Hey, Welcome to the Lori deYoung Show podcast. If you missed our
show today, we're sorry about that, but here are some highlights for you.
Be sure to catch it tomorrow.Every weekday morning from five till ten,
or on the iHeartRadio app Today's BestCountry ninety three point one w POC
Baltimore Now Top stories at the topof the hour, Kenny Hotter and more

(00:22):
humid Today. High temps are expectedto be up around ninety degrees today,
and there's a chance of some isolatedstrong storms this afternoon and evening as well.
A cold front will end up rollingin tomorrow. We'll see some scattered
showers tomorrow and another chance of strongstorms in the afternoon. Temps will drop
though tomorrow we'll see a high aboutten to fifteen degrees cooler compared to today.
The body of a six then finalconstruction worker who went missing following the

(00:44):
collapse of the key Bridge has beenrecovered. The victim is identified as Jose
Lopez of Baltimore. Keybridge Unified Commands. Salvage divers located his body yesterday before
authorities responded to pull the remains fromthe Potapsco River. Lopez and five other
members of a pothole patching crew werekilled in the early morning hours of March
twenty sixth when the ship Dolli collidedwith the bridge. Speaking of that ship,

(01:04):
explosive charges will be used to freethe Dolli from the wreckage of the
bridge. The crew on the containership will shelter in place during the operation
that will separate part of the bridgetrust that's lying across the bow of the
vessel. Governor Wes Moore says it'snecessary to step in a necessary step in
the effort to refloat and remove theDolly from the channel and then reopen the
port of Baltimore. I think it'swild. The crew is still just like

(01:25):
hanging on the ship right now.It is strange. You couldn't get in
a hotel room or something. Idon't know, Like I just feel like
these guys are just like sitting therepod. It must be like a really
weird feeling, you know, Andit's gonna be some sort of like international
laws or something, because I don'tknow how many of them are actual citizens
here. If they're from another country, I don't know the status of them.
But I just think it's weird. They're just like you guys, just
hang tight. Eventually it's been sixweeks now, but eventually we'll get this

(01:48):
ship out for you and you canget going. It's wild. That's all
I got for you. All right? Coming up on your brief, Bethany,
what do you have? Two newTV shows and a new Starbucks drink?
Oh? All right, our onlyI've been busy this morning. There's
Sam Hunt so much. It's AshleyCook ninety three point one w POC.

(02:19):
So I'm thinking about moms. Iwas just we were just talking about setting
out of mother's cigar. So Ihave a couple of mom related stories that
I'm gonna throw out. Did youguys hear about the woman in Texas who
gave birth to a set of identicalquadruplets? Well, four of them look
the same. That's right. Nofertility treatments this week? Yep. I
feel like that's going to be extremelyrare. One in fifteen million chants of

(02:42):
having that. I would immediately havemy children tattooed. Yeah, so I
could, like, Okay, soBill has the star they're all girls right
across the forehead. I saw thisabout moms. Maryland, New Jersey,
and Tennessee are the three states wherepeople are close to their mom's. Oh,
that's kind of interesting. Did youguys read the weird story about Marlon

(03:06):
Williams. Oh I saw the headlineof this. Okay, so he's fifty
one. He was being interviewed bythe New York Times and he never got
married. He said that he wasalways worried his potential wife would make his
mother feel slighted. It's kind ofweird excuse. Yeah, so his mother's

(03:28):
His mom died in twenty twenty. She was eighty one, and he said
it just broke me her death. It shattered me into a million pieces because
that was my girl. He said. I told my mother on her deathbed,
I never got married because I alwayswanted you to be my number one
girl. Those were my last words. I said, take that to heaven
with you, And she was myonly wish was you got married? Right?

(03:51):
Right? You never gave me agrant? Tog in your way?
Yeah, I don't know. Idon't know how much I like that.
Whow that is something else. Sheiatehis closeness to his mom. I think
that's great that he has that, but like and also a choice not to
get married. That's okay, toofine, too all that the reasoning just
say, like, I don't seemsyou to feel seck. I mean,
your mom can still be an importantpiece of spuzzle. My husband was always

(04:15):
really close to his mom. Ifound it really endearing. But she wasn't
like an interfering type like she waslike I really loved her as much I
think as he did. So Iwas like, yes, yeah, it
was a true like you gained somefamily. Yes, that's nice, best
case scenario. It's a good thing. So I was just thinking about moms
and those stories kind of came tomy mind. What about you, Bethany,

