Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're on board the Nautical Ventures Weekly Fisherman Show with
legendary fisherman Eric Brandon, an extreme angler Joe Hector, powered
by Mercury Marine, Go boldly.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Day tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
I think we're actually live now, so I can say say,
holy Eric beaverd Chips brought a radio.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Man, I know we're here on the radio live at
the boat show. Well, we'll talk about that shortly.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Good morning everybody, Nautical Venture's Weekly Fisherman Show.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
You're number eighteen. Soon nineteen is smoking along, nineteen years.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Nineteen coming up about two months. This is the anniversary
date of the show. Geeze man, that's a long time ago, bro,
a long time ago. Anyway, Hi to what chef a
knife twenty find a ship back there and Steve J.
Grays on some kind of a party weekend. So everybody,
Noah's flying a ship that they said they can know
very much.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
I'm trying. I'm trying.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
I'm trying, and we're trying to get that Facebook live
stream thing. I'll see where is it here? Wefresh, we're
live fresh.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Let me see where it is man live, Okay, So
hi to my great friend jam and Hector.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Hi in the right hot seat. Joey. How are you, buddy?
I'm doing good man. How about you? I heard the
boat show you've been having a blast and you sold
three boats.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Where is the Facebook live stream? I don't see it, man,
I don't know is yours live yet?

Speaker 5 (01:32):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Okay? Anyway, So yeah, boat shows going on.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
It's called the Miami International Boat Show and this is
day number four of the show. And Nautical Ventures is
out there everywhere. I mean, they've got boats everywhere. It's
basically Roger Moore's playground. It's pretty much Roger Moore's play
ground for the public. The Aqua Zone's out there, Christian
Schmoyer's out there doing her things. They've got the toys

(01:55):
in the water. You got Cat Haley after doing stuff
in the water as well.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
I saw some girls on the sly in the aquazone.
Oh you would notice that, would you. Yeah? Were they
wearing bikinis or they want pieces or what were they?

Speaker 6 (02:05):
No?

Speaker 2 (02:05):
They were wearing suits?

Speaker 7 (02:07):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Suits really? Okay, you know, like with bow ties and
stuff for real. Yeah. I didn't see the part though, anyway.
So that's going on.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Strong Man and Kevi Bond This weekended by a boat.
If you want to they're especially priced on my ned. Yeah,
I guess the great deal is going on. One of
thing bad about the show is the food costs. I
had my very first thirty five dollars cheeseburger. Was it
caked in gold?

Speaker 2 (02:32):
It was caked and shmeg. Yeah, it was not very
appetizing at all. How much is like a hot dog?

Speaker 3 (02:38):
That's about twenty eight okay? Yeah, so save up your
bundy for the food vendors and then change on a boat.

Speaker 8 (02:47):
So let's say I wanted a burger, Mia want a
hot dog, and my wife Maria wants a burger.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
The total cost three three thousand, buy a boat. Go
the Smack's Efficient Smack. We have Jimbo Thomas holding on
line one. Joey Jimbo, Now you did some really lay
mass intro last week is so lame.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
I timed it was four and a half minutes to
get to the end, but I gave him a good
solid It was dame.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
It was embarrassing, really was. I took myself off the
show on the Facebook Street. I just photo shot myself out.
I was so embarrassed, you really, I had to get
out of it. Yeah, anyway, you gotta bring him out
it or shall I?

Speaker 2 (03:25):
It's your turn?

Speaker 3 (03:26):
All right, here we go, man the band with the plan,
who travels the Earth in search of predatory species, afraid
of nothing, not even a forty five pounds stone crab claw.
When he stands his hand down that whole thing and
grams one correct, he is just fearless, a bar none
and does love his Budweiser, and is the man.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
Jimbo Thomas, the Thomas Flyer. Give one in Jimbo, Yay,
good morning.

Speaker 9 (03:51):
You got one thing right, one out of four. The
fiser part, well.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
You know, you graciously took my call last night. Thanks
for that, buddy. I appreciate you taking my call and
hanging out on me.

Speaker 9 (04:03):
But yeah, I had a very romantic Valentine's dinner going
on and you blocked me.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
How sandwich for that Valatine's meal? Is that pretty good?

Speaker 9 (04:16):
It was good. I had had some red jelly on
it for the you know, fit in with the day.
So it's all good, Joe.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
He's such a romantic guy, it's yeah.

Speaker 10 (04:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Anyway, we chatted and you had a decent week. The
fly went out quite a bit this week, understand.

Speaker 10 (04:31):
Right, Yes we did.

Speaker 9 (04:34):
We had fairly decent weather, although it was seems to
be a little breezy today which they were calling for. Uh,
fishing still been kind of so. So throughout the week
we've tite fished. We've had one sale. We've gone out
to what I call the government cut humped the spot
out in front of the cut out and five hundred

(04:55):
feet where the black and and tunas seemed to hang
out pretty consistently, and we we had pilchards and we
chummed up the tunas, got them up, but up with
the tunas were the sharks, which is always the case,
it seems. So we we caught the very first tuna
that we hooked, which was about eight or nine pounds,

(05:16):
and that they're all football for the most part, and
then they just started getting eat and we had to
keep going up and tackle to try and get them
to the boat faster, and it didn't work. So after
we had a half a dozen sharks, I'm like, well,
we're going to let these tunas live because they're all
friends until you hook one of them. Yeah, right, And

(05:37):
so the tuners are there, they're biting, but the sharks
are biting even more ferociously. So otherwise we've had a
few kings. I haven't personally caught any mahi's, but there
have been a couple of mahi's caught and the what
else we dropped on some recks. Yesterday we caught a
big amber jack, your favorite, Eric, and we we did

(06:01):
catch two big, beautiful red snappers, like twenty plus pounders,
but we're not allowed to keep them.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Yes, keeping jee forever. They've been closed for twenty years. Man,
why are the red snappers Joe? They've been around shut
down for twenty years. What is the purpose of that?

Speaker 10 (06:23):
They obviously.

Speaker 9 (06:26):
Now they thought they were endangered, which they probably were
twenty years ago when they decided to shut them down,
but they haven't decided to let us catch them. The
season is open to if they decide to open the season.
It's opened last year for two days like a Friday
and a Saturday, a random weekend of their choosing. So

(06:50):
basically there's no season for him. But yeah, these were
I mean, they were beautiful fish. Twenty I didn't way
them because we had to get them back in the water.
But twenty plus pounders, two of them back to back
we got, so obviously the closure works.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
Yeah, and Snucker impossible to catch because the slot is
totally unentertainable.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
I mean.

Speaker 9 (07:16):
That's bs. We catch tons of good snooks.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Yeah, but do you ever go You just gotta know
what to do where.

Speaker 9 (07:24):
Yeah, we can't slots all the time, right right, I mean.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
We've all actually agreed on something. I bet you that
you catch are overslot, yeah or under whatever, you know.

Speaker 9 (07:37):
Honestly, I would rather catch an overslot than a slot
because that just means he's a lot bigger fish. If
I'm I even let go most of the slots that
I catch, and I'd rather the bigger the better, just
so I can brag about catching a twenty pounds or
better if if possible. So, but yeah, there's plenty. We

(08:00):
have slot snook and the red snapper. They couldn't do
a slot on those because there they get blown up,
beara trauma from bringing them up from the depths that
we catch them in, so we have to use the
descending device to get them back down and hopefully they
survive and don't get eaten and whatnot. So but so

(08:23):
you know, we made it out. We caught fish, but
they have not been jumping in the boat, which has
been the case for quite some time now.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
Well it's been a report today than the last couple
of weekends. Joke, because it's got a sketchy miamis yeah,
banging great.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
I mean, listen, I think the fishing everywhere has just
been kind of nah.

