Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome to the weekly show here on iHeartRadio
on nine either Your nine Light, O FM, one of three,
five Kiss FM, and Rock ninety five to five. Today
on the show, we're chatting with our friends Brady and
Whitney Reynolds, and we're also talking to our friends at
the Goldfish Swim School as well. Let's kick off the show.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Thank you so much. And man, if I wasn't in
a good mood already, it just got boosted because even
before this interview, the one and only Whitney Reynolds was
sending me so much positivity. I didn't ask for it.
It just kind of happens that way. Welcome Whitney Reynolds
to Whitney's Women.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Oh my goodness, Brady, it is so great to be
back with you. You know, I have to tell you, as
the season's changed, I'm amazed with the stories we get
that come through our inbox, with women that are giving
back in huge ways. And speaking of giving back, before
I get to our guest today, I want to give
you a shout out because I know you are a man,
(00:53):
but you are giving back with this marathon as coming up,
tell us who are you running for? I want to
know this because I know you've been running your hard out.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yeah, I've got a nice quick eighteen miles to run Sunday,
which is always a good time. But no, thank you
for that. I'm raising money for Pause, Chicago, Chicago's biggest
no kill shelter. We love our we love our pets,
and yeah, we've been raising money all year long. I've adopted,
I volunteered for Pause. There's such they do such great
work from before you even meet your future for friend
(01:22):
too well after the adoption process. They're the best. So
so yeah, so be rooming me on Chicago. Got the
Chicago Marathon. I'll be the one that's running really slow.
You'll know it's me.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Oh my goodness. Well I will be there with bells
and whistles and a sign for you, just for you.
I'll be looking for you. But no, it is so
great to be back. I know you're hustling heart out
there preparing for that. We're all kind of running around
these days. I think the fall just picks everything up,
and I'm bringing in the expert pick up events that
give back. We have Carla Kittiko, with the regional director
(01:52):
for Invited, who's joining us today to talk about not
only Chicago's Metropolitan club that's giving back in big ways,
plus a little we have for our listeners, but also
what you can do if you live in different areas
or want to visit different areas, and how to get involved. Carla,
welcome to the show. Well, thank you, Whitney. I appreciate it.
Thanks for having me. I am right so to have
(02:14):
you on. Oh me too. I mean hearing U about
the community impact just really speaks to you know, my
heart and our company's mission too. So thank you for
having me. Okay, let's get right to it, because you
mentioned the company in case people don't know about Invited.
Invited Club has clubs all around the nation, but you
have a local one here in Chicago that gives back
(02:36):
in big ways. I've been involved with a couple of
your events, and you know, my kids can't can't live
without your breakfast with Santa j just so you know.
But you have a heart for giving back. Talk a
little bit about Invited mission and how people can get involved. Absolutely, so,
we are at city clubs. We have a city club collection.
We have eighteen across the United States from coast to coast,
(02:59):
and it's essentially a business and social club for urban explorers, travelers, tastemakers,
business professionals, and a community organizations. So our mission for Invited,
which we are a division of Invited, and we also
have golf and country clubs as well, is to build
relationships and enriched lives and create memories that define membership journey.
(03:19):
So we welcome to where it all comes together and
help better than through community impact. So the Metropolitan Club
is that Whitney just mentioned. That is our club at
the top of the Willis Tower, and we have a
couple of ways that we give back. So in addition
to our team as well as our members being stewards
(03:39):
of the community, we tap into various organizations such as
the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, a One Hope, United Support ministries,
Guitars over Guns, we support Black History Months organizations as
well as LGBTQ organizations as well. I love that, you
know the guitars are that was your big event last year.
(04:02):
I remember I saw that come across and I was like,
Oh my goodness, this sounds amazing. You brought wonderful people
in and it wasn't just for the members. The members
get this experience day and day out because it's just
a beautiful view. I mean, personally it's one of my
favorite spots, especially like right as the sun is going down.
But it's also one of those things where you bring
the community in. And I know you do this not
(04:24):
only in Chicago like your big event last year with
the guns and guitars, but you also do this across
the nation Bonton Farms in Dallas to now Tyson in Washington,
d C. Yes, And two things to notate before I
get into the other clubs is that you know the
important work of Invited. You know, we support over one
hundred plus local nonprofits in the communities we serve and
(04:47):
donated two point six million dollars through our charity classic
fundraising events and more than seventy fundraising remaining this year.
And yeah, so we're very proud of that. It's one
of our pillars. And going into our other locations Tower
Clubs doing on Carlos stating I want to stop you.
I want to stop yourate there because this is amazing.