(04:36):
what's up? I saw this thingthat was like things that kids growing
up in the sixties did that wouldhorrify parents now, and I am horrified.
Yeah, but I mean like mostof them are common sense, Like
we know there were no seat beltsand cars, no sunscreen, you had
a wood burning kit that was acommon gift mostly like no safety out of

(05:00):
all safety chemistry sets another thing. And I'm like, is that better,
worse? Different? Does it matter? I was I don't know. I
lawn darts. I think there's arts. Excuse me, those were jarts.
Oh there is something you said aboutmaking mistakes and getting in trouble and like
learning. Yes, like I do. I do think there is something to

(05:24):
that, like you're gonna run, you're gonna trip and scrint and skin your
knee, like you got to understandlike what life is gonna throw at you.
Like I kind of get that, but I'm also for safety, not
burning down the house. I rememberwhen Madeline went to the mall for the
first time, and I like walkedtwenty paces behind her and her friends just
kind of Oh, I bet sheloved that. She loved it just watching

(05:46):
them, and I thought nobody wouldhave done this when I grew up,
like right, like that dumb right, but I was like terrified. But
you also didn't have mall shootings, right, Like those things didn't exist the
same way they do. There aredifferent levels of concern I think in life
than there were forty or fifty yearsago as well. Jeff Box where they

(06:08):
had that whole bit about how whenhe was a kid, like the TV
would go on a TV tray likethis, this huge TV on something that
could easily fall on your right andthe kids would just play around player nobody
thought about it. And also thefact that your parents always wanted you to
go out, like didn't matter,go get out, you know. Whereas

(06:28):
now I think parents are much morecareful about where their kids are going or
what you're doing. Yeah, butI tried that one time. I may
have told you guys this already. But one time, when they were like,
I don't know, ten and sevenor something, I put them outside
in the backyard, the fenced inbackyard. I was like, go outside
and play, go ahead. Andthey sat on the back steps and cried
and they may go outside play that'shis let's go. And all of a

(06:53):
sudden, I look out there,How long do you think it's gonna be?
That's what if we get thirsty? They were talking to each other and
I was like, ew And therewas a saying in this area because I've
talked about this on the year before, about you know, forcing your kids
to go outside, and people usedto say, get out and run the

(07:15):
stink off you. Oh yeah, you never heard that, heard that frisk
Oh yeah, apparently that's okay.My mom used to say, go play
in the street. I don't knowif that is a better meeting or anything.
The ball or you were throwing theprison. She just wanted to get
hit by a card to come back. Things are like way different, and

(07:40):
I just think, no, wonderwe're stressed. Our kids don't go outside
and play. My daughter was activelyasking to go outside yesterday after you like,
can I go play outside? AndI was like, well, it's
raining and it's gross out, sono, we're not going to go outside
play in the mud. I don'twant to go outside right now. We're
not going outside? Right Oh yeah, mean mean mean dad? Yeah,
all right, coming up in aminute. We'll find out what's on your

(08:01):
brain. Saper year. We dohave a hot day coming today, so
I don't know if telling your kidto go out and run the stink off
is going to help. I thinkthey'll be stinkier if they go out.
But temperatures are going to be closeto ninety or at seventy four already.
Day get n WPO say Today's bestcountry stick around Jason al Dean coming up

(08:22):
here in a minute. So yourdaughter, what is the actual high school
graduation date? By the way,it's in the morning, so I probably
can't have to have that day off. I can't come for crying out.
What time in the morning is Ithink we have to be there at nine?
Yeah, So you could come inand then leave it eight. Okay,

(08:43):
does that sound good? Sure? What are you both so worried about?
LORI? You're off that week anyway, so just be me. Just
leave me hanging high and dry. It's fine, bye. Fine. Yeah.
So she's graduating, which I likeliterally never thought would happen, Like
not that she wouldn't graduate, butthat like I would have a kid old

(09:05):
enough to graduate, like just Idon't know you were a young mom,
m h yeah, oh yeah,but like you know, I don't know
if you guys felt like this,Like like when she was growing up.
I was just like I thought shewould always just be six a kid.
Yeah, She's just always a kidthat I'm gonna need to take care of
and like whatever, which I knowis true, but so I just thought,
oh my gosh, like I'm surelots of our listeners have been through

(09:26):
this, like what's the what doI need to know? What's the deal?
Right? And she is going togo out of town to go to
college. She's gonna go to McDaniel. Okay, so when we're super excited
because it'll be far enough but nottoo far. Yeah, right, Yeah?
Do you think that's kind of nice? Yeah, it'll be cute.
So yeah, and they were lovely. We had a great time, you
know, on the tours and stufflike that. So so she's excited about

(09:50):
that, and you know, she'sshe's like ready, but I'm not.
You're not ready to I know.I was like what, I didn't think
this is going to happen? Okay, so you're emotionally needing some help,
yeah, or just like what, like, you know what? You did
it a couple of times, Laurie, would you have any any say?