Speaker 9 (08:41):
Yeah, I agree, and there's just no rhyme or reason
for it. Yeah, it should be uh, it should be
going off now. You know, we got a little change
in the weather with some wind today, so maybe that'll
turn things around where we've got some clients that want
to catch a sailfish, so that is playing. At least
we'll catch the live baits and go see what the

(09:02):
water looks like and decide which way we're going to
go and put the kites up and hopefully catch their
sailfish for them and whatever else in between.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Jimbo, Jimbo, what do you feel about like all around?
How's the sailfishing bin?

Speaker 9 (09:21):
They it has not been very good down in the
Miami area, at least up in Jupiter and Stuart. A
couple of weeks ago they were killing them. I it
was red hot. So last year on February twentieth is

(09:41):
when we had this epic epic sailfish bite and on
starting on the twentieth there was both catching twenty thirty
forty sailfish a day. And this went on for three days,
the twenty first and twenty second. On the fourth day,
it was like you fut the switch. They weren't there again.

(10:03):
So I've got a regular customer of mine that loves
to catch sailfish, and he called me up and he says,
when was that great sailfish bite? And I said, let's
start on the twentieth though. He goes, all right, We're
going to go on the twentieth and see if it
if it happens again, which is a long stretch, but
you never know. It was that massive fish that was

(10:25):
up in Jupiter. They've got to start moving sometime. And
you know, when that epic bite occurred, all the conditions
just lined up right. The current was right, the wind
was right, the fish happened to be their biting. So
you know, it can happen overnight, so let's hope it
happened over last night.

Speaker 8 (10:45):
And it helps, you know, like to have those dates,
like when I did my summer tournaments for years, for
like five years straight, we had them close to as
close as we could to the same kind of moon
and date because we were catching those and it was
consistent for like five years.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
And of course you had to bring in the fact
that was your tournament's slight plug there again as usual.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
But yeah, that wasn't a shill, that was a plug. No,
you're saying your tournaments you were doing shilling for yourself again,
what you No, I wasn't Jimbo's he was talking about.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
Tell you what, jim He's never shilled for one free
thing on his show in eighteen years.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
Yeah, I have.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
He's not learning though, Yeah, Jimbo, but you got to
offer jump on the free ride train. Just go put
them out there for free. Okay, let you go ahead,
the spots and the whole planet. Okay, anyway, jim Bum
go look on the flyer man. Catch him up, buddy,
have a fine weekend, and thanks again for jumping on
the show. You're number one in the show. And yeah
for jim Bo, Thank you, buddy.

Speaker 9 (11:45):
Okay, You're very welcome, and I will talk to you
guys next week. And good luck out there on the
water everybody. And how fun at the boat show, Eric,
thank you.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
Jim can take my spot? Well speak of the boat show, Joe, Yes, okay,
so but the show and we do all the networking,
you know, nautical interests everywhere I've talked to other guys
in Orange are after doing their thing, just really representing great.
So I went by this booth that rhymes with I
can't say the brand on the show, but it rhymes
with sting Ray. Okay, okay, rhymes with sting Ray the brand.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
I got it.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
So I'm chatting to a couple of guys. I meet
a guy named Bob van Vollenhoven. Okay, how about that name?

Speaker 11 (12:22):
Huh?

Speaker 2 (12:22):
Come again, Bob.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
Van Vollenhoven, German, German, whatever it sound like to me.
So we're chatting about things and I mentioned the radio show.
He goes, oh cool, tell me about the show I did.
He goes, what, I'll bet you one hundred bucks you
won't mention my name on the show.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
So I just did. What is it again?

Speaker 3 (12:40):
Bob van van Vollenhoven is kind of a big shot
the business, and so at that time, is buddy Ben
Lovelace pulls up next to him.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
Come on, it says that, come on.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
It says, if you mentioned our names, I'm gonna double it. Okay,
so I'm gonna score some big money this morning.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
Say that again. What's it?

Speaker 9 (12:58):
Wait?

Speaker 2 (12:59):
The first guy's Van.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
Van Vollenhoven and his buddy Ben Lovelace. Now, if you
asked me, it's something the name of two porn stars.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
What is this a cartoon? No, it's something two adult
porn stars.

Speaker 12 (13:10):
What is it?

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Lovely Love? It's Lovelace Lovelace. Think about that movie back today? Right,
I wasn't around. It was deep something anyway.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
So, Bob van Vollenhoven, I just said, your name, Ben Lovelace.
You got it out there, and I'll expect to get
paid when I see you next.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
Wow photo? Oh is their photo online? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (13:29):
I didn't put a lot of hanging on the stream.
I'm looking at that straight. Maybe at least two characters
there we are. Yep, that's those guys. How about that man?
So anyway, I got that out. Let's go on and
move along with the show.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
Here shall we? Coming up this hour?

Speaker 12 (18:27):

Speaker 14 (18:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
The keyboard today is Van Vollenhoven volle hole. He watched
his name like it did Rapaport back in the day.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
Okay, remember that it's Van Vollenhoven voll. You missed a
couple of syllables.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
The man, I got it, Van.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
This's got a guy with a pretty interesting lass name, Noahkowski.
Corey Doer's name the Snakehead record holder. By the way,
the state of Florida. Oh yeah, cred man, it's caught
everything but a freaking monster arapaima.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
I think I'm sure he's seen him. Actually, that'd be
a good question. They're around, right, they are around. They
are in South Florida. Eric, Oh god, let's ask him.
Let's ask him. Corey.

Speaker 24 (19:13):
Good on it to you, buddy, How you guys doing.
Good morning.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
I'm toasted from the boat shows.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
This is the day numberfore but otherwise I'm doing just
five eyes or barely even open by the way. But yeah,
we're here, so we're alive. What's on your plate. What's
been the Corey special this week?

Speaker 2 (19:29):
Buddy?

Speaker 25 (19:32):
Well, the the snakehead bite's been it's been pretty good.
Uh we got him up to eleven pounds, so in
some big fish hidden mostly been a it's been like
I said with flast week, it was mostly like that
later afternoon bite's been the it's been where the bigger
fish and the majority of the fish have been hidden.

(19:56):
So that's as it keeps warming up. That's should change
here just because they should star hitting at all times
of the day. I haven't getting some clown night fish too.
Had a client clown client get to get a few
the other day. So they've been coming around as well.
And uh, the peacocks they've been starting to bed up,

(20:19):
so you know, it's starting to get into that spawning routine.
So they're you know, getting into that into that time
of the year, and I think it's springtimes. It has
been so warm lately, so so in the bast fight
out in the glades has been it has been decent.
If you can find clean water. That's it's kind of
been kind of screwy out there with the all that
water they're discharging out of Lego Chobe right now, so

(20:42):
there's been some areas that have been really muddied up.
If you can find clean water, you can usually you
can get into some fish. So yeah, snakehead bites. Snakehead
bite has been it's been very good though. It's been
producing pretty good, pretty nice fish.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
So again we thought about Tasha, same old beat, like
frogs off the bank and what's it hits the water,
they just come up, just jump it and bang it.

Speaker 25 (21:06):
Yeah, yeah, I mean the yeah, the one well that
the one eleven pounder was on a frog and that
was like twelve o'clock in the afternoon, the bright skies,
not really the great time to be using that, but
they just seemed they just seem to be hitting the
day goes on as it warms up. That some of
the days, the morning bite has been all right, and

(21:28):
some days it's just been pretty pathetic at times. Just
it's one day I just couldn't get get anything going.
It was whatever you use in anything, subservice top water.
And then at about ten eleven o'clock and it started
picking up. So using the frogs chatter baits like a
vibrating jig. That's you know that those does work very

(21:50):
well lately as well.

Speaker 3 (21:53):
So your buddy Johnny Stabil on the show one time
before he knows you guys know each other. I belate, right,
he told me that, yeah, and I that that he
was using baby iguanas as bait and would toss us
off the back and that seemed like the steak is
just really like there's a lot, man.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
I don't.

Speaker 25 (22:12):
Yeah, I can see that. I mean, I've there's been
guys in the past that have used uh live frogs
at night. They use like big bouf of toads, like.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
The cane toads.