(05:07):
I want to go back to that number you said,
because so often we see big organizations or companies and
you don't know really all the logistics where their heart
is and how they do get back because when they
are big, you know a lot of people have big initiative,
but we don't always know about it. You just said
two point six million through your community impact. Yes, two
point six million. And in addition to that, we have
(05:30):
the Invited scholars Program, which was awarded thirty seven scholarship
awards of fifteen hundred each. And we have the Employee
Care Fund, which is you know, our employees that something
happens like a like a disaster, hurricane, or their families
get sick. So we granted about one hundred and seventy
four thousand, eight hundred dollars in financial assistance to about
(05:51):
one hundred and ninety invited employees. So something we're really
proud of. In addition to supporting the veterans, that is
a amazing Okay, so let's get into how people can
get involved with this mission and the give back. Tell
us about your other clubs and what's going on. Absolutely
so Tower Club Dallas. So that club is located in
(06:12):
downtown Dallas and the Santan's are building at the very
top and they host some fun, exhilarating events such as
a celebrity poker tournament featuring Dallas Cowboys, retirees or Dallas
Baths or those that are in the media industry that
come together. And we also have the golf tournament that
we've teamed up with our local golfing country club, the
(06:35):
Las Colinas Country Club, So we come together as city
club and golfen country Club. So raised about forty eight
k and the nonprofit was Wipeout Kids Cancer And in addition, yeah, yeah,
we're all about the kids and supporting the kids, as
you know Whitney with the Jordan's Speed events and ring
money for Crushit Cup and pediatric cancer. Yeah. And then
(06:58):
in addition to that, Bonton Farms, Whitney, you know you've
visited Bonton Farms and it plants the seeds of hope,
of storytelling that changes lives and inspires prosperity. And Emerson
is to transfer lives by disrupting the systems of inequity,
laying a foundation where change yields health, fullness and opportunity
is the norm. And that's the working farm that's located
(07:19):
in the Bonton area in Dallas. So really proud of
that team over there. You know what I love about
all this is you can be involved in Chicago and
then visit these places too, and you know it's all
giving back. You know, I want people to understand like
this is one of those companies that truly is what
(07:41):
they say they are. It's like inviting people into more.
And so you have events all across the nation where
people can get involved. Where do I know you have
a little special gift for our listeners today, but I
also want you to give the website where people can
get involved. Yes, absolutely, so they get today. You mentioned
in the iHeartRadio interview to the team at Metropolitan Club
(08:04):
and you get a Member of the day past, so
it's your past experience, the exciting business and social Absolutely
so mention that and please visit you know, Invited Cityclubs
dot com. It'll show you all of our city club
So if you are traveling, we can also give you
a Member of the day at another city club. So yeah,
(08:25):
just mention this. That's amazing as you do. Yeah, I
know that is amazing. And then also with just your events,
whenever you said community impact, each club has their community
impact piece which is huge and so I love that
because no matter if it's Chicago, which of course we
love our home market, So shout out to all you
do in Chicago with the nonprofits you work in here.
(08:45):
But like you said, if people are traveling, they can
also see your flex in those other cities. Carla, thank
you so much for coming on. Yeah, thank you for
having me.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Love it. And you know it's funny, Whitney, you and
I recently were talking about Dallas. I'm thinking road trip.
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Oh man. You know, Dallas has a huge piece of
my heart. I was telling you earlier, like if I
don't worry everybody, Chicago is my home. I am like dedicated.
If I ever sell my house, it will be to
my daughter because we'll be right up the road. But
if I before, when I was younger, because I went
to Baylor, I always thought I would en up in Dallas.
But I am proud to call Chicago home and I
(09:23):
love to go visit Dallas. And you know what I
love about this They every literally area that I've gone to,
they have a club that is giving back in a
big way. So it's incredible. But you know, Brady, speaking
of going everywhere and doing everything, is that season for
the Whitney Reynolds Joe, Because I think I wish you
had like some drum roll music because we are entering
(09:45):
in season ten a decade of hope. In debuting our
new video board, come off to worth its congratulations.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
This little thing that you had this vision of is
now on and it's tenth year. You're gone completely. You're
around the world doing interviews. You're bringing hopes to so
many people. That is such a big accomplishment with I'm so.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Proud of you, oh man. The goals would be the
strongest voice of hope, and I feel like the little
engine that could now has a whole caboosts a bunch
of little trains that have followed along. And that's our
loyal viewers and our home base of Chicago that elevated
us to this level. So as we enter into season ten,
you're going to see so many amazing stories that you're
also going to see the growth of the Whitney Reynolds
(10:27):
Show from our live audience to the video boards. It
all kicks off October thirteenth. You can stream it around
the nation. You can also watch it live on PBS
World Channel that Saturday, the eighteenth. We want people to
be on board that moving the dial forward for others
is cool. We don't have to be against each other.
