Speaker 1 (00:02):
You're on board the Nautical Ventures Weekly Fisherman Show with
legendary fisherman Eric Brandon, an extreme angler Joe Hector, powered
by Mercury Marine, Go boldly, list of fish.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Let's make days.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Yeah, buddy, Happy Saturday morning. Welcome to the Nautical Ventures
Weekly Fisherman Show, brought to you by the number one
buck dealership in the entire us of A that would
be Nautical Ventures. About ed Uh, We've got a really
banged show coming up today. First of all, high to
Jeff and nine forty flying that ship bad Stephen J. Gray,
the creative Genius.

Speaker 4 (00:40):
Hello there, dude, Good morning. How you guys reeling this morning?

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Steve? Well, if you're looking at the Facebook stream and
you're wondering why I'm wearing this crazy ass jacket, we're not.
It's because I'm trying to teach the audience about not
buying things on Instagram. Okay, So I saw this men's
clothing ad and I saw this cool jacket. I said,
I'm well, buy this thing looks pretty cool.

Speaker 5 (01:00):
Who said it was cool?

Speaker 6 (01:02):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Not this one. I saw. It was like in blue,
just straight blue, just normal. This second arrived, it was
like totally like not even what I'd ordered like a
freaking part of the Berry Manilow fan club or something.
It's all I worried for like three seconds, saying, don't
be like me, Eric.

Speaker 7 (01:19):
They literally like printed.

Speaker 8 (01:21):
It's like they just printed some painting on there with
like a cheap printer. And then it's got buttons that
what are what are those button things?

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Those are like, uh, they're like pirate beetle buttons from
like goonies from the can button it up? Or is
it too small? That could definitely button up? Okay, button up?
Your fine looks like anyway, Let's thank you. Let's talking
with our special guest, Johnny Stead. I was back from
Johnny jigs dot com. Johnny, welcome back, brother. We got

(01:57):
a big show playing men talking about some cool jicken stuff. Today.
I put a post on Facebook saying he teaches the
techniques about how to be a better deep drop jigger.
Oh yeah, he brought this cool rod. We'll talk about
a little later on this rod. By the way of
the on the stream, there's no eyes on it. It's
really whack dude, like no eyes man.

Speaker 9 (02:14):
Yeah, it's an interesting, very interesting rod.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
What's it called?

Speaker 10 (02:18):
This is a space raud it's an inline concept from
Temple Reef. But yeah, what you'll notice is there's no
guides on this rod.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
So the line feeds up the shaft of the blank.

Speaker 10 (02:29):
Right through the middle of it. So you see that
nothing new. This has been done. Guys have used it
for goglie rods and things like that, but never done
with the slow pitch jigging world. And a lot of
people ask like, well, why would you even do that?
And there's an issue with slow pitch jigging, and that's
tip wrap. You end up wrapping the line around the guides,
so that completely eliminates that problem. There is no possible

(02:53):
way of tip wrapping with this rud.

Speaker 8 (02:55):
So this literally has one guide towards the bottom right here,
and then that's it, and then it feeds up.

Speaker 7 (03:02):
There's nothing else.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
That's it. Man.

Speaker 10 (03:04):
Yeah, so think about sensitivity as well, because now the
lion is contacting the full blank going all the way down.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
That's such a freaking great idea, man. Yeah, pretty cool.
We'll see a thing of action. I brought a couple
of rods today for us to have a little fish
off later on during the shelf. I brought one with
I brought one with a jig and one of my
favorite suspending drink baked lures. So we'll try each one
to see which one's more productive. Now, I kicked your
ass the last two times. That's a lot. You've got

(03:32):
a little brim about that log.

Speaker 9 (03:33):
What do you mean?

Speaker 7 (03:34):
I caught a large mouth talking dude.

Speaker 8 (03:40):
You caught you caught uh Steven's boat and then almost
fell through his dock. And then I caught a large
mouth and a peacock and a snakehead.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Steroids have definitely affected your joke.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
That joke was old last year. I beat it.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Okay. Meantime, we have a captain holding the line one.
He wants us to shut our flappers here and get
him on. Shall we let's do it. I brought him
on last week because you're turned there. He's not gonna
do it. Don't put I don't know how to do that.
I'm he's not doing that.

Speaker 7 (04:15):
I don't put him on the spot.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Bring on, Jimbo? Shall you all right?

Speaker 7 (04:18):
Shall you?

Speaker 3 (04:18):
Yes? I shall you? Wow?

Speaker 7 (04:21):
Hello, Jimbo? How is thou? How are you doing?

Speaker 11 (04:25):
Thou is great?

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Joe?

Speaker 11 (04:26):
And that was a great intro. And actually you brought
me on last week because you were doing copa junk again.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
Wow, you were doing copa Wow.

Speaker 7 (04:38):
I just brought him on twice.

Speaker 11 (04:39):
I was trying to be nice. I know I can't
cuss on the radio here, so.

Speaker 7 (04:43):
I just brought about twice in a row.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Anyways, So past the intro, Jimbo, you and I chatted
because I do scipt A show prep at night, Jim,
but you talked with the captains.

Speaker 11 (04:53):
We chat a little bit reluctantly. Myself answer it and
I see it's Eric.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
Promos Instagram promos called show prep Joe. Anyway, so yeah, Jim,
why do you hateed my call as usual? But anyway,
we talked for the thirty seconds you gave me for
you hang up on me?

Speaker 11 (05:13):
Right?

Speaker 3 (05:14):
What's going on on the fire Man's Baby?

Speaker 11 (05:18):
Well, the wind is what's happening, and it's killing us.

Speaker 12 (05:24):
Uh.

Speaker 11 (05:24):
We did fish earlier in the week in this wind,
which I was a surprise. I made it out at
all Thursday. You know, earlier in the week when it
was flat calm, I didn't have any any charter business,
and then when it's blowing like crazy, I have business.
So Thursday we made it out. I forewarned these people

(05:45):
that it was going to be very rough, and they said,
we don't care, and I said, all right, well, if
you don't care, I don't care either. And we went
out and they actually we stayed out the whole trip.
They fared really good, so they were sea where they
and it was rough. It was probably eight foot seas.
Some of the guys were saying it was ten foot seas.

(06:06):
But whatever it was, it we'll just call it rough.
The only plus one. It's rough like that, especially this
time of the year, and the wind was blown out
of the east pretty much is the fishing's typically fairly good.
So we got out there, we caught some live bait.
We caught the live bait in government cuts, so it
was calmon there and then we beat her way out.

(06:29):
The water didn't look very good, but we put the
kites out with these live baits. We ended up just
on a half day. We ended up with a sail
and five decent dolphins, so it ultimately wasn't too bad
of a trip. And then the last couple of days
I've been canceled, which I'm not upset about that at all,
because it is rough and it's not getting any commer

(06:53):
at least not today.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
Wow, So well, it was kind of mutual.

Speaker 11 (07:01):
Listen, Yeah, it's lost money, but it's a no brainer
when it's you know, if they don't want to go
and it's two to four foot seas, then I might
have a problem with that, But when it's eight foot seas,
I have no problem with that because I don't want
to beat my brains out. I don't want to beat
my customers up. Now, if they want to go, let's go.

(07:22):
But if not, you're not hurting my feelings. I've done
that for the last forty some years. So what little
brains I got left I got to save instead.

Speaker 7 (07:31):
Of beating them out forty years.

Speaker 11 (07:33):
But the mission is probably pretty good. Yeah, thirty forty
forty four years now on the Thomas Flyer.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
Well, Jim Barro, guess this morning is Johnny stetup from
Johnny Jiggs. You and I talked last night about the
fact you actually dropped those suckers off the flyer. Now
and then, so what's your what's your what's your skill
sket Yeah you should do that or learning it or
what are you doing? Like me, I'm still learning the technique,
you know what I mean?

Speaker 11 (07:56):
Well, I wouldn't call myself a professional or expert jigger,
but I know enough to get by, and I don't
have all the adapted tackle just for the jigging. A
five minute jig, it's gonna just go on one of
my spinning rods. So I don't do it often, especially

(08:17):
with charters. But if I go out on my little
boat playing around, yes I'll drop a jig, you know,
on the big boat and you get inexperienced people, you
end up having jig flying through the air, through the
side of the boat, over the tuna tower, around the outriggers.
So we don't jig too much. We put the light

(08:42):
bates out. But yes, I've done plenty of jigging in
the day and done fairly fairly good with them, so
they work. I think everybody is pretty safe today. They're
not going to be losing too many jigs because they're
not getting out there where the big fish lives. So
I don't know. There's a tournament. There is a sailfish

(09:04):
tournament going on. It was yesterday and today, so there
are a bunch of boats out there fishing. I guess
they start fishing at eight o'clock d again this morning,
and there was a fair amount of sales called yesterday.
I think top boat had roughly ten sails, which isn't
too bad by me. And I don't know, and I

(09:25):
meant to make some calls and talk to some of
the guys that did fish, but I'm assuming those dolphins
were still out there, and the dolphin were in close,
right on the edge. The ones we caught were in
one hundred and fifty to two hundred feet of water.
Maybe if we ventured out further we maybe found more.
Who knows, but that wind had everything pushed in close.

(09:47):
A lot of sea weed coming through the last few days. Yeah,
so our gasmwed has got real bad. All the marinas
are clogged up with it right now. So I don't
know if that's why the the few dolphins that are here,
if that's why they're here, or it's just pure coincidence.
This winds got them pushed in.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
Close, and it's.

Speaker 11 (10:09):
Up to about ten pounds, I'd say, so not bad. Yeah,
you know that we had five on and all five
were keepers, so we didn't have to sort through any
of them. Okay, they were obvious keepers. I I haven't
personally heard of any bigger ones, but you know, I'm
sure there have been some caught, and then there's been

(10:30):
some black fin tunas and again this weather gets the
fish biting and moving. So if you can brave the
high seas is relatively decent action out there.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
So I'm sorry question, Sorry, Joe, you want to go?
I would like to, yeah, because I'm tied it at
a Johnny, if you don't.