Speaker 25 (22:24):
They'd hook them and you know, you catch them. The
guys would use them at live you know, at night,
using those as well, and they do real well. I
don't know, I'm not I like the artificial stuff, but
you know, I just but yeah, I've heard that. I
could definitely see it. I mean I've pulled them out
of their stomachs, that pulled the goans out of them,
So I mean, wow.

Speaker 10 (22:43):
Man, the.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
Like just cannibalistic monsters.

Speaker 24 (22:48):
Man huh yeah, and they they eat their own too, So.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
I got a very wide variety of diet.

Speaker 8 (22:57):
Corey, like what what do you what do you think
is is like the biggest one here in Florida, Like
you've caught the world record, but do you think there's.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
Ones that are even bigger than that? And what was
the world record? Again?

Speaker 25 (23:12):
The world records fifteen and a half and you know
it was a forty one inch forty one inch fish.
So I there's a I believe there is a possibility
if there is a bigger fish out there. I mean
I I think of anything it's you know, sixteen maybe
sixteen and a half. I would say, I don't know

(23:34):
if anything bigger than that, I just I don't know
if you know, anything's going to be. Uh my longest
one I've ever caught is forty two wow, and that
was a fifteen pound fish.

Speaker 9 (23:47):
But I could see it.

Speaker 25 (23:48):
I could see a sixteen or maybe a sixteen and
a half.

Speaker 3 (23:51):
I thinks of ours needs to try this technical one
day to try to catch a snake head.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
I have never caught one yet. Okay, that's all. I've
never caught one.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
Never caught one. Yeah, I got everything but a snakehead
man or a cloud knife. I might say those both
either one.

Speaker 25 (24:06):
Cloud knife, Yeah, cloud knives are you know, they're fun
fish to catch. They're they're neat, you know, they're they're
a cool fish. I they're nowhere near as you know,
like a more exciting fish than a snakehead. I just
that snakehead fishing is when you get into them, there's
there's nothing that's hard to beat that fish.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
Taste. Cloud knife fish edible. I don't think so.

Speaker 25 (24:34):
They people have eating them, they have eating them.

Speaker 10 (24:36):
I I never have.

Speaker 25 (24:38):
They I never have. I don't really what it is.
It's usually what they do is they slay them. And
then what they do is they meats like a mush
It's like mushy, noa they like they'll like scoop it
out with like they'll make like little like like uh
like meatball, you know, Patty disgusting.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
I'm gonna scoop out some some cloudfish beat Joe and
ice cream scooper a little mushy.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
It sounds disgusting. Man, You've gotta be really.

Speaker 9 (25:10):
Hard for that.

Speaker 3 (25:11):
Many listen, you can eat anything, I guess, I guess, yeah, everybody.

Speaker 25 (25:16):
I don't know I've heard guys chop them. I guess
people they take the whole fish and they chop them up,
and I don't know, I'm not sure. It's not really
something I'm interested in eating.

Speaker 3 (25:26):
So, oh, that's some mysterious white fish in the sushi restaurant, Joe.
Now we realized fish could be ground up clouds, bushy. Yeah, mushy, right,
could mushy and very strangely flav.

Speaker 24 (25:37):
But yeah, I will.

Speaker 8 (25:39):
Say snake heads are good eating. I've had that before yet.
I heard her white white meat. Man, it's actually really.

Speaker 25 (25:47):
Yeah, that's probably one of the best eating fish you
could have in fresh water down here.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
Question, there's a lot of runoff and stuff in that
fresh water canals and systems we have her Yeah, long
tainted the long term and kind of give you some issues,
like you know what they sect the sides or whatever
the hell they jest.

Speaker 24 (26:08):
I don't know, Yeah, I mean just.

Speaker 25 (26:14):
They they usually they don't hold a lot of mercury.
They've they've had tests. FWC has done tests on them
where they they don't hold as much mercury. But there
have been canals that I've caught them where they do
have a stench to them, and it's like we're not
we're not eating.

Speaker 3 (26:29):
If we do eat them, the fish got to stand
now he'll pass. Okay, Oh yeah, good idea carry listen, man,

Speaker 35 (35:02):
I guarantee you I'm the only fishing captain that got
the guard artists Gilmore.

Speaker 2 (35:10):
All right, so some of the what do you guys
been seeing it catching? Please?

Speaker 35 (35:17):
Well, man, a water's warming up. I don't know what's
going on. I don't know if summers here, if you're
getting front or not. But been catching a bunch of
little muttons. And you know, they changed the rule to
eighteen inches a couple of years ago, so so now
we let go fifty or sixty a week. There are
sixteen inches which used to be legal. But but it's okay,

(35:39):
you know, every when it goes up, I think it
just it's got to help the fishery.

Speaker 2 (35:42):
A little bit.

Speaker 11 (35:43):
So the key is just to let them go properly
and not just feed the sharks, you.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
Know right now?

Speaker 8 (35:49):
Is there a certain process too? I know people do
the uh yeah, but I don't think a lot of
people do that with muttons, do they?

Speaker 35 (35:57):
Yes, absolutely no, it's listen And for the audience, guys,
you get free sequelizers through Sea Grant Freak. All you
gotta do is there's a you go on their website,
fill out a little form, you know, and name your
firstborn child after them or something.

Speaker 11 (36:15):
But laughing, but you know it's funny.

Speaker 35 (36:18):
As a professional, they won't give them to us unless
we fill out the forms too. And I work with
Sea Grant on a lot of cool stuff. So we uh,
we've done a bunch of trips just trying to develop
new new barrow trauma devices. Yeah, listen, man, if you
don't know how to let a fish go properly, it's
like useless just to throw them in the water. Yeah,

(36:41):
So we're I'm a big I am a big deal
on that the last ten or fifteen years for sure.

Speaker 2 (36:48):
Around you know, wait, let me let me ask you
about this.

Speaker 3 (36:51):
I've heard that like a black fintuna or bonitas stuff
like that, because they're like highly pelagic.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
Now, a lot of those just die when you release them,
or is that just a myth.

Speaker 35 (37:05):
They're a different animal because they got to keep moving.
They don't get barrow trauma. They could go up or
down in the water. The barow trauma is that when
a fish lives down very deep, they're living under tremendous
pressures and when they come up, the gas is expand
But with tunas, swordfish things like that, they can regulate
that somehow. I will tell you one of the biggest

(37:26):
black fits we caught last year, My best vertical jigger,
his name is Rob Skewer, caught about a thirty two
or thirty three pounder. We were trying for golden tiles.

Speaker 11 (37:38):
He got his jigs stuck. Yes, sir, this guy is
a master fisherman. Anyway.

Speaker 35 (37:44):
Anyway, his jig sticks in the bottom out there in
the mud six hundred feet Wow.

Speaker 11 (37:49):
So he's jugger, he says. Now, man, he says, he
I know it's stuck in the mud. So he pops
that out of the mud. He gets hammered. So ten
minutes later we got a thirty.

Speaker 2 (37:59):
Two abound black insane thirty.

Speaker 36 (38:04):
The way.

Speaker 35 (38:05):
What it does is it didn't like you as to
these fish are not always where and what you think
they are. And it's, uh, it's I love it because
you know, in the day and age of everybody's thinking,
you know everything, Yeah, you know.

Speaker 11 (38:21):
It's it's it's really cool to have something new pop
up up. You know, did you get to learn from them?

Speaker 2 (38:27):
Wayne Is?

Speaker 3 (38:28):
You're a charter captain for decades, right, I mean it's
every day new day to you. You look up, just
wake up and say, I just can't person.

Speaker 35 (38:35):
You're not running listen, listen ever since it's been four
or five years that since I ran six days a week.
You know, now I just run a trip every Maw Island.
But absolutely every day, Man, I point that thing off shore,
my mind's cranking.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
Because you just never know.

Speaker 35 (38:57):
Look if you're a fisher moment, and I consider myself
a good fisher. Every time I pointed the boat offshore,
my mind's flying as to what my choices are. It's
not a bus man, You ain't a bus driver.

Speaker 2 (39:10):
Yeah, yeah, that's right.

