Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome to the weekly show here on iHeartRadio
on ninety three nine LIGHTFM, one of three five Kiss FM,
and Rock ninety five to five. I'm Paulina, and every
week we're here to discuss a variety of topics that
matter to Chicagoland health, education, to finances, and.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
So much more.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Today on the show, we have Melissa Foreman chatting with
musicallyfed dot org, and I'll be chatting with our friends
at the Austin Housing Coalition. Let's kick off the show. Hi,
It's Paulina here with iHeartMedia Chicago, and today on community affairs,
I am chatting with jamaira Austin programming lead at Apple Retail.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
How are you today, I'm so good.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
How are you doing?

Speaker 2 (00:37):
I'm doing so good. Thank you for joining us today.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
I'm super excited to chat about the upcoming school year,
which I'm a new mom, so I know sooner, you know,
then later I'll look forward to the back to schools
season and all that stuff as well. But we are
talking about how students are going to benefit more and
more from technology and how families can prep for this
school year. So we're talking about how to pick the
right Mac or iPad for school and learning, and obviously

(01:01):
how to simplify all of this because even though I
am a millennial, sometimes I do feel like someone's nana
and I just can't get things to work right or
takes forever, and I am like, I'm just I'm in that,
like you know, phase of my life where I'm like,
you know what, I'm just gonna put this down and
we will regroup tomorrow. So I'm happy that you're here
to help us with all of this. So first and foremost,
can you give us a little bit of an introduction

(01:23):
of who you are and everything you do at Apple.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Yeah, Well, first of all, I'd love to say congratulations
on me coming a mom. That's incredible news, of course. Yeah,
my name is Jamiah Austin. I'm a programming lead for
Apple Retail and so I get to work on today
at Apple sessions that we host all around the world
at all of our retail stores where you can learn
more about how to get the most out of your products.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Love it absolutely, So first things first, is you know
we are talking about like back to school right and
prepping for the school year, and how to pick the
right mac or iPad when it comes to like learning
and obviously making things as simple as possible. So you know,
it was whether it's college or you know, high school,
I think I mean now we live in a society,
in a world right where like I think students are

(02:09):
buying things for grammar school and for high school.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Correct.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Yeah, absolutely, Oh my gosh.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
I love that.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
So what you know, should parents, students and educators kind
of keep in mind when they are choosing the right
tech for school.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
Well, it's a big conversation, right, So I'm so glad
we're talking about this now because it's a big job
to make the right tech decision.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
For your school.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
But now really is the best time to start doing
your research and think about what you need. I think
a good place to start is thinking about what your
school day looks like. You know, are you writing papers,
are you editing videos? Are you taking handwritten notes? And
from their key factors like performance and battery life and
durability and price can all play a role. So whether
you're shopping with us online or you're coming into your

(02:54):
local Apple store, our specialists are connecting with students every
day and really really love helping them choose the right
product for them From Mac and iPad, to iPhone, to
all of our incredible services like Apple TV Plus and
Apple Music.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Absolutely, and will you tell us about Apples education pricing,
the back to school offers, and then any trade and
options that you might have.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
So there are three ways right now that students and
families can save which we absolutely love. So the first
one is Apple's Education pricing. It's available year round for
our college students, for their parents and for educators, and
it provides discounts on Mac and iPad which helps make
that back to school tech a little bit more affordable.
And then this summer, as part of our college student offer,

(03:37):
students can choose from air pods, they can choose an
Apple pencil or an eligible accessory when they're purchasing a
Mac or iPad on top of those education savings. So
for example, if you're getting an iPad Pro, you can
receive an Apple Pencil Pro for free on top of
those Apple Education pricing. That's available year round, which is amazing.
And then with Apple's trade in program, students and families

