Of fish, Let's make day holy shrimp and grits.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
Welcome to the Nautical Ventures Weekly Fisherman Show, brought to
you by the number one dealer in America, America Nautical
Ventures Marine Group YEP, taking names and selling boats every
darn day there, joey Oh, yeah, it's kind of a
little brisky kind of a morning, which is not too bad.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
It's turning Japanese. I think I'm turning Japanese.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
So it's very brisk this morning, and I feel feel great.
So are big props to you and the Brandy or
Philly last weekend for me. Okay, so you're having controllable
laughter thing, No, I'm fine. Did you have a dick
name for me this morning? You said call me something
we don't call me Charlie. Charlie. Not sure where that
(01:09):
came from, Joe, but we'll discuss that later out of
the program.
Speaker 5 (01:12):
If you if you guys know Vietnam, you'll know Charlie.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
I don't get to tie in, but Anyway, I got
a little swollen eyeballs this morning.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Definitely not Charlie's angels.
Speaker 4 (01:22):
Okay, little swollen eyeballs going on, a few things are
disfigured and moved out of place.
Speaker 5 (01:27):
I'm happy you're feeling better though, But we did miss you.
Speaker 6 (01:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
I had a procedure and it all came out successful.
I've managed to hold on to at least one testicle, okay,
and I'm good man, Yeah, all right, it's all great.
Speaker 5 (01:40):
You gave a statement right to Brandy to read off
or something.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
I did not give her a state, but I just
said a little procedural thing going on, and okay, I'm back.
Speaker 5 (01:48):
Okay, Well, you know what, it's good to have you back.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
Good to be back.
Speaker 7 (01:51):
Joe.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
Does that hurt? No? Okay, no, just painful look at you. Okay.
So talking to a couple of caps last night, Joe, uh,
and fishing has been kind of sketchy this week. It's
it's been the same old kind of thing week after week.
It would blow here and there. And I think our
first half of the morning is set to have us
(02:13):
stop talking and bring him on already, Shelley, let's do that.
The one the only I'll bring him up, man Captain Jimbo,
the man Thomas is online one Jimbo, what's up, buddy?
Speaker 5 (02:27):
What's up?
Speaker 8 (02:28):
Very nice? Very nice? I like that intro the best yet,
sure on the first?
Speaker 4 (02:35):
Really, Eric, okay, how about that? I just couldn't do it,
jim very Charlie, Joe and Eric, thank you, jim both,
thanks so very much.
Speaker 8 (02:45):
When you were like recuperating in your deathbed, were you
thinking of do intros?
Speaker 4 (02:52):
I had a long time to think about it, Jimbo,
and I said, you know what, from now on, all right,
I'm dunking all of Joe sing songs. Okay, great intro
to Jimbo, the man you're firing, And it took like
a half an hour to get the first you.
Speaker 5 (03:07):
Would go on forever. This is the second time you
fired me from you.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
I just asked you that.
Speaker 5 (03:12):
Man.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
I'm kind of like the censoring you Joe.
Speaker 8 (03:15):
All right, now you're wasting all the time.
Speaker 7 (03:17):
That Joe would have been wasting.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Ram right, Yes, all right, Will was blown this week?
What's been happening? Brother?
Speaker 8 (03:28):
So it wasn't like rough blowing, but yes we've had
some wind. Uh, yesterday was slick calm looks like today
is going to be a slicker again, which is the
way I like it. Fishing has been, like you mentioned,
it hasn't been red hot, but we've had some nice
fish throughout the week, but we've had to work for
(03:48):
most of them. Throughout the week. We've had some salefish,
some decent sized kingfish, uh, a decent sized black fin tuna,
and some miscellaneous other stuff mixed in some nice cero mackerel,
but it hasn't been red hot, so we've had the
(04:10):
work for him. Yesterday we had south current off Miami,
which typically sucks, and it did, but there were some
sails caught, and we had a group that wanted to
try and catch a sail and we never saw one,
but there were.
Speaker 7 (04:28):
A few boats. That's yeah.
Speaker 8 (04:29):
A few boats saw them and caught them, and a
few of us didn't, and I was one of the
few that didn't, unfortunately. But we had some CEO's yesterday,
sharp arracuda, basically a bunch of junk. But I got
the same group going out with me again today. They
hit on some of the most spectacular weather we've had,
so I'll take that. But hopefully the fishing picks up
(04:52):
a little bit today. If we have some north current,
then the fishing will take off.
Speaker 7 (04:58):
But if we don't. It was like green water out
the five.
Speaker 8 (05:01):
Hundred feet yesterday everywhere, So it just it wasn't it
wasn't encouraging, but you know, that's that can change overnight.
Earlier in the week we had purple water and north current,
and then each day it kind of faded away more
and more and more.
Speaker 7 (05:21):
And as that.
Speaker 8 (05:22):
Happened, the at least the offshore stuff kind of faded away,
as that blue water in north current did. But it
could be in on the reef today and running and
the fish jumping in the boat.
Speaker 7 (05:34):
That's what I'm hoping.
Speaker 9 (05:36):
Did you get that black fin like right at the
edge of the blue water in the uh in the
yuck water.
Speaker 7 (05:43):
Roughly?
Speaker 8 (05:44):
That was on Wednesday, so we had a little bit
better conditions.
Speaker 7 (05:50):
Probably at caught him in one hundred and fifty feet
of water. We were tight fishing, so it was a
nice one too.