Speaker 7 (10:47):
Mind, can I just ask one question real quick?

Speaker 3 (10:50):
Mate? Don't you always Joe? Why would you stop now?
Of course?

Speaker 8 (10:53):
So, Jimbo with the black tuna, I've been here, so
I've been hearing a lot about blackmen and how we're
we're still catching a lot, like for this time of year,
there's still like some big ones like twenty pounders. There
was one out of Pompino that I saw the other
day that was like twenty.

Speaker 7 (11:09):
Three pounds, twenty four pounds, right.

Speaker 8 (11:11):
So, like, do you think like early May we could
potentially see all those big jumbos coming in like consist definitely?

Speaker 11 (11:19):
Yeah, So May is prime blackfin tuna month in my opinion. Right,
But so April is a start, so we're leading up
to it, and then we still catch them through June
as it starts to taper back off. But May is
the peak, especially around the full moon, and that's when

(11:41):
we catch the biggest ones. That's when you see possibly
a thirty plus pounder.

Speaker 7 (11:46):
Right, But I think we're gonna have a good year.

Speaker 11 (11:49):
Well, they blackfin tunas. Twenty years ago, we wouldn't see
a blackfan unless it was may or June, April, may
or June saying the three months, and that we consistently
see them. Now we see them year round. Yeah, so
something has changed for the better. Now on the off months,

(12:13):
we were still seeing them, but we just don't see
those big ones. But we see a lot of eight
to ten, eight to twelve pounders whereas we would never
see those before. And that's where those are the ones
that are being caught on the jigs. A lot of
fishermen are fishing out on the Miami Government kunt Hump
also on some deeper recks off Miami Beach and keep

(12:35):
his cane where these tunas are holding on and they're
dropping these jigs and they're catching them like crazy. So
those jigs are deadly on those tunas.

Speaker 7 (12:44):
I agree.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
So what a great question Joe, I had one about
Johnny's have asked, but it just sucked up five freaking
minutes of the show. I can't even get my.

Speaker 7 (12:54):
Question to tell you know what we're talking about this
on Johnny's podcast.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
Yeah, you and your dumb ass last question, okay.

Speaker 7 (13:02):
Jimbo, history question. Let's get into the history of blackfinn show.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
No, we're not gonna talk about things are late. I'd
like to ask the question, Jimo, but I can't because
the clock. So you have to get out of here. Okay.
So if you okay, if you have an off weekend,
we're you're not fishing, you're walking. Come here and co
host show and take Joe's chair.

Speaker 7 (13:19):
I'm fired again. Come on, man, he keeps firing me.

Speaker 11 (13:23):
I would hate to go up there and catch all
those fish off the dock.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
And you got I'll take you out of any day
of the week. I got some magic rods. You're going
on to there, Okay, But anyway, Jim, thank you brother,
Good time talking to you, Jimbo.

Speaker 11 (13:38):
Okay, you got it, guys, Good luck, everybody be safe
out there.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
You guys just tuned in. Johnny step from Johnny Chicks
dot Com is our special guest today on the show. Hey,
you heard that you got with Joe the Crazy Man.

Speaker 10 (13:52):

Speaker 3 (13:56):

Speaker 10 (13:57):

and then as well as anywhere where they post a podcast,
so Spotify and and everywhere where there's a podcast. So
tap Tapping Bottom with Johnny ja he's on YouTube.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
Yeah, I know that joke, Thank you. I was just
I was just making by the way, yes.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
We have I say, the cutest picture as far as
fishing is concerned in the world.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
And guess I'm gonna pop it up right now. Guess
whose kid it is?

Speaker 13 (14:26):
That?

Speaker 9 (14:26):
Would Johnny?

Speaker 3 (14:27):
I know whose kid it is? Eric, It's it's Johnny's son.
His nine year old son got a hold of a
freaking beast a j and wrangled that sucker up by himself.
Yes he did. On that new fang. That's great, gig.
You got rod real thing and that just look at
fish rights.

Speaker 7 (14:47):
We got a frame.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
The kid hold that thing in man, incredible.

Speaker 10 (14:52):
That's Elijah And yeah, man, he lifted that thing up
and took that great picture.

Speaker 9 (14:58):
He fought that fish himself.

Speaker 10 (15:00):
You there is nobody that I love fishing with more
than him.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
That's awesome.

Speaker 9 (15:04):
He he goes hard man.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
Johnny, you also got some fish with your buddy as
well too. On the second picture, can you tell us
about this?

Speaker 9 (15:11):
Oh man?

Speaker 10 (15:12):
So those are queen snappers and yeah, and uh that
was you know, that was like off the continental shelf
way out in the golf and those are deep water
fish there.

Speaker 9 (15:23):
They're just there's something flag there.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
We go something Pops Boy may tell you.

Speaker 10 (15:28):
They're good to eat number one, and then the other
thing that just makes them, you know, in my top
five favorite fish to catch is they battle you all
the way yep, and and very very effective dropping jigs
to them.

Speaker 3 (15:41):
We gotta zip it and pay the bills here because
they're like three minutes of high school thanks to Joe's
last dumb question. But we'll talking about Johnny steam as
we go along with the sho got a fish off
coming up. The set of the star by Bucket's going
to be here. We've got Corey on deck next to snakeheads.

uh an a wall captain.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
I haven't heard any of you mentioned.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
There's a reason why I'll tell you why later.

Speaker 11 (21:12):
Are you serious?

Because I happen to sell the brand the boat that

Speaker 12 (21:53):
It are you guys doing it? So doing well?

Speaker 3 (21:59):
My friend? So h question for you, Corey, you ever
tried a Johnny jig or jig fishing out of You're
a fresh water guy a lot. Do you ever try
jigging for a fish at all?

Speaker 12 (22:09):
I've never used Johnny Jiggs, but I have used jigs
in the past, just peacock gas fishing mostly. Uh, used
the bass fishing a lot, but not a type of
jig is like a swim jig stuff like that. But yes,
I have used and I have used jigs.

Speaker 3 (22:29):
Johnny. You make a special smaller jig right for you
guys who want to like photograph like peacock bass whatever. Yeah,
we have.

Speaker 10 (22:36):
Micro jigs that get down to like twenty twenty grams
and I've had, I've had. I actually got to experience
some of that dropping down and I was catching sicklets,
oscars and like just a ton of of the other
fish with it as well. But yeah, but Johnny Stapil
really kind of chimed in on getting down.

Speaker 3 (22:55):
Yeah, what's in the world of you, Corey? Have been
the slaying snakeheads this week?

Speaker 13 (23:00):
Here?

Speaker 3 (23:00):
What's going on, dude?

Speaker 12 (23:02):
Yeah, the snakeheads definitely been. Uh, that's been the hot
the hot bite. I had a couple of guys a
few days back and they were out for about full day.
They got about thirty snakeheads and up about seven pounds nice,
so it was they had a good day. They had

(23:22):
a couple of real good ones on that unfortunately didn't
stay on. But that's how it goes sometimes. Those fish,
they they are good at getting.

Speaker 11 (23:31):
Off very easily. Yeah.

Speaker 12 (23:34):
But uh, and then I happened to go out one
day myself and I got about twenty eight myself and
the biggest is twelve pounds.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
Was the biggest twelve yeah yeahs like what so there
and it was.

Speaker 12 (23:52):
A top warter byte, so top water byte was definitely on.
So we're getting to that time of year and now
that exciting bite is coming now you know, it's it's
been happening. So that's that's that's always fun, can't.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
We talked last week at Corey about how late back
you are and how cool you are under kind of
pressure and fire. He just said, Joe, he got twenty
eight stakes. Some guys are lucky to get one. Yeah, yeah,
and he's I had that, Yeah, I got I got
twenty eight A big deal.

Speaker 11 (24:17):
What do you do? You know?

Speaker 3 (24:21):
So man, that's just incredibly great.

Speaker 21 (24:22):
Man.

Speaker 3 (24:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (24:24):
Now are you are you going from like spot to
spot or you get them?

Speaker 11 (24:28):
You know?

Speaker 7 (24:28):
Are you picking one spot per trip?

Speaker 21 (24:30):
Like?

Speaker 7 (24:30):
How do you do that?

Speaker 32 (24:32):
So?

Speaker 12 (24:33):
Some well it depends sometimes because some some days of
yad is from spot to spot. You know, I'll go,
I'll go two to three maybe four spots in a day.
Right and then like in this situation this past week,
it was mostly just fished in one place. So and
but they're they're large, they're large canals large. You know,
they're they go a long way, so you know they're

(24:54):
cover between five to eight miles, so you got some
distance to cover, an area to cover. But they're there's days. Yeah,
I go, you know, three four spots a day, and
you know they could be a pond or a lake,
small lakes, you know, small canals. Just it all depends
on where I'm going.

Speaker 10 (25:12):
Wow, it's all artificial or or do you can you
throw live bait at them as well?

Speaker 12 (25:18):
You can throw live bait, I'm I usually throw artificial
just because you're a lot of times with those fish,
you got to cover a lot of water.

Speaker 11 (25:27):
Yeah, so you can't.

Speaker 12 (25:29):
You can, I mean you can sit one spot and
do that with live bait if you wanted to. I mean,
if you're fishing like a down tree or a dock
or you know something with an overhang or you know
just something overhang in the water cover or something like that,
you could do that. But let's fish sometimes they're so
you know that you could catch one and then another
one hundred yards you may not get another hit, or

(25:51):
another mile you may not get another hit, or you
could get it in ten feet, you know, right after
you caught one. It just you got to move around.
That's a big thing.