(03:59):
can save even more when they trade in an eligible product,
and it doesn't even have to be a Mac or
an iPad, Apple will give them a gift card that
they can use towards their back to school product.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Oh that's so cool. I love that. So now that
you know it is the time to do that.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
And you know, sometimes people they're not really sure which
which Mac or which iPad is best for me? Right,
And that's something I even struggle with. And I you know,
I work in radio, I work in media, and sometimes
I'm like, do I go with the air the pro?
Like I do question myself a lot, Right, how can
Apple help students choose the best Mac or iPad for
college or for high school, whatever experience they're going into.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
How can you guys help choose that.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
I'm with you, Paulina, It's a great question. So I
think whether you're a student or a parent, finding the
right tech for school, like we said, it's a big decision.
And I really believe that both Mac and iPad are
perfect choices for college. It's based on how you like
to work and the activities that you'll be using it for.
Students can really choose what works best for their needs.
So many students do choose Mac and many choose iPad,

(04:58):
And for some it's not a about either or they
really do own both. So with iPad you get that
really wonderful touch screen experience, So if you're a big
fan of that, iPad's a great option. And when you
combine it with the Apple Pencil and the Magic keyboard,
you get a really incredibly versatile product. And then when
it comes to Mac, it of course brings that amazing
performance that we've known to love. You get battery life,

(05:20):
you get great capabilities like a twelve megapixel stage center
stage camera, the power of Mac os. It's portable, it's durable,
so it's great for all those reasons. And then if
you can't choose between either one, you can really use
them very well together. So whether you're looking to copy
your text from your iPhone or your iPad and paste
it on your Mac, which is one of my favorite features,
or using your iPad additional screen. Like you said, students

(05:43):
can get so much more done nowadays and stay productive
throughout the year.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
That's awesome.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
What about any advice for first time buyers and how
to get set up quickly and of course easily.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
I love when people are buying their first Mac or
their iPad for college. It's such an exciting moment. I
really do still remember buying my first Mac for college,
and I think it's because at Apple, we really want
families and students to feel good about the choice that
they're making, really understanding their options, feeling confident and using
their device on the first day of school. So I
think it's important to start with those affordability options. There

(06:16):
really are so many ways to save. Like we mentioned
trade in, you can finance with the Apple Card, which
gets you three percent cash back. We've got the education
Pricing College Student Offer. We've got tools like if you're
interested in a Mac, we have a tool called help
Me Choose on Apple dot com that recommends the best
Mac for you based on your budget and how you
plan to use it. And then once you have your device,

(06:37):
setting it up is easier than ever if you're transferring
data from your old Mac or iPad, our teams in
store and onlike and help you with safe and secure
data transfer, so it's affordable options available. If you have
a Mac that you're interested in, the help Me Choose
tool is a great one to help you decide, and
then we can help you get set up in store.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
That's incredible, Well, thank you for sharing that.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
And then what about as far as like you know,
last month I know Apple held the annual Developers Conference
where like new software was announced. So what new features
can help students stay productive and focused.

Speaker 4 (07:10):
Yeah, we're super excited about the upcoming software features across
mac os and iPad os, both of which really pushed
the capabilities of Mac and iPad even further. I think
Windowing on iPad os twenty six really has redesigned the
iPad experience to deliver a more powerful and flexible one. Students,
I think are really going to love the variety of

(07:31):
new tools that help them control and arrange and view
and organize their windows, making it easier than ever to
work across apps. And then coming to mac os Tahoe,
a big update to Spotlight makes it even easier for
students to find what they're looking for. We've all been
in those moments where we're looking for that PDF for
that specific email on our Mac, and now new filtering
options can rapidly narrow the search to exactly what you're

(07:54):
looking for.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
That's incredible. Love it.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
And my last question for you is where can people
go to learn more or access the education offer you
know further for any information I'm looking for.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
Yeah, we love when people come down to their local
Apple store and come say hi. So, if you do
have a local store in your area, come in ask
all those questions. We can help you find the right
product for going back to school. And then if you
don't have a local Apple store nearby, you can always
visit us on Apple dot com. All of the details
about the college student offer are there, the education, pricing,

(08:27):
the trade in details, getting set up. It's all available
on Apple dot com.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
Love it well, Thank you so much for being here
with us today. We really really appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (08:36):
Thank you for having us, Paulina.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Awesome, Thank you, thank you.