(10:11):
I think until you go through it, it's kind of like when people try
to tell you what it's like tobe a parent, but you don't really
know till you're a parent. Soit's you can tell people stuff, but
until you go through it. Imean, it was emotional, but at
the same time, I felt likethey were ready, they were ready to
go, and so I didn't youknow, I don't know. I just
felt like it I would I wouldalways cry when they left, when I

(10:35):
drop them off at college. Allof that was very emotional, but pretty
quick, you I think, youknow, you're you live a pretty busy
life. You've got jobs, andyou've got another child at home, and
so I think it'll be a littledifferent for sure, but stuff fills right
into that. Yeah, So Ijust say, until you go through it,

(10:58):
I don't know. Okay, there'sa whole lot of advice to give
somebody half cleanex Right now, Ireally want to embarrass her, Okay,
So I'm thinking, should should Iget T shirts with her face on us?
Or should I get those those signsthat are just her head? Do
you know what I'm talking about? Those? Yes? What should I do?

(11:18):
When my sister graduated from dental school. I went to her graduation.
My brother came with us too,and I guess her last name is s
for Saint Pierre. Uh. Ittook a while to get to her,
but finally we get to her name, and the whole ceremony was fairly subdued,
probably because it was a dental schoolthing, so they had already gone
through the regular graduation like undergrad. Now we're just doing this again. And

(11:39):
my brother and I stand up.We're both like free, good doll,
and everybody around us was like, well, at least you're just saying what
we're all thinking here. But sheheard us from the crowd, and I
could just see like her face juststart to go red. She was like,
that's my stupid family. Was yourgoal? Which was your goal?
Yeah? I love how we alreadygot the email that was like please no

(12:03):
clamping. Yeah I don't like.Oh, you know, no one ever
listens to that, Like you don'tknow who you're dealing with here. Yeah,
we can kind of save your breathon that one. I was going
to bring a marching band. Well, if anybody has a suggestions something that
maybe practically could help with this transition, to help Bethany, just text us

(12:24):
seven seventy nine six' two startwith higher Hey let her know, or
call us eight hundred three two onethirty six ninety three. We would love
to hear your thoughts. You mighthave something to offer more than what I
have. There's so much advice forlike when you have little kids, you
have babies and stuff like that, but like when you're got adult kids,

(12:46):
they leave you hanging. How doesyour son feel? Is he nervous to
have her leave? No, hejust wants to have her room. Yeah,
he wants to play video games.Yeah, that's all that's all he
cares about. Okay, we're tallman, it's George straight and it's six
eleven to keep us in the loopof entertainment and pop culture and the things

(13:09):
we shouldn't care about, but somehowwe really do spend any brie On ninety
three point one WOC. Starbucks hascome up with a new way to take
our money. It's the release ofthree fruity refreshers and they are inspired by
Boba t so. Boba TI usuallyhas uh tapioca pearls, but Starbucks has

(13:33):
their own spin on it, andit's going to taste like blueberries, blackberries,
and raspberries. It's like a bluedrink. They're pretty excited about it.
So yeah, if you want tospend like six or so dollars on
another beverage, you can go dothat this summer. I don't know.
Blue drinks just don't excite me.But I know some people think that's great.
I think it's like a lot ofnatural coloring instead of you know what

(13:54):
I mean. All Right? TheBoy Scouts of America changing their name mm
hmm. One hundred and fourteen yearold organization will now be known as Scouting
America. All right. The changewas announced yesterday at its annual meeting.
You know, I went on acamping trip with the Boy Scouts. Once
you did, it was intense.Okay. I don't think changing the name

(14:18):
is going to change the vibe ofwhat people think about the organization. You
guys didn't even hear my joke.Oh there's more to it. Oh okay,
no, no, okay, ready, I'll do it again. Okay.
I once went on a camping tripwith the boy Scouts. It was
intense. H I get it now. It took me a second. It's
okay, I got it. Thankyou, thanks for going back. And

(14:39):
because we're slow, okay, letme repeat myself. Yes, Saint Pierre's
had no sleep, so he's notgoing to get most jokes today. To
be fair, I'm not usually thatquick anyway, So for the rest of
the morning, if I say somethingfunny, I shall say it twice.
Yeah, just make sure we're onboard. Flavor. Flav says he's going
to pay the way for the entireUS olymp water polo team. Okay,