Speaker 3 (25:59):
Cover water, Hey, Corey, do all be residential canals in
South Florida like you Maybe maybe on like Davy or
Orange Drive and Davy wherever just an example, there's a
nice canal system or the other normal freshwater canals all contained.
Snakeheads are just specific areas well.

Speaker 11 (26:15):
They are.

Speaker 12 (26:16):
They are in there as well. They have gotten in
there in the last I don't know, three to four,
three to five years. They weren't in there years ago
when I used to fish for like peacocks and smoke
and stuff like that. But they have gotten in there.
But they're so they're they have They're in Broward, they're
all the way down like they are in pember Pines.
They are in me or Mar. You can't catch them

(26:37):
down there. They're in Davy now and you know all
through you know the Griffin Canal, so they're pretty much
all through Brower for the most part. I've heard some
in North Miami. They're all through pretty much Palm Beach
and you know now I catch them all the way
up in Wellington Locksahatchie. Wow, So they're you know, they've
gotten up there. I've even heard up in Jupiter, but

(26:59):
I don't know that for certain. I haven't been up there,
and I haven't really heard anything big of any you know,
any size. So and they're in like Eyed of course
and stuff. So they're they've definitely moved. They haven't gotten
in the Everglades yet, but they you know, they're they're
all through Browed and Palm Beach.

Speaker 8 (27:15):
So Corey, how about the peacock bass.

Speaker 7 (27:18):
I hear a lot of people are getting some big
ones right now.

Speaker 11 (27:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (27:22):
I didn't really spend too much time on them, but
it is a good time right now because a lot
of them are on the they're you know, they're doing
their thing, their territorial you know, bed mode, so you
know they're spawning.

Speaker 11 (27:32):
So if you can you get into.

Speaker 12 (27:35):
Them, you know, you'll you'll get in some really nice fish.
And I know the last time I fished for him
was I think, yeah I Vegas was five pounds and
then I got that eight you know, a while back.
But uh but uh yeah, it's a good time just
just for people. If you're going to catch them, you know,
try just to catch one. Or if you're gonna catch
you know one, you know, you catch the big one

(27:56):
and put it back, you know, so they do their things.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
Gotcha? So very cool? Well, Corey, we got to rock
the clock because thankfully for Joe, he put us way
behind scheduling.

Speaker 7 (28:06):
That was Eric's fault.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
No, you got us way behind as usual. No, it's
your phone right off the batman. Are you wearing a
shirt with your name on it? I am you're shilling yourself.
You are a shirt every Saturday it says trade with Joe.
I don't trade at all. You hear this? Cused up
my own Eric brand. Wow, especially design.

Speaker 9 (28:24):
You don't see.

Speaker 8 (28:25):

Speaker 21 (28:55):

Speaker 43 (34:51):
Good morning, Good morning. Is a beautiful day. That's all
I know. I'm happy every day.

Speaker 3 (34:55):
You'll be happy to know that something up in your
alley is the fact that Johnny Stead up, Johnny Jig
our special onset guest today. And I know you do
you do those iron man thing right right? Talk about
what you do with jig and stuff.

Speaker 43 (35:07):
Man, Well, I've been doing jigging trips, my gosh. Before
before jigging was the known, I had a couple of
customers that started with me and I remember them coming
out with braid lines. This is twelve fourteen years ago,
and this is when braid for us anyway was starting
to become, you know, something to look at. I've never

(35:27):
been skeptical. I mean you're skeptical a little bit of
things until you try them. It's like the circle hook thing,
you know. Danny Miss and I my partner and I
back when the billfish tournaments and Bouncer Smith, you know,
we all everybody was skeptical at first when you make
a transition to something new because you don't like to
change things, and you know you have to be open
for things like that. So once we realized that after

(35:50):
a lot of usage, I mean we had days on
the reward Danny and I would catch six, say ten
sailfish in a row and never miss one with a
with a non offset circle, and we go, you know what,
this isn't ok and mirrors here this works. So so
this is the kind of thing with the jigging. You know,
I grew up, we all, Danny and I bouncer, we
all grew up doing the old Mett tournament. We did
what was called deep jiggen we use we used bucktail jigs,

(36:13):
and then all of a sudden somebody invented.

Speaker 21 (36:14):
A glow worm.

Speaker 43 (36:15):
You stuck a worm on the back of it and
hang on, man, you started catching twice as many fish.
So that translated over and for me my transition day
into vertical jigs really being something special.

Speaker 3 (36:27):
You got to realize.

Speaker 43 (36:28):
Up north and in the West Coast, they used what
we're called diamond jigs and throw an iron. This is
the These are the prehistoric starts of vertical jigging. I
had a guy that come on a boat be twenty
five years ago. I had a well full of pinfish.
When I first started a business off I used to
go fishing. I get three four guys shop, I'm going fishing.

(36:50):
I go all day. A couple of local guys would
come out and support us. But I had a gentleman
show up and he had a bunch of these big
He just called him irons.

Speaker 3 (36:59):
He had his big eight foot like a like a.

Speaker 43 (37:01):
Deck rod, a surf froy with a pin jake master,
and he's jigging with these three to six sounds hunks
of steel with a big old giant trouble on them. Yeah,
let me tell you something. At the end of the dude,
at the end of the day he outfished live pinfish
two to one, and I was astounded, dude. I was
astounded because it brought me back to my days of

(37:22):
deep jigging, well, vertical jigging, speed jigging, slow pitching. The
slow pitch thing is like, I get it, but you know, back,
you know, twelve thirteen years ago we were catching gags
and blacks and warsaws on regular vertical jigging. We just
you know, it's like I related to bass fishing, where
you take a worm and you can fish it any
way you want. You can rip it across the top,

(37:45):
you can put it on the bottom. And jigs are
like that, so they cover the whole water column and
it is a fascinating way. There's nothing more productive than
having guys on your boat working, working vertical jigs, slow pitching,
fast pitching, whatever you want to do, but you will
catch more fish. You can put your kites up, keep
these things going up and down. The box gets full,

(38:06):
not by the kite so much. I'm not kidding you.

Speaker 3 (38:08):
Yeah, and you don't have to kill yourself. You don't
have to yourself. Throw win a question. Man, Guys, get together.

Speaker 10 (38:15):
I'm kind of downing it. Oh he's he's the O
G captain really taking guys out. He's one of the
original guys that you can go on his boat. You
show up with braid and he's like, cool, you could
use braid on my But I remember both to be like, Nope,
you can't bring.

Speaker 9 (38:27):
That braid on here.

Speaker 11 (38:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (38:29):
Really they would say, no, bro, I turn around and
I go home.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
No braid? Love it? No? Yeah? Something? I love it?

Speaker 9 (38:39):
Boats do it?

Speaker 3 (38:40):
Why? Yeah? Why?

Speaker 43 (38:42):
They say it screws look the angles And this to
me when I was a bouncer and I were kids
growing up on the party boats, they would love us.
We get on the stern of the boat, we throw
our stuff, we throw our junk up up wind.

Speaker 11 (38:54):
They never see us.

Speaker 43 (38:55):
And Joey say, coming around the corner with a fish again,
you know, because we're push it over there. And once
you get this down to how you can work the lure,
it's devastating to the fish. And uh, I've been I
have been a proponent of it, and you know, I
love it. I at one time there, I'm I'm not
running the boat so much now, but keeping one or

(39:18):
two rods going, it's it's not cheap. Unfortunately, I'll put
a rod in a tourist here and has no idea
what to do with the jig, nothing, and he'll catch
you allt fish the whole boat.

Speaker 3 (39:28):
Yeah, and how it's devastating.

Speaker 43 (39:31):
I'm just telling you, it's awesome, man, and I love it,
and I need to I need to push it a
little more because I know who I am in this
business and we've always pushed it.

Speaker 3 (39:40):
We've always pushed it.

Speaker 10 (39:42):
When you told me something years ago, and I want
to see if I could squeeze this out of you
without without saying it myself minute and it was about
black fin tuna being here year around.

Speaker 43 (39:53):
And you're absolutely no, they're here. And I didn't realize
that until the last few years. I really didn't. And
the biggest thing that got usually is like this time
of the year, you get out late in the afternoon,
but you develop a pattern, and I never for one
as a fisherman. I'm not going to say a captain.
I'm a fisherman. And what you do is you look
at stuff, you see how come this is going on?

(40:15):
Then you start, really, I'm a depth finder nut I
have been. I've studied the bottom off Miami for over
fifty years, and I know it better than anybody. But
it's not just the bottom. It's paying attention to other
things and where you see fish, where you work them.
You know, ten, twelve, fourteen years ago, with a vertical jigen, guys,
I was fishing res out to over five hundred foot
of water, and We're catching black fintunes on them, and

(40:37):
I'm looking.

Speaker 3 (40:37):
At the machine.

Speaker 43 (40:38):
I'm going, wait a second, these aren't now, I'm the
CODs are too high. You know, there's a way a
structure of the way fish look at a depth finder.

Speaker 3 (40:44):
I could.

Speaker 43 (40:45):
I may do this someday. I may do a whole
thing on what you're looking at. Anyway, the bottom line was,
we're catching these two and three pound black fintunes on
vertical jigs and they're starting to buy two hundred and
fifty feet down on.

Speaker 3 (40:57):
Top of structure.

Speaker 43 (40:59):
So we started adjusting are fishing to it. And they
are here year round. There is not a doubt in
my mind. Off off off the kip the seat mount
to hump out off Miami. There we've caught black fings
every month of the year there. They show up every
month of the year.

Speaker 3 (41:13):
So they're here. They are here, Wayne. Thanks, So you
talked to over the hour, buddy, we're got to rock
the clock. But Wayne just said to Joe and I
myself and Johnny. Uh, he's tossing his junk up wind.
I've caught that one right. What that meant? But to
be a topic? Man, Okay, you're junk win jac and guys.

Speaker 43 (41:33):
Okay you chicken guys out there. Man, give me some
more junk to throw off. Win Man, your stickers on
the boat.

