Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're on board the Nautical Ventures Weekly Fisherman Show with
legendary fisherman Eric Brandon, an extreme angler Joe Hector, powered
by Mercury Marine.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Go boldly, let's go fish, Let's make day our Good
morning to you, Joey square Pants.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
What do you say you grabby? Okay, tasty krabby patty
s every morning? Off on the right way there. I'm
kind of hungry for a krabby petty, you know, prabby guy.
What's a prebby petty or hERG it's a SpongeBob reference
you got that? Huh? Was that a krabby patty or
crappy patty?

Speaker 4 (00:41):
Ya?

Speaker 3 (00:41):
It was you the one. Thank you very much. That's
good good, Thank you very much. Mat Yeah, SpongeBob, Joe,
sponge Joe SquarePants. I like that, sponge Joe SquarePants.

Speaker 5 (00:51):
Sure?

Speaker 6 (00:51):
Am I annoying like SpongeBob.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
You are extremely annoying. Man Like times ten. Back in
nine forty we have Carlos flogging the ship today Carlos
and for Jeff and hide a crazy man, Stephen J. Grew.
Are you guys reeling this morning? Really good? We wrapped
up five days the Boat Show five They have long
good days out there, and I was quite successful. Donicle
Venters just did amazingly well. The number one dealership in

(01:16):
the US A I might add America America came through strong.
Roger Morris team was out there just busting their chip chops.

Speaker 6 (01:25):
How was your birthday?

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Well, I didn't get past the Donicle Ventris party. Sorry, sorry,
they pay the bills. I was getting excited my birthday.
I'll pay the bills. They pay the bill here, Okay.
So the big part of that exceptionally well. They moved
the Axe of Pars and all the other brands they
had the water toys. And by the way, something very
cool happened on the show this week. Tell me kat Haley,
who does our toy chest segment, put a text out
to all of us that her friend she works with

(01:49):
in that division the kayaks and canoes and all the
good stuff they saw. Yes, because of the show, She's
had all these people come in to the store and say, Hey,
kat Heley, I saw you the Dounicle Venture's week Fisherman show,
and I want to buy a kayak because of her press.
It's the the enormous amount of volume is gone up

(02:10):
this awesome despite you and I yes, spite us. So
for the next two hours we'll just run Kat Haley.
We probably should. Anyway, I did talk to this man
last night briefly, as you know, Joe, Jimbo. The mantapas
is what he the lie never won you want to
do with the famous.

Speaker 6 (02:27):
Does Jimbo know that you recorded your conversation.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
With I did not record a conversations on my phone app? Okay, anyway,
would you bring here? Yeah, he's listening. Bring your mind?
Man is rocket?

Speaker 6 (02:40):
Hey, Jimbo?

Speaker 3 (02:42):
How you doing?

Speaker 7 (02:43):
That?

Speaker 8 (02:43):
Was great?

Speaker 5 (02:44):
Joe jim are you guys doing?

Speaker 3 (02:48):
What's up? Mister? Why are you recording his conversation without
him knowing?

Speaker 9 (02:52):
No?

Speaker 6 (02:52):
I didn't say that that.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
Was that whatever.

Speaker 5 (02:54):
He's just forging permission to record anything yet that I say,
I don't care. I got nothing to hide.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
It's showing us Royd's man. Don't worry about jo Chad
last I had a happy chat about a few things
he was enjoying, budwives and number six.

Speaker 5 (03:10):
Okay, all right, and you still how do you know
that you've been spying on me too?

Speaker 3 (03:18):
We have to find out what you're doing, jim was
that Germany that was really bad back? On White Master
Fishing Show, Jimo, What the heck has been biting out
there on the waters, buddy.

Speaker 5 (03:32):
So it definitely has picked up fishing wise this week,
although yesterday and today we got a little breeze. We
had really nice weather throughout the week though. Uh, sailfish
action has picked up drastically. Yesterday was red hot from
Minmy to Palm Beach. Uh. There was boats. There's a

(03:53):
big tournament going on. I'm not partaking in the tournament,
but I have been fishing. I think top boat in
the tournament caught roughly forty five sailfish yesterday, just in
one day. There we go, So that's psych epic as
good as it gets. There's guys that are in tenth
place that have twenty five. So it was just spectacular

(04:18):
salefish action yesterday. I suspect it to be some of
that the same today now. Yesterday that most of those
salefish were caught up north like a Boca Palm Beach,
say Fort Lauderdale north, So hopefully some of those fish
will be down a little closer to the Miami area,
although there was bosts of the Miami area that did

(04:40):
really well. Also, personally, I'd rather catch a big tuna
or a lahoo or something other than a or other
than twenty five salefish if I'm not a tournament. So
there have been a few tunas around. They like running
body means, but there's been tuna is caught every day,

(05:01):
and the size is getting a little better. They're not
the football size, are more like fifteen to eighteen pounders,
and I'm sure there's been a couple of larger ones
mixed in, so they're all being caught on live bait,
or most all the big ones at least are being
caught on live bait. And then there's been a few
decent kings mixed in and not much in the way

(05:22):
of dolphin. But again, unless everything's being caught on live bait,
because everybody's live bait fishing, there's not too many boats
out there trolling, so live bait anywhere from about one
hundred to two hundred and fifty feet of water, so
wherever you can find some blue water in north current,
that's where it's going to be the best. And we've

(05:43):
had that blue water in the north Current pretty consistently
this week, so that's another reason why the fishing has
really gotten good. So I look forward to getting out
there today. I'm almost to the boat right now, and
then we're going to go catch our live baits and
then go put up our kites. We're gonna get out
on the edge, see see what the water looks like,

(06:04):
and determine if we got to go north or south
till we find good water. But hopefully right out in
front it's gonna be good like it has been, and
put our kites up and catch whatever the heck swims
by basically. And also, Joe, there's been a couple of
wa who's caught? I know you love to hear that.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Oh yeah, yeah, buddy. So here you see, hey, sponge
Joe that they were sure, go ahead, there we have time.
Sponge Joe, is your name of Krabby Crab? There you go, man, Okay,

(06:42):
I'll take it. Okay, So Jimbo, Yes, good Joe.

Speaker 6 (06:49):
How deep were that?

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Oh my god? What a surprise? Wow. So the.

Speaker 5 (06:54):
Few while who's that I'm aware of that have been
caught have been caught on live baits? Wow? Again, not
many boats, not many boats trolling now, I'm sure up
in the Hillsboro Paperlo Beach area there's been some caught trolling,
because those guys just do a lot more trolling than
we do down here in Miami. But they've been caught

(07:15):
on live baits in the same desk we've been catching
our sails and our kings. So figure one hundred and
twenty to two hundred feet of water one of the issues.
It's not even an issue. Most of us don't fishing
the wire leader, so I'm sure there's been a lot
more wahoo bites than catches because of cutoffs, and a

(07:36):
number of the ones that have been caught have been
caught without any wire leader. But we are using a
circle hook, so you do get lucky occasionally catch one
with a circle hook right in the corner of the
mouth where he's not going to cut you off.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
Yeah, about to appease sponge, Joe, do you ever use
lures that are like pink in color? Is that curiosity?

Speaker 5 (08:00):
Using a pink sea witch quite often in front of
my Beanita.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
St I'm trying to put Joe, Wow, I'm trying to
just really show you some love today. Bro Okay, just
at all about you today? Okay? Really? Yeah, I want
to show your new year off with a very look out.
This is a setup I know, well, you know what,
so I know what Eric's doing here.

Speaker 10 (08:19):
So he's deflecting because he just had a birthday and
he doesn't want to talk about it.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
But I'm like, real old, but.

Speaker 6 (08:26):
I want to talk about it, and jim Bo wants to.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
Way, we don't have time for that, Joe, we don't
have time. So tell us we don't have time for
this was your birthday? Totally a total bummer. Okay, you're
spot on, Joe, spot on, Joe. I turned that magic
number sixty nine. By the way, I know that should
be fun.

Speaker 11 (08:44):
Huge.

Speaker 6 (08:47):
You are like the coolest age right now?