We can unite and if we own our tough moments,
(10:48):
then we can help the people after us, because then
we make the road a little bit easier. So that's
all coming up. You can go to Whitney Reynolds dot
com for more infol.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Whitney, thank you so much. I'll let you go because
you are a busy, busy, busy woman and having an awesome,
awesome weekend and we'll talk soon.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
Thank you. Brady.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
Hi, It's Paulina here with iHeartMedia Chicago, and today I
am chatting with Rebecca McGregor, Vice president of Operations. How
are you today?
Speaker 2 (11:13):
I'm good.
Speaker 5 (11:13):
Thanks so much for asking how are you?
Speaker 4 (11:15):
I'm good. I'm so good to have you on the
show today because we are talking about Goldfish Swim School
and your partnership with Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, and
we're talking water safety, we're talking swim we're talking all
that good stuff. Before we dive into that, though, I
would love for you to kind of talk about yourself
and your role and kind of what that looks like.
Speaker 5 (11:36):
Sure, So I started working with Goldfish Swim School in
oh my gosh, twenty eleven, I think I was still
in college. I started as a swim instructor, and then
the company started to expand I was able to come
out to Chicago and help open some of our swim
schools out here, so I've been around for a while.
I love teaching swim lessons. I love helping our team
(11:59):
member learn how to teach swim lessons and kind of grow,
and yeah, it's just a really great mission. I love
being in the water. I have kids myself now, and
I love that they're in the water all the time.
So it's just a really great mission that we have.
Water safety is obviously super important to me.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
Absolutely, I love that. So yeah, I have a one
and a halfy year old too, and we actually, I
think are starting swim lessons with you guys next week
or the week after. So I'm so excited.
Speaker 5 (12:25):
That's gonna be so fun.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
It is so fun. Not only is it an activity for,
you know, my toddler to do, there's a lot of
safety that goes into it, and she's also learning so much.
I was never taught swim till I was much older.
Just the importance and the safety and kind of all
of that, so I'm very excited that I guess to
do this with my daughter to kind of show her,
you know, much earlier than I than I was able to.
Speaker 5 (12:48):
Do, so so great. It's just such a wonderful thing
to start so early. I find that, like so many
of the kids that swim with us, and they start
from that young age, this is the first thing that
they really learn how to do by themselves. It's a
really big you know, before they're tying their shoes, before
they're learn learning to ride their bike, before they can
write their name, they can learn how to swim, and
that accomplishment really builds their confidence and their resilience. And
(13:11):
it's just it's such an important thing.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
I love it. That's amazing to know. And for you know,
your partnership with Lurry's, I sort of would love to
talk about that and kind of dive into it. So
I did read that there was a you know, massive
donation that was given in terms of the the safety
and the educational part of it for Lurie's children. How
did that sort of come to be and then of
course what does that mean for the for the children
(13:36):
at Lori's.
Speaker 5 (13:38):
Yeah, so we've had a really great partnership with Amy Hill,
who works in injury prevention over at Lurry Children's. We've
kind of worked with her over the last couple of
years and and kind of sat with helping with the
Chicago Water Safety Coalition. So we had to build We
had a relationship already and as a group all of
(13:59):
the locations in Chicago Land there's fifteen locations, we were
trying to figure out how we could have a bigger impact.
Of course, we've got all the kids that are in
our pool every day, but not every child is signed
up for swim lessons and not every parent has access
to water safety information. Lury Children's has so many patients,
(14:19):
so many families that come through their doors every day,
so we originally just got together with them and we
were able to help come up with water safety education
that could be entered into and sent out through my chart.
So this information is available for parents with young children
at developmentally appropriate milestones, talking about what swim and water
(14:42):
safety milestones the child should be hitting based on their age.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
I love that. Now, that's incredible. So Goldfish Schools of
those logs are just tuning in. Goldfish Schools of Chicago
Land has committed to a thirty thousand dollars donation to
Luriy's Children for twenty twenty five twenty twenty six school year,
which I think is so amazing as well. And are
there any statistics that you can share that you might
be able to share with the audience in terms of
(15:06):
you know, pool safety, right, I know summer has sort
of come to an end here in Chicago, but you know,
summer will be right back around the corner next year.
As far as statistics and just numbers that parents should know,
what what do you feel as far as once the
kids get into these programs, right do you find and
they could be you know, in the city or it
could be a more national thing that the incidents that
(15:30):
occur in pools and water stuff like that, do they
seem to decline once more kids are involved and more
people have access to this?