Speaker 3 (41:39):
Let's do you?

Speaker 21 (41:39):
I love it?

Speaker 3 (41:40):
Tell you junk up wind. That's gonna be the catch
phrase of the show.

Speaker 44 (41:43):
Here.

Speaker 3 (41:44):
Wait, are we gonna rock? Okay?

Speaker 7 (41:47):
Thank you?

Speaker 3 (41:47):
Take fishing by the way, thank you, reward you got it?

Speaker 9 (41:54):
Bore?

Speaker 3 (41:57):
Are you definitely doing over there? You want that boom?

Speaker 21 (42:06):
You know?

Speaker 3 (42:07):
Steven really does take care of you more than me.
He gives all the sound effects, he likes all the
doesn't like you. He doesn't give me crap a just
hard time. Yeah, that's it.

Speaker 7 (42:16):
We're friends.

Speaker 2 (42:17):
Whatever, hold on the York. Let me make you song better?

Speaker 3 (42:20):
Go ahead, okay, you one bad man? All right, Let's
bring out Jim Chief. He went by Dautical Ventures yesterday.
I guess we walked out with joy. Uh monster box
of Starbright? Oh how about that.

Speaker 7 (42:38):
That's awesome, cool stuff. He's a happy guy.

Speaker 3 (42:41):
Get lobster.

Speaker 44 (42:43):
Litsten Listen, I'm just waiting for Eric to come over
the house or wash and clean my boat.

Speaker 3 (42:49):
There we go. Uh, never happened in your lifetime with
the next one? There, Pinhead, that's calling you. Okay, but anyway,
what are you doing there, Jimmy boy, I'm.

Speaker 11 (43:00):
I'm sitting here talking to you guys.

Speaker 3 (43:01):
But I'll tell you what.

Speaker 21 (43:03):
It's out there.

Speaker 44 (43:04):
It's gonna be a little bumpy this weekend. I'm not
really sure anybody's really gonna be under the water this weekend.
Gonna be challenging to get uh, get on the boat.

Speaker 3 (43:15):
Uh, next weekend looks good.

Speaker 44 (43:17):
And you know the good news is this past Monday
was the thirty first.

Speaker 11 (43:23):
That was the last day of lobster season.

Speaker 3 (43:26):
And that's it, buddy. We were we're crying. We're crying.
Not good.

Speaker 45 (43:36):
Wow.

Speaker 44 (43:37):
We put all our officers stuff away. Yeah, and we
dream about it and we post a lot of pictures
from you know, from the past season.

Speaker 18 (43:48):
And we had a great season.

Speaker 3 (43:49):
We had.

Speaker 32 (43:50):
It was fantastic.

off the beach.

some Johnny jigs. Take your boat out when there's great
mercuries on the back. Okay, and try to step jigging
with Johnny jicks in your new time and sell them.

we bring them, you know, with the rod and the reel.

Speaker 21 (44:41):

That's great?

Speaker 7 (44:54):
I love it.

Speaker 11 (44:55):
Well.

Speaker 3 (44:55):
Then he gets into the boat, jumps in and then
puts the spirits of the brain hole.

This is Jack McMullin with your Miami Marlins minute. The
Marlins unfortunately fall in eleven innings to the New York
Mets in the series finale on Wednesday six to five.
The Marlins are now four and three as they hit
an off day in Atlanta and then start a six
game road trip in Atlanta and New York against these
same New York Mets. The Mets are three and three,

(51:15):
scoring got going because of Pete Alonso in the top
of the first inning, but the Marlins scratched and clawed
their way back into the game. Alonzo, with a big
blow on the top of the eighth tied the game
at four, and two runs for the Mets was all
they needed in extra innings. A solid note for the
Marlins was Connor Gillespie, the right handed starter five innings
a one run ball, Gillespie struck out six and didn't

(51:37):
walk anyone. Connor Gillespie proving to be a bright spot
for this Miami Marlins.

Speaker 3 (51:41):
Rotation that's dealing with some injuries.

Speaker 6 (51:43):

Hey, let's get right back to the Nautical Ventures Weekly
Fisherman Show powered by Mercury Marine.

Speaker 5 (52:15):
Go Boldly.

Speaker 3 (52:18):
Welcome back at the show. Special guest is Johnny Steenham,
Johnny Jiggs making the best jigs on the planet. There's
other competitors out there, Johnny, right, but they're not like yours. Man.
You guys big high quality, got QC and everything, making
sure the paint scheme is done right, and very meticulous
on your product.

Speaker 9 (52:38):
Right, we are.

Speaker 10 (52:39):
Very meticulous yep, yep, high quality materials through and through
on them.

Speaker 7 (52:45):
Uh.

Speaker 10 (52:45):
We want guys to catch fish and that's what it
boils down to.

Speaker 3 (52:49):
Very good.

Speaker 21 (52:50):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (52:51):
Speaking of catching fish, you almost caught something on my
magic Joe. Yeah, the big one got away. I'll show
you how it's done during the next break.

Speaker 7 (53:00):
Again he missed He missed it, man, No, you actually.

Speaker 3 (53:06):
If you were worked at the lower properly have it
by now, Johnny. Anyway, we have our guy whom shot
rolls on the line one captain.

Speaker 11 (53:17):
Yes, what's going on, guys, n Yeah.

Speaker 3 (53:22):
You can't be on the water. It's just wondering. Hell today, man,
you can't be out there kind of on the water.

Speaker 33 (53:26):
I'm up in danel And Florida at the springs and
doing some padderporting and.

Speaker 3 (53:30):
Today, oh crystal clear springs up there there we go. Yeah,
very cool.

Speaker 11 (53:37):
I heard you.

Speaker 33 (53:38):
Talking to I heard you're talking to Johnny a minute ago,
and I'm gonna tell you. I'm going to tell you
the difference from a third party standpoint, Johnny, Chris and
Will and all the guys are there Johnny jigs. The
difference is they're the local fishermen out there fishing our waters,
designing the products to work to the fish that we catch,

(54:00):
not just some guy in some store. That's the difference.

Speaker 3 (54:04):
Can we hire him for your ad campaign? He just
said a whole great slogan right there. That's good tech
fishermen making tackle that catches fish locally. I mean, I
don't want to he just paraphrase a little bit, but yeah, yeah,
he's right, bet Sean, good job man.

Speaker 33 (54:18):
That's that's a difference, you know.

Speaker 3 (54:20):
It's a difference. Yeah. So I guess you've used Johnny
Jick successfully and your fishing ven is probably off the
yacht more like likely the boat.

Speaker 33 (54:28):
Yeah, yeah, for sure. I mean you always got to
have some of your tackle box. But right now, from
this point in the year forward is jigans season in
my opinion. I mean, this is is where you're get
in a big black Men tunas and you know, group
is going to be open up in another month, and
it's the time is now. Man, It's gonna be great.

Speaker 3 (54:46):
Oh yeah, yeah, buddy, Well that's exciting news because I mean,
Johnny's got a whole stash of you always gonna have
a brand new lures, right, Johnny, you're trying to got
brand new things, Brandy, tried.

Speaker 10 (54:57):
And true, always always yet always got something in the pipeline.
I'm always working on new designs and and testing new stuff,
whether it's.

Speaker 7 (55:05):
In the lab.

Speaker 9 (55:06):
Yeah, it's not just not just the lab from you.

Speaker 3 (55:09):
Know, from just you know they have a lab, Joe.

Speaker 8 (55:12):
Yeah, he's literally got like a science lab at his
facility and they sit there and he's got scientists.

Speaker 3 (55:18):
But he actually watched them down.

Speaker 8 (55:20):
He's got like Beekerts and bunchs and Beakerts and you
know lab, a bunch of beakers, you know, rats, and and.

Speaker 3 (55:27):
A bunch of burners you mean burners, burners, Bozo.

Speaker 2 (55:32):
Somebody's been burning something.

Speaker 3 (55:34):
A bunch of bench of I can't even say a
bunch of burners. You can't even say you screwed me up. Anyway,
back to our guest, you're shot Rolls. So watch what
catch list this week? Buddy the good Uh nothing good man,
Like I said them up here.

Speaker 33 (55:49):
I've been trying to do some freshwater fishing. No luck yet,
but uh seem plenty of fish swimming with him. So
that's about it. But I did get to do the
snakehead tournament uh the weekend before. I actually didn't fish it.
I weighed That was awesome, and I actually didn't fish it.
I weighed in. I was the weight master for it,
and we weighed all the fishing over there at RB Tackle.

Speaker 46 (56:11):
Man.

Speaker 11 (56:11):
It was.

Speaker 33 (56:12):
It was really cool. There was a guy, the guy
from Drave was there and he was helping this little
kid out. This kid must have been eight nine years
old and he won second place in the protos. A
little like three foot kid win a tournament. And that's
what it's all about, right there.

Speaker 3 (56:30):
You know that?

Speaker 11 (56:30):
Kids?

Speaker 3 (56:32):
That's awesome, man, Well shot highlight. Let's you go do
your thing, man, just wait.

Speaker 8 (56:37):
Real quick, Sean Sean, what was the biggest snakehead in
the tournament?

Speaker 3 (56:43):
Uh?

Speaker 33 (56:43):
Thirteen pounds? I think it was twelve pounds, twelve towns
eleven point ninety five. And I had a one had
a gizzard chat in it, another one had a bird
in its stomach.

Speaker 11 (56:54):
A bird, Yeah, a bird.

Speaker 3 (56:58):
They are savage joke. They will eat any thing Johnny
learning from Johnny stabilding other guys, Cory Dorokowski. These snake
heads will eat any freaking thing considered in their way. Wow,
it could be a duck, could be a bird, it
could be whatever.

Speaker 9 (57:11):
Yeah, squirrel, squirrel.

Speaker 3 (57:14):
I wonder Joe swamp on the bank would actually grab him,
but he's so cool.