Speaker 3 (08:49):
Yeah? Really yes, well because of the position you mean, Oh.

Speaker 5 (08:56):
No, I think just because you're lucky to you're happy
to be alive at that age, you know.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Jim Dinosaur, there you go, right, I'm just lucky to
be alive. That's exactly right.

Speaker 6 (09:08):
Yeah, Jimo is just on with everything.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
He's number one to shoot, he's number one every weekend
because ain'ty'll make a week that man when it comes
to come back. So it's true, Jim, I have a
five flipping day man.

Speaker 5 (09:20):
Okay, buddy boy, I will do and hopefully we'll have
a great report for you. All next next Saturday, and
be safe and good luck fishing everybody.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Jimbo, real quick, real quick.

Speaker 6 (09:32):
Yeah, how's the bottom fishing?

Speaker 3 (09:34):
Is it still good?

Speaker 7 (09:35):
What?

Speaker 12 (09:36):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (09:37):
Well, nobody's really been messing with that. First off, we
can't keep any groupers right now with the season closed.
You know you got a chance in a month, snapper.
I did do my mont and snapper patrolling one day
last week. I think it might have even been last Saturday.
You got big ones, right, maybe Monday? It was actually

(09:58):
this past Monday, And no they're not. We call it
one little one. So it's it's kind of like the
end of the season, at least for how I catch them.
There's still plenty of mutton snappers out there, because I
know I didn't catch them all. But the way I
like the troll forum is like November, December, January, and

(10:19):
we're not seeing as many ballely who's up on the reef.
Therefore there's not as many snappers up there chasing those
valley who's now. That could change in the next few days,
but it's about the end of how I like to
fishwork now the deeper water.

Speaker 13 (10:35):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (10:35):
There have been some muttons caught on live bait or
cut bait. But that's I just haven't been messing with that.
You see, Joe some.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
Show prep like I do. Actually, instead of saying there's
a lot you cost a large grouper, which he did not,
he would have told you in a phone call show
prep wise that he had not caught any large grouper
and he just told you know they were small.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
Don't wanted that large groupers right now because you gotta
let them go?

Speaker 6 (11:05):
Yeah, Eric, So if you did some shout rap, then
you actually would have known.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
That you can't the Witch of the west Man.

Speaker 5 (11:15):
No, he sounded like somebody else that was on this show.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
Why do you have to have to know what what
fish were caught?

Speaker 14 (11:22):
It doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
He's going to tell you what prappic for the fishing show?

Speaker 15 (11:26):
Why do these always Why did whenever you do this
at backfires on you? You notice that, Like, I'm not backfired,
I'm totally go an a point man. Remember the Johnny
Jakes one. Yeah, you make the effort and call some captains, okay.

Speaker 6 (11:38):
Yeah, Like when you put you know, like a live
bait on a jig, you know well.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
That I can't live That was pretty stupid. I might
have the doublest thing I said in twenty twenty four.
Oh no, there's some other things. Jim. They don't pay
me enough to put up with this harassment. Dude, I
wish you would swap places. You'd always befires anyway, Jim,
catch them up man, tight on the flyery, Jimbo.

Speaker 5 (12:02):
Alrighty, you got it, guys, Good luck everybody.

Speaker 3 (12:06):

Speaker 3 (17:03):
Man?

Speaker 6 (17:04):
Is that world record?

Speaker 3 (17:05):
I don't know right, I'm.

Speaker 26 (17:07):
Gonna ask you know you like.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
Prep id have to change your voice like that? Can
you say the words show prep?

Speaker 6 (17:15):
I don't sound like you.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
It was like if I sund like cow prap, I
wouldn't be radio believe you. Okay, I'd be kind of
coupons'd be kind of coupons on my count? Even does
it better? Whatever? Corey? How are you, buddy?

Speaker 24 (17:28):
Boy?

Speaker 27 (17:31):
Doing well?

Speaker 3 (17:31):
Guys? How are you doing? We're just fighting like listen,
don't listen to us, Corey, please make it all man anyway? Yeah,
how's how's your fishing beds? Snakeheads? Peacocks? Was going on? Buddy?

Speaker 27 (17:43):
Uh, it's well for for both peacocks and snakehead. That's
very good. This past week before the I have a
fish before or I have a fish after this front,
But before it it was it was really good. It
was another one day fished. It was got peacocks and snakeheads.
You got about twenty peacocks. Biggest was six pounds and

(18:08):
we got thirty five snakeheads. Biggest was seven pounds.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
Five seven pounds man thirty five.

Speaker 27 (18:15):
Yeah, I mean we didn't get anything, nothing really big big,
but just there was.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
A lot of me that's big.

Speaker 27 (18:21):
Yeah, I mean it was, but it was just a
lot of fish. It was the peacocks that was that
was good. We got six pounds, another one, five and
a half, a couple of five. So in our world,
those are big, big peacocks. Buddy, Yes, you know six pounds, Yeah,
six pounds is a that's a hell of fish.

Speaker 10 (18:40):
People, So people understand. So a lot of people really don't.
When they catch peacock bass. They they look at them
and they think like, one, that's like howld am I
holding out?

Speaker 6 (18:52):
Like how big is that?

Speaker 3 (18:53):
If you check them and hold them out towards the camera,
they look huge.

Speaker 10 (18:57):
But we were so in our last tournament, for instance,
we had guys weighing them like right in front of him.

Speaker 6 (19:02):
That's what we do on the on the assistant boats,
right Corey.

Speaker 10 (19:05):
And they would be like, oh, that's gotta be uh,
you know, a five pounder and they would weigh it
and it'd be like two and a half. Like they
just idea how much these things weigh. So like a
huge peacock to somebody is like three four pounds.

Speaker 3 (19:23):
They think not at his forehead. Man just adds weight
to him huge.

Speaker 27 (19:26):
Yeah, when they get really big, you just when they
they started getting real big, they start like widening. They
don't get like super they get along, but the body
like widens out, so they get more like topha. It's
kind of like a mailbox, kind of looks.

Speaker 6 (19:40):
Like almost like a bell mahi kind of you know what?

Speaker 3 (19:43):
Yeah, can I just change for a second. Put on
something last weekend? It I thought it was very ingeniously crazy.
I never heard about it. Using crawdads for snakeheads. Yeah,
remember we're talking about this.

Speaker 5 (19:54):
That video is going up.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
Actually yeah, yeah, the pictures and the crud ads he
said are just snakehead candy. Man. Oh god, he just
said that. Jesus Eric I screwed up man. Yeah, Shelly,
it stricked out twenty five. We're still talking like we
didn't do you crap one. It strick down twenty five.

(20:18):
We're talking like an it's three head joint bunch of
past fright crawdad.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
It ware.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
Yeah, there's a fried crowd there. You got krabby patty
while we're right there. Enjoy Yeah, shoe SquarePants. Anyway, about
that Corey interruption, I apologize about that. No sorry, man.
He said, either a rubber crawdad or a live crawdad.
They jump on him.

Speaker 27 (20:41):
Huh yeah, yeah, Like I said, only these at A
lot of the live stuff they'll go hit that, but
artificial stuff build like get them all the time.

Speaker 5 (20:50):
On that.

Speaker 27 (20:51):
It was actually finding. It was another day of fish
where was mostly just snakeheads, and we got about I
got about twenty one and the biggest was eleven pounds.
Got a ten nine and two eighths and eleven pounder
at the end of the day was on that rubber crowdhead.

Speaker 10 (21:10):
So it was so, what's your what's your favorite go
to lore for peacocks like big ones.

Speaker 27 (21:20):
Mostly so there's a there's a lucky craft pointer. It's
a it's a jerk bait. It's it's an expensive lure.
It's like fifteen dollars apiece. But they're very they they
hold up very well. They you can I've slammed them
off bridge pilings by you know cast in and you know,
put them through some abuse and they you know, they

(21:41):
they last a long time. But they got some really
good action. There's a couple of different models and they
got there's a deep diver and then there's you know
a couple of shallow runners. But they're very good. They
they got very good you know coloration on them. They
just they hold up very well. And they that seems
to work really good, you know, getting bigger peak cock.