(15:01):
I know. I love this.Also, I don't love that they don't
have any funding, but anyway, they I guess they've all been working multiple
jobs in order just to get toParis. And when he heard out about
it, he was like, oh, absolutely not I'm going to pay your
whole way. How't think people understand, like how so many of the Olympic
athletes don't have any funding, Likethey have to pay for the majority of
their own way to go places. They're just out here work like working,

(15:24):
and also on an Olympic two theyhave won gold three times. They're looking
for their fourth consecutive gold medal thissummer. So good luck girlies. Reva's

to inherit her father's restaurant, andher new business partner is a half sister
she never knew she had, andthat's Melissa Peterson Peter. Yeah. Yeah,

So she's working with the same crewand producers that she worked with on
her old show. So she hadsuccess last time. Yeah, so we'll
see how that goes. Extreme MagoverHome Edition is making it come back to
ABC. This time. It willbe hosted by Clia and Joanna. That's
the duo that hosts the Home Edit. I don't know if you guys know,
it's like good okay, it's likea Netflix organizational show based on their

(16:11):
Instagram accounts, but lots of peoplelike them. I think they're a little
boring, but whatever. They're veryorganized, that's for sure. And lastly,
gen Z may hate the popular millennialmakeup trend of frosted eyeshadow, but
it was everywhere at the Mecala. So I have a tip for you guys.

He said, let me tell youyour secret about a father's love. Secret

(27:34):

there must be some mistake. Theyain't gonna have things I've done. They'll
never let me in. And insomewhere from the other side, I heard

(27:57):
these words again, and they said, admit secret about it bothered love.
Secret that mine that is said wasjust between us. You see, that
is not just love their children.Every now then it's a love without in

Hattish was saying she doesn't ever wantto date another entertainer. She used to
day common, but she said, entertainers egos are the issue for me.

(44:28):
I think men want you to besubmissive. Let me run your business,
let me decide where you get toperform, let me decide when we're going
to go on vacation. And Iwouldn't mind that so much if it was
a wee thing we decide. WhenI work this job, and a man
makes me feel like I'm his property, I'm his little dog that he walks
or that he shows off. Ido not like that, all right,

(44:51):
Timedy, So she's never going todate another entertainer, that's what she said,
And I started thinking, I wonderif there are other people people that
have like, Okay, I've donethat a couple of times. I'm never
doing that again. Like I'll neverdate another coworker. You know, sometimes
people get into a relationship with somethingI work with that doesn't go well.
Katie said she would never date aman who hasn't had kids. She said,

(45:15):
I have kids, and if Idate somebody who doesn't have kids,
a lot of times they don't appreciatewhat my relationship to my kids is.
So she actually wants to date peoplethat have kids. I think there's something
to that. Yeah. I meanI remember years ago now, I went
on a date with a woman whohad a child, and I remember like
being on that day thinking like Iam not prepared to be a dad at

(45:37):
this point in my life, LikeI'm not ready for this lovely woman.
Her kids seemed great for all accounts, but like I was, like,
I'm realizing now this is not myplace. And I think there is something
to that, Like when you've gonethrough that experience, you understand it differently
and you have a just a betterunderstanding of what it's like to be a
parent. Yeah. So, Bethanye, you're the only single one on our

(45:57):
showy, so is there do youhave anything like that where you've dated enough
whatever? You know? I wishthat somebody had told me a long time
ago that when you date someone, you date their entire family. Yes,
basically that's correct. So I thinkI would never date someone who has a
bad relationship with their family. Yeah, yeah, okay, I think that

(46:20):
might be a And I don't justme like you look at that as a
red flag or because what if theyhave no contact with their family at all
and you don't ever have to dealwith their family. Well, then I
think that it depends on it's abitch a giant red flag, and I
wouldn't say that it would be ano, Okay, it depends on how
they're dealing with it, like areyou know they're talking about it all they

(46:42):
Have you been to therapy? Haveyou talked through this? Like you know
that kind of thing. But like, I think that our relationship with our
like family of origin is really youknow, echoes and later in life,
and I think I would be morecareful about that. I think that's so
interesting. When I was on ononline dating, I did Harmony, and
one of the women that like connectedwith had asked me, like about my