Speaker 5 (08:41):
Hi.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
It's Paulina here with iHeartMedia Chicago and today I am
chatting with Britney Brittany Bays. Right, we just Britty day
chatting with Brittany Bays and Abby Tackle.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
How are you today?

Speaker 5 (08:53):
Great? Doing well?

Speaker 6 (08:55):
Thanks for having us, Paulina.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
I'm so excited for you to be here today. So
we're talking Austin Housing Coalition. So first and foremost, can
you both please tell me a little bit about yourselves
and then obviously your current role and what your role is.

Speaker 7 (09:09):
Absolutely so this is Abby, I'm the chair of the
Austin Housing Coalition and I'm definitely what you would traditionally
call a houser. I've been working in the affordable housing
space for ten plus years and at the Austin Housing
Coalition were a nonprofit, all volunteer led organization, but we

(09:31):
have been around for twenty years. We're a coalition of
affordable housing developers and advocates in the Austin and Greater
Austin area and we just work to make sure that
as a city we are meeting our affordable housing needs.

Speaker 6 (09:47):
Yeah, and I am Britney Bays and I have served
as the former chair of Austin Housing Coalition and I'm
on our executive committee and have been spearheading this effort
to get an affordable housing locator tool avail to the community.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Love it well, thank you all to bring here again
with me today. So what is the Austin Housing Coalition.

Speaker 6 (10:09):
So the Coalition represents kind of that community of housers
that Abby was talking about. So we are nonprofits for
affordable housing developers, housing and policy experts, businesses, residents, folks
who support the development of safe, affordable housing for Austin residents.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Amazing, And what is the affordable Housing Locator Pilot tool
and why is this needed specifically?

Speaker 6 (10:34):
So, we have a lot of resources around affordable housing,
but it's not very easily accessible to understand where is
the affordable housing, Is it in the area where I need?
And how can I connect with units when I am
looking for a place right now? So the Affordable Housing
Locator tool is really easy to use. It's a chat

(10:55):
based platform and it's available on our website. Folks can
understand ask it questions about their their specifics, their household size,
their income eligibility, and it will return results that match
to them, connecting them directly with the housing providers that
have availability for them.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Now, Okay, that's really good to know.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
And what about you know, as far as like rents
are going down, there's a lot of discussion about the
fact that, you know, we have built ourselves out of
a housing crisis, So do you believe that we need
more affordable housing?

Speaker 2 (11:28):
And what are your thoughts on that?

Speaker 7 (11:31):
Absolutely and thanks for the question. And it is absolutely true.
Anybody who picks up a newspaper these days is going
to see many different headlines that are showing a lot
of different statistics around where we're in our housing need
and our housing availability and so in Austin. What we

(11:51):
definitely experienced was that during the COVID nineteen pandemic, and
due to a lot of different factors around them, especially
lower interest rates and things like that, the price of
housing skyrocketed. That was both rental and home ownership units,
and so put us into a little bit of a panic.

(12:13):
And I think we're really proud of the work that
our city did to bring a ton thousands of units
of both market rate and affordable housing online. And what
we've seen is that rents have come down quite a bit.
I believe it's about twenty percent. Twenty to thirty percent.
Rents year over year have just continued to come down

(12:36):
and they really stabilized now. So that means that they've
come down, you know, since pandemic, since the pandemic increased
those rates. That doesn't mean that they've come down to
rental rates that we saw before the pandemic, which were
already on the rise. So we have done a great
job over the past couple of years of bringing a

(12:57):
lot of multifamily and single family house online. And that's
in large part due to some of the permitting changes,
and it's in large part to a massive affordable housing
bond that we passed in twenty twenty two. But at
this moment in time, if we were to say, Okay,
we've reached our goals, we no longer need to put
any more units on the ground, we would be doing

(13:20):
ourselves a massive disservice and we would be following in
the footsteps of a lot of other cities that have
had affordable housing crises in the past, basically rent Because
we are continuing to see people move to Austin and
there's you know, families are growing, there's always a need
for more housing, and so we need to be thinking

(13:42):
in the long run, especially as we're seeing massive cuts
to federal funding, we need to be thinking about how
do we keep our pipeline growing and how do we
make sure that we keep.