Speaker 11 (39:12):
You got a short time to impress your customers.

Speaker 2 (39:15):
Yep.

Speaker 10 (39:17):
And and it's it's important.

Speaker 3 (39:19):
It is our job, you know, Sure, well, I know
for a fact I took my kids out on your
boats when they were very young and they had a
great time.

Speaker 2 (39:28):
Matthew was probably ten and Sean was eight. Back of
the day, go way back.

Speaker 3 (39:32):
Yeah, yeah, I'm not sure what Wayne's boat was not
at Base Side back then, it was it Hallover back then, Wayne.

Speaker 35 (39:39):
No, no, I actually ran boats at hall Over a
year many years ago when I first started, uh that,
when I hooked up with the reward Daddy kept us
on the reward for leet we did, man, we did
one hundred and something to Bahama trips, and then we
started the boat locally out of Watson Island in nineteen
eighty six.

Speaker 2 (39:58):
Okay, that's all.

Speaker 11 (40:00):
While that we went to my beach marine.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
Yeah, there you go.

Speaker 11 (40:03):
Now back to the city. Now back to We're back
to the city.

Speaker 2 (40:06):
When you bring cranking, man, you are cranking.

Speaker 3 (40:10):
So get a fish and reward fleet where kids thirteen
and under get off for free with daddy.

Speaker 11 (40:14):
Oh yes, sir, absolutely, please bring your kids.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
We go on Facebook or give you a call or
what's the best way?

Speaker 35 (40:21):
Yeah Facebook three? Or yeah Facebook's easier. You know, reward
fishing fleet, kids, let's go fishing. I just posted a
cool little video of a kid catching.

Speaker 11 (40:30):
Their first fish. No, and I'm also I'm speaking today.

Speaker 35 (40:34):
At the Boat Show and thirty about about educational programs
for kids and how to get kids starting and stuff.

Speaker 3 (40:41):
Why don't you take a break from that speech thing
and come over take my job as a boat salesman
and just bailed me up for the next few days.

Speaker 2 (40:47):
Come over, help me, Derek, I love you, But Nope,
I am honest too. Man, I'm just gonna burned down.
I'm just tired of talking out there. Man.

Speaker 35 (40:56):
Anyway, you should have been dude, you should have been
a Castaways.

Speaker 12 (41:01):
Yes.

Speaker 11 (41:03):
Yeah, that's the biggest I ever saw.

Speaker 2 (41:05):
Yeah. Right, that's all of the story. Away, We're got
to rock.

Speaker 3 (41:08):
Have a great weekend, man, I hope I see the
boat show. Okay, going underwater, Joey bloop. We don't have
that sound effect, but just bloop the man here, that's
specially could do. That's a really weak ass blo. Speaking
of that, did you hear what just came out? I know,
I know it's but uh the implosions sound. Did you

(41:31):
hear it from the uh the Titan?

Speaker 12 (41:35):
No?

Speaker 2 (41:35):
You didn't hear that.

Speaker 3 (41:36):
No, it just came out from the coast Guard. You
know what it sounded like, I'm serious. Okay, fine, he's
waiting patiently. It's bringing mind. Shall we all right, Jim
chief e, Matthew the chief assassinate.

Speaker 10 (41:50):
Yeah, yes, yes, yes, everybody good please.

Speaker 2 (41:59):
Joe is like something man, he's blowing his shell.

Speaker 36 (42:03):
Hey.

Speaker 2 (42:03):
Anyway, Jim, this week hos diving buddy.

Speaker 10 (42:06):
Great, great he Actually we were abab to get out
twice this week. Yes, yesterday was a banner day on
a legal diver, which is uh DIXI divers out of
deer fruit beach.

Speaker 9 (42:18):
Uh.

Speaker 10 (42:19):
But but they're out of the sands now. In Pompano.
We ran south to south of Love of that by
the sea, and I had my good friend Paul and
Scooter and that was great man. They threw us out
on a second reef. So here, here's the here's the deal.

(42:40):
We we love to do the eastern edge of the
second read. And then we get out there and I
was like what, I got a couple of shorts.

Speaker 23 (42:50):
That was it.

Speaker 10 (42:51):
So we started making our way in to the west side,
which is about forty feet and with you to picture
up of that big lobster, we're coming along. It's real fishy,
real nice and man, you knew the area was good.
That thing was shoote a great boy, and it was

(43:14):
Valentine's Day. But he had quite a few females in
his little honey hoole. Oh but boy, he came out.
He came out. It's like most of the big boys,
they come out. Oh man, you make that easy.

Speaker 3 (43:30):
That's a happy lobster there. But that's stud that stud
lobsters get happy. He was not king, but unfortunately he
was just caught Joe, so he's just stud.

Speaker 2 (43:38):
Days are over.

Speaker 11 (43:39):
He was the king, his study over.

Speaker 10 (43:43):
But you know he had at the time of Allentine's Day,
so that was good, yeah for you. And our second died.
We mitched it up. But he went out to the
third race on the Wall, which we've were kind of
playing out there a little bit. We did that on
Tuesday with Captain Brett, a Seafish which is up in
Boca and the top of the walls have been good

(44:08):
and that's what we got a bunch Paul and I
got a bunch of up there, and then Andy was
out in to the west of the walls. There's sort
of like these little I come count flops, just little
teeny like two three foot around things, and all of
a sudden you go, oh, there's a lobster. There's another lobster.

(44:30):
So that was really good North Drifts.

Speaker 27 (44:34):
I don't know.

Speaker 10 (44:35):
It's still seventy three seventy four chili Chili chili, you know,
for us anyway, But man visibility has been thirty four feet,
which is acceptable. No fish other than I mean, if
you want to look at hawkfish. There's absolutely a scatacular

(44:57):
amount of big males. Hogs are everywhere. Holy smoke, goalies.

Speaker 2 (45:05):
Big one.

Speaker 3 (45:06):
I'm very happy that I can't bring out the line
right through the hole. Eric, there's no brain hole rapture.
He's not shooting in Joe. Yeah, so I really listen that.
I know I'm not gonna want to encourage him, but
keeps shooting.

Speaker 2 (45:20):
You know what you're trying to say, don't go back
and slight groupers on my b are such a hypocrite.
Wow are Wow?

Speaker 10 (45:30):
We got our limit on Tuesday. You gotta limited on Friday.
Here it is the middle of February. We got another
month and a half left and we're still limiting out.
So it's been a banner banner banner season so far.
So yeah, we're we're loving, man, we're loving.

Speaker 2 (45:47):
All right.

Speaker 3 (45:48):
But you want to you want to wait real quick,
go sure, Joe, any have you seen any big snapper,
any big muttons?

Speaker 10 (45:55):
No, you know, it was Tuesday. I was on the
wall off a boca there, and I mean the snapper
were everywhere all right, but nothing suitable, nothing sutable. There
had to be a spot, had to be twenty thirty muttons,
but they're all twelve guys.

Speaker 2 (46:12):
They're small, small, very glad.

Speaker 10 (46:15):
Yeah, I haven't seen the real big muttons yet. I
mean the boys spirit one last week nineteen inches, which
is all right, you know, hey, they got to be
eighteen Uh noill ball light I think it is. Yeah, yeah, yeah, all.

Speaker 2 (46:33):
Right, but still very cool.

Speaker 10 (46:36):
You know, it's been great conditions if you can get
past the chillers.

Speaker 9 (46:39):
That's all.

Speaker 10 (46:42):
Little chili boys.

Speaker 3 (46:43):
Suck down your last breath of carbon monoxide and have
a fine week.

Speaker 10 (46:49):
Listen at the boat show, Eric, that's all kill on.

Speaker 2 (46:52):
It helped me out, Jim, wake that room for you.
Come on, man, Thanks for those lobster, Jim. I appreciate it. Yeah,
what yours?

Speaker 3 (52:38):
Go Boldly, Going Boldly, We're no mask God before the
Nautical Ventures Weekly Fisherman Show approaching here number nineteen. Wow,
by the way, this is the big boat Show weekend.
This is the big big one of the year.