Speaker 4 (22:01):
A jig probably.

Speaker 27 (22:05):
Like it's they call it Aurora black. It's like a
blue holographic like looking bait. It's kind of got a shine,
so it's kind of got like a shad pattern to it.
Huh So that works really good.

Speaker 3 (22:16):
Tell my lawyers, O John Corey back in the day, Joe,
ten years ago, you lose a lower probably cost you
two bucks. You're not too bad with it, right, These
lawyers are going for fifteen, seventeen, twenty bucks apiece. Man,
Now you lose one, I lose one, and I lose
my cookies. Man, big time. I go into a Brandon
brain fade big time. Yeah, yeah, you definitely.

Speaker 27 (22:36):
Don't know it is no no, I mean even the
old school for polos, the balsa wood ones that you know,
the original floating one. I mean those things are like
twelve dollars a piece ounce right inane balsa.

Speaker 3 (22:48):
Would be balsa would gone up? Or what the hell
is the problem with these? Yeah, I know, thing's going.

Speaker 27 (22:54):
Up in the dice And those things were great too,
But the problem is the bills come off real easy
to the glue they use. I guess they just want
you to buy more of them at some point.

Speaker 10 (23:02):
But I think too, honestly, like, I think why they're
rising in price is because they're more intricate too.

Speaker 6 (23:08):
Like you look at a Lore back in like you know,
nineteen sixty right Eric, Huh? Then no, I wasn't even.

Speaker 10 (23:18):
You were, but go ahead, definitely so by the way, Corey,
Eric sixty nine, he just had his birthday, Get over it. No,
I just feel like if you look at like a
Lord and you could pare it an old one from
the eighties or whatever, to now, they're just so much
more intricate, the painting, the parts to these lures, all
the different little little gadgets. So yeah, I you know,

(23:41):
I could see why they're more But again, you don't.
I feel like there's that equilibrium.

Speaker 6 (23:46):
Where how high are you actually going to price these things?
Like what's the limit?

Speaker 3 (23:50):
That's really funny, Yeah, pitch to be a sponsor in
a program and that ain't gonna happen now because we
just said their lips fall off. So that's well, that's bull.

Speaker 27 (24:04):
That's the ball to Yeah, most of like the ex raps,
they hold up pretty good.

Speaker 3 (24:08):
But brought by wrap, that's what damn sure gonna happen.
You just said X rap, We're good. Okay, I'll pitch
that wrap. Yeah, yeah, there you go. Okay. Anyway, Corey,
So some hot canals you want to talk about the
lake or canals or what's been popping.

Speaker 27 (24:23):
A lot of Well I had that day with the
peacocks that was over in Plantations, A lot of those
canals that run through the residential areas over there five
ninety five. That's what I caught a lot of those
peacocks and uh and the snakeheads. And then up in
Deerfield is where I got a lot of those snakeheads
last week too, that one day. So that's okay, Oh

(24:47):
yeah yeah, so there. I mean it's probably gonna slow
down a little bit with the cold. It's it's not
cold for long. It'll probably slow up a little bit,
but it shouldn't get it too crazy, so it should
continue to pop.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
But once you keep.

Speaker 27 (25:01):
Getting a little warmth, so it should stay good.

Speaker 10 (25:04):
Have you ever at that that huge lake in Deerfield
by it's right by Dixie Highway and it's you know,
the big dump yard with the.

Speaker 6 (25:16):
It's like a landfill, and next to it is this
huge lake.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
Is that sample world that you're talking about?

Speaker 5 (25:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (25:22):
Sample?

Speaker 14 (25:22):
Oh you mean like crystal Crystal Lake.

Speaker 6 (25:25):
I think this crystal lake, right, is it?

Speaker 3 (25:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 27 (25:27):
The one by like the tracks over there by sample?

Speaker 3 (25:30):
Yes, yeah, fish that.

Speaker 27 (25:32):
One, Yeah, I know I have. I have fish that
many of times. Just there's there are a wakeboard there's
a wakeboard boat school in there. Yes, so you gotta
kind of watch because they are they bill. You can
fish in there, but you gotta watch they wake you out.
But I've caught a lot of snake heads in there.
I've caught a lot of large.

Speaker 6 (25:49):
Mouths there are in there, big ones in there.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
Yeah. Oh yeah about lake I have there the other
place to fish. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

Speaker 10 (25:57):
Yeah, it's good to talk about like these other spots
for people to go to, and they're and they're big
lakes like this lake I'm talking about it's deep, man.

Speaker 27 (26:05):
Like really Yeah, there's sixty foot holes in that lake.

Speaker 6 (26:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (26:10):
Yeah. Before are good friend Alan's Rubber left the show,
we still never found out about the secret lake and
where the hell it really is. We never got out
of a year and a half talking about it and
not find a secret lake. Maybe, Corey, what.

Speaker 6 (26:24):
Like when you fish Boca, what's like your top two lakes?

Speaker 3 (26:28):
Oh, here we go. Yeah, I don't.

Speaker 27 (26:33):
I don't really fish lake. It's that's definitely not one
of them, because I'm tired of all the ten thousand
guides that are on that place and all the dwakeboard
boats and there jet skiers and all that. No, I
fish a lot of the canals. I fish a lot
of the canals west of it, So it's a lot
of the like they run along the turnpike and you
go up even further north. I go up to like Wellington,

(26:56):
so I go up to a lot of those areas
well Boca. It's a lot of those canals west of
the IDAs, so it's all along the turn bike and
they run east and West and that's.

Speaker 4 (27:05):
What I fish a lot.

Speaker 5 (27:07):
Cory.

Speaker 3 (27:07):
You bring it strong man. You've been great on the show.

to contact you to fish and catch one of those
beast snakeheads.

Speaker 26 (27:28):

Man.

Speaker 3 (34:09):
You bring every weekend.

Speaker 40 (34:12):
So yes, good morning, Good morning Wayne.

Speaker 3 (34:14):
How's we work for you? Doing what's been biting this week?
Buddy boy?

Speaker 40 (34:17):
Well, we got one boat in the ship yard. We
kind of last couple of months. We have inspections, so
you know, federal government comes in and checks every screw
and every line, and all that other cool stuff and
it's all good. So pretty much been flying through all
that stuff, which is important. It's maintenance. You know, you
got to carry your boats. And it's nice to government.

(34:39):
It really is nice. The government oversees this because you know,
let's face it, uh, you know, they got a license
you for carrying people. You know, it's like it's funny.
You can have a charter boat and they could never
check you for anything. Yeah, you got requirements, but it's like, eh,
but that's six people. But if you have a boat
that you carry seven or more, you got coast Guard inspections,
you got haul inspect and you got safety inspections.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
So so you know, it's it's okay to kill six
but not seven. So you know what I do I have.
I do have my six pack captain's license. Okay, I
can't charter of those six people one time on. I
can do that if I want to, but I don't
have time to do that, so I just have it
because it's nice. Yeah, and I never got so much
to st now I usually want to. I'm on boat test,

(35:23):
ye ll take place. I want to kill sill, So
all right, my turn? So kind of fish you catch
the catches.

Speaker 40 (35:32):
We you know what, the shrimp started moving, and the
shrimp have started moving. We're still catching some a few kings,
but even the benitas were catching are full of shrimp.
So it makes fishing tough on us. You know, we
fish a lot of dead bait. We fish live baits too.
We got a live walls full of pilchers. If we
can do it every day, we'll kite fish, we shark
fish and all kinds of stuff. But as far as

(35:53):
having strong action, not right now, not right now too much.
But there's some things that are fun. So one of
the things we've been doing is even when we do
kitefish off the party boat, fished on all kind of
boat you're on, and putting up a shark bait, you
can wait anymore. The sail fishing is is not to me.
It's not as consistent, you know, and it's gotten worse.