Speaker 6 (13:53):
Housing affordable moving forward.

Speaker 7 (13:55):
And again I just want to stress that, yes, rents
have come down, but they have not come down to
pre pandemic level. So there's still thousands and thousands of
people in our community who have never been able to
afford housing are in Austin. They've always been housing costs burdened,
and we still need to be.

Speaker 6 (14:13):
Building for them.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Absolutely well.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
I appreciate you both coming on today to talk about
this with me as well, so Abby and brittany where
can we go for more information or to if we
wanted to reach out as well, where can we do that?

Speaker 6 (14:26):
Head to Austinhousingcoalition dot org and the locator tools on
our website on the homepage. You can also go to
Austin Housingcoalition dot org as backslash Affordable to be directly
connected to the tool, and we really encourage everyone to
connect there that it's an easy to use platform and

(14:47):
you can be connected to housing that's affordable for you
and your situation and has availability.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
Now, okay, perfect, Thank you both so much for being
here with us today.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
We appreciate it. Thanks Pauline, thank you awesome.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
My interview with you guys is going to air this
week and I'll send you a link once it's up.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
Okay, fantastic, You do so much. Yeah, thank you both.

Speaker 7 (15:05):
And actually, I guess real quick, are there any other
folks that you think we should be talking to?

Speaker 6 (15:11):
Just in your space?

Speaker 2 (15:14):
I can reach out and see.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
I can't think I'm many the top of my head,
but I can definitely think about that and get back
to you.

Speaker 6 (15:20):
That would be great. We really appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
Okay, we'll do. Thank you so much.

Speaker 5 (15:24):
Thanks Heeleina.

Speaker 8 (15:25):
So I'm really excited because we're here with Maria Brunner.
She is the founder of an organization called Musically Fed,
which helps to distribute unused catering after giant events, concerts,
things like Laala that are here in Chicago to make
sure that organizations that need food and supplies actually get them.
It is a brilliant organization. She's been doing it for
about seven years. So I just want to say, Hi, Maria,

(15:47):
how are you doing.

Speaker 5 (15:48):
Hello. We're in the middle of it right.

Speaker 8 (15:51):
You're in the I mean, listen, girl, you're on your
way for four days.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
Have you checked the forecast yet.

Speaker 5 (15:57):
Or what I Yeah, I have. And you know, we've
got guys on the ground.

Speaker 9 (16:00):
We've actually been repurposing unused catering for gosh ten days.

Speaker 8 (16:06):
Right, because you've guys on the ground already setting up
and so you're already redistributing unused catering, which is incredible.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
But then Monday after Lalla is huge for you.

Speaker 5 (16:15):
Right, Monday, big day.

Speaker 9 (16:16):
On Monday, we have reached out to artists VIP and
they're already boxing up unused trail mix, nuts, snacks. They
keep everything for us. And then we got a little
smarter a couple of years ago and we hit up
all the VIP clubs, VIP stands, and so I would

(16:37):
say last year, by three o'clock Monday, we had over
three thousand cans of water, soda, et cetera. But we
probably propagated about eighteen thousand pounds of snacks, water, things
that people just don't want to take back from their
club activities, So things like dry goods like jars of

(16:59):
peanut butter or mustard, ketchup. Everything sealed, everything solid, everything's safety.
But they just we tell them where our tent will be,
when to be there, and that's the big day for
that dispensary. But other than that, we deliver every day.

Speaker 8 (17:15):
Wow, Maria, I have goosebumps. I'm so when I heard
about this. I was so excited to know that this
was happening.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
Where does the food go? In the produce? And again, after.