(47:04):
parents' relationship and my relationship with them, and I was like, what does
that matter? Right? What isit fatter what my relationship it's with that?
But clearly there is something to peoplehaving concerned about, you know,
the other family relationship. And Idon't think it's like an end all,
be all kind of thing, butI would be very careful in the future
personally. That's interesting, Okay,I want to hear what other people are

Sorry, stop, We'll get toyou in a minute. Bailey, Okay,
we want to take just a minuteand talk about things that kind of
calm us down. Is at thetopic here? Bethany P Well, yeah,
okay, so, uh stress,I feel like, is it an
all time high for like ever?It doesn't. It seem like everyone's on
eleven all the time. And he'lltell you about it too. It's like

(01:20:00):
a bragging right, and like themore stress you are, like the cooler
you are for some reason. Yes, And so then so then and every
article and every TikTok video andah blahblah is about here's how you can reduce
stress, here's how you can releasestress. And so then I thought,
like, what are we what arewe actually doing? You know, because
I read this article the other daythat was like these six stress relief things

(01:20:21):
don't actually work, and I waslike what, and it was I was
like, come on, I juststarted doing some of them, and it
was basically like if you have tolike rearrange your schedule and like make room
for things like that, feels likeit's not helping, you know. So
I was just wondering, like,on average, what is anybody out there

(01:20:41):
doing that actually works to reduce stress? And because like you know, we
can crowdsource here, we got wegot a big pool people. Yet what
are we doing? What's helping? Is it chocolate? Is it candy?
Candy crush? What is it?Like? I wrote down some stuff,
Okay, what are you doing?Hot math? Okay, that's good?
And just laying in the bath listeningto music. I think, no matter

(01:21:04):
how I do that, it alwaysmakes me calmer. And spending a lot
of time outside with the pups. That's okay, very relaxing thing. You're
supposed to get outside for sure.Yeah, do you want it's the same,
pier, What do you do?It's a really good question because I
find that trying to work in astress reliever, like you were just talking

(01:21:25):
about, trying to work in astress reliever means that I have to find
time to do it, which thenultimately creates mores. Yeah. Yeah,
so it is kind of difficult, and I'm not even trying to like brag
about it, but just like Ithink my day in general, with the
toddler and with work and trying tobalance and balance all those things, it's
tough to find those moments to havethe stress relieving activity. I will say,
I like to read. Reading isa kind of a stress Yeah,

(01:21:48):
it's a stress leaver in some ways. To me, I get in my
own heads, like I'll be readingand then all of a sudden, like
wait, I don't even understand anythingfrom the last five pages, Gonna start
thinking about other things. Or Iget really calm and I just fall sleep
and then I don't read. ButI guess that's a stress reliever if I'm
falling asleep. Yeah, I thinkbooks can be a stress reliever unless you're
thinking, oh, I'm just nevergoing to finish that book. I got

(01:22:10):
it, Like if you look atit as another job, I got to
bring this back to the library tomorrow, right, or I need to read.
I should be reading. It's theword should, like I should be
doing this I shouldn't think that addslike a level of like, oh,
what is it for you, Bethany? Well, I this is going to
sound super lame. Okay, that'sokay. We're used to lame stuff for

(01:22:30):
me. Really okay? Good.I sit in my car just kidd and
cry. I don't even cry.I used to cry, but I'm over
that stage in my life. Yeah. Now, Like I'll literally drive home
from like where I'm sure my neighborsthink I'm absolutely cuckoo. Like I drive
home and like, before going intomy house, I'm just like, shut

(01:22:51):
the car off. That's a thing, though, Is that a thing?
Yes? I think it is.It is. Yeah. In fact,
there's a movie I think it's someis Marlee One about the dog? Is
it Marley and Me? Yeah? And she at one point has a conversation
with her husband, who always doesthat when he gets home, he sits

(01:23:12):
in the car, and she doesn't. He doesn't think she knows he does
that, and he goes She's like, what's that about? You get home
and then you sit in the car. Like, I think it is a
thing because I see people sitting inparking lots all the time. Don't you
come out of someplace, grocery store, whatever, and you'll look over and
there's someone just sitting in their carand you're thinking, well, are they

(01:23:33):
waiting for somebody that went into thestore or are they just they need a
minute? Is the car their office? This is where they get their work
done? Like so many questions. It's just quiet in there. Yeah,
bugs you Yeah, I don't know. So that's but I'm like, that
can't be a stress relief activity.I think it could be ken it.

(01:23:53):
Yeah. Oh yeah, all right, so that's what we're after, right,
the things that Yeah, even ifit's lame, what do you do
to you know, get rid ofthe stress? Like we all need to