Speaker 2 (52:53):
Man. This might be International Boat Show is the biggie Joe. Yeah,
today's a big day for.

Speaker 3 (52:58):
National my ad So yes, if you guys look for
something to do this weekend and bring your family kids out.
Their boats are especially priced. Nautical Adventures has their shoddy
boats all over the place.

Speaker 2 (53:08):
Gotta check them out, lots of toys. We see a
guy in an orange shirt, he's Anautical Ventures guy. Grab him,
say I want a boat. Now. That's one of those
saying exactly the same thing. That was great, Joe. We
are certainly connected at the brain. That's small brain anyway,
Sean rolls. Is he fishing today, Joe? Or is he
on land?

Speaker 12 (53:26):
Dude?

Speaker 2 (53:27):
He is on land.

Speaker 3 (53:28):
He's gonna help me tomorrow at the Bonzie Convention.

Speaker 2 (53:32):
Oh very nice. Well Sunday, another plug for your make
sure you go to Boca. They're having a big Bonzie
Convention plant show. I will be there with my tent
and my Bonze eye. Another plug. There you go, Joey, Yes,
I see Sean good on and Buddy captain.

Speaker 10 (53:50):
Do that.

Speaker 24 (53:50):
Joe, good morning. That was a long That was a
long pause, quite long. Yeah, I'm on land today, Ah, Joey.

Speaker 34 (54:00):
I know.

Speaker 2 (54:02):
So I know Sean gu this week because he's always
finding a day to get out of the water. I'm sure, Joe, right, yeah,
you never keep that up.

Speaker 24 (54:09):
I spent I did about fifteen miles in the kayak
yesterday out there, so I got my fishing in before
we got windy. Man, it was an awesome day out there.
What Yeah, yesterday I got well, this is a bad part.
I got eight bear kudah.

Speaker 2 (54:27):
Kuda. You must have so lovely.

Speaker 24 (54:29):
Yeah right, nothing great to eat to talk about. But
fortunately I still have Wahoo my fridge from last weekend.

Speaker 2 (54:37):
Oh, because wow, man.

Speaker 24 (54:40):
Right after the right after I crossed the film with
you guys last weekend, I caught to Wahoo on my boot.

Speaker 2 (54:46):
One after another, and you got him in Popino right.

Speaker 24 (54:50):
Uh, those ones are in Dania.

Speaker 3 (54:52):
Actually good guess, Joe, right off the block here right
right there by Joe, Really great guess.

Speaker 2 (54:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (54:58):
Yeah, So I mean this is on the water been
choppy all week? Shot or is it laid down a
littleit or what?

Speaker 24 (55:04):
It was blowing east all week and we had a
nice little window yesterday where it laid down, but today
it picked up. Tomorrow it's going to pick up. But
then Monday, which I happened to have off work that day,
it's wasally pretty nice.

Speaker 2 (55:16):
So Monday's fishing show.

Speaker 24 (55:19):
Okay, Yeah, there's the wahoo bits picking up.

Speaker 36 (55:23):
Man.

Speaker 24 (55:24):
The fish are starting to stack up on the recks,
so it's only a matter of weeks or months. So
it was Arracuda turning the kingfish and tuna and wahoo's
and it's springtime, man, and that's the best time of
year to fish here.

Speaker 2 (55:36):
Got straight. I asked Jimbo earlier, what do you think
of the sailfish bite so far?

Speaker 24 (55:43):
It wasn't great this year, to be honest, If ye say.

Speaker 3 (55:47):
So, canceling your tournament might have been good overall number
one that week and you were supposed to have it
it was zero.

Speaker 2 (55:55):
I wouldn't have been able to move it to Sunday
because both days were shot shot at freeze ass cold man.

Speaker 3 (56:02):
Oh good call of that with Joe seriously, but selfisher,
we're kind of scattered, so maybe it would have been
a kind of a.

Speaker 2 (56:09):
Meager turn out of it. They haven't really come down
like that. They're catching them up north, but like.

Speaker 24 (56:14):
Ju yeah, they're done decent and there's some good days
so it's not like that epic bite we had last year.
That's the thing there is one one tournament, the Buccaneer Cup,
where people are catching you know, double digit numbers of
them and they caught hundreds of fish throughout the tournament.
But other than that, it hasn't really been like this
great bite. I mean four or five six fish or

(56:34):
first place in tournaments, which you know, for those kind
of sailfish teams, that's not a lot.

Speaker 3 (56:39):
I got a key question for Sean Joe. Yeah, Sew,
you're out there to kayak, right, you have the pedal
power on the hoby. I think you're the one you have, right,
you get that mirage. Yeah, pedal system which makes change
the whole game of kayaking. Joe back, Oh yeah, using
paddles back in the day. Yeah, but if you have
to do it fifteen miles or whatever you're doing when
you get back to the shore, are you like exhausted

(57:00):
beat from all day pedaling and moving around out there?

Speaker 24 (57:04):
So as I get older, it wears me down more
and more us so I try to be healthier and healthier,
you know. Okay, the biggest thing right before I get
back to shore, you got to stop before you land,
stop for like five minutes. Just stop, just float, stretch out,
stand up, move around, because if you try to hop

(57:25):
out of that kayak when you even sitting there for
hours and hours and you go to stand up, you'll
fall right down. Really, and let me tell you everything,
You get like land sick because everybody on the beach
is watching you, and that's not one thing you want
to do.

Speaker 3 (57:38):
I'll make it your legs are turned to jello because
you're there, you using your legs and pedals so much.

Speaker 24 (57:42):
You might have they do, but it's kind of like
you get seasick, but you're on the water so much,
you get land sick and you're not used to sitting still.

Speaker 2 (57:51):
That's a great point.

Speaker 3 (57:52):
That's a weird feeling. We never talked about this before,
but that's pretty cool. Take five minutes, just chill, collect
yourself right, right, and they go land. Look at a
macho man I a grey suave as.

Speaker 8 (58:02):
Or land of your yeck right, unless you have like
a super high from catching, like you know you had
a great day and you got fish draped over you.
You know, I've had it to where I just bean
lined it in because I was so excited and then
you kind of just don't think about it.

Speaker 2 (58:17):
But on like a.

Speaker 8 (58:18):
Normal day, Sean's right, like, especially like in the end
when I was getting a little older kayak fishing. Yeah,
you get this weird. Yeah, I guess the best way
you could say it is like a land sick lands sick.

Speaker 2 (58:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (58:33):
Yeah, well, you know the show is a play b
like for Joe, he kind of bypasses it by just
using more steroids.

Speaker 2 (58:39):
Oh my god, you and.

Speaker 3 (58:41):
The he'll he'll juice up out there on the water.
But he gets towards land, he's already just like super
fired up, like Arnold, you know what I mean.

Speaker 24 (58:48):
So yeah, no, Joe's right about that good day though.
That was one of Joe's tournaments that I won, and
I knew I want it, And it was pretty rough
when we were landing and everybody's so like hold on,
hold on. I just one right on, right through the waves,
jumped out, ran up the beach, and I I was
so pumped up. You know, you don't worry about that stuff.

Speaker 2 (59:06):
It's all mental. You feel like the David Hasselhoff run.
It's just so juice.

Speaker 24 (59:10):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 3 (59:13):
Well, Sean man, you bring a strong every week and
we love it the program. I love your Instagram post.
You're whoever's doing your work, but it's done a great job.
Just to really visuals are awesome? Is editing is great?

Speaker 2 (59:22):
Wait?

Speaker 3 (59:23):
Last question though, for sure of course you've got one, Joe,
any kingfish?

Speaker 2 (59:28):
Now there's a short.

Speaker 24 (59:30):
King fish I've heard of, but I didn't catch any.

Speaker 3 (59:34):
Nice short answer Joe to your last stinger question, nombally
going like for nine minutes.

Speaker 2 (59:38):
Okay, stinger question, Sean, everygert we get, buddy, you're the
best man.