(36:14):
I'm not I don't know why I got to talk
to the biologists about this. I don't even know if
do any studies on it, but it seems to seems
to have changed quite a bit. But anyway, put a
shark bait up on a kite. A lot of guys
don't know that. You know a lot of the guys
think you just put up six six live baits on
the surface and you're doing something, but you're missing Oh yeah, oh,
you got no idea how much fun it is. You
got no idea how much fun it is. You take

(36:36):
a blue listen man, listen man, You hang a blue.
You take a blue runner, let's say, or a two
pound pan ea to one pound pany. You just take
a big circle hook through his nose with some twelve water,
and you put him out on your long on your
long bait, on the biggest the biggest stick you want
to stand up.

Speaker 3 (36:51):
And fight a fish with.

Speaker 40 (36:52):
Let's put it this way, and you keep it on
the surface, so you're you're midd and your short bait
you can fish the live baits. But as a cool story,
last year, I had a young, young, young mate. We
were turning into a captain. I said, we're going to
do this, and you know he had but you know,
because I hadn't shown him that yet, and it wasn't
twenty minutes. I said, look, you're going to see the

(37:14):
fish comb. We're we're drifted with an east wind, kites
up on the inshore, side of us, and we've been
drifting for ten minutes. Now this is the north current,
so the boat sliding north. But I said, you're going
to see a fin pop out over there on the
on the upwind side off shore, I said, and he's
going to circle thebot of the boat and he's going
to swim to the kite bait. And he's just looking
at me. Right, It wasn't I I could have couldn't

(37:35):
have called it any better. A nice seven eight fift
t had hammers comes comes around the corner roar, and
so then I started teasing him. So, yeah, you PLoP
the bait up and down a few times. He starts
to grab a ticket out of the water, and it
really pisses him.

Speaker 3 (37:47):
We're basically pushing. You're pissing him off. So you're you
just pissed it off. I'll tell you what. You know
what you know what?

Speaker 40 (37:54):
Don't forget what you're out there for. You're out there
to bend to rod. If you're going to let a
sailfish go, why wouldn't you catch him? If you're eighty
one hundred hundred and fifty pound hammerhead shark and of
a blast, you know, cut the wire Let them go. Man,
they are so much fun there. People forget how much
fun sharks are.

Speaker 3 (38:09):
Let those sharks go away, and do you guys dispatch
your Absolutely? I would never. I don't.

Speaker 40 (38:14):
I basically don't want to kill anything unless you're gonna
eat it. So no, no more hanging fish for cool pictures.
No more, No more long on larries and camera stock.

Speaker 3 (38:24):
That's the new one way ad. You know, sharks have
taken over. And every captain we talked to says, sharks
have been anybody nooses and they're back by those zillions. Okay,
so well they are eight's so bad?

Speaker 40 (38:39):
No, I hear you, Well what they maybe let a
longliner or two come out here off that would that
would do it? Somebody that can make use of you.
Got to realize something. I got people on my boats.
So if I bring a nine milimeter or forty five,
I'm not throwing I'm not throwing a five foot or
over even a four foot shark on the deck of
my boat. First gaff of them. Then as soon as
he hits the deck, who's going to grab them? And

(39:01):
you got people screaming, and you know, truthfully, you can
get hurt and they'll knock everything around.

Speaker 18 (39:06):
Uh.

Speaker 40 (39:07):
I mean we used to bangstick them, you know, we
use a twelve gage bangstick and that.

Speaker 3 (39:11):
That does a pretty good job.

Speaker 40 (39:12):
But I think I think it scares the customers just
as bad, you know. But yeah, they're they're dangerous animals
to handle, for sure.

Speaker 3 (39:18):
What's worse a flopping kobea on your deck which will
destroy your boat or hear you that's your ship. Kobe
is a.

Speaker 25 (39:27):
Nuts same Oh my gosh, one of them and it
was black, like, yeah, it was your leg set, you
know what I can I I can remember holding up
a forty pound Kobe that was pretty fresh for a
picture and I held him up right in front of
me and he did his tail flop.

Speaker 3 (39:47):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah.

Speaker 6 (39:49):
It's like, oh god, oh what are you kidding me?

Speaker 40 (39:52):
That's one pose you don't want to do.

Speaker 3 (39:55):
They got that lost. Yeah, well, I you know, we
all have. You know.

Speaker 40 (40:02):
It's funny about Kobe is everybody has got cool stories
about things that happened because they're a little whack you know,
they're different.

Speaker 3 (40:09):
Kind of fish. Look how big they are.

Speaker 40 (40:11):
They could swim right up to the boat and just say, eh,
here I am and wait until you stick.

Speaker 12 (40:16):
Them and I got a question for you when you
were telling your mate of where were this fish was
gonna come from? And the angle and everything. Yeah, and
he's got to be looking at you. How many years
of teaching experience do you have on the water. I'm
just wondering, Well.

Speaker 40 (40:29):
There's not one year. There's not a year that nine
out of ten of them appreciate or respect. So I
hate to say it that way, but that's one of
the you know, I remember a bouncer said to me
one time. He says, wait, how come he grabbed a
couple of my mates from time to time he wanted
to beat him up better, So but he would he
would say to me, how come you're not teaching them this?

(40:50):
How come you're not teaching them that? I said, Look,
I'll put it out there, and it depends on the
reaction I get and how hard I want to work
at them staying at task, doing as I wish them
to do. And you get to a point where you know,
I say, you know what, they don't want too bad enough.
You know they don't want to learn the years, and
I well, they're not respective enough of the years you

(41:14):
spend out. Look, man, you can read all the books
you want. You can list all the seminars you want.
You think you've got it. But unless you spend the
hours out there, and what wells hours do to the
old dudes like me, Man, they humble you. It humbles
you because you know, when you're young and full a
piss of negar, you know you think you're the king
because you throw a bunch of fish on the dock
all the time. But as you get into the game

(41:36):
longer and longer and longer, you learn to respect this
ocean a lot more. Like I said, every day you
go out there, you got to be you have to
pay attention. It's a learning experience and you can take
everyone last crank on the pen international man.

Speaker 3 (41:50):
So absolutely, man, thirteen year olds absolutely.

Speaker 41 (41:56):
Fishing for free with dead good time night fishing is starting.
The other thing I want to plug too, is we've
got a great resident discount. You know, it's a bit
challenger for local folks to come to Bayside because it's
parking is is what it is.

Speaker 40 (42:09):
You know, it's expensive. So what we've done is we
give a tremendous resident discount, plus you can bring a kid.
So we're trying to get We're trying to get the
group and the family and the fun fishing thing out.
Bring your jigging rod whatever you want, you know, and
go out and go fishing.

Speaker 3 (42:23):
Man, great, nice wait.

Speaker 40 (42:25):
Simple stuff.

Speaker 3 (42:26):
You got to the clock man, because we have a
guy waiting to below take up a C two or
whatever than Swayne.

Speaker 40 (42:33):
But then you watch it all right, have a beautiful day, gentlemen,
thank you, But let's.

Speaker 3 (42:37):
Bringing man clock is right late here.

Speaker 15 (42:40):
I'm sharing the show too, just so you know it's
springing the group of well, I can't get though feel
you're just oh well, you know if you would just
shell prap I do shell prep Knitwick, you would know
you don't do Jack show.

Speaker 3 (42:56):
You would know what the other co host did. Yeah right,
jim Chief Matthew is a program. Who's almost I didn't touch.

Speaker 8 (43:08):
Who's blowing bubbles today?

Speaker 3 (43:10):
Who's blowing blowing crapy?

Speaker 6 (43:13):
Because he just turned sixty nine?

Speaker 5 (43:17):
Whatever?

Speaker 3 (43:18):
Jimmy, why how are you man?

Speaker 26 (43:20):
How excellent?

Speaker 8 (43:21):
Excellent? Let's let's get the business done all right. Went
out Thursday on seafish and nice little six back at
of Boca Uh with Captain Brent and we went north
to change a place where we just wanted to give
it a shot. You know, we've been really hitting south.
What I mean by that, Lauderdale by the Sea Pompo
has been really productive. But but that was Lady Gold

(43:44):
last week. I did that out of the sands. But
you know, we just wanted to change it up a
little bit. So it's six of us up that way.
We've got our limital lobster. But we had to work
for him, Eric, I don't want you to think that
this stuff comes easy. Okay, yeah, we had to actually
work for them.