Speaker 11 (57:17):
Man.

Speaker 3 (57:17):
Probably gobble you want yeah, they all want your tender meat.
Yeah yeah, anyway, that got weird weekend brother Manboddy, Okay,
you're the.

Speaker 7 (57:30):
Man, bye, Sean.

Speaker 3 (57:31):
So I can't burying gifts today my friends as I
always do. Okay, would you get me because for Johnny,
Steven and me by that looks good. I've got these
really great guaba or guaba and cheese pastry bites. So yes,
it is a great. And for Joe, I thought about
you because you are my true friend. I know you
very very well. Thank you. So I got you. I

(57:52):
got you, buddy boy. I got you a pickle in
my pouch. Geez, I got you a pickle in my pouch, Joe,
just for you, Joe, there's what do you do with that?
There's my pickle in my pouch just for you. What
to hold my pickle? You, Eric, what do you do
with that? That's Joe, it's just now to play with them.

Speaker 7 (58:12):
That is gross.

Speaker 3 (58:13):
He's got a pickle in his Pouchy is this thing
so big? That's what she said? And the pickle too, Yeah,
thank you. Oh look it's made in the US. A
very good So I got like a bit of here
before with the brake. Time. So Johnny with Johnny Jigs
is here. He brought this special rod and I want
to talk about the thing more more time before you
do the break here. That rod has got no eyes
on it, per se, but that one lead eye right there.

(58:34):
And I want to ask you what fish would you
target with that kind of a setup.

Speaker 10 (58:38):
So you can, I mean, you could target any bottom
species with this.

Speaker 9 (58:43):
You could target tuna's.

Speaker 10 (58:44):
We have gone as far as catching you know, triple
digit tuna's in California with these Yeah, these right here,
So they're they're rated for Graham size of jigs, right,
So you're going to match the rod to the gram
size of the jig that you're using. But you can
you can tug on anything with that. So just some
of my epic catches, like I actually caught a Kitty

(59:07):
Mitchell on one of these space rods.

Speaker 9 (59:11):
No, guys, yeah it is. It is.

Speaker 3 (59:14):
Yep.

Speaker 10 (59:15):
I got the cover of a magazine Florida Sports Fishing
Magazine with that Kitty Mitchell on.

Speaker 9 (59:19):
One of these rods.

Speaker 10 (59:20):
But but it's it's just so user friendly and and
you know a lot of people are like, well, why are.

Speaker 9 (59:25):
You going to use a guiyeless thing.

Speaker 10 (59:27):
That's a that's a nothing new and it's you know,
that's a goggle eye rod.

Speaker 9 (59:32):
Well, no, it is.

Speaker 10 (59:33):
It is new because nobody has made the blank for
slow pitch jigging specifically, right, So this blank is made
different than your goggle eye rod. This blank has made
different than the Diawa guidless rod from yours ago. It's
a completely different rod to spaith rod.

Speaker 3 (59:48):
So no more tip tangles at all, man, because the
line feeds right to the rod, which is such a
genius idea of me.

Speaker 10 (59:53):
Man, that's the biggest problem is tip rap and guys,
guys tip You know what happens, Eric, You tip wrap
and then you get a big fish on and then
what happens to your guides?

Speaker 9 (01:00:05):
Yeah, they go with the fish.

Speaker 3 (01:00:06):
They yeah, the fish. Yeah, what size reel goes out there?
Just avert sise.

Speaker 10 (01:00:12):
So you could match this with like a like all
the way down to like the three hundred size accurate
or the twenty dioa Saltese or Saltiga, and then you
can go up as high as even like a six
hundred double in accurate.

Speaker 9 (01:00:26):
Oh wow, balliant you know.

Speaker 3 (01:00:27):
By the way, speaking of our rocher, I got a
stream a question from Tad's handtaie jigging goes Eric asked, Johnny,
does that rod come in an ultra light? I need
a couple to try out. No ultra light, He's just asking.

Speaker 10 (01:00:42):
But you know what I would recommend for light jgging
is get into like the light jinggging spinners. And actually
Temple Reef makes a light spinner, not the vortext, but
it's a man Go to Johnny jigs dot com and
look up lights, lights, spinning jigging rod and you're gonna
you're gonna find some great ones. But as far as
this one here, it's more for heavier jigs and heavier

(01:01:05):
jig app.

Speaker 3 (01:01:06):
Got you take a little break and talk more. Man. Next,
I have a couple questions about a certain reel that
you mentioned is kind of a genius that actually self jigs. Yeah,
that that blows my tree. Man joyful something for you.
It sounds like a lazy waist man's to do the
jigging thing. Man right, just self checks for it and
then it goes to electric mode. You just reel up
the fish or whatever. I don't know. I guess I'm

(01:01:28):
gonna get my finger and more shape you some finger
pushed upside. No, no, dude, it'll take a break. Come
back with more seven oh one, Fox Sports nine forty.

and I'm looking forward to seeing that part. So I
just tear him a new a hole. I see him
next time, Okay, okay, okay, Yeah, So anyway, Johnny will
talk more about your rigs and gigs that come up
this hour? Mean telling me I talk to Benny. I'm
Benny's fishing charters, are man? Benny? Benny less less about

(01:06:23):
the Jets now than ever before. We don't talk about
him no more. They're a totally lost team about his
loss as the Dolphins.

Speaker 9 (01:06:30):
It's Rogers gone?

Speaker 32 (01:06:31):
Is he?

Speaker 3 (01:06:31):
Like?

Speaker 9 (01:06:31):
What's going on?

Speaker 3 (01:06:32):
Don't you ask? Benny?

Speaker 9 (01:06:34):
Benny filled me in on.

Speaker 49 (01:06:35):
Yeah, we decided last week the Rogers talk would be over.
He don't even know if he's gonna play next week.
Eric Brandon has some fixation with him, so he has
to bring him up for me every week.

Speaker 3 (01:06:45):
I don't know what lesser man, I don't have a
fixation with Aaron Rodgers like, I actually don't like the
guy at all. He's a total prima don a pain
in the ass state of truth. Hey, you guys want
to him in Miami. I don't want him here in
Miami period. Man is zero matter fact. Take him with
Aaron Rodgers. I'd put like Tuoa and Aaron together on
another team. I'd be very happy. Betty. It's pulling like

(01:07:07):
a bear. Man. You guys out there, are you staying
on land? That I dud? We canceled a bunch of trips.

Speaker 49 (01:07:12):
We got one going out right now for a little
in short trip. We pulled off a couple in short
trips in the past couple of days as well, which
were actually pretty productive for us. We we always get
a bunch of jacks inside, but we got some tarp
in and some other little species just to keep people
busy that maybe you're down here on vacation. They didn't
want to miss their day of fishing. When we told

(01:07:33):
them they couldn't go offshore, they asked if there's any
other options, and we we do what we got to
do to put people on some fish no matter what
it is.

Speaker 3 (01:07:41):
You know, there you go. Man. So Johnny stud is
our guest on Johnny Jakes as you know, you guys
know each other. Yeah, I believe.

Speaker 49 (01:07:47):
Yeah, yeah, I was actually working on a new boat
this week. A guy that owns a Korean barbecue restaurant.

Speaker 7 (01:07:54):
Hallyu oh, yes, yes, yes, yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:07:56):
Ray. You know Ray Ray. Dude.

Speaker 10 (01:08:00):
This guy Ray is he's a fishing fanatic, but he's
got just own a Korean barbecue.

Speaker 9 (01:08:06):
He owns the Korean Barbecue.

Speaker 3 (01:08:09):
Yeah, that's my spot.

Speaker 5 (01:08:11):
Yeah, that place is awesome.

Speaker 3 (01:08:12):
It's right by my house.

Speaker 49 (01:08:13):
If you guys ever go there, I'll walk right across
the street and meet y'll.

Speaker 3 (01:08:16):
All right, cool, Hey, quick question for you, Betty. Have
you guys targeted with Johnny Jigs for a trip or
usuals before your boats? Yeah? Yeah, multiple times.

Speaker 49 (01:08:26):
I mean I've had multiple trips where we did trips
that were specifically just with Johnny's jigs.

Speaker 3 (01:08:33):
You know.

Speaker 49 (01:08:33):
I did some trips with my buddy Joe Meyer, Jack
that takes care of some social media stuff for a
lot of different people in the biz, and he put
me down with one of his guys that has a
rod company and we did a strictly jigging trip. I know, Ray,
who I just fished with the other day is big
on jigging, and I mean this is the time of
the year coming up where everyone's about to be breaking
out all their jigging gear for these black fin tunas

(01:08:54):
that are about to be shown up along the coast.

Speaker 3 (01:08:56):
Oh yeah, I mean, you know, mastered jigging yourself? Well, Betty,
I mean, is one of the things you do very well?
Or are you still kind of learning the technique?

Speaker 49 (01:09:04):
I mean, it's not I can't say I mastered it.
It's nothing that I ever really got into too much.
You know, I have more old school techniques and stuff.
But again, this is something that when I started fishing
Joe Hector's tournaments out there on the kayaks, I'd say
nine out of ten of these guys all had jigging
rods and jigs. And there was even a couple of
guys that would go out there and win these tournaments

(01:09:25):
strictly on jigging.

Speaker 6 (01:09:27):
Ye.

Speaker 49 (01:09:27):
So you know, I started seeing how productive it was.
We started using some you know, Joe's anglers from his
tournaments to come on my boat for boat tournaments sometimes,
and I would designate these guys to just sit there
and jig the whole time. So you know, we got
to see how productive jigging has been over the years.

Speaker 3 (01:09:43):
Obviously we see people now it.

Speaker 49 (01:09:45):
Became huge with bottom fishing over the past few years.
When I used to look at it as like a
pelagic thing, like tune is chasing jigs, but now they
got you know, you're catching tile fish on the bottom,
big groupers, snappers, so it's you know, it's become a
big thing. Obviously we see how productive it is, and
it's obviously not going anywhere now.