Speaker 24 (59:45):
All right, see you guys, Thanks you, But all.

Speaker 2 (59:47):

your fault. If you like to have it.

of this loves this product.

Speaker 2 (59:55):

Speaker 3 (59:57):
Right well, I'm thinking, is it's so early simple you're saying,
I'm not dialing me because my fingers don't even wait yet,
you know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (01:00:03):
Just listen, dial seventy two. At where was it? Wait, Joe,
don't not dialogether.

Speaker 3 (01:00:09):

has been done. I know we talked to Benny many
times about Aaron Rodgers' future. I keeps reading out wine
as he's staying is he going? What's the final word?

Speaker 2 (01:05:24):
Man?

Speaker 3 (01:05:25):
Is he going or staying going? He's going for sure? Yeah,
definitely going. Yeah he's gone to Miami.

Speaker 2 (01:05:32):
Can you imagine no?

Speaker 3 (01:05:34):
Or the Raiders not a chance. Oh, if that happens,
they would kick his I'm done, I know whatever, Benny
on Benny's fishing charters. Give on that brother, man. How
are you doing, Benny?

Speaker 24 (01:05:49):
How's it gone?

Speaker 1 (01:05:50):
Guys?

Speaker 40 (01:05:50):
Another day out here, just sitting at the inlet looking
at these waves, contemplating life right now.

Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
Like Benny.

Speaker 3 (01:05:58):
By the way I put this picture trip online, I've
viewed this massive grouper.

Speaker 2 (01:06:03):
Man, what was up with that fish and what happened?

Speaker 40 (01:06:08):
Yeah, that is actually my biggest grouper to date of
any species.

Speaker 2 (01:06:14):
Mystic grouper had.

Speaker 40 (01:06:15):
A scott in Bemini and had a little I've caught
some mystics there in the past, maybe like some twelve
to fifteen pounders. But on this trip today, on the
last that last trip, that picture you saw, we sent.

Speaker 2 (01:06:29):
The bait down and got a little luckier than usual
on that spot because it came up floating like a submarine.

Speaker 40 (01:06:35):
We weighed it was forty two pounds O man, A
couple of nice freezers.

Speaker 3 (01:06:40):
Grouper that was a that size, tasty Benny or is
that just two big as? They had a little couple
of worms.

Speaker 40 (01:06:46):
I know, when you're catching these deep water fish, that
fish was caught in over a thousand feet of water.

Speaker 2 (01:06:51):
Gotch So these deeper water fish that are.

Speaker 40 (01:06:53):
Down there and that significantly colder water, the meat's going
to be significantly better. Oh okay, that is uh that
a plus as opposed to catching like you know, black grouper,
red grouper. The meat is not going to be as
good on those as you will find on a mystic
just because of the environment that the fish is spends
his life in.

Speaker 2 (01:07:10):
All right, cool, So what are you guys targeting? What
do you look for today?

Speaker 40 (01:07:14):
So today we're going out wahoo fishing. I mean, we're
a couple of days off this full moon. You know,
it's a little rough out there. We didn't have no
charters to me and Captain Tyler. Figure, see if we'd
go catch a few wahoo's for the market, make a
few bucks either way.

Speaker 2 (01:07:27):
Nice.

Speaker 3 (01:07:28):
Oh see this guy a multitask. I realized that these
guys commercial fish. They go catch some fish for the market.
They have charter businesses with their clients. So you know,
you can't wear this one hat these days. But I
were like three, you were like four or five.

Speaker 40 (01:07:41):
Right, whether there's charters and no charters, we gotta make money,
and then whether there's charters and no charters.

Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
We want to stay on the fis. You can't take
a week off and go back out there.

Speaker 11 (01:07:51):
You just going out blind every time.

Speaker 3 (01:07:53):
Yeah, you always resort to some of the other captives
we have on a show who actually do these after
our night type cruises, look like four or five tourists
under pot and take him over by million in a
row and just cruise slowly at four knots.

Speaker 2 (01:08:05):
And yeah, we don't mind that. Are you do those two?
He does? Of course, that's Fit the fifth had. Joey's
worried man. He does everything.

Speaker 3 (01:08:17):
Damn Betty, that's awesome, man. So you said that's Jill
litt choppy out there. We'll look, this is kind of
kind of rough off shore. What's going on?

Speaker 22 (01:08:23):
Yeah?

Speaker 40 (01:08:24):
Yeah, picked up today. It's blowing about twenty right now.
We're looking at a solid three to five with a
few bigger ones than the direction that it's coming out
of ink and to spread him out very far, so
it'll be a little a little sporty out there founding
it all day, but we're not, so we're not worried
about it.

Speaker 3 (01:08:39):
Yeah, you starting to break him, lit me see, might
be a little further offshore, man, So I guess I'll
let you go do your thing man to hook him up.
And again, Betty's fishing charters. You'll see him all over

Speaker 10 (01:17:49):

we're pulling up to work right now.

Speaker 2 (01:17:53):

Speaker 10 (01:17:58):

Speaker 2 (01:18:05):
Hey, right, you're go.

Speaker 3 (01:18:06):

But thanks for being a fan, and we really appreciate you, buddy. Thanks,
thank you, sir. All right, all right, now we have
Johnny Stipill holding on line one patiently for us to
zip our slippers.

Speaker 2 (01:18:17):
I met him at the show. I saw Johnny guys
after working the show.

Speaker 10 (01:18:21):
All right.

Speaker 3 (01:18:21):
He's in that special little booth where he's selling a
branded you know, I know very well, am I dam yeah,
what is it?

Speaker 2 (01:18:28):
Maybe he'll bring it up years Johnny.

Speaker 3 (01:18:31):
I get I'll get arrested if I bring up I'm
not supposed to do that anyway, Johnny.

Speaker 2 (01:18:35):
Good oning to you, buddy. Hey, brother, good morning, good
morning guys.

Speaker 42 (01:18:38):
How you doing today?

Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
Well, you're ready for another big boat show day there, Johnny.

Speaker 42 (01:18:43):
Yup, last day for me. I'm going home today probably
about three o'clock.

Speaker 2 (01:18:47):
And uh, you know it's not fair.

Speaker 10 (01:18:52):
It's nice. It's nice to be able to go home.

Speaker 42 (01:18:54):
I feel bad for all the sales guys and brokers
and big companies that come out and they got to
stay for another few days with the show and then
breaking it down and all that. I get to go
back to Peacock bass Land.

Speaker 3 (01:19:09):
You know, you're making me feel even worse than what's ahead,
because I do have to go break down the booth
when it's over with job. Lots of wats of work there.
You've had five log days. Now you stay there and
break things down. Okay, it's a tough, yeah. But I
have a friend of mine that I've worked with, Ray
Clapper Junior. Okay, now I got the weird names today, Yes,

(01:19:30):
strange names. I told Ray I'd pay him whatever feed
he wants to do my job on breakdown.

Speaker 2 (01:19:35):
What do you say? You said you you got enough
money anyway.

Speaker 3 (01:19:41):
So back to fishing news, my brother, Johnny, So what's
been happening with you?

Speaker 2 (01:19:45):
What we've been doing.

Speaker 10 (01:19:47):
I'm been running some trips. Finally, you know, business is
picking up.

Speaker 42 (01:19:51):
The fishing has been pretty good. We caught quite a
few peacocks this week. Clown knife were a little finicky
for some reason. There was only a few of them
calling a bunch amongst my guide groups. But we got
plenty of peacocks, a few large mouths, and I'm no

(01:20:11):
sign of any snakeheads. But that's that'll probably come further
in the spring.

Speaker 3 (01:20:17):
Yeah, I know Corey had a great week. He's been
targeting his fish all week long. He said he was
pretty much hooked up with those wherever he has a
secret spot. Joudio, I don't know. He never told the
story fishes man. I have no idea, no clue.

Speaker 42 (01:20:29):
He's got some crazy secret spots.

Speaker 2 (01:20:33):
You and your captains. Are these secrets bad?

Speaker 10 (01:20:35):
Right?