Speaker 3 (44:00):
For them, that easy ass snare just goes right over
their body and you pull them out of their happy hole.

Speaker 42 (44:07):
And what that?

Speaker 17 (44:07):
Thank you I do?

Speaker 8 (44:09):
Okay, thank thank you for promoting the chiefly snare by
lost league.

Speaker 3 (44:14):
What guys like me doing with like a freaking clothes hangar, okay,
freaking that is a challenge.

Speaker 8 (44:23):
Okay, I'm not your should we talked about tickle six
is probably not a good idea, you know what I mean?

Speaker 19 (44:30):
Let me show.

Speaker 5 (44:30):
Let me give you the.

Speaker 3 (44:33):
You know Okay, good, I hear you. Okay, listen, it
was cold number one.

Speaker 8 (44:38):
It was cold like seventy one seventy two degrees and
what made it colder was on Thursday, was cloudy, so
there was no like sun down in there, and so
the visibility was, ah, maybe twenty feet. Had a gentle
north current. That was probably the only thing. But hole,

(44:58):
I'll tell you what. We hit it like. We've got
out about seventy five feet. I was dining with Jennifer
and all of a sudden, I mean, and we hadn't
We don't normally get these until like April. But the
old upwelling so you could literally see in the water,
the cold coming up at you from the deep. Oh,

Speaker 3 (01:01:33):
Yeah, hey, question, I have a question for him.

Speaker 12 (01:01:35):
Which one of the hosts, Eric Brandon or Joe Hector
is more annoying on a regular basis?

Speaker 5 (01:01:41):
God, Oh, here we go.

Speaker 49 (01:01:44):
That's a real tough questions more on the cycle there,
you know.

Speaker 5 (01:01:50):
He used to be.

Speaker 3 (01:01:50):
We're both annoying yourself, man, he goes a tough questions.
Just the guy you're picking being very politically correct, man,
Just don't say it. Okay, anyway, the show Man and

of course. Let's go check our friend Benny Benny Boy, Benny,
my man, I'm still putting that puddle that enormous group
where he got up on the Facebook post on Fridays.
I think it's just freaking huge man, monster co money
Benny go on to to you, buddy, Hey, what's up, guys?
How's it going y'all? Staying warm out there today? Is

(01:02:34):
not too bad? Good little dip in the air. But
are you the one? What are you doing?

Speaker 13 (01:02:38):
Yeah?

Speaker 42 (01:02:38):
Yeah, I'm right here and it's a nice little breeze,
a little chill, but it'll be all right.

Speaker 3 (01:02:44):
That as bad as the last time I spoke to
you all, can't be any bad. Worse than the hater
room of Jet fans. Yeah, you know that's a heated room. Yeah,
because exactly they definitely hate one guy.

Speaker 6 (01:02:56):
Hey, well he's gone.

Speaker 3 (01:02:57):
So is he officially gone?

Speaker 25 (01:02:58):
Now?

Speaker 3 (01:02:59):
Yeah, he's that's it. They cut his ass.

Speaker 6 (01:03:01):
He left, He just I think he just left. I
think he's going into politics.

Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
Oh he's such a freaking.

Speaker 42 (01:03:08):
He is.

Speaker 3 (01:03:08):
He Remember he went on that little sabbatical where he
was like smoking paoty, freaking like trip it out on
ls diocraty man, a freaking freak man to reach their
own man, you know like anyway, Betty, so no, I
think about it. No, I think about it. That's like
my past back in the seventies.

Speaker 19 (01:03:27):
Shock.

Speaker 3 (01:03:29):
What are you catching, Betty waits targeting man.

Speaker 42 (01:03:31):
Yeah, yeah, well, I mean right now, sailfish is the
hot topic after this past couple of days weather forecast.

Speaker 3 (01:03:38):
He kind of knew it was coming.

Speaker 42 (01:03:39):
After the way the bite's been the past few weeks
and the way the fish's been moving around. You knew
the saalefish bike was going to turn on. Yesterday. We
had a big pressure change in the air when switched out,
the north cool down a little bit, the swell picked up,
and uh, you know, they had a sailfish tournament go
on yesterday. I think they caught upwards of nine hundred
fish yesterday and the sailfish tournament, so it was crazy.

(01:04:00):
I think the top boat art Sat from Pompino Beach
had like forty three fish.

Speaker 3 (01:04:05):
So it was a very interesting day.

Speaker 42 (01:04:07):
Even on our charters yesterday we were catching, you know,
I think the morning trip Captain Tyler had three sails.
In the afternoon he had another two. But those guys
didn't last as long out there. It was a little
sporty form on our smaller center consoles. But it's been productive.
I think last time I spoke to you, we spoke
about wahoo fishing, and that was pretty productive. I think

(01:04:28):
the day I had y'all on the phone last time,
I got three wahoo out there fishing by myself.

Speaker 3 (01:04:33):
So you know, it's it's been all right.

Speaker 42 (01:04:36):
It's not a hot bite yet by any means. It's
not springtime fishing yet by any means. But there's a
little more production this week than there's been the past
couple of weeks for us.

Speaker 10 (01:04:45):
Were you high speedt trolling or what was your tactic
with getting them the wahoo?

Speaker 3 (01:04:50):
Yeah, yeah, we were trolling. We were trolling. You know.

Speaker 42 (01:04:53):
We got the planers down deep. I had a lead
line far back and we got two on the planers
and one on the lid. So any skirts, Yeah, yeah,
we got our you know, sea witches on. We had
some Freddy Collins sea witches that day. So stop by
his house the day before, got some hand tied sea
witches from him, rig them up with some beanita strips and.

Speaker 3 (01:05:16):
Yeah, yeah, I get paid for that one. By the way, I'm.

Speaker 6 (01:05:19):
Man, what color what color do you use your weight?

Speaker 42 (01:05:24):
Well, we know I always put Joe's favorite color on
every morning.

Speaker 3 (01:05:28):
I just picked your Barbie pink, yes, and you know
you got to send it.

Speaker 42 (01:05:33):
But I like, actually that day, I do remember there
was like a there was like a purplish mylar that
I think we caught two of the three on that day.

Speaker 3 (01:05:41):
Damn. So now that I remember correctly, I got a
question for Betty on that monster grouper you caught, Betty, right,
how much flay fish pounded? You think you got off
that thing? Man? So we did. We weighed the fishhole,
so just to go off that, we weighed the this hole.
It was forty two pounds.

Speaker 42 (01:06:03):
And then and then as far as meat, we didn't
weigh the meat we got, but we did have three
freezer bags. Two of them were about halfway full, and
you know all three of them were about halfway full.

Speaker 3 (01:06:15):
Did you a couple of bags of those already?

Speaker 6 (01:06:17):
Betty, Benny, I appreciate the one bag you gave me, man, that.

Speaker 19 (01:06:20):
Was just well.

Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
I went with two buddies, so we split it up
three ways.

Speaker 42 (01:06:26):
And then you know, my mom ended up taking most
of my meat anyway, so I didn't have not to
spare everyone.

Speaker 3 (01:06:30):
I promised they got shafted take care of mama, man,
because Mama was a big fan of Man. She always
jumps on the show here and those are problems. Yet
I thought she was on there for you. I didn't
know if she came from me. Oh aged, she said,
I remember this guy from on the radio back in
the day. I mean the magic days. Oh yeah, the

(01:06:56):

Speaker 6 (01:06:57):

Speaker 3 (01:06:59):
They paid me.

Speaker 6 (01:07:00):

there and you're you're just waking up and you're you know,
you're getting ready for the day. Like, how does that feel?

Speaker 3 (01:07:37):

Not bad, Norm, We chatted.

Speaker 52 (01:14:28):
Man.

Speaker 3 (01:14:28):
Browar's had a good week.

Speaker 4 (01:14:29):
Huh.

Speaker 26 (01:14:31):
Yeah, it's definitely picked up, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:14:34):
Uh.

Speaker 26 (01:14:35):
The bottom fish is still good.

Speaker 53 (01:14:37):
I mean there's some nice snappers, some for millions, a
few American reds, some mountains.