Speaker 8 (17:24):
Such a giant festival like this, there must have been
so much waste in the past.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
I can't even believe it. But where does the food go?

Speaker 5 (17:32):
And this we've got, there's on Debra's place, there's the
Lincoln Central Shelter. They have two places. There's Central Romero
that's right in the heart of it. We love taking
care of them. We've got about twelve places. Another organization
called Wings Hope for Kids, Hope Recovery, two amazing Salvation

(17:54):
Army outlets that are right in the thick of it,
to sat In Instant, to Paul Outlets, Cafee Cherry. They
you know, there is a system that is underground through
the church system. They'll go who's in need, who needs what.
It's amazing what Chicago is doing.

Speaker 8 (18:13):
Incredible And I know you're doing a ton of work
now with bands like Coldplay and so are you like
what happens?

Speaker 3 (18:19):
Where are you at Lallapalooza.

Speaker 9 (18:21):
We're literally backstage, So the tour managers, the road managers,
they have to walk right by us, and so they
learn more about us because right now we're just finishing
up a national Coldplay tour. We've been out with them
the whole year. Same for Dirk Spentley and we're just
picking up on Willco. Those people will be there, they'll

(18:44):
walk by our tent. But let me tell you the
fun and the cool stuff on the grounds. So Reverb
Reverb is a partner that we work with, formed by
the lead singer of Guster. We have partnered with them
with Billie Eilish. We were just partner together in Europe
and the US and Billies coming back now. So Reverb

(19:05):
is going to be on grounds and they've got several
different places. And if kids or anybody go up and
grab one of those bags and they get those bags
full of plastic and cans and return them, you get
a designer t shirt for Lala that you can't buy.

Speaker 5 (19:21):
It's so cool.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
Oh that's also Reverb.

Speaker 8 (19:23):
So everyone should look for the Reverb tent at Lalla
Reverb r e v erb Okay.

Speaker 9 (19:30):
And they'll see other checkpoints, they'll see them on the
grounds and they are just the best, most fun people
and they are all about recycling so and all about sustainability.

Speaker 8 (19:41):
I love this so much. It is such a great idea.
I can't even imagine the waste before. How long has
Musically Fed been an organization?

Speaker 3 (19:48):
When did you start it?

Speaker 9 (19:49):
I started it seven years ago because my husband, who
was a Vietnam Fed, passed suddenly and I honestly I
felt guilty. I didn't know what to do, what a
veterans need, and I found out they have good places
to be and occasionally really good kitchens, but their donations
of food are carbs or veggies that have a bit

(20:13):
of mold on it, and they do get you know,
they have budgets to buy food.

Speaker 5 (20:18):
But here we are.

Speaker 9 (20:19):
When I went and looked at this one facility, you
too was rolling into rehearse for two nights at our
arena and do two shows. I went right to a
guy named Jake Berry who produces them. I'm going to
take food. Yeah, I'm going to figure out. I'm going
to go to class and I'm going to figure out
how to do this. Got a food handlers permit. Long
story there, but we are so blessed. In fact, in

(20:41):
Chicago we repurpose from both amphitheaters during this season.

Speaker 5 (20:46):
This is our third year doing it.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
Amazing.

Speaker 8 (20:48):
Can people find out about your organization? Is it musicallyfed
dot org? Musically fed musicallyfed dot Org. I am so
glad that you did this, Maria, and I just wish
that twenty years ago we were doing it and that
you were.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
Wow. I mean, I just had to.

Speaker 8 (21:04):
Let everyone know, thank you for what you do and
forget again those kids or for yourself. If you're going
to be there, look for reverb, look for that tent
and then make your donations to it musicallyfed dot org.

Speaker 5 (21:16):
And be your own musically fed. You can do it.
You can figure out how to give what you don't use.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
Yeah, I love this.