Speaker 3 (01:20:36):
Joe Man when he's a fish with boucher. By the way,
he would say this before you ever went on a boat. Okay,
listen to you, guys. Nobody has a cell phone anywhere
near the helm station because I don't want anybody taking
my GPS coordinates. Heb keep it in your pocket because
you can't do that. Okay, bad, bad news. Pests snickers.

Speaker 2 (01:20:58):
He's going to kill you. I don't care. I don't
even buil friends with you anyway. Joyce back to you, man, Johnny.

Speaker 43 (01:21:05):
Any big peacocks, they're getting bigger, They're getting bigger. We
haven't really had any of those like five six pounders
this past week, but uh, I call them the Charter Special.
There those two and a half to three and a
half pounders and right, and they're they're big and beautiful
and they pull hard. And you know, I had a

(01:21:27):
couple of guys that were new on the boat, never
never had really fished.

Speaker 42 (01:21:31):
Much, and they were blown away by how how.

Speaker 9 (01:21:35):
Hard those peacocks pull.

Speaker 42 (01:21:38):
So just just a lot of those medium sized fish,
which is perfect for me. And yeah, I mean, we'll
we'll hopefully see.

Speaker 11 (01:21:47):
Some more of those really big breeders in.

Speaker 42 (01:21:49):
Uh in the spring as they start to spawn. We
actually did see some on beds, but they were pretty
much locked down, just holding to the beds. But hopefully
we see some big fish sitting on beds and you know,
hopefully it's a good year for breeding. They have a
bunch of you know, a little fry and that's just

(01:22:10):
kind of what keeps this whole thing going for us.

Speaker 2 (01:22:13):
Yeah, I think this heat has really has really helped
out the past week.

Speaker 42 (01:22:18):
Yeah, Yeah, it's been great because you know, it's been
so cold, and the water temperatures finally back up in
the mid seventies on Lake Ita and in the you know,
mid to low seventies in the Everglades. So hopefully if
the Everglades water level gets, you know, a little bit lower,
that place is going to be going off and it

(01:22:42):
should be a pretty good year, even despite the cold,
with a little bit of fish eye off, it should
be really good this spring if they get the water
level right.

Speaker 2 (01:22:51):
Johnny, let me let me ask you what how big
do you think the biggest peacock in Lake Ida is?
That's a big question.

Speaker 10 (01:23:00):
I don't know the biggest.

Speaker 42 (01:23:04):
The biggest one that I taught was eight over eight pounds.
It was It wasn't me, Actually it was a charter client.
She's kind of a famous Instagram girl. Her name is
Bombshell or Michelle Dalton more more known as Michelle Dalton,
but her Instagram handle his Bombshell, And she caught over
an over eight pound peacock. And you know it's funny,

(01:23:26):
is her. This is kind of a cool phishing story
she brought. You know, I have all this top of
the line shamano gear on my boat. I mean, I
just take pride in what I do. I have some
of the best stuff that you can get for chartering.
And she brings this old like ci for shimano with.

Speaker 12 (01:23:49):
Mono on it and an old, you know, an older rod.

Speaker 11 (01:23:55):
I forgot the brand of the rod.

Speaker 42 (01:23:57):
It wasn't a Glumis or anything, but and she puts
a little shot on rod in the rod holder and
just kind of forgets about it. And then all of
a sudden, I see the rod start to really like
double over and I was like, hey, Michelle, you got
a fish.

Speaker 9 (01:24:12):
You want me to rel it in.

Speaker 42 (01:24:13):
She's like, no, I'm coming, I'll get it. And it
ended up being that eight pounder and ten pound mono
we normally I fish you know, ten pound braid, which
is much stronger than mono. You know, you we got
this insane fish. We have pictures of it. It's it's
really amazing.

Speaker 12 (01:24:32):
It was.

Speaker 42 (01:24:32):
It was a really fun moment that you never think
you would need to be so technical to catch a
fish that big, and literally Rodney the rod.

Speaker 2 (01:24:42):
Holder caught it.

Speaker 3 (01:24:44):
That motto might have saved, might have saved you guys
with the fish because it's it stretches, you know what
I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:24:51):
It's got that stretches. Yeah, yeah, where the braid might
it just went oh very cool. Wow.

Speaker 3 (01:24:57):
So I'm gonna I'm gonna test Johnny real quickly. That
a little fun with this thing I brought up with
a show with the guys I met at the program, right, okay,
at the boat show. So let me see if we
say this name, because you can't even get it close right,
fun fun, Let me have a repeat his name, Johnny,
Bob van Vollenhoven, Bob van vollenhol He got it right,

(01:25:19):
the first type out way, Yeah, Bob van Vollenhoven. He's
in the stingray booth. He's a big guy, but he's Vollenhoven.
And then Lovelace love Lace. It's like a porn team.
I don't know what you call him, but he's trying
to bring new porn porn steid there. Anyway, he got
it right. I'm gonna give Johnny a free start by
bucket for that. Okay, really yeah he got van Voldenhoven. Okay, okay,

(01:25:39):
you sure, yeah sure, And I'll actually probably bring it
to the boat show. I'll give it him personally about that,
all right, all right, yeah, anyway, Johnny, So the water's
warm it up, thank gosh, man, it's not that chili
willy stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:25:51):
Fisially gonna get better? Is that warm water keeps coming in?

Speaker 42 (01:25:54):
Yeah, I mean all the exotics. The warmer the water,
the happier they're going to be. So as we get
into spring, hopefully we don't get any more crazy cold
fronts and it should be a really good season. I mean,
I'm hopeful that we the business end keeps kind of
picking up there for us, which is a big factor

(01:26:15):
to having a business on the water. And if that happens,
then the fish cooperate. I mean, it could be a
magical year.

Speaker 2 (01:26:24):
And it's been picking up right lately.

Speaker 10 (01:26:27):
It's been picking up.

Speaker 40 (01:26:28):
No.

Speaker 42 (01:26:28):
I was talking to Eric yesterday. You know, doing businesses
is tricky. There's a lot of competition. I've started to
do some different avenues of advertising, Google, Yelp, all that.
But we're just we're giving it are all, you know,
and trying to make this thing work. I've been been

(01:26:48):
guiding full time since twenty nineteen, or actually twenty.

Speaker 10 (01:26:51):
Eighteen, and.

Speaker 42 (01:26:54):
You know, just want to try to keep getting it
in line for the future years. You know, I don't
want to just have it be a short term thing
for me. I want it to be a long term thing.

Speaker 2 (01:27:07):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:27:08):
He's brought a great point out to me, Joe, that
a lot of guys out there kind of screwed up
his world of chartering because you get, like we're talking
about some retired rich guy, some banker guy, right right.
So he's put his time and he's got all these
millions of dollars they've saved up, so he goes out
and buy some badass boat, right right. And besides, he
wants to all of a sudden become a boat charter
captain just because he thinks he can.

Speaker 2 (01:27:30):
I see that a lot. Yeah, okay.

Speaker 3 (01:27:31):
And he's just kind of chipping away at his clientele
because he's offering a trip for like one third of
what a normal they would be. And Johnny's remember he
has to pay for gas, fuel, maintenance, bait, whatever else.
There's a lot of over there insurance, you know whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:27:47):
Man.

Speaker 3 (01:27:47):
And you know what those rich guys do, right, They
hire they either hire their own captain that they pay
him like nothing to do it, or that it's their son,
and they say and they give it to the sun
to do it, and just chipping away at his business.
I think it's so wrong, man, So go with the
guys with the cred. Man has been around for a
long time. Still a young man, he's been doing this

(01:28:08):
for a long time. And the guy's got major, major cred.
It's worth every dime, which he still, by the way,
reasonably charges, I might add, of course, with any So listen,
my brother, I'm gonna go home after the show, and
quickly changed Johnny, I'll get to my Oh, he made
a compliment to me, by the way, show made a compliment.
I walked up, he goes, He goes, Eric, you look

(01:28:29):
really dashing.