Speaker 8 (05:55):
It's like the probably the biggest one we've caught so
far this season was maybe twenty two pounds what and yeah,
it was that one, you know, So we've been catching them,
but they've been the ten pounders, eight pounders. You know,
maybe a fifteen pounder, but this one was the biggest
(06:16):
one yet. And we should start seeing more and more
of those bigger ones as we get closer to April
and then even into May. April, May, into middle of
June is when we catch those twenty five and thirty
pounders or even over thirties.
Speaker 5 (06:32):
May.
Speaker 8 (06:33):
Well, yeah, and I've actually got it. Okay, go ahead.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
I'm sorry to cutch you off, but tell me what's
going on. We have some closures. It's a brand new year.
The grouper shut down now, and Grouper is closed.
Speaker 8 (06:49):
Grouper is closed right now, and hogfish is closed. Grouper
has closed until May first. Hogfish, I don't know if
they'll in May first or not. That's not something that
we target too much, or so I think they opened
me first, but I'm not one hundred percent positive. So, yes,
(07:10):
groupers are closed, red snappers have been closed. So we
haven't been doing a whole lot of bottom fishing right now,
just because you know, we can catch one of your
favorites in amberjack and they're not even they're not even
a guarantee.
Speaker 10 (07:26):
You know.
Speaker 8 (07:26):
I've actually dropped on a number of the wrecks in
the last couple of weeks, and we're lucky to catch
an amberjack or even get an amberjack bite.
Speaker 10 (07:35):
Wow.
Speaker 8 (07:35):
So it's it's not like they're a guaranteed catch, unfortunately,
because they would save the day a lot of days
over the years. A couple of the amberjacks that we
have hooked, the friggin' sharks have been getting us. The
sharks are out of control.
Speaker 7 (07:54):
Oh. Actually, we had a sailfish bit in half by
a shark this week.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
What wow?
Speaker 7 (08:01):
Man? Yep? So uh we uh.
Speaker 8 (08:04):
I'll send you guys a picture that this salefish was
tail wrapped, so he was coming in backwards. So we
got we got from we got the tail up two thirds,
not the head back two thirds, so he was missing
his head. And I sent the picture to a number
of friends and they're like, how did this happen? You know,
(08:25):
how did you get the back half? If they ate
the head, you would have got cut off. So this
fish was tail wrapped. Therefore we were fighting them for
a long time. He was down deep, came up missing
his head.
Speaker 7 (08:37):
Uh. So we got a.
Speaker 8 (08:42):
Tail sailfish something like that.
Speaker 11 (08:45):
You know.
Speaker 9 (08:45):
I'll tell you this shark thing is kind of getting
out of control. I mean you talk to every captain.
I mean, we do the show every Saturday, and I
think every Saturday somebody mentioned the shark.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
Yep, yep, yep, out of control man.
Speaker 8 (09:02):
I mean, you know, you know there there are. There's
not more sharks around today than there were one hundred
years ago or even fifty years ago. But these sharks
are getting trained to know the sound of the boats and.
Speaker 7 (09:19):
They equate that with some free food.
Speaker 8 (09:23):
Whereas twenty five or thirty years ago, twenty years ago,
there was probably no less sharks. Maybe there were, but
you know they're I don't think there was any more
or less whatever. But when people were, you know, killing
them a lot more often, most of these sharks are protected.
You can't kill them. The sharks didn't have enough time
(09:45):
to hang out in one spot to get trained. So
these sharks are living in the same area because nobody's
molesting them, and they're getting trained, and they hear the
boat and they sit under the boat and they eat
whatever comes swimming by them on a hook, which is
easy prey. And certain areas, I got my depth machine
(10:09):
and I marked big marks on my simrat. I marked
big marks under the boat the whole time, and I'm like,
that's these sharks sitting under the boat waiting for us.
Speaker 7 (10:20):
To real self.
Speaker 12 (10:20):
Men.
Speaker 9 (10:21):
Wow, you know, Jimbo, it's funny that you mentioned this
because I actually just did a video on sharks and
how I liken them to dogs, and I truly believe
they're very similar. And I've had experiences on the kayak
where we had hammer heads that would come over to
us after catching like a couple of kingfish.
Speaker 5 (10:41):
Or whatever whatnot, and they would come over and check
out the kayak.
Speaker 10 (10:44):
Right.
Speaker 9 (10:45):
There were two things that I noticed that was pretty insane,
and one was the shark would come by and it
would look and you would see the eyeball and it
would look up at me and you could tell it
deciphered me from the kayak, which means it wasn't stupid.
It wasn't looking at the whole thing as like one object.
(11:06):
The second thing, here, wait, wait here, listen to this.
I was with Dougie and we just wanted to like
we were bored, we weren't catching any more fish, and
the sharks wouldn't leave us alone. Long story short, we
took one of the one of the small kingfish, right
and stuck it in the water, and the shark came over,
started chewing from it, ripped.
Speaker 10 (11:25):
It in half.
Speaker 9 (11:26):
I had the second half just to see because we
were like, wow, it's kind of like a dog man.
I threw the other half of the kingfish right it
boom bean lined, it grabbed it.
Speaker 5 (11:38):
After like ten seconds, it swallowed it came back over
to me like begging for food.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
I knew the story would go on forever. I just
knew it just really once he starts, it goes.