Speaker 5 (01:10:04):
Shot.

Speaker 3 (01:10:04):
He's all lit up about that, man. Yeah, you like
that news.

Speaker 10 (01:10:08):
Yeah, yeah, I mean it's when you can when you
got a captain that will that nose jigging and we'll
take you out on a jigging specific charter. It's pretty exciting, man,
because not every captain knows how to do that.

Speaker 9 (01:10:21):
So that's kind of a special.

Speaker 3 (01:10:22):
Thing that's doing it, and Betty's doing it.

Speaker 10 (01:10:25):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you got a great You got a
great lineup of captains here.

Speaker 3 (01:10:28):
We got a great show. The best. Betty sounds like
a wonder to me, dude. So I want to say
about one reel we're going to talk about on the show.
He's got a self jigging reel that actually you put
in this mode here and it actually does self jigging
by sticking the rod in the guddle. You shit back,
you know, puff on a cigar and you're watching your
freaking real do all the work for you. Yes, that

(01:10:50):
like the lazy Man's fishing or what dude.

Speaker 9 (01:10:53):
Auto, It's a system, I mean.

Speaker 3 (01:10:58):
And then if you hook a big fish, you push
the button and the electric pulls the fish up for you.
I mean, you can do for you. You know.

Speaker 8 (01:11:06):
I feel like a lot of what makes jigging fun though,
Like I used to love when I would high speed
jig and then I would reel up super fast, and
then all of a sudden it would stop, and it's
almost like for that second, the fish is like shocked
and you're shocked, and you both just stop and then
it's and then it's like and then yeah, and then
it's like a freight training just runs.

Speaker 7 (01:11:27):
But there's that second where it just stops.

Speaker 3 (01:11:30):
And then that's where you Joe would put the reel
and electric with your little pinky finger there and watch
a couple months. Okay, you would just like to do
the work for you.

Speaker 7 (01:11:38):
That'd be your thing. Man over, You'd be like, so
you and that jacket.

Speaker 3 (01:11:50):
I just had to put it on for one more type. Hey,
I Betty, have a great week and brother, brother should
settle it out soon in one of these days where
it's not so damn blustery after a lot of capitals
are complaining it's been windy for days and they can't
get charters out there and it's just killed their business.
So good luck with that, brother, Yeah, you have.

Speaker 49 (01:12:06):
Good luck to all the captains and the biz and
thank you guys and Johnny Jigs, thank you all.

Speaker 3 (01:12:10):
We'll talk to you guys soon. Thanks, Benny, you got it.
Take a little break. Did you lose my lure at
the dock because I I don't see the rod with you?

Speaker 50 (01:12:17):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:12:18):
We try two fish offs, so you've failed twice. No, No,
you caught a stickfish in a last cast.

Speaker 9 (01:12:23):
Okay, No, it's fine.

Speaker 3 (01:12:25):
Where's my rod in my my reel and my lure?
Where's that?

Speaker 9 (01:12:29):
I hope you bought your snorkeling gear with where's my rod?

Speaker 3 (01:12:32):
Real lure? Joe, I'm sorry? Where is my rod, my reel,
my lure?

Speaker 8 (01:12:37):
Okay, listen, you know, things happen sometimes and we need
to learn to forget.

Speaker 3 (01:12:43):
And go to talk around the corner and break. Okay,
there's you know. I'm gonna bring my army skills out
on you around the corner after during the break, here

Speaker 51 (01:18:08):
Hey guys, good morning. Well, let me just tell you something.
The Yes, Hey guys, let me just tell you something.
I'm the best guy you ever saw him?

Speaker 3 (01:18:26):
I miss what do you say? Let him go?

Speaker 7 (01:18:30):
Keever mind, don't stop.

Speaker 3 (01:18:35):
Say it again. It's done man. Anyway, we chatted Norm
last week. He's gonna do his thing. We chatted last night. Norm.
Fishing at Broward has been pretty banging dog one, good buddy,
what I heard?

Speaker 51 (01:18:54):
Uh yeah, it was a pretty good week.

Speaker 3 (01:18:57):
Uh.

Speaker 51 (01:18:58):
You know, the selfish really picked up once the once
the wind did, and there were some guys that were
going out there, you know, as long as you had
a really good you know, live bait operation. Yet a
lot of baits in the well. There was some guys
that were coming back with multiple flags in the riggers.
So it was you know, there were some really good
days here in Brower this week. Still some black mentunas

(01:19:21):
in the morning and afternoons, a few bigger kingfish. Some
ma's are showing up too, So that's uh that I know,
they're really good down on the keys, but we'll let
DEV talk about that. But uh, there's there's a few
showing up up here as well. And the tarpetfish and
inshore is really good. But having said that, one more

(01:19:46):
than one notable catch really wasn't It wasn't embroward or
something Jupiter, but I wanted.

Speaker 3 (01:19:52):
To talk about it.

Speaker 51 (01:19:53):
It was a guy that was deep dropping for swordfish
in one day caught a swordfish and a blue marlin.

Speaker 3 (01:20:00):
Well he went, yeah, deep drop of Joe and Johnny
got a blue marlin and a sword And I had
a question for normal last night, like what do you
mean blue marlar or down fifteen hundred feet? He goes, Oh, yeah,
that's common. I said, what, h you heard of that too?

Speaker 20 (01:20:15):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:20:16):
Eating squid? Yeah like what yeah? Yeah, so you never
know what's at the bottom. Man, You just don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:20:24):
Hey, Norman, Norm, any action like in parking between the
bridges there, catch trying to catch fish.

Speaker 21 (01:20:32):
In between the bridges.

Speaker 2 (01:20:34):
Yeah, between the bridge any action going on over there?

Speaker 3 (01:20:36):
I know, Steved, I know where're going with the same
whole thing. Don't don't go there. Okay, he saw other
thing online, Norm, when you saw the guy uh who
jumped into the kid's boat was trying to kick his
ass and they had a big argument. That is online
everywhere he's got posted on anything. Yeah. Yeah, that guy,
that guy got arrested.

Speaker 32 (01:20:53):
He's the he's the best.

Speaker 3 (01:20:55):
That was.

Speaker 51 (01:20:56):
You're trying to bait me back into my original gig
in the time.

Speaker 8 (01:20:59):
Man, Yeah, come on, Norm, So wait, he got arrested
though I didn't know he got arrested.

Speaker 3 (01:21:05):
Yeah. Almost. It was assaulting the guy, almost, man, Yeah,
isn't it.

Speaker 10 (01:21:09):
Isn't it like a felony jumping out, Like you can't
just jump in someone's car?

Speaker 9 (01:21:13):
Why why why can't you jump on someone's boat?

Speaker 8 (01:21:15):
Theoretically they can like you can get shot right like
if you if you that's like a gyant.

Speaker 3 (01:21:21):
I told norm if you jumped on my boat, I
use that stand your ground rule. Like you just came in,
I think you, and I'm gonna put my h K
forty five right you'll face.

Speaker 2 (01:21:31):
What kind of bullets is to carry?

Speaker 35 (01:21:33):
There?

Speaker 3 (01:21:33):
He carries big hollow points. Oh yeah, that put a
hollow point right there your head. Oh anyway, back on
point with fishing, my brother, so, uh, you mentioned the
sword and the blue marlin. Other things are popping as well.

Speaker 51 (01:21:46):
Right, Yeah, Well, I mean, like I said, uh, you
know the uh a few guys that were able to
get out sword fishing before the wind picked up did
pretty well.

Speaker 3 (01:22:00):
And it's kind of you.

Speaker 51 (01:22:02):
Know, we're starting to get more and more into that
springtime pattern. You know, everybody's starting to show up at
the dinner table. So yeah, there's lots of opportunities. You know,
it's it's we're still getting the we're still getting the
wind and everything else like that. But you know, uh,
if you're willing to go out there and brave the elements,
you'll have some really good sail fishing. And then in

(01:22:23):
between the fronts it seems like the black mentuns in
the afternoons.

Speaker 3 (01:22:28):
The is the game. So yeah, So Norman Johnny Stella
for Johnny Jigs is our guest on the show today.
I'm just curious to get back in your past. You've
been a jiggen guy at all.

Speaker 51 (01:22:41):
I've done a little bit of it, mostly in the Bahamas,
a little bit here. Actually, my first, my first charter
that I ever did with Finest Kind was was a
jigging trip, like an all jigging trip.

Speaker 3 (01:22:58):
A lot of fun.

Speaker 51 (01:22:59):
I mean, we we just all I did was drive
them around town and put them on on all the
different wrecks.

Speaker 3 (01:23:06):
Cool. Yeah, I'll assuming you got fish to norm right
they caught fish?

Speaker 11 (01:23:11):
Oh yeah yeah yeah.

Speaker 51 (01:23:12):
Actually on that very first trip, we came within three
ounces of setting the uh setting a new state record
for horse eye jacks.

Speaker 3 (01:23:23):
Oh wow.

Speaker 10 (01:23:24):
Hey hey, speaking of state records, a guy just caught
a state record blue line tile on.

Speaker 9 (01:23:35):
It's still being qualified. Yeah, yep, that was like last
three days ago.

Speaker 3 (01:23:41):
So amazing. Man. Well, yeah, you know, let me tell
you something.

Speaker 51 (01:23:47):
I think it's only a matter of time before guys
start regularly going out and catching swordfish on those jigs
with those with the way that those those new electric
reels have those settings for jigging.

Speaker 3 (01:24:00):
Yeah, I mean, did you start doing that? I'm talking
about Johnny, but that already about that great reel it
self jicks for you and actually goes to electric mode
and really official for you. Yeah, what does it not
do for it? But reficial?

Speaker 4 (01:24:12):
I got a question electric real you have to push
it on the reil, sad an app on your phone
that controls it as well.