Speaker 2 (01:28:29):
Man. He goes, you're really you really represents you. Look
you really represent you. You're dressed like a like a star.
Still on the phone, I think he said that. Ask him, Johnny, Oh, yeah,
it's it's it's true.

Speaker 42 (01:28:41):
I I gave Eric an ice compliment, maybe exactly in
those words, but I did give a nice compliment.

Speaker 3 (01:28:47):
I think you said like you look like you look
and sharp, dude, pretty sharp? Yeah, not even dad, but whatever,
make it make it up. He's just trying to like
make you happy. Thank you, Johnny, have a great week
and I'll see the show later on my friend Johnny.

Speaker 10 (01:29:01):
Yes, sir, see you guys.

Speaker 3 (01:29:04):
Van Vollenhoven, Van you screwed up wrapp report. Okay, get

Speaker 3 (01:37:55):
I'm not going to tell you her to take her

and it looked like a damn big fish. I'd say
it was forty something pounds. You know you're a camera,
by the way, I got you got something bit me?
You got your fingers deep in your right armpit. That
is just disgusting.

Speaker 2 (01:38:11):
Something bit me. It's like you would you stand up
when you were scratching your crotch. I mean you have
to do on camera? Yes, this a visual show.

Speaker 1 (01:38:19):
It hurt.

Speaker 2 (01:38:20):
Don't scratch your privates on camera. What do you want

man scratch you. You'd be like, oh, just go touch
your pet. U just don't be scratched. The stuff live
on a Facebook.

Speaker 8 (01:38:41):
Wait, this is coming from someone that bleeds all over
the place on the show and post it on social media.

Speaker 2 (01:38:50):
I'm looking for sympathy your baby, thanks so much.

Speaker 29 (01:38:58):
I cannot stand that thing where because I hear myself
talk and I don't know what it is. But I
don't ever listen to myself talk. So that rainbird.

Speaker 1 (01:39:09):
But I'm back.

Speaker 29 (01:39:10):
But yes, Eric, you need bubble rap I do.

Speaker 2 (01:39:14):

Speaker 3 (01:39:15):

Speaker 29 (01:39:24):
Somebody wants to get rid of his raccoons.

Speaker 3 (01:39:26):
Oh well, I want to get no chance of a
girlfriend with that kind of a thing on line, get
off back on you.

Speaker 2 (01:39:33):
How's the keys fishing? I saw wahoo photo this week.

Speaker 29 (01:39:36):
Ye right, Yeah, I've been a little obsessed lately with them,
so I've been.

Speaker 9 (01:39:43):
Uh.

Speaker 29 (01:39:43):
I caught one two days ago, yes, two days ago, yesterday,
get two days ago. And it was rough. I was
in the twenty four foot center console. It was probably
three to five. It was really really rough. I had
to use the planer rod this time. So you know,
that's a little tool for you guys A lot who
liked to bite on. They like calm seas when they're

(01:40:06):
when they're eating for the high speed luyers. When you
have seas like that and your your lawyers won't stay
in the water or they're not gonna go, or you
can't go. You're you're miles an hour that you need
to your knots that you need to I drop down
and I use my planar rid and I get playing.
And that was a planar bite, which was really cool
because you're sitting there and you know, I'm I'm trolling

(01:40:27):
probably five to six knots and it's a little bit
better and rougher seas. So that was a pretty down bite.
And then Monday I'm gonna go back and uh, it
looks like our weather's pretty good for our high speed
troll out on the reef, So go back on Monday
and see how it goes.

Speaker 2 (01:40:44):
Is that a size four or five? Your cap? Good question?

Speaker 29 (01:40:49):
Uh just depends. That was a three?

Speaker 25 (01:40:52):
So yeah, and a skirt?

Speaker 2 (01:40:55):
Did you use any skirt? And what color I use?

Speaker 29 (01:40:59):
Yes? I use a lot right now of pink and
blue and white. And also when I'm on a planar bike,
I always have to have the bait behind the lures.
So you know that's your difference on high speed because
with high speed you're going to wash that bait out.
So make sure that you know if you're if you're
running flow speeds, you can put a bait behind it.

(01:41:20):
If not, you got to live. Leave that bait off.
But fishing has been pretty good over here.

Speaker 2 (01:41:25):
I tail captain dead. Wait what was the color again
that you said it went out? Joe? All it went out?
I didn't hear I heard it clear.

Speaker 29 (01:41:35):
You heard the echo this time?

Speaker 2 (01:41:37):
Joe.

Speaker 29 (01:41:38):
There's you know, there's a thing that we used to
use in North Carolina when I was a freshwater fisherman
and a saltwater fishermen and it's it's a thing called
match the hatch. Right now, we have banita everywhere on
the on the reefs, So what color of banita? They're
red and black, they're blue and white, and the pink
actually changed colors at a certain day to use pink

(01:42:01):
a lot as well. Those are your colors when you're here.
I use green, just all kinds of whatever bait fish
they're eating is whatever bluer color I'm.

Speaker 3 (01:42:11):
Pulling, say, mass the hatch, so Joe, But I mean,
I've never seen a pink bait fish of any kind
of my entire life.

Speaker 2 (01:42:17):
You haven't. I've never seen a.

Speaker 29 (01:42:20):
Snapper. You've never seen anything like that. It's pink.

Speaker 2 (01:42:23):
I've never seen a pink fish death unless I'm really hammered. Okay, seriously,
that might Okay.

Speaker 29 (01:42:31):
It's it's the way they're pulled in the water. It's
it's the way that they're it's the way that they
put off, you know, different different colors and get the
fish's attention. You're not trying to get that fish to
eat that bait. You're trying to get that fish to
attack that bait, right, So you know that's that's the
whole big difference. Is either you're gonna trick them and

(01:42:52):
make them mad, or you're gonna make them where they
want to eat. So but out on the reef, you know,
we've been doing pret good. I've been catching some hammer
yellow tail, like really like big, like twenty one inch
yellow tail out inch fifty six feet water. So you
know there are fish here. We've been having a good yellowjack,

(01:43:15):
you know, bite right now, We've got mutty snappers. So
the resone fire up here in Key Largo. But you know,
certain certain like the moon has really made fish kind
of go away for a little while. So you know,
it's been it's been okay this week, but it's not
been the greatest.

Speaker 3 (01:43:32):
Let's just say that I think bottom fishing in general
has been really good. Yeah, hey, real quick, on a stream,
I saw something guy named Greg ray be goes love
Captain deb Hello, y'all from Texas.

Speaker 2 (01:43:46):

a thing met I met?

aqua zone ties. Don't also forget that we've got ghost
cycles that you could buy right there on the spot
to help you get around town and not have to
worry about all of the crazy traffic that's going on
right now, because, let me tell you, it takes.

Speaker 16 (01:51:17):

(01:52:03):
our great friend here a terrific job.

Speaker 2 (01:52:05):

the guy who's slumped over his chair with red eyes
and drool coming out of his chin.

the electric boats that doncle Winch is actually pitching. They
got this whole electric line going on. You have the
axle pars, which is their bread and butter out there.
I might add, okay boats in the water to the
demo as well. Lots of just sight span. It's a
lot of people just kicking tires and taking names. I
don't think the economy has changed enough right after we're

(01:52:48):
actually ready to sprink for that big ticket. Yet they're
kind of like looking maybe maybe a couple of months
they may buy, so it's kind of like a preview
of what they may buy later.

shows up who's got a bag from like let's see whatever,
picks up a free the free boat show bad. Yeah,
and it's loaded with all kinds of free chotski stuff
that they're layout of the tables right. If he walks
them to a boat, he's not buying a boat that
doune ain't buy nothing.

Speaker 2 (01:53:20):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (01:53:21):
Now the guy walks up dressed kind of shabby with
his hands in his pocket. He's usually a multi millionaire
who comes like in incognito and he's spot in that boat.

Speaker 2 (01:53:31):
If he likes it, he'll buy the boat. I got
involved figured out, man, right, So you got the whole science.