Speaker 26 (01:14:46):
I don't know about the yellow tails this week.

Speaker 54 (01:14:49):
I don't think too many people got out and stayed
out there. It was a little bit weather picked up
just a little bit. I don't think too many guys
were yellow tailing at night. But it's been current's been good.
So the wahoo fishing was good. Still a bunch of
wahoo's being caught on the troll. And we also had

(01:15:13):
the kingfish finally started showing up. So that was you know,
that's been pretty good. Some really nice dolphins this week.

Speaker 53 (01:15:23):
Big Bart caught one that probably looked like it was
about thirty pounds this week.

Speaker 3 (01:15:28):
Nice.

Speaker 53 (01:15:29):
So yeah, some really nice dolphins showing up here. And
of course the sailfish. You know, we've got the weather
is really good for sales right now, so you know,
it's been kind of all happening really, some big tarpa
and showing up in shore as well, some big slops,
and the shrimps were running pretty good this week.

Speaker 26 (01:15:52):
So that's you know, that's you know, the whole it's
it's kind of firing on all cylinders right now.

Speaker 3 (01:15:57):
Yeah. I think Joe, he's a thirty pound of mahi. Yeah.
I haven't caught one of those in probably ten years.
Normally it's the seven eight pounds swingers, maybe a couple
of small gaffers. A thirty pound mahi. These days, it's
to me, uh, norm a pretty pretty damn big fishman.
I don't know. That's my world. Yeah, I mean that's yeah, Eric,

(01:16:21):
yeah around here, it is, yeah around here, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I feel sorry.

Speaker 10 (01:16:27):
I just I feel that a lot of these big
mahi are actually caught right in Norm's area there, because
the last I heard another big mahi was.

Speaker 6 (01:16:35):
Caught right around Port Everglades and that whole area over there.
Pounds yeah, like like twenty five twenty five pounds. So
I don't know, maybe they swing in there or something.
I don't know, it's just they.

Speaker 3 (01:16:47):
Do well there, normal attestas. So I see videos on
line of guys like in the Costa Rica, Panama or
whatever else. Yeah, and those mahis there are pain in
the ass, are kind of a nooses or fishing for
Marlon Marlin whatever, and they don't want the mahi around.
And when we guy grabs one, it's like a freaking
fifty pounder. Yeah, it's like, okay, another damn mahi. You
know what I mean? My god, don't imagine you imagine? No,

(01:17:10):
I can't for I mean.

Speaker 10 (01:17:11):
Listen back in two thousand and eight, two thousand and nine,
and even twenty ten, I caught two, I mean multiple
big mahi back to back years. The first year I
got the thirty plus pounder and then I got that,
like I think it was like a I weighed him
at Tommy Green's like a thirty one pounder. So like
even back then me on the kayak, I mean, we

(01:17:34):
were catching him, but they just I just feel like,
I don't know what happened though.

Speaker 3 (01:17:38):
Bit of this for so many years now, I'm just
kind of like over what happened to him? I mean, yeah,
it's weird. I don't know. So norma guy was gonna
go out today, what is best back to target? What
would he target today? Do you think?

Speaker 26 (01:17:49):
Man?

Speaker 52 (01:17:51):
You know, if I were going out today, I mean
I'd be quite fit. That's just uh, you know, dogalized.
If you're if you can find get thread fins. Uh
those are those are gold goggle ezed uh, you know
blue runners. I'd be kite fishing, I really would.

Speaker 53 (01:18:12):
I think the sales are going to chew this week
and play you know that's that that would be That
would be my my ball game right there.

Speaker 3 (01:18:22):
You know, I'd like to sub seeding the winter blow.
It's pretty blowy Joe for a fly fly a kite.
I just say that I have no idea that something's
kind of that was weird saying there's enough wind of
fly a kite as what try to say? Yeah, Okay,
thank you.

Speaker 5 (01:18:41):
Normal.

Speaker 3 (01:18:41):
We bring a song every week, and brother, thank you
again for bringing it tight with the show and being
straight up man, you never be on the show it's
always the truth and nothing but the truth. Man, it's bad.
He said it's bad. It's good, it's good, right, you
know what I mean? That's Norm? Thank you Norm. Thanks Norm.
Guys run that dog.

Speaker 12 (01:18:59):
You say there's always nothing but the truth. So you're
saying other people are lying or what's going on?

Speaker 3 (01:19:04):
I'm saying in that area of the water.

Speaker 55 (01:19:06):
He.

Speaker 3 (01:19:08):
Says it's good or bad. But yeah, but all our
captains tell the truth. So yeah, Eric, why are you
calling me out on the table here? Okay, I have
a show, say he's the only one that tells the
truth here? Can you? Can you mute your own Mike?
Is that possible? Thank you? Let's go see what Johnny's doing,
shall we?

Speaker 4 (01:19:25):
Johnny?

Speaker 3 (01:19:26):
I put up with this Midwick. Johnny'st Bill my man,
how you doing, buddy.

Speaker 1 (01:19:32):
Man?

Speaker 3 (01:19:33):
I am tired.

Speaker 5 (01:19:34):
I've been all week, which is which is a good thing.

Speaker 32 (01:19:38):
I'm happy to be tired because it beats sitting on
the couch for four or five straight days every week
wishing I had a trip. So business finally picking up
fishing a little wishy washy, but we've been getting it
done for all of our people.

Speaker 26 (01:19:53):
And yeah, you know this little cool front.

Speaker 5 (01:19:58):
By the way, I I absolutely hate cold weather.

Speaker 32 (01:20:01):
I'm I'm a Floridian, true and true, born and raised
in Brower County, and I don't like cold weather. Every
time it drafts list seventy five, I got to put
on a jacket and I.

Speaker 8 (01:20:13):
Don't want I don't.

Speaker 3 (01:20:15):
I don't like it.

Speaker 26 (01:20:15):
I'm just I'm just not built for it. I'm like
an iguana.

Speaker 3 (01:20:19):
Yeah right, not even ones.

Speaker 56 (01:20:22):
Huh.

Speaker 3 (01:20:22):
I don't like it, Joe fact.

Speaker 32 (01:20:25):
But you know, uh, previous to this cold front, fishing
was on fire.

Speaker 26 (01:20:32):
I mean we were we were having you know.

Speaker 32 (01:20:34):
Which which is a good number for us now, but
four or five years ago, I would have thought it
was a bad number. We're catching twenty to forty fish
in four hours, which which is really good for for
this this time of the lake, and and how the
lake is right now, We're we're doing really good. Right
after that cold front hit yesterday was the first day

(01:20:54):
of it, we still managed twenty eight fish and they
were a mix of mostly peacocks and a few large
mouths and a couple of hybrid stripers. Today, I if
I if we catch anything over.

Speaker 55 (01:21:10):
Ten fish, I will be happy.

Speaker 32 (01:21:13):
It's cold today, that water temperature is going to be colder.
Everything's gonna be a little bit slower. Bait was really
hard to find yesterday, and I imagine it'll be the
same today.

Speaker 40 (01:21:24):
I'm actually pulling up to.

Speaker 32 (01:21:25):
The lake as we speak, but it looks like everybody's
still out catching bait, which is not a good sign
for me because I'm running late, like normally on Saturday morning.

Speaker 3 (01:21:35):
And you know, it's only sixty eight degrees. Man, it's
not really super cold.

Speaker 12 (01:21:40):
You think we just got like a winter blast. I mean,
Johnny sounds really happy to be out here today.

Speaker 3 (01:21:44):
I don't know, Man, it's sixty eight is not really cold.
We've had Joe, Yeah, you got.

Speaker 32 (01:21:52):
You gotta remember, I fish for tropical fish, so small
movements in water temperature are everything to my fisheries.

Speaker 19 (01:22:01):
So you know, and that's just kind of the game.

Speaker 32 (01:22:06):
You know what early in the week, the water temperature
was in the you know, upper seventies, almost eighty degrees,
and now it's like seventy one. So that's a huge
swinging temperature for my fishery. And you know, and I
saw a guy yesterdays and only caught three fish. I'm
fortunate I picked up hots like I got almost thirty.