Speaker 9 (11:49):
But what I'm saying is jim Bo, like he's what
he's saying. They're learning, they're adapting. These sharks are smart.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
You want to know why they did the tacking with
a kayak shoe. It's proven it. Sharks don't like the
taste of steroids really totally turns them off. Yeah, they can't.
Speaker 8 (12:04):
He was he licking his chop, says he eyeballed you.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
I mean I thought that he I thought he didn't
attack me because you.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Know, they don't like sweet blooded.
Speaker 5 (12:12):
They don't want beautiful hearted no golden, No.
Speaker 8 (12:16):
He didn't attack you. From I know why he didn't
attack you. Sharks are man eaters, so you're safe.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
Oh man, job.
Speaker 5 (12:29):
You know what that was. That was the best of
twenty twenty five.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
Eric throw part of the man Eater. Joe did qualify
about that man. That's sweet.
Speaker 13 (12:42):
That was good.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
We got a rock and roll. Have a great weekend,
Buddy on the flyer, go out there, catch him up
and tear up the old ocean man gets some Okay,

Speaker 4 (13:27):

Speaker 5 (13:31):

up regardless. Okay, are you calling me Charlie or one log? Okay,
I Just'll get into it. Cary No Rakowski are Snakehead
King is on line number one man. He has done
some amazing things with breaking his own record records and
catching these massive snakeheads. I see him on Facebook telling
(19:45):
a bigger every week out of a court.
Speaker 5 (19:47):
Not just snakeheads though, I mean he's getting them all.
He's got clonster peacocks, you know all that.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
Yeah, carry by buddy.
Speaker 26 (19:55):
Hey, guys, doing you.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
Know Cory' one of the most laid back guys the show.
You see guys, Hey, what's up? Guys? Kept a coffee
the library or something.
Speaker 9 (20:08):
No, the best was Corey's like, yeah, I broke my
own record, like five times eight times.
Speaker 5 (20:15):
Very modest man, Okay, put it that way.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
The two ego knuckle his rough the camera here, but
he's mister laid back at the house. Okay, Hey, wait, Corey,
what's the fishing this week? Man? What's happening? Buddy?
Speaker 26 (20:27):
No, you know, it's not it's been not too bad.
I mean it's kind of getting up and down weather.
It's it's cool and then he gets hot and then
it gets cool again, as it did yesterday. And so
the fishing has been it's had its ups and downs.
It's snakehead bites, and it's had its moments. It's been
(20:49):
good and then it kind of slows up, and then
you know, it picks up again. Probably we're gonna try today,
see what happens. It was good towards the beginning of
the week and then it kind of uh slowed up
a little bit and then hopefully it stays decent today.
Speaker 7 (21:05):
We'll see what happens.
Speaker 26 (21:06):
And it was pretty cold yesterday morning, but I don't
think it'll affect it too much.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
So the one day, I'm sorry asking the standard the
canal bites glades where they actually pop it a little bit.
Speaker 26 (21:19):
It's yeah, it's mostly canals and it's in a lot
of what it is right now is like w'ere. The
one day I I fished lakes and canals and uh,
it was pretty slow there for a while, and then
I hit some of these like really shallow like type
of ditches, Like I mean, there's only like maybe two
maybe three feet of water, and that's where the majority
(21:40):
of the fish were, you know, being caught. And I
don't know one to one part of the canal is
maybe a foot deep. And we hit this one little
area on and it was on land. I wasn't even
a boat and I probably caught ten fish in one
little spot.
Speaker 7 (21:56):
Oh wow.
Speaker 26 (21:56):
So it yeah, they kind of like it's sometimes when
it gets cool and that water is still kind of cool,
those little smaller, narrower, shallow ditches, that's where you find
the better bite a lot of times. So the snakeheads anyways,
peak peak the peacock.
Speaker 7 (22:14):
But it wasn't too bad.
Speaker 26 (22:15):
One day, I again it was on it was mostly land.
I didn't even go on a boat and about an
hour or two and it was the biggest one was
like four and a half pounds christ one area. Yeah, yeah,
so it was it wasn't too bad. And to get
some large mouth one day when targeted them and I
think we got about twenty maybe twenty five.
Speaker 7 (22:37):
I had won.
Speaker 26 (22:39):
I didn't get anything really big, but I had one
follow It was probably seven eight pounds. But it just yeah,
it was a it was a giant.
Speaker 7 (22:47):
It just couldn't.
Speaker 26 (22:48):
It came from a distance.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
Peacock, no large mouths.
Speaker 5 (22:54):
Large mouth, large, large large mouth.
Speaker 26 (22:56):
Lu yeah, largemount, yeah, peacock.
Speaker 7 (22:59):
Yeah that's big.
Speaker 26 (23:01):
Yeah, No, it's a big it's a big large mouth.
And it followed, followed from a distance, and then as
it got towards the boat, I seen it and I
saw crap. So I threw it back out and the
fish turned, but then it lost interest and disappeared to
work the area, but just couldn't get the fish to
hit again or try to.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
So it.
Speaker 26 (23:22):
And it was a pretty it was a pretty bright day.
That was one day that was Sunday. It was Sunday,
so that was for that day. But yeah, once we
get some stable weather, it should the fish and should
really pick up again like it did a few weeks ago.
Speaker 4 (23:39):
Okay, hey, Corey, questions for you man. A lot of
guys they fully fish like like catch mahi joe. Yeah,
I'll kind of open billy up and see what's been biting.