Speaker 10 (01:24:19):
Uh, no app on the phone yet, but so you
got to just push a button on the reel. But
but essentially, you know, you could just turn the handle
and it automatically engages into all that coal mode. But wow, Yeah,
there's a whole system we put together with that with
the bent butt in a rod that we call auto.

Speaker 9 (01:24:37):
Johnny jigs auto.

Speaker 10 (01:24:38):
So the bent butt sits in there, the Daiawa seaboard
either three hundred or four hundred goes onto the auto
bent butt and then you know that's what my son Eli.
You know, he cannot jig a five hundred gram j
but I can put him on auto and he can.

Speaker 9 (01:24:53):
Work that thing by himself.

Speaker 7 (01:24:55):
Right, That's true. This could create a whole new thing
like norm said.

Speaker 3 (01:24:58):
Yeah, man, yeah, for real, when dorm speaks, we listen. Okay, Nor,
thank you so much. Brother, gott to rock the clock.
We have a great weekend, bro, And you run that
dog whoa well then dog his line Joe, Wow, it's great.
Steal it man. What you pill for stuff all the time?

(01:25:20):
For your own purposes? Okay, of course you do. Yeah,
let's go talking a great friend right now. Johnny the
man's to Bill.

Speaker 7 (01:25:27):
Oh boy, here's Johnny.

Speaker 3 (01:25:31):
Johnny my man. Good to you, buddy.

Speaker 50 (01:25:34):
Well, apparently I'm only the second best charter captain you'll
ever meet.

Speaker 11 (01:25:41):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (01:25:42):
Wow, who dethroned yourself? Johnny? Watch do that? Man?

Speaker 4 (01:25:47):
What Eric doesn't get this? Eric is not getting it.

Speaker 3 (01:25:52):
Oh, we're going back to that story with that knucklehead
of games.

Speaker 9 (01:25:55):
Well the guy.

Speaker 4 (01:25:55):
The guy called himself the best charter captain in the industry.
That's what's happening here.

Speaker 3 (01:26:00):
All yourself a new jail house number now?

Speaker 8 (01:26:05):
Is not your amigo, friend, Johnny, what'd you think of
that whole thing?

Speaker 20 (01:26:09):
Ude?

Speaker 10 (01:26:09):
Honestly, I'm on a social media fast right now, so
it took me a while to hear about it. So
I just read about it and and honestly, Like, I
think that that guy is getting what he deserves. Like
you need if you're if you're a captain and I'm
a captain, you know you need to you.

Speaker 7 (01:26:26):
Need to respect. There's some respect that you need.

Speaker 9 (01:26:28):
To act like a captain.

Speaker 7 (01:26:30):
You know, how about you, Johnny other Johnny.

Speaker 9 (01:26:32):
Sorry that you're talking about.

Speaker 3 (01:26:33):
No, it was both, but they both yea.

Speaker 50 (01:26:36):
You know, if you're going to be a captain and
you're going to go through the rigamarole to be a captain,
you need to be the calmest, most responsible person on
the boat.

Speaker 32 (01:26:51):
That's what the loan on the boat.

Speaker 3 (01:26:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:26:55):
Yeah, I saw the interview with the camera guy and
he was like fully embarrass like he was like I
felt bad for him because he's getting ripped apart two
for not like doing anything.

Speaker 7 (01:27:06):
But I get what he's saying. I mean, the camera
guy's like listen, like he's the captain, you know.

Speaker 3 (01:27:13):
You know, Johnny, I would hate see Joe as a
captain when some people were out of that same circumstance.
He'd be having roid rage. Would it would just go insane.
They'd probably jump on.

Speaker 4 (01:27:22):
Can I ask you? Can I ask you captains on
that situation? Would any of you pulled something out if
that happened to you.

Speaker 10 (01:27:31):
Uh yeah, you jump on, you jump on my boat.

Speaker 3 (01:27:37):
Guess what, man, that's most captains carried agree.

Speaker 7 (01:27:43):
I wouldn't really need to pull anything out. I would
just show them the real guns.

Speaker 3 (01:27:49):
To Joe Royd rage he.

Speaker 8 (01:27:52):
Jump on and then I'd ripped my jacket off and
he jumped right off.

Speaker 3 (01:27:56):
Let's get back up with Johnny. He's only got like
one word in the entire talk here. Okay, let him
talk for a walk, Johnny outside of that stuff. Man,
how's your week been, buddy? And then going on?

Speaker 32 (01:28:05):
It's been good man. You know, there's been a it's
a fish is picking up, it's getting warmer out.

Speaker 50 (01:28:10):
It's you know, we're we're we're getting through into the
into the spring season, and uh well we're in spring,
I mean, but you know, we're getting further into the
spring season where it gets really good. We're still catching
tons of fish in the Everglades. Lake Eyed is fishing

(01:28:31):
a little bit better.

Speaker 32 (01:28:34):
But that's pretty much it same the same thing as
last week.

Speaker 3 (01:28:38):
You know.

Speaker 31 (01:28:40):
All that's a shadow, No epic peacock or monster record
breaking turtle, an.

Speaker 3 (01:28:51):
Turtle, turtle Joe. Really, what Johnny about catching turtles? Really?

Speaker 8 (01:28:56):
Come on, Johnny, give us a crazy story. Johnny's always
got the best story, trying to get.

Speaker 3 (01:29:01):
Something for a great story.

Speaker 32 (01:29:02):
All right, we always managed to catch a turtle.

Speaker 50 (01:29:06):
When it's like heat of the day, we're waiting for
that clown knife by we're soaking bates. Some gets picked up,
attacked and weird. I'm watching the tip of the rod.
I'm like, could this be a catfish? Could it be
a clown knife fish? And it comes up being a
big soft shell turtle.

Speaker 9 (01:29:23):
That's awesome.

Speaker 7 (01:29:24):
I love those things.

Speaker 3 (01:29:26):
Do you ever catch us off out? Why is that awesome?
I'm curious what would you think a turtle is awesome?

Speaker 9 (01:29:30):
I'm a turtle.

Speaker 3 (01:29:31):
Do you hook the turtle is to hook his mouth?

Speaker 7 (01:29:33):
No, he's fine, I don't feel it. How would you know?

Speaker 3 (01:29:36):
Are you a turtle?

Speaker 7 (01:29:37):
I think like a turtle.

Speaker 3 (01:29:39):
You got a brain like a turtle. And you know,
you know I adopt a turtle.

Speaker 7 (01:29:44):
You know I adopted Johnny's turtle.

Speaker 3 (01:29:46):
Yeah, I heard about that story. Yeah, anyway, Johnny, So
back on point with you, buddy boy. So I know
Tarford ran for a while last week. There was a
big strip Runner, mullet run, one of the running whatever else. Uh.
They were begging super hard, any chance to actually tur it?
Does it all?

Speaker 50 (01:30:01):
You know, I haven't had a chance to get down
there since the Spring Mullet run started going off. And
you know, everybody knows about the Fall Mullet run.

Speaker 32 (01:30:11):
That's like the big one. Everybody hypes it up, It's
all over the internet. And then you have the Spring
one and.

Speaker 50 (01:30:20):
You don't even really see anybody say anything about it.
But I was in Miami about uh, I guess ten
or twelve days ago now, and we saw plenty of
those big silver spring mullet and the tarp and we're
just going hammer time on them.

Speaker 51 (01:30:41):
Man.

Speaker 50 (01:30:41):
Unfortunately I had some incompetent clients that couldn't put it
together and.

Speaker 7 (01:30:47):
Went over eight.

Speaker 3 (01:30:49):
Wow, he just competent. Joe like wow, if you go over,
it's shoting them out, man, Like, hey, they were all competent. Job.

Speaker 2 (01:30:57):
Let's hope they're right now.

Speaker 50 (01:31:00):
I hope they are, because they burned me out of
seven hundred and fifty dollars that night.

Speaker 3 (01:31:05):
What oh, just call him up, call him up, my name,
let's give me the first and last names. I don't
know if you want to do social media, man, blow

Speaker 50 (01:31:26):
They dipped, dude, they they played the I don't have
any cash, I don't have any credit cards. My phone
is frozen on the zell And then three in the morning,
I was waiting thirty forty minutes for them to pay me,
and I said, I guess I'm not gonna waste any
more of my time.

Speaker 32 (01:31:46):
I'm just gonna get.

Speaker 6 (01:31:47):
Out of here.

Speaker 3 (01:31:48):
How do you handle getting stiffed, Johnny, Because you're not
gonna just take it lightly? Bro, do what do you
do about that? You go later and keep it problem
hound or.

Speaker 11 (01:31:55):
What you know?

Speaker 50 (01:31:58):
I only, you know, tried to hit him up a
couple of times. I've been so busy and tried not.

Speaker 32 (01:32:05):
To not let it affect me too much.

Speaker 50 (01:32:07):
But uh, I can tell you I was pretty bummed
out for like twenty four hours about.

Speaker 3 (01:32:12):
That's work hard? You pretty mildly?

Speaker 32 (01:32:15):
Yeah, you know, you tried to make an honest living
and then you get burned.

Speaker 3 (01:32:19):
That just sucks. Well, Johnny on half of your note, Man,
hope Bill fishing gets better for you. The winds you're
blowing like a barely not a great day to go
fishing for anybody day. The truth all right, but uh,
hope he fix up for you. Keep rocking if you're
doing it. You're great on the show. We love you

sports fans. It's gonna be a windy weekend, mostly Sunday,
with a higher eighty seven breezy southeast wind fourteenth to
seventeen miles per hour, gusts highest twenty five miles per hour.
Small craft advisory in effect tonight partly cloudey, low around
seventy six east to win ten miles per hour gust's

(01:38:32):
highest twenty Still that small craft advisory going Sunday Funday,
mostly Sunday with a higher eighty eight southeast wind ten
to fifty miles per hour, with gust's highest twenty three
miles per hour. Now Sunday night, the winds are going
to smooth out to about six to nine miles per hour.
But guess what on Monday, back to high winds they
are blowing currently seventy nine degrees the Nautical Ventures Weekly

(01:38:52):
Fisherman Show.

