
would be excited if he does. And uh, you know again, we'll

(35:57):
see if he gets an opportunity herethis weekend. But if I send some
damn good pitching from the Orioles, need to grab brick grab one more time
out here on the Astros Crawford boxCast presented by Carbo Brewing. Here on
Sports Talk seven Honey live from carBock Brewing background. After this fout,
a segment here of the Crawford boxCast coming to you live from Carbock Brewing
Chris Gordy and Ross Veriel. Aswe continue on here, we've been talking

(36:17):
a lot about George Houston Astros. It's funny I'm reading some some quotes out
there. Apparently Roger Goodell criticized NFLNetworks production of Thursday Night Football, said
it wasn't up to our production standards. Amazon's or who he said Thursday Night?
He said, NFL Networks Thursday Nightfil Oh huh, but that's Amazon,

(36:38):
right, Yeah? I thought Amazonwas on it last year. All
right, Roger, why don't yougo get in the truck shilm. It's
done. Yeah, you go.I love what he said. Did you
see the quote you the other dayabout uh, they denied the chance to
lower prices on the NFL Sunday ticketand he was like, I think it's
very reasonably priced, and I waslike, oh yeah, three hundred forty

(37:00):
nine dollars. The average family shouldyeah more than happy to just pay that
to watch their NFL games. Ridiculous. Yeah, it just gets it gets
super expensive. But anyway, Idigress. The good news is we've got
the Astros on Space City Home Networkhere in Houston. We can watch them
and uh Astros will be back inaction tomorrow. So it was so weird
that they had the off day Mondayand then the Tuesday Wednesday Thursday. I'm

(37:22):
used to the Wednesday day games.Today's Thursday. It was a day game
Thursday, and I think they're off. Aren't they off Monday and Thursday next
week or something like that? Ithink so. Yeah, So it actually
good. This is good for theSURI right now. Yeah, this sets
up very well for the injuries havebeen happening. Yeah, they they will
play Friday, Saturday, Sunday offMonday, They'll play Tuesday, Wednesday off

(37:45):
Thursday, and then you're in thisstretch of Friday, Saturday, Sunday,
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday Saturday Sunday with not an off
day until Monday, July eighth. But I mean, at least this didn't
happen where that stretch were in Maywhere they had twenty nine games in the
month of May or something like that. Yeah, it was brutal. Well,
again, the good thing here isyou'll get it. You'll get a
look at Bloss once, maybe twicebefore you kind of have to make a

(38:08):
decision on you know, I wantto get in a time machine and talk
to Chris Gordy from March and say, hey, Chris, this is gonna
be the astro's rotation in the middleof June. Renale Blanco from er Valdez,
Hunter Brown, Spencer Arraghetty and JakeBloss. Oh, I would have
said the season's done and then ifhe and then if you retroactively tell me
Lauis Garcion writes mccullar still haven't comeback, correct, And Christian Xavier and

(38:32):
Raki he had had to Tommy Johnthey're gonna be out at least another year
plus. And JP France has lostfor weed on a how long? Yeah,
what's it? Where's JP France? Is he lost in the abyss?
I'll tell you this. I sawhim post on his Instagram the other day
a picture of a bow hunter likething, and I'm like, Okay,
he's clearly not working too. Ifhe could work a bow, he could

(38:53):
throw a pitch and he may berehabbit. But like, if he's doing
this today saying like hey, I'mon the gride, then I'm about to
be guys. So I don't knowI digress on that, but yeah,
like he's gone, and then Justinand then you tell me Verlanders on the
air, I would have just said, blow it up, you're done.
Season's over. It ain't happening.I mean they're starting to duck take it

(39:14):
together. They're in this because RonelBlanco has been a godsend. He's been
phenomenal. Yes, cy young candidates, Yes, you're in this because Spencer
getting Hunter Brown dug deep and foundthemselves Hunter Brown, We've been waiting for
forever. Sick dude, he lookscoffee. He told us in and was
it fan Fester, Remember he toldus he was in a bad space mentally
last year, like he was justin mich It wasn't just his arsenalal is

(39:37):
pitching. It was that he didn'thave faith in his stuff, and like
you start questioning do I even belonghere? And you get in your own
head and you get in a badplace, like a dark place. And
yeah, I think adding that sinkerin May has really turned his career around.
Really, I mean it helps somebig time against right handers. That
split change that he uses is great. He had he was working great curve

(39:59):
balls as like, the whole repertoirelooks good. He looks confident, he
looks in rhythm. I mean,he was shaking off Carroteni a couple of
times yesterday. But for the mostpart, it seems like that he is
just getting more and more confident intowho he is as a pitcher, what
he wants to do, his gameplan, and you could just tell he's
got this this aura, this confidence, this swag up on the mountdin that

(40:22):
that wasn't there even seven seven eightstarts ago. Yeah, we need he
got himself right mentally. We needmaybe need from er Valdez to get himself
right mentally. Sometimes he gets inhis own head. But uh, we'll
see on that all right. Thatis gonna do this edition with the Crawford
box casts and live edition from CrawfordCrawford Bok. Remember to get your hands
on a Crawford Bock, whether atthe ballpark this weekend or loading up at

(40:43):
the house. It is a homerun every time with the Crawford Bock from
Carbock Brewing. A thanks to ourfolks out here at Carbock for hosting us,
and we'll be back tomorrow live andlocal. I'll be on next up
at ten am. We'll also beon the Matt Thomas Show at noon and
Seawn Salisburg gets you kicked off atsix am. Right here, all your