What's his gut, maybe pilters or whatever. You a steakhead,
belly up and to just peek inside and see what
the hell of things would just munched on. I'm curious
what their diet is.
Speaker 26 (23:55):
All their diet is. Over the years that I have
done that, I don't do it as much anymore. I
don't kill them as much. I don't I barely ever
kill them anymore because it's not really necessary. But over
the years doing it, I mean I found everything. I
found crayfish, lizards or every type of lizard, ducks, rats, mice, turtles,
(24:21):
no license plates now yeah, not like mice, rats, let's
see other snakeheads, baby ducks, every playkos. I found playkoas,
armor catfish, baby turtles, yep, armored catfish, every cicklid, tilapia.
(24:50):
They really that's what they eat. A lot of his
sick lads and tilapia. That's that's a big thing along
with the craye, you know, cross crawdads and stuff. They
eat a lot of those exotic tilapia and sickles, which
is good because we've got way too many of those.
And yeah, I mean there's probably stuff that I'm forgetting
that I've that they've eaten. But they got a wide
(25:10):
range of I mean I've even found, uh, one time,
Australian pine needles, so off the trees.
Speaker 7 (25:19):
Weird. Yeah, yeah, so they.
Speaker 26 (25:22):
They they're they're smart fish, but they do have you know,
their opportunistic eater you know, feeder or eaters, they'll predators.
They'll you know, whatever kind of comes by him or
they have an opportunity, they're going to eat it.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
So yeah, sure, Corey, it's my f w C h
dot com. W says, if you catch a snakehead, dispatch it. Okay,
they're authorizing you to go ahead and dispatch that fish, right,
all right?
Speaker 5 (25:49):
But well there he's changed. I think has changed.
Speaker 26 (25:53):
It's changed. It's changed, and I'll be honest, I'll be
honest with you that a lot of the if you
see on the website for FWC is very outdated information.
It's not it's not updated very much. Because they say,
like the record is they're the biggest one they've ever
seen is nine pounds. Well it's not nine pounds, fifteen pounds,
so they're way outdated.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
On the riff you did it.
Speaker 26 (26:16):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, so they no, but you you can
release them in the same place you catch them. That's
that's that's perfectly legal. There's nothing wrong with that. They
just the only thing they don't want you to do,
and that's what pretty much any exotic fish, they don't
want you to transport them to a new body of
water where they haven't been established. That's the only no no.
But other than that, you can catch them and release
(26:38):
them in the same body of water. That's no problem.
You can't get a rescue, you can't get fined or anything.
Speaker 5 (26:44):
Well that's yeah.
Speaker 9 (26:46):
For instance, I changed that in my tournament since yeah,
I noticed the FWC has changed up their stance on it.
You know, I I and other people, uh like Corey
who have a you know what's saying this, I feel
like this industry. I changed our rules in the tournament
as well. So no kill, no, okay, very cool.
Speaker 26 (27:08):
Yeah, it's a they're here, they're here, and I mean
you catch other you know, it's not like that's the
only fishy cab. I mean, there's other fishy catch with them,
and it's the bassard. You know, you catch bass with
them and you catch The good thing is they eat
a lot of the other exotics. That's the thing which
we need other stuff to control some of those sicklids
in Tilapia because the peacock bass can only do so
(27:29):
much when they're you know, some of these bottle old
bodies of water, they're not super big compared to some
private lakes with the peacocks, so you gotta it's good
to have the snake as is another predator on those
type of fish because there's so many of them.
Speaker 4 (27:42):
Yeah, very cool. Before you go prosta, Joe Hector put
together Corey Nowakowski TikTok video. By the way, Oh yeah
I did.
Speaker 26 (27:52):
I did. I'm sorry I didn't reply, but that was
but that was very good. That was that was very good.
Speaker 7 (27:58):
I like that.
Speaker 4 (27:58):
Some major fills on the computer. Right, yeah, stuff you
guys definitely done before Joe, how do we find your

you're pushing your right to a quarter man. That's sort
of gosh, Wayne, God, our great, Frank good want it
to you, buddy boy.
Speaker 32 (33:25):
Hey, good morning, gentlemen.
Speaker 4 (33:27):
Welcome back to the show. Wayne. I appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (33:30):
Man.
Speaker 32 (33:31):
And these weeks keep rolling by. Wow, time is flying quickly,
isn't the guys?
Speaker 5 (33:35):
Oh yeah, you're back in the pack with the show
man leaving us so.
Speaker 25 (33:38):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
A couple of caps this week they say fishing was
kind of spotty. What's been happening on your world?
Speaker 7 (33:46):
Wow?
Speaker 32 (33:46):
This is uh, we're kind of like coming through. I
think I might have mentioned it before that when the
shrimp are running, it kind of changes the whole landscape
of fishing off Miami.
Speaker 33 (33:55):
Uh.
Speaker 32 (33:56):
And I just got a call yesterday from a buddy
of mine who's that's what he does, shrimp and he
had three big nights last week. He got like five
hundred pounds a night. So what's going on is, yeah, yeah,
that's a lot of shrimp. Anyway, you know, the grass
beds all between thirty sixth Streets seventy ninth Street, the
shrimp pour out, especially off downtown Miami area, and they've
(34:17):
been running pretty good. And what happens is when they
come out, government cut, the bear cut all that, everything
eats them. So fish gets so stuffed with shrimp, you know,
it's kind of hard to catch them on normal bait.