Speaker 3 (01:38:53):
All right, guess Steve, I'll run up a flash for
that one. Nice job, buddy, let's go down to the
pee showing and see what Captain dev Dale is doing there. Joy,
capt Dev, good morning to you. What's happening?

Speaker 5 (01:39:12):
Ye?

Speaker 3 (01:39:12):
How boy, We've got a special guest. Johnny's done up,
Johnny chigs on set today. Uh, just talking about Johnny.

Speaker 9 (01:39:21):
Hey, Captain Dev how are you?

Speaker 3 (01:39:24):
Everybody very well? Do you have a jigging person yourself
and your fishing exploits whatever?

Speaker 52 (01:39:30):
It's hard to do with customers sometimes on the boat,
but yes, always have that jigging rock, especially after May
when we start going offshore a whole lot more and
REC and REX. I use them on Rex too, especially
with amberjack. But amberjack, your favorite fish, eric has closed
this month in the Atlantic.

Speaker 3 (01:39:48):
Good.

Speaker 52 (01:39:49):
You cannot keep any amber jack from good. They're in
spawning to make more amberjack.

Speaker 3 (01:39:55):
Yeah, good, let them spawn on it one maybe e
spawning six months a year or whatever. But anyways, so
you've heard rumor of it. I've heard a couple of
caps talk about the fact they're saying mahi are more
in the Keys now than they are anywhere else. You
got that.

Speaker 52 (01:40:10):
You know, we're looking at a weather pattern. Speaking of weather,
we're at a windy right now. It's disgusting right now
in the keys, like thirty two to thirty four miles
an hour, so it's it's nine feet right now on
the outside of the reefs.

Speaker 11 (01:40:26):
Yeah, okay, so it's it's.

Speaker 52 (01:40:28):
Gonna calm down, I think Sunday night, Monday. But I
don't really, I mean unless you're like in a humongous boat,
I don't see you going out there. If you are,
you're gonna, you know, really rip yourself apart. But yeah, actually,
their weather pattern is looking like twenty twenty. If you
go back and look at those those logs you're supposed
to be keeping weather logs, fishing logs, and that's when

(01:40:52):
we had a whole lot of mahi show up early
early in the season. And I think it's got to
do with our weather. It's got to do with our wind,
our current, everything that's got going on. So mah he
or here. They're small right now, they're twenty two to
twenty six inches. There's a there're big ones of course
coming in and out, but black and and tuna have

(01:41:13):
been just amazing right now. So you know, if you
can get out there, the tuna on the recks and
dolphin usually around three point fifty to four hundred feets
when they're starting.

Speaker 8 (01:41:24):
Hey, Captain deb have you noticed that the black and
in tuna have been around all year around lately instead
of just like showing up in April May June.

Speaker 52 (01:41:35):
I think that we have residential tuna that live here
all year around on certain wrecks. But we do have
a migration of the bigger black fin that come that
that come when when the blue fen come. So, I
mean that's what blue fen. Bluefin tuna eat bluefish and
they eat and they eat other tuna especially, and also

(01:41:56):
yellowfin tuna will eat black fins too, so they all
migrate out to the Golf of Mexico. So we get
those big thirty pound monkers this time of year, But
then you get into June July, and then we'll get
back down in the little footballs again.

Speaker 3 (01:42:10):
Right, Hey, devil chat here, captain or Beckoff just chimed it.
He goes, I'm in spawning season two, but Noah closed
me down to.

Speaker 52 (01:42:24):
Spawn all the time, and I don't think he might
strike a.

Speaker 3 (01:42:28):
Spawning mode twenty seven. I do believe. Yeah, I think
whether it gets a spot is all other questions.

Speaker 52 (01:42:37):
At Spotted, You know, everything, everything likes each other this
time of year, as you guys all know, I mean,
everything's spawning. Everything. The per man are spawning down on
the dry rocks down. You know, most of your wrecks
have permit on them. Hey, Johnny Jig, have you ever
caught a perman on a jig like a Johnny jig?

Speaker 47 (01:42:56):
No?

Speaker 9 (01:42:57):
Not a perman?

Speaker 3 (01:43:00):
Got asked a good question there, man, Wow, if you fish,
you haven't done yet, Johnny.

Speaker 7 (01:43:07):
That dang you.

Speaker 34 (01:43:10):
Right now.

Speaker 52 (01:43:10):
That's when they go and spawn the permit. So we've
been catching a lot of those on a lot of
live crabs. Yeah, but everything right now is happy. Everything
is is spawning, and you know, I feel like it's
gonna be a great season.

Speaker 32 (01:43:24):
I'm excited about it, that's for sure.

Speaker 3 (01:43:25):
I got looked about spotting. I have a better word
for spotting it rise with truck.

Speaker 8 (01:43:30):
But wow, boy, so that way, I got a question,
capt and Deck or Joe, how would you target going
after permit?

Speaker 7 (01:43:38):
What's your setup?

Speaker 3 (01:43:38):
Crab? Yeah?

Speaker 7 (01:43:39):
But the setup like how thick?

Speaker 3 (01:43:41):
Leader?

Speaker 6 (01:43:42):
Like?

Speaker 3 (01:43:42):
What do you.

Speaker 1 (01:43:44):
I?

Speaker 52 (01:43:44):
I would use what we would use for mutton snapper? God,
you know, you know leaders wise everything like that. You know,
I'll key it down to twenty five thirty pounds, you know,
on the recks, you've got to bring those fish in
the problem is is all of our recks are so
short right now. If you don't bring that fish in
that you've got to turn the handle. If you don't

(01:44:06):
do that, you're gonna lose half your fish.

Speaker 32 (01:44:08):
To a full shark.

Speaker 52 (01:44:10):
Wow, we're really really sharky right now. So we've got
to really And that's and that's why I say up
the leader thirty pound fluororo or even forty pound fluoro,
you know, and and if you don't have a live
crab and maybe even a jig, I don't know, but

(01:44:30):
you've got to have that kind of strength to get
them away from the sharks fast enough, because if you
like tackle, you're gonna lose them.

Speaker 8 (01:44:36):
Johnny, what would you use, sorry, if you were going
to target a permit? Like right now, you're like, Wow,
she's right, I'm going to get one on a jig.

Speaker 10 (01:44:43):
Yeah, she's I mean she's saying that that they're they
eat crab historically, So I'm I'm probably dropping down a
light jig, you know, something under one hundred grams. I'm
probably gonna scale down my floral carbon into like thirty
and thirty pound tests. I probably I probably go thirty thirty,
maybe thirty forty. But but yeah, and uh, what kind

(01:45:04):
of jig? Uh probably probably one of our smaller like
our flat back. It's got like a gold red striped
on it. But you never know, you never know color,
you know color secondary to Actually, Oh, no.

Speaker 3 (01:45:15):
Joe's ruled. Everything's pink. Okay, it's pain. Yeah, keef de
thanks so very much. Have a five weekend. I'm little
stop blowing and get back out there and do what
you do and catch those fish. Baby.

Speaker 21 (01:45:27):
Thanks Captain Dap, Thanks guys.

Speaker 3 (01:45:30):

Speaker 53 (01:51:24):
It gives you just the right extra push when you're
fighting the current.

Speaker 9 (01:51:27):
Let's get into how it works.

Speaker 52 (01:51:28):
Yeah, so underneath your board is a flush.

Speaker 29 (01:51:31):
Built in brushless motor. And the way you control this
actually on your paddle.

Speaker 53 (01:51:36):
I love how on the remote you have three different speeds.
It's so conveniently placed by the handle on your paddle.

Speaker 29 (01:51:41):
And get this, you can even take it off to.

Speaker 32 (01:51:43):
Wear the remote on your wrist.

Speaker 5 (01:51:45):
Yeah, it's awesome.

Speaker 26 (01:51:47):
This kind of board is totally meant for me.

Speaker 29 (01:51:49):
Aka the paddle.

Speaker 53 (01:51:50):
We're gonna need that little extra push to go a
little further, Like you know, when you're paddling against the
sun and you feel like you're going nowhere, Oh my gosh. Yes,
or when you're white for paddling for too long. That's
the time what I'd be turning on. The paddle assists
for sure, and also for beginners. It's such a great board.
It's eleven six in length and thirty two point five

(01:52:12):
inches wide and with the ace tech technology.

Speaker 2 (01:52:15):
It makes it so much lighter, only weighing forty two pounds.

Speaker 18 (01:52:19):
It's super stable and all around just a great board.

Speaker 29 (01:52:21):
Oh what are you and I going to go ride together?
With the way capacity of two forty?

jigging mode and then the electric mode as well, which
is kind of cool. What else is new on the
Johnny Jigs World that we've talked about today?

Speaker 9 (01:53:22):
Well, I mean coming up for us just I mean,
let's talk fishing.

Speaker 10 (01:53:27):
I mean we could talk tackling gear as well, but
but we've got my team where we're taking a trip
to California for a big blue fins pretty soon. And yeah,
so we have we have a lure called a Tuna teaser,
and then we also have a rod called the railer.

Speaker 10 (01:54:16):

guys to use electric. My buddy Aaron Lewis, he's like
a big famous frock star and he went to California
and did it on the electric and he was buddy, man,
come on, come.

Speaker 3 (01:54:31):

We do it Manuel on those boats. But but it's
a it's a pretty fun trip.

And you keep that fishes.

Speaker 9 (01:54:52):

Speaker 10 (01:54:53):
And then and then basically you get to the dock
and they've got these these places that process it for you,
ship it to.

Speaker 9 (01:55:00):
You or you fly with it and you're bringing home
fresh time.

Speaker 3 (01:55:04):

as well.