Speaker 8 (21:23):
You've inspired me. I'm absolutely inspired. I love it all right.
Maria Bruner from musically Fed, thank you so much. Have
a good, safe weekend and enjoy the shows. And thanks
for this little bit of goodness here in Chicago.

Speaker 5 (21:37):
Oh my gosh, Melissa, thank you for this awareness. Thank you.
It is not enough, so appreciate this. Hi.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
It's Paulina here with iHeartMedia Chicago and today i'm Community Affairs.
I am chatting with Jamaira Austin, programming lead at Apple Retail.

Speaker 2 (21:52):
How are you today, I'm so good.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
How are you doing?

Speaker 2 (21:55):
I'm doing so good. Thank you for joining us today.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
I'm super excited chat about the upcoming school year, which
I'm a new mom, so I know sooner, you know,
then later I'll look forward to the back to school
season and all that stuff as well. But we are
talking about how students are going to benefit more and
more from technology and how families can prep for this
school year. So we're talking about how to pick the
right Mac or iPad for school and learning, and obviously

(22:19):
how to simplify all of this because even though I
am a millennial, sometimes I do feel like someone's nana
and I just can't get things to work right or
it takes forever, and I am like, I'm just I'm
in that like you know, phase of my life where
I'm like, you know what, I'm just gonna put this
down and we will regroup tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
So I'm happy that you're here to help us with
all of this.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
So first and foremost, can you give us a little
bit of an introduction of who you are and everything
you do at Apple.

Speaker 4 (22:45):
Yeah. Well, first of all, I'd love to say congratulations
on me coming a mom. That's incredible news, of course. Yeah,
my name is Jamiah Austin. I'm a programming lead for
Apple Retail and so I get to work on today
at Apple sessions that we host all around the world
at all of our retail stores where you can learn
more about how to get the most out of your products.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
Love it absolutely.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
So first things first, is you know we are talking
about like back to school, right and prepping for the
school year and how to pick the right macro iPad
when it comes to like learning and obviously making things
as simple as possible. So you know, it was whether
it's college or you know, high school, I think I
mean now, we live in a society in a world
right where like I think students are buying things for

(23:29):
grammar school and for high school.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
Correct.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
Yeah, absolutely, Oh my gosh.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
I love that.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
So what you know, should parents, students and educators kind
of keep in mind when they are choosing the right
tech for school.

Speaker 4 (23:42):
Well, it's a big conversation, right, So I'm so glad
we're talking about this now because it's a big job
to make the right tech decision for your school.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
But now really is.

Speaker 4 (23:52):
The best time to start doing your research and think
about what you need. I think a good place to
start is thinking about what your school day looks like.
You know, are you writing paper, are you editing videos?
Are you taking handwritten notes? And from their key factors
like performance and battery life and durability and price can
all play a role. So whether you're shopping with us
online or you're coming into your local Apple store, our

(24:14):
specialists are connecting with students every day and really really
love helping them choose the right product for them, from
mac and iPad to iPhone to all of our incredible
services like Apple TV Plus and Apple Music.

Speaker 1 (24:26):
Absolutely, and will you tell us about Apples education pricing,
the back to school offers, and then any traded options
that you might have.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (24:35):
So there are three ways right now that students and
families can save which we absolutely love. So the first
one is Apple's Education pricing. It's available year round for
our college students, for their parents and for educators, and
it provides discounts on Mac and iPad which helps make
that back to school tech a little bit more affordable.
And then this summer, as part of our college student offer,

(24:56):
students can choose from air pods, they can choose an
Apple pencil or an eligible accessory when they're purchasing a
Mac or iPad on top of those education savings, So
for example, if you're getting an iPad Pro, you can
receive an Apple Pencil Pro for free on top of
those Apple Education pricing that's available year round, which is amazing.
And then with Apple's trade in program, students and families

(25:18):
can save even more when they trade in an eligible product,
and it doesn't even have to be a Mac or
an iPad. Apple will give them a gift card that
they can use towards their back to school product.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
Oh that's so cool. I love that. So now that
you know it is the time to do that.