And a lot of folks don't realize, even king mackerel.
I remember as a young captain, this is like nineteen
seventy two. I mean, we're going back into Stone Ages
(34:39):
anchor fishing and fishing with live shrimp for kingfish. It
was a thing back then. And mackerel as well. They
love them.
Speaker 10 (34:46):
They love shrimp.
Speaker 32 (34:47):
So that's what that's part of what's going on. It
slows down some of the fishing is having so much
bait going out there. But one of the good things
at this time of the year, there's a couple of
good things going on. We're getting you know, our time change,
and that makes it uh, you can, you can. You
can fish that late afternoon things almost eight o'clock. Now
you can stay out and it's this is an amazing
(35:07):
time of year to fish the last two hours or so.
If you're an offshore fisherman, you want to fish coast wise,
you want to fish in for sale fish too, especially
blackfintune is hang on. This is the time of the
year for them, so we're really coming into that and
some big kings in the next full moon should.
Speaker 5 (35:21):
Be there pretty good as well.
Speaker 7 (35:22):
So that's what I would you know, for.
Speaker 32 (35:25):
For us, Yeah, we kind of stick to a schedule. However,
we will stay out late. You know, we leave the
dock at one forty five or so in the afternoons.
There's times we don't get back.
Speaker 7 (35:33):
Till seven o'clock.
Speaker 32 (35:34):
So we try to try to hang in there with
the fishermen and we have you know, we we don't
run a bus, so that's the best way.
Speaker 10 (35:41):
To look at it.
Speaker 32 (35:42):
And you know, we're the only game in town in
downtown Miami, So you know, you want to go fishing,
you got to come, you know, come up with us
and bring your kids and hopefully get you out in
the ocean. You every knowing you might catch something, you know,
but that in the.
Speaker 5 (35:54):
Night that the pop by and the other boats well, you.
Speaker 32 (35:59):
Know back a well, man, it's like, what a great
memory you got, man.
Speaker 7 (36:04):
You know, I remember when I.
Speaker 32 (36:06):
First started, when I first started on that dock on
my CAP's license, right around nineteen seventy two, and there
were five or six boats, and even we had a
captain Joseph, a New York boat was down there for
a while.
Speaker 10 (36:17):
I had six boats for a while, and.
Speaker 32 (36:19):
A lot of things, you know, a lot of things
have changed the landscape of fishing. First off, the cost.
I think it was five bucks back then to get
on a boat.
Speaker 10 (36:27):
So but then again five yes, yeah, five bucks.
Speaker 32 (36:30):
So now it's now you know, we're charging seventy five
and we give a resident discount. We charge in residents only.
I say, only fifty bucks. You know, inside me, I
say ouch, you know, because I grew up in party
boat fishing. Being man. You know, you got a ten
dollar billion, you're biby, go fishing, you know, and leave
it made a couple three dollars tips. You're a happy
guy you catch a fish. So part of it's the cost,
(36:51):
you know, for us to try to manage the boat,
the business and everything.
Speaker 5 (36:54):
It's related to.
Speaker 10 (36:55):
The costs are ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
No, it is what it is.
Speaker 32 (36:58):
I don't mean that. This is not a complaint. You know,
I've been I've stayed in the business because I love
it and I love the people. It's not about money
so much as it is about doing what you do
in your life that you enjoy. So I've got the
best crew I've had many many years. These my crew
just love what they do, and uh got have a
passion for what you do. And the other thing is
the fisheries. The fisheries have have declined enough to where
(37:20):
you know, back then you would you would generationally have
folks keep coming fishing with you, and the fishing slowly's declined.
Speaker 10 (37:27):
Well, nowadays people.
Speaker 32 (37:29):
Go out and fish, they catch a fish, are happy,
You take good care of them.
Speaker 7 (37:32):
Their happy.
Speaker 32 (37:32):
You don't have to fill boxes. It's you know, I've
said it before, man, You know what, you know, we
used to have five hundred pound boxes. I just I
can fill boxes now, but I got little boxes. So, uh,
you know, you got to like your expectation has to
adjust a bit.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
Yeah, customers are definitely more used to it. Joe that's
all it takes.
Speaker 6 (37:52):
Man.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
Oh yeah, just one is a meal. Yeah.
Speaker 32 (37:58):
Well it's like I'll said, tell people, you know, they
catch a pound in a quarter yellow tell us say, yeah,
it needs a five pound or it's five pounds of rice,
and you got a meal for the family, met them.
Speaker 4 (38:08):
So that's right, man, you're right. Yeah, that's all you need.
Speaker 5 (38:11):
Like driving me crazy, I see you.
Speaker 4 (38:15):
Guys a a doc Joel and I want to just
go on the face.
Speaker 32 (38:17):
One of my one of my pet peeves, and I'm
gonna throw it to you, guys, is how many times
do you see guys get into these little dolphins and
they're catching them and they take their fingers and they
gam them in their gills, rip the hooks out, throw
them in the water. Yeah, because they think, oh it's
too small, it's too small. Why don't they let the
fish go to give it the best chance to live?