Speaker 3 (01:22:28):
What about that the shrimp run was going on, Johnny
Webb with the tarpent thing going on, it was a
big shrip run for a wall in Tarpora were slamming them.

Speaker 32 (01:22:35):
Yeah, tarpin are still going off.

Speaker 5 (01:22:37):
You know.

Speaker 32 (01:22:37):
That runs about h February first, or maybe even middle
of January.

Speaker 40 (01:22:44):
To about the first week of April.

Speaker 32 (01:22:46):
Okay, and the shrimper everywhere. I mean, they're they're everywhere.
We had a good south wind the other day. I'm
not sure if they made it into Hillsborough and left,
but a lot of times when you get that like
southeast wind, they'll push those shrimp all along the shoreline
all the way up into Hillsboro Inlet and Boca in Let.

Speaker 5 (01:23:07):
You don't really hear as much in Boca.

Speaker 32 (01:23:08):
But I didn't really hear any good reports about that.

Speaker 40 (01:23:12):
But you know, the season is still early, so we
get a good south wind on a you know, on
a night that we have some.

Speaker 32 (01:23:18):
Good tides, and there will definitely be plenty of shrimp
to be caught in all the inlets north of Miami.

Speaker 3 (01:23:26):
All Johnny, oh, yeah, all the time.

Speaker 32 (01:23:29):
I actually did a couple of charters for it this year.

Speaker 6 (01:23:32):
And it's great.

Speaker 40 (01:23:34):
I have a big light that goes on the front
of my boat.

Speaker 32 (01:23:37):
I have these, uh you know, really nice shrimp nets
that have like a big long hoop that kind of
you can hold all.

Speaker 55 (01:23:45):
The shrimp in there.

Speaker 32 (01:23:46):
I mean, yeah, I love it. I actually I love
to eat shrimp too, So we we do a lot
of like shrimp boils this time of the year, grilled shrimp.
I sound like Forrest Gump.

Speaker 19 (01:23:57):
Right now, but we we.

Speaker 3 (01:24:00):
Shrimp cock shrimp.

Speaker 32 (01:24:07):
But there's there's definitely enough shrimp to go around. There's
a there's a couple of shrimping pages on Facebook and
and they're all all going off this time of the year.
Everybody's looking for the shrimp and people are getting them
by the bucket full.

Speaker 19 (01:24:21):
I got.

Speaker 10 (01:24:22):
I gotta say, there's nothing like going into the inlets
during a shrimp run. And not only are you able
to catch shrimp if you want, but you hear and
then it's the tarpin and the snow and they're just.

Speaker 3 (01:24:39):
Man, I mean, it is awesome, and they're good children
eating later. Oh yeah, yeah, oh yeah, Johnny out the water.
I'd be to ask you fishing today. You said, do
you have a chart later one or what he's fishing.

Speaker 32 (01:24:50):
Yeah, yeah, I just pulled up to the lake a
minute ago, and yeah, I, uh, what do you call it?

Speaker 26 (01:24:58):
Fish?

Speaker 40 (01:24:58):
And I have a cast and black today.

Speaker 32 (01:25:00):
So that's when we fish for four hours and we
shoot iguanas for two hours.

Speaker 3 (01:25:06):
Sweet, well past the blast the cast of glast I
like that. Man, that's great. Well, Johnny, go out there
and do your thing, man, bring it strong every weekend.
Thanks so very much. Man, you're a mad dude. Thanks Johnny, all.

Speaker 4 (01:25:20):
Right, appreciate you guys.

Speaker 3 (01:25:22):
Hey, so a quick little boat story. Yeah, so I
met this gentleman once or twice before, and he wasn't
really sure what you wanted to do. And I never
saw it for a couple of weeks or whatever. So
yesterday Jose Sotobayor and his son Elias pull up to
the place at work. Right, he goes, Eric, I'm not
the kind of likes to shopper off for a boat.
He goes, I like that thirty twenty three foot to

(01:25:44):
get right there, right, I said, it's cool. They jump
on board. Three minutes later he goes, yeah, buy it.
I'll buy it brand new, twenty twenty five, just two
down to chi Chi and bought it. So I said,
I'm gonna give you a plug in the show. I
didn't eat the brand. I didn't sell myself out here
on the show, just said I sold a boat. Those
Sultor and his son Elias, who by the way, are

(01:26:07):
big fishing fans and are now fans of the show. Sweet.
So I had to put it out there. Man, Okay,
all right, cool, give him a little We'll give them
a little round Stevie. I thanks, Steve, worry about that.

Speaker 56 (01:32:21):
Ah, you're asking me, I don't think that.

Speaker 55 (01:32:24):
Yeah, I don't know. It's hard to say when we're
in twenty degrees.

Speaker 3 (01:32:29):
You're in twenty up here in Atlanta.

Speaker 5 (01:32:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 48 (01:32:33):
Yeah, they had a little cold front. There was a
cold print that came through. But hopefully you're on the
tail end of them. I mean, we're kind of flipping
a page here.

Speaker 5 (01:32:41):
I feel right.

Speaker 3 (01:32:42):
Go to hear some of our captains, Jennisfy Johnny Stiville

Speaker 55 (01:33:05):
I know you're in the deep freeze at that point.

Speaker 3 (01:33:08):
Almighty. I'm saying, right, so the wind is blowing, it
looks like it's gonna be I'm guessing your forecast is
gonna probably say some small craft advisories or some nasty
stuff shore though, right.

Speaker 55 (01:33:19):
Tomorrow is gonna be your better day.

Speaker 48 (01:33:21):
Today, you have a twenty percent chance of showers, partly sunny,
hive seventy three east, winds fifteen to twenty.

Speaker 55 (01:33:27):
Sees four to six feet occasionally eight. Inner coastal water's choppy.

Speaker 48 (01:33:32):
Tomorrow better, mostly sunny, higher seventy six northeast winds five
to ten seas two to three feet in our coastal
water is a light chop. In the Keys today, mostly sunny,
high near seventy three, northeast winds near twenty sees one
to three feet near shore water's rough.

Speaker 42 (01:33:47):
Uh.

Speaker 48 (01:33:48):
And then tomorrow's sunny with a high near seventy five,
northeast to east winds ten to fifteen sees one to
two feet near shore water's a light to moderate chop.

Speaker 55 (01:33:56):
And in the Keys today northeast to east winds near
twenty knots.

Speaker 48 (01:33:59):
Baywi is rough becoming choppy, and tomorrow northeast winds ten
to fifteen Bay waters a light to moderate chop.

Speaker 3 (01:34:07):
Well that's pretty uh.

Speaker 55 (01:34:08):
Some days a better day. At least it does get better.
That's today's today's a little right out there and.

Speaker 3 (01:34:14):
And damn day for boating off sure joy ranked six
eight ten. I don't know, man anyway. Yeah, so jent
up in your way in Atlanta. Expect to get warm
one of these days. I mean it really is like
what's I know, it still February, but maybe a little
warm up.

Speaker 48 (01:34:28):
Yeah, we're supposed to be at seventy degrees by Monday
and Tuesday.

Speaker 55 (01:34:32):
This is crazy.

Speaker 3 (01:34:33):
After fourth one last question, how was your trip? But
you had a little vac going on. I went to California.
Had to work out for you.

Speaker 26 (01:34:40):
Yeah, it was good.

Speaker 55 (01:34:41):
We went to California with the boys.

Speaker 48 (01:34:43):
My sister, who lives in Houston, has boys about the
same age as ours, so we had a little cousin sister.

Speaker 55 (01:34:50):
Her family went out there too, so it was really fun.

Speaker 5 (01:34:54):
It was.

Speaker 55 (01:34:54):
It was a blast. We took the boys.

Speaker 48 (01:34:56):
I'm not an amusement park person. I'm not a Disney person,
which I know is unpopular opinion, but we took the
boys to Super Mario World because cool.

Speaker 6 (01:35:06):
I don't even though there was a Super Mario World.

Speaker 3 (01:35:09):
It's like to this block thing. What's it called again?

Speaker 6 (01:35:14):
Leg I took me at a Lego Lanes.