Speaker 5 (15:37):
Yeah, definitely. You know, there's been studies that show that
formal swim lessons, formal quality swim lessons can reduce a
child's risk of drowning by over seventy percent. And this
is so important for kids to have easy, normal access
to swim lessons. So if they can be learning what
their swim ability is every week, they make us the
(16:01):
pool and really finding out you know, like if they
if they can swim by themselves. It's so important for
a child to not just learn how to swim, but
also know when they don't know how to swim. So, yeah,
those statistics, that statistic is really important to us. Also,
drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children
ages one to four. So you know a lot of
times we think, oh, swim lessons when they turn four
(16:22):
or five they get into kindergarten. But what you're doing
right now, starting at one and a half years old,
that's the key to helping our kids stay safer on
the water.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
Absolutely, and this also applies to just parents of all
you know, parts of the Chicagoland you know, just because
you may not have a pool, but I'm thinking, okay,
what about the fresh water that people go into, right
like Lake Michigan is in our backyard, you know.
Speaker 5 (16:45):
The next Yeah, the next most at risk group of
people outside of this one to four age group, aside
from from children with autism, is actually teenagers, teenage boys,
adolescent boys. And that's what we see a lot here
in Chicagoland in the lakes. It's just overconfidence in swim abilities,
(17:07):
and there's there's a lot of conditions in our lakes
here that even the best swimmer could not navigate and
would not be able to survive. So you know, it's
really this educational piece is very important.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
Yeah, absolutely, I agree with that, and I love that
we're able to spread this message today and you know,
encourage parents to get involved in any kind of swim
program that they can, you know, have access to, whether
it's your park, district, whatever. But obviously, you know, Goldfish
is what we're going too. So I'm really excited that
I get to teach my daughter these things, you know,
at this young age. So I love it. Thank you,
(17:41):
It's gonna be good. That's great, absolutely, So thank you
again for being here on the show with us. We
really appreciate it. If any parents would love to learn
more about, you know, swim safety or water safety and
they want to get more information on Goldfish as well,
any of your programs, where can we do that?
Speaker 5 (17:59):
You visit us at Goldfish swimschool dot com, check out
any of the fifteen Chicago land locations. If you're even
just thinking about swim lessons and wondering what your child
might need to learn, you can book a free trial
at any of our locations. Come in, check it out,
and you know see what we're all about.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Thank you so much. And man, if I wasn't in
a good mood already, it just got boosted because even
before this interview, the one and only Whitney Reynolds was
sending me so much positivity. I didn't ask for it,
it just it just kind of happens that way. Welcome
Whitney Renolds at Whitney's with it.

love our home market. So shout out to all you
do in Chicago with the nonprofits you work in here.
(26:45):
But like you said, if people are traveling, they can
also see your flex in those other cities. Carla, thank
you so much for coming on. Yeah, thank you for
having me.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
Love it and you know it's funny Whitney. You and
I recently were talking about Dallas. I'm thinking road trip.
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
Oh man. You know, Dallas has a huge piece of
my heart. I was telling you earlier, like if I
don't worry everybody, Chicago is my home. I am like dedicated.
If I ever sell my health, it will be to
my daughter because we'll be right up the road. But
if I before, when I was younger, because I went
to Baylor, I always thought I would end up in Dallas.
But I am proud to call Chicago home and I
(27:23):
love to go visit Dallas. And you know what I
love about this They every literally area that I've gone to,
they have a club that is giving back in a
big way. So it's incredible. But you know, Brady, speaking
of going everywhere and doing everything, is that season for
the Whitney Reynolds, Joe, because I think I wish you
had like some drum roll music because we are entering
(27:45):
in season ten a decade of hope and debuting our
new video board. Come off Toworths.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
Congratulations, this little thing that you had this vision of
is now on and it's tenth year. You're got completely national.
You're around the world doing interviews. You're bringing hope to
so many people. That is such a big accomplishment with
I'm so proud.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
Of you, oh man. The goals would be the strongest
voice of hope. And I feel like the little engine
that could now has a whole caboose, a bunch of
little trains that have followed along. And that's our loyal
viewers and our home base of Chicago that elevated us
to this level. So as we enter into season ten,
you're going to see so many amazing stories that you're
also going to see the growth of the Whitney Reynolds
(28:26):
Show from our live audience to the video boards. It
all kicks off October thirteenth. You can stream it around
the nation. You can also watch it live on PBS
World Channel that Saturday, the eighteenth. We want people to
be on board that moving the dial forward for others
is cool. We don't have to be against each other.
We can unite and if we own our tough moments,
(28:48):
then we can help the people after us, because then
we make the road a little bit easier. So that's
all coming up. You can go to Whitney Reynolds Dot
com for more infol Whitney.
Speaker 2 (28:55):

are a busy, busy, busy woman and have an one