I mean it's it just takes a moment. And truthfully,
(38:39):
every boat should have a D hooker on it. If
ever you saw, I'll tell you look on my Facebook
page under the kids Let's go Fishing. I got ten
year old kids de hooking fish with a D hooker
where they don't touch them. And if a lot of
our offshore anglers use the d hooker and don't touch
that dang fish, you don't have to touch them. You
don't need the long arm larious a twelve inch kingfish
(39:01):
to make it look like it's eight pounds. Please please,
everything's about you know they And what I hate is
that you see a guy with a really nice fish
and they stole walmarm Larry and it's like it's all
about the.
Speaker 4 (39:14):
But we know that's the natural body slime and when
you take that off with your hair, absolutely, oh yeah, fish,
absolutely absolutely.
Speaker 32 (39:25):
You know it's funny you look at a live bay, well,
you know for years, well truthfully the last thirty five
years or so, we've done a lot more live bait
in thirty five forty years. But you learn you look
at the end of the day a well full of herring,
you'll see your fingerprints on it because the bacteria is
growing on it because we didn't know any better back then.
And all of a sudden people start using these little
the hookers. Then they start raising the bait because the
(39:46):
understanding that you can't remove that slime coat, well the
same I don't care if it's a grunt or a
kingfish or a dolphin, you know. And the other thing
is using the ruse.
Speaker 5 (39:56):
The dolphin grows so fast. You give that little baby
a chance, even Yeah.
Speaker 4 (40:00):
Give them a chance.
Speaker 32 (40:01):
Fishes thirty pounds, Yeah, thirty pounds in a year apparently
or something. So anyway, anyway, reward fleet best best economical
shot in town, especially if you're a resident. Really good
discounts now night fisher. We're going to be started doing
at least Thursdays through Saturdays right now, and the night
fish is gonna get crazy good mangrove snappers that has
(40:21):
not slowed down in years off Miami. So a lot
of folks don't know that yellow tale and mangrove snapper
fishing off Miami is very good.
Speaker 4 (40:31):
Thanks so very much. Enjoyed this. We'll have a great weekend.
Speaker 10 (40:34):
You guys coming all fishes sometimes gentlemen.
Speaker 4 (40:38):
One day bringing me on board, he said.
Speaker 5 (40:41):
I am, yes, I am. He loves it.
Speaker 32 (40:43):
Man, Hey, hey, Eric, come about our permit trip.
Speaker 4 (40:48):
I'll do that.
Speaker 5 (40:51):
He loves yellowtail. She loves catching yellow tail.
Speaker 4 (40:54):
You just missed what I heard about it.
Speaker 5 (40:56):
I want to hear it.
Speaker 4 (40:57):
We had a permit trip. Guy, I know, but kick out.
Speaker 5 (41:00):
I wasn't there, so.
Speaker 4 (41:01):
Yeah, I'll tell you about it.
Speaker 32 (41:02):
Okay, Cocking cut the fish.
Speaker 4 (41:06):
It ran five hundred yards back to the wreck.
Speaker 10 (41:08):
It was stupid man. Anyway, goodbye, wonderful.
Speaker 5 (41:12):
Let's go check out Jim JV.
Speaker 4 (41:14):
Matthew. By the way, I watched it last week with
the term of hern you totally blowing man. You have
blown bubbles? Did Jim actually told you on the show? Hey, Joe,
I remember where's my bubbles? Joe?
Speaker 5 (41:26):
I remember?
Speaker 9 (41:26):
Because I didn't know who was next, You did not come,
somebody didn't text, somebody.
Speaker 17 (41:31):
Left the entire h.
Speaker 4 (41:34):
Whatever. Man, always right, You're an idiot man, seriously, Jim Matthey,
hey Jim, what's up, buddy?
Speaker 34 (41:42):
How's how's life treating you? Guys? Good?
Speaker 4 (41:45):
Well, at eight o'clock when I leave Joe here, I
treat me drink. Man, it's amazingly much better.
Speaker 10 (41:50):
I hear you, buddy, I hear you. Listen.
Speaker 34 (41:52):
Let me get the let me get the good news.
Lobsters are still there. A lot of shorts, man, a
lot of shorts. So really measure them under the water
like you're supposed to have a measureing gage and literally
they're just short, right, But we caught a ton of
lobster in shallow thirty feet off of Papado. It was great,
(42:16):
really good, gentle, gentle north current problem we had yesterday.
I was diving with my buddy Marshall at Owns Meisner
Marina in Deerfield Beach and we had that surge. Man,
did you saw that the surfer dudes when you when
you come out to the inlet and the surfer dudes surfing,
(42:39):
It's like, whoa, that's that's different. That's that's different. But
so yeah, I'm going north, but then I'm going five
feet to the east, five ft to the west, five
to the east, so you know. But but the visibility
wasn't bad. Maybe your typical thirty feet water temperature was
(43:04):
a little chili seventy two compared to what it was
last week. So sometimes that west wind pushes the warmer
water out and we get the colder water coming in.
But the lobsters are abundant. They're they're huddling up, clustered together.
We were we were seeing three four five in one
(43:26):
one hole, but might get one or two good ones
and the rest or whatever.
Speaker 7 (43:32):
You know.
Speaker 34 (43:32):
So shorts shorts in your shorts, Eric.
Speaker 4 (43:38):
Shorts of my shorts, Well, there's nothing short in my shorts.
That's for damn short.
Speaker 5 (43:42):
So any snapper did you get?
Speaker 4 (43:44):
Go ahead, Joe, Sorry, continue on, please.