Speaker 1 (25:32):
And you know, sometimes people they're not really sure which
which Mac or which iPad is best for me, right,
And that's something I even struggle with. And I you know,
I work in radio, I work in media, and sometimes
I'm like, do I go with the air the pro
like I do question myself a lot. Right, How can
Apple help students choose the best Mac or iPad for
college or for high school, whatever experience they're going into.

Speaker 2 (25:54):
How can you guys help choose that.

Speaker 4 (25:56):
I'm with you, Paulina, It's a great question. So I
think whether you're a student or parent, finding the right
tech for school, like we said, it's a big decision.
And I really believe that both Mac and iPad are
perfect choices for college. It's based on how you like
to work and the activities that you'll be using it for.
Students can really choose what works best for their needs.
So many students do choose Mac, and many choose iPad,

(26:17):
and for some it's not about.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
Either or they really do own both.

Speaker 4 (26:21):
So with iPad you get that really wonderful touch screen experience.
So if you're a big fan of that, iPad's a
great option. And when you combine it with the Apple
Pencil and the Magic Keyboard, you get a really incredibly
versatile product. And then when it comes to Mac, it
of course brings that amazing performance that we've known to love.
You get battery life, you get great capabilities like a

(26:41):
twelve megapixel stage center stage camera, the power of Mac os,
it's portable, it's durable, so it's great for all those reasons.
And then if you can't choose between either one, you
can really use them very well together. So whether you're
looking to copy your text from your iPhone or your
iPad and paste it on your Mac, which is one
of my favorite features, or using your iPhone additional screen.

(27:01):
Like you said, students can get so much more done
nowadays and stay productive throughout the year.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
That's awesome.

Speaker 1 (27:06):
What about any advice for first time buyers and how
to get set up quickly and of course easily.

Speaker 4 (27:13):
I love when people are buying their first Mac or
their iPad for college. It's such an exciting moment. I
really do still remember buying my first Mac for college,
and I think it's because at Apple, we really want
families and students to feel good about the choice that
they're making, really understanding their options, feeling confident and using
their device on the first day of school. So I
think it's important to start with those affordability options. There

(27:35):
really are so many ways to save.

(27:56):
setting it up is easier than ever if you're transferring
data from your old Mac or iPad, Our teams in
store and onlike and help you with safe and secure
data transfer, so it's affordable options available. If you have
a Mac that you're interested in, that Helped Me Choose
tool is a great one to help you decide, and
then we can help you get set up in store
that's incredible.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
Well, thank you for sharing that.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
And then what about as far as like you know,
last month, I know, Apple held the annual Developers Conference
where like new software was announced. So what new features
can help students stay productive and focused.

Speaker 4 (28:29):
Yeah, we're so super excited about the upcoming software features
across mac os and iPad os, both of which really
push the capabilities of Mac and iPad even further. I
think Windowing on iPad os twenty six really has redesigned
the iPad experience to deliver a more powerful and flexible one. Students,
I think are really going to love the variety of

(28:50):
new tools that help them control and arrange and view
and organize their windows, making it easier than ever to
work across apps. And then coming to mac os, Tahoe
a big up to Spotlight makes it even easier for
students to find what they're looking for. We've all been
in those moments where we're looking for that PDF for
that specific email on our Mac, and now new filtering
options can rapidly narrow the search to exactly what you're

(29:12):
looking for.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
That's incredible. Love it. And my last question.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
For you is where can people go to learn more
or access the education offer you further for any information
they'm looking for.

Speaker 4 (29:26):
Yeah, we love when people come down to their local
Apple store and come say hi. So, if you do
have a local store in your area, come in ask
all those questions. We can help you find the right
product for going back to school. And then if you
don't have a local Apple store nearby, you can always
visit us on Apple dot com. All of the details
about the college student offer are there, the education pricing,

(29:46):
the trade in details, getting set up, It's all available
on Apple dot com.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Love it well. Thank you so much for being here
though today. We really really appreciate it.