Speaker 3 (01:35:16):
Sounds so freaking born to be a bunch of Legos
put together.

Speaker 6 (01:35:19):
How it was, It was okay, it was all right.

Speaker 48 (01:35:22):
Yeah, the Super Mario World is that Universal Studios out
there in Hollywood.

Speaker 55 (01:35:30):
It was actually really cool.

Speaker 48 (01:35:32):
But I'm good if I never go to Disney or
universally and the rest of my life.

Speaker 3 (01:35:38):
Like I'm with her, by the way, but wait, I
have to say no to go to Disney at all
zero Listen.

Speaker 10 (01:35:44):
I'm not a big Disney fanatic weirdo or anything like that,
but I will say, what.

Speaker 6 (01:35:50):
Was that last year or was it?

Speaker 8 (01:35:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 10 (01:35:52):
Last year we went to Animal Kingdom, and I will
say that place you don't even have to leave the hotel,
Like when you open up your slider in your room,
you have girafts and the animals there right in your
like backyard. Cool, Jan, you gotta you gotta go there,

(01:36:13):
like that place was unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (01:36:16):
Yeah. Yeah, scrabbled eggs and a giraffe poop. It's it's amazing.
It's amazing.

Speaker 5 (01:36:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:36:26):
All right, thanks so much for bringing a strong we
love at the show. You are family here, You're part
of the team, So thank you again for always bringing it.
Thanks every Saturday.

Speaker 8 (01:36:36):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (01:36:38):
All right, let's go dipper pond and a finger pond
and the Keys watered out. Joey shall dip your finger
pond in the keys no sense at all like me
the entire show, So dip your finger palm in the keys.
Show crap ya doing something lately on.

Speaker 6 (01:36:55):
Well you know, Eric, if you would.

Speaker 26 (01:36:56):
Just whatever, showrap.

Speaker 3 (01:37:00):
Let's go talk to DEBI get off you and me
shall I yeah, captain on.

Speaker 56 (01:37:04):
It to you can dim yee, how bullet's house it going?

Speaker 46 (01:37:08):
Well?

Speaker 3 (01:37:08):
One of our captors called it very nippoly today. I
don't know, what do you think about this weather?

Speaker 56 (01:37:13):
Well, it's seventy degrees but the wind's blowing twenty out
the northeast, so I mean it's a little rough. But
you know what they say, if it's blowing, we're going. Yeah,
there's uh, there's a couple of charter boats out this
morning I saw, so, you know, a good day to
run the kite and a good day to get the
high the high wind kites out and sit on the

(01:37:34):
edge of the reef and hope a shelfish comes down
and eat your bait.

Speaker 3 (01:37:38):
Did I see you on LINEO having a string of wahoo?
A couple of days of rower this week or last week?

Speaker 5 (01:37:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 56 (01:37:44):
I caught a really nice one. I caught a forty
five pounder this this week.

Speaker 6 (01:37:52):
It's insane, damn nice yep.

Speaker 56 (01:37:56):
Yeah, it was a nice bite. And it ate cotton
candy again, it ate the pink.

Speaker 26 (01:38:00):
So oh, you know.

Speaker 56 (01:38:01):
I actually did something weird this week. I caught a
king mackerel on the high speed. I was probably going
fifteen sixteen knots and I've never seen a king mackerel
just come up and just lay into the bait. So
that was really cool to watch.

Speaker 3 (01:38:16):
Ok.

Speaker 56 (01:38:17):
I thought I had a double on and I had
one king in that big wahoo.

Speaker 6 (01:38:21):
Oh nice?

Speaker 3 (01:38:23):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:38:23):
Yeah, how big was it?

Speaker 56 (01:38:25):
White's been really good. White's been actually excellent. We have
had a cold front. It didn't really drop the temperature,
but it sure did drop that pressure and the fish
went crazy. The first three days of before the front,
a couple of boats out of Key Largo Fisheries.

Speaker 8 (01:38:42):
And got on the wahoo.

Speaker 56 (01:38:45):
Guy named Ben Pope runs Coastler Dreams out of Keiler Fisheries.
He caught four one day, three the next, and then
four the next day. So you know, the wahoo have
really been I think they liked this weather pattern this year, rainy,
the different weather pattern than we had last year, and
they seem to be chewing a lot better. Also, we've

(01:39:07):
been having those really big black fin tuna come through
twenty up to twenty five thirty pounds, so it's a big,
big black thing tuna. They're out there. They're catching them
on the kite, also catching them off the wrecks. So
every year in February we get when it gets really
really cold up north, just like a snowbird. Our fish
moved down and they come through the gold stream. They

(01:39:29):
come down and get warm. We catch them weather here.
This also coming up this coming week. If you look
back through your fish calendar, if you keep a fish calendar,
that's very recommended. We do have our blue fin tuna
run coming in. And when you're sitting out there and
you're soaking baits and you see an eight hundred pound

(01:39:49):
blue bin tuda stroll by like a submarine, it's one
of the coldest feelings you've ever had. So you know,
it's good to see. It's hard to catch them. I
don't have the gear where it takes a one point thirty.
I don't have that kind of gear. But I can
sure do look at them and watch watch them migrate
over to the Gulf of America.

Speaker 5 (01:40:07):
For sure, go joy them.

Speaker 6 (01:40:11):
Didn't you say?

Speaker 10 (01:40:12):
I think it was last year they came in like
really shallow too, write where where the boats were chasing
them or something.

Speaker 56 (01:40:19):
Absolutely, yeah, we they eat in the sand. So I mean,
just to have you know, a six to eight hundred
pound tuna come through Alligator reef at twenty feet of
water with white sand, and just watch these these magnificent
fish just take off. I mean, they've got one thing
on their mind and that's to go spine. So it's

(01:40:42):
really hard to put a hook in one. It's really
hard to get a bait out to one. But there's
one guy here in the Keys that does it every year,
and that's Captain Alex Adler on the Klex out of
but Mary's is the best at it. No matter what,
hands down, he can catch anything that swims, so shout
out to him. He'll probably be on some kind of

(01:41:03):
fishing show this week because he is the tuna man
down here. But it's hard to it's it's an amazing
fishery because once we see those tuna come in, we
know it's spring. We got one more cold front coming
in on Saturday, and then it's gonna be spring and
it is gonna go off down here because we've had
this weather pattern that fish love. They love the rain,

(01:41:24):
they love the current, they love all this stuff. Last
couple of years we've been kind of in a fish rut.
I think I think that the weather's kind of played
a big role in that, and we were in a
La Nina year. Now we're in an El Nino year,
and the El Nino year increases fishing. So if you
look back in twenty twenty when we had the same

(01:41:45):
weather pattern, you will see that our fishing was much better.
So so good news. Fishing is gonna get better I
think for spring.

Speaker 3 (01:41:54):
Yeah, what a great report. By the way, that was
in depth and on point up. And one last thing,
she said, keep a fishing cattle. I saw Joe's deb
It's a book, white up, a book with like nine
hundred pages of white linen paper.

Speaker 56 (01:42:11):
You mean it showed up.

Speaker 3 (01:42:12):
There's not one pen mark on it. There's nothing entered
in his log, There's nothing there. It's blank. Yeah, Joe,
you know that's the one.

Speaker 56 (01:42:20):
That's the one thing that I've done since day one
of moving to the keys, and that you know people,
you know, some people keep a food diary when they
want to lose weight. Well, I want to catch fish.
I keep a fish diary, so you know, I I
really enjoy it. I like to write down weather patterns,
the pressure, what I call it, that day, everything, and
then I can go back and I can look at

(01:42:42):
the same pattern and I can see what am I
going to chase that day, and what am I going
to be successful catching that day?

Speaker 3 (01:42:48):
Good?

Speaker 56 (01:42:48):
And you know ye and you know also while the
wind blows here, I've been doing a lot of baking,
so I'm in the kitchen yesterday all day made some
really cool sweet bridge and then today I'm heading out
to the swamp and we're going swamp buggy riding and stuff.

Speaker 14 (01:43:09):
Cool gold time.

Speaker 3 (01:43:11):