Speaker 5 (43:46):
Man be any big snapper around, Jim.
Speaker 34 (43:49):
There are muttons.
Speaker 7 (43:50):
Actually.
Speaker 34 (43:51):
Last week Mike buddy Julie Higgs, Julie Hicks, fear fishing
world champion, holds.
Speaker 7 (44:00):
Several world records.
Speaker 34 (44:01):
She shot a nice, nice mutton. So the muttons are around.
We're definitely seeing muttons. And of course the hog fish
are huge, iman beautiful.
Speaker 4 (44:16):
It's so you can't do the one. You can't put
a brain hole spear to a group of or melton, okay,
no group.
Speaker 34 (44:23):
Of No, no hog fish. But we're seeing an abundance
of of hog fish, which is great to see. What
means the fisheries may be coming back. So we have
to wait till May first to put a brain hole.
Speaker 4 (44:37):
In them, okaycause they abundant.
Speaker 34 (44:43):
But it was good. We we enjoyed it. Uh comfortable,
flat butt seas. We're going out today my buddy Carl's boat,
and we're gonna have a good time.
Speaker 4 (44:54):
That's your last lest breath, all right, all right.
Speaker 34 (44:59):
I'm good blowing bubbles.
Speaker 4 (45:00):
Say again, man, how fun Bethubbery. Take care anyway, we
have a great starbright bucket, Joe. You got over here
the camera set for the Facebook live stream made in America. Yeah,
wash and wax and decorator. Everybody gets these saying its
just sends me back a note saying the best stuff
they ever put on their boat. Of course, it took
(45:22):
that old clucker they had and made it shiny. Steven
Dick Gray, I know here one time had a whole
lot of butch remember then, Oh yeah, had that factory
line going on. He did clean them all and totally
rate the bucket, I mean gone.
Speaker 5 (45:34):
And what's great about them is you don't even need
to clean just the boats.
Speaker 10 (45:36):
Man.
Speaker 9 (45:36):
They'll take off the sprinkler iron thing from your car
like incredible.
Speaker 4 (45:41):
Stuff is nuts. It's the best stuff in the world.
Ben So number to call it eight six six eight
zero one zero nine four zero right, eight six six
eight zero one zero four nine zero. Here's a very
simple question, Joe, Okay, super duper easy, right now, right, yeah, yeah,

Speaker 4 (56:34):
Well, you have a marine biologist's wife like you do.
I mean, she's obviously pinpoint to the right thermal client
to catch the biggest fish on the planet. So follow
her advice you'll probably catch something.
Speaker 7 (56:44):
I'm thinking, yeah, unless it's the exotic bass round up
because she doesn't give me any secrets because she's got
to defend her title up there.
Speaker 5 (56:51):

but Sean puts in the work to like catch them, and.
Speaker 4 (57:31):
I'm a convenience man.
Speaker 5 (57:33):
Yeah, by man, we're both the same.
Speaker 7 (57:36):
That's the whole point of kayaking.
Speaker 9 (57:39):
But but also though Sean we're similar, we're If we
don't catch anything by like nine thirty, we're done, right.
Speaker 7 (57:46):
That's funny. You said nine o'clock in the cutoff time
for today.
Speaker 4 (57:49):
Yeah, nine o'clock. You look at a bite, you're done.
Speaker 5 (57:51):
That's it.
Speaker 7 (57:52):
Yeah, I don't get a bite, I'm done. If I
do good by then I'm done.
Speaker 4 (57:56):
Right now, Sean da Savors type kicks in tomorrow or
whatever after two aaym. Whatever. So now after work you
fish till like eight o'clock at night. Man, you ever
try the afternoon kayak thing.
Speaker 7 (58:06):
I used to always do the afternoons, but now that

Speaker 7 (58:22):
Know you're Yeah, there's a window of like forty five
minutes to an hour. They just go nuts right before sundown.
Speaker 5 (58:28):
I mean in the summertime, it's different because it's lighter
for longer. So I don't go to bed as summertime.
I go to bed at like nine, because that's when
it gets start really pushed.
Speaker 4 (58:36):
To Joe, you know you're pushing that clock, man, because
you're out leasure like seven thirty.
Speaker 5 (58:41):
You're dade, man, you know what's I went to bed
last night?
Speaker 4 (58:43):
No, no, what seven thirty?
Speaker 7 (58:45):
I figured that's so great. If not, if I'm not
in bed, just sleep by nine o'clock. I'm grumpy the
next day.
Speaker 4 (58:52):
Yeah, all right, any tournament's coming for you. It's a note.

Florida Panthers just grabbed Brad Marshan from the Boston Bruins.

the Panthers. Here, I'm thinking they're making another push for
the Cup coming up.
Speaker 9 (01:05:58):
But you know, Betty, you do got free agency coming
up with football. I think in like a week that's
pretty big.
Speaker 40 (01:06:03):
Yeah, yeah, I mean I'll start paying attention again in
the postseason.
Speaker 5 (01:06:07):
I mean in the preseason and the Jets just the
Jets got rid of Davante.

would offer me a million dollars to name a Panther player,
I would not win that bet. Yeah, me too. I
don't know who they are. They're all like, you know,
these French ass names or Russians.

Go ahead, white guys, what does that mean? Beat each
other up? Man? It needs more diversity. Keep going? Okay, anyway,
keep going? Lets go off that topic, shall we? Betty?

What even catching this week?
Speaker 4 (01:06:52):
Buddy boy?
Speaker 40 (01:06:54):

slow week as far as the quantity of fish, but
the quality has been really good. I mean we've still
been picking out a couple of sailfish here and there. Yeah,
we did grab a couple of wa who's here and there.
The moon's getting bigger and bigger every day. They should
start biting good.
Speaker 7 (01:07:10):

Speaker 40 (01:07:12):
We haven't had them in any patterns, but a couple
of random kings here and there. So you know, I
feel like this is gonna be the month where things
are going to swing around. We'll start seeing a trickle
that springtime fishing coming in and give it another month
from now, we'll probably be having a totally different conversation
on the show here about how the bite's been.
Speaker 4 (01:07:30):
Yeah, I get so.
Speaker 9 (01:07:32):
I guess there's like south current lately that's been killing it.
And I guess like that yuck water has been out there.
From what captains are saying, Benny, are you seeing any
nice blackfin, because that's kind of the thing I've been
hearing is like some big ones man scattered, I mean
not all over the place, but they're starting.
Speaker 4 (01:07:51):
We haven't, we haven't. We haven't seen any big ones yet.
Speaker 40 (01:07:54):
We have been doing a little live bait fishing, so
I feel like if there's been any around, you know,
we might have napped the few.
Speaker 4 (01:08:00):
But they've been so random.
Speaker 40 (01:08:01):
I mean, even if you look at like the tournament
scoreboards over the past couple of days, there's only handfuls
of black fins being weighed in.
Speaker 4 (01:08:07):
They're still very random.
Speaker 40 (01:08:08):
This time of the year, you're not going to see like,
you know, come April May, you know, really, you know,
through May there's times where you kind of know where
the black fans are. You know where they've been moving through.
You can go work them and catch multiples in a
trip right now. You know, if we catch a couple
of small ones on the troll. We've been picking off
a few smaller black fins and skippies, but they have
(01:08:30):
been out a little deeper than usual. You know where
we've been finding them. So a couple of random mahi
this week too. It's not not been a bad week,
but slow right, I'm gonna.
Speaker 4 (01:08:40):
Ask any question. I didn't ask this question Joe. Kind
of important too, Benny, of all the fish you caught
your life, what is your number one favorite fish for
you personally to catch? Good question, thank you, number one
favorite fish?
Speaker 5 (01:08:55):
Two tenths all those feasts you caught. Man, what's your
favorite one.
Speaker 4 (01:08:59):
To turn for you? I mean it's a tough one.
I go through my phases with that, I guess.
Speaker 40 (01:09:04):
But I'd say ultimately, when you're going through that swordfish phase,
which for me, I've been a little slow on sword fishing,
I'd say over the past even six months to a year.
But when you get in that sword craze and you're
going out there and you know, you go from targeting
twenty forty fifty pound fish to if you catch one
hundred pounder it's a small one. That's when you get
(01:09:25):
a little you know, your your excitement level still can
get drawn up a little bit. When you know you've
got a big one on. He's swimming your LEDs straight up,
slacking you off. The real can't even catch up with him.
You know he's flying to the surface. You don't know
where he's gonna pop up. You know, your line starts
scoping one way or the other. It just it gets
exciting there.
Speaker 4 (01:09:44):
You know target I'll tell you, I tell you.
Speaker 5 (01:09:48):
Man, they're like dinosaurs.
Speaker 9 (01:09:50):
Like when you catch one, it's just yeah, you get
almost like this feeling in your gut when you see
a big one coming up.
Speaker 4 (01:09:59):
Oh my, it's the most boring ass one.
Speaker 5 (01:10:01):
I knew you were going to I knew you were
going to say.
Speaker 4 (01:10:04):
Watching I've seen big grown men stand there tip. Yeah,
that park gets boring.
Speaker 40 (01:10:10):
You know, the excitement don't start till you get that
let off. You get that let off. I've seen grown
men freeze up on the side of the boat when
you know even the two fifty just comes right by
him and they just got the harpoon in their gaff
in their hand.
Speaker 4 (01:10:22):
That's funny. After ninth hour of waiting for that rod
to bed over, Now you don't want to kill it.
Speaker 5 (01:10:28):
Have you ever called one?
Speaker 10 (01:10:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:10:29):
I have with my sons. Yes, how big? It was
honestly two hundred pounds lie in the keys on Richard
Stanzac's boat. By the way, my dad.
Speaker 5 (01:10:38):
Okay, yeah, nice that he was on the show for
a while.
Speaker 4 (01:10:42):
He was came on.
Speaker 5 (01:10:43):
Nice guy.
Speaker 4 (01:10:44):
He came on and he left. Okay, but anyway, yeah,
we caught two that day and it was a quite
exciting day.
Speaker 5 (01:10:51):
So okay, cool, So you did have fun.
Speaker 4 (01:10:53):
Yeah, once we Richard knows what he's doing, okay, okay,
and we hooked up with it the first hour. He
was actually the guy who actually did daytime short fishing.
Speaker 5 (01:11:02):
Oh, he developed He was one of the except from
his mouth or is that like known?
Speaker 2 (01:11:06):
It's so nobody ever caught swordfish in the daytime before
he became.
Speaker 4 (01:11:10):
Effectively sport daytime shord fishing. Put it that way.
Speaker 7 (01:11:13):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (01:11:14):
